“The box may be small, but the energy and contents are definitely HUGE!”
About OLDCODEX Live Blu-ray “FIXED ENGINE" 2017 in BUDOKAN
OLDCODEX is a Japanese rock band that has been around for about eight years now. The two main people in the band are the lead vocalist, Ta_2, and Yorke, a secondary vocalist who does live graffiti art on the stage to accompany the music. OLDCODEX has been featured doing the opening and ending songs for many anime over the years, including Free!, God Eater, and Kuroko no Basket, helping to give them an international reputation and fans across the world. The OLDCODEX Live Blu-ray “FIXED ENGINE" 2017 in BUDOKAN Blu-Ray features the final show from the FIXED ENGINE tour across Japan! The tour finale was massive with 26 songs played, and BUDOKAN is a gigantic venue completely full of fans! In addition to the entire concert, the Blu-Ray set also includes a second disc with behind the scenes footage from the rest of the tour!
[ad_top2 class="mt40"]
On the Outside

At first glance, the box for the OLDCODEX Live Blu-ray “FIXED ENGINE" 2017 in BUDOKAN seems quite small, especially for a limited edition Blu-Ray set. And indeed, it’s only about 20cm x 14cm big, only a little bigger than an average novel. However, the cover art is immediately captivating and suits the band’s image well. It’s full of vibrant colours balanced with solid black in a seemingly random design, with white stencilled lettering at random reading “FIXED ENGINE.” Considering a huge part of what make OLDCODEX unique and special is Yorke’s graffiti-style artwork that he does on stage along with the music, it’s a suiting design reminiscent of his style!

Flipping the box over, there is a track list of all 26 songs that will be featured on the Blu-Ray, as well as the information that the second disc contains bonus material. That text is quite small though because there is a really cool art piece taking up most of the box! Continuing the colour scheme and style from the front cover, the background is mostly black with bold, vibrant rainbow colours serving up a stark contrast. Instead of just splattered at random, this time they are forming the shape of sets of gears and cogs that are all interlocked together. Since the tour is called FIXED ENGINE it only makes sense to have some mechanical-themed art! And of course, that white stencilling used for the letters is back too on some of the gears with the band name and tour name once again. The gears and cogs motif is used a lot on the FIXED ENGINE tour, so it’s great to see it with the bright colours often used in Yorke’s art right on the outside of the box.
On the Inside

The outside of the packaging is a slip-cover protective box to keep the actual contents safe, and inside there is a separate hard case containing the two Blu-Ray discs. This case uses the same stencilled block letters from the outside box, but is much easier to read the words “OLDCODEX Tour 2017 FIXED ENGINE.” It has less emphasis placed on the background and more on this text. Upon opening this case, you’re greeted with the two Blu-Ray discs in a dual-holder, one with the concert itself and another with the bonus material. Both continue the theme of the same large white lettering and chaotic background art. The other side of the case has a dramatic picture of Yorke and Ta_2 silhouetted on the stage, which definitely gets you pumped and ready to watch the concert!

A great feature that comes with the OLDCODEX Live Blu-ray “FIXED ENGINE" 2017 in BUDOKAN Blu-Ray is a small photobook that was also inside of the case. It’s not very big, but still has 22 pages of full-colour pictures! A few of them are Yorke’s graffiti art from the shows, usually reading the band’s name or the tour name. Some also feature the concert venues and crowd shots showcasing the high energy in the halls. Of course, most of the pictures are of the band members themselves though! About half are Ta_2 and half are Yorke, with some really awesome shots of them performing on the stage singing and painting. There are even a few bonus shots from behind the scenes of them as well! All of the pictures are printed on quality glossy paper, and while the book is just a paperback one without any text, it’s a cool item. We recommend having a look through it before popping the Blu-Ray in to get yourself hyped for the show! Finally, there’s one last slip of paper on the inside. It has a black and white picture of Yorke and Ta_2 smiling together for the camera in the background, and all of OLDCODEX’s upcoming tour dates across Japan. If you’re a fan in Japan, it’s a great reference for their next shows for the remainder of 2017, along with info and prices for how to get tickets. The reverse of the paper also has two more tour dates for early 2018 in Japan, and another great picture of Yorke and Ta_2 together again!

Product Features

A great feature of the OLDCODEX Live Blu-ray “FIXED ENGINE" 2017 in BUDOKAN Blu-Ray is that it is suited for all regions! So even if you don’t live in Japan or have a Japanese Blu-Ray player, you can still order and enjoy it all the same. As long as you have a Blu-Ray player and not just DVD, it should work for you wherever you are. This means OLDCODEX fans around the world that couldn’t necessarily make it to the FIXED ENGINE tour can still enjoy it! It’s a nice little bonus for fans in Japan planning their next OLDCODEX show.
The Performance

Of course, because the OLDCODEX Live Blu-ray “FIXED ENGINE" 2017 in BUDOKAN is the final concert in the tour, you can expect it to be a massive show! Plus the BUDOKAN is a huge venue with lots of space for many fans, and the show looks completely sold out. There are OLDCODEX fans filming the pit as well as all the balconies, and they're all keeping the energy high. The concert starts out strong and hardly lets that energy die for the entire show, and that's saying something considering they perform 26 songs!! You can see the sweat running down Ta_2 and Yorke's faces, and you know they're performing their hearts out.

The blu ray is a great way to see the set-up of the stage and the atmosphere of the venue. The entire backdrop on the stage is the same motif of massive gears and cogs that match the design on the Blu-ray box (and you can see them being designed on the behind the scenes disc!). It opens with nothing but mysterious instrumentals and green laser lights flashing the tour and band name and letting the excitement build up. When the band finally appears on the stage, you can get excited at home along with all the fans that are actually there when the music becomes live and the stage lights up as the first song begins. Most of OLDCODEX's songs are really upbeat, strong rock anthems and the blu ray captures them well. Even when it slows down for a few ballads, Yorke's dramatic painting keeps you captivated to the screen as you wait for what is sure to be an energetic recovery coming next. The ups and downs are well planned to give the crowd a break when they need it and then bring them right back into the fray.

The concert footage has plenty of focus on Ta_2 and Yorke of course, but also features the other members of the band that actually play the music. And of course, there are lots of sweeping crowd shots and wide angle shots to show the entire stage! With everything from the instruments being played to Yorke painting to Ta_2 singing and the fans rocking out along with him, it shows a wide variety of everything happening at the concert. Of course nothing can compare to being at a live show, but with 125 minutes’ worth of OLDCODEX music shot with good sound and picture quality, the blu ray is the next best thing. If you were there and want to relive the day or are just happy to be able to enjoy the show in blu ray form, the quality of filmography doesn't disappoint. It's the next best thing to feeling like you're there.

10 Loli Anime [Updated Best Recommendations]

Honey’s Anime have mentioned several times that anime is better than any other animated medium because of its wide variety of tackling anything ranging from toy car battles that put everyone’s life on the line to stories about breaking the fabrics of reality. Anime also tackles subjects that may be too controversial or even illegal. One of these subjects is loli, or stories involving pubescent young girls in sometimes risque situations. But what is exactly a loli? Generally, a loli is a young prepubescent girl, usually around the age of 12-13. However, a loli can also be a girl who is a teenager or even an adult but has childlike appearances, personality, and behavior, or a combination of those. And lastly, loli is an anime genre invented by the West describing a show or movie involving a romance between an adult male or female character with a young, usually pre-teen, girl. Or a genre of anime about loli fetishes. Taking these into consideration, Honey’s Anime is going to list down the Top 10 Loli Anime that falls into any of these categories. We’re going to exclude anime made specifically for children and focus more on shows that are aimed teenagers and up. The anime shows listed must be centered around to more than one loli character, so no shows with single lolis. Now then, let’s lock our doors, close the windows, make sure to use closed-back headphones, and turn off the lights… And have a phone with the number of your lawyer at the ready because we’re gonna jump right in at the forbidden world of lolis!
10. Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai! (Listen to Me, Girls. I Am Your Father!)

- Episodes: 12
- Aired: January 2012-March 2012
We’re gonna cheat a bit because Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai! *phew* or PapaKiki for short is a pseudo-loli anime. There is one token loli in the anime -- Miu, but depending on how flexible is your preferred age range, the 3-year-old Hina, and the 14-year-old Sora can be considered lolis as well. But the main reason why this is on the list is Miu, who is voiced by Kitamura Eri, a seiyuu who voiced a popular loli (we’ll get to that soon). When you hear her speak, it’s hard to ignore her voice similar to another loli from another anime series. So much so that one can’t help but think of inappropriate things to he—Stop imagining indecent thoughts toward this young, ripe and supple little girl, dear reader! Lolis are for petting and cuddling only! But in all seriousness, PapaKiki is more focused on the story of Segawa Yuuta, a college freshman taking responsibility to raise the three young daughters of his sister who died in a plane crash, as their new father. The path of going there is harsh for he has to raise money and care for the girls. PapaKiki is not an anime that is filled with fanservice, it’s an anime about being a responsible parent and the sacrifices it entails. But with that said though… They weren’t holding back in the OVA. Whew… just saying. By the way, are you sure your lawyer is on the line?
9. Ichigo Mashimaro (Strawberry Marshmallow)

- Episodes: 12
- Aired: July 2005-October 2015
Once you’re done with PapaKiki, the next on this list is an anime that is heartwarming, cute and funny. Ichigo Mashimaro falls under the “Cute girls doing cute things” category along with the likes of Yuru Yuri, Kiniro Mosaic, and Gochuumon wa Usagi desu ka?, but the main difference is 90% of the main cast in Ichigo Mashimaro are true lolis who are below the teenage bracket. And like shows of cute girls doing cute things, Ichigo Mashimaro’s story is focused on the 5 main cast doing daily things like making presents, go to school, study and so on with a sprinkle of humor that will get you chuckling in the end. The fanservice is on the lighter side and while there are some moments that will get a lolicon happy, they’re not too uncomfortable to break the mood. If you want to start your descent into loli anime, Ichigo Mashimaro is a comfy start. You’re safe... for now.
8. Astarotte no Omocha! (Astarotte's Toy!)

