Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka II (Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? II) Introduction and Story

Bell Cranel and Hestia face even more challenges this season, as they take their struggles from out of the dungeon and into the politics of Orario. First they learn that Apollo wants to take Bell away from Hestia and into his own familia, as he challenges the Hestia familia to a war game against him. With the help of their new familia members, Bell and Hestia triumph against Apollo, only to get pushed into a new conflict with the Ishtar familia soon after! Bell and Mikoto work to get Haruhime free from the Ishtar familia, but they face plenty of opposition. And Ishtar has plans of her own for Bell as well… This season covered three different arcs, with the Apollo war game, Ishtar familia, and a short look at the outside of Orario, with Ares stealing Hestia briefly. While some of the arcs went rather quickly, the new developments from this season were just as enjoyable as the first! Danmachi prides itself on its interesting characters and story. The new characters introduced fit right along with these standards, especially the main villains, Apollo and Ishtar. And though the last couple of episodes were over quickly, we’re looking forward to the next season already!

Why You Should Watch Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka II (Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? II)

1. It Builds on the World of Orario

Orario has a rich history of lore, one that we have only seen a small glimpse of through Bell and his friends. This season shows us even more of the workings of this city, with two of the strongest familias, the Apollo and Ishtar familias. We saw a whole new side of the city. This season even gives us an idea of what life is like outside Orario when Bell, Ais Wallenstein and Hestia are staying in a small village.

2. The Villains Are a Definite Improvement

During the first season, Bell mostly faced off against monsters. This time, he is opposing other gods and goddesses, and they are much fiercer foes than anything Bell has faced previously! Apollo and his captain Hyakinthos Clio were threatening foes, ones that Bell truly needed his friends’ help to defeat. And Ishtar was definitely a deadly foe as well, with all of her warriors in the pleasure district ready to destroy Bell in an instant!

3. It has New Characters and Development for the Old Ones

As always, Danmachi impresses us with its characters! Despite the numerous amounts of characters in this series, the show always manages to make time to develop many of them, as it did once again this season. We got to see Liliruca step out of her shell even more as she switched to the Hestia familia, and learned more about Mikoto’s past through Haruhime. The new characters were also given a lot of development over the course of the season, though the initial introductions did take quite some time.

Why You Should Skip Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka II (Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? II)

1. The Story Rushes Through Some Parts

This season went through three different arcs in a small amount of time. This made some of the sections feel a bit rushed. For example, the Apollo war game arc was given a few episodes leading up to the actual battle but then ended up being resolved rather quickly. In contrast, the Ishtar familia arc had a lot more time devoted to it, while the final couple of episodes rushed through yet another brief arc. Of course, the show had a lot to go through, but it is a bit disappointing that it wasn’t able to devote more to each of the arcs.

2. Bell Doesn’t See Too Much Real Growth

Bell had a lot of tangible growth in the first season. He trained in the dungeon and leveled up quite a bit! However, this season he only grew a little in physical strength to prepare for the war game. Bell did have some character growth this season, but it almost seemed as though he has already become the hero he has always dreamed of being.

Final Thoughts

Danmachi 2 is a great addition to the series! Though it didn’t have a lot of time to fully devote to all of the arcs and Bell did not see as much growth as the previous season, we still loved all of the characters introduced and those given more development over the course of the season. What did you think of Danmachi Season 2? What do you think of the series as a whole? Who are your favorite characters? Let us know in the comments below!

Nagashima Chousuke has only written one manga series so far. By that, we mean Nagashima found an excellent concept and has written well over a dozen chapters using it. The popular book series is called “The Otaku in 10,000 B.C.” As the name suggests, it’s a strange twist on the isekai genre where the main character is transported back in time to spread his seed. Ota-kun brings his modern-day sex knowledge to prehistoric times. In his very first encounter with a cavewoman, he begins sucking her breasts and puts her in missionary position. Until he arrived, though, there was no boob play, and the world only had sex doggy style. The women tremble from the sexual techniques Oda brings to the past, and together they pave the way for modern-day pleasure. If you like lactation, then this hentai is perfect for you. The breast of the cave women are wonderfully drawn, and all of them squirt milk at the touch of Oda’s fingers. In a later chapter, he even introduces threesomes into the world during the prehistoric villages mating festival.

Before long, she is riding him in every position imaginable to suck out every bit of his cum. The art in Naughty Princess is just fantastic from the very first scene; you're going to love the poses the girls are put in. Naughty Princess opens with three beautiful women sharing one man's dick between their mouths after the princess refused to let him finish inside her. It then moves on to show scenes of the princess having her nipples sucked and fingers being inserted into her vagina. Before long, she’s being rammed from behind while making out with another girl.

Annoyed, he shoves her over on the bed and thrusts his cock into her pussy. Before long, Reiko takes back control and gets on top, forcing him to cum inside her.

Maru Marui started working with hentai in 2008. Maru’s first published work was in “ Girls forM: Vol.01.” Almost all of the works Maru has made revolve around gals. The girls work together to tie him up and then begin to give Saitou a double handjob. They even share his cock in between their tits while they lick it. Afterward, they take turns riding him until he cums. Let's Kiss With The Lower ♥ Mouth starts with the premise that a disease made skirts disappear from the world. Now all women walk around with their panties showing. In the first few pages, the protagonist goes to work on the curvy girls, even satisfying three at once. The rest of the chapters are loaded with tons of fetishes like gym shorts and tights.

Chikanya-san is about a girl named Chikanya-san who rides the train with a horny male passenger. They find themselves pushed up against the window, and her brother takes this opportunity to start groping her ass. Chikanya encourages him to start fingering her and playing with her breasts. Two women are brought in that have been trained as sex slaves — their captive commands one to start sucking on his dick and then spread her pussy. The book goes on to show how each woman was trained and taught the pleasures of a man's cock. There is even advanced nipple play with lactation towards the end of the chapter. What It Means to Be Alive

  • Episodes : 13

Granbelm Introduction and Story

Magic existed long ago in the world, but fearing what the power would do to people, the mages of the past sealed all of the magic away in the Magiaconatus. Since its sealing, an event called “Granbelm” regularly occurs, where young mages fight in another world for the power to become the “Princeps Mage” and control all of the magic in Magiaconatus. Mangetsu Kohinata is a girl who feels she has nothing special in her life, until one night she is accidentally thrust into Granbelm! This anime is one that starts out quite slow, but as it continues on into more detail, it becomes a beautiful and powerful story about the meaning of life and self-sacrifice. Mangetsu is quite a mysterious character at the beginning, appearing out of nowhere to fight among seasoned mages, but the truth about her link to Shingetsu Ernesta Fukumi is discovered near the end of Granbelm. Shingetsu has to make a choice—if she really wants to rid the world of all magic and disappear, or if she will win Granbelm and save Mangetsu from her fate. In terms of magical girl anime, this is one of the best we have seen in a long time, thanks to the character development, story plot and combination of mecha with magic! Granbelm deals with some meaningful matters in its characters, with everyone from Mangetsu to Anna Fugo, and by the end of this series, we found ourselves emotionally invested in their outcome.

Why You Should Watch Granbelm
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="https://www.crunchyroll.com/granbelm" ]

1. The Character Development Improves Over Time

Both Mangetsu and Shingetsu are a bit generic at the beginning of Granbelm, despite Mangetsu’s mysterious nature. However, as we learn more about each young mage in the competition, we start to see how much these battles have changed them. Anna becomes crazed and bitter, wanting only to defeat Shingetsu; Kuon Tsuchimikado’s desperation and doubt in trying to save her sister turns into strength and confidence; Nene Rin learns to be happy with the people she has in her life. Of course, Mangetsu’s revelation and learned appreciation for every detail in her life is the biggest transformation, brought on by the discovery of who she really is.

2. It Deals with Bigger Questions about Life

There are sillier moments that come with being a high school student. Despite this, the girls in Granbelm are dealing with a lot of intense emotions, both in and out of combat. They don’t fully understand at first why they are fighting or what the real implications are for the combatants who lose. However, as the battles reach their climax, each girl is forced to deal with the meaning of their own lives and what they are fighting for.

3. It is a Unique Combination of Mecha and Magical Girl

The mecha and magical girl crossover has been done only rarely. At some points, it can almost be too much to have both elements included, but Granbelm does a great job of making sure the focus of the series is on the stories and characters, rather than the suits they fight in. The style of animation does well with both the mecha suits and magic involved, so it is a perfect fit! Because of this, Granbelm is truly unique among both mecha and magical girl genres.

[ad_middle class="mt40"]
Why You Should Skip Granbelm

1. The Story Takes a While to Pick Up

The story of Granbelm is complex and only has 13 episodes to tell it in. Even with this, the beginning of the anime starts out slowly, with more focus on introducing the characters and the setting. This is necessary for viewers to be invested in the show later on, but because it seemed like many people dropped every other magical girl anime early on. It’s unfortunate because Granbelm gets so much better with time, but the early episodes are usually the most important for first impressions.

2. The Ending is Unclear

The final moments of Granbelm are left with a bit of uncertainty. Shingetsu has faded away from the world and all the other combatants from Granbelm are forgotten. Yet we see in the very end hints that Mangetsu might still be alive. We’re not sure what the future holds for Shingetsu (and possibly Mangetsu?), and while we liked the open-endedness of these final moments, a more definite ending would have been nice to have, as we’re not sure there will ever be a second season.

