In Fantasista Doll, there aren’t many characters in the series so the audience won’t get confused with the names to most of the characters. Each master has a collection of cards containing 5 dolls. It would be boring to own the dolls and not do anything with them, so Uzume fights with the other masters in tournaments. This is what makes the series an interesting one to watch!

High school students, Takeshi and Michi, stay in school for a study session. Takeshi picks up a card and Michi tells him that the card is actually from a game named Weiß Schwarz, of which she’s won several tournaments. Somehow, both of them end up being sucked into a mysterious portal that brings them to another dimension called Weiss Schwarz Battle Space. In the strange new dimension, an old man tells Takeshi that he is the chosen one to win card battles in Weiß Schwarz, which only then, can the two of them return home safely. Each episode is only about 2 minutes long, so this series may be suitable for all you folks who like card anime but don’t have the patience for a long series! Karuta is not an easy card game to play as it is physically and mentally challenging. The game draws inspiration from a Japanese poetry called Hundred Poets. In the game, when a reader reads out the first line of a poem, the player would then have to touch the card which has the corresponding second line of the poem. The gameplay may not seem very interesting but you will definitely be surprised by how the combination of a card game and poetry turn out to be!

Like many other boys, Yuugi is into gaming of any kind. One day, he solves an ancient puzzle called Millennium Puzzle and consequently is granted with the power of darkness. When he is faced with danger and evil people, he will turn into a darker persona and challenges those people to dangerous Shadow Games. The losers of the game will then be subjected to punishments. The Yu-Gi-Oh! series is the most well-known card anime. It has a pretty dark plot as it revolves around challenging people to dangerous games and then punishing them. Hence, it may not be very kids-appropriate. If you are still interested in letting your kids watch Yu-Gi-Oh!, you may let them watch Yu-Gi-Oh! We’re going to start off the list with one of the cooler looking characters in this anime. Moduce is one of the two apprentices from the legendary knight Sparda. Despite being twin brothers, Moduce has a much softer looking face than Barl. That coincides with his personality which is calm and honorable. Moduce is a demon who was entrusted with the will of Sparda before his passing. One of the things that make Moduce an impressive character is his unearthly skill and generally calm demeanor. He possesses lightning quick speed and superb strength, but at the same time isn’t known to exhibit it unless he needs to. Oh, and we mustn’t forget about his telekinetic ability. That makes him impressive in our book.

Continuing on with our list of impressive characters, we bring you a benevolent demon named Brad. Like a fair portion of the characters on this list, he appears in only one episode. In episode three he meets up with a human girl by the name of Angelina and she quickly falls in love with him after he assists her with her injured ankle. Brad is not known to be a particularly strong demon; in fact, he would consider himself weak. What makes him intriguing is that he has the gift of healing. Brad was summoned to the human world in order to help Angelina’s butler in order to summon his master, Belphagor. After using his healing powers around Angelina, her father saw it and assumed that he was an evil killing machine. Her father hired Dante to kill Brad but Dante refused after seeing his love for Angelina. The most telling thing about Brad is his good nature towards everyone, even to Angelina’s father despite his initial resentment towards Brad. He went as far as reviving her father even after the way he treated Brad. When it was all said and done Brad was viewed as impressive by Angelina’s father and we couldn’t agree more.

Moving forward to our number eight selection, we have our first female on the list. Episode six introduced Elena Huston who was a musician for a rock band who rose to fame upon the release of their debut album. The road to the band's initial release wasn’t an easy one, however. Elena worked as a dancer, something she wasn’t too keen on, in order to help fund her band's album. She didn’t think it was going to get anywhere anytime soon until she ended up making a deal with a demon and inheriting a spellbinding voice. In return, the demon, or banshee if you will, was able to possess her body. Elena is a blonde-haired woman with green eyes and vibrant red lips. Her devotion to her fans and her dreams was what truly made her an impressive character.

The aforementioned older twin brother of Moduce, Barl made his anime debut in the same episode as his brother, episode ten. Much like his younger brother, Barl is a supremely skilled swordsman and a demon that was mentored by Dante’s father Sparda. The difference in his personality and appearance is what makes him stand out from his brother. Barl is almost the exact opposite in many ways. That includes being dressed in all white gear and having short spiked white hair. In addition to his polar opposite appearance to his brother, he also comes off much differently with his personality. Barl is brash and headstrong. He wants to possess the strength of his former mentor, so in order to do that he comes to the human world to kill Dante and get the blood of Sparda. Barl uses dual-wielding swords and was known for being able to take out other demons in a matter of seconds. His brute strength and cunning speed were a force to be reckoned with. We chose Barl higher on the list because of his tenacity and the huge chip on his shoulder. He wasn’t afraid to stoke the flames and go after his goals, regardless of how tainted they may have been.

