Most anime characters have some way of relating to the audience, even the craziest ones! We’ve talked about a few of the most beloved insane characters in the past, but we thought it was about time we updated our list with a few other members. Each of these characters is drawn to conflict and blood, yet they also have a strangely endearing side that makes us want to keep watching… You’ll never know what they might do next!

5. Shuu Tsukiyama from Tokyo Ghoul

[sourceLink asin="B00LGK4JX2" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" July 2014 – September 2014 " post_id=""]

Despite originally joining Ken Keneki’s group with the intention of eating him, Shuu Tsukiyama came to genuinely care for Keneki. He considers himself to be a fashionable and elegant gentleman, though his taste is sometimes questionable. Tsukiyama has a flamboyant personality, one which does mellow out over time in the series. Yet with all his appearances, Tsukiyama’s outward tendencies hide a cruel and selfish nature, with emotional outbursts and little understanding toward the emotions of others. His personality worsened during his period of depression, causing violent outbursts, but he matured quite a bit over the course of the series, thanks mainly to Kaneki.

4. Rosarita Cisneros “Roberta” from Black Lagoon

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="4091571891" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" April 2006 – June 2006 " post_id=""]

Roberta is a fearsome fighter and quite formidable, despite her initial appearances. Yet from the start, her devotion to her master and his son, Garcia, is evident. She cares for her master and his family so much that when they are harmed, she reverts into her past murderous self, even losing her sanity and the ability to tell between friend and foe. Roberta has killed countless people in the past, having been trained as a guerilla member of F.A.R.C. before she came into the Lovelace family’s employ. She would do anything for her young master Garcia, including executing revenge!

3. Junko Enoshima from Danganronpa: Kibou no Gakuen to Zetsubou no Koukousei The Animation (Danganronpa: The Animation)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="NEOGDS-93254" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 13 " aired=" July 2013 – September 2013 " post_id=""]

A sadistic and enthusiastic participant in the dark competition of Hope Peak Academy’s class, Junko Enoshima revels in despair above all else. She is easily bored and tends to drastically alter elements of her personality, specifically her emotional state, to hold her apathetic nature at bay. Junko comes across as a rather unique individual at first, one who is often opposing her classmates, but her truly erratic personality is revealed later on. She wants the entire world to feel nothing but despair and it’s impossible to reason with her in this regard. Junko does not hesitate to manipulate or kill anyone, including her loved ones–after all, hurting the ones closest to her will cause her the greatest despair of all!

2. Tokushirou Tsurumi from Golden Kamuy

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="NEOBK-2193723" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" April 2018 – June 2018 " post_id=""]

Tokushirou Tsurumi is the 1st lieutenant for the 7th Division, having fought bravely in the Russo-Japanese War, though he left the battlefield with shrapnel in his head and a growing bitterness in his heart. He desires the lost Ainu gold in order to fund his own Division’s needs, as he wants to take over Hokkaido, believing his militia to be wrongfully treated after the war. Tsurumi is able to identify with other people and manipulate them to his own ends, though his calm and charismatic appearance belies the savagery within. He cares deeply about the men under his command, but beware; if you betray Tsurumi or end up on the wrong side of the fight, he will show you no mercy!

1. Sato from Ajin (Ajin: Demi-Human)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="https://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-935829/ajin-demi-human-discussion?pg=3" ]
[Information episodes=" 13 " aired=" January 2016 – April 2016 " post_id=""]

With a calm and cheerful appearance hiding the depravity within, Sato is easily one of our favorite crazed characters! He has a playful approach to life-and-death situations, viewing these only as obstacles in a sort of hard-mode video game. Sato is an Ajin, giving him the ability to act out his psychotic killing without really worrying about his own welfare, as he knows he will always revive in the end. He is also charismatic enough to draw others to him, creating a terrorist group acting out under the guise of Ajin asking for human rights.

Final Thoughts

These characters may have psychotic tendencies, but their unpredictability makes them that much more entertaining to watch. From manipulating others into doing their dirty work to executing cold-hearted decisions on their own, we can’t get enough of these crazy characters! What do you think of the characters on our list? Which one of them is your favorite? Let us know what you think in the comments section below!

yuno gasai

Ever wonder what it takes to make it onto a list of pure, unadulterated psychosis? Well you have to be full of the abnormal, thoroughly caught up in the pain and suffering of others to the point of pure ecstasy. You have to be so messed up that everyone that sees you can’t look past how utterly and undeniably screwed up you can be. Your obsessions control your life, your every action. These are the criteria for making it onto a list of severely messed up characters, and without any over-dramatizations, here’s my list of characters you just need to see to believe!

5. Shion Sonozaki from When They Cry (Japanese: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni)

[imageCharacterWithAnime character='mion sonozaki' anime='When they Cry']

Define demented, and that’s what you get from this show. Everyone dies, no one lives. At one point or another you see a terrifying side of the main characters, but none stood out to me like Shion did. Her intense pressure, the absolutely horrific crazy eyes and just everything about her psychotic persona is terrifying. To explain why she became psychotic, she was in love with Satoshi and blames the Three Families of Hinamizawa for his disappearance. Because of her grief of losing the boy she loved, she manifested a sadistic personality (one could even say demonic) and began a killing spree to end all others. This is definitely a character to see when you’re in the mood to feel better about yourself, because it doesn’t get much crazier than this!

4. Accelerator from A Certain Magical Index (Japanese: Toaru Majutsu no Index)

[imageCharacterWithAnime character='Accelerator' anime='A Certain Magical Index']

Being the most powerful psychic in Academy City; so much so that he has to consciously allow gravity to affect him, Accelerator isn’t someone to mess with. Mix these facts with a sadistic personality and you’ve got a recipe for disaster. He’s even changed the direction of blood flow in the body of another person, ultimately killing them. He took part in an experiment to become the world’s first level 6 ESPer. Because there were only 6 other level 5’s known, he was tasked with killing 20,000 level 3’s (which he did so willingly, happily even). What do you say about a boy that is more than willing to murder 20,000 people to become stronger? You say that’s a deep level of psychosis.

3. Berg-Katze from Gatchaman Crowds

[imageCharacterWithAnime character='Berg-Katze' anime='Gatchaman Crowds']

Berg isn’t your normal “regular person” crazy; (s)he’s on an entirely different level of sadism. His/Her main goal is to turn everyone in the universe against each other, ultimately killing themselves. He/She acts androgynous, meaning you can’t tell what gender (s)he is, all you know is that doesn’t matter at all. With the power to transform into anyone that Berg kisses, they’ve disguised themselves before to frame people for all types of crimes. What puts Berg on the list of psychotic characters isn’t just because they’re crazy: it’s how crazy. To never get their own hands dirty, but force others without them knowing and the master level manipulation, it’s a psychological fan’s dream!

2. Yuno Gasai from Future Diary (Japanese: Mirai Nikki)

[imageCharacterWithAnime character='yuno gasai' anime='mirai-nikki-DVD']

Yuno is quite possibly the most insane character I have ever personally seen out of any anime. She goes beyond psycho-murder crazy (she’s that too), but also has stalker and kidnapping in her repertoire. An obsession with the main character Yukiteru and even twisting his vision on more than one occasion. She stops at nothing to be with “Yuki,” meaning she has kidnapped and strapped him to a chair before. Feeding him and even helping him use the bathroom, she never allows him to leave the chair. Coupling this obsession with the knowledge that they’re in a dangerous game of “kill the rest,” she shows her true colors on more than a single occasion. She murders anyone that gets in the way of her being with Yuki, going so far as being prepared to kill his mother if she dislikes her. She’s gained this insane level of psychosis from the actions of her own mother, who locked her in a cage whenever she felt like. Not being allowed to leave her cage, she’d be forced to urinate and even defecate all over herself, oft times going without food. This is a textbook level of obsession that would have psychologists busy for years trying to figure out just what exactly they would need to do to help her.

1. Liang Qi from Canaan

[imageCharacterWithAnime character='Liang Qi' anime='cannan DVD']

This is an exceedingly fun character to see, mainly because she doesn’t always appear as crazy as she seems. At least not until you find out just how obsessed she is with her commander, who she refers to as “Onee-san” (older sister). In a fight she has with her commander (Alphard), when she gets cut she screams, “It hurts… It hurts sister, more, make it hurt more!” Tell me that’s not crazy. Throughout the entire series she’s shown to be highly unforgiving with an all too devoted attitude towards Alphard. Her obsession brings her to do these unspeakable acts, with the face of a madwoman and the smile of a killer.

That finishes my favorites list of psychotic characters! If you have any other recommendations please leave them in the comments section below and tell us what you think! Believe me when I say, there’s always time for a little bit of crazy in our lives.

Top 10 2018 Anime You May Have Missed! [Best Recommendations]

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="NEOGDS-299827" text="" url="" ]

There was so much amazing anime in 2018 that no one can blame you for not being able to make time for every show worth watching. That said, we’re going to pile more onto your plan to watch list by exploring ten anime that you may have missed from the past year. Some of these anime are hidden gems of character development and storytelling, while others are just entertaining popcorn shows that appeal to the lowest parts of your brain. But they all deserve their time in the spotlight, so let’s give them a look!