Final Thoughts

Granbelm was one of the most surprising anime from this season, with plenty of character development and an emotional story. Though the beginning was a bit generic and the ending was open-ended, we enjoyed all the deeper questions about life this anime made us think about. What did you think of Granbelm? 5 Things JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Fans Want to See in a Stone Ocean Anime

Now that JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind has finished its magnificent 39-episode run, JoJo fans are looking forward to an adaptation of the franchise’s sixth part, Stone Ocean. It follows Jolyne Kujo, the rebellious daughter of Jotaro who lands herself in jail after a misunderstanding. Jotaro comes to rescue her but is attacked by a mysterious force that steals his Stand and memories, leaving him comatose. With the help of her new friends and recently acquired Stand Stone Free, Jolyne must find a way to save her estranged father and escape Green Dolphin Street Prison! The manga began publication in 2000, so the community has had plenty of time to speculate about what the anime will be like. But now that it’s next on the list of JoJo parts to be adapted, the discussion has begun anew. David Productions may not have announced it yet, but we’re certain it’ll happen in the next year or two. Until then, let’s see which things JoJo fans want to see in a Stone Ocean anime!

1. Keep Miyuki Sawashiro as Jolyne’s Voice Actress

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="4086179180" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]

Even though she hasn’t shown up in the anime yet, Jolyne and other manga-only characters have had a huge presence in video games like All-Star Battle and Eyes of Heaven. It’s rare for a game voice actor to follow their character into the anime, but it has happened for the likes of Daisuke Ono as Jotaro and Wataru Takagi as Okuyasu. Miyuki Sawashiro’s dry wit and casual toughness as Jolyne have endeared her to the fans, and she plays well off of Jotaro in their cutscenes together. We’d love to see her reprise the role, although she may have to change her last name to Ono to keep up the pattern that the last three JoJo voice actors have laid down!

2. Give Dio’s Sons More Substance

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="https://www.crunchyroll.com/jojos-bizarre-adventure/episode-7-six-bullets-appears-part-1-779044" ]

Dio’s first son Giorno got a part all to himself, an amazing design, and a personality that wove together both Jonathan’s sense of justice and Dio’s ruthlessness. By comparison, his younger half-brothers in Stone Ocean definitely get the short end of the stick. Ungalo, Rikiel, and Donatello Versus are wayward souls who grew up unloved by their families and bewildered by their powerful Stands, without the positive influence of a mysterious Mafioso savior like Giorno had. That’s an interesting concept, but unfortunately, it isn’t explored very deeply and the brothers only end up serving as minor villains on the way to main antagonist Pucci. If DavidPro expands these characters’ roles and backstories like they did with La Squadra in part 5, Dio’s sons may finally get their chance to shine.

3. Make Bohemian Rhapsody Even Crazier Than the Torture Dance

Ungalo’s Stand Bohemian Rhapsody is one of the strangest in the whole series—it brings drawings of fictional characters to life as sentient paper dolls. Anyone who sees a character that they like has their soul sucked into that character’s original story and is forced to live out the events of the narrative. The Stand has an infinite range, so it causes worldwide panic when Ungalo activates it. We’ve seen that DavidPro can pull off surreal humor with part 5’s torture dance, so we can’t wait to find out how they portray Bohemian Rhapsody. Will they include more famous characters from fiction? Will the art style change out of nowhere? How will the paper dolls move and sound? We need to know!

4. Include Jotaro’s Theme Within Jolyne’s Theme

Main-protagonist musical themes like Joseph’s “Overdrive” and Giorno’s “Il Vento D’Oro” have become irreplaceable aspects of the JoJo mythos. And Jotaro’s theme, “Stardust Crusaders”, has cemented itself as the iconic soundtrack for villains getting a much-deserved beatdown via a flurry of punches. So we’d love to hear that funky bass riff and saxophone as part of Jolyne’s theme when she unleashes the pain on her own adversaries. It could just be a simple easter egg, like in Josuke’s theme or a full-blown remix, but this is just too perfect an opportunity to waste!

5. Bring Back the 3D Openings

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="IMDB" url="https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2359704/mediaviewer/rm2291869696" ]

The opening songs for parts 1-3 were animated in stunningly stylized 3D CGI by Kamikaze Douga, a studio known for their work on Fire Emblem: Awakening’s cutscenes and the glorious fever dream that is Pop Team Epic. Unlike most CG in anime, these openings were bursting with personality and played to the strengths of computerized effects to portray JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure as the larger-than-life roller coaster that it truly is. Part 6 is the end of the timeline that started with Jonathan Joestar, and so Jolyne is his last descendant. Wouldn’t it be amazing if Kamikaze Douga came back one last time? They could even start with a reverse version of Phantom Blood’s opening—instead of manga panels going backward through the lineage from Jolyne to Jonathan, it could go forward in time and end by introducing Jolyne!

Final Thoughts

We have no idea when the Stone Ocean anime will be announced, but we’re sure it’ll happen eventually. Until then, at least we can dream! What did you think of our list? What do you want to see in an anime version of Stone Ocean? Let us know in the comments, and thanks so much for reading!

Even though Halloween is primarily a British and American holiday, Japanese people have taken a liking to the fall festivities and spooky spectacles that they’ve been exposed to through foreign media. Of course, that means that the wonderful world of anime features its fair share of Halloween episodes! But hilariously, most of the ones that are set in Japan focus on how nobody seems to know exactly how Halloween is supposed to work. Today, we’re here to see how Japan interprets All Hallow’s Eve through ten of our favorite Halloween episodes in anime. Grab a bucket of treats and come with us!

10. The Rogue Robot Chase from Dirty Pair OVA – Episode 2

[sourceLink asin="B005S0STWS" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 10 " aired=" December 1987 – April 1988 " post_id=""]

Yuri and Kei are excited to party the night away on Halloween, but their hopes are dashed when the 3WA sends them on a mission to dispatch a rogue robot that’s terrorizing the town. The Terminator-style robot blends into the crowd of costumed partygoers, making it especially difficult for the Lovely Angels to track it down as it sprints through several other crime scenes that the girls blithely ignore in pursuit of their prize. They finally manage to put a stop to its rampage by using the town’s Halloween fireworks as flashy weapons to blast it into tiny pieces. The crowd is delighted by the display, the robot is left as little more than a head, and Yuri and Kei share a drink to celebrate a job well done. Cheers to Halloween night!

9. The Halloween Festival from Keroro Gunsou (Sgt. Frog) – Episode 133

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B0007VLV8C" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 358 " aired=" April 2004 – April 2011 " post_id=""]

Dirty Pair’s version of Halloween seemed more like the 4th of July or New Year’s, but Keroro Gunsou opts for a traditional Japanese matsuri approach to the holiday. Everyone attends the town’s Halloween festival and gets into the spirit of things (the Keroro Platoon wears human disguises to cosplay as monsters, Mutsumi draws little spooky characters that come to life and fly around, the yandere Momoka dons an oddly appropriate half-angel half-devil costume, etc.), but their peaceful night is interrupted when a mysterious girl named Alisa starts attacking the aliens with a shapeshifting cat ear headband. How can the team possibly defeat this strange new threat?

8. America and Japan Scare England from Hetalia: The Beautiful World – Episode 12

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="MFBC-61" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 20 " aired=" January 2013 – June 2013 " post_id=""]

America and England have been pranking each other on Halloween since time immemorial, but England has always won. Remembering how terrifying Japanese horror movies can be, America busts into Japan’s house while the country is trying to take a relaxing bath and shanghaied him into helping with this year’s prank. England shows up with a jolly old fairy to scare America, but ends up spooked himself when Japan and England decide to use the unsettlingly friendly (but secretly dangerous) Russia as a “receptionist” to send their competition fleeing as soon as he opens the door. Now that’s some clever thinking!

7. The Pumpkin Treat Party from Himouto! Umaru-chan OVA – Episode 1

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="TDV-27342D" text="CD Japan" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 2 " aired=" October 2015 – April 2017 " post_id=""]

True to her lazy personality, Umaru gets into the Halloween spirit several weeks early and dresses up in a “monster” costume (really just a wolf kigurumi) so she can demand that Taihei make pumpkin treats for her and Kirie. Her older brother prepares quite the feast: pumpkin gratin served in the gourd, pumpkin pizza, pumpkin sauté, omurice, soup, and of course a pumpkin pie! Everything is actually made with a smaller green pumpkin variety called kabocha that serves as Japan’s closest substitute to the American orange pumpkin, but Umaru and Kirie don’t mind. They feel like they’ve been transported to a foreign country!

6. Cute and Scary Jack-o-Lanterns from Soul Eater NOT! – Episode 10

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B00FYHPHL6" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" April 2014 – July 2014 " post_id=""]

Soul Eater already incorporates Halloween imagery like witches and zombies into its world of teenage demon hunters, so it’s only natural that the holiday itself would be a momentous occasion at DWMA. In preparation for the Halloween festivities, Tsugumi makes adorable little jack-o-lanterns of her friends and shows them off in her dorm room. The sheltered and serious Anya, on the other hand, makes a terrifying jack-o-lantern with a sewn-together mouth and deep-set eyes because she heard that Halloween is supposed to be scary. This cute little moment is cut short when Tsugumi receives a letter that her beloved pet dog is on death’s door, which leads to a series of very somber scenes mixed in with Halloween merriment. The tonal consistency of this show could use some work, but at least we got some precious jack-o-lanterns out of it!

5. A Traditional Halloween from Hoozuki no Reitetsu 2nd Season (Hozuki’s Coolheadedness 2) – Episode 4

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B075FD4LBV" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 13 " aired=" October 2017 – December 2017 " post_id=""]

Halloween spirit is in full force in both Heaven and Hell this year, with the lecherous pharmacist Hakutaku enjoying the abundance of cute girls in revealing costumes. Hoozuki, however, forbids any kind of Halloween celebration unless it’s carried out in the traditional Celtic manner with turnip lanterns and a stronger emphasis on demons. This is one of very few anime that chooses to explore the British version of the holiday, if only because Hoozuki thinks that it resembles Obon and thus ties in more closely with Japanese Hell. Hoozuki and the Zashiki twins hatch a plan to recreate the Parade of a Hundred Demons, but it’s doubtful that it would actually be successful...