- Episodes: 12
- Aired: April 2011-June 2011
Princess Astarotte Ygvar is a young succubus from the Creature Realm, and she’s reaching the age where she starts making her harem full of men to suck their life-seeds in order to grow and survive. The problem is Astarotte hates men and she does her best to avoid her mentor Judit from teaching her the ways. To finally get Judit off her back, Astarotte challenged Judit to bring back a human male from the forgotten realm of humans. Surprisingly, Judit successfully entered the human realm and brought back a fine male specimen named Touhara Naoya. Will Astarotte accept Naoya to cure herself of her fear of men and finally start her male harem in order to survive adulthood? But wait, don’t go start watching due to its premise because… well… you’ll see none of that sucking the life-seeds out of men thing from this anime. It’s too early on the list for that sort of stuff! The story focuses on antics of Astarotte being a tsundere and has androphobia, and a story about Astarotte’s upbringing, struggles and how is Naoya a part in this web of mysteries. Initially, the anime is fanservice comedy with boob shots, awkward skirt shots, and a loli crotch to the face, but the tone shifts to a more serious side. Your experience with the anime may vary depending on what you’re expecting from this anime: a loli succubus gulping down some mayonnaise or just a heartwarming story about family.
7. Mitsudomoe

- Episodes: 13
- Gired: July 2010-September 2010
Newly graduated teacher Yabe Satoshi is excited for his first day as an elementary teacher and thrilled to meet his first students. Unfortunately, he teaches a class with the Marui Sisters — the notorious triplets with attitude problems. Futaba, Mitsuba, Hitoha wastes no time in bringing Satoshi literal hell on Earth. Think of Dennis the Menace, multiply the titular troublemaker by 3, turn them into lolis for good measure, but with attitudes that are far more extreme, violent and without the ignorance of childish innocence. You get the teacher’s living nightmare Mitsudomoe. In a way, Mitsudomoe is similar to Ichigo Mashimaro and other slice of life anime involving a bunch of cute girls, but with a twist of malice and lots of toilet humor. The Marui sisters aren’t your usual cute lolis for they’re extremely strong, violent, sadistic, perverted and manipulative towards their classmates, especially towards their teacher Satoshi. If you’re into lolis who bites back (literally and figuratively), love toilet humor, and who is (probably) a masochist, then Mitsudomoe is an extremely funny series of 3 lolis bringing pain and nightmares to anyone who gets in their way.
6. Ro-Kyu-Bu! (Ro-Kyu-Bu ~ Fast Break!)

- Episodes: 12
- Aired: July 2011-September 2011
Lolis, spats, bloomers, maid uniforms, Ro-Kyu-Bu! ticks the right boxes for a loli anime with a competitive basketball twist. Heck, even the premise is what you’d expect from a loli anime: Hasegawa Subaru’s dream to play basketball in high school was shot down after the team captain was found out he was having a relationship with their coach’s underaged daughter, and the team was suspended. Ouch. However, fate has forced him to wear his uniform and hold the ball once again when his aunt forced him to coach for a girls basketball club at an elementary school. Reluctant at first, but after seeing the girls, especially the future point guard, and star player of the team Minato Tomoka and their love for the soon-disbanding club, Subaru gathers up the courage to stand up and teach them basketball. If you’ve seen the classic Slam Dunk and the current anime Kuroko no Basket, Ro-Kyu-Bu! plays out similarly of a struggling basketball club, a star player determined to be the best, scenes of the players practicing basketball basics, and the eventual matches against rival teams. And with the added twist cute lolis with oversized fluffy hairs, Ro-Kyu-Bu! is a cute take on the basketball anime. Obviously Ro-Kyu-Bu! is not as serious as other sports anime, but it’s serious enough for you to care about these girls doing their best to learn basketball.

5. Cardcaptor Sakura

- Episodes: 70
- Aired: April 1998-March 2000
Add a toasted jam on her mouth while running late for school, Kinomoto Sakura is your average genki middle schooler. And like any average middle schooler, Sakura is always full of energy, gets teased a lot by her big brother, has a loving father, a dead mother, has a best friend with a weird hobby and has a crush on someone who is older than her. One day she stumbles on a book she saw in her dream, and upon opening it, the cards are magical and Sakura accidentally scattered them throughout the world. Keroberos (sorry, not the three-headed dog Cerberus) appeared before Sakura and told her that he’s the guardian of the Clow Cards, magical cards holding immense power, Sakura has released. What are they gonna do? Well, Keroberos has appointed Sakura the title of Cardcaptor and it’s up to them to find and retake the Clow Cards before they bright catastrophe to the world! Cardcaptor Sakura is a visual marvel from start to finish all thanks to CLAMP’s impressive attention to detail and attractive character design. And it’s arguably the 90s was when CLAMP was at its best in delivering well-animated shows. These days CLAMP getting meme’d for creating noodle people art styles. But to be fair, CLAMP made some other great shows, but their very best work is perhaps Cardcaptor Sakura. But anyway… Cardcaptor Sakura is structured episodically sort of a like the monster-of-the-week format where Sakura hunts down the Clow Cards, though most of the time the anime is focused more on the daily lives of a huge cast of quirky characters, most notably Sakura’s best friend and secret admirer Daidouji Tomoyo who loves to take photos and video of Sakura. And once Tomoyo founds out Sakura is a mahou shoujo, Tomoyo is the primary source of an assortment of dresses for Sakura to wear. And here’s a fun fact: Sakura’s dress is different in every episode. For the loli factor, Cardcaptor Sakura is pretty tame and harmless, though you get some awkward moments of Sakura getting all embarrassed in front of her crush, the much older Yukito, and moments like Tomoyo acting way too suspicious like she’s actually gay towards Sakura. But actually, everyone in the anime is showing signs of gayness.
4. Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya

- Episodes: 10
- Aired: July 2013-September 2013
Illyasviel von Einzbern is your typical elementary school student who is friendly, kind, has good grades and likes her brother a lot, has become a mahou shoujo because the talking magical wand Kaleidostick Ruby is fed up with her former master Tohsaka Rin, and sees Illya as a worthy successor. With the power of Kaleidostick Ruby, Illya is now tasked to hunt for seven Class Cards containing the Heroic Spirits of legend. Prisma Illya is a story of love, magic and a ton of ecchi moments. Prisma Illya is a guilty pleasure anime to the fans of the Fate series who are tired of seeing world-ending stories with characters who barely cracks a joke to inject some fun once in a while. With so many sequels, it’s not hard to tell this spin-off series is extremely popular with fans or non-fans of the Fate series. And this anime is no way innocent for it has tons of sexual jokes, fetishes, incest, crude humor, and sexually suggestive scenes involving lolis which you will immediately tell is not meant for kids. Prisma Illya has interesting stories to tell and some dark moments, but you get this feeling the anime is self-aware and sometimes breaks the tension by cracking a joke… A lot of ecchi. For all intents and purposes, Prisma Illya is another magical girl similar to Cardcaptor Sakura, but with lots sexual jokes and imagery. And for anyone who is tired of shows taking itself way too seriously, those are good enough justification to watch this series about “cute lolis doing cute lolis” and not worry about anything else.
3. Moetan

- Episodes: 12
- Gired: July 2007-September 2007
Despite her look and childish demeanor, Nijihara Ink is a high school student with a future ahead of her. But one day, a literal talking duck fell from the sky and Ink nursed him back to health. It turns out the duck, now named Ah-kun, is a powerful wizard from a magical kingdom and was sent to Earth against his will by his master. On Earth, Ah-kun grants Ink the power to transform into the mahou shoujo Pastel Ink and use her power to… help her crush study English. Moetan is a parody anime with lots of jokes hardcore otaku will figure out, sprinkled with lots and lots of moe moments, that you might end up getting type-2 diabetes. And of course, this anime being centered around lolis and mahou shoujo, Moetan wastes no time to deliver lots of loli fanservice like lots of panty shots, transformation scenes where Ink starts off naked, awkward moments and with some popular staples like rivals, love interests and a bit of action. Ink is loli by looks, not by age and you won’t notice that if the anime didn’t mention Ink is 17 and is in high school. And this sort of age manipulation is the perfect excuse to make lots of ecchi loli scenes and without the guilt the girls are underaged. And you probably noticed by now loli and mahou shoujo goes in hand in hand like peanut butter and jelly because cute lolis look cuter in frilly clothes. Yeah, this combination makes Sailor Moon too old to be a mahou shoujo. Out goes the old and busted, here comes the new hotness.
2. Yawaraka Sangokushi Tsukisase!! Ryofuko-chan

- Episodes: 4
- Aired: December 2007-March 2008
What happens when a couple of grown perverted men transformed into pubescent girls? And they’re surrounded by other pubescent girls? And has a habit of groping said girls? You pretty much get Ryofuko-chan. Don’t expect any stories or plot points relating to the Three Kingdoms story because Ryofuko-chan doesn’t reference any of them, and there is no real plot. Two popular figures from the Three Kingdoms story ended up on Earth as elementary girls and the chaos revolves around Ryofuko groping his… er... her classmates, badmouthing her teacher for having massive F-cup boobs, and do things no normal girl should be doing. Watching Ryofuko-chan must be done in private because not only you see these lolis in the nude very often, there are scenes of older men gazing at these girls’ skirts with pervy eyes, lots of sex jokes, a fat otaku stalking, and scenes with two hunky guys with permanent boners who get all horny when giving CPR to other hunky men. And there’s even a scene of two guys directly staring at a loli’s… uh… taco. Ryofuko-chan is, admittedly, very funny, but in an uncomfortable way that will make you question why Japan is into this sort of thing and is this anime even legal to own in your country. Ryofuko-chan is a shameless, yet entertaining loli anime catered specifically to the lolicon crowd, and it’s obviously not for everyone. You’re not using the family PC, are you?
1. Kodomo no Jikan (A Child's Time)

