Throughout the world, the agricultural revolution is widespread. Now was the paradigm shifts from the early modern times to the modern era, all of a sudden, monsters that cannot be killed started to appear. Their hearts were covered with a layer of iron and only piercing that, could they be killed. Not only that, but if bit by one, the afflicted would die and become one of them! Afterwards, they became to be known as the “kabane.” Now they roam the Earth. On an island to the far east named Hinomoto, the people have built fortresses that they call “stations” and they have survived doing so. “Hayajiro” are special high speed, steam engine trains that travel between these stations transporting goods, people, and animals. This is the level that humanity has been reduced to. Ikoma is a boy living in Aragane Station working as a steam engine blacksmith. He specifically works with Iron Manufacturing and Steam Engines. In order to defeat the kabane, he and his friend Takumi have made an original weapon that they call the “Tsuranuki Gun Blaster.” Everyone makes light of what he has created, but he is wishing and praying that the day he can prove them all wrong will soon arrive. He gets his wish. One day, a train named Koutetsujou, one of Hayajiro, pulls into Aragane station. Ikoma begins dash through the cars to being to clean them for maintenance. He witnesses a mysterious girl who is exempt from being inspected for kabane. That night, Ikoma happens to run into the girl again, and she introduces herself as Mumei. As they are talking, a Hayajiro driving recklessly crashes into Aragane station! All of the crew members have disappeared… or rather, they have all turned into Kabane! Aragane station is now overflowing with Kabane. Moving against the wave of people seized with panic, Ikoma runs. This time he will not run away. “I, I will defeat the kabane with this Tsuranuki Gun Blaster!” In order to become a great man, he begins to fight against the Kabane.