4. Haruhi Doesn’t Understand Halloween from Suzumiya Haruhi-chan no Yuuutsu (The Melancholy of Haruhi-chan Suzumiya) – Episode 13

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B002W6HS3W" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 25 " aired=" February 2009 – May 2009 " post_id=""]

Continuing on with the theme of Japanese people not really understanding Halloween, this parody spinoff of the Haruhi series shows what happens when the SOS Brigade attempts to celebrate the holiday in their clubroom. With only a single flyer depicting bats and a pumpkin-headed ghost to draw inspiration from, Haruhi cobbles together a monster of her own design. It’s a medical dummy stolen from the science classroom, dressed in a cloak and a carved-out pumpkin, with live bats tied to it with strings and a seaweed snack taped to its chest. Haruhi calls her project “enshrining the original god”.

3. Eiji Throws Ash a Halloween Party from Banana Fish – Episode 12

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="4789772861" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 24 " aired=" July 2018 – December 2018 " post_id=""]

New York gang leader Ash is in a very bad place emotionally after being forced to commit atrocities just to ensure the safety of his friends and family. Luckily, his closest friend and personal cheerleader Eiji has just the thing to make Ash smile again. He finds it adorable that Ash is creeped out by pumpkins, so he arranges a small Halloween party with the other gang members to prank his friend and force him to spend some peaceful time with them instead of being consumed by grief. Ash wears a genuine smile for the entire evening, deeply touched by Eiji’s gesture of kindness toward someone as broken as himself.

2. The Pumpkin Kingdom’s Treasure from Go! Princess Pretty Cure: Go! Go!! Gouka 3-bondate!!! (Go! Princess Pretty Cure: Go! Go!! Gorgeous Triple Feature!!!)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="PCBX-51667" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 1 " aired=" October 2015 " post_id=""]

This special movie for Go! Princess Precure, which is split into three mini features, is overflowing with Halloween magic. One segment shows a chibi version of Cure Flora playing with a magic mirror, while the other two tell the story of a pumpkin kingdom that has lost its princess to the evil Night Pumpkin. With the help of their new friend Refi, who has an enigmatic connection to the princess, the Precure girls save Princess Pumplulu from her prison and gain spectacular fall-themed dresses along the way. This movie is just silly, fluffy fun, but it’s so well done that you can’t help but smile.

1. Blood: The Last Vampire

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B00005HQDA" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 1 " aired=" November 2000 " post_id=""]

And going in the complete opposite direction, we have the gritty tale of Blood: The Last Vampire. Set in an American military base in Tokyo on the eve of the Vietnam War, the movie follows a stoic vampire girl named Saya who hunts bat-like monsters named chiropterans at the behest of a secret government agency. On Halloween night, a group of chiropterans descends upon the nearby high school and Saya is tasked with eliminating them before they can suck the blood of the innocent students. Besides being a legitimately great horror movie, Blood: The Last Vampire is also a pioneer in technology and presentation. It’s the first anime to blend 2D and 3D animation techniques, uses a unique mix of Japanese and English dialogue depending on which characters are speaking, and it launched an entire Blood franchise that follows Saya’s adventures in alternate universes. Be sure to experience this classic for yourself!

Halloween is upon us, people. Caramel apples, pumpkins, ghosts, ghouls, vampires, and so much more will be everywhere and that includes our anime. Admittedly, it is rather tough to find episodes that take place exactly on Halloween. It’s easy to find one about monsters, easy to find one that’s spooky, but not easy to find one that takes place on the holiday. Despite that, many shows will at least have a special Halloween special that is portrayed through a culture festival or through some other type of means. Without further ado, let’s get to the list!

10. Hyouka Episode 14

10-capture-hyouka
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" text="Episode 14" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 22 " aired=" Apr. 2012 – Sep. 2012 "]

Now Hyouka’s Halloween special is during a school festival and only has a small focus on Halloween to be honest. In fact, most of the episode is based around a cooking competition. However, you do get quite a few nice snapshots of some awesome costume choices, such as one who takes on Miku Hatsune. Nonetheless, the episode hits its high point when two girls from the confectionary intrude upon the Classic’s Club room. They’re dressed up with massive pumpkins covering their faces and they repeat trick or treat followed by a ‘yay!’. The scene is just somewhat off putting, but more than anything, ridiculous.

9. Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou (Daily Lives of High School Boys) Episode 4

9-capture-danshi-koukousei-no-nichijou-daily-lives-of-high-school-boys
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" text="Episode 4" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" Jan. 2012 – Mar. 2012 "]

There are a few awesome episodes in the Daily Lives of High School Boys where the rivalry between the sexes devolves into a pretty glorious battle. In episode 4, the battle is centered upon whether or not the boys’ haunted house will be able to make the girls scream. This is quite epic for several reasons. First off, battles of the sexes always make for awesome scenes. Secondly, the boys have a surprisingly terrifying house set up. To be honest, the style and graphic nature of the horrors they throw forth is extremely unexpected, considering the humorous nature of the show. Finally, the fact that Ringo, the president of the girl’s school, ends up wrecking the boy’s president, because she walks in on him changing, is perfect.

8. Gintama Episode 68

8-capture-gintama
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" text="Episode 68" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 201 " aired=" Apr. 2006 – Mar. 2010 "]

When you want to see Halloween done right, you need to watch this episode of Gintama. Gintama correctly captures two things about Halloween. The first is that costumes matter. This is something most shows capture as their characters don some type of outfit. However, Gintama does it better than most as each of its characters take on the get-ups of well-known horror stars. Gintoki takes on Jason and Kagura takes on Chuckie and Shinpachi, well Shinpachi didn’t get the memo and dressed up as a generic Yakuza member. However, when they’re forced to take on different costumes, the creators properly show off the last-minute ditch effort that people generally go through. The shows overall nonchalance about the holiday outside of dressing up is essentially what Halloween is for anyone too old to go trick or treating.

7. Orenchi no Furo Jijou (Merman in my Tub) Episode 5

7-capture-orenchi-no-furo-jijou-merman-in-my-tub
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" text="Episode 5" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 13 " aired=" Oct. 2014 – Dec. 2014 "]

Orenchi no Furo Jijou is one of those series that can basically take on any subject with ease and humor due to its styling and short nature. Well, on episode 5 they decided to take on Halloween and they captured the biggest part of it for anyone growing up. The candy. Yep, in this episode, it’s clear that the trio is really only interested in getting candy. However there were two standout moments that are fighting for top scene in this episode. The first is from the get go when Tatsumi asks Wakasa “why are you dressed like a woman?” Now there’s nothing wrong with dressing like a woman in the first place, but Wakasa’s response of “It’s the sad destiny of a blond” is pure gold. Then a little later on, when Tatsumi carves a jack-o-lantern, Takasu becomes the star of the show. He takes the pumpkin and shoves it on his head and begins to experience amounts of pleasure that feel inappropriate to describe.

6. Yamato Nadeshiko Shichihenge ♥ (The Wallflower) Episode 6

[Information episodes=" 25 " aired=" Oct. 2006 – Mar. 2007 "]

When you imagine Sunako, what do you imagine her favorite holiday to be? Christmas? Valentines’s Day? Come on, we all know her favorite must be Halloween and this episode makes that fact rather clear. Sadly, the only reason why this episode isn’t higher on this list is because only the beginning and end really focus on Halloween. Outside of those moments, it’s the crew just trying to figure out why Sunako is so sad. However, few events are as awesome as the beginning scene in any anime. What do we have? We have Sunako running with Jason and his lovely chainsaw, her skeleton Josephine, and the two anatomy figures. Her happiness and the creepiness of the entire scene are quite extraordinary.

5. Bleach Episode 304

5-capture-bleach
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" text="Episode 304 " url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 366 " aired=" Oct. 2004 – Mar. 2012 "]

It’s somewhat surprising that other shows that have a similarly high episode count don’t have a Halloween special. Shows like Naruto and One Piece both fall short in this department, but thankfully Bleach took the time to give us Halloween lovers a special treat. Episode 304 starts off with Ichigo waking up as Frankenstein’s monster and being convinced that he must be in a dream. Then Rukia pops up as a succubus and takes him to a castle, where a good chunk of the gang resides. Well, not too surprisingly is the fact that all of them have been monsterfied in some way. Hitsuguya’s a wolf, Uryu’s a vampire, Rangiku is a witch, Orihime’s a pumpkin ghost, and it’s all quite ridiculous to be honest. However, there are two particular moments that stand out, and they’re pretty close to one another. One is that Uryu refuses to drink blood and so is an anemic vampire and the other is that Rukia has an overt desire to seduce her older brother. Overall, the episode is ridiculous but good for a laugh or two.

4. Prism Paradise (PriPara) Episode 17

4-capture-prism-paradise-pripara
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" text="Episode 17" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 105 " aired=" Jul. 2014 - ? "]

Thought not actually terrifying, this Halloween episode captures just about every aspect there is to the holiday. It captures scaring people, epic costumes, as well as lots of candy. One of the main things going for this episode, is simply the overload of Halloween-related items they’re able to fit within each scene. It’s honestly pretty amazing. Admittedly, there are a lot of great scenes to choose from this episode, because the girls are constantly trying to scare one another and there’s even a point where Laala takes a selfie with bat balloons that’s just too much to handle. However, the actual performance part of the episode takes the cake as their outfit transformations are just spot on. The little touches, like bat wings, a witch’s hat, and neko pumpkins, are just amazing.

