[ad_bottom class="mt40"] [clipboard_with_credit]Cool! Cooler!! Coolest!!! Haven’t you heard? He’s Sakamoto and he’s here to stay. Sakamoto is the big shiny star of this spring season’s comedy anime. We often get really cool and funny main characters that win our hearts, but none as cool and admirable as Sakamoto. The guy has so much style it’s ridiculous! Seriously, this show is completely ridiculous and funny as hell. After only a few episodes, Sakamoto Desu Ga has become one of the most (if not the most) popular comedy anime of this season and one of the top shows of Spring 2016 overall. There’s just no stopping Sakamoto. As it usually happens with new anime, Sakamoto fans just can’t get enough of him, which leaves them biting their nails off for a whole week before the next episode is aired. Luckily for them, we have come up with a nice selection of anime that will help keep their plates full in between Sakamoto episodes. Of course, don’t expect their main characters to be as cool as Sakamoto. You can trust that they will be as hilarious though!
Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou follows the everyday life of Tadakuni, Hidenori and Yoshitaki, three totally ordinary boys attending an all-boys high school. Their wild imaginations are anything but ordinary. These kids can turn any aspect of everyday life into a theatrical scene or even into a cross-dressing experiment. Things get quite wild and ridiculous indeed. Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou is a school comedy just like Sakamoto Desu Ga. It has many of the same ingredients, especially the over-the-top humor. Both shows take ordinary and insignificant events to turn them into the most absurd and hilarious situations. Plus, there’s a very similar scene in both anime, in which the characters play volleyball while discussing everyday topics.
Cromartie High School is an oldie but goldie. It follows the school life of Takashi Kamiyama, a new student at the Cromartie Academy. At Cromartie Academy, most of the students are juvenile delinquents. Takashi, being the only behaving student, is naturally thought of as the toughest kid in school, following the logic that only the toughest would enroll in a school full of criminals. Just like Sakamoto Desu Ga, Cromartie High School is a school comedy featuring constant ridiculous situations, among the most notable we could mention the participation of Freddie Mercury (yup, believe it). What make these two quite similar though, are the similar situations in which both main characters, Sakamoto and Takashi, find themselves. In the same way, Sakamoto is put in the spotlight for being, well… perfect, Takashi is the center of attention for being the tough, good guy. Plus, the two shows have the same kind of absurd humor.
Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is the story of the everyday life of high school teacher, Nozomu Itoshiki. Nozomu is extremely emotionally unstable, for which he’s constantly trying to commit suicide. Fortunately for us (since we want Nozomu around to keep making us laugh), destiny always mocks him by finding new ways to trump his attempts of suicide. What’s even crazier is that Nozomu high school class is filled with students with even more emotional problems than him. Sayonara is another school parody comedy, which has a lot in common with Sakamoto Desu Ga. This show in particular has a rather dark way of producing humor. However, it does so in a similar fashion to Sakamoto Desu Ga, by spiraling ordinary conversations out of control and into ridiculousness. Both shows step in and out of the realm of the absurd just as abruptly as a high school student offers her teacher 50 yen for changing his name to “Pink Supervisor” only instants after finding him hanging from a tree. It doesn’t make any sense whatsoever, I know; but that’s what’s so funny about these shows!
Prison School was one of 2015’s highlights as regards comedy anime. It’s the story of Kiyoshi, Gakuto, Shingo, Andre and Joe, the only high school boys attending a former all-girls academy. On their first week at school, they’re caught peeking on the girls baths, so they’re locked away in a prison inside the school. Soon, the boys will find that being in an all-girls school is not what they had dreamed. Prison School is a very popular show that will crack you up just as easily as Sakamoto Desu Ga. It’s also a school comedy, although Prison School has strong ecchi elements and many of the jokes are quite dirty. However, Prison School shares the same kind of humor as Sakamoto Desu Ga in many ways, by exaggerating ordinary things and characters’ reactions to the point of making mountains out of molehills (such as Andre’s unforgettable nipple hair that was compared to a tree swaying to the wind).
Hoozuki no Reitetsu tells the everyday life of the King of Hell, Lord Enma’s, secretary, Hoozuki. Hoozuki’s a demon in charge of the management of Hell, and he does a pretty good job. Hoozuki has to face troubled souls and manage Hell’s employees as well as the 272 sections of Hell on a regular basis. This is clearly not an easy job, but it can be way funnier than you’d expect. Hoozuki, the main character in Hoozuki no Reitetsu is similar in many ways to Sakamoto. Hoozuki is a rather serious man (well, demon actually) who takes his job and everything else quite seriously. Everyone worships him for being so successful. Just like Sakamoto, Hoozuki shows little emotion and a lot of indifference towards his pairs, which makes him look cool and awesome. Unlike Sakamoto Desu Ga, Hoozuki no Reitetsu is a supernatural comedy instead of a school one. However, they have a very similar way of producing humor. Both have completely ridiculous characters, many of which think a lot of themselves at first only to end up being humiliated by the main character. Similarly to Sakamoto Desu Ga, Hoozuki no Reitetsu exploits humor through the social interactions of its main character.
Arakawa Under the Bridge is a downright bizarre romantic comedy. It follows the life of Kou Ichinomiya, a young man raised in a high-class family who owes his great success in life to his family motto: “never be indebted to anyone” (Lannister alert!). One day Kou falls off a bridge and is saved by a weird homeless girl. In return for saving his life, she asks him to live with her under the bridge. This is how Kou begins a new life surrounded by the most peculiar characters. Arakawa Under the Bridge is a seinen romantic comedy with less romance than you’d expect and much more WTF! In the same way that Sakamoto can fly through the air in the middle of a hurricane to save a small bird, anything (and I mean anything!) can happen in this show. The humor centers in over-the-top gags as well. Probably the biggest similarity between the two shows is found in the main characters, Kou and Sakamoto, which are both cool, successful, and envied by others (although Sakamoto is flawless, while Kou is far from it).