Moving onto number six on the countdown and we have to give props to the various demons in this anime. The ones we want to highlight are the dog demons that appear at the beginning of episode four. Most of the fiends in this series were allotted one episode each and some of them took advantage of their screen time, albeit the little bit they had. Right away we’re introduced to them and you knew what their goal was and that’s what made them even more chilling. They were no talk, all action. What really makes them interesting is their distinguishable appearance. They seemed to be a mix of a canine and a goblin. In effect, it made them look like a hulking and menacing gremlin of sorts. They swiftly stalked their prey on two elongated legs with a large mouth filled with razor sharp teeth, which could devour a human in seconds. The fiends stood tall with their long pointy ears and they fought vigorously against Trish and Lady. Without question, we felt they had one of the most hauntingly fantastic looks in the entire series.

Reaching the midway point of the list and we had to add the young Patty Lowell to this list. Now some people wouldn’t think Patty to be an impressive character in a dark anime ruled by demons and demon hunters. With that being said, that’s one of the reasons why we think she fits so well on this list. She brings that spark of light to an otherwise gloomy show. Patty has long blonde hair and blue eyes. Her fashion sense seems to be inspired from the Victorian era, with ruffled dresses and old-fashioned hats and hairstyles. Patty is very smart for her age and can sometimes display great attitude towards Dante. She brings a feminine influence to Dante and his Devil May Cry establishment. She even had the gall to redecorate his office with flowers, stuffed animals, and pink curtains. She has a sort of brother-sister relationship with Dante and is often seen taking care of his business whether it’s cleaning up or buying groceries. One of our favorite scenes with her is when she buys all these expensive clothes for herself and she brings back the bill for Dante, who is already so far in debt. Ultimately, we feel Patty is the glue of this anime.

Trish makes her anime debut in episode four when she appears to assist Lady in fighting some demon dogs. Lady took on a mission to kill an electric demon, who just happened to be Trish. When they finally had their showdown between both lovely ladies, they went back and forth; it was eventually interrupted by Dante who officially introduced Trish to Lady. From then on, the two worked together on some cases. Trish is known for her electric attacks and powerful techniques but she still inherits the shopping bug, most notably clothes. In episode four she purchases clothes at Dante’s expense. Trish is a freelance demon hunter who left the Devil May Cry establishment to work on her own. Dante seemed to have missed Trish’s presence, despite their minimal air time together. Trish plays a lesser role in the anime than in the video game series but she is still an exceptional fighter. She takes on many demons with ease and even goes toe-to-toe with Lady. She is proficient in hand-to-hand combat and is able to effortlessly use the power of electricity to her advantage. She comes off as very independent but has shown she is capable of lending a helping hand when required.

Our number three pick is a lesser demon who becomes a recurring character in a series that doesn’t have too many of those. Sid makes his debut in the first episode of the anime and continues to appear from time to time. He never once looked like a valid threat to Dante, often being spared by him. Although he isn’t too threatening at first, he does have a menacing aura to him. He’s always creeping in the shadows and often taking advantage of humans for his own agenda. Sid’s had several abilities including being able to condense his body and change his vocal pattern in order to disguise himself and has an uncanny knack for stealth. His biggest attribute is his ability to manipulate people. He is a conniving individual, who sought after a greater power. Eventually, his dark plan comes to fruition and he breaks the seal that contained the powerful Abigail for many years. He then inherited the power to summon thousands of demons at will, shoot demonic beams from his mouth and regenerate from his own blood. Abigail was a true threat to Dante and with that we feel Sid is one of the most impressive characters in this show.

We’re getting ever-closer to the completion of this list. Lady is one impressive character and it all starts with her looks. She’s got short black hair and has the genetic condition heterochromia which gives each eye a different color. Her left eye is red and her right is a bluish-green. She has scars all over her body, showcasing some of her tougher battles and proving to be a strong woman. Lady appears to have a small crush on Dante as she becomes a bit jealous when finding out that Trish and Dante were partners. Lady continues to impress us with not only her looks but her personality, which is fierce and rugged. She is a firearms expert and extremely agile for a human. Her signature weapon is a Kalina Ann, a customized rocket launcher. When she needs help on a mission she will drop by the Devil May Cry office to seek help from Dante, who seems to always be in debt to her. In the anime, she mostly wore her outfit from the Devil May Cry 3 video game. Although slender, she does have a large bust and a certain sex appeal to her. Make no mistake, Lady is not one to mess around with.