- Episodes: 12
- Aired: October 2007-December 2007
Daisuke Aoki is a 3rd-grade teacher who meets Kokonoe Rin, a very young girl with long hair. After an act of kindness from Aoki, Rin made Aoki, her teacher, her lover. Rin literally wants her 3rd-grade teacher to be her lover. Who would have thought that your biggest obstacles in your life come from the most unexpected places! But is Rin’s love for Aoki really true? Are her feelings just puppy love? Or is it genuine true love? Does actively seducing Aoki mean something else? Loli anime is often made as a form of fanservice and it’s rare to see one with a mature story to tell. Astarotte no Omocha did tell, or at least try to tell a mature story, but it’s not as grounded as Kodomo no Jikan with a story of an adult teacher falling in love with his young student. Aoki is not a pervert and is a respectable man, but with Rin’s sexual advances, and Aoki slowly discovering Rin’s past, upbringing, and character, it’s not hard to see why Aoki is opening his heart. There’s a lot of loli fanservice in Kodomo no Jikan, but they’re not tacked on just for the sake of fanservice like Ryofuko-chan. They’re there to titillate and evoke an emotion that their love is forbidden. If you think loli anime is just exploitative material, go watch Kodomo no Jikan. Not all Japan makes are for lolicons and a fetish can be molded into something worthwhile and insightful to watch. Remember: The great thing about anime is it tackles any story, even stories that are deemed too controversial in the West and the rest of the world. Oh and Rin is voiced by Kitamura Eri, the same seiyuu who voiced the loli Takanashi Miu from PapaKiki. Remember: Lolis are for petting and cuddling only!
Final Thoughts
And there you have it. Loli-centric anime can be more than fanservice and it’s not for everyone. Some tell a good heartwarming story or even a tragic one, but some just for the shock and humor factor. Watching a loli telling a vulgar joke can be entertaining, but watching a loli falling in love with someone older than her can be intriguing when done right. Anime truly does everything. Now, loli anime and loli characters weren’t truly made just to exploit children. No one in the right mind would do such a thing. It’s true that Japan is too lenient with sexual content in their entertainment medium, but it’s their culture and their right to freedom of expression, a right that is sorely lacking in the rest of the world. And the age of consent in Japan is 13 years old. We’re oversimplifying this and this will be a topic for another day, but a few other factors are reasons why loli fanservice is generally allowed in Japan. Does watching loli anime turn you into a pedo? We’ll ask you this: Does watching violent movies or playing violent video games turn you into a violent person, make you go on a murderous rampage and shoot everyone in the head with a 360 no-scope sniper kill shot? Not everything in this beautiful blue planet is one-dimensional or black or white! Uh… are you hearing police sirens outside your window, just now? No? Huh… It’s probably just our imagina—Hmm, someone’s at the door… OH CRA—

They are small, they are cute, they are innocent and make our hearts go Dokyun! Loli are the cute girls that, with their innocence and freshness make anime more fun, reminding us an age where everything was simpler. In anime, talking about loli is different from lolicon or lolitas. It refers to the attributes that make something kawai and more youthful. For the cuteness that captures our hearts and inspires us to rediscover the world through the eyes of these brave girls, so let us share with you our top 10 super cute loli anime. It doesn’t matter if they are sweet tomboys, or the cutest tsundere, loli have inspired the world.
10. Toradora!

Sometimes power can come in small packages, and with a punch of comedy. Toradora tell us the story of Ryuuji Takasu, a high school boy with one of the more scariest delinquent faces that you can imagine, and contrary to his caring and house oriented nature, Ryuuji’s looks cause him all sorts of trouble. One day in school, Ryuuji crosses paths with his classmate “The Palmtop Tiger,” Taiga Aisaka who is delicate and small like an elementary school kid, when in reality, she has the power to really kick ass, especially Ryuuji’s. Toradora is a romantic comedy that brings out all the cuteness of loli anime with the protagonist Taiga Aisaka. Taiga is as petite and beautiful as a bisque doll with the height of a little child. Taiga surprises everyone with the roughness of her personality, because this cute little thing has the mouth of a street fighter punk and the physical power to knock off the toughest of the boys in her school. Only with the support of her best friend Minori and of course the care and patience of our fun protagonist Ryuuji, this pocket size loli tiger shows the inside beauty and kindness that really poses and ends up trapping our hearts with her adventures.
9. Le Portrait de Petite Cossette (Cossette no Shouzou)

Le Portrait de Petite Cossette is a loli anime will leave you with chills from its use of sound and visuals. With the kind of psychological drama from horror, Le Portrait de Petite Cossette takes you to meet Eiri Kurahashi, a university student and talented artist. When Eiri takes a part time job in his family’s antique shop, Eiri touches a beautiful venetian glass cup and connects with a little girl named Cossette who asks for his help and starts showing him her life story and the developments that take her existence away. Cossette is gorgeous. Cossette is dark. A girl with an age that borders in the end of childhood and yet is always delicate and enticing. Depicting the essence of loli attraction, Cossette traps us in a story staged in the 18 century, where it wasn’t unusual to get engaged in the early teens with a much older man. Giving a cautionary tale of the results of an unhealthy romance, Cossette is a dark loli that will enchant you with her striking perfect features and haunt all the boys with the sadness of her dark blue eyes, because even as gorgeous as a French doll, this little girl hides an iron will to end her unresolved issues even if she has to sacrifice Eiri in the process. In a mystic story tinged with romance, Rozen Maiden is a series that attracts the same shounen and shoujo fans, by giving a myriad of characters from the beautiful dolls. There’s the aristocratic Shinju, the tomboy Souseiseki, the childish Hinaichigo, the sadistic Suigintou and the feminine Suiseiseki. Then we have the flesh and blood girls, the loyal Tomoe Kashiwaba and the joyful Nori Sakurada. Destiny 2 - PS4 Review

Kick em’ in the Cabals, Guardian!
Game Info:
- System: PS4, XBO, PC
- Publisher: Activision-Blizzard
- Developer: Bungie
- Release Date: September 6th, 2017 (October 25th, 2017 PC)
- Price:$59.99
- Rating: T for Teen
- Genre: FPS
- Players: 1-6
- Official Website: https://www.bungie.net/
Who it Caters to

The first Destiny was the first release from Halo series creator, Bungie, after their separation from Microsoft. It was a sci-fi action epic that allowed for a cooperative experience that hadn’t been seen before in a FPS. Although it got a number of things wrong that scared away all but the most committed players, there wasn’t anything quite like it on the market.
As someone who put in a staggering 2,500+ hours into the original Destiny on PS4, I awaited Destiny 2 with great anticipation. Would my favorite guns be back? Would there be new weapons and armor to fall in love with? I couldn’t wait to see what new experiences laid in store for me and the nearly 100 new gamers I’d met and befriended during the past three years.
In short, Destiny 2 caters to everyone who enjoyed the first game, as well as everyone who quit playing it for any number of completely valid reasons. Bungie’s patented FPS gameplay is back, but with it comes a host of new, meaningful challenges, as well as a fully fleshed out cinematic campaign. To put it bluntly, this is the game that the first Destiny should have been.
What to Expect

As a game with loot, so too is there a grind to attain it. Fortunately, Destiny 2 has created multiple paths to rewards that don’t force you to constantly farm for materials and resources like in the first game. The game tries to keep you doing as many different things as possible to keep from feeling fatigued over repetitive tasks. If you like feeling like you always have something new to do, this is a game for you.
Depending on the kind of gamer you are, it’s very important to understand in what ways Destiny 2 is different than your usual FPS. First things first, you’re going to either have friends to play with or be comfortable making friends. Bungie has made soloing Destiny 2 an easier and more enjoyable experience, but you’re not getting the most out of the game doing things by yourself. With the newly released Guided Games feature, the most difficult experiences from the first game, Nightfalls and Raids, can be done via matchmaking. Still, these activities require effective communication, so be ready to put on the headset and sit up if you’re a laid back gamer.
Also, if you enjoy competitive multiplayer, then you might be in for some disappointing news. Every multiplayer mode in Destiny 2 is 4v4 vs the 6v6, 3v3, and free-for-all modes of the first game. This change removes a lot of variety from the game, and also forces you to work together with your teammates more than ever before. It’s very difficult to just join a match and have an amazing game without sticking with your other three teammates. Players who play with friends will have a more enjoyable experience, but those that like playing a couple of matches casually will probably feel a bit outmatched.