This is the end of our list of anime like Sakamoto Desu Ga? I hope you may find it useful to keep yourself busy while waiting for the next episode of Sakamoto to air. Just in case you’re interested in even more anime that are in one way or another similar to this show, I would also recommend Himouto! Umaru-chan, which would be some sort of female and kawaii version of Sakamoto with a very childish and silly humor; Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge, which presents a unique main character but has more elements of slice of life comedy; and Katte ni Kaizou, which has a weird and ridiculous main character, although the jokes are quite lewd. Feel free to comment about your thoughts on Sakamoto or any of these shows, and if you think there’s another show along the same lines as Sakamoto Desu Ga that deserves mention you can go ahead and share it with us! :3
The world of anime is full of magical girls and everyone has at least seen ONE series of this type. In the early 90’s most of us started to wonder into the world of magic with the beautiful Sailor Moon and by the last years of that decade, we were introduced to the adorable Sakura Kinomoto. Cardcaptor Sakura got rid of that kind-of-embarrassing scenes of magical girls transformations and introduced a more down to earth, fashion based “battle” dresses made by her best friend Tomoyo. Cardcaptor Sakura outfits were one of the many highlights of the series not only because of Sakura, but as well as the clothes worn by Shaoran Li, Meiling and even the personifications of the Clow Cards. CCS made many fans struggle when deciding what Cardcaptor Sakura costume to wear for the convention and what character to be! In the end, nobody could resist the urge to wield the iconic Cardcaptor Sakura wand and cosplay as Sakura. Because the series was a huge hit and it had lots of wonderful characters, there’s millions of Cardcaptor Sakura Cosplay out there but, here in Honey’s Anime we have gathered over 20 of the best cosplays for you! It’s time to dust off your Cardcaptor Sakura cards (we know you have them!!) and think of being a cute magical girl or boy while watching these CCS cosplay images - just like old times.
The spring anime season seems to be taking off and there’s one anime that seems to have everyone on their toes: Koutetsujou no Kabaneri, also known as Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress! Koutetsujou no Kabaneri has monsters very similar to zombies known as Kabane, steam trains known as Hayajiro, and a boy named Ikoma who has created the Tsuranukizutsu, a weapon that he hopes will be able to kill the Kabane! There’s a lot going on in this anime! It truly seems to be one of the biggest action anime of the spring anime season. However, we all can’t sit still waiting for the next episode! Whether you’re watching Koutetsujou no Kabaneri now or have finished the anime in the future, you’ll probably want to catch an anime that’s as griping as Koutetsujou no Kabaneri with a similar plot. Well, you’ve come to the right place! We know how otaku think, so we’ve compiled a list that might just ease your thirst for more Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress. Here’s our list of 6 anime like Koutetsujou no Kabaneri!
Humans were almost killed to extinction, many centuries ago, by the massive humanoid beings known was titans, who seem to eat humans for sport. This created fear that drove humans into hiding behind massive walls, erected to keep the Titans out. A century passed since the walls were erected and the humans have lived in relative peace, but one day, their fragile peace is destroyed by a colossal titan who breaks through the outer wall, allowing other titans to enter the first circle. With the loss of someone dear to him, Eren Yeager vows to protect mankind from the hands of the titans by joining the Survey Corps, a military unit who ventures beyond the walls to kill the titans. However, with this decision, Eren soon learns there’s more to him than he ever knew before. If you weren’t expecting it, then you’re insane because there’s no way we wouldn’t include Koutetsujou no Kabaneri on our list! Ikoma and Eren Yeager share the same ambitious ideals, hoping to help the humanity by destroying the monsters that plague their world despite their own inadequacies. In contrast to the Tsuranukizutsu are the blades that Eren must use to cut into the titans. Instead of a locomotive, Eren uses a 3D maneuver gear. There seems to be no end to how similar Koutetsujou no Kabaneri is to Shingeki no Kyojin, but the biggest similarity of all can be found once you start watching. Enjoy!
Bearing the resemblance to humans, blood thirsty ghouls have blended into society in the city of Tokyo, feasting on the flesh of unsuspecting humans. The presence of these vicious ghouls has led the humans in Tokyo to live in constant fear. It is here that we meet Kaneki Ken, a shy bookworm, who has finally asked out his crush, Kamishiro Rize, a girl who seems to love books as much as he does. Unfortunately for Kaneki, Rize is not who she seems. It is because of Rize that Kaneki finds himself a half-ghoul and half-human, struggling to fit into society. Taking another setting in which humans live in fear of a monstrous entity, Tokyo Ghoul is an anime not to be missed. Tokyo Ghoul shows us the two sides of society: one of humans and the other of ghouls. Humans kill ghouls in order to survive, but ghouls consume humans in order to live. Is there a real difference? While both parties fight for their own survival, we witness that both sides have their downfalls, but it brings into question the morality of the situation at hand. Much like in Koutetsujou no Kabaneri, where Ikoma faces discrimination as a Kabaneri, half human/half kabana, because people only see the side that harms humanity, many ghouls face discrimination merely for what they are. Tokyo Ghoul is an anime about monsters, but in the end, who is the real monster?
By the year 2021, humans have been driven behind walls by the infectious virus “Gastrea” that has cost mankind many lives. Gastrea monsters can only be killed by a weapon made out of a special metal called Varanium. Although many efforts have been made to protect mankind from Gastrea, female children are born infected, thus they are given the title “Cursed Children”. However, it is these Cursed Children that have the power to fight Gastrea monsters. The Cursed Children, as Initiators, team up with a Promoter, someone who is meant to lead and protect them, to defeat the Gastrea monsters the plague mankind. It is in Black Bullet that we follow Satomi Rentaro and his Initiator, Aihara Enju, as they fight together to help mankind. Another powerful anime to catch is Black Bullet, which may not seem similar to Koutetsujou no Kabaneri at first due to its cute art style, but let’s take a deeper look into the anime. Both Black Bullet and Koutetsujou no Kabaneri are set in worlds facing imminent doom from monsters that are destroying the human race. However, the only ones who can save the humans are half human/half monsters as well as humans equipped with specialized weapons. While Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress is still new, we get to witness in Black Bullet how Cursed Children are treated regardless of how they can help humanity. Black Bullet shows us how fear can turn anyone into a monster, more so than the actual “monsters” that the Cursed Children are viewed as. In Koutetsujou no Kabaneri, we see how the humans react upon seeing a kabaneri. In Black Bullet, we see the actions of humans who are ruled by fear and ignorance.
If you could never die, what would you choose? Seventeen years ago, Ajin were discovered on the continent of Africa. It is said that Ajin possess supernatural abilities and are immortal, however they bear the resemblance to humans. Just what was the purpose of Ajin? Although Ajin have been reported internationally, many people do not believe they exist, believing them to be a rare entity that you only hear of in passing. That’s how it starts for our protagonist, Kei, but soon, Kei will find himself more involved with Ajin than he ever imagined. Ajin is a recent anime from winter 2016 that’s turning heads as it takes a look at the darker side of humanity. Much like the humans in Koutetsujou no Kabaneri, humans in Ajin are quick to turn in anyone who is deemed an Ajin, although it is for personal gain rather than personal safety. Yet, it is in both series that we get to see the weakness in many humans as they cower from an unknown being, in favor of their own greater interest despite the good that person may have had in their lives. Watch as good people fall and how they manage against the discrimination and fear.