Now that we have made it to our number one selection, it shouldn’t shock too many people that we picked Dante to be our most impressive character from the Devil May Cry anime. After all, he is the main protagonist and everything he seems to do is cool. Dante’s portrayal in the anime is shown as being hospitable, foul-mouthed and generous. All he ever seems to eat is pizza, strawberry sundaes, and drinks beer. He is dedicated to his job and usually goes above and beyond to complete his missions. He often helps Lady when she needs assistance. Throughout the series, Dante is shown as an overpowered character that decimates pretty much every demon in his path with very little resistance. Dante is a demon/human hybrid who works as a paranormal mercenary, private investigator, and vigilante demon hunter. He’s dedicated to exterminating evil demons or any malevolent supernatural forces. He runs the Devil May Cry business and takes on many clients but always complains about being in debt. His appearance strikes most people as being one who carries himself seriously and that is exactly how he handles his missions. He wears a lot of black and red, most notable a long red coat with black gloves, boots and a black shirt. He carries with him two pistols named Ebony and Ivory. In addition to that, he also wields a powerful sword handed down from his father Sparda. It’s easy to see why he is number one on our list.

Angel Beats opens with our protagonist Yuzuru Otonashi opening his eyes. He’s just died and kinda gone to heaven? Not really…. He’s in some sort of middle ground where he is confronted by a girl boasting a rifle? What the heck is exactly going on? She introduces herself as Yuri and explains that the SSS is currently at war within this high school with Heaven or rather what humans consider to be heaven. Yuzuru ends up joining Yuri and going to battle with the SSS as he confronts things like humanity and what death really means to humans. This is the final battle so to speak. First off the bat, we have to point out that Jun Maeda was the creator for both of these series. Also, both Charlotte and Angel Beats present themselves as something they are not. Both seem like normal everyday school adventures that the characters are going to live comfortably, but that just is not going to happen! P.A. Works also produced both of these anime. So styles of drawing as well as the way the story is spun to you are very similar. The humor is also about the same. Both Yuzuru and Yuu are transfer students that suddenly find themselves in a progressively darker and darker situation. What it means to be human will be questioned sharply in these series as well as themes like death, resurrection, and the core concept of “with great power comes great responsibility.”

Skip precisely 23 years into the future. A country is now ruled by an organization, called GHQ, that is merciless. They squash any sort of issue before it ever happens and they moved in, taking over in an event called “Lost Christmas”. Struggling against them is the Funeral Parlor, a guerilla-esque ground fighting against the cold military regime. One day, Shuu Ouma accidentally comes into contact with Inori Yuzuriha, a critical member of Funeral Parlor, and now suddenly has the power to draw out powerful weapons that are representations of their spirits and powers. Once a high school student, and now a rebel fighter, Shuu has to accept that what has happened in the past, the GHQ and even Funeral Parlor is not what he thinks it is. Right off the bat, you have a main character from both shows that suddenly has a “power”. True, Yuu has one, but he thought he was the only one and now he and Shuu both must come to terms with the fact that others like them exist. Thrillers to the core, both of these also take place in high schools so it gives a supernatural high school effect to both show. Also, you have the themes of sharply questioning what exactly is truth, and what is hidden. Finally, what both of these main characters WANT to know is another issue that they face.

Madoka and Sayaka are middle school students and friends. One day though, that changes when a cute cat-like creature named Kyuubey, asks them if they want to become magical girls. It even sweetens the deal and says that they will get one wish granted because it’s a magical creature who can do such. Giving in to impulse, they sign up. They even get to meet another magical girl, rather quickly, named Mami. Mami tries to talk them out of it, but it’s too late and they go with her on a mission. They have to fight a witch? It doesn’t look like a witch and then suddenly, things get very dark fast. Madoka Magica will drive you crazy and keep you on the edge of your seat. Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica also, much like Charlotte, starts out cute and engaging and then suddenly takes some sharp turns into places that you don’t ever want to go but are forced to anyway. Death, Time Travel, and Magic are only a few of the core themes that are accepted. Madoka and Yuu quickly learn that what they signed up for was not what they were sold on and there is no turning back. Push comes to shove and ten dark turns later, you have two fantastic shows that are not as they appear. Humanity and the choices that you make can lead to difficult situations, is another massive theme between Charlotte and Madoka Magica.

Steins;Gate opens with the quirky, self-proclaimed mad scientist Rintarou Okabe and his team Mayuri and Itaru, while they create the greatest thing known to man! They are currently transforming bananas in a microwave to green goop. Well…. It’s a start. Suddenly one day, there is a breakthrough and they realize that they are able to send emails via the “Phone Microwave” to the past. Suddenly, Rintarou holds the key to time. He can go back and prevent countless deaths, including that of a girl close to him. Is he now God? Let’s start with time travel. It does not happen right from the start with Charlotte, but it builds itself up for some critical moments in the series. Steins;Gate is centered around those critical moments of time travel. Both Yuu and Rintarou want to save those close to them and have to figure out the best way to do so. Both start out as a seemingly simple and light anime, but get very dark, very fast. Yet again, you have two main characters with an unfathomable power fall into their laps and suddenly they must question, “What does it mean to be human and what is death?W