[ad_top2 class="mt40 mb40"]
Story

One of the biggest complaints of the first game came from the lackluster, and almost non-existent storyline in the campaign missions. In Destiny 2, there is a contained story told throughout the campaign. Ghaul, the leader of the Red Legion of the Cabal race has come to Earth. His mission is to take the Traveler, the source of your Guardian’s power, for himself. Depending on your familiarity with the first game, you may or may not be aware that the Destiny universe has a rich, deep lore. Unfortunately, Bungie left 90% of this lore out of the playable game, and instead placed it in collectible grimoire cards that had to be read through websites. This time around, it’s a much more polished and enjoyable first-time playthrough experience.
Many of the NPC characters in Destiny 1 receive a prominent role throughout the story. You’ll fight alongside them, watch them come to your rescue, and take a more active role in the story. Many new NPCs also join the cast, giving you much needed guidance during your journey. Keeping everything straight for your first time can be a bit confusing if you’re only going off of your past experience.
Destiny 2 has revamped the storytelling approach entirely. While it’s not 100% as streamlined as players may be used to, the campaign is conclusive and meaningful. Your advancement throughout the campaign is tied to your progression through the game, meaning you will want to complete the story this time around to get the best rewards.
Gameplay

While, initially, I was very turned off by the more cartoony look that Destiny 2 has adopted over the first game, it eventually grew on me. Destiny 1 looks much more photorealistic, and the sequel looks more like it has visual influence from something like Overwatch at times. It does balance out, and for the most part it’s pleasing to the eye. However, there are some inconsistent looks to the design on worlds like Titan. It doesn’t look very polished, at times looking incredibly last generation graphics-wise. Io also looks incredibly cartoonish, but the other worlds, like Nessus, and especially the European Deadzone on Earth, are visually interesting.
Still, despite Bungie’s claims that they felt going for more action on screen was more important than hitting 60fps on consoles, it doesn’t feel like it was a worthy tradeoff. Having played the PC version, even at the lowest settings, the improved look and feel at 60fps is something that would have been much appreciated on consoles. Technically, the game feels very much as limited as Destiny did in many regards. Loading into the Tower is buggy, and as of this writing, it’s likely that you will crash to the dashboard regularly. Also, your weapons, your character or other players, and even NPCs will fail to load in certain instances. This may be due to server load, but it’s been going on for three weeks, it’s high time Bungie addressed it.
Gameplay-wise Bungie slowed down movement immensely from Destiny. Your characters will move at less than half speed, as well as charge their abilities much slower. It takes a while to get used to, and it’s arguable whether this made the game better or not, but it’s not a death sentence. The addition of the clamber ability is useful in a number of situations, so movement altogether still has its draws. When facing a ledge at chest height, your Guardian will scramble up it instead of falling like in the previous game.
All three subclasses from The Taken King expansion return for each three classes in Destiny 2. The arc Stormcaller, the void Nightstalker, and the solar Sunbreaker round out the elements for each class. New subclasses replace old ones, but have similar abilities. Hunter’s Arc Strider, Warlock’s Dawncaller, and Titan’s Sentinel each have aspects that improve upon the subclasses they replace.

As far as loot goes, the way it's distributed is much more fair this time around. In Destiny, you would get random perks on weapons, and in earlier expansions, you could reroll to get the perfect weapon you wanted. Now, all weapons have the same perks, and some have a similar stats version under a different name with separate but similar perks. If there’s a weapon you want, you won’t have to grind for the perfect roll. Just look at whichever vendor has it in their loot pool and then work towards rank-ups to hopefully get it as a drop.
The game’s soundtrack is missing Marty O’Donnell after his firing from Bungie years ago. That said, the soundtrack still sounds amazing. Much of the team that worked with him on Halo is still at Bungie, and the score is at times very moving. The custom pieces that play during the Leviathan Raid are also really striking, but depending on your success during it, you may get tired of hearing them after countless failures!
Campaign missions, adventures and patrol quests are all started from the planets you land on now. You never need to go to orbit to access something, you can do it from wherever you are in the game. Each world also has a lot going on, from high value targets which drop loot and tokens for unlocks, to returning public events. Public events now have more difficult Heroic versions which drop higher rewards and require teamwork from everyone in the area.
All in all, the game feels like there’s a lot more to stay busy with. Players who got tired of the tedium of the first game will be able to go through more activities that keep their guns drawn and the action flowing. As a returning veteran, it feels exciting to have new places to explore in after knowing the old game like the back of your hand.
[ad_middle class="mt40 mb40"]
Honey's Gameplay Consensus:
As far as PvE and story missions are concerned, it’s a far better game. Players who dropped the first game after a couple weeks should have much more reason to stick around for a good while. There are so many different missions and activities, that you will rarely encounter the same thing twice casually playing an hour or two a day.
However, as someone who played the PvP in Destiny for the majority of their time, and followed Bungie from their Halo days, it’s a bitter pill to swallow. The movement speed reduction, the lack of selectable multiplayer playlists, and the scale down to 4v4 all lends itself to a less fun game overall. Many argued that PvP felt tacked on in Destiny than a major focus like in Halo, and this feels like even more of a reduction than that. Bungie’s days of making competitive multiplayer FPSs may, in fact, be long gone if Destiny 2 is any indication.
That said, the new Countdown mode, which places players on attack and defense in rotating rounds, is a blast for the new Trials of the Nine. Playing with three friends towards a common goal and having to win 7 games in a row without losing a single match is thrilling. Even players who can’t make it flawless are rewarded for getting to 7 wins in 10 games. Powerful engrams that grant armor and weapons lie atop each spire location at 3, 5, and 7 wins. If you think you have what it takes to beat the best players on the planet, then try your luck in Trials.

The only weak point is the Leviathan Raid, unfortunately. Previous Raids in Destiny had been a mix of boss fights and puzzles, but Leviathan only has one end boss fight and each encounter is an assortment of puzzles. Depending on who you play with and their level of awareness, it could be a simple attempt or an all-day chore. Personally, Destiny is at its best when shooting is the main focus, so jumping, standing, and sneaking around to solve puzzles for hours on end doesn’t feel right. I would rank it as the least exciting Raid behind Oryx for overly complicated encounters.
Honey's Pros:
- Sense of Exploration
- Story-driven Campaign mode
- Guided Games for solo players
- Subclass changes
Honey's Cons:
- 4v4 PvP across every mode
- Only two playlist options for multiplayer
- Raid is too puzzle focused, too few boss fights
Honey's Final Verdict:

Destiny 2 is a much better game for players who feel sinking 60 hours into a game is getting their money’s worth. For power players like yours truly who especially like to get their PvP on, the game loses major points for restricting options. Much of Destiny 2 feels like major steps forward, but there are some definite steps backward that become noticeable the more you play it.

Culdcept Revolt - 3DS Review

It’s all in the cards
- System: 3DS
- Publisher: NIS America
- Developer: Omiyasoft
- Release Date: October 3rd, 2017 (NA)
- Price:$39.99
- T: Teen
- Genre: Strategy, Board/Card Game
- Players: 1-4
- Official Website: http://nisamerica.com/games/culdcept-revolt/
Who it Caters to

Culdcept originally got started in 1997 on the Sega Saturn in Japan, but Western audiences didn’t get to experience the series until 2003 when it released on the Playstation 2. While it wasn’t a smash hit, Culdcept managed to develop a small but devout cult following who were struck by its unique blending of board and card-based gameplay. These are two genres that are heavily criticized for their over-reliance on luck, but somehow, putting the two genres together managed to balance out the luck factor since it was more about playing what was given to you rather than left up to the whims of Lady Luck. Culdcept turned out to make enough of a splash that it got an Xbox 360 exclusive sequel in 2006 in Japan, and then later found its way to America in 2008. This was especially exciting for fans of the original’s multiplayer mode due to the addition of online play.
After Culdcept Saga, though, the franchise disappeared overseas. But Omiyasoft kept the series alive in Japan, releasing versions for the DS, PSP, and even Playstation 3. This was frustrating for Western fans who were still hungry for more but didn’t know Japanese nor could reliably import new releases. Demand grew so high that fans even started putting out their own fan-translated cartridges of the DS game. As luck would have it, Nintendo seemingly noticed the series’ devout fandom and ended up publishing Culdcept Revolt themselves for the 3DS. Now, NISA has finally brought over the most recent entry to finally give Western fans that new entry they’ve so craved for the past nine years.
What to Expect

The best way to describe Culdcept would be Monopoly, if Monopoly gave you a reliable means of getting out of paying when you land on another person’s property. Before even entering a game, though, you’ll need to assemble a deck like you would in Magic the Gathering or the Pokemon Trading Card game. You’ll use these cards for effectively any action you would make on the board. If you land on a property, you’ll place a monster card on the area to claim it as your own. If you land on someone else’s property, you can use a monster card to fight your way out of having pay up. You can even use other cards to enhance your own fighter’s stats, but keep in mind your opponent will have that same opportunity to defend their land with their own cards, so you’ll need to plan out your strategy before you even engage.
The goal of each match is to build up enough “magic” (coyly measured with a “G”) and then make it back to one of the several home spaces located across one of Culdcept’s many different board layouts. It’s based on overall wealth and value rather than just what you have on hand, however. In order to build up your worth, you’ll need to buy up as many properties as possible and invest your spending magic in them. That way, when an opponent lands on your space, you’ll be able to steal away their magic for yourself. However, you’ll need to strategically think through which land you’ll need to buy, as the monsters you have in your deck have a color that corresponds to the color of the property and will gain bonuses if they’re played on a space of the same color.