3. Doraemon Episode 580

3-capture-doraemon
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" text="Episode 580" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 600+ " aired=" Apr. 2005 -? "]

True to its nature, Doraemon’s Halloween special is actually quite educational. From the get go they discuss how it’s a festival to celebrate the autumn harvest as well as the meaning behind the words ‘trick or treat’. Thankfully, they cover that within the first minute, and from there on they have Goda take the idea of trick or treat too far. Admittedly, Nobi didn’t do a very good job of explaining what Halloween is actually about, but Goda shouldn’t really go about coercing people into giving him free things. Though there are a lot of great moments in this episode, such as Nobi dressing up as a knight by means of newspapers, none are as awesome as the full-on battle that ensues by the end of the episode. Goda, acting as the famous thief Goemon, summons an army of the undead that the crew has to defeat.

2. Ouran Host Club Episode 21

2-capture-ouran
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" text="Episode 21 " url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 26 " aired=" Apr. 2006 – Sep. 2006 "]

Scream challenges and tests of courage have a pretty big role in Halloween. Class 1-A takes on this tradition by splitting up into teams and seeing which team can scare the other better. Enticing each team is the fact that the losers will be featured in the school newsletter with the headline “The Captains of All Cowards.” The whole episode has some pretty epic moments. There’s Honey jumping out with a massive pumpkin on his head, Tamaki seducing girls as a vampire, and the episode finishes up with Nekozawa scaring the entirety of Class 1-A with a shadow of Beelzenef. However, the shining moment of the episode is when Haruhi and Hikaru get caught up in a net and have a rather intimate, if not awkward, moment. It was one of those moments that really gave shippers of the two something to enjoy.

1. Cowboy Bebop: Tengoku no Tobira (Cowboy Bebop: Knockin on Heaven’s Door)

1-cowboy-bebop-capture
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" text="Cowboy Bebop: Tengoku no Tobira" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 1 " aired=" Sep. 2001 "]

With Shinichiro Watanabe’s love for references within his work, especially ones directed at Western culture, it’s no surprise that a few scenes within this movie (which takes place in late October) have nice little shout outs to Halloween. Though the entirety of the movie isn’t dedicated to the holiday by any means, it still earns nostalgia points every so often with a well-placed pumpkin. In the very first scene, with the robbery, there’s actually a pumpkin balloon in the store. Little touches like that help create an overall nostalgic tone to the movie, which works on multiple levels, considering how the movie in many ways feels like we’re receiving a flashback of the Bebop crew when it was still fully together. Nonetheless, the hat must be tipped to the scene where Ed decides to pretend to be a trick or treater by shoving a pumpkin over her head. Sadly, it’s the day before Halloween so the first person comes out with a shotgun. The second person believes Ed is giving a little more suggestive ring.

Conclusion:

Halloween is simply fun for animators. It provides an opportunity to spice up the visuals as well as throw in a few laughs. It’s an enjoyable way to lighten up the mood and make viewers feel a little nostalgic. Now, were there any amazing Halloween scenes that were missed and should have been included on the list?

Bem Introduction

Based on Youkai Ningen Bem, which originally debuted in October 1968, the 2019 edition to Bem is actually the second reboot of this classic (the first reboot was broadcasted in 2006, and it had a live action series in 2011). Like its original counterparts, the three main characters are Bem, Bela, and Belo, through “youkai ningen,” or immortal humanoid monsters who wish to become human. However, due to their appearances and the actions of other youkai ningen, people immediately fear them and they’re are always quick to blame our heroes for whatever problems that happen in the “outside,” or the hood of the city they reside in. However, with the help of Sonia Summers, a detective who was transferred to the outside, maybe the main trio can show that not all youkai ningen are bad and envy humans.

Why You Should Watch Bem
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="NEOGDS-356738" text="" url="" ]

1. It Has Excellent Themes

While its themes may not be original, they’re still executed rather well. The motivations of Bem, Bela, and Belo all come from a real place and the series gives you the opportunity to see what drives them. While they’re immortal, their immortality gives them a point of view where everything seems to be trivial and by gaining mortality, they can get a better sense of what life is truly about and why people value it. As the famous Queen song goes, who wants to live forever?, and the series does a great job of exploring that very question.

2. Sharp Designs

Like the 2019 Dororo series, this is a remake. While the original Dororo does take inspiration from its source material for its respective designs, the character designs in Bem are entirely different from its source material to suit its respective story and setting. While this particular quality is more for a Then Vs. Now article (which we’ll make at some point), we’ll mostly concentrate on the 2019 series. The designs to the 2019 Bem are very sharp, and they do a great job of reflecting modern day anime techniques and how the youkai genre has evolved this past decade. The city portrayed in this city is very accurate in its architecture to modern American metropolises, most notably the Big Apple. While Bem, Bela, and Belo are in their human forms, granted they do have qualities that are demonic with their ears and eyes, they can still blend-in with humans as they normally interact with them, but with their stoic expressions, you can see they can only view humans externally and still can’t internalize what they’re about.

3. Varied Soundtrack

If you like a variety of music with your anime, then Bem has it all. If you want pop, techno, jazz, or something orchestrated, Bem has it all to set the mood. The opening them is a jazz tune to get you into the classic noir setting, and the ending theme borrows more from J-pop to give you more of an upbeat perspective, and the music within the duration of the episodes are largely orchestrated to suit its action and horror settings. Overall, the music does a well-rounded job of introducing you to its world.

[ad_middle class="mt40"]
Why You Should Skip Bem

1. Poor Use of Sonia

Sonia serves as our introductory character to the series. Through her, we first learn of the outside (think of it as Chicago’s South Side or LA’s South Central, but with monsters), of Bem and his allies, and the youkai ningen. You learn that she can’t stand the corruption and she’s world weary of being a police officer. After the first episode, she’s in and out and she’s just in the anime just for the sake of it. Throughout most of the series, she more or less feels underwhelming and her role as a surrogate for the audience just disappears. You don’t really learn more about her until the climax (which is very minimal and told in passing), and her individual development and her development with Bem are pretty much forced and inorganic.

2. The Series Is Too Short

As it relates to the poor use of Sonia, considering the two first incarnations of Bem were 26 or so episodes, it just feels insulting that the latest edition gets only 12. If the series were given 26 episodes, there’s no doubt that Sonia could’ve gotten the development she deserved. The first episode provides an excellent foundation to her character, and after that, as we shared before, the ball is more or less taken from her and her use as a surrogate for the audience is taken out.

3. Showing Vs. Telling Balance

When it comes to a shorter series, it doesn’t allow much opportunity to fully build the world. Granted some things are revealed at the last minute, but with more episodes, you get more opportunities to tell a more enriching story. Granted you do learn some things, but for example, nobody really talks about why the outside is the way it is, etc. It more or less relates to the argument of showing vs. telling. The anime has a lot of showing, but it lacks telling. We’ll admit most people rather want showing over telling, but there are some instances where a balance is necessary, and Bem is one example of that.

Final Thoughts

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="2020CL-45" text="" url="" ]

We’ll admit after watching this series, we’re very interested in its previous installments and when the time comes, we’ll do a Then Vs. Now comparing comparing all versions. Nobody can deny, the youkai genre is progressively getting oversaturated, but when you take into account this is a remake of a 50 year old series, in a sense, you’re watching one of the OG youkai anime that takes place in a modern setting but made for modern day audiences.

Top 5 Scenes in CAROLE & TUESDAY 2nd Cours

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="NEOGDS-354450" text="" url="" ]

While Carole & Tuesday were disqualified on a technicality due to circumstances beyond their control in the finals of Mars’ Brightest, at the insistence of Angela, who didn’t want to win on a technicality, demanded the judges to allow them to perform. Though they couldn’t win, they still got their due. With Angela getting a record deal, Carole & Tuesday are still in a position to still top her as Mars’ next big hit as they team up with Toby, an old school producer, to make an album that will forever change the fate of Mars. However, things start to heat up as both of their pasts catch up with them. So for the latter half of Carole & Tuesday, we wish to share our top 5 scenes. WARNING: THERE ARE GOING TO BE SPOILERS!

5. Ezekiel’s Video From a Jail Cell (Episode 21)

In the second half, American viewers can obviously come to the conclusion that a lot of scenes portrayed take influence from ICE’s raids on immigrants who are allegedly in the country illegally. In this series, alleged undocumented migrants are being detained in detention centers, and one of them is Ezekiel, a notable hip hop artist who happens to be a childhood friend of Carole. While imprisoned, he manages to convince the guards to shoot a video of him in a cell, and what we’re saying here more or less explains it all. It’s probably even more powerful than the prison version of Michael Jackson’s They Don’t Really Care About Us. He makes a music video from prison about the system and it’s the ultimate political statement anyone can make through art that you have to see for yourself.

4. Carole Reuniting With Her Father (Episode 13 and 14)

When Carole & Tuesday competed on Mars’ Brightest, Carole publicly shared that she was a refugee from Earth and wanted to reunite with her family. Shortly after her appearance, lots of people were coming forward claiming to be her family hoping they could mooch off of her, but knowing their game, Carole brushed them off. At the laundromat she frequents, she meets a man named Dan, who defended her from these false claimers. Due to how he acknowledged Carole as just a regular young lady, they were able to form a friendship. Eventually, Dan shares his background with Carole and before he can go back to Earth, Carole is able to come to her own conclusions that he’s her father and share a genuine father and daughter moment.

3. Mars’ Grammy’s (Episode 22)

As it turns out, the tradition of the Grammy’s has continued onto Mars and Carole & Tuesday get a chance to perform on the biggest stage with one of Mars’ hottest singers, Crystal! Their song, After the Fire, is another politically driven song in response to Tuesday’s mother’s destructive rhetoric. However, even if things are destroyed, we can learn that we can rebuild and move forward. Granted it has a lot of dark settings, ultimately, it’s an uplifting song about hope and that in the end, everything’s going to be alright once all the bad things pass.