[ad_top2 class="mt40 mb40"]

10. Killing Bites

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="GNXA-2042" text="" url="" ]
[en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="12" item2="Aired" content2="January 2018 – March 2018" post_id=""][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Episodios" content1="___content1___" item2="Emisión" content2="___content2___" post_id=""][/es]

So, this one definitely falls into the “lowest parts of your brain” category rather than the “masterful storytelling” one, as you could probably tell by looking at it for two seconds. But Killing Bites is still worth your time – it may be a stupid fanservicey action show, but it’s just so good at being a stupid fanservicey action show that we can’t help but love it. The premise is that a group of fighters who can transform into and use the powers of various wild animals all try to kill each other in a massive battle royale tournament. Its surprisingly brutal fights are a joy to behold, and there’s no way we can get mad at an anime where a pangolin man punches a hole straight through a crocodile man’s chest.

9. Hinomaruzumou (Hinomaru Sumo)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="https://www.crunchyroll.com/hinomaru-sumo" ]
[en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="24" item2="Aired" content2="October 2018 – currently airing" post_id=""][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Episodios" content1="___content1___" item2="Emisión" content2="___content2___" post_id=""][/es]

A sumo sports anime? It sounds a little odd, but sumo is such a big deal in Japan that it’s a wonder how we never got a mainstream show like this before now. It stars a hotheaded high schooler named Hinomaru Ushio, who sets out to revive his school’s almost nonexistent sumo club so he can shoot for the highest rank in the entire sport, despite being too small for anyone to take him seriously. It’s a pretty boilerplate plot a shounen anime, but the characters are so lovable and the story is so earnest that it hardly matters. After all, a familiar story done perfectly is sometimes better than attempting originality and failing in the execution. Plus, this anime is a fun and entertaining way for people to learn all of the ins and outs of sumo wrestling! If you’re curious about the sport, give Hinomaru Sumo a try.

8. Happy Sugar Life

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B07FDH9R7Q" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="12" item2="Aired" content2="July 2018 – September 2018" post_id=""][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Episodios" content1="___content1___" item2="Emisión" content2="___content2___" post_id=""][/es]

Admit it, you’ve legitimately enjoyed at least one true crime show in your life. They may be trashy and gruesome, but the psychology behind why someone would kidnap or kill another person is too fascinating not to explore. Happy Sugar Life takes that morbid curiosity to a whole new level with its story of a seemingly sweet teenager named Satou who keeps a child trapped in her apartment for her own amusement. Satou is the “caretaker” (kidnapper) of an idealistically cute and innocent little girl named Shio and uses the isolation of her apartment to bend Shio to her will. It’s a disturbing picture of how children can be taken advantage of by adults who don’t have their best interests at heart, and the full implications of what Satou could be doing to Shio are sure to keep you up at night.

7. High Score Girl

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="NEOBK-1963749" text="" url="" ]
[en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="12" item2="Aired" content2="July 2018 – September 2018" post_id=""][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Episodios" content1="___content1___" item2="Emisión" content2="___content2___" post_id=""][/es]

If you have a special place in your heart for old-school arcade games, High Score Girl is right there with you. It takes place in the arcade renaissance of the early ‘90s and the characters compete using real games from the time, such as Street Fighter II and Bomberman. The odd CG animation could be a turn off for some viewers, but it works well for this simple story about two rivals trying to one-up each other at retro video games. You’ll love their adorable budding romance just as much as you already love the nostalgic games they’re playing!

6. Hug tto! Precure (Hugtto! Precure)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="PCBX-51762" text="" url="" ]
[en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="49" item2="Aired" content2="February 2018 – January 2019" post_id=""][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Episodios" content1="___content1___" item2="Emisión" content2="___content2___" post_id=""][/es]

If you’ve never seen a Precure show before, the latest season Hugtto Precure is a fantastic place to start. Our protagonist Hana is plucky and cute, the Cure team forms naturally over the course of the series with characters who develop in realistic ways, and the shonen-style melee fights are back with a vengeance! For returning fans, we even get a few appearances from other Cures outside of the team-up movies! Witnessing these new heroes fight alongside the original magical duo from 15 years ago is everything we never knew we needed.

[ad_middle class="mb40"]

5. Gaikotsu Shotenin Honda-san (Skull-face Bookseller Honda-san)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="https://www.crunchyroll.com/skull-face-bookseller-honda-san" ]
[en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="12" item2="Aired" content2="October 2018 – December 2018" post_id=""][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Episodios" content1="___content1___" item2="Emisión" content2="___content2___" post_id=""][/es]

With only 12 episodes at 11 minutes long each, it won’t take you long to fully enjoy this gag series about a long-suffering manga bookstore manager (with a skull for a face because... sure) and the excitable nerdy customers he has to deal with every day. It gives us a refreshingly hilarious look at how our own culture affects the hapless normal people who don’t understand our passions. Honda-san does love manga, but his constant stressful encounters with fujoshi foreigners and overzealous niche fans with seemingly endless money to spend leave him exhausted and begging for peace. We’re sorry, Honda-san, but your pain gives us life!

4. Grancrest Senki (Record of Grancrest War)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="ANZX-14161" text="" url="" ]
[en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="24" item2="Aired" content2="January 2018 – June 2018" post_id=""][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Episodios" content1="___content1___" item2="Emisión" content2="___content2___" post_id=""][/es]

Like Killing Bites and Hinomaru Sumo, Grancrest Senki takes an overused premise (in this case, a JRPG-inspired fantasy epic adapted from a light novel) and executes it so well that it elevates the idea to new heights. And, shockingly enough, it’s not an isekai! Apart from the likable characters and interesting storyline, the most notable element of this anime is its fight scenes. They’re fluid, gorgeous, and never lose momentum, thanks to some standout direction from Shinichi Omata. Grancrest Senki is the perfect show for JRPG fans who can never get enough high intensity action in their entertainment.

3. Mo Dao Zu Shi

[en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="15" item2="Aired" content2="July 2018 – October 2018" post_id=""][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Episodios" content1="___content1___" item2="Emisión" content2="___content2___" post_id=""][/es]

Translating as something akin to “The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation”, this anime is adapted from the Chinese web novel and manhua of the same name. We’ve had plenty of exposure to Japanese history and mythology by now, but Mo Dao Zu Shi gives us a beautifully animated and scored crash course on Ancient China. The story follows two wanderers named Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian as they bicker with each other, solve problems for the locals, and start to fall in love. The shounen-ai element isn’t as strong in this adaptation as it is in the source material, but for those of us who enjoy a little queer representation, it’s a welcome addition.

2. Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru (Run With the Wind)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="TBR-28402D" text="" url="" ]
[en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="23" item2="Aired" content2="October 2018 – currently airing" post_id=""][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Episodios" content1="___content1___" item2="Emisión" content2="___content2___" post_id=""][/es]

Sports anime is firmly rooted in its comfort zone of high school athletics, but Run With the Wind takes a bold step forward by setting its story in the mythical land known as... college! And it’s not just a superficial change, either. Differences in age, major, and upbringing play a significant part in the characters’ interactions with one another. The writers have clearly invested a lot of hard work into developing each and every member of the Kansei University running team. They all have their own struggles to bear, opinions of the other members that affect who they make friends with, and goals that they wish to achieve. From the typical sports anime narrative, it really is a breath of fresh air!

1. Yagate Kimi ni Naru (Bloom Into You)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="ZMXZ-12661" text="" url="" ]
[en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="13" item2="Aired" content2="October 2018 – December 2018" post_id=""][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Episodios" content1="___content1___" item2="Emisión" content2="___content2___" post_id=""][/es]

Speaking of queer representation, the most underrated anime of this year has to be Bloom Into You. It’s a charming tale about two teenage girls struggling to realize that they’re actually in love with each other since one is blinded by the societal narrative of a perfect bubbly romance and the other feels trapped in her identity as the unflappable upperclassman. Lesbian relationships in Japanese culture tend to be brushed off as a phase that girls go through before they move on to “real” love as adults, but Bloom Into You makes sure to treat Yuu and Touko’s relationship as legitimate. There are also other adult characters in homosexual partnerships, so this is a pretty big step for anime. Overall, it’s a heartwarming show about two people who discover who they are by learning to love someone else.

Final Thoughts

Shows like Aggretsuko and Banana Fish might’ve gotten lost in the shuffle in other years (thanks to being on Netflix and Amazon Strike respectively), but luckily, 2018 was so terrific that anime fans sought out these gems anyway. We hope that you’ll do the same for these 10 shows that didn’t quite reach the public’s eye, but deserve your attention regardless. What did you think of our list? Even though we mostly watch anime in Japanese, the emotional core of the show can break through the linguistic and cultural barriers to hit us right in our heart. And comedy is extra difficult to translate, but if the original work has some savvy writing behind its jokes, we’ll still be clutching at our sides regardless of the language. Today, we’re taking a look at the five funniest moments in 2018 anime—those scenes that still pop up in our brain many months later and make us giggle in public. Let’s reflect on them and laugh all over again!