The Holy Empire of Britannia is calling the shots and now rules Japan in this dystopian future. Stripped of its name, Japan is now Area 11, and a disavowed prince, Lelouch, resides here. Furious about what has happened to him in the past, he vows revenge in his heart. One day, a mysterious girl named C.C. appears to him and gives him the power of “Geass”. This newfound power allows Lelouch to place anyone who makes eye contact with him under his complete power. Thirsty for revenge, Lelouch sets out on a path of ruin behind the masked moniker of “Zero” to restore himself and serve his sense of justice. Yuu and Lelouch are both facing a massive problem that they must overcome in these stories. Interestingly enough, both powers come from their eyes and eye contact. These powers are always used to subjugate others against their will while Yuu or Lelouch get to play God. Suddenly the both find themselves in power and using it for their own desires. Humanity as well is questioned in Code Geass much like how it is in Charlotte.

Satoru Fujinuma is a loser. He can barely hold down a part time job, his manga is not taking off, and he is getting nowhere in life. He has this quirk that he calls “revival”, that allows him to go back in time a few minutes to before some sort of accident or tragedy occurs. When he is accused by the police of murdering the only person he is close to in his life, something fires off and he is sent back, not to before the murder but to 1988, where a classmate in Hokkaido was murdered. Satoru now has to piece together the facts and find out exactly what happened to the girl Kayo Hinazuki, but also the circumstances around her disappearance. All while being trapped in a 12 year old’s body. Don’t be fooled by the cute premise of Boku Dake ga Inai Machi and Charlotte; they will start out cute and then turn into anxiety fuel as you go further and further along. Time travel is yet again shared by these two shows while both main characters desperately try to save a girl that they were close to. Both characters go through, at some point in their lives, a horrible tragedy and through the power of time, try to undo that horror. Playing God yet again with time, their lives, and others lives, humanity and life are scoffed at by the creators. Why you ask? Because you simply need to go back in time to right the wrong that happened.

Back on Earth, Keiji Onizuka was a world class boxer. He was the champion and everything seemed to be perfect in his life. Even his manager suggested that if he had a sick mom it would add more drama to his story. Well, he did. Every week he would take the last ferry to the island where she lived and spent the weekend caring for her. One day, he noticed his retina had started detaching, which meant he had to stop boxing. He had to give up doing the only thing he knew how to do, fight. Keiji decided to stay on the island and get a regular job as a delivery boy even after his mother passed away from her illness. There was no other meaning to his life anymore. When U-NASA sends him an invitation, he refuses at first, but the words of his late mother ring in his mind telling him to move on and find a life. When he finally agrees to go for the MO surgery, he requests one with the best eyesight. Why? Because he wanted to be able to see the island his mother lived in from anywhere. He just wanted to make his mom proud and show her he had friends and found a new reason to live. While not the saddest of them, Keiji's story is a good warm-up for what's coming up on the list.

The main protagonist of the show must, of course, have a backstory that tugs at your heartstrings. Akari grew up in an orphanage and his best friend Yukari is plagued with the AE virus that has spread on Earth and an organ transplant is supposed to be the only cure. But that's expensive, so what does a big, strong twenty-something man with special strengths do? Well participating in cage fights for the filthy rich, of course! Yukari is losing hope and lashes out at him constantly, but he's found a donor in a foreign country! Except it wasn't true. After barely surviving a match against a grisly bear, he's told Yuriko died and there was never a donor. She was all he had in his life, and truly loved her, except he never actually said it to her face. Now he has a motivation to help cure those with the same disease by getting the Mosaic Organ Operation and going to Mars.

Now the leader of the Japanese and American squad, Shokichi has a painful past. When he was 15 years old he saw his best friend, Nanao Akita, being abused by her stepfather, as he often did. Enraged, he attacked and killed him to save Nanao. When they were both 22, Shokichi underwent the surgery to follow Nanao on the BUGS 2 mission, after which they wanted to live a peaceful life together. On their arrival, the two encounter a cockroach and peaceful Nanao convinces Shokichi to talk to it instead of attacking. In the blink of an eye, the girl Shokichi loves and has dedicated his life to protecting has her neck snapped by the Martian and collapses. With her final breath, she asks him not to transform because she doesn't want to see him being violent like when he killed her stepfather. And he complies. After all of his efforts to keep her safe, his best friend and beloved was taken from him in a second. He later refers to his dead friend when recruiting Akari, as they both have lost someone thanks to these creatures. And during the Annex 1 mission, another girl who loved him dies in his arms. This poor guy can't catch a break!