Story

One day, a man wakes up in a mysterious void with no memory of who he is and no idea of what is going on. A strange, distant voice explains to him his powers as a Cepter (i.e. how you play the game), guides him through this void, and then reveals herself to be a gorgeous woman. Her name is Alicia, and she leads a rebel group called the Free Bats. Their goal? To escape the city they’re locked within. See, the ruler of the city, Count Kraniss has sealed off the town from the outside world and is mercilessly hunting down all the Cepters who reside within. The Free Bats will have to be careful as they sneak around town hiding from the Count’s minions, who are powerful Cepters in their own right. However, you, playing as the mysterious man (canon name: Allen), aren’t terribly concerned with their plight. Instead, you’ll explore the city in an attempt to regain your own memories.
We’re not going to lie: the world of Culdcept doesn’t make a lot of sense. The game does attempt to tell a serious tale with quite a bit of character growth for each of its central characters and detailed character backgrounds, but a lot of that is undermined by how the game of Culdcept doesn’t quite fit within the context of its world. It’s not a bad story, mind you: it’s briskly paced and actually has some surprising twists along the way, but just keep in mind that it’s ultimately there to keep the player invested in the gameplay. It can be an engaging plot, but it can also be a bit distracting early on in the game when it feels like they could substitute the “Culdcept” gameplay with anything else and it wouldn’t make too much of a difference.
Gameplay

Culdcept Revolt largely works due to the breadth of its options in the course of a single game. It’d be very easy to pin a bad roll or a poor hand solely on how these mechanics are based on luck, but that wouldn’t be entirely fair. In addition to just the core mechanics detailed earlier, you have a wealth of other options you can perform in a single turn in exchange for another option. Do you have an overabundance of weapons in your hand and a property smack dab in the middle of a large area that a single opponent owns? Don’t just sit on them! Send your guy over into their land, claim it for your own, and ruin their property bonus for having so many of the same color! Have a “Move 1” space spell sitting around in your hand, and your enemy is right next to one of your own properties? Cast it on them and then at the end of your turn build up that land so they have to pay out the nose for it! Bad rolls and draws are going to come, no doubt, and the above strategies aren’t always going to work, but with as flexible as the system is, it’s more about learning to work with the hand you’re given rather than it being entirely the luck of the draw.
Plus, since you build your deck before each match, it’s not as if you should be having too many poor draws to begin with. Each different monster will have unique properties in addition to their normal HP and Strength stats. Some automatically attack first, some block attacks from certain colors of monsters, some score critical hits when given a certain type of item, and so forth. The card-building system in this regard provides a system of checks and balances to the property management system; you need to build a deck based on how you want to play, while accounting for bad rolls. It instills just enough doubt in your mind so that you can’t always just say “Well if I hadn’t gotten that bad roll…” or “If I had just drawn this card…”. You need to understand when you should be saving cards and when you should use them right away. It’s random, but for the most part it still feels pretty fair.

There are some extremely frustrating exceptions to this rule, though. There are certain monster cards of which the effects are completely random. As defensive cards, these are perfectly fine because their chaotic nature makes you think twice about going up against them. But this is not always the case. The most egregious example of this is Baldanders, whose special property is that so long as it’s alive, it will transform into a completely different monster entirely at random. Baldanders can be played as an invading card, so if someone lands on your space, they play Baldanders, and it turns them into a monster that just so happens to be the perfect counter of your defending monster when you have almost no means to defend against it. It’s an extreme example, but Baldanders isn’t the only card with this kind of random attribute, and it belittles the otherwise very carefully balanced property management and card game systems.
All of this might seem a bit overwhelming, but surprisingly, Culdcept Revolt does a fairly decent job introducing concepts slowly to you throughout the course of play. This is partially because the rules of Culdcept are heavily influenced by Monopoly, so it’s effectively building on top of that already familiar base. The rules to the card game are inherently simple as well (simply pit a card against your opponent’s card, and if your strength is higher than their HP and you attack before they do, you win), so it’s mainly a matter of keeping track of everyone’s cards and their properties. It’s actually much less complicated than it seems.
However, if you really need to be eased into the game, Culdcept Revolt does offer a handy guidance arrow system, where it will place an arrow over a recommended action for you to take. This serves as a double-edge sword; on one hand, this does make the game significantly easier to get into because you never have to really worry about your own moves. However, this also effectively puts the game on auto-pilot, as all you end up doing is simply following the directions that the game gives you. From what we played, there didn’t appear to be any disadvantage from having this on. We won the same amount of money (used for buying in-game card packs to build your decks) for winning a campaign match, we still earned achievements, and we seemingly got the same amount of XP. The game is fun when you’re trying to figure it out, and it’s nice that the guidance arrow is at least optional, but at the same time the single-player campaign is hurt by its presence since there’s no apparent reward for not using it nor a punishment for using it.

Honey's Gameplay Consensus:

If you’re looking for a unique handheld multiplayer game to share with a friend, Culdcept Revolt is a blast, assuming you’ve got someone who’s willing to learn the ins-and-outs of the mechanics along with you. It is, for the most part, a well-balanced board game. You can even extend this to an online mode and go head-to-head with other players. If you’re looking for a mostly single-player experience, Culdcept might still be a fun choice just due to the sheer quirkiness of its core game, but the randomness of some of the monsters make it a difficult recommendation considering how long matches can take and how you need to take first place in a mission in order to advance the story. The mechanics simply don’t lend themselves well to a story-driven game
As a side note, we HIGHLY recommend you bump up the turn speed as soon as you can in the game settings. The default speed is almost unbearably slow.
Honey's Pros:
- Rich and satisfying tactical gameplay that successfully blends two different genres
- Appealing artwork
- Meaty single player campaign that’ll occupy hours of your time
- Great multiplayer if you’ve got someone who’s willing to learn along with you
Honey's Cons:
- Certain monster mechanics rely a bit too heavily on luck
- Mechanics don’t actually lend themselves well to a big single-player campaign
Honey's Final Verdict:
Culdcept Revolt will only appeal to a very specific niche audience, but for the ones it does appeal to, it’ll be one of the top in the genre. Even if you’re unsure and are just looking for something new, though, Culdcept Revolt is easy enough to learn, and has enough content that it’s possibly worth the investment. Just be prepared for a lot of frustration if you don’t want to just rely on the guidance arrows.

Top 10 Re:CREATORS Characters with the Most Interesting Backstories

Introduction
The anime hit of summer 2017 was most definitely Re:Creators, a cleverly written story about the world being threatened by our own creations. Creators give birth to countless worlds, some good and some bad, and we know without drama, the audience will quickly lose interest. The characters that are created are often put through the wringer in the name of that drama. Re:Creators is about the creations coming to our world, and in their perspective it’s the world of the gods, to wreak havoc and get revenge on the sick and twisted gods that would create the war-torn worlds in which they were born. The creations, determined to tear down the world of the gods, are led by Altair, a mysterious creation and a seemingly unbeatable opponent. We quickly see not all the creations pulled to our world here to destroy it, some are willing to work with their creators in the hopes of defending this world and going back to their own. The story is also about the creators and their creations coming to terms with the worlds and stories they were given. We quickly see not everything is as black and white as the pages of a book; the greys of morality bleed between the lines on the page. Re:Creators’ cast of characters, both creators and created, are well thought out and bring a lot to the plot with depth and backstory that makes you wonder who is more real–the creation or the created. We now count down the Top 10 Re:Creators Characters with the Most Interesting Back Stories.
10. Selesia Upitiria

Selesia is the first other-worldly character we meet in Re:Creators. She hails from the anime Elemental Symphony of Vogelchevalier. Selesia is the heroine of the series, a mecha pilot who fights against the Avalon Brigade which is attacking the kingdom she lives in. We are led to believe from her accounts that the Avalon Brigade is a truly monstrous regime that is a threat to civilization and they’ve been fighting hard to hold them back. She is one of those characters in a group of heroes the other heroes would call “The Best of Us.” She has natural leadership abilities and a moral compass that guides her regardless of the situation. She also seems to be in love or care very deeply for Charon, her partner in back in Vogeichevalier. Her moral compass still holds true when Charon is summoned to the real world. She is willing to fight her potential lover who has taken up Altair’s banner in defense of the world. Seleisa also seems to make a deep connection with her creator, and despite having some misgivings about the world he created, he seems to accept that she is his heroine, that she represents all that is good in his mind.
9. Meteora Osterreich
Meteora could be considered one of the main protagonists, having a role almost as central to the story as Altair. She is a young woman that is an NPC librarian from an online MMORPG. Meteora has a bookish nature; she’s an intelligent person and rather stoic. We do see that change somewhat as the series progresses, probably since as an NPC she wasn’t given much latitude in emotion and behavior. She is also curious and a problem solver, so being in a foreign world with a massive problem to solve, is right up her alley. Meteora is the second person to join the creators against Altair. The world that she was born into wasn’t a dystopia, which is one of the reasons she doesn’t have a grudge against the non-fiction world. She is even visibly shaken when she discovers that her creator died in a motorcycle crash and she’d never get to meet him. We see a lot of personal growth for Meteora, too. She dives into shopping and eating “real world” food that is filled with rich flavors and textures she didn’t get in her world of origin. We even think she develops a crush on Souta, an especially interesting development considering her fate at the end of the series. If Souta is like most of us we have a soft spot for cute librarians.
8.Mamika Kirameki

Mamika or Magical Slayer Mamika found her way to the world of the creators from an anime of the same name. She is a kind girl and has a naïve side that is fitting of most magical girl characters. She is also extremely powerful. Her attacks, though goofy and heart-shaped in nature, pack a major punch. Mamika joins Altair’s side honestly believing that they can use the creators’ powers to make their own better places. She never suspects that Altair wants to simply destroy the gods and all of existence. Mamika also develops a very close friendship with Alicetaria. The two have clashing personalities but somehow find an understanding. We see some of the most impactful and subtle character development in Mamika. She seems to grow as a person after she leaves the bonds of her story and at one point in the series even seems to suggest that to Alicetaria. Mamika lives by her ideals and not killing is one of them. When she realizes what Altair’s true plans are she makes an effort to work behind the scenes with Souta to end the crisis and action that cost her her life.
7.Yuuya Mirokuji
Yuuya is the main antagonist of the Heisaku Underground manga. Despite being an antagonist, he is in many respects a hero and chooses to fight on the side of the Creators. At his root, he is a thug. Yuuya enjoys violence like picking a fight and determining who is the toughest. The reason that Yuuya decides not to fight on Altair’s side against the gods is because he is simply happy with who he is and where he’s from. Yuuya uses a wooden sword to fight and gets some help from a spirit called Hangaku who seems to be a giant ghostly warrior. He doesn’t mind that life is a fight because he enjoys it. We find out that he and his former best friend were tricked by a fortune teller and he was “framed” for the murder of his best friend’s sister. The two find a way to make amends after his friend is brought to the non-fiction world and the truth is told. Yuuya’s journey from thug to hero makes him a really interesting character.
6.Rui Kanoya
Rui is a child soldier in a future Japan who pilots a giant robot “Gigas Machina” in the anime Monomagia: The infinite Over Machine/Infinate Divine Machine Mono Magia. He is constantly thrust into battle and never really gets the chance to be a kid. When we are first introduced to him he has a tantrum about being forced to fight in the Gigas Machina, a potential tip of the cap to Shinji from Evangelion, who was also forced to pilot a large robot. Unlike Shinji, Rui does become a likable character. We watch him slowly get the childish thinking out of his system as he come to terms with the world that he has been dropped into. Rui also thinks that Yuuya Mirokuji, another character and a bit of thug, is really cool and looks up to him. We see that as a calming influence on Rui since Yuuya always approached battle and life with a calm joy. Rui really just wants to be a kid. He does say one of the most insightful things in the series: “People who save the world exist because there are worlds that must be saved. Who is going to make those worlds, Souta?”
[ad_middle]
5. Setsuna Shimazaki