5. Death Metal Karaoke from Aggressive Retsuko (Aggretsuko)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="NEOBK-1952756" text="" url="" ]
[en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="10" item2="Aired" content2="April 2018" post_id=""][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Episodios" content1="___content1___" item2="Emisión" content2="___content2___" post_id=""][/es]

Sanrio is well known for its cutesy and childish mascot characters, with Hello Kitty as its poster girl. So what’s all this about them making a show about a 20-something lady working a stifling office job? How could they use their iconic kawaii style to tell a story like that? And then the shy little red panda shuffled over to a karaoke bar, pulled out a microphone, and started belting out death metal at the top of her tiny lungs. It was at this point in the first episode that we realized what Aggressive Retsuko was: a self-aware comedy that aimed to explore young adulthood through the lens of something childish that we all grew up with. It’s the anime Avenue Q!

4. Overzealous Yaoi Fangirls from Gaikotsu Shotenin Honda-san (Skull-face Bookseller Honda-san)

[en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="12" item2="Aired" content2="October 2018 – December 2018" post_id=""][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Episodios" content1="___content1___" item2="Emisión" content2="___content2___" post_id=""][/es]

Poor Honda-san just wants to manage his bookstore in peace, but the never-ending streams of nerds who come to browse the manga selection keep him on his skeletal toes 24/7. Our favorite scene comes from the first episode, where Honda-san tries to help foreign customers with yaoi recommendations. After nearly expiring on the spot from attempting to explain what a yaoi doujinshi is to a clueless American man shopping for his daughter, a group of fujoshi foreigners asks him for help with choosing boys’ love books. His panicked declaration of “This muscley guy is uke!!” will never get old.

[ad_middle class="mb40"]

3. The Kancho Duel from Chio-chan no Tsuugakuro (Chio’s School Road)

[en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="12" item2="Aired" content2="July 2018 – September 2018" post_id=""][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Episodios" content1="___content1___" item2="Emisión" content2="___content2___" post_id=""][/es]

Chio can’t seem to walk to school even once without stumbling upon some crazy scenario or another. In episode 7, she bumps into her friend’s little sister, Chiharu, who treats kancho (jamming fingers up people’s butts) like a deadly serious martial art. Soon, the two are embroiled in a shounen-style duel – complete with auras of power, bombastic dialogue, and supersonic clashes that can barely be seen with the naked eye. It’s over-the-top in the best possible way and only ends when the gym teacher taunts Chiharu by sticking out her lovingly drawn butt and daring her to attack. Umm... did we mention that this author used to make hentai?

2. The Torture Dance from JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken: Ougon no Kaze (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind)

[en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="39" item2="Aired" content2="October 2018 – currently airing" post_id=""][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Episodios" content1="___content1___" item2="Emisión" content2="___content2___" post_id=""][/es]

You can’t be a gangster without a sick sense of style, especially when you’re in the notoriously fabulous JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure series. Characters mostly tend to show off their effortless coolness with elaborate clothes and gravity-defying poses, but episode 7 of Golden Wind shows us another way to flex your style – dancing! While torturing an enemy gangster for information (by burning his eye like it’s an ant under a microscope), three members of Bruno’s gang spontaneously burst into a choreographed hip-hop dance with a funky tune and trippy visuals to back them up. It doesn’t really make any sense or come up again, but that almost makes this random display of swag even better!

1. Hoshiiro Girldrop Fakeout from Poputepipikku (Pop Team Epic)

Nobody really knew what to expect with Pop Team Epic, but this ditsy idol anime wasn’t it. For the length of an entire opening scene and theme song, the first episode of Pop Team Epic plays out as a cloyingly cliché idol/school romance show... until Popuko tears through the title card and yells “Not!!” This moment showed us the lengths that Pop Team Epic was willing to go to mess with our heads. They even continued the Hoshiiro Girldrop “storyline” in the next episode previews each week! Popuko’s fourth-wall-breaking entrance let us know that this anime would be unlike anything we’d ever seen before.

Along with these five moments, we also loved that surprisingly funny scene in Attack on Titan season 3 when Historia tells Eren to stop acting like a victim and help out already. You tell ‘em, girl! No pity parties in Historia’s house. What did you think of our list? What was your favorite funny anime moment from this year? Let us know in the comments, and thanks so much for reading!

Ape Out - Launch Trailer

Who it Caters to

Sometimes you just know deep down that something’s meant to be great, and that’s the exact feeling we got when Ape Out was announced. At first glance, it looked like your typical top-down beat ‘em up, but as you dive deeper you start to see how engrossing it all is. Ape Out is a rhythm-infused brawler that incorporates dynamic jazz-inspired percussion to every beatdown you encounter throughout the game. It’s unlike anything we’ve experienced in a video game, so if you’re hungry for a new procedurally generated, action-packed, merciless ape-escape experience, then look no further than Ape Out.

What to Expect

If our previous paragraph didn’t entice you enough, there’s plenty more to be excited about. First off, Ape Out is available for both PC and Nintendo Switch, and while the PC version certainly performs slightly better, the Switch version is the quintessential go-to pick since you can take it with you on the go. Pommel guards into oblivion, use them as shields from incoming gunfire, all while this jazzy tune creates this flavorful ambience to give you a truly wild experience. While the gameplay provides a satisfying feel, it’s really the music that delivers and helps to sell the gameplay more in the end. There’s just something about smashing a body against the wall, only for the percussion to be perfectly synchronized the very moment they make impact. It’s funny, it’s outlandish, but most importantly it’s engaging. Not one moment are you ever feeling worn out by all of the action because every stage provides its own challenges, with guards becoming more strategic in their approach and you having to be more creative on the fly. We’ll dive more into the gameplay section later, but we hope this has given you a taste of what’s in store.
[ad_top2 class="mt40 mb40"]

Visuals

Visually, Ape Out is quite different since its focus isn’t to try and mesmerize you with flashy gimmicks and drawn out cutscenes. It’s very blunt and straight to the point, using sharp colors to emphasize the amount of brute power this ape has, especially when you smash guards against the wall and see them pop like when you hit an annoying mosquito on a hot summer afternoon. It’s ripe and full of vigor, simple yet articulate, and it executes it graciously with a smooth framerate that never drops from start to finish. It’s by no means a game changer but in motion it looks very seamless, and when accompanied by the incredible music selection, it meshes together beautifully. Even the small details like when the ape gets shot, and you see the trickle of blood trailing behind him in this very bright orangey color, really shows the devotion put into creating artistic piece of work.

Sound, Music

You can clearly tell that a lot of emotion and energy was put into creating the sound aspects of the game, because quite honestly it’s what truly sells the game. We’re not saying that the gameplay is lackluster by any means, but when paired with the sharp and ear-piercing percussions and invigorating jazz-samples, Ape Out becomes a totally different beast. It’s as if the world was vividly imagined just through sound alone and then the team just plopped the ape in the game for more impact. Imagine if life were like that, where if let’s say you swiftly kicked someone in the back of the head and having this group of percussionists playing it all out like some sort of narrative. OK, we’re going a bit too far with the imagination, but you get what we mean. Ape Out delivers in this area brilliantly and doesn’t disappoint.

Gameplay

Ape Out is all about the escape and trying to avoid being hunted down by the guards that surround you. While it all sounds very straightforward on paper, there’s still an element of strategy that needs to be implemented in order to get the best experience out of the game. The first few stages were admittedly a bit easy, and we assume this is the case so that players can get accustomed to the gameplay without feeling too overwhelmed. However, things do start to go ape sh%$ when you’re introduced to new guards who have stronger guns, and you’ll need to react fast otherwise you’re red paint. It’s not just about crushing skulls and smashing windows, it’s also about being a tactician and knowing when to avoid enemy contact. You can of course rambo your way through it all and call it a day, but sometimes the game will trap you and you’ll need to make sure your reactions are on point. Enemies don’t just stop and walk away after you’ve been seen; they will continue to hunt for you, so if you’re not careful you may run into someone and receive your death sentence. It’s all about balance and knowing when to approach and when to just simply run out of harm’s way, because ultimately the game is about escaping and not so much sending souls to the next dimension. Everything also is procedurally generated as we mentioned earlier, so every experience will be different every time you do succumb to your injuries.
[ad_middle class="mt40 mb40"]

Honey's Gameplay Consensus:

That’s the best part about Ape Out and why we highly recommend trying this game, because there’s never a time when things feel the same. Of course the gameplay remains intact, but not knowing what to expect every time you die is a thrill in of itself. You might think that one enemy is still in the same place as before, only to realize they’re gone and now your approach needs to change. That in itself is the fun aspect about Ape Out, so try it out and see how far you can go!

Honey's Pros:

  • Amazing soundtrack that just keeps the energy flowing as you play.
  • Smashing guards to bits is very satisfying.
  • Lots to explore and discover since everything is procedurally generated (music and gameplay).
  • Smooth framerate from start to finish.