Like so many others in the BUGS and Annex missions, Thien grew up as a poor child. He has stated that he is from the poorest background on the mission. He grew up in Thailand and had a best friend named Ploy. When they were 10 years old, Ploy got taken away to “work” in the city. When Thien realized that she had been sold into prostitution, he went looking for her in the city. After much searching and asking, he finally found out she had been disposed of because she had become “infected”. He spent the rest of his time before joining the BUGS 2 mission living on the city streets. When the entire team gets attacked and overpowered by the roaches, he overdoses on the drug to save Ichiro. The overdose causes his human form to literally fall apart as he transforms into a giant locust before dying. With his last breath, he tells Ichiro and Shokichi that he has grown to like them because of their will to live, which a cold insect-like man like him never had.

While growing up, Ichiro was the oldest of eleven kids and had a sick mother. Her only wish was for Ichiro to go to Tokyo University so that he could get a prestigious job. Ichiro was a hardworking student and all was going well until a teacher he trusted blackmailed him after a student he was having an affair with became pregnant, forcing Ichiro to take the blame for “forcing himself on her” and getting her pregnant. All he wanted was to make a good living to support his ill mom and siblings, but this betrayal would cost him everything and he'd never trust anyone again. This desperate need for money is what drove him to become part of the BUGS 2 crew and risk his life with the rest of them. However, Ichiro's sad story has a happy ending. He's one of the two survivors of that mission and he managed to become the 502nd Prime Minister of Japan!

Wolf Redfield was an IT guy at his American company. He worked day in and day out without rest and was always by himself. The day before his wedding, he also had a very important deadline to meet and he worked harder than ever to do it on time. In the wee hours of the day he was supposed to get married, the program he was working on bugged out, but left it as it was so he could make it to his wedding. He was still late and his bride was pissed. His boss found out about the bug and tore him a new one. The stress was such that he got sick and quit his job. His marriage immediately broke apart, he got divorced and was all alone. Thanks to his amazing technical abilities, he was recruited for the Annex 1 mission as a non-combatant like the rest of the “nerds” in their group, giving him not only a group of friends for the first time but also the possibility of a big paycheck if he makes it back to Earth.

Alexander Asimov grew up as an orphan. Once he was old enough he joined the army and then fell in love at first sight with Gina S. Asimov. Gina rejected him repeatedly, but he could see himself building a family with her so he didn't give up. He stalked her daily but Gina knew her father wouldn't approve. Her father being Sylvester Asimov, a.k.a. “the invincible war god”. Alex's first meeting with Sylvester started with a punch to the face and that was the case every time after that. Gina softened up and gave Alexander makeovers to try and make him look like someone her father would approve of, with little to no success. Finally, Alexander won Gina's heart with his dedication and Sylvester eventually gave Alexander a chance. The two got married and pretty soon, Gina was pregnant. Alexander couldn't believe he finally had the family he'd never had. For once, things were looking up. But it was too good to be true. Gina and their unborn son were hospitalized with the AE virus. The only solution was for Sylvester to betray his past allies to find a vaccine, which he'd gladly do for his daughter and Alexander, who he now considered his son. Of course, Alexander joins him and they both head to Mars to save Gina and the baby. During a battle against the Chinese traitors, Alexander loses an arm to a Terra Formar and then faces off with the Chinese team who overpower him, which leads him to overdose on the drug, transforming into a giant stag beetle. Alexander dies swearing he'll get the vaccine for his family. Of course, he died for nothing.

Sheila was raised in Mexico and was the daughter of a wealthy family. Marcos Garcia and Alex Stewart were two boys who worked for her family and lived in their care. She grew up with both of them and they became so close that she helped them stop getting into fights. They were as close as siblings. Until the workers rioted and her father committed suicide. They lost everything and became separated. Sheila and her mother fled towards America, where she eventually became a US citizen, though her mother didn't survive. Sheila even mentions that the 36% survival rate of the MO operation is a better chance of survival than staying in Grand Mexico. Once on the mission, Sheila falls in love with Shokichi. She learns Japanese during the 39 day-long trip to Mars from Akari so she can talk with and get closer to Shokichi and got him to teach her how to use the net gun. During a surprise attack from the Terra Formars, Sheila is able to immobilize one of them, but it shoots her in the chest. Shokichi picks her up as Marcos crushes its head. Sheila grabs on to Shokichi's collar and attempts to confess her feelings, however, it's impossible with a gaping hole in her chest. In the end, she dies staring into Shokichi's eyes trying to say “I love you”.

Hong is a young teenage girl in the Chinese team. She is a non-combatant and was only chosen to join the Annex 1 mission to Mars thanks to her affinity for the Bacteria MO operation. She has the powers of a lethal bacteria, making her a biological weapon that can kill anybody without a protective suit. This poor girl was basically taken from her poor family and sent to Mars at around the age of 15, on top of that, must expose herself in order to use her ability and release the deadly bacteria from her body. That in itself is already kind of a bummer, but there's more. She is a kind, innocent, peace-loving girl who's never wanted to harm a living being, especially a human. But being a part of Division 4, she is forced to kill her own kind at the orders of Liu Yiwu. She's just a scared little girl pulled into a war and used as a weapon who hates to see those around her die, not to mention being responsible for their deaths. To top this all off, like the rest of Division 4, she has no hope for a normal life once she returns to Earth, since spending any time in a room with her would be detrimental to any living being. And she's still just a kid!