It is the year 2071 and the world is nearly in ruins thanks to the monsters only known by Aragami. Fenrir was founded to destroy Aragami with the help of “God Arcs”, which are weapons created from the cells of Aragami. Once, God Arcs could only be kept in one form, but new God Arcs have been created capable of changing forms from a gun to a blade. And their wielders are known as God Eaters. Yet another anime that is not to be missed is God Eater, an anime that plays off the similar plot line of a post apocalyptic world where humans are fighting for survival against monsters, the Aragami. We have a main character, Lenka, who is driven to eradicate the monster menaces that are the Aragami. To fight against the Aragami, however, one must be armed with a God Arc, which is created specially in order to kill Aragami. If you’re looking for an anime that is similar to Koutetsujou no Kabaneri with its post apocalyptic setting and struggle for survival, yet incorporates more militant tactics, you may want to give God Eater a try.
Every human older than the age of 13 has been wiped out by a mysterious virus allowing vampires, who once hid, to enslave the human race. In exchange for their blood, the vampires promise to protect the remaining humans. It is here that we meet our protagonists: Hyakuya brothers Mikaela and Yuuichirou who have bonded together with other children to create a makeshift family. Dissatisfied with the way humans are treated as livestock by their vampire overlords, Mikaela begins to think of a means to escape. The plan ends in massive manslaughter only to have Yuuichirou survive and find a place amongst the Moon Demon Company, a militia with the goal of eradicating the vampires from Japan. In an effort to avenge his family, Yuuichirou has worked hard to join the Japanese Imperial Demon Army, but little does he know what awaits him. Owari no Seraph is another anime that is set in a post apocalyptic world, however humans do not face imminent death. Rather, they live their lives as cattle to be feasted upon by their vampire protectors. Yuuichirou is our ambitious hero with dreams of saving the world from the grasp of the vampires, but he can only do so with the use of specialized weaponry created to kill the vampires. Yes, there is no doubt that Owari no Seraph is much like Koutetsujou no Kabaneri, but it does not feature a single protagonist who experiences both sides. Instead, we have two protagonists who are able to show us, without discrimination, how both the vampires and the humans operate. We get to see how both parties take on this war for humanity, but you can only find out by watching.
If you thought Koutetsujou no Kabaneri had you on the edge of your seat, you’re sure to find these 6 anime like Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress to be just as thrilling. From discrimination to post apocalyptic settings, there’s an anime out there that will satisfy your thirst for more Koutetsujou no Kabaneri! This anime may still be taking its first steps, but there’s no doubt that fans want more. For those of you, who have seen the anime Kabaneri, feel free to share your thoughts. What do you think sets it apart from others in the same genre? Maybe, you have a few anime you think should be on our list. Share your suggestions so that we can all enjoy anime like Koutetsujou no Kabaneri!
Japan has many weird or even bizarre fetishes ranging from bukkake to necrophilia, and perhaps the most popular and certainly old (we mean ancient old) fetish is the tentacle erotica. What is tentacle erotica? In its simplest term, it’s a fetish involving a human being (usually a woman) engaged in sexual activities with creatures or monsters that have tentacles. There are lots of tentacle hentai anime out there, but we’re going to focus on 10 hentai anime that shows tentacles, but also tell a story be it good or bad, or a justification why tentacles exist in the anime. The tentacles must be part of the story or are a literal part of key characters, and they may or not be frequently shown. Oh and yes, this list contains pornography, blood and gore, rape, and an assortment of very offensive material. And if you do try and watch any of these, please avoid the English dub version. So yeah, you have been warned.
Demon hunter Mikoto, Sui, and Yamato are at school late at night fighting supernatural beings. After failing to kill the monster, the three students retreated to the nearest swimming pool to freshen up. Little do they know they walked into a trap and they’re at the mercy of the monster they tried to kill. Yep, that’s the summary of the plot. Actually, the story is barebones and the rest is filled of nonstop tentacle rape scenes. And that’s the reason why this is number 10. If you want pure tentacle action with some story to justify the tentacle’s existence, then look no further.
Demon City Tokyo. A place populated by both humans and evil spirits. Peace has been kept for ages by an unspoken agreement between humankind and the demons. But now, humans have fallen from grace, and formed a secret criminal organization with the demons. Ingrid is a demon hunter who brings justice to the city by hunting down demons preying on helpless humans. Due to her acts of justice, Ingrid is known as the Dark Knight that struck fear to the hearts of wrongdoers. Like a majority of hentai anime with tentacles, The Dark Knight Ingrid’s time is focused on Ingrid getting raped by monsters and sometimes subjected to inhumane experiments. There is a story somewhere and is actually okay, but you won’t get to see it develop until the last episode because the bulk of the runtime is Ingrid and fellow demon hunter Yatsu Murasaki, getting raped nonstop and turned into sex slaves. Yeah, it’s ugly. These types of stories are just backdrops for the rape.
Gojo “Nowaki” Tetsuya has been summoned to help train girls in the Gekkokan to satisfy the lust of men. The Gekkokan is a secret underground brothel that is popular amongst the rich and powerful as the go-to place to satisfy their lust by engaging in sexual acts so depraved that one might wonder if they’re truly human beings. However, the true purpose of the brothel is far more insidious for it’s a gathering place to make a pact with the demons. Dark Love is something that is very hard to recommend because it’s one of the most depraved, hardcore, and probably one of the most offensive tentacle hentai out there. Dark Love didn’t care about subtlety and the girls are subjected to tentacles that are way too overdone - like the victim’s belly deforms after getting inserted, and tentacles exit out their mouths. The tentacles range from the typical fleshly phallic ones, to the more extreme like mini tentacles popping out on a tentacle or pointy ones that look like small hooks. Ouch. Yeah, it’s very ugly.
Princess Lilia is the next in line to rule over the kingdom from her brother Dirk. Like any jealous power-hungry relative vying to take control over their father’s kingdom, he made a pact with a demon to capture Lilia and have them extract her hidden power by subjecting her to the highest level of sexual ecstasy through humiliation, rape and offering her body to the demons. This anime has everything ranging from rape to incest. Majority of the runtime is indeed full of sexual acts, only a small fraction actually involves tentacles that come out of Dirk after, you know, agreeing to something. With this power, Dirk has taken over the kingdom and he actively rapes her sister, Lilia, and his mother, and periodically abuses Lilia by letting her get raped by monsters to extract her power. The story, no matter how miniscule, is very okay and the ending is, for all intents and purposes, a good one. Yeah, stories in hentai aren’t really Shakespearean.
In a quaint little town, many mysterious deaths are occurring, and these incidents are so bizarre, rumours were circling around that something supernatural is causing all of this. Enter our dimwitted and unfortunate hero Akishima Akitoshi, a typical high school student who happens to encounter a mysterious new student named Kagano Ai, who happens to arrive the same time these deaths are occurring. Coincidence? Akitoshi found out the hard way when he saw Ai fighting one of these monsters. Story is pretty straightforward: Monsters appear and it’s up to Ai and Akitoshi to fend them off, Ai conveniently makes a mistake, monsters rape her, and yeah, they go out and investigate who is responsible for these attacks. The level of these sexual acts are very extreme like, uh, Ai getting impaled by a steel column… through her… privates… But the art and animation are superb though! There are some tentacle moments, but there are a lot of normal sex scenes that are very-well drawn and tame. Oh, we did mention hentai stories aren’t really Shakespearean, right?