Honey's Cons:

  • It would’ve been cool to add in some online features like leaderboards to entice players to see how far they can go.
  • The loading screen did take some time, which was unfortunate.
  • Ape color customization would’ve been cool too.

Honey's Final Verdict:

Despite the loading times and lack of online features, Ape Out is still a wild and fun single-player experience that’s fast-paced and rewarding. We do hope you found this review to be exciting read, and that you show your love by leaving a comment down below (or else we’ll bash your head against the wall!). All jokes aside, shoutouts to Devolver Digital for this opportunity and be sure to follow us along with Devolver Digital on social media! Until next time... On The Way to Becoming a Yokozuna!

Introduction

  • Episodes: 24
  • Genre: Shounen, Sports
  • Airing Date: October 2018 - March 2019

[ad_top2 class="mt40"]

Hinomaru Zumou Preview (No Spoilers)

Ushio Hinomaru loves sumo wrestling. He loves it so much, he’s going to a high school, or at least planning to, that specializes in it. When he gets there though, the school is in shambles, run by delinquent students, and the sumo club has a mere 1 member, Shinya. Putting his skills to the test, Ushio accepts this school and challenges the main leader of the students to a battle. After winning, one by one, he wins over others to become members of the club and push forward. Towards what, you may ask? Why the high school sumo wrestling competition, of course.

Ushio Hinomaru Highlights (Spoilers Beyond This Point)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="https://www.crunchyroll.com/hinomaru-sumo" ]

1. Ushio Isn’t Your Basic Shounen MC

One of the basic setups of shounen anime is that you need that super powerful main character who, by some fluke and the alignment of the sun, moon, and starts, is blessed with ultra-powerful skills, reflexes, or talent. Unlike those, Ushio is serious and works very hard. He has trained to make his body strong even though he is slow. Ushio charges forward with such vigor and zeal that it is refreshing to not see someone cocky, but passionate. Ushio has to be a breath of fresh air in this anime world.

2. He’s Got a Unique Move Right Out of the Starting Gate

Usually with most shounen main characters, they have some powerful skill or another that they unlock at some point, usually in the beginning, that will give them the edge that their team/party/friends needs. With Ushio, his is already built in. In fact, he spends episode 12 and 13 purely refining it and how to make it even better under a former yokozuna. He wastes no time in using it and whips it out fast to win. He may be small, but he can rumble with the big boys.

3. A Black Hole

Ushio, surprisingly, does not stop eating. The whole high schooler loving food thing is blown right out of the water and we see it when the team goes for Yakiniku. His teammates get full fast but soon, he realizes that he needs to keep eating to get bigger and just throws back plate after plate inspiring his teammates to do the same. This leads to them being banned from the restaurant at the end. He later loses his mind in Nagoya and wants Tokai food. Known for being unique, Tokai food is some of the most delicious in Japan and Ushio knows he’s got to have it while he is there.

4. He’s Dedicated

If anything, Ushio is not a quitter. Even when he is staring loss in the face, he pushes on and keeps going. This allows him to excel even more at what he is doing and learn from his losses. Kind of like a child who doesn’t know when to quit, Ushio will fail. No problem. But you better believe that he is going to analyze it hardcore as soon as he can.

5. Ushio REALLY Likes History

This was a unique setting that makes for a very interesting, well-rounded main character. Ushio really knows his stuff. We see this as he spouts off stats and names of prominent sumo wrestling figures, but you really get a sense of what he can do in Nagoya. When a teammate improperly names the builder of Nagoya castle, Ushio not only corrects him to remind him that it was Ieyasu Tokugawa who built it, but it was his 9th son who did it! The 9th! Most people can’t name 9 leaders in the world, but Ushio knows this much and in such detail. Amazing.

Hinomaru Zumou is leaving a smile on our faces for all the right reasons. The series is interesting, Ushio isn’t generic by any means, and the series gives us ALL OUT!!, another beloved sports anime, vibes. The series is great and we look forward to watching weekly. The devil returns to its roots

Who it Caters to

Devil May Cry had a long rest these last few years. Capcom gave the Devil May Cry reins to Ninja Theory for a brief respite, but they took those reins back giving fans what they truly wanted, a new main Devil May Cry title. Devil May Cry 5 offers just that to fans—and possibly newcomers—but did Capcom evolve with this newest title or did they make a weaker game in comparison to DMC? We here at Honey’s Anime have our answer, but for you to know, you’ll have to scroll on down to read our full Devil May Cry 5 review. This is one review you won’t want to miss folks as we had plenty to say in Capcom’s latest outing for the Devil May Cry series!

What to Expect

Devil May Cry 5 is a third person action/adventure game where players take the role of Nero, Dante and new comer V. Players will need to face off against an army of demons as they try to stop a powerful being from being revived. Take control of each hero and use their incredible arsenal of weapons and skills to defeat the demons and save the world…even if that isn’t Dante and Nero’s main intention. Devil May Cry 5 brings the series back to its route by removing a lot of the elements from the spin off title—DMC—and focusing on delivering a similar game to that of Devil May Cry 4. With several heroes to control and numerous abilities to obtain as well as difficulties to overcome, Devil May Cry 5 might be gearing up to be the biggest of the series hands down!
[ad_top2 class="mt40 mb40"]

Story

When Dante and his team are finding themselves broke and in dire need of funds, they receive word that they have been hired to defeat a new demon coming back to power. What should have been an easy buck turns into a nightmare as Dante and his crew find this demon more powerful than expected. Even with Nero and a mysterious new ally named V in their arsenal, the team suffers a defeat that makes them pay a heavy price. Nero and V survive the outing and now aim to save Dante and his allies with their upgraded abilities. However, can they face off against this new threat? Find out in Devil May Cry 5!

Gameplay

Way back on the PS2, Capcom released Devil May Cry to the world and it was met with a lot of love and admiration. Players assumed the role of a white-haired demon hunter—who also was part demon himself—named Dante who rocked twin guns and a large sword named Rebellion. Devil May Cry would find a fandom and several sequels would release, including a more recent spin off by the development team known as Ninja Theory. DMC—the spin off—was disliked for its reimaging of Dante and his world but was praised as one of the slickest of the series totting amazing gameplay mechanics that were just a pleasure to enjoy. Now in 2019, Devil May Cry 5 brings Dante, Nero and their compatriots back to the series roots but is that a good thing after the greatness that was DMC? We are about to find that out as we review Devil May Cry 5 for the Xbox One! Devil May Cry 5 is a third person action/adventure title where players control Nero—the primary hero from Devil May Cry 4—as they enter a new mission to save humanity from a very powerful demon. Similar to Devil May Cry 4, Devil May Cry 5 has players going from not just one hero but several with the introduction of a new warrior named V. While combat has returned to the series origins with a heavier focus on nailing combos just at the right time—DMC did this with an emphasis on chaining combos—the gameplay has certainly been enhanced in comparison to 4. This is ultimately a good thing for Devil May Cry 5, but it’s also where we noticed some issues here and there. As always though, our review will focus on the good first and then talk about the bad. Working in favor of Devil May Cry 5, gameplay is overall a lot more refined than 4. Nero—for reasons we won’t spoil—has lost his demon arm infused with Yamato, Vergil’s sword, and now must rely on a mechanical one made by new female to the scene, Nico. This mechanical arm gives Nero new abilities as each arm you gain as the story progresses gives different skills to Nero’s arsenal. You still have Nero’s trusty sword that revs up giving it enhanced power but with the new mechanical arms, players can unload new skills onto enemies like homing rocket arms or even electrical punches. This gives Nero a wider range of motion in comparison to Devil May Cry 4 where he was focused on bringing enemies to him for combat purposes. As we mentioned earlier, Devil May Cry 5 also stars a new fighter in the form of V. V isn’t like most Devil May Cry warriors though; he doesn’t have a giant sword or weapon and he doesn’t fight himself. V actually summons demons—three to be exact—to aid him in fighting enemies and he must stand back to only be used as a killing blow on enemies depleted of their health bars. V is akin to a mage in Devil May Cry 5 where players need to unleash his two servants—a crow with ranged moves and a panther that can attack with close range moves—to deal out damage. V’s summons have a weakness though as they can get hurt and need V to be either near them or using his magical tome to regenerate their powers and replenish his devil trigger. Unlike Nero who lacks a devil mode, V has one and can summon a third beast—a golem-like entity—for more punishing damage and moves. V is a great addition to Devil May Cry 5 and plays quite well once you learn his distance play style. Rounding off the cast we have the main anti-hero himself, Dante. Now If you’re a fan of Dante’s play style of switching between four style modes then we have good news and bad news. The good news is that Dante in Devil May Cry 5 is once more just as awesome as he once was returning with new weapons and abilities while retaining his signature Gunslinger/Royal Guard/Trickster/Swordmaster forms, but you won’t get to see our red-jacket wearing hero until later in Devil May Cry 5. When you do finally get to play as Dante, he returns to a playstyle akin to Devil May Cry 3—our favorite Devil May Cry title—which means fast combos and special moves. Dante is still the best warrior of the series, but sadly, he’s like a sweet treat. You’ll have to wait till dinner is mostly over before getting that treat you want. If we were to wrap up everything we said so far, it would be this; Devil May Cry 5 plays quite well. Controls are responsive with a feeling akin to Devil May Cry 4 and Devil May Cry 3. While Ninja Theory’s DMC had a solid gameplay system that we will miss, Devil May Cry 5 learned from its past flaws and truly made a stellar action system that removes a lot of the outdated elements from the main series. Even items—which were a boon in most Devil May Cry titles—have been changed in Devil May Cry 5. You now can purchase Gold Orbs to revive a fallen character with full points or can use Red Orbs—the series currency—to revive with various percentages based on how many Red Orbs you wish to use. Red Orbs still act as a means of buying new skills and items from the store—Nico’s van is hilarious by the way and you’ll understand once you call upon her—but you can also use real money to nab Red Orbs a bit faster. Don’t worry haters of microtransactions, in Devil May Cry 5 you don’t need to spend a single dollar to upgrade Nero and his pals to full level. It just helps speed the process up if you don’t have time to grind out Red Orbs. Lastly, another amazing element to Devil May Cry 5 are—hands down—the visuals. Devil May Cry 5 uses the RE Engine—the Resident Evil engine—for its graphics and you can tell in almost every faucet of the game. Nero, V, Dante, Nico and the other cast all look a lot more realistic with facial animations that change depending on their actions or movements. The world setting also looks more genuine with distorted takes on subway systems and small city streets. The RE engine was a great choice to enhance Devil May Cry 5 to its fullest but we did notice that the realism came at a bit of a price. During some cutscenes, we experienced framerate drops and strange lag. It never affected actual gameplay—thankfully—but when Nero was fighting a massive boss for a cutscene we were shocked when he began to slow down as the game struggled to keep its beauty in check. Now, as much as we loved Devil May Cry 5, we also have some minor issues. Initially, we had a lot of issues with Devil May Cry 5 due to our readjusting to the series older style, but we began to welcome the change as we played through the lengthy story. The problem though with Devil May Cry 5 comes in the form of gameplay with its three playable heroes. Nero—as the main man in Devil May Cry 5—gets a considerable amount of game time and even with his new abilities we can’t help but wish Dante was back in the seat as the main character. We love Nero and his voice actor—shout out to Johnny Yong Bosch—but his style still feels more akin to a playing as heavy warrior in a video game. Nero has quick moves and boasts a considerable amount of skills but he plays heavier than Dante and with less style then V. In regards to gameplay, Devil May Cry 5 also feels a lot heavier in comparison to DMC. While DMC had Dante move like an elegant ninja with super combo chains and moves, Devil May Cry 5 is slow and more like an elegant knight in full armor. Dodging feels rough—with an exception to V—and attacks have a bit too much weight to them. V and Dante feel lighter due to their play styles but due to Nero being the prominent hero, you’ll have to learn how to time dodges and moves quickly or even the best combos will get you killed as your health depletes from too many blows. Does it ruin Devil May Cry 5, heck no, but it makes Devil May Cry 5 feel like the 4th title and many didn’t like 4 in comparison to 3 or DMC.
[ad_middle class="mt40 mb40"]