Adolf and his parents joined the BUGS2 project in Germany when he was only 7. His parents didn't survive the surgery, so he alone became a lab rat for the MO operation. He was poked, prodded and sliced after he volunteered to save the other kids he was held with. His surgery was successful, but not without side effects. His base is the electric eel but his human body couldn't handle the electric current and was burned and destroyed through countless experiments, leaving him permanently scarred and disfigured. To counter this, he had grounding devices implanted, which meant not only more surgeries, but more excruciating experiments. While being allowed to attend school, all he wanted was a way to run away from the military and die. Until he fell in love with Rosa, who was kind to him and went out of her way to get close to him. She made him feel human again and they eventually got married and were happy. Until his wife cheated on him because she “felt lonely and was weak”. Of course, Adolf forgave her. Later they had a baby, but when they checked it to see if it had inherited Adolf's MO, they realized the baby wasn't his. His wife then left him. Once on Mars, constantly haunted by these painful memories, he once again only wished he could die. And after defeating a vast number of the Terra Formars singlehandedly, his subordinates come to his rescue as he had so many times been there for them. He was so worn down already, he could do nothing but watch them get destroyed by the monsters. This gave him back his will to live, at which point he overdosed on the drug just to save his men, who he saw being taken away by the enemy regardless. The Terra Formars that were left decided to finish him and Eva off by stoning them. Adolf protected Eva with his body and then finally died. Adolf's story is by far THE most tragic one we've seen so far in this show.

At the beginning of our list, we come across a beautiful purple-haired girl by the name of Rio Yakumo. She and her sister Miyu, get put into a sticky situation to say the least. Their grandfather heads a Yakuza group. He suddenly falls ill while another group brings a potential takeover to him. In order for Yakumo family to thrive, they will need to make a deal with a rival group for their support; however, it’s going to cost them a female or two. Rio being the older of the two sisters sneaks out at night and heads to the rival group's headquarters. She gets taken advantage of by the leader of the group and is made to play several sick games in order to satisfy the rest of them. Miyu notices that her sister is missing and goes out to look for her. It’s not long before they seize their ultimate prize, which is getting both girls at once. Rio tries to protect her younger sibling but it’s no use, they both succumb to the lust and desire of their rival group. The sisters get used and abused, but one of the redeeming moments comes at the end of the anime. Watch for yourself and see!

Yes, you read that right, Yamato. Although females are more commonly used as slaves than males in hentai, this is one example where the male is used for two female’s desires. The battle between angels and demons has reached a pinnacle of their feud and in order to finish this competition, they’re going to have to try and win Yamato’s heart, by any means necessary. An angel named Sera and a demon named Firika contend to see what race ultimately comes out on top. The episodes are basically split between Firika getting most of the action in the first episode and then Sera getting the lion's share in the second. The series starts off with the fiery Firika demanding that Yamato signs a suspicious looking contract. His refusal to do so led her to think outside the box. She quickly realized he’s going to be harder to tame than she imagined. Sera shows up and although she’s less demanding, she can’t seem to get him to decide, even after all the joy she’s handed out. Jealousy eventually breaks out between the girls and they take on the challenge in the same room. Yamato is being used as a pawn between two ancient races. We won’t spoil the ending, but my goodness, what a tough decision he has to make.

This next selection brings us a lot of NTR (netorare) from a couple of cute females. Reiko, the president of the school council and vice president, Shintaro are tasked with looking over preparations for the school festival. During the festival, they are asked to try an unknown drink. They oblige and not long after they start to feel the effects of the beverages. Reiko decides to take Shintaro to a classroom and use him for sexual release. What she doesn’t realize initially is that the person that is taking out their lust on her is not her boyfriend. From here you can kind of guess where this leads to. The unknown rapist takes full advantage of Reiko in the dark classroom and then proceeds to record the immoral act so she will have to do what he says. It’s then that another student council member, Misaki is introduced into the story as Shintaro is unaware of Reiko’s whereabouts. Needless to say, both girls end up becoming sex slaves to the initial rapist. The h-scenes take place in several different public areas. The humiliation of both females and Shintaro reaches an all-time high while in a classroom when both girls are made to strip down and have sex with the deviant. Shintaro is excused and made to keep watch outside in the hall.