A group of girls led by Takashiro Hiroko are conducting fortune telling for fun and research on the occult. They made a big break when they found an ancient magic book from a used books shop (it happens), and started translating its contents. With their newfound power, they began accepting sexual requests or vengeance, by charming or cursing their targets. Things get more dark as they explore more of the contents found in the book, and, well, obviously the book is evil. This is a short hentai with only one tentacle scene. That may be a disappointment, but considering its length and its focus on the story, one scene is just enough. Bible Black Gaiden focuses heavily on occultism and there are a few disturbing scenes near the end that involves the usual occult trope of human sacrifice.
A million years ago, the Earth was ruled by the dinosau—wait, according to this anime, the Earth was ruled by giant beasts with tentacles. When the Earth’s climate is changing, these beasts left the planet to a distance part of the galaxy. However, they didn’t forget about their mother planet, so they sent vanguards to try and take back the planet by creating alien-human hybrids so they can adapt to the atmosphere. To stop the alien invasion, the Interplanetary Mutual Observation Agency is founded to intervene and eliminate the aliens they call “Demon Beasts.” Pretty straight forward sci-fi hentai with tentacles and a decent story. Heck, it even got a sequel to try and tie up loose ends. There’s an abundance of tentacle rape scenes here, but not too brutal like the other hentai listed in this article. The budget for this hentai is surprisingly good with very detailed art and animation. If you’re into alien-type hentai, then Demon Beast Invasion is a good way to start.
Tachibana Ichirou was peeking at a shed and saw something unexpected: His female teacher Morino Yuko is actually a witch. Unfortunately for him, he was caught in the act by another witch named Lily Ramses Futaba. Fearing that Ichirou will compromise their true identities, Lily casts a spell to stop him that somehow backfired and Ichiro turned into a tentacle monster. You don’t see that everyday, that’s for sure! Ichirou was turned into a monster and in order for him to survive or keep himself sane, he requires magic. But since he is turned into something that was beyond the Lily’s control, he must feed on magic indirectly through sexual intercourse with a witch... tentacle style. There’s a story about magic and a guy who turned into a monster somewhere, but really, it’s all about the characters, the humor and the surprisingly not-so offensive sex and, sometimes, romantic sex. Talk about a blessing in disguise!
Mido Miko is the descendant of the most powerful clan of female ninjas. They are tasked to keep the Shikima, horny beings from the demon realm, away from humans. As any typical hentai show goes, a powerful force is trying to open up the realm of the humans to the realm of the demons. It’s up to Miko and her sexcraft ninjitsu to save the world. La Blue Girl has every fetish you could think of. The main difference of this hentai is it doesn’t involve hideous deaths and murders because La Blue Girl is more on the comedic side and pokes fun at tentacle erotica itself. While the hentai is comedic in nature, the sexual acts aren’t to laugh about — tons of explicit scenes every few minutes and sometimes they involve monsters and those slimy tentacles! But seriously, La Blue Girl is one of the most popular and successful hentai anime that an anime fan should at least check out… if you’ve got the stomach for this sort of thing.
According to legend, the human realm is not the only realm on Earth. In fact, there are two more realms exist: the Demon Realm called the Makai, and the realm of half-man, half-beast called the Juujikai. There is an old tale saying that every 3000 years, a supreme being called the Overfiend, will emerge from the human realm and bring balance to the three realms. After hundreds of years of searching, Jyaku Amano, a Juujikai, sensed the Overfiend residing within the human, Nagumo Tatsuo. Soon after. Tatsuo was attacked by the Makai because they believe what’s residing within Tatsuo is not the Overfiend, but rather an evil being that is set on destroying all realms. Urotsukidoji is often considered the granddaddy of hentai anime that arguably popularized monster sex, tentacles, explicit scenes (monster rape, death, gore, etc.) while telling a gruesome, yet interesting story. Its influence to the genre alone is what made Urotsukidoji number 1 on this list. If you’ve seen any recent explicit hentai anime, chances are they were inspired by Urotsukidoji.
So there you go! We know, the list is filled with mostly rape and unspeakable abuse of women, and sadly that’s one of the main draw of tentacle erotica. Modern tentacle erotica is mostly shameless rape and it’s not for everyone and it will likely to remain that way. If you have the iron will for it, you will find these tentacle anime on the list a very unique experience. So what do you think of tentacles and how they are used in hentai? Are you willing to give the genre a try or mentally lock it in your head and pretend this sort of genre never existed? Please let us know by leaving a comment below!

Ecchi is a genre that has heavily implied sexual tension and situations between a small or large group of characters. While most may thirst for the abundance of fan service, others have been known to seek out the comedy, romance and even action to keep us entertained. Regardless of why you watch it, I think we can all agree that it’s the females that really drive this style of anime. In this particular top 10 list, we’re exploring the well-endowed realm of female ecchi characters in anime. Typically when you watch anime, it’s the male characters who add a little perversion to the story, but for this article, we’re looking at perverts of the female variety. The great thing about this list, is if you’re a well-versed fan of the ecchi genre, you’re probably going to know (and like) most of these female perverts. If you’re not familiar with these girls, we suggest checking out some of these characters most infamous ecchi scenes. These particular females are ranked based on several factors, that include, but not limited to, memorable events or situations, personality (ecchi level) and physical appearance. Now that we’ve got the basis covered, it’s time for Honey’s Anime to bring you the top 10 ecchi girls in anime.
Kicking off the list is Matsu from the anime Sekirei. She is a red-headed computer genius, who is skilled in the art of computer hacking. She’s known for being stealthy and lives in a secret room at the Izumo Inn. Minato, the main male protagonist, often considers her the strategist of the group. However, what Minato quickly finds out, she likes to dip into some debauchery, at Minato’s expense. Matsu uses her resources to peep on the residents of the Izumo Inn. When Minato was alone taking a bath, she used her knowledge of the situation to pounce on him; breasts exposed and asked if he would like to be a part of her sexual experiment. She wanted him to cool her hot body off with his “DNA”. Another perverse moment came as she was ready to prey on an unsuspecting Minato, just as he woke up. However, her plan went awry when she looked to plant a kiss on Minato and Musubi stepped in and took the kiss right from Matsu. To Matsu’s surprise, she actually liked it. Those are some of the examples why she is considered by some, the ‘shameless’ Sekirei.