Honey's Gameplay Consensus:

Devil May Cry 5 has some issues here and there, but if you look at it against 4, you’ll see that Devil May Cry 5 is several steps in the right direction. With three heroes to play as Devil May Cry 5 never feels repetitive despite some of the concepts repeating—go here kill this and then do that again—which is always good for any action/adventure title. Visually, Devil May Cry 5 looks incredible and stands as the best looking of the series—and its spin off—hands down. Devil May Cry 5 still has a ton to do as well with various difficulty modes, secret missions to find/conquer and an update that will include the bloody palace—the survival mode staple from the series—post release. Devil May Cry 5 was a blast to play and we can’t stop playing it even now as we type. We want to conquer everything and upgrade our heroes fully before putting Devil May Cry 5 to rest. If you’re a fan of Devil May Cry proper and/or love action titles, you owe it to yourself to pick up Devil May Cry 5 when it releases this March 8th. Devil May Cry 5 is a great game that is almost perfect even if it doesn’t feel that way initially.

Honey's Pros:

  • Nero and his pals all play quite different giving players several play styles to enjoy
  • Combat feels like the best of 3 and 4 mixed together
  • V is a welcome addition to the Devil May Cry series
  • The RE Engine makes Devil May Cry 5 look incredible
  • Great story that we held back spoiling as much as possible for a reason

Honey's Cons:

  • Combat can feel a bit too heavy when playing as Nero
  • Framerate issues during some cutscenes (at least on the Xbox One version)
  • The music was hit or miss as we played

Honey's Final Verdict:

Devil May Cry 5 might be less like the impressive DMC spin off, but that doesn’t mean this title lacks grace. Devil May Cry 5 plays incredibly well and while it misses some notes here and there, it’s still an incredible title. We are excited to see what Capcom can produce in Devil May Cry 6 as we think they know what to do to make the next title the perfect action/adventure game of the series. Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari (Tenchi Muyo! War on Geminar) Plot (No Spoilers)

An exciting extended OVA series, this show aired for an entire year dropping one massive hour long episode every month as it released in Japan. The Tenchi Muyo! franchise has been one of the most well-known harem comedies in anime history. Tenchi himself has seen his fair share of returns and reboots over the years, but the franchise has had more than a few spinoffs. War on Geminar is one such as these. Set in a parallel universe, it tells the story of an unknown younger brother called Masaki Kenshi who has found himself in the fantasy world of Geminar. He eventually comes to serve to Princess Lashara who promises to help him search for a way to return home. After encountering a mysterious cult which tried to use his otherworldly powers to pilot a Sacred Mechanoid, he has to keep his origins and abilities a secret. Kenshi follows the princess to an elite academy which trains pilots of these war machines and begins to find a new life in Geminar. Thus begins an epic tale filled with endless girls, mecha action, and comedic hijinks.

What Makes It Tenchi Muyo!?

While none of the classic characters or factions from the mainline series are in this, as it is a parallel universe, the classic staples of the series hold true. Masaki Kenshi is every bit of the ladies’ man as his older brother, if not even more so. Kenshi meets a host of female characters in his new world as individuals with his power are more typically women while men are few in number, giving him all the more rarity in Geminar. Aside from the harem, the usual light-hearted but raunchy ecchi comedy is set to full blast in this series. While some of the more risqué humor was dubbed out of Tenchi Muyo! in the past, the humor is definitely in this one. There are also many cues back to Kenshi’s life on Earth that fans of the series will enjoy, piecing together what happened to the rest of his family.

A Refreshing Protagonist

While Tenchi was a bit more aloof in his encounters, Kenshi is adept at combat and never shies away from a fight. A few episodes in the series showcase a more Golden Boy type of slice of life aspect to them, as we see Kenshi win over the good will of his peers at his school. It’s in high contrast to the somewhat tsundere behavior of the women who know his secret, but it’s enjoyable seeing him stick things out. He’s a character you want to root for no matter what he’s doing.

Exciting Mecha Combat

One of the more surprising aspects of this series are the Sacred Mechanoids. They seem more organic than machine-like, almost as if they were EVAs from Neon Genesis Evangelion. The fighting is very entertaining when it’s introduced in the series, and it’s one of the few modern style anime that avoided having extensive CGI mech scenes in its run. While it’s not traditional mech designs or fighting in every sense, it was thoroughly enjoyable, and the ending fight is very Tenchi Muyo!

We highly recommend you check out this classic if you’re hungry for a new isekai mecha anime that will sate your harem comedy palette. Have you seen War on Geminar? If so what did you think? 10. Koharu Hidaka from High Score Girl

[information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="12" item2="Air Date" content2="July 2018 - September 2018" ]

High Score Girl is an anime about a boy and a girl falling in love with each other, while also constantly clashing to see who's the best video game player. At first, our main character Haruo faces the untalkative ojou-sama Akira Oono, but it's not until he meets Koharu Hidaka that we find a deserving suitor for him. While Akira is the perfect girl that every other boy likes, Koharu is exactly the opposite, and one can't resist that girl-next-door vibe. Koharu openly demonstrates her feelings and even grow a love for video games thanks to Haruo, though video games are not exactly new to her. Sure, he definitely is kind of dumb and innocent when it comes to love, but bear in mind we as viewers have a lot more information than Haruo. For any of us gamers, a girl like Koharu would feel as a dream come true, right? Too bad our boy Haruo is too concentrated on defeating Akira to notice her!

9. Chisa Kotegawa from Grand Blue

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="https://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-1022375/grand-blue-dreaming-discussion?pg=8" ]

Koharu is too young for you? Then let us introduce you to Chisa, a 20-years-old redhead that will drive you insane. While Chisa indeed has a beautiful body, she also has the brains since she studies mechanical engineering, spending her free time diving or trying other sports. In Iori's perspective, Chisa appears like a tsundere girl with an aversion for drinking and boys trying to hit on her, but we all know she's probably the most sensible and sane person in the Peek-a-Boo club. Still, we would be fooling ourselves if we don't assume the actual reason behind our love for Chii-chan, and that has to be her amazing body. Though her breasts are not the biggest when compared to the other girls on Grand Blue, Chise's oppai will undoubtedly take your breath away, even if her fine butt is what Iori loves the most. How could you not like a girl like her?!