Setsuna is an illustrator and the creator of Altair. She was a high school student with a gift for art. Setsuna wasn’t a confident person and posted her art work under a pseudonym online. The online artistic community was where she met Souta Mizushino, the protagonist of Re:Creators. We see in a flashback that their relationship begins with mutual admiration for each other’s art work online. The two eventually meet in real life and are both equally shocked to see a fellow high school student. She and Souta hit it off and it is hinted that they each have romantic feelings for the other. She gets an amazing opportunity to create a video with a popular producer, bringing her notoriety. Setsuna also eventually attracts online trolls and detractors that hound her online, unjustly accusing her of plagiarism. Souta, unable to take criticism himself, backs away from and abandons her, afraid that their friendship will bring the bullies to his door. She gets depressed, and in her depression, creates a character based on a character that was maligned by the online community and imbues her with great power. The isolation, the criticism and the sense of abandonment eventually becomes too much for her. Setsuna kills herself. The emotion of the moment triggers Altair to break free of the fictional world and visit punishment on our world to get revenge for the person she loved most, her creator.
4. Alicetaria February
Alicetaria is a knight in every sense of the word. She is literally an epic hero as the lead protagonist of the manga and anime Aliceteria of the Scarlet. She is brash and headstrong and came to the world of the gods as an ally of Altair. She was enraged that the people fighting battle after battle, losing lives and taking lives in defense of her homeland were nothing more than entertainment for the gods. She goes into battle astride a Pegasus and carries an enchanted lance. She wants revenge and to force her creator change the rules of the world and bring peace. Alicetaria has a quick temper and tendency to focus on actions and not words. She becomes the ally and friend of her exact opposite, Mamika the magical girl. Her relationship with Mamika shows that she has the ability to think, rationalize, and understand once her warrior’s blood stops boiling. She is also extremely loyal. Her relationship with Mamika is also about not judging someone by appearances. Mamika may not look like a warrior, but seems to be just as brave and tough as any knight she’s faced. This change in Alicetaria’s perspective gives her a chance to uncover the reality of what is actually going on, and it’s all thanks to her friendship with a magical girl.
3.Blitz Talker
Blitz may have one of the more interesting backstories in the show. Blitz is a tall, muscular man with a long trenchcoat and a grizzled look. He is a character who shows up early in the series as an ally of Altair. Blitz is a bounty hunter character from a cyberpunk anime named Code Babylon. He fights his way through a dystopian world though never fully described it seems to a very tough place to live. He joins forces with Altair for revenge. Blitz wants to take revenge on the god, a manga artist named Suruga, for killing his daughter. It’s a move that Suruga admits was just to move the plot along. The story for Blitz continues to unfold with some twists and turns and the shifting allegiances of those on the side of the gods and those on the side of Altair.
2.Souta Mizushino
Souta is the main protagonist of Re:Creators and, as with a lot of the characters, has a pretty interesting story. He is not a normal main protagonist because he isn’t he is a great warrior, he doesn’t have great ability and he isn’t a genius who can save the day. It’s his weakness that created the crisis and his struggle for redemption that makes him the protagonist. Souta is a second-year high school student with a little talent for art. He began posting his art online and through the community met a truly talented artist named Setsuna Shimazaki. She too was a high school student. The two hit it off and support each other in their artistic endeavors, they even could have been “dating,” although that isn’t expressly said. Setsuna eventually began to gain popularity and that is when things went downhill. She was criticized on the web by trolls and falsely accused of stealing ideas from another artist. Souta wasn’t brave enough to stand up for her and lets her get more isolated until she commits suicide. Souta carries the burden with him, the idea that he could have saved someone he loved if he had just been a better human being. He could have saved her if he hadn’t cut her out of his life. He was a coward and it cost Setsuna her life. Souta is constantly on a mission to atone for that weakness, a weakness that led to Setsuna’s greatest creation, Altair, gaining a life of its own.
1.Altair / The Military Uniform Princess

Altair is the antagonist of Re:Creators. She is the creation of Setsuna Shimazaki. Altair was based on Shirosumekusa, a girl from a social game. She was a weak secondary character who was disliked by many. Setsuna took the innocent and weak character of Shirosumekusa and clad her in a military style, creating a look of strength. She appears in an online video called Altair at some point after Setsuna’s suicide. Altair is very different from the other characters that appear in the world of the gods. She knew from the beginning that she was a creation. Her story was also different; in a way, she was crowdsourced. She didn’t belong to one story. Her creator was gone and she was left to evolve online as other artists and storytellers changed and added to her story. Altair is the complete opposite of the person who created her. She is strong and willing to take on the world, by herself if need be, damning any consequences. You could also view her not as Setsuna remaking the weak character of Shirosumekusa, but as a woman striving to create a stronger version of herself. Altair is a character created with such a strong sense of will she was self-aware. She was given the ability to alter the reality of the world of the gods, blending the world of fiction and nonfiction as a way to work through the grief from the loss of her creator. Altair was able to achieve sentience be being accepted by the same world that rejected her creator.
Conclusion
The concept that artists put a lot of themselves into their work is put into practice in Re:Creators as we see the creators’ trauma have a lasting effect on their creations. The story leaves us wondering if, to paraphrase Lewis Carroll, are we the dream or the dreamer? Are we creations of someone else living in a world where we watch anime and read and write articles about it? We had the chance to ask Ei Aoki, the director of the series, if he’d want to meet any of the characters from anime he’s been involved in and he said “If it was possible I would like to meet them all, actually, and I’m pretty sure some of them have a grudge against me.”

Who it Caters to

Are you tired of some of the more popular MOBA games out there? Want to play a 2D multi layered MOBA with a colorful cast of characters? Then developer CWAVESOFT Inc has your game with Hyper Universe. Fight on 4 vs 4 battles in several different game modes and try to capture the enemy base. While Hyper Universe may be 2D, players will be able to switch lanes by jumping up or down between different ladders, springs and teleporters. With anime-like visuals and 28 playable heroes—knowns as Hypers in game—Hyper Universe aims to blow you away!
What to Expect

Hyper Universe plays out in a comparable manner to most MOBA games. Players choose different characters with different abilities and try to destroy the enemy base. The different concept with Hyper Universe is that unlike most traditional 3D based MOBA titles, Hyper Universe goes for a side scrolling set up. Players can go between different lanes via different means which gives Hyper Universe an unique feel. With some amazing art and an impressive OST, Hyper Universe will offer players a more exciting MOBA experience than the competition.
[ad_top2 class="mt40 mb40"]
Story

Hyper Universe tells the story of different warriors taken from different dimensions, planets and worlds. These warriors must battle it out to show who the strongest competitors are. Each warrior, or better known as Hyper, has a different reason for wanting to do battle. Though at the end of the day, all that matters is the beautiful taste of victory and the groan inducing feeling of defeat. Which of these conclusions will be your fate? Choose a hero and begin to do battle in Hyper Universe!
Gameplay