2. Mother (Episode 24)

The last episode of Carole & Tuesday can pretty much be the anime equivalent to We Are The World. In order to reach out to Tuesday’s mother, Carole & Tuesday decide to make a New Year’s concert by gathering all of Mars’ greatest musicians to make a song about love. Granted Valerie isn’t the president, anti-immigration policies are still enacted by the incumbent Hamilton administration as they even try to put a stop to the concert! But thanks to the efforts of Gus and concert hall security, Mars’ finest can make the greatest performance in Mars’ history. The song Mother perfectly sums up the themes of this second half of we should do away with prejudice, learn to be accepting of one another, and that a mother should be an example of how we should conduct ourselves.

1. Flora (Episode 16)

At number one, we have to give it to the backstory of Flora, an old friend of Gus who happens to be one of Mars’ hottest 20 years prior to the series. While she’s past her prime by the time she’s introduced in the series, many young artists, most notably Carole, still look up to her and say they wouldn’t have gotten into music if it wasn’t for her. What makes Flora very unique is that the background story almost parallels that of Whitney Houston’s. Her singing style, the fact that she performed at the equivalent to a Super Bowl and her unfortunate fall will instantly make you think of their similarities. What makes this scene powerful is that it reminds us that even with all the fame, it doesn’t mean you have everything if you don’t genuinely have love in your life, and that’s what Flora seems to have ultimately lost when you see at her at her lowest. But thanks to Carole & Tuesday showing that people still love her, she finds the courage to keep on living.

Final Thoughts

If Elon Musk wants to get to Mars by 2025, then he seriously needs to watch these selected scenes to get an idea of where he wants its future to go. It provides ideas of where we need to go with not just music, but with policy as well. The notion of migrating to Mars is the perfect opportunity for mankind to move forward and Carole & Tuesday is a good example that we shouldn’t stick to some of our present ways. In the end, we are all one and if we’re to migrate to Mars or some other planet some day, we have to stop looking at what makes us different. Carole & Tuesday came from opposite backgrounds, however, they became the best of friends. If two young ladies can do that, so can everyone.

Science Triumphs!

It seemed too easy right? Kinro with his “glasses” now seemed destined to win against Magma. Yet, Kinro--being the extremely honest and rule abiding man he is--asked the referee if using said mask went against the rules. Of course, Kinro would have been granted a pass seeing as how the mask didn’t directly hit anyone but Magma attacks our sure win warrior causing the team of science to lose the first round. Things don’t improve when Kohaku loses by default to Senku thanks to her trying to find our young mask wearing girl and thus the odds seem against team science. Magma ends up going against Chrome and obviously as strong as Chrome has become, he’s still no match for the clearly tougher Magma. However, Chrome has shown he’s like Senku, clever and always able to adapt. Using the broken mask and it’s lens, Chrome attempts to set Magma’s clothes on fire. Senku frets due to the various limitations of time and the ability to capture light on the lens but help arrives from an unlikely source, Gen! With some manipulation and playing with the rules, team science is able to buy Chrome time to indeed set Magma’s clothes ablaze and knock him off the edge when he begins to panic. Team science has won and now the tournament will be a battle between friends for bragging rights! Yet, who will ultimately win this tournament and marry Ruri!? We can’t wait to find out and it should be pretty exciting to see in next week’s episode!

Easing Back into the Journey

Meghan May Dellinger

Gran and his crew are continuing their adventures across the vast skies, heading to a small island to discover the cause of a strange noise that has been disturbing the villagers. They meet a martial artist named Aliza, and together discover that the Erste Empire has been torturing the primal beast of the island. Gran’s crew subdues the creature, and are on their way to the next island when the Erste Empire stops them to offer a peace treaty of sorts… I am honestly so excited for more of Granblue Fantasy The Animation! Though the new animation style is a little jarring when compared to last season’s, it seems to be just as beautiful in every element that matters, and it was about time that the Black Knight got some CG work, since the design is so difficult to animate. This episode was more like a filler adventure to introduce Aliza and get us back into the setting. As such, the overall plot and battle against the primal beast were pretty straightforward this time around. While this was a little disappointing to start off the season, it was nice to have the small introduction for Aliza, since she might not be back. Both the new intro and the last few scenes of this episode promises a lot more for the plot this season, and we might even find out who the Black Knight is!

So far, Askeladd has presented himself as a capable leader, but one who’s arrogant and greedy at heart. But he does seem to be hiding something, since his right-hand man, Bjorn, only knows the barest details about his life even after serving him for decades. While negotiating with the Welsh army, Askeladd reveals that he’s of mixed Danish and Welsh blood – from his mother’s side, he’s a descendant of the great Brittanian commander Artorius, upon whom Arthurian legend is based. He fights for the Danes out of convenience, but his real goal is to secure a position in the Danish government to protect Wales’ future. Or so he says, anyway. With this new nugget of information uncovered, who knows what Askeladd could really be plotting? Meanwhile, Thorfinn taunts Prince Canute for acting like a sniveling coward when just a few words from his royal mouth could’ve saved the army tons of trouble with negotiation. To the dumbfounded shock of everyone present, the previously silent Canute retorts back that he refuses to speak out of caution rather than cowardice and that Thorfinn would never understand how hard it is being a part of the dog-eat-dog world of the royal family. Now that we know that Askeladd has ulterior motives and that Prince Canute isn’t just a shy little wimp, things are getting much more interesting! What could possibly happen next?

Thanks to his deadbeat parents, Iruma Suzuki has been forced to work his whole life in order to support himself. One day while working on a fishing boat, Iruma finds out he has been sold to a demon named Sullivan, who wants Iruma to be his grandson and attend a demon school. Iruma's first day is anything is easy thanks to his new demon grandfather who just so happens to be the principal of the school. Iruma is forced to give a speech in front of the whole school where he chants a forbidden spell that could have killed and then he is challenged by Asmodeus, one of the strongest demons at the school. Thanks to having lived an unfortunate life, Iruma is able to use his unique skills to handle every obstacle that presents itself as he manages to get through his first day in one piece. Everything about Mairimashita! Iruma-kun is ridiculous and hilarious. Mairimashita! Iruma-kun feels like a very unique anime and it is exciting to watch from beginning to end. However, the battle between Iruma and Asmodeus was by far the best moment in the episode. Not only was it funny, but it was also an exciting action sequence. The whole scene is just so engrossing I was really blown away at just how great it was. There are so many great moments in this first episode that I'm excited to see what else this show has in store for us.

Follow Ryza and her friends on a brand new and exciting alchemy adventure!
  • System: PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, PC(Steam)
  • Publisher: Koei Tecmo Games
  • Developer: Koei Tecmo Games, Gust
  • Release Date: September 26th, 2019 [October 29th, 2019 NA]

Who it Caters to

Ever since the birth of the first title, the Atelier series has always received acclaim for its captivating stories, strong character relationships, and a long enriching adventure to become the best alchemist. Alchemy is of course a primary focal point of the series, as much of the gameplay is immersed within it and players will need to master synthethis techniques in order to progress the story, as well as allow for more diverse creations through gathering materials. Anyone who’s new to the Atelier series we’ll be honest, the gameplay will require you to do a lot of gathering when compared to battling, and so therefore this creates a slow paced progression system which places more emphasis on creation than actual battles over time. This isn't to say that battles aren't frequent it's more that your alchemy level plays a very big role in the game and is of great benefit during long battles, so taking your time is key. With that being said, this brings us to Ryza no Atelier ~Tokoyami no Joou to Himitsu no Kakurega~ (Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout), the brand new title in the ongoing Atelier universe. Built with the intention of enticing new players but introducing new mechanics for veterans to enjoy, will Ryza and her friends create an adventure that will be memorable? Read on to find out more.

What to Expect

As a disclaimer, we are reviewing the Japanese copy of the game and as such, the screenshots that will be used in this review will reflect that. Much of the gameplay will be very much retained and so we hope that fans will pick this up when it launches Oct 29th in the west. For now, let’s talk about what to expect from Atelier Ryza and what helps it stand out from its predecessors. For starters, a brand new synthesis system has been introduced which allows players to be more precise in their creations, giving birth to powerful tools, weapons, explosives, among other things. The interface has been visually enhanced and now displays the required materials and effects that can be added for a much easier alchemy process. The ‘Linkage Synthesis’ system features a number of fixed cells that players can now unlock through concise item placement, which now help to expand the number of results the player can discover, through cell branches. More notably, there are special types of cells that allow players to unlock fresh new recipes which encourages players even more to dive deeper, and experiment with various items to see their results! More on the gameplay side later on but let’s continue and dive into the story, along with the visual upgrades, and more.
[ad_top2 class="mt40 mb40"]

Story

Ryza no Atelier ~Tokoyami no Joou to Himitsu no Kakurega~ (Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout), revolves around the life of Ryza, a young and aspiring girl who dreams to explore the world in order to create new memories with her friends. They all embark on a wonderful adventure to experience adulthood, but also to discover what is most important to them.

Visuals

Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout goes above and beyond to create a lush and beautiful world that feels more real, granting players new and familiar to the series a wonderful immersive experience. Character designs have received a major improvement as Ryza along with her colleagues Lent, Tao, and Claudia all look more lifelike which compliments the world around them. Lush green forests, beautiful wooded style towns, and sparkling blue waters really pop out more in this game and really hit you the moment you start running around and exploring. The overall UI in the game has seen a drastic overhaul which now allows for more freedom in battle, and just more organization to maintain harmony. The way in which characters move in the game however is still quite stiff, much like previous Atelier games which surprised us, considering how much effort was placed on creating a more realistic experience. Be that as it may, Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout still looks fantastic both inside and outside of battle, making gathering objectives so much more exhilarating.