If you like some yuri in your anime then look no further than Katsuragi. This is an excellent choice for our number nine spot, as this blonde-bombshell doesn’t hold much back when greeting her fellow kunoichis. How does she like to greet them you ask? Well let’s just say, she grabs more than her hands can manage of the girl's fun bags. Katsuragi claims, that all that massaging will make the females boobs grow. There are many opportunities Katsuragi affords herself to get Asuka, in particular, to submit to her dirty ways. That includes, tripping Asuka into a small blow-up pool and getting her all wet. While Asuka is defenseless, Katsuragi leeches onto her boobs and offers to help Asuka change into dry clothes. If her perverted actions don’t speak loud enough to you, just take a look at her outfit when she ‘transforms’. It consists of her school uniform that is unbuttoned, in which it exposes most of her torso, including the majority of her chest. Her blue tie dangles down and gets nearly lost in her cleavage. It looks as if a small bit of breeze could expose her breasts completely.
I could start off and simply say, “well Maria is a succubus, enough said”. That should already give the audience a general idea, of her personality. However, I will elaborate as to why she is on this list. For starters, she deceives her sister Mio, into forming a pact with Basara, in which if the servant rebels against the master she needs to be ‘punished’ by the form of fondling her body. Not only does Maria take pleasure out of her sister being fondled, but also orchestrates those instances with zero regret. As with being a succubus she can also manipulate her appearance to please whomever she wishes. This happens during the anime, and her true form is revealed much to her desire. There’s even a moment where Maria is laying on top of Basara grinding on his crotch begging for him to say “Maria… I want to be inside you”. If that’s not perverted enough, how about during an episode when Maria is video recording Mio, Yuki and Basara in the bathroom all naked, while Mio is having another master and servant attack. We could keep going on, but we don’t want to spoil the entire series. Check it out for yourself and see why Maria cracked this list.
If you’re talking about anything that relates to ecchi, you have to mention High School DxD. In this case, we’re going to select Xenovia who first appeared in season two of this series. We want to come out and say that the only reason why she edges out Maria from The Testament of Sister New Devil is because she wants the male protagonist Issei, to impregnate her. She forces herself onto Issei but he’s able to slip out of the situations by interruptions from the cast. That to us takes it to a whole new level considering that Issei, being one of the biggest male perverts in anime, is even frightened by that proclamation from Xenovia. During an episode in season three, Xenovia locks Asia and Issei into a storage room and suggests that the three of them should experiment and have a three-some together. Not only does Xenovia take advantage of Asia’s innocence by taking her shirt and bra off, but she also forces Issei onto the ground and puts his hand on her revealed breast to initiate stimulation. You have to give her credit, when she puts her mind to something, she goes all-out!
Ayame Kajou, is what appears on the surface, to be your everyday high school student, who happens to be the vice-president on the school council. What makes this an interesting pick for our number six slot, is outside of school, she has an alter-ego that wears panties on her head. Yes, you read that correctly. She goes by the name of “Blue Snow” and terrorizes the city by spreading pornographic photos and shouting perverted jokes in defiance to the Peace Makers. It’s the ultimate act of disobedience in a world that has strict morality laws and sexual suppression. You have to see this one to believe it! The Peace Makers had Ayame’s father, Masashi Endo, framed for raping a high school girl, thanks to a group of delinquents. With that, Ayame/Blue Snow, vowed vengeance against the Peace Makers. Ayame, who runs around exposing panties and teasing soldiers about revealing her nakedness to the city, is not your typical act of terrorism. While shouting obscene words that has a large chunk of the city full of lust, and at the peak of their sexual frustration. It’s no wonder she is the number one target to be shut down, by the Peace Makers.
What a list we have so far! We’re at the mid-way point, so let’s take a deep breath and continue this list of degeneracy. Coming in a number five is Rika Shiguma, one of the females who ultimately join the “Neighbors Club”. That’s a club for people who don’t have a lot of friends and want to make friends. Rika brings a smart, but outlandishly sexual personality to this club that often clashes with some of her fellow members. Rika is intelligent but it’s often overshadowed by her own debauchery. She’s often seen putting herself out there for the main character Kodaka Hasegawa. Rika frequently hints at sexual pleasures, her attire and overall attention and approval from him. There’s this one instance where Rika has Kodaka read out one of her books and needless to say, it gets extremely graphic. Sometimes she likes to sneak in subtle moments for him, like when she tells him to close his eyes while she changes into a maid outfit, and she gets dissatisfied when he doesn’t try to peep on her. In some situations it’s amazing that Kodaka doesn’t give in to her. She really tries hard but it never seems to pay off.
When compiling a list of ecchi females in anime, this girl was one of the first that came to mind. It’s quite possible some of you haven’t heard of her, so let’s break it down. For starters she is an exceptional archer, with supreme accuracy. Now that we got that out of the way, it’s time to talk about her perverse side. She’s in love with the main protagonist Yamato Naoe, and she certainly shows it, much to the chagrin of Yamato, who wants to be just platonic friends. Throughout the series there were several ecchi scenes involving her and Yamato. The first one that comes to mind is the visual novel game, which she made (with some assistance) for him to play. While it was playing out, you almost wondered if you were watching hentai or not. It definitely blurred the lines with that scene. Another moment was when she crawled into his bed and started rubbing his crotch thinking it was his penis, little did she know, it was a setup and it was a large pickle she was massaging. The sexual tension continued when she took Yamato’s underwear and decided to wear it. She proclaimed that he isn’t getting it back unless he comes and takes it off of her.
We knew we couldn’t make a list without Yamada. This anime is about Yamada trying to have sex for the first time. Not just with one partner, but 100 different sex partners. Yes, she’s not comfortable with the way her vagina looks, so she finds another virgin to be her tool of lust, by the name of Takashi Kosuda. She wants to slowly ease her way into a new world of sex, before she moves onto more experienced partners. Yamada has an overactive sexual imagination and often finds herself thinking about sex, even when the situation doesn’t call for it. For example, when a guy asks for her picture, she instantly thinks that he is going to go home and masturbate to it. She collects erotic magazines, highlights sexual terms in the dictionary, what more could we need? Well she even has a top 10 sex strategies that she feels will get her to the ‘promised land’. It was hard not to make this number one, simply due to the content of this anime.
Coming in at number two is the ghost-hunter known as Panty. She’s a blonde angel, who uses her panties to transform them into a spiritual gun, known as the “Backlace” to take on ghosts. So how do we top someone who wants to have sex with 100 people? I’m glad you asked, because we have Panty who wants to have sex with 1000 people during her stay on earth. Panty always has sex on her mind and doesn’t take her ghost-hunting job as seriously as her younger sister Stocking. Panty doesn’t have high standards when it comes to guys and she will sleep with the worst of them. She often points out how bad the sex was afterwards and she keeps tabs on how many guys she has slept with. She is considered to be shameless, since she doesn’t care who is watching or recording her while having sex or pole dancing. That includes showing a porno she made in a theater of all places. The animation is different from your average Japanese anime and the subject matter certainly stands out. Consider yourself warned.