For our number seven pick, we go with two females who try and keep troublemakers in line at their school but only realize that it’s more of a taxing job than they thought. Rina and Kumi take center stage in this group setting, but there is an impressive male character named Junzo, who proves to be a hotter commodity than the girls initially thought. He even saves Kumi from being abused in the men’s bathroom from a couple of her ex-boyfriend's acquaintances. After that act of heroism, Junzo receives a reward from Kumi in the men’s bathroom. Shortly after, Kumi finds herself in an abandoned warehouse where the majority of this anime takes place. A group of sexual predators all pounce on Kumi and she does her best to fight them off, but to no avail. She even has her escape thwarted and is punished further as a result. Rina receives a phone call from the attacker telling Rina to meet them at the warehouse. Naturally, when Rina arrives she is ordered to give them sexual favors. If she is able to do that they will let them leave, but as we know in hentai, that’s generally not the case. They turn both girls into sex slaves as Rina is forced to give out many blowjobs and do other sexual acts.

The premise of this hentai is that a couple of very attractive girls by the name of Ibuki Kurata and Akira Miyauchi are tricked into thinking that they’ve won a free trip to a summer resort. Sure enough, once they reach their destination things start to plummet in a hurry. In addition to the girls being deceived they now have to struggle with the fact that they’re helpless and locked up by a group of upper-class students. Their intention is to train them to become their personal sex slaves. The anime quickly establishes the central plot with a flashback on how they got locked up at the summer resort. From there the girls are treated like a piece of meat with the guys declaring who to initiate first. Akira is the first one selected due to her feisty nature. As well as that, she's probably one of the toughest girls, with very little capable of keeping her spirits down for long. With an arsenal made up entirely of impressive looking guns, Saya is an offensive fighter, to say the least, being at a huge advantage when she has a partner to back her up and keep her foes at range. When it comes down to it, Saya's tactic is basically "if one gun doesn't work, use a bigger gun", which has thus far proven to be pretty effective. Although she's proven herself seriously powerful through her weapons alone, Saya's reliance on others to help her fight is the one thing holding her back from being a powerful character in her own right.

Not only the beautiful and strong princess of Lieseltania, Julis-Alexia von Riessfeld is also Seidoukan Academy's flame wielding rank 5. Fiery and independent, Julis' lone wolf temperament starts to fade once she realises she has friends that she can rely on. In particular, her calm and calculating side reveals itself during the Phoenix Festa, where she and Ayato rely mostly on strategic thinking to overcome their opponents. Julis is also one of the girls with the clearest goal: to make enough money to help the people of her country. Although Julis is essentially the main heroine of the series and is technically very powerful with the Asterisk War universe, she comes off as one of the weaker members of the cast due to the sheer power of everyone else. Having no access to an Ogre Lux, nor sword skills as sharp as Kirin or Ayato, she relies on her fired based abilities as her main form of offense and defense. Julis's main strong point is her ability to create traps that can be activated strategically during a fight, which she uses to both confuse opponents and to catch them off guard for massive damage. Much like Saya, although very powerful by herself, Julis definitely works best as part of a team.

Top heavy cutie Kirin Toudou is the sword wielding, former number one at Seidoukan Academy, and most recently Phoenix Festa partners with Saya. Kirin is basically the most adorable member of Ayato's harem, with her original composed exterior hiding an easily flustered and nervous young girl. After having her number one rank stripped from her by Ayato, Kirin actually became freer than she'd ever been, and surprisingly enough stronger as well. Most of Kirin's strength comes simply from her incredible sword fighting prowess, making her insanely powerful in one on one scenarios. As you can imagine, it's this kind of talent that gets you to the number one position on the academy leaderboard, given that position is decided by duels. Kirin's one downfall is that since she's always fought alone, team fights are not her specialty. This is one of the things that makes her and Saya an interesting combo, with her focused on dual-type scenarios, and Saya relying on a strong partner to back her up.

The very well connected student council president of Seidoukan Academy, Claudia Enfield is one of the few characters in the series so far who has been present throughout, but who we still know very little about. Additionally, although we know she's in possession of a powerful, and frankly badass, twin blade Ogre Lux "Pan-Dora", we have yet to see Claudia spend much time using it. Despite what looks to be a grim life behind closed doors, Claudia always comes off as being cheery, and supportive during the rest of the group's difficult times. Being the only one of Ayato's gang apart from him to own an Ogre Lux, we can already assume Claudia is seriously strong, with her being ranked number two at the academy as well. From the times we've seen her use it, Pan-Dora appears to send Claudia into an almost altered state, with her eyes changing colour, and in the case where she attacked Ayato, losing control of herself. Without knowing more, it's hard to say just how strong Claudia is, but she must have something up her sleeve for her to be keeping her sword sheathed all this time.