8. Anzu from Hinamatsuri

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="https%3A%2F%2Fwww.crunchyroll.com%2Fen-gb%2Fhinamatsuri%2Fepisode-7-anzu-is-a-greeter-now-769309&psig=AOvVaw1n0YPWLZ37sgRCltfF9gwu&ust=1550890614579860" ]
[information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="12" item2="Air Date" content2="April 2018 - June 2018" ]

If you enjoy bad girls, then Anzu from Hinamatsuri could be the one! She's not actually a regular human but an esper, boasting incredible telekinetic powers. At first, Anzu was introduced as some kind of antagonist with the sole purpose of defeating Hina, but after losing to her, Anzu starts acting like every other girl who enjoys spending time with her friends, Hina included. Her bratty attitude only lasts a couple episodes, however, and as soon as she understands some basic rules about life, Anzu easily becomes the best character on the show. It's not about being sexy or seductive; she wins your heart by being the purest yet interesting soul, with a smile that you unquestionably wish to protect. We love this homeless girl! And we bet a lot of you love her too!

7. Red Saber from Fate/Extra: Last Encore

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="NEOGDS-309315" text="" url="" ]
[information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="10" item2="Air Date" content2="January 2018 - April 2018" ]

Speaking of baddies who may or may not kill you on sight, we can't ignore Saber, one of the popular servants in the Fate universe. However, this is not a representation of Arturia Pendragon (King Arthur) but Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus, better known as Nero, one of the most famous Roman Emperors. Deadly with her flame sword but too captivating to ignore her, Saber is the servant of Fate/Extra: Last Encore's protagonist, Hakuno Kishinami. If you're one of those in love with the sweet Saber from previous stories, then please take your time to discover Red Saber, a lovable spirit on the inside but an arrogant, misunderstood girl on the outside. Red Saber is so proud of herself that everything she does must be perfect, and lucky for us her face and body are perfect indeed! Still, we know that beauty may have an expiration date, but we'd love to hear her shouting "umu!" until the last of our days.

6. Takagi-san from Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="http://www.crunchyroll.com/karakai-jozu-no-takagi-san/episode-10-whos-taller-i-hate-the-cold-invitation-two-choice-question-759151" ]
[information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="12" item2="Air Date" content2="January 2018 - March 2018" ]

It's perfectly fine to have a waifu just because she's hot as hell, but we know some people fell in love with anime girls solely because of their personality and feelings. One strong case is Takagi-san, a school girl who does nothing lewd to call your attention but still makes you dream about a happily ever after. Takagi is a master teaser, always on the look for new ways to fool with you, and let us say her sweet voice, calm attitude, innocent look, enviable wits, and the most sweetly cruel intentions certainly do the trick. Maybe Nishikata's first reaction is not the best, but Takagi's flirting style is one that while unbearable at times, will definitely drive you crazy in a good way. We all have been there and done that as school kids, so there's a chance our love for Takagi has something to do with nostalgia too!

5. Yuzu Aihara from Citrus

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="http://www.crunchyroll.com/citrus/episode-5-under-lover-758993" ]
[information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="12" item2="Air Date" content2="January 2018 - March 2018" ]

Yuzu Aihara was a gorgeous gyaru with a strong fashion sense and a bold personality, doing everything she could to stand out from the crowd and conquer as many boys as possible. However, when her mother married for the second time, Yuzu moved to a new city and started attending a new school, so her life changed drastically. While she considered herself straight, it wasn't until meeting the school council president that she felt attracted by another girl, though things wouldn't be as easy as she expected. For starters, Yuzu worries a lot about her physical appearance, so seeing her with pretty clothes and makeup is a plus. But her natural beauty is something we can't ignore either! Regarding her personality, Yuzu may act like a total bimbo at first, but she matures slowly until she becomes a respectable young lady. If you like girl-on-girl action then fantasizing about Yuzu and her step-sister Mei is truly unavoidable, and something to keep you motivated!

4. Rikka Takarada from SSSS.Gridman

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="PCCG-70441" text="" url="" ]
[information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="12" item2="Air Date" content2="October 2018 - December 2018" ]

Why do boys and girls alike love Rikka Takarada? Well, we wouldn't be wrong if we said it's because of her cute and mature personality, but even though SSSS.Gridman is not an anime focused on ecchi stuff, we all love Rikka's looks. In fact, what stands out the most in her design is a particular part of her body, that curiously enough is not her face, chest or butt. With such almost invisible shorts, Rikka's legs are the sexiest thing in the anime world. Considering how anime tends to give us real skinny girls, her thick thighs are something to cherish. Sure, this is an anime about fighting kaiju, but even the main antagonist can transform into a sexy girl! Good luck there's also an episode with enough swimsuit scenes to satisfy our... curiosity. Sorry Yuta, but if we were to lose our memories, we would absolutely remember Rikka no matter what!

3. Violet Evergarden from Violet Evergarden

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="LACM-14712" text="" url="" ]
[information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="13" item2="Air Date" content2="January 2018 - April 2018" ]

Violet Evergarden, the anime, is one of those shows created mainly to please the eyes. Violet Evergarden, the titular character, definitely meets that requirement. The story certainly may feel dull for some people, but you can't say this gold-haired angel with porcelain skin doesn't have what it takes to become a top waifu in all its right. At first, she's like any other boring, generic robot-girls that also happens to be extremely beautiful on the outside. However, when human interaction does its magic, she becomes a far more interesting Auto Memories Doll, even capable of understanding and demonstrating emotions. Being out of touch with human feelings, most of Violet's interactions are awkwardly cute, and there's no doubt that it earns her many extra points. Are you in for a waifu who will put you to the test?

2. Zero Two from Darling in the FranXX

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="http://www.crunchyroll.com/darling-in-the-franxx/episode-7-shooting-star-moratorium-759587" ]
[information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="24" item2="Air Date" content2="January 2018 - July 2018" ]

If you're OK with robot-girls, then there's no chance you could say no to a half-alien girl, right? Weird as she is, Zero Two is the heroine of Darling in the FranXX, a highly skilled mecha pilot with a reputation for disregarding her partners' lives. You see, she had a rough childhood and was bullied for her looks, and so Zero Two isolated herself so as not to suffer, which resulted in her strange and rather harsh way of dealing with humans. The way a FRANXX is piloted is very sexual per se, and if we add that Zero Two doesn't have any kind of qualms when it comes to showing skin or flirting with her darling, then you'll understand why this girl is a ticking time bomb. However, when her human side comes to light, Zero Two definitely shines. She's sexy, she's cute, and remember she could also save you from invader aliens!

1. Mai Sakurajima from Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="http://www.crunchyroll.com/rascal-does-not-dream-of-bunny-girl-senpai/episode-10-complex-congratulations-778628" ]
[information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="12" item2="Air Date" content2="October 2018 - December 2018" ]

As it always happens when dealing with annual rankings, it's very easy to be seduced by those series and characters of the Fall season, that stays the closest in our memory. However, that's not the case for Mai Sakurajima, who has meritoriously earned the position as the best waifu of 2018. A notable model and actor, Mai was once extremely popular in Japan, but suddenly everyone began to forget about her until she literally became invisible to them. In an attempt to confirm that nobody really could see her, Mai attended the library in a sexy bunny suit, but little did she know that there was actually a guy that could indeed see her. To be honest with you, there aren't many reasons why this anime has a Bunny Girl reference in the title, but that scene was enough to show us how incredibly sexy Mai is. Fanservice for the win! Mai's love story with Sakuta makes us dream about being in his place at least for a day, enjoying cuddles and tantrums alike only to spend some time with her. If you don't mind dealing with the Puberty Syndrome and some personal drama, her inner and outer beauty will definitely feel like a blessing. Best girl of the season and best girl of the year, Mai Sakurajima is by far the waifu every otaku wants by their side.

Final Thoughts

So there they are, the 10 girls we loved the most in 2018 and the ones that will always have a place in our hearts. The good news is that some of these anime have already confirmed a sequel season or movie! And like we always say, 10 is never enough when it comes to anime series or characters that we like... especially if dealing with waifu material! Before closing this article, allow us to remember other girls that didn't make the cut, like Saki Nikaido from Zombieland Saga, the Red Blood Cell from Hataraku Saibou, or Silence Suzuka from Uma Musume: Pretty Derby. Are we forgetting your beloved waifu from last year? Let us know in the comments!