Here we are, number one on this perverse-laden “lust”, I mean list. Honey’s Anime is announcing that both Riko and Ako Suminoe from Kiss x Sis is the number one spot. The reason is because we consider both sisters to be on equal terms when it comes to sexual activity and perversion. This OVA series (in particular), is about as close to a hentai as you can get without going over that line. What these sisters do with their step-brother, Keita Suminoe, is mind numbingly sexual. Whether it’s having dry-sex, having him suck on their nipples or just them massaging his crotch, there isn’t much else you can say. Oh wait, you mustn’t forget the time where Keita gave oral sex to Riko with her panties on but pushed off to the side. We feel these girls rightfully deserve the number one spot for the most ecchi females in anime.
As with any top 10 list, it gets exceedingly difficult to make that cut down to the final ten. These articles will always be mired in controversy and might not fit everyone’s taste, but there is a lot to like on this list. With that being said, there is enough boob grabbing, panty showing and sexual innuendoes to keep you up at night. We hope you seen some familiar faces, as well as fresh blood for you to sink your teeth into. Honey’s Anime now wants to hear from you! What did you think of this list? Let us know in the comments section below! We’d love to hear some of your favorites, whether they made the cut or not.
Bungo Stray Dogs is kind of a rare gem that you want to keep in your anime vault forever, and it’s not even finished yet. The characters and their dire situations are dark, even mysterious, and very complex in this seinen anime filled with supernatural action. The characters come off as both heartfelt and comedic. Dazai Osamu, the new poster child of bioshounen, seeks to recruit the young Nakajima Atsushi, due to his connection with a man-eating tiger that has entered their city Yokohama. Dazai is a detective at the Armed Detective Agency, but we find the agency is very little “detective” but very much “armed.” The detectives at the agency all have supernatural powers that allow them to take on jobs that the normal police force can’t handle, including handling supernaturally powered criminals, such as the Port Mafia. Adapted from a popular manga of the same name, anime fans have been eagerly waiting for Bungo Stray Dogs. Bones masterfully delivers this adaptation with amazing light and color effects that really bring the supernatural abilities to animated life. The fight scenes are terrific, but the Bungo Stray Dogs truly hooks us in by promising to reveal the backstories of our new favorite characters. Thankfully, the anime has already been confirmed for two seasons. Unfortunately, because it is currently airing, we have to wait a whole week between episodes. Here’s what to watch in the meantime to hold you over until your next Bungo Stray Dogs fix.
Noragami is a supernatural anime about Yato, a shrine-less god in modern Japan, looking for loyal followers to fund a fancy place that he can call home. He fulfills odd jobs for a godly five yen—think five cents. For many of these jobs, Yato fights off phantoms with his companion Yukine, who transforms into a katana. Noragami Aragoto is Noragami’s second season, which expands on the basic story of Noragami, presenting more character development for Yato and even delves into the turbulent world of gods and spirits. Beyond the crisp and clean animation that we’ve come to expect from Bones, Noragami’s second season delivers dark and complex themes of human existence and a need for belonging, intertwined with flashy fight sequences. Dramatic and emotional plot points are interposed with lighthearted humor that makes an overall entertaining experience. This is exactly where it is similar with Bungo Stray Dogs: the presentation. Mixing a modern setting with otherworldly elements, both series can keep us on the edge of our seats while also delivering laughs through interesting characters, dynamically brought to life by great voice actors.
Bungo Stray Dogs can be translated from Japanese to “Literary Masters Stray Dogs.” With a tiny bit of digging or some intimate knowledge of Japanese literature, you’ll realize that many characters are named after famous, usually Japanese, authors. For example, the charismatic Dazai Osamu is named after a famous author of one of the most popular novels in Japanese history, No Longer Human, which is also the name of the character’s special ability. Even some of his character traits come from the man himself or his semi-autobiographical characters. Dazai, the author, was thought to be obsessed with the theme of suicide, which often appeared in his works and ultimately became the end to his life. This may bring new light to some of the amazing personalities and even more amazing special talents of the Armed Detective Agency and their territorial rival, the Port Mafia. Yes, the author Nakajima Atsushi wrote about a weretiger, and Kunikida Doppo was indeed a poet famous for naturalism. Similarly, Tanizaki Junichiro, also named after a famous author, wrote Chijin no ai, which became known in English as Naomi, the name of its sexually aggressive titular character. Such leanings are seen in the Bungo Stray Dogs character Tanizaki Naomi, who relentlessly pursues her brother. Such deep connections to Japanese literature aren’t a first for anime. In 2009, Madhouse produced anime adaptations of some modern classics in Japanese literature, including Dazai Osamu’s No Longer Human. The Aoi Bungaku series also includes works from Akutagawa Ryunosuke, if that name rings a bell. Watching Aoi Bungaku will give you a closer adapted look at the works of these two great authors. With dark but intoxicating storylines, you’ll discover an interesting perspective on these literary masters, who became inspirations of the main men of Bungo Stray Dogs and their supernatural abilities.
Blood Blockade Battlefront will appear very similar to Bungo Stray Dogs straight from its synopsis. Easily excitable but otherwise normal, Leonardo Watch is very much down and out in Hellsalem’s Lot, formally New York City, until he finds himself becoming involved with Libra, a strange crew of supernatural humans who use blood battle techniques, which look just as flashy as the flashy names that describe them. Leonardo Watch also has his own supernatural ability: the “All–seeing Eyes of the Gods.” He joins Libra in their fight against evils that have entered NYC from the Beyond. Much like Bungo Stray Dogs, each character stands out in his or her own right, with striking personalities and abilities. The leader of Libra, Klaus von Reinherz, could be best buds with Kunikida Doppo in personality and fashion. Klaus has many funny interactions with his more eccentric troublemaker coworker, Zapp Renfro, who becomes somewhat of a mentor to the younger Leonardo. An assertion in Bungo Stray Dogs is absolutely correct for Blood Blockade Battlefront: People with supernatural abilities are a little off. Libra is a much bigger and better funded operation than the Armed Detective Agency, but a fun mix of characters brings a lot of laughs intertwined with the gorgeous action sequences, not surprisingly, also produced by Bones.
Okay, we swear this is the last Bones produced anime for this list, but they really know what their doing with this kind of story. Takigawa Yoshino is an average high school boy, but one day his world is turned black. His girlfriend Aika is murdered. His girlfriend’s brother Fuwa Mahiro disappears, only to literally pop back into his life, now wielding magical power granted to him by a sorceress. Yoshino is ready to leave his town behind, as Mahiro embarks on a path of vengeance over his sister’s death. Yet, Yoshino just can’t leave Mahiro be. He turns back to help his friend and also uncover the truth around Aika’s death. There is a lot of beautiful action and beautiful boys, but it would be a shame to say that’s all that these two have in common. Bungo Stray Dogs and Zetsuen no Tempest are worlds that are inexplicably ruled by the supernatural. Nonetheless, there is also a strong logical framework in which the characters live. Nakajima Atsushi feels abandoned by the world and often feels undeserving of companionship due to his unfortunate past. Likewise, Yoshino is haunted by feelings of loss and futility. Will both of these tragic characters be able to resolve their pasts? O, if such a destiny comes to pass!