Sound, Music

Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout doesn’t disappoint in this area and maintains that Atelier charm that many of us have grown to love. With its cheerful and upbeat melodies both in battle and outside of battle, the emotions players will feel are that of a young and aspiring adventurer which really speak volumes in this game. Players will certainly feel more immersion as the world absorbs you in and you bask in the cornucopia of colors that you see along the journey, with music that compliments it entirely. The voice acting in the game is solid and each character really sounds authentic which once again, helps to bring the story together beautifully. Whether it's the air headedness of Claudia, the brave and valiant Rent speaking his mind, or the very cautious and timid Tao trying to avoid battles, each character feels organic which allows you to build a relationship with them.

Gameplay

As we explained briefly earlier in the review, Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout has introduced brand new mechanics that help to enrich the experience. One thing that we’d like to touch on a little bit more is the special change recipe cells and how they can affect the game in the long run. The new ‘Item Rebuild’ process is a feature that allows players to take those very same special items they created and use them again during synthesis. When players rebuild an item it increases the likelihood that the item will become much stronger, and the more times you rebuild the same item the more superior it will become. So this encourages players to really go above and beyond like never before in the Atelier series, granting the ability to really create some powerful tools for battle. There is of course a caveat to all of this though and it’s that, the more you do rebuild an item, over time it increases in dexterity which could potentially limit the amount of characters that can use the item. It creates a choice in the players mind as to whether they’d like to focus more on ease of use or overall strength, which will all depend on the situation that players encounter along the way. Speaking of situations, players will likely find themselves in a variety of them since you’ll be heading out to do a lot of gathering to grab the right items for synthesis. As you head out into unfamiliar territory you'll encounter enemies that will put you to the test and will encourage you to engage with consideration. The new battle system in Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout gives players a more real-time experience as now your characters can continue their assault simultaneously and not have to wait their turn in order to dish out damage. This adds another element of creativity as players can now swap between characters at the drop of a hat and designate attacks to certain enemies, or create powerful combos. Another new feature allows you to build your tactical meter which grows in power per level, and opens up a new window of attacks that players can utilize. You’re also able to simply do a quick attack if you just want to dish out immediate hits but for those who really want to push heavy damage, taking advantage of your tactical meter will be paramount in the more difficult battles late game. You can instruct your team on how you want to play during battle as well, as on the left hand side of the screen there’s a bar that visually tells you whether to go more offensive or play more passive. By pressing down on the d-pad you can change between these actions at any time, once again opening up more opportunities to take advantage of the enemy and deal the necessary damage to come out on top. It’s very simple and intuitive, which is a big plus for us, but also it does a great job of notifying you what’s happening on screen.
Aside from the real-time battle system in place, Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout feels just like any other Atelier title which is both good and bad, which we’ll dive into next.
[ad_middle class="mt40 mb40"]

Honey's Gameplay Consensus:

So in the end, Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout tackles a lot of the past concerns that players had pertaining to the synthesis system, adding in cool features to help encourage more creativity. The real-time battle format helps to create a more free-form style of gameplay and keeps the pace of the game moving in your favor, rather than the more traditional turn-based style the series is notable for. Some players may not favor the new changes but we can safely say that with time you’ll likely find the added features to be rewarding, yet challenging to master. We wished that the character animations were more fluid and not as stiff as they’ve always been, considering this is the 21st title in the main entry series and the PlayStation 4 has more than enough juice left to develop more concise character movement. Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout felt at times a lot like Blue Reflection with its very clever use of special effects pertaining to magic, and the way in which animations looked. Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout is a solid improvement over its past iterations but still requires a bit of fine tuning when it comes to diversifying gameplay a bit more.

Honey's Pros:

  • The new synthesis system really does help to create more immersion, and gives players that true Alchemy experience.
  • Voicing is spot on and we love how each character feels organic.
  • Detailed environments, improved battle mechanics, and better use of colors make this perhaps the best Atelier game to date.

Honey's Cons:

  • We really wish that Gust would just add more realism to character movements and not make them look so stiff when running around in the world.
  • The game can feel slow-paced due to traveling around a lot to gather materials. This may turn off new players who are looking for a more action-oriented experience.

Honey's Final Verdict:

While the gathering and battle aspects of the game are quintessential to the Atelier experience, we wish that more was done to really create more involvement with other characters, perhaps allowing for multiple characters to gather with you, rather than Ryza just wandering on her own. The game is slow-paced but that’s a given considering the title, though it’s something to mention since new players may not be familiar with the ebb and flow of how Atelier titles work. Be that as it may, the game was charming and lighthearted which gave us feelings of joy as we played it. We hope you discover that same feeling too. Be sure to check out our reviews on the previous titles, and let us know your thoughts below! Until next time!

5 Ghoul Anime Boys In the Last Five Years

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="viz" url="https://www.viz.com/blog/posts/collect-your-ghouls" ]

Ghouls are some of the scariest creatures in the supernatural and horror genre. The history of ghouls began in the 8th century in the Arabian region. Pre-Islamic legend tells the story of a demon-like monster that lures travelers astray. Wandering in the desert, travelers couldn’t find their way out. Unable to pinpoint a familiar location, travelers exhausted themselves to death and then, ghouls consumed the flesh of the dead. Ghouls were also known as grave robbers, taking everything of value, leaving nothing behind. Later in the 18th century, ghoul folklore was introduced to the Western world and expanded in definition as undead monsters. In popular culture today, specifically anime, there are many types of ghouls differing in origin, abilities, and how to destroy them. Ghoul appearances know no bounds and it’s exciting to see how these scary monsters play out. While some anime about ghouls go unnoticed, there are a few exceptional ghoul boys that stick out from the crowd. As we go back through the last five years, we unearth a lot of fan favorites. So here’s what we gathered for you.

Normally, Utsutsu is a friendly guy, but the Pupa part of him makes him violent and destructive, as it wants to assert itself and consume him fully. 4. Friday from Shisha no Teikoku (The Empire of Corpses)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="NEOBK-1884113" text="" url="" ]
[information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="1" item2="Air Date" content2="October 2015" ]

The Empire of Corpses captures the advancements of humankind in a parallel 18th Century, England. Scientists have developed technology that allows corpses to be programmed to service the needs of humans. Leading the charge is Dr. Victor Frankenstein vanished shortly after his revolutionary work on corpse reanimation. As it is known, a body without a soul is completely void of life, however, rumors have circulated that Dr. Frankenstein revived the only corpse with a soul. Continuing Dr. Frankenstein’s research, London medical student John Watson hopes to fulfill his promise to his late partner. As he reviews the notes, Watson learns of the complexities of corpse technology and the lengths he must go to by advancing this knowledge. Watson’s research created Friday as a tribute to his colleague who sacrificed himself in the name of science. However, Friday is nothing like the living version. Like many undead characters, his appearance encompasses what a ghoul would look like: pale, rail-thin, and lifeless. Long ago, for a decade, deadly parasites called Gastrea rose to the top of the food chain. Unclear of their origin, many speculate that Gastrea were once human. The year is 2021 A.D. In this era, the monstrous parasite killed off most of the population. The remaining few have come to reside in the Monolith walls, a secured area composed of Varanium, the only element that can cripple Gastrea. Second-year student and Promoter Rentaro Satomi is one of many fighting against Gastrea. One Day, in a deadly Gastrea attack, Rentaro lost his right leg, arm, and left eye. While lying on the operating table, Rentaro is given a choice: life or death. A woman scribbles on some paper and is asked a critical question. After countless hours, several doctors saved Rentaro after signing a contract to live. The woman who created this contract becomes a great influence on Rentaro’s life. Some of the conditions he agreed to were to aid in some experimental research. As such, many of the limbs he lost in the attack were replaced with artificial ones made with Varanium. Neither living nor dead according to his human/Gastrea ratio, ghoul boy Rentaro has become a weapon of destruction, and this is why he’s on top of the list.

Uchi no Ko no Tame naraba, Ore wa Moshikashitara Maou wo Taoseru Kamoshirenai Introduction and Story (No Spoilers)

Dale Reki is an 18-year-old respected traveller known to many in the city of Kreuz as one of the best adventurers out. While hunting for magical beasts in the forest, he finds a little girl of the demon race named Latina. She is hungry and alone after her father dies, so Dale decides to take her in as his own. Her sweet compassionate nature renders Dale a doting parent, enjoying the various challenges of parenthood while juggling his life as an adventurer. However, various mysteries surrounding Latina concern Dale and the people around him. Latina herself grows as she is exposed to a somewhat human life. The very first thing we are introduced to in the anime is the fantasy setting. We are shown Dale Reki in the middle of one of his adventures and it is immediately clear that he is no ordinary adventurer. Little Latina is the main element of the show and she is an immediate catch – small, cute and incredibly sharp, the audience is already able to sympathise with her and in this regard, Uchi no Ko does very well to make the audience feel like Dale Reki themselves. After he adopts Latina, Dale assumes the role of a doting father, wishing that he didn’t have to work so that he could spend all of his time with his daughter. However, as the short series progresses, we see elements of world-building as it is made apparent that Latina’s broken horn is a symbol of a criminal in the world of the demons; in addition to the discrimination Latina experiences while attending school with human children. The series mainly tracks Latina’s growth as a child and as a character living in an environment that is, for the most part, extremely healthy given the brutality of the world in which they live; brutality which is only ever alluded to.

Why You Should Watch Uchi no Ko
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="https://www.crunchyroll.com/if-its-for-my-daughter-id-even-defeat-a-demon-lord" ]

1. Latina

As far as main characters go, Latina is the prime example of an extremely likeable character. Not only is she adorable and highly intelligent, she also has a seemingly dark past. The anime itself sets Latina up to be everyone’s favourite character and even all the other characters have a hard time disliking her because she oozes compassion and a sense of responsibility towards herself and the people who changed her life.