Gekijoban City Hunter Introduction

Tsukasa Hojo’s City Hunter is back and is retro-fitted for modern society! This time, Ryo and Kaori are hired by Ai Shinoda, a model/medical student who is being hunted down for reasons unknown to her shortly after the passing of her father. Never willing to say no to a beautiful woman, Ryo takes up her offer to protect her. Around the same time, Shinji Mikuni, a tech industrialist, is visiting Japan and he happens to be a childhood friend of Kaori, and becomes a romantic rival to Ryo. However, he has a hidden agenda of his own and wants to put Ryo’s combat skills to the test and take Kaori for himself!

What We Liked About Gekijoban City Hunter

As seen in American comics and animated shows that have been around for decades, their stories and characters can exist on a sliding timeline meaning they can be upgraded for modern society without having to age the characters, and this is done in Shinjuku Private Eyes. Not only does it include smartphones, tablets and drones, it does a great job of modernizing Shinjuku as well. For example, the movie shows the giant Godzilla bust that you can see at the center of Shinjuku’s Kabukicho entertainment district! Though the anime has changed with the times, the personalities and other dynamics of the original series remains the same.

Why You Should Watch Gekijoban City Hunter

1. Brings back the cast

Akira Kamiya is back as Ryo! He still has that high pitch when he screams “mokkori!” In addition, Kazue Ikura is back as Kaori, Tessho Genda is back as Umibozu, and Mami Koyama is back as Miki. As for Rui of the Cat’s Eye trio, due to the tragic passing of Toshiko Fujita just this last year, she couldn’t come back. However, Keiko Toda, the voice of Hitomi not only voices Hitomi, but takes over the role of Rui. As for Ai, Chika Sakamoto is back, too! As for Mikuni, he is voiced by Koichi Yamadera (most famous as Spike from Cowboy Bebop), and he actually played a large handful of roles in the original anime series.

2. Brings back the soundtrack

Not only is most of the original seiyuu cast back, this movie manages to bring back the songs from the original series! All of the opening and ending themes are used as fan service in a lot of the big action sequences. Though they don’t fit the atmosphere, it gets the job done in being a nostalgia trip for pre-existing fans. Last, TM Network’s Get Wild, the first ending theme of the series is once again used and the animation pays excellent homage to the original!

3. Finally Features some characters from the manga

Not only only does the original cast come back, this movie finally introduces some characters who were prominent in the manga but were never in the original anime! One character is the Professor, Ryo’s doctor, and is actually the main influence as to why Ryo is a pervert!

[ad_middle class="mt40"]
Why You Should Skip Gekijoban City Hunter

1. The Perverted Humor

With the rise of the #MeToo movement, it’s only natural for viewers to find Ryo offensive. He’s very open with wanting to have sex with every woman that attracts him, or tries to get a sneak peek whenever a woman is taking a shower. We understand that sexual harassment is a very serious issue and we can sympathize with people who don’t find Ryo funny in that way. On the other hand, he never gets to it thanks to Kaori always hitting him in the head with a mallet (and the weight depends, but expect at minimum 100t), or rolling him up and in a futon. He may be perverted, but he is capable of showing restraint when necessary.

2. Ryo is a Gary Sue

Due to Ryo’s superhuman abilities, he’s difficult to sell to audiences who haven’t seen the old anime or read the manga. He may not be Saitama from One Punch Man, but he has amazing fighting skills, superhuman reflexes, sharpshooting abilities, and can dodge missiles! The character is just meant to be cool and by no means is he someone you can further develop as an individual. Ryo as a character is simply who he is, and the only thing you can develop with him is his relationship with Kaori, which needs to stay the way it is just so their tension will always be there.

3. Could Have Used More Cat’s Eyes

We understand this is a City Hunter movie and not a Cat’s Eye movie, but we personally feel that the Cat’s Eye trio could have been used a bit more in the final act. Their introduction is appropriately timed and placed, but at the end of the day, their presence is merely fan service and doesn’t really add any substance to the story.

Final Thoughts

As to why someone superhuman such as Ryo can get repeatedly hit in the head from a mallet, Hojo recently shared on Twitter that it was Ryo’s own way of admitting that his perverted tendencies are wrong, and it’s his own way of expressing his feelings for Kaori. We hope that this movie paves way for a new Cat’s Eye anime in the future. In an age of retro, what better series than Cat’s Eye? As for City Hunter, this could be a gateway for new fans to see the old series but pre-existing fans will have a better appreciation and understanding of this movie since they know the formula. This is nothing more than a modern day extended episode, but it shows how City Hunter still holds up.

    • Over last weekend, a Gintama festival of sorts was held. At the show, there was an announcement that a new Gintama anime is coming... maybe?
    • According to the video below, a new anime has been ordered out of the sheer fact that the manga isn't technically done. The series ran briefly in Jump Giga before moving over to the Gintama app.
    • So while this new anime is maybe coming, it would follow up on the Gintama: Silver Soul Arc which finished March 2018. What is coming next? Who knows!

Souten no Ken (Fist of the Blue Sky): Anime vs Manga

    [sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="UPCH-89067" text="" url="" ]

Though the recent season to Souten no Ken: Re:Genesis ended rather conclusively, the manga is still in serialization upon the drafting and initial uploading of this article. While they do share some significant differences, the basis of their plots are still the same. Souten no Ken takes place 60 years before Hokuto no Ken, when World War II is starting to break out, and it highlights some actual events and portrays some actual figures. The main character is Kenshiro Kasumi, an unassuming professor at a women’s university who is actually the master of Hokuto Shinken, a martial art that allows him to make people explode upon pressing a certain pressure point. Upon receiving a message from an old friend, he must go to Shanghai to save an old friend and a former lover, and from there, the outcome of the war slowly enters his hands.

    Kenshiro’s portrayal

Kenshiro’s personality in both the anime and manga are pretty much the same though his journeys significantly diverge in both versions. Compared to his stoic nephew when he’s around people, the Kenshiro of this series has a very casual personality and has more of a sense of humor (and is a major chain smoker, which he says helps with his bleeding when he fights). Though the OG Kenshiro popularized man tears, the Kenshiro of Souten no Ken exhibits a wide variety of emotions in both versions and isn’t afraid of being friendly with those he cares about, or trash talking enemies for fun rather than just saying it for the sake that he’s going to kick their ass like it’s nothing. In addition, both the anime and manga version of Kenshiro share a unique sense of smell and retain their trademark lines such as “Ni yi jing si le” (aka Omae wa mou, shindeiru), or “monku ga areba, ore ni ie (if you got a problem, take it up with me)!” While Kenshiro suggestively dies at the end of the anime, his journey in the manga is still ongoing! In addition to Kenshiro still being alive in the manga, at the start of the Re:Genesis anime, Pan, his best friend dies. However, he never died in the original manga but is just permanently disabled instead. In both versions, Yuling, his sister and Kenshiro’s girlfriend, still takes over the gang. Last, his mother is actually alive in the manga and she plays a role despite being non-existent in the anime.

    Execution of the Action

What both the manga and anime also share in common in a foundational sense is how they portray the action. Though Hokuto no Ken, its respective predecessor emphasizes more on the gimmicky carnage and guts, the action in Souten no Ken largely focuses more on the technical aspects of the fighting like it’s a Kung Fu movie. Their movements appropriately reflect their muscular bodies where they are fast but execute certain punches and kicks that compliment their frames. If you don’t believe big guys like them can be agile, we encourage you watch some pro wrestling to get an idea that they can.

    Removal of Characters

Kenshiro encounters many rivals throughout his journey, and some of them become significant allies upon losing to him. This is true with both Yasaka and Feiyan in the anime and manga. However, the anime criminally removes one significant rival such as Liu Zongwu, this series’ equivalent to Raoh/Kaioh from Hokuto no Ken. Like Kaioh, he is a master of another form of Hokuto’s martial arts which focuses on implosions as opposed to explosions. As weird as this sounds, Zongwu happens to be a Nazi soldier who is a Chinese (the Chinese in fact did have a brief semi-alliance with Germany before the war). However, he serves as Kenshiro’s greatest rival in the Souten no Ken manga and his removal from the anime just makes that version feel empty. Kenshin, Kenshiro’s rival in the anime, is a good character, but Zongwu as the Chinese Nazi is a more worthy villain. In connection to Zongwu and Ramon (who is Hokuto no Ken’s adopted father), the manga implies he was the teacher to Jukei, an old man the Hokuto no Ken Kenshiro meets in the final story arc, and uses the same fighting style as Zongwu. In the Souten no Ken manga, you see Jukei as a boy and he meets Zongwu after his redeems himself.

Last, what is interesting to note is how many actual historical figures played a role in the manga, and are entirely taken out of the anime (we assume it may be estate issues). One notable person is Chiang Kai-shek, a general in China’s army in World War II and a controversial right wing politician. On the Japanese side, we also have Iwane Matsui, a general largely responsible and executed for the Rape of Nanjing after World War II. However, the anime does manage to still feature Puyi, a former Emperor of China who became a puppet governor for the Japanese as the Emperor of Manchuko throughout World War II. As some of you may know, many Japanese politicians try to deny the nation’s aggressions in World War II. Thankfully, the manga nor the anime doesn’t promote that kind of agenda in regards to Japan’s sins in World War II, when in fact, it promotes them not only as fact, but wrong. While both the anime and manga take place in World War II, the manga portrays a lot of the politics in some story arcs while the anime doesn’t emphasize them too much. By adding these historical figures, it does add more to the story and the outcome. Considering how the world of Hokuto no Ken is devastated by nuclear war, both versions do a great job of bringing out the irony that despite stopping the world from being entirely nuked, it ends up that way just sixty years later.