Unlike most on this list, Kyousou Giga is not necessarily similar to Bungo Stray Dogs in plot, in which a young male protagonist joins a personality-diverse team of almost crazies with supernatural powers. The main character of Kyousou Giga is a teenage girl named Koto, who crash-lands into a world inside a picture while chasing a black rabbit. Koto is an orphan, similar to Atsushi-kun, and she eventually finds a family within the picture. Here, Kyousou Giga is an opposing reflection of Bungo Stray Dogs, because Koto is the eccentric one and ends up having her pseudo-caretaker getting mixed up in her own group of crazies. You’ll find a particular stylistic similarity with Bungo Stray Dogs, namely the use of title cards used as captions in the first episode. In Bungo Stray Dogs, these name cards are similar to writing grids that Japanese students use for composition. In Kyousou Giga, the name cards are in the style of traditional calligraphy. Where Bungo Stray Dogs pays homage to modern Japanese literature, Kyousou Giga pays homage instead to Japanese folklore and stories in the Buddhist tradition. The similarities don’t stop there! The series has a lot of heavy and entertaining fight scenes, mixed in with deep personal conflicts of heart, and topped off with giant helpings of humor. Now, which does that sentence describe, Bungo Stray Dogs or Kyousou Giga? That’s right! It describes both! Kyousou Giga is a good series to help you with your Bungo Stray Dogs withdrawal and give you all the giddy feels you’re dying for.
Durarara is a fan favorite here at Honey’s, just like Bungo Stray Dogs! Seriously though, they have more similarities than that little superficial fact. In the modern Japanese town of Ikebukuro, there are strange supernatural happenings getting all the kiddies excited. With rumors of growing gangs and a headless female biker, Ryuugamine Mikado finds himself moving to the big city in search for a more exciting life. This, of course, is different from Atsushi in Bungo Stray Dogs, who only wishes for a calm life and a comfortable amount of money to live on. Yet, both of these protagonists find themselves getting involved in the supernatural and having a much bigger role than they imagined in the happenings of their respective cities. While we peek into the lives of a headless horseman turned biker or an unreasonably strong bouncer, who really needs anger management, we are met with some pretty eye-enticing action scenes; but, much like Bungo Stray Dogs, Durarara really shines in its comedic attitude. We can’t help but laugh with and root for all of the many interesting characters in this anime. As an added bonus, if you’ve found yourself the newest fan of Dazai Osamu’s voice actor, Miyano Mamoru, we have some great news for you! Miyano is also the voice of Mikado’s best friend, Kida Misaomi. In a similar fashion to Dazai, Kida-kun introduces Mikado to all the interesting things and people in his new home.
But I really want more Bungo Stray Dogs. There is truly nothing we can do with how fast time can past, but these anime will definitely help while you wait for the next episode to be broadcast. With series like Noragami, Blood Blockade Battlefront, and Zetsuen no Tempest, Bungo Stray Dogs is the result of Bones’ hard-earned experience in these kinds of stories. Checking out all of them, you can really watch the development of the Bones’ style up until now. If you want the same feeling but not the exact same situation, Kyousou Giga and Durarara!! are here for you! Of course, if you want to geek out and dig into the background of the famous names of the Bungo Stray Dogs, look no further than Aoi Bungaku. Enjoy!
When are you struck by disgust? When you are, do you react in horror or in laughter? The idea of being shown something alien to your daily life is a common feature of storytelling and anime is certainly no exception. In fact, there is a sizeable portion of keen anime fans who actively seek out the horrifying and the exotic. This article is a love letter to them. However, note that this article chooses not to include some of the more progressive sexual themes in anime in our consideration of what is disgusting. One may not find Koi Kaze or Hourou Musuko to be very appetising when it comes to challenging our view of appropriate sexual relationships or gender identity, but there is nothing that can be described as inherently disgusting about such works. Instead, this article focuses on the immediate impact of the “what the hell did I just watch” factor in certain shows that no one wants to tell their friends they watched. For anime, disgusting shows often come hand-in-hand with scenes that aim to disturb because of its narrative effect rather than purely through aesthetics. Each selection will take into account the relevant context of the disgusting elements and leave to our readers to make your own judgement. A deliberate attempt has been made to touch on well-known shows before gradually introducing some of the lesser known, more exotic works that has come out of the industry. So, without further ado, let us present Honey’s Anime’s selection for the Top 10 Disgusting Anime.
What, Psycho-Pass?! Savvy readers who already watched this brilliance of a TV anime show might’ve been so immersed in one of the most riveting anime narratives of this decades to remember how disturbing some of the earlier stories had been. Possibly to fit his gory and almost nihilistic writing style to the TV airwaves, the first half of Psycho-Pass is a collection of Gen Urobuchi’s imaginatively violent murders ranging from our first exposure to death by molecular deconstruction (through the Dominators used by our protagonists) to sawing up a corpse so that it can be flushed into a toilet bowl. Admittedly, Psycho-Pass is among Urobuchi’s tamer works, especially compared to almost all of his prolific visual novels. However, it is possibly his most gut-churning anime as you realise that one of the victims in the show ended up with their legs attached to where their arms are supposed to connect with their shoulders, in an almost beautifying way no less.
16 year old Akira Tsubaki gets into a relationship with fellow classmate and loner Mikoto Urabe. Having a setup so similar to many anime romances, it shouldn’t be wrong for any innocent viewer to assume that this show is about Akira and Mikoto’s adorable couplehood and their learning to come into terms with being with one another. Well, they wouldn’t be wrong either… However, Nazo no Kanojo X is especially disconcerting because the entire basis of the main couple’s relationship and sexual attraction to one another is based on them dwelling (both mentally and very, very graphically) on each other’s spit. There’s an element of rawness in the show’s frank depiction of Akira and Mikoto’s pent up frustration despite the Ghibli-inspired fantastical aesthetics, giving an almost poetic meaning to their salivary exchanges as they learn to accept the weirdness in their significant other. Whether it is appealing to watch is something we have decide on our own. Watching Nazo no Kanojo X is akin to visiting your neighbours and then absolutely enjoying yourself as their puppy runs enthusiastically onto your lap, only for you to realise in horror that his entire body is covered in the stink of his uncleaned waste. You can definitely learn to ignore the stench and enjoy his antics, but that would definitely be more of a compliment to your strength of mind.