Every generation, something semi-annoying occurs in the video game world. As a game genre gets popular, hundreds of companies begin to copy the idea of said popular genre leading to hundreds of clones. While some are amazing, most are forgettable and or just a plain waste of time and money. That’s why we here at Honey’s Anime were a little worried when we had Hyper Universe from developer CWAVESOFT Inc come across our tables for us to review. However, as we always give games a fair and unbiased examination, we went into Hyper Universe with an open mind and a ready controller. Here is our review of Hyper Universe.
Right away, upon picking up Hyper Universe, we knew what to do. Why you may ask? The simple answer is because Hyper Universe is a MOBA through and through. This worried us at first but after the first few matches, we saw something interesting about Hyper Universe. Let us talk about what makes Hyper Universe stand out from the other games like it.
While most MOBA titles—in this case, we’re thinking of SMITE and League of Legends—are 3D based with open ended paths and or top down views, Hyper Universe is instead a 2D based side scrolling MOBA. While there are still lanes like in most MOBA titles, Hyper Universe has different lanes on different levels which is a neat idea and makes the two available maps feel big—though sometimes too big—and not overly similar. This means players can find a number of ways to attack their enemies such as going down and then finding a ladder to go back up and behind them or using the warp points in game to find turrets under attack and appear in for a hopeful surprise attack. It really keeps the MOBA elements that are needed in check for Hyper Universe all while not making Hyper Universe feel too caught up in the formulaic approach most MOBA games take. Now, let us move on to the actual gameplay of Hyper Universe.
Being a MOBA title, Hyper Universe relies on the typical approach in terms of gameplay. Players choose one of the 28 Hypers, gear up before each match begins—or use auto spec—and begin their onslaught. Players need to take out enemy cannons and clear a path to the next cannon and eventually reach the enemy base. However, as with almost all MOBA games out there, going straight in will get you killed so you need to explore the map, look for enemies and enemy players to level up, gain new equipment level ups and then you can begin working your way to the end. While this sounds almost contradictory to our statement about Hyper Universe changing up some themes, we did mention only some and for a MOBA game this formula of gameplay always works best.
Now with any MOBA title, the various characters you use need to be fun and allow strategy on the field. Thankfully, that’s one thing that shines brightly in Hyper Universe. Each of the Hypers plays pretty different from one another and their various skills can lead to some very intriguing strategies. One of our favorites was Cain—who looks too much like the MC from Persona 5 but we’ll mention that again soon—who acts as a vampire and assassin in many ways. Not only is Cain able to heal himself with his various attacks but he can actually buff his teammates regardless of where they are on the field leading to some hilarious moments when a teammate goes from slightly losing a fight to flat out winning. Zet is also a personal favorite as his design allows players to get up close and personal with various debilitating attacks and skills. Each character has the same ideas as games like League of Legends such as several attacks and an ultimate but in Hyper Universe, most feel really diverse and not just a typical.
Visually, Hyper Universe is incredibly impressive. Characters have a very anime inspired theme—though that shouldn’t be a surprise seeing as how this is published by NEXON America Inc—and the visuals of attacks as well as the environments match. The same can be said of the epic OST which made us play with our headphones on while in other MOBA titles we usually listen to our own music. Hyper Universe is easily one of the better visual and sounding MOBA games in comparison to other titles and that is a wonderful thing going for it. Now, with that folks, let us finally delve into the few issues with Hyper Universe.
Hyper Universe isn’t a perfect game though there are no games that are truly perfect. One of our small issues is with something we mentioned earlier, character designs. Cain, for example, looks like the Persona 5 MC and some of the characters like Turner, Jennifer and Kurenai look ripped from games we’ve played in the past before. It’s not a huge issue, mind you, but it almost makes a fun game to have people try and guess what game that person looks ripped off from. Kurenai, you look a lot like Taki from the Soul Calibur series, just saying. Besides that though, as with most MOBA games your enjoyment will be based on how much you love the MOBA scene. Hyper Universe does a lot different in terms of style and ideas but equally it still adheres to the MOBA mechanics set before it which we can’t blame it for, why fix what isn’t broken. Honestly though, all of these issues are more minor flaws and not enough to stop us from saying the pros outweigh the cons.
[ad_middle class="mt40 mb40"]
Honey's Gameplay Consensus:

The MOBA world has become increasingly more popular in the gaming landscape. While that’s a good thing, as we get to play more MOBA titles, that also leads to hundreds of clones of games like League of Legends and SMITE. Luckily, that doesn’t apply too heavily to Hyper Universe. There’s enough in Hyper Universe to feel unique and give the game a charm that other MOBA games just don’t have. While it has its minor flaws here and there, as a whole for the low price of $15.99 and the fact you get so many Hypers to play as, Hyper Universe gets a thumbs up for those who need a newer MOBA title to enjoy.
Honey's Pros:
- Very impressive graphics
- Nice variety of playable characters
- Tons of strategy to learn
- Amazing OST/ Voice Acting
- Simple to play
- Fun in game story
Honey's Cons:
- Map designs are a bit too large
- Doesn’t reinvent the MOBA game too much
- Controller play is a bit too sensitive in terms of movement
- Some of the characters look overly inspired from other games (Cain for example)
Honey's Final Verdict:

Hyper Universe was quite a surprise to us here at Honey’s Anime. We have played our fair share of MOBA titles and most tend to be fun but typically end up the same at the end of the day. While Hyper Universe doesn’t change the MOBA scene in every shape and form—which does hurt it a bit—the impressive visuals, unique side scrolling gameplay, the jaw dropping soundtrack and ton of different heroes does make Hyper Universe one of the better MOBA titles we’ve played in some time. What are your thoughts on Hyper Universe? Scroll down and drop a comment so we can hear from you beautiful souls out there on the web. Tokyo Game Show 2017 Business Day Interview: Demon Gaze II Developers Hajime Chikami (Experience Inc.) & Juntaro Kohno (Kadokawa Games)

Tokyo Game Show 2017 has come to an end but the excitement that came along with it continues to resonate in our souls. During the illustrious gaming event, our Honey’s Gaming correspondent Bombon had the wonderful opportunity of sitting down with celebrated developers Hajime Chikami and Juntaro Kohno, the spectacular minds behind the renowned dungeon crawler title Demon Gaze II. These two were the masterminds who ushered in the dungeon crawling genre to Japan and made it the world renowned genre that it is today. We tickled their brains to see just how they came up with the concept, and what their future plans were with not only the Demon Gaze brand, but other promising projects they had in store for fans.

[gray-hex-decoration]
Why the name ‘Demon Gaze’?
At the beginning we thought hard about the theme of the game, and we came up with this concept where the beings within the game were demons, who weren’t necessarily human but didn’t have any evil intentions either. They sort of fit snuggly between the two in existence. There are characters who are able to control these particular demons and those characters are known as Demon Gazers, and so, the point was to figure out how to use ‘Gaze’.
We thought about using ‘Gazer’ but it came off a bit childish, sounding a bit too much like something out of Kamen Rider. We wanted to retain the idea of Gaze, reinforcing the power these beings had to destroy enemies and so between ‘Gazer’ and ‘Gaze’ we ultimately went with ‘Demon Gaze’.
What inspired you to create Demon Gaze?
Experience (gaming company) has created many games over the years, and we often created robotic type characters. So we wanted to create a title where robotic female characters would battle against each other. However since much of our portfolio revolved around creating dungeon crawling based titles, we thought the best way for our ideas to become reality was to focus on sticking to what we knew best and thus, Demon Gaze was created.
With the gaming market growing at such a rapid pace, both domestically and internationally, how do you stay current with the competition?
The term ‘Competitive’ is something a little hard to define. We started off with the PlayStation 2 then gradually moved to the PS3 then PS4, and eventually there will be a 5 at some point. One thing that remains consistent however is the cost of development is growing larger. Honestly, we (Kadokawa Games and Experience Inc.) just can’t battle against the bigger companies with much larger budgets or something of that scale. For us, something we can control is the playability, especially how good the game feels as you play it. The other is the overall style of the game and so, focusing on these two factors help us to maintain our competitive edge in the industry.
For the playability aspect, that’s where Experience Inc. comes in because they’ve had years of experience creating dungeon RPGs, and from the style point of things that’s where Kadokawa comes in to add their flavor to the game. We believe that with the combination of these two parts the Demon Gaze series will continue to grow its fan base now and well into the future as well.
From Experience Inc.’s standpoint we want to ensure that whatever title we release is at the same level as other titles on the market. So the issue that arises once again is that we can’t put enough funding into the title, so the area we want to drive home the most is “how can we make it different? What spin can we put on this game that makes it different from our competitors?” This is the challenge that we’ve confronted with from the beginning of the development process up until the very end. We never stop coming up with ideas to really make sure we stand out in the way we truly desire, and that’s our edge.
That’s true passion!
*laughs* Certainly, passion.
As a gaming otaku (I went to school to study game design), I understand the challenges that you face as you go through the process of development. What do you do to overcome challenges (character modeling, designing, programming, etc)? How do you free yourself from all of that?
*laughs* Most definitely passion right? It’s definitely looking back at the process of the game and paying attention to the aim of what the game should be for those that play it. As you mentioned, there’s a lot of difficulties that arise during the development stage such as delays and so forth, so we always go back and forth during the process to ensure our ideas stay on track and maintain the integrity we initially planned for.
Making games is much more fun than playing them because, during the creative process you can imagine your customers and focus on what will make them happy, what they’ll enjoy. Of course, there are a ton of various difficulties to tackle during game development but, the fact that we can focus our attention on the customers and implement things that we feel our fans will enjoy is what makes designing very rewarding. That’s our main motivation to keep going.
Is there any advice that you’d give to aspiring game developers?
There are various motivations that come into play here and they differ from person to person. For some, it’s “I can draw” or “I can program” and so, they focus to make games like that. However, the thing about making games is that it’s a collaborative process and it involves a group of people. So rather than just saying “Ok, I can do this particular thing so I’ll continue doing it”, it’s really important that you put your attention on something that perhaps you’re not able to do. Search for other people who possess skills that you yourself don’t have because at the end of the day, making a game once again is a collaborative effort and so the teamwork aspect of game creation is pivotal. So please focus on that.
Nowadays, people who want to venture into the industry are most likely into games. We’re now at a point in the industry where there are so many options to choose from pertaining to consoles, genres, and various ways to play. I suggest that you play various types of games because it can help to widen your perspective. We’ve had individuals come into our office with very little experience outside of their comfort zone, so it’s encouraged to expand and not limit yourself. Broaden your perspective, this is key.
What would you NOT recommend to do for aspiring game developers?
Don’t get TOO involved in games themselves as you may miss out on the bigger picture moving forward. Focus on other areas as well since games aren’t the only things that exist. This is very important when wanting to take on the leadership role because it’s vital for you to have a strong understanding of what else is out there. Knowing all about the various industries out there along with learning the rules and manners that go along with working in this industry will be of great benefit to you in the long run.
Be able to explain WHY you enjoy something. Too often I encounter people who say “I like this because oh a lot of people bought it” or “It won this award!” and that’s not a very good justified reason to explain properly why it is you like something or dislike something. It’s very important to get your point across in an accurate way and learn that skill as you move forward.
Demon Gaze II has become a very successful title in Japan for cultural reasons. So what is your main mission to achieve the same success to serve overseas fans?
(speaking from Demon Gaze to Demon Gaze II) Needs certainly are different between regions, but what we found to be a big factor was the difficulty curve from the original Demon Gaze. That was the general feedback that we received relating to the title on both sides (Japan/Overseas), and so we wanted to address that issue in Demon Gaze II. What we did then was due to the difficulty dramatically ramping up in Demon Gaze, we tried to focus on implementing a more gradual increase in the difficulty as players advanced through the game. Personally, we didn’t feel like it was poor game design because naturally, games are meant to grow in difficulty as you play. However what we did was, since there are players who do love that challenge, we had to address their needs as well and that’s where the Yagyu Dungeon comes in.
So in Demon Gaze II we added a bonus dungeon for the people who really want that hardcore experience so that way, both fanbases are rewarded with something they can enjoy. Whether you like the slow gradual increase or the in your face difficulty, both are now available for you to choose. The games you actually end up beating are the ones that stay in your memory, not the ones where you give up halfway. That’s where our focus was set towards, allowing players to have their experience resonate over the long term.
Rather than focusing on “Stairs” (relating to game difficulty), we wanted focus more on a slope. It’s all about getting the player to reach the end and one thing that connects that difficulty is the story, so that players can see their way through the game. For Demon Gaze II, we wanted to make sure that the story was really good and drives the player to reach the end game.
What did you focus on more, the story or the gameplay?
I’d have to say both but I feel people will praise Demon Gaze II’s story more than anything. The original Demon Gaze took place in the countryside and there wasn’t really anything pertaining to the incident that pulled at your heartstrings to create an emotional attachment. So we thought for Demon Gaze II, changing the location would certainly be of benefit, so instead of the countryside, we went with the city. There’s a huge plot behind the main character as you join forces with a revolution against the government and by doing so, you lead these people in the city into something bigger and better. The game is about to release in the west very soon so I’m not sure how people will receive it since we’ve made these changes. There’s a little trepidation revolving around that, but we hope our fans will enjoy the experience and enjoy what we’ve done with the story.
The scale and the scope of the story is a lot bigger than the first Demon Gaze, and it was really important to us that players can beat the game this time around. In Japan, the Yagyu Dungeon portion of Demon Gaze II came out a month later for the Vita as free DLC but not many people downloaded it which was unfortunate for us. That part of the game adds so much more overall appeal so this time, for the western release we’ve made sure to add in the Yagyu Dungeon DLC right from the beginning so that we can see just how our fans respond to the gameplay. It adds so much more depth and narrative so we encourage fans to play the post game content to truly experience Demon Gaze II to the fullest.

