About Danganronpa
Makoto Naegi was just your average student that happened to be selected to join an elite high school named Hope’s Peak Academy. However, upon arrival, Makoto immediately loses consciousness and wakes up to find himself locked inside the school with 14 other students and a deranged teddy bear who wishes to play a dangerous game with them. According to this teddy bear (who calls himself Monokuma), there is only one way to escape, or “graduate”: murder another student and successfully get away with it without getting caught. Each time a murder happens, a “class trial” will be held to uncover the murderer, with a successful verdict resulting in the murderer’s execution and an incorrect verdict resulting in the death of everyone except the culprit, who will be free to leave.
If you’re a fan of The Hunger Games and Battle Royale, then this anime should be right up your alley. The concept of fighting to the death and becoming the only survivor of a certain ordeal is something that would take a toll on anybody; the effects this would have on high school kids are almost guaranteed to be permanent. We see a change over the series occur to Makoto as he struggles to cling to some sense of sanity after being thrust into a situation where there are no brakes to stop it, and the only thing left to do is to play the game. We also get to see the various effects the game has on the other characters, and the variety of choices and conclusions they come to in order to survive. One thing is guaranteed: whoever leaves Hope’s Peak Academy leaves it a very different person from when they first arrived.

Junko Enoshima Profile
Enoshima Junko is the true mastermind behind the evils of Hope’s Peak but some viewers tend to believe that all can be forgiven, even her conniving, murderous impulses and unpredictable personality. And who can blame them, Enoshima Junko is serious eye candy. Junko’s so good looking that when she was killed off for being caught for murder, the story was spun in such a way that she’d still be alive! Okay, no, in actuality, she has a twin sister, but that’s not what matters right now.
Junko has an hourglass figure, done justice by her sense of fashion. She is normally seen wearing a black cardigan over a white shirt, an undone necktie which brings attention to her cleavage, a red bow tie on the left side of her chest, a short red skirt and mid-sized boots. Her hair is strawberry blonde and done up into two ponytails and she wears quite a bit of makeup, baby blue eyeshadow being the most notable.
Celestia Ludenberg Profile
Celestia Ludenberg, or “Celeste”, is one of the students selected to participate in Monokuma’s deranged competition of being the last student to survive in his school by his rules. Celeste is very ambitious, doing whatever is necessary to win any competition she’s in, and also very prideful, refusing to accept defeat until the very end. Celeste’s skills in gambling are unmatched, and is often known as the “Queen of Liars.”
Celeste is very much the go to example for the average gothic anime girl dressed in the Lolita fashion. It’s not just the fact that her dress black and white; it’s the extra details that help complete the ensemble that make it. The ribbons, knee-high stockings, lace on the dress, and unique hairstyle all come together to give off the classic Lolita look that has come to be associated with the gothic style. Although the hair would be very difficult to pull off, the rest of the outfit is something that can be recreated, which makes Celeste very influential in terms of what is thought of whenever girls are dressed in the gothic style.
Kyouko Kirigiri Profile
Known as the High School Sleuth, Kirigiri possesses an astute nature as well as the traits of a good detective. Quite mysterious from the start, she is often the one revealing the culprits and presenting decisive evidence against them.
Kirigiri remains unfazed at the sight of a dead body and can even go as far as to conduct an autopsy on them. However, deep down, she can get emotionally upset but she hides it behind her stoic nature. She is known to find the goodness in people as well which reflects her caring and understanding personality. However, in order not to compromise everyone, she puts on her stoic mask to find the true perpetrator of the crime, which also allowed her to work with a clear mind.
Monokuma Profile
Monokuma is the main antagonist of the series. A strange, remote-controlled teddy bear who proclaims himself to be the principal of Hope's Peak Academy and initiates a life of mutual killing amongst the students. He has various copies of himself throughout the Academy and will punish, ie. kill, anyone that attempts to attack him or otherwise break the academy's rules. Much like his name, he has a monochrome appearance, with one half looking like a cute white bear and the other half looking like a sadistic black bear. Just who the mastermind controlling him is, along with his motives for bringing the students together, serve as some of the game's main mysteries.