2. It’s Cute, Dude

As mentioned before, Latina’s likeability is the show’s biggest selling point; however, Uchi no Ko as a series is overall an incredibly adorable show with a cast of characters that are all decent people. With the exception of three characters, all of whom are minor, Latina’s compassionate nature is greatly reflected by the community in which she lives. Seeing the powerful adventurer Dale Reki turn into putty whenever Latina pouts or is upset in anyway tugs at heartstrings, although his performance of parental duties borders on obsessive.

3. Perfect Watch For Downtime

After watching an extremely jarring, entertaining or even downright distressing anime, Uchi no Ko has the advantage of being like a palate cleanser. The show is perfect for watching in between shows that are more demanding of the viewer and being only twelve episodes in length, Uchi no Ko is the very embodiment of the phrase “short and sweet”.

[ad_middle class="mt40"]
Why You Should Skip Uchi no Ko

1. Lacklustre Worldbuilding and Open Ends

Despite being set up in a fantasy world, most of the world’s fixtures in Uchi no Ko are mentioned in passing or serve only as minor story elements. There are important elements about the Uchi no Ko universe that are needed in order to answer important questions about Latina’s past and the overall composition of the world in which she lives. At the end of the twelve episodes, there is a feeling of incompleteness with the series as it fails to use the elements it laid out for itself. While it is a plus that the show does not take itself too seriously, there is the feeling that perhaps it would have become an excellent anime had it been paced with the long-term in mind.

Final Thoughts

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="COXC-1227" text="" url="" ]

In closing, Uchi no Ko is a good show for those who enjoy slice of life anime. Since it features a father-daughter relationship, it may be reminiscent of shows like Bunny Drop (not the manga) and Amaama to Inazuma (Sweetness and Lightning), shows which focus more on the development of the child character and their parent, as well as the dynamic between the two. If you like cute anime, Uchi no Ko is definitely what you’re looking for.

Top 5 Scenes in Dr. Stone

Removing the petrification on our eyes in the Summer season of 2019, Dr Stone is an anime that has elements that make it feel like the quintessential Shounen anime; however, it features a plotline that we haven’t seen before. Post-apocalyptic anime are a dime a dozen; however, Dr Stone uses that particular element in order to draw us in to the world before placing the focus on the sheer genius of the main character, Ishigami Senku. Being a Shounen anime, Dr Stone is not without its moments of pure hype, so we thought we’d revisit five of the best scenes from the series thus far!

Senku’s Revival - Episode 5

After their near-death experience with some hungry lions, Senku and Taiju are saved by the strongest middle-schooler pre-petrification. Shishio Tsukasa ends up becoming Senku’s foil and sworn rival, and when it is revealed that they both want to create civilization, conflict ensues due to clashing beliefs. Tsukasa decides that the only way to ensure that his vision for society is realized is for him to murder Senku. He seemingly kills Senku; however, Senku’s brilliance and willingness to bet everything on a single risky factor makes all the difference. Tsukasa goes for the instant kill, aiming for the nape of Senku’s neck; however, Senku had forged a habit of cracking his neck, a habit he’d never had prior to their petrification. When the distraught Yuzuriha and Taiju investigate, they find a fragment of petrification on Senku’s neck and use his revival fluid on the area, hence reconstructing the cells in Senku’s neck and leading to his revival.

Senku, Meet Kohaku - Episode 6

Senku decides that his best bet at creating a nation of science would be to continue his work while using his apparent death as a cover. He sends Yuzuriha and Taiju to infiltrate the Tsukasa Empire and work from within, while Senku decides to head elsewhere to start his nation of science. He soon finds a young woman trapped under heavy trees, so he uses his mind to work out a way to free her. Having revealed that she has met Tsukasa, the woman is wary of Senku but after seeing how he helped her out of her predicament with nothing but his mind and the materials around him, she takes an interest in him. She introduces herself as Kohaku, one of a few humans who does not seem to be of the vast human race that experienced petrification. At this point, the Dr Stone world grew immensely.

Shishio Tsukasa: King of Lions - Episode 2

When Senku and Taiju are working hard to survive, as well as to synthesize revival fluid to bring back the scores of people in their vicinity who were petrified, they are attacked by a group of hungry lions. With no chance of survival, Taiju tells Senku about the legendary middle-schooler said to be the strongest of them all: Shishio Tsukasa. With no alternatives, Senku dumps the little bit of revival fluid they had on the petrified Tsukasa, which revives him. Upon his revival, he calmly asks them, “What is the situation?” before killing a lion with a single punch!

Let There Be Light - Episode 9

During the early stages of the Village Arc, Senku had managed to convince Chrome to assist him in his science. His goal was to create a generator, one which would provide electricity. He manages to elicit the help of the village guards Kinro and Ginro, and with Tsukasa Empire spy Asagiri Gen in the audience, Senku’s hard work pays off as he makes the stone world’s first ever electric light bulb. The sight of the bright light in the dead of night prompts one of the only genuine reactions from Asagiri that we’ve seen in the series thus far.

The Eyes of Science - Episode 11

Dr Stone presents a tournament arc in the village where Kohaku lives. The winner is to be betrothed to Kohaku’s sister, Ruri, the village priestess. In order to win and gain true leverage in the village for the sake of the nation of science, Senku’s ragtag crew needed to find someone capable of defeating Magma, the strongest man in the village, in combat. Kinro turns out to be their saviour, initially suffering a barrage of attacks due to the simple fact that he is near-sighted. Having had her vision cured by Senku’s manufacturing of glassware, Suika does something amazing – tossing her now glass-eyed helmet in Kinro’s direction. He jumps dramatically and intercepts the helmet, catching it perfectly on his head. With his vision no longer impared, Kinro lays a hefty and satisfying barrage of attacks on Magma, but it isn’t necessarily enough to win…

Final Thoughts

Dr Stone is an anime filled with wondrous moments, but also moments of pure comedy. It is a clear standout title in 2019, coming in hot with various other Summer releases that have kept us right in our seats! With less than 15 episodes of the series currently aired, the show still has much to show us and many more epic moments to keep us entertained for long after the series ends. Samurai 8: Hachimaru Den chapter 21 doesn’t waste a second on continuing the battle royale where we left off. We finally learn the numbers are indeed the amount of samurai left and we also learn a few extra rules. The first rule is that if a key is shattered, that player is out. The second, regeneration is off meaning you have one shot and one shot only in this battle. The final rule is that the last samurai standing faces down the organizer and if they win, that person will earn one billion yen! With those rules—and differing desires—out of the way, our samurai begin to whittle down the competition. There are some close calls here and there—especially when Ann is almost held captive—but our samurai seem to be doing quite well. Hachimaru is forced to face down Ann’s savior in a one on one duel to show he has a bit to learn about the concept of heroism if he wishes to be a true samurai/protector to Ann! During their face off, Daruma notices Hachimaru is showing a white samurai soul leading him to believe that he’s finally understanding the ways of a samurai! Be that as it may, does Hachimaru stand a chance against this tough looking samurai!? Chapter 22 can’t come sooner, but until it drops this weekend, let us talk more in depth about chapter 21 of Samurai 8: Hachimaru Den!

Why You Should Read Samurai 8: Hachimaru Den (Samurai 8: The Tale of Hachimaru) Chapter 21
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="viz" url="https://www.viz.com/blog/posts/shonen-jump-new-chapters-05-12-19" ]

1. The Numbers Are Dwindling Already!

Our battle royale hasn’t lasted for more than 2 chapters but already the survivor count is below 200! At this rate, our tourney shouldn’t last too long—which might be a good way to avoid unnecessary filler—and we should get to the bigger battles soon! Speaking of big battles…

2. One vs One: Hachimaru versus ???

Samurai 8: Hachimaru Den chapter 21 threw us into a slew of simple fights but ends with a faceoff between Hachimaru and Ann’s unknown hero. This fellow samurai seems to understand how to be a true warrior as he clearly has a princess and knows the elements of being a true heroic samurai. Can Hachimaru really win against this guy or will he lose before ever getting to face down the tournament organizer!?

Final Thoughts

Samurai 8: Hachimaru Den has only been getting better and better with each passing chapter. Our 21st entry into this series didn’t once miss a beat offering a solid chapter filled with action, drama and a new duel commencing! Will Hachimaru show off his inner strength and best this clearly superior samurai? We feel—since this is a shounen series—that Hachimaru has nothing to fear but who knows for sure! When we last left our heroes, Hawks—our resident spy—appeared before Endeavor and tried to convey a message he didn’t quite understand. Luckily, Hawks realized our fiery number one hero might need a bit more than hidden words and left a secret message within the book. After a few more choice words—Hawks made it really explicit that Endeavor should focus on the highlighted words and the secondary ones for them—Hawks left the group and went back to his team. Chapter 245 continues from here with our group arriving at Endeavor’s agency with over 30 sidekicks—that seems as excessive as Endeavor usually is—and we see Endeavor chew over the hidden message. Luckily, our new number one hero isn’t too much of a muscle head and understood Hawks was acting differently and deciphered the message he left in the book. We now know the Metal Liberation Army—more so the Meta Liberation Front—is 100,000 members strong and plans to act in 4 months with Tomura in charge! Hawks has given his message and now our heroes have it, but was it too late? Can Endeavor act on this information fast enough or will Tomura have his destruction!? Only the next chapters will tell us but for now, let’s discuss the greatness that was Boku no Hero Academia chapter 245!

Why You Should Read Boku no Hero Academia (My Hero Academia) Chapter 245
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="viz" url="https://www.viz.com/read/novel/my-hero-academia-school-briefs-volume-2/product/5958/paperback" ]

1. Message Learned!

Endeavor, for a minute, worried us. When Hawks arrived last chapter and stared down our number one hero, he just looked at him with his usual grumpy face. Thankfully, Endeavor understood the “semi-obvious” words Hawks put out there and we now have his hidden message unveiled. Those words, however, spell a dark future for our heroes and a threat bigger than they are probably used to. Speaking of that threat…

2. 100,000 Members and 4 Months!?!?