I’d really like to emphasize that if you’ve never played a DRPG before and you’re new to the genre, Demon Gaze II is the perfect place to start. Even though it’s the second game in the series, it’s built so that you don’t really have to play through the first game to understand or appreciate what’s going on. It’s a game for anybody to enjoy and I really hope you give it a shot. I also hope that those who like a more hardcore experience will really enjoy our post game content and sink their time into it. Please enjoy it!
I totally agree with Chikami-san here. One other thing to point out is that even though there’s a II in the title it’s still a brand new experience since you’re in a new environment, with a fresh plot and a new direction. Also with the post game dungeon, it takes place within the same events that occurred during the first Demon Gaze, so you receive a call from the characters in the first game asking for your help. So you actually are able to go back to the first game without really having to play through the first in its entirety. So it’s actually a great segway to start with Demon Gaze II and travel back to the first one to gather information about what transpired.
Wrapping up the Interview
Thanks once again to Alan for translating the interview in a very thorough and accurate way, and of course a big thanks to both Kohno-san and Chikami-san for taking the time to answer our questions in a meaningful and insightful manner. We wish all the best to the two of you and of course wish Demon Gaze II becomes a success overseas as you dreamed. We’re proud of your efforts and hope that the two of you continue to spread your love and passion for gaming all around the world for many years to come.

Who it Caters to

Pharaonic is a side scroller that incorporates a lot of themes found in the Dark Souls series. Players will take their warrior and go forth trying to learn about a powerful pharaoh named Ahmosis I. Use various weapons and tools to survive against various threats and learn from failure if you should die. Pharaonic is for those who want a side scroller that is both tough but rewarding. Though like in Dark Souls, be ready to die…a lot.
What to Expect

Set in an Egyptian landscape, players of Pharaonic will be greeted to large landscapes with tons to discover and fight. Pharaonic offers players numerous ways to play such as using heavy armor that impedes movement but allows you to become defensively strong or light armor that allows for spry movement but at the cost of being easy to kill if an enemy should land too many hits. Pharaonic plays a lot like Dark Souls with death being more of a learning tool than a punishment and that means those who like a challenge should get ready for one. With a 10+ hour campaign, players can find not only the main story to enjoy in Pharaonic but can also dabble in side quests as well. Pharaonic aims to bring a new challenge to those who think side scrollers are too easy.

Gameplay

Here at Honey’s Anime, we like games that are tough. While some may consider this is a masochist ideal, we just think of it as making a game rewarding and fun to play. That’s why one of our favorite gaming series here at Honey’s Anime is the Dark Souls series. Tough, brutal and always rewarding, games like Dark Souls have always peaked our curiosity and made us run to our consoles or PCs to play. Thus when we heard of Milkstone Studios’ Pharaonic we thought this might be an interesting game for those need a break from the 3D medieval setting of Dark Souls and want something set in Ancient Egypt. What did we think of our time with Pharaonic? If you’re curious then read our thoughts in our review of Pharaonic.
Pharaonic is literally Dark Souls in almost every shape and form, that is an important statement to get out of the way. In fact, if you go to develop Milkstone Studios’ site and read the front page they even admit they were going for a Dark Souls feel in Pharaonic. This is both a blessing and a curse to Pharaonic as it removes some of the originality of it and also puts itself as a title that will be judged based on its various uses of themes and gameplay found in Dark Souls. Though before we just judged the whole game let us first talk about the gameplay and then move on from there. As the famous saying states, “every journey begins with the first step”.
It won’t take more than five minutes of playing Pharaonic before you realize this plays out like Dark Souls in numerous ways. Combat consists of light attacks and heavy attacks and players can even dodge and parry in equal measure. When your health is low, you drink from a canteen which is similar to the flasks in Dark Souls. Luckily Pharaonic uses this design well and the controls feel solid. Attack, dodging and even using magic all feel good and like Dark Souls can’t be spammed thanks to clever in game mechanics such as stamina and MP. Though at times we wished drinking from the canteen was quicker as it often led to our deaths when we found ourselves in dire need of healing.
Like in Dark Souls, Pharaonic’s idea of dying are also similar. If you die, you lose out on some of your experience and are forced back at the last shrine you stayed at. This is a mirror image of Dark Souls’ bonfire system but it works for what it is. Speaking of experience, unlike Dark Souls players level up and just see their stats increase such as health and stamina. Pharaonic really pushes equipment and weapons on your character and that in turn is your means of feeling stronger and weaker in equal measure. Are you the type of player that loves hitting hard? Well then, equip heavy armor and weapons but watch as your character moves slowly and is quick to drain of stamina. Likewise, if you’re into faster movement you can equip light weapons and gear but will do less damage and be easier to kill. Pharaonic may have copied a lot from Dark Souls but it did it in a smart way.
One thing we also loved about Pharaonic is the Ancient Egypt setting. Environments look great and have a cool cartoon-ish shading to them. The character models though are at times a bit weak and seem to be repeated time and time again. A little variety would have helped Pharaonic a bit but with the 10+ hour story it isn’t a deal breaker. Let us also mention some of the boss fights are pretty cool especially later in the game.
Alright we here at Honey’s Anime love to talk about games in the most positive light possible but as with any form of medium, there is always bound to be a few issues. Pharaonic is a solid game and there is a lot to love but we feel it really tried too hard to copy Dark Souls. While the setting and various mechanics aren’t all a clone of the Dark Souls series, most of Pharaonic is and that keeps it from being its own game. Another issue we have is sometimes combat can feel a bit stiff and that is regardless of what weapons you use. In the early game this can lead to numerous deaths but once you level up enough and gain better gear it becomes less noticeable as you’re just harder to kill. Plus, while there are tons of areas to explore and find, unlike the more open world of Dark Souls, Pharaonic feels confined and linear. These are small issues though and overall won’t be enough to turn away every player of Pharaonic by any means.

Honey's Gameplay Consensus:

We mentioned a lot that Pharaonic it’s like Dark Souls in many ways and while that is true that isn’t a terrible thing. Developer Milkstone Studios clearly loves the Dark Souls series and tried to mimic the best elements of it while giving it their own spin in Pharaonic. For the most part, this worked out well as the combat, setting and gameplay are pretty enjoyable. For the low price of $15.99, Pharaonic is easy to recommend to those who love games like Dark Souls and want a challenging but fun side scrolling RPG. While it may not have the most enjoyable story ever—though it’s not bad either—Pharaonic is a 10+ hour game worth the price of admission.
Honey's Pros:
- Tough but rewarding gameplay
- Impressive visuals settings
- Different playstyles to enjoy
- Awesome boss designs
- Unique Ancient Egypt theme
Honey's Cons:
- Maybe a little too much like Dark Souls
- Combat can feel a bit off early on
- Drinking flasks takes way too long
- Forgettable story
Honey's Final Verdict:

Milkstone Studios put themselves in quite a predicament. From the gate, they decided to ty and mirror a lot of elements from the Dark Souls games in Pharaonic which means it was going to be put to the test when people both reviewed it and played it. Luckily we here at Honey’s Anime think Pharaonic isn’t a bad game by any means and is actually a rather enjoyable title. For the price of $15.99, Pharaonic won’t break your bank and thus is easy to recommend if you like games like Dark Souls but want a slightly different setting and overall aesthetic. Now then folks, what are your thoughts on Pharaonic? We’re curious to hear.