One of the top duos at the Jie Long Seventh Institute, the Li twins are a pair that can leave a bad taste in anyone's mouth. Arrogant and sadistic beyond words, they enjoy torturing their weaker opponents, playing with them like a cat plays with its food. It's this arrogance that perhaps lead to their eventual defeat at the hands of Julis and Ayato during the Phoenix Festa. Though with such bad attitudes, we somehow doubt they've learned their lesson. The Li twins take a smoke and mirrors approach to their battles, relying on trickery and misdirection to confuse their opponents as well as lure them into traps. The real strong point of the twins is their ability to work together, which gives them a huge amount of power over other duos, who have a lot less experience fighting as a unit. To be fair to them, the two are very strong as individuals too, with Shenhua being skilled with illusions and capable of turning herself invisible, and Shenyun being able to create realistic clones of himself and using powerful elemental spells. Even so, the two definitely come as a pair and are significantly weaker when separated.

Irene is the Rewolf Black Institute's fiery and fanged entrant to the Phoenix Festival. Irene's introduction pins her as being quite literally a vampire, although it turns out this isn't quite the case. Yes, her taste for iron actually comes from her dangerous looking Ogre Lux "Gravisheath". In spite of her brash, rude attitude, though, Irene's heart is certainly in the right place, with her desire to look after her little sister Priscilla being her driving force. Obviously confident in her abilities, with Priscilla as her partner, Irene takes on their Phoenix Festa battles pretty much solo, strong enough to deal with two opponents at once with ease. Gravisheath's ability to control gravity is overwhelmingly strong against anything but Irene's most powerful opponents, putting weaker foes out of action with little difficulty. Besides that, her skill with the cruel looking scythe by itself isn't something to be taken lightly, with her harsh life clearly forcing her to learn how to fight her way out of any situation.

The most well-known idol in the world, Sylvia Lyyneheym is beautiful and graceful beyond belief, so it's hard to believe she's also a top level Genestella. Sweet and playful, Sylvia almost always keeps up her professional persona, apart from the brief time she spends with Ayato. Although being an idol is a big part of her life now, Sylvia remains as the number one strongest student at Queenvail Girls' Academy. Sylvia is there one character on this list who we have yet to see really fight, although as the top student at her academy, we can assume she's at least on a level similar to Kirin and Claudia. We do however get to see her incredible tracking ability, a feat which is much more impressive than it perhaps sounds, and demonstrates the huge strength and range of her singing based abilities. Offering what was really only a teaser of her character, Sylvia is a pretty and powerful girl we'd love to see more of.

An example of how quite frankly scary the puppets of Arlequint Academy can be, AR-D is their mechanical entry to the Phoenix Festa. Although teamed with his female counterpart RM-C, AR-D is the real beast of the battlefield, combining with parts of her to become unbelievably strong. Although quite arrogant due to how weak he finds most of his opponents, AR-D becomes humbler and more honorable as he realises that there are many who are still stronger than him, or who can at the very least put up a fight. AR-D starts off seeming almost overpowered, as he demonstrates that to weaker opponents he is virtually untouchable. His defensive barriers are stronger than any others we see in the series, seemingly able to stop any attack, with the only option being to out maneuver him. Even then, being made of metal it's pretty hard to so much as dent AR-D's body. Along with that, after combining with RM-C his hammer is able to decimate anything in its path. Really it seems like a miracle he didn't accidentally kill anyone.

Unreasonably lucky with the ladies, Ayato Amagiri is the harem lead of The Asterisk War, and currently the rank one student at Seidoukan Academy. His main objective was originally to find his missing sister Haruka, however, since then his friends have given him more reasons to fight and become stronger. Due to his unusually large prana reserves, numerous seals were placed on him by his sister to stop him hurting others, or himself. But now that he's older and needs to become stronger, Ayato has been gradually breaking the seals himself so that he can protect everyone. Although Ayato by no means has an easy time against most opponents, he is not only able to out think the majority of them but also overpower them by releasing his seals. Along with his unusually high default power level, he wields the Ogre Lux "Ser-Veresta" which perfectly complements his sword fighting style after a little tweaking. As the main protagonist with imaginable strong plot armor, Ayato will likely remain pretty much at the top of the power chart throughout the series, though that inevitability certainly makes him no less fun to watch.

Very recently introduced, Ophelia Landlufen is Julis' childhood friend, although she's changed a lot since those times. Orphelia became a Strega after being subject to human experimentation, leaving her the shell of a person that she appears as now, with powers she should never have had. Although very pretty, with a cool albino appearance, Orphelia usually holds a sad expression, or none at all, likely due to her unfortunate circumstances. The experimentation performed on Orphelia left her with an incredible amount of prana, even compared to Ayato, meaning her raw power alone is insane. She fights by manipulating miasma, allowing her to create hands that essentially win her battles for her. On top of that, anything she touches, herself or with her miasma, corrodes, making her unable to touch anything living lest she accidentally kills it. Orphelia is a ridiculously powerful and dangerous enemy for Ayato's group to take on, though given her tragic backstory hopefully there's a light at the end of the tunnel for the poor girl.