    10. Meeting Princess Daphne from Dragon’s Lair

Saving a princess from a dragon is probably the most cookie-cutter video game plot you can have, just short of Space Invaders. But Princess Daphne breaks the mold with her unabashed sex appeal and ditsy attitude, both of which she wears with pride. After barely scraping your way past the nigh-impossible death traps the game constantly throws at you, Daphne greets you with a sparkly outfit and a smile. Her breathy, lilting dialogue is equal parts endearing and hilarious and gives you all the motivation you need to rescue her from the evil dragon. She only has a minute or two of screentime, but she certainly makes an impression!

    9. Damien’s Ending from Dream Daddy: A Daddy Dating Simulator

    [en][information_general item1 = "System" content1="PC, PS4" item2="Publisher" content2="Game Grumps" item3="Developer" content3="Game Grumps" item4="Release Dates" content4="July 20, 2017" post_id="" ][/en]

Damien initially seems like the most eccentric of the dads you can choose to date in this visual novel—he’s obsessed with Victorian England to the point that his clothes, house, and mannerisms are carefully chosen to be as accurate as possible for the time period. But beneath all of that, he’s a down-to-earth guy who works in IT and volunteers at an animal shelter. His struggle to balance his passion for history with his “boring” normal self reminds us of our own lives as anime and video game fans. The protagonist accepts Damien for all of his wildly different aspects and assures him that he’s loved no matter what form he takes, which resonates with us deep in our nerdy souls.

    8. Sergiu and Elisa’s Reunion from Papers, Please

    [en][information_general item1 = "System" content1="PC, iOS, PS Vita" item2="Publisher" content2="3909 LLC" item3="Developer" content3="3909 LLC" item4="Release Dates" content4="August 8, 2013" post_id="" ][/en]

Papers, Please casts the player as a border control officer in an authoritarian country, checking passports and work visas to afford a meager living for their suffering family. You become a tiny part of a thousand stories, and one of the most impactful is the struggle of a young guard named Sergiu to reunite with his dearest love Elisa on the other side of the border wall. If you manage to save Sergiu from a number of terrorist attacks and allow Elisa through the checkpoint even though she doesn’t have the documents she needs, they’ll run towards each other and embrace. You’ll receive a penalty for letting Elisa in, but it’s worth it to see these two little stick figures happy together. They even decide to name their first child after you!

    7. Haru’s Café Scene from Persona 5

    [en][information_general item1 = "System" content1="PS3, PS4" item2="Publisher" content2="Atlus" item3="Developer" content3="P-Studio" item4="Release Dates" content4="September 15, 2016 (JPN), April 4, 2017 (Worldwide)" post_id="" ][/en]

Haru has been under immense pressure for her entire life, perpetuated by her corrupt company executive father who wants to use her for political gain. If you spend time developing your relationship with her, however, she’ll eventually muster up enough confidence to stand up for herself and take control of her future. Late in the game, you meet her at the café that her father’s company runs. She thanks you for your support and cheerfully declares her intention to run her own café chain one day. And if you accept her affections, she adorably lays her head on your shoulder and says that she “wants to be with you a little longer...” Aww!!

    6. Riku Vowing to Save Sora from Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance

Let’s face it, Sora and Riku are the real couple of the Kingdom Hearts series. Not to hate on Kairi, but these two have been through hell together and are much closer as a result. And it seems like the writers of Dream Drop Distance agree since they spend the whole game shipping the boys so hard that Amazon would be jealous. Late in the game, Sora is trapped in a magical sleep that he can’t wake up from, but Riku is determined to save him. He tells Mickey, “Sora saved me once. And... I heard him call my name. He needs me!” This little moment shows that their bond is deep enough to reach their very souls. Riku saves Sora from his darkness, and there would’ve been no one better for the job.

    5. Lilly’s Ending from Katawa Shoujo

    [en][information_general item1 = "System" content1="PC" item2="Publisher" content2="Four Leaf Studios" item3="Developer" content3="Four Leaf Studios" item4="Release Dates" content4="January 4, 2012" post_id="" ][/en]

It’s hard to believe, but one of the most touching romantic scenes in video game history came from a title developed by 4chan users where you date girls who live with physical disabilities. Lilly’s storyline is our favorite, particularly because of its ending that expertly skirts the line between melodrama and achingly genuine love. Lilly reluctantly decides to move back to Scotland with her family, but the protagonist (who has a weak heart) chases her down at the airport and begs her to stay. He has a minor heart attack from the strain and wakes up in the hospital to see Lilly by his side. The two share a tearful embrace as they promise to support each other from now on, instead of assuming that the other person is too perfect to need help. Meanwhile, Lilly’s music box twinkles away in the corner...

    4. Johnny and River Together in Death from To the Moon

    [en][information_general item1 = "System" content1="PC" item2="Publisher" content2="Freebird Games" item3="Developer" content3="Freebird Games" item4="Release Dates" content4="November 1, 2011" post_id="" ][/en]

Scientists Neil and Eva work for a company that rewrites the memories of dying people so that they can be happy in their final moments. Their latest client is Johnny, an elderly man in a coma whose last wish is to go to the moon. As they dig further into his memories, they discover that this wish is deeply entwined with his love for his wife, River. Through memory manipulation and Johnny’s own determination to remember his wife, the two lovers meet again as ghosts at a familiar cliffside to watch a space shuttle launch that Neil and Eva are also viewing. They never reached the moon, but they were able to find each other after passing on... and that’s what they had really wished for in the first place.

    3. Layton and Claire’s Goodbye from Professor Layton and the Unwound Future

    [en][information_general item1 = "System" content1="DS" item2="Publisher" content2="Level-5, Nintendo" item3="Developer" content3="Level-5" item4="Release Dates" content4="November 27, 2008 (JPN), September 12, 2010 (NA), October 22, 2010 (EU)" post_id="" ][/en]

Professor Layton is the picture-perfect English gentleman, right down to his unflappable personality and fancy top hat. But in the third game in the series, the sudden reappearance of his presumed-to-be-dead college girlfriend reveals that this puzzle master has a soft heart on the inside. It turns out that Claire was sent to the future instead of dying in a time machine experiment, but she only has a limited time to spend with her sweetie before she has to return to the past and die to keep the timeline secure. The two share a touching moment where they wonder what kind of life they would’ve lived together, but soon Claire has to go. Layton, in tears, removes his trademark hat for the first time and silently looks up at the stars...

    2. Anju and Kafei’s Mask Ceremony from The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask

    [en][information_general item1 = "System" content1="N64" item2="Publisher" content2="Nintendo" item3="Developer" content3="Nintendo" item4="Release Dates" content4="April 27, 2000 (JPN), October 26, 2000 (NA), November 17, 2000 (EU)" post_id="" ][/en]
    [es][information_general item1 = "Compañía" content1="___content1___" item2="Lanzamiento" content2="___content2___" item3="Géneros" content3="___content3___" item4="Plataforma" content4="___content4___" post_id="" ][/es]

Majora’s Mask is the most character-focused game in the entire Legend of Zelda series, using its three-day time loop to immerse you in the lives of Termina’s residents as they deal with the imminent threat of the moon crushing them to death. Every character is surprisingly well written for the time, but the most memorable among them are the star-crossed couple Anju and Kafei. During the longest and most difficult sidequest in the game, you reunite the two lovers mere minutes before the moon destroys Clock Town. They perform the traditional wedding ritual of exchanging Sun and Moon masks and embrace, prepared to “greet the dawn together”. Unfortunately, this beautiful moment can’t last forever, as you’re forced to reset time back to when they were still separated by the Skull Kid’s curse.

    1. Tidus and Yuna’s Kiss in the River from Final Fantasy X

    [sourceLink asin="B00C3MKCF6" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
    [en][information_general item1 = "System" content1="PS2" item2="Publisher" content2="Square" item3="Developer" content3="Square" item4="Release Dates" content4="July 19, 2001 (JPN), December 17, 2001 (NA), May 24, 2002 (EU)" post_id="" ][/en]

Final Fantasy X’s dialogue can seem a bit cheesy these days (the laughing scene comes to mind), but there’s no denying that Tidus and Yuna are rightfully regarded as one of the best couples in video game history. And for the #1 spot on this list, it only seemed right to give it to their iconic kissing scene in the stream. Tidus finally figures out that Yuna’s pilgrimage will kill her if she completes it, and tries to convince her to give it up so she can live her own life. Yuna wants to believe him but breaks down at the thought of abandoning something so important for her own sake. And then Tidus leans in and kisses her! It’s adorable all by itself, but the sentiment in that kiss—that Yuna is worthy of being more than just a sacrifice—is what warms our hearts every time.

    Final Thoughts