When we read that hidden message in chapter 245 of Boku no Hero Academia our eyes went wide with surprise. We knew that the front had a huge power due to their influence but we didn’t expect a number that large! Nor did we think there would only be 4 months till they acted! Our biggest concern now is what will happen in 4 months exactly? Will they unleash a powerful force nationwide or will their numbers allow for something quite worse…possibly a destructive war? So many questions and time is not on our side with figuring out what they have in store for our heroes!

Final Thoughts

Boku no Hero Academia chapter 245 wasn’t filled with action nor intense drama. Even so, the power of Hawks’ message was enough to send some shockwaves into our hearts. Time is now a big factor is a possible war against evil and this evil force has numbers that far surpass our heroes. Can Endeavor rally the other pro heroes and get Hawks messaged delivered in time or will the enemy have an advantage going forward? We can’t wait to find these answers in future Boku no Hero Academia chapters but what do you guys think? Comment below with your ideas so you can talk to other fans of the series and discuss the future of Boku no Hero Academia. [Anime Culture Monday] A Brief History of Halloween in Japan

$
0
0
[ad_top1 class="mb40"]
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="GNXA-1838" text="" url="" ]

With a rather convoluted history, Halloween’s origins can be traced all the way back to various Celtic festivals, especially the Gaelic festival Samhain, which was then incorporated into Western Christian tradition with All Saints' Day and later developed further to become the recognizable holiday in North America starting around the 1930s and spread to many other places worldwide since. But what about Japan? Like many other holidays originating outside the country, Halloween in Japan has its own peculiarities that make it unique. In this piece, we’ll be covering Halloween’s introduction to Japan and how the popular holiday is celebrated in the land of the rising sun. Don’t get too spooked, let’s start!

Theme Park Foundation

While there likely had been smaller cultural exchanges beforehand, Halloween wasn’t first properly introduced into Japanese pop culture until 2000 with an event in Tokyo Disneyland. This was soon followed by similar celebrations at other popular theme parks like Sanrio Puroland and Universal Studios Japan and has since become very well-known across the country. These parks, and others, still hold big Halloween events every year but the holiday is no longer strictly centered around them.

What About Obon?

Folks familiar with Japanese culture might know about Obon, a Japanese Buddhist-Confucian holiday revolving around the return of ancestral spirits to their homes for their annual visit to celebrate and reunite with their living family members. While for some people Obon is also a time to tell ghost stories, light lanterns, and visit haunted locations, which would seem like a natural connection to Halloween, these similarities are only superficial and the holidays are in fact not related or celebrated at the same time (Obon is usually in July or August, depending on the region).

Halloween is for Cosplay!

Obviously, Japan is no stranger to costumes with its well-developed cosplay culture so it’s not surprising that the focus of Halloween in Japan is definitely getting into character with festive outfits. This is where some differences arise. Halloween in Japan is more focused on adults and trick-or-treating, for the most part, just doesn’t happen. Instead, Halloween in Japan mostly involves teens and adults dressing up and going out into the streets for huge public parties, drinking and eating with their friends, and generally “letting loose” in a way that taps into the mischievous aspect of the holiday. Candy and other sweets are still present, of course, as is jack-o'-lantern carving but with the twist of most of the pumpkins being purple instead of orange due to the species usually grown in Japan. In recent years, street costume events have become extraordinary big, especially in large cities like Tokyo and Osaka.

Trash, Gangsters, and Backlash Against the Holiday

Unfortunately, Halloween has also generated quite a bit of controversy, particularly in how these street events have created large amounts of trash from candy wrappers, drink containers, fake blood spillage, and even discarded costumes, which has become a major headache for locals accustomed to Japan’s usual cleanliness. Thankfully, many people have started voluntary cleanup groups to help with the problem. One stranger phenomenon involves Japanese organized crime syndicates, known as the yakuza. One of the largest yakuza organizations, the Yamaguchi-gumi, has reportedly been regularly giving out generous bags of candy out at their headquarters on Halloween to any children who wanted them. While arguably a publicity stunt, the yakuza have had a long history of doing charitable work including providing assistance to victims of the 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake when it hit Kobe.

Final Thoughts

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="NEODAI-27445" text="" url="" ]

Despite the backlash against commercialization, trash generated, the sometimes rowdy behavior associated with the holiday, and more, Halloween seems to only grow in popularity every year and is likely to remain part of modern Japanese pop culture for years to come. It’s definitely exciting to see so many people applying their cosplay skills in creating elaborate spooky outfits and hanging out together so we hope that the modern tradition can continue with less trash and more fun in the future. As always, we hope you enjoyed this article! Would you want to be in Japan for Halloween? Let us know your own thoughts in the comments section below and be sure to stick around Honey’s for more of all things awesome, anime and otherwise! Stay spooky!

Isekai is one of the genres that we see many of every season but only a few make it to the top as well done and non-formulaic Isekai. Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufukuwo is an anime that quickly climbed to the top of our lists because of its entertaining plot and relatable characters. When NEET Kazuma Satou dies, he makes his way to meet the goddess Aqua who announces that he can either return to another world of his dreams or continue on to heaven. In denial, he returns to a world that is relatable to a video game but it is nothing like he expects. He must learn to deal with real life challenges and make his way around his seemingly incompetent colleagues. This anime is joined by many others from the summer 2019 season. The anime listed below will quickly fill the void that the ending of Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufukuwo has certainly left in your hearts.

1. The Harem Aspect

Each anime is classified as a harem anime. Each protagonist is surrounded by beautiful albeit annoying women that make Nagumo and Satou understand the true meaning of sacrifice and friendship. Each harem also helps to lighten the plot of an otherwise very serious anime. Anyone who enjoyed the chaos that Aqua and Megumin brought to the plot of Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufukuwo will enjoy the harem aspect of Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou.

2. An Overpowered Hero

While each hero has their own drawbacks initially, they must grow to be the best that they can be. Each protagonist has something that is working against them initially that they eventually turn into a strength. This allows for both anime to be great inspiration for your own life to make the best out of any situation.

When childhood friends Rin Azuma and Taichi Nishimura are magically transported to another world, they know that their lives will be changed forever. Vulnerable to monster attacks, they make their way with a group of adventurers to the nearest Guild. The duo must learn to increase their power to make themselves the ultimate cheat magicians in order to get back to their own world.

Major Similarities Between Kono Subarashii ni Shukufukuwo (KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World!) and Isekai Cheat Magician

1. The Comradery

While Azuma and Nishimura knew each other long before they transferred to this new world, they have the same comradery with each other that Satou has with other members of his party. The growth by Satou in this department is admirable and he must overcome much more than the two friends do. The reliance on each other is heart-warming to see and they are they similarly for each other through thick and thin.

2. The Guilds

Both anime have a similarity for the way the world they are transported to is set up. They must follow the rules and overall rankings of the guild that they belong to. The guild is somewhat the center of the world for the protagonists in both anime and ultimately a place where they can eventually return to and get advice. While this is rather formulaic, it provides a rational plot device to learn more about their new world.

Finding a replacement for Kono Subarashii ni Shukufukuwo is no easy task. It is consistently ranked as one of the best Isekai to have ever come out and this makes it difficult to compare it to other Isekai. Through the drudge of the mass produced anime shine through a few gems that are presented here. While they may not be as eagerly anticipated, both Isekai Cheat Magician and Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou provide content to fill the emptiness that the ending of KonoSubarashii ni Shukufukuwo has left. We hope that you have enjoyed reading about our Isekai picks. As always, if you have any questions or comments please feel free to leave them in the comments section below.

Who didn't predict Lucifer's revival being anything but explosive?! That's right readers, chapter 115 of Ao no Exorcist has Lucifer arising once more and it doesn't exactly go smoothly. Blind and filled with anger/sadness not being able to see Yuri, our ultimate demon quickly lashes out. To make matters worse, Lucifer seems to be hit by the thoughts that Yuri betrayed him and engulfs the world—yes the entire world—in random blue flame attacks! Various factions such as the exorcists and monks try to ready for this worldwide pandemic, but it becomes quite apparent Lucifer is way too strong for them and many begin to struggle to even escape their various facilities. Our chapter wraps up with Yuri giving birth, but a problem arises…her child isn't crying. What does this mean for the birth of Lucifer's child and can good somehow outdo the rebirth of the most powerful evil in the world?! Yet again we must wait a month, but that gives us time to talk about what was so amazing about chapter 115 of Ao no Exorcist!

1. Evil Returns

Ao no Exorcist has mentioned multiple times before Run and Yukio's dad Lucifer, but we've rarely seen him. Now we've gotten to witness the fallen angel—in a broken form, mind you—and we were left stunned at how powerful this dude is! If Rin and the others don't hurry and do something the world might face oblivion and thus grant the Illuminati the world they wanted.

2. Birth of a Child?

Yuri clearly gives birth to two children as we know, but in the final panels for chapter 115, we see one of her children being born silent. If you aren't someone who knows the concepts of birth, a child being born silent usually indicates stillbirth. If Yuki did indeed have a stillbirth then how did her sons come to life and was there a third child possibly? A lot of theories are flooding our minds, but we will have to wait for our answers next month/chapter.

Final Thoughts

Ao no Exorcist 115 was indeed a huge chapter! The ultimate fallen angel has come back to the land of the living and his return is being felt worldwide! Our heroes don't have a lot of time it seems to negate his damage and that could spell doom for humanity! Meanwhile, the chapter ends on a mysterious stillbirth which makes us question everything about Rin and Yukio's birth! What answers await us in the next chapter of Ao no Exorcist!? Find out with us when we review chapter 116 next month. Be sure to keep stuck to our hive though here at Honey's Anime so you don't miss a single chapter review!