Shiki is an anime about vampires. Not many vampire anime exist, and among the most popular shows of the past decade are a shoujo love story and a high school romantic comedy. In stark contrast to its motif predecessors, Shiki tells a story of the conflicts between the humans and ‘shiki’, long-living vampiric creatures, in a rural Japanese village that escalates into a desperate war of survival at the cost of morality and compassion. The show does a great job of making every death count. While Shiki resembles a horror show more than anything else in the first half of its run, there comes a point when the viewer is no longer astonished by the vampires but instead by the sheer violence that both sides are capable of. In one particular scene, village doctor Toshio Ozaki becomes so consumed with his hate for the ‘shiki’ that he heartlessly dissects one of their kind both in our and his conscious victim’s view. The scene, in all its disturbing glory, ends up being a turning point in demonstrating to us that some of the most disgusting and revolting conflicts are those of when people try to regain their normal lives.
Not often in fiction does sex and violence get to the point of actually disgusting its audience. Elfen Lied accomplishes this in the beginning 10 minutes of its first episode, and continues doing so for the rest of its one-cour runtime. Just like Shiki, Elfen Lied thrives on contrasting moments of normality with unnerving images of supernatural forces at work. The anime builds upon its beginning moments of security guards being flinged about like bloody pinatas by heroine Lucy’s psychic hands that it almost has no choice but to go further into the deep end as the episodes go by. In fact, Elfen Lied is so good at doing this that it challenges our ability to stomach violence through gratuitous scenes of on animal beatings and premature girls being systematically tortured, both vivid enough to induce some vomiting from less resilient viewers. There is little reason to Elfen Lied’s violence, which makes it all the more disgusting as you realise the meaninglessness of the characters’ suffering. However, as a piece of anime history and a focal point to the levels of gore that a TV anime is capable of, Elfen Lied is a benchmark that deserves its recognition.
Most people have no idea that ufotable made Gyo, but everyone who does know about Gyo probably came across it by accident or knew about the manga that it was adapted from. Released as an hour long OVA, Gyo resembles the horror rental tapes that one might grab for a nice weekend with friends. As one of the more straightforward anime of this list, it really is a surprise that Gyo isn’t better known among anime watchers; it could easily earn a cult following by horror fans who can stomach some of its more repulsive imagery. Gyo also happens to be the kind of monster-on-man show that is deeply interested in showing the gritty physical detail of engaging in combat with armies of shark-cyborg mutants, where even a single scratch reduces you to a zombie-like sea monster. Somewhat ironically, Gyo actually tells a very compelling story of survival and loss, making it quite an impressive feat of where anime makes good use of disgusting elements for an intriguing viewing experience. Feel free to utilise this anime for a memorable bonding experience with the braver ones among your good friends.
With violence being such a common tool in fictional media to impress viewers, it takes a special something for today’s anime fans for anime violence to be described as disgusting. With Blood-C, it is the ridiculous level of creativity put into scenes of its monsters massacring the human population that immediately puts it above the two other mainstream anime featuring gratuitous violence. Bringing back to life a franchise with a dedicated cult following that started with the much-loved Blood: The Last Vampire anime film, Blood-C throws you for a loop by an nausea inducing dichotomy between awkward school life scenes and exaggerated levels of blood spilling. While this alone might be traumatising to dedicated franchise fans, the really disgusting aspect of the show are the scenes of otherworldly monstrosities indiscriminately killing innocent civilian. Whether it is people getting ripped apart at the limbs, skewered like hot snack or made into a torrent of bloody fluid as though in a blender, Blood-C finds a way to put you in awe from the sheer creativity of its violence while simultaneously forcing your eyes away from the monitor. Blood-C is the kind of anime that is perfect material to make .gif files and freak out your friends with. No one who enjoys a decent story will put themselves through it, but it does do a good job of showing how modern anime can push the limits of what makes it to the air waves.
Abunai Sisters is one of those things that no one wants to recognise as an anime, but is considered so because it was made under prolific animation studio Production I.G. The studio is best known for making great anime like Ghost in the Shell and Psycho-Pass about important things like human identity and social disorder. On the other hand, Abunai Sister is a not so great CGi-made anime about not so important issues, like Koko and Mika’s ridiculous breast physics and antagonists who obsess over them. It’s also fluently voiced in English, which is interesting since the dialogue is obviously trenched in Japanese syntax. For the most part, Abunai Sister entertains through the ridiculousness of its aesthetics and the shallowness of its story. However, this backfires by how unappealing absolutely everything about it is, from the physical appearance of Koko and Mika to the repulsive attempts at fanservice throughout the show. There is something innately disgusting about a fanservice show that is so ugly that one can only enjoy it in an ironic sense, which is made even worse when one realises that there is absolutely no point to the entire show other than inducing a few cheap laughs. In a sense, Abunai Sister subverts sexuality by making all elements of it in the show as disgusting as possible. However, describing it as such is a generous evaluation of the anime’s intellectual value.
Lasting only 3 minutes as a single episode OVA, Utsu Musume Sayuri is the shortest entry on this list by length. Despite so, it may very well be the most immediately disturbing from the moment the you are introduced to the titular Sayuri and her deformed family members, who from what any viewer can tell is part of Sayuri’s own body. The plot for this anime is simple; Sayuri, a creature consisting of many horrifying physical features is told by her family to “hit” another horrifying creature, and she does. That’s literally it. Of course, since this anime is so short, introducing Sayuri and her family takes nearly half of its entire runtime and is just as disturbing as anything else there is to see. So little makes sense about this show that it ends up sticking to the mind as an amalgamation of all disgusting behaviour imaginable, compressed into a single act lacking any rhyme or reason and provides no closure to the horror that just a glance of this anime exposes you to.
Visual novels are infamous for birthing fictional works that depict violent and disturbing fetishisations of sex, albeit with countless counterexamples of great writing in the same medium. Euphoria is a strange animal in the sense that it is without a doubt a hideous culmination of sexual extremity and torturous behaviour, but is also recognised for its smart writing. The anime, being a low production value hentai OVA, has less of the latter while retaining the most disgusting aspects of the original game. Some of you braver readers might have taken the initiative to check out the first episode and might be thinking, how does this any worse than any of the shows above? Well, resilient readers, do be aware that the first episode is alike a roller coaster building up for speed, escalating higher and higher before it all comes crashing down into loops of excretion-infused coupling and hyper-violent fetishisation forced on unwilling high school students, all in the name of surviving a crazy game that no one involved understands. Even the more venturous of anime fans will need a bucket nearby in case they can’t stomach their disgust hearing the desperate cries of the more vulnerable female characters. Even your sympathy for the hesitant protagonist, who carries out all of these acts, will wane as he adapts emotionally to the role of being a antagonistic deviant. Those who are looking for an entry point to the dark side of anime need look no further, for Euphoria is the disgust-inducing gem of the industry that awaits your curiosity.
The truth is, if this had been a list about the Top 10 Disgusting Manga, we would have came up with a much darker, much less appealing list of works. As such, it only makes sense that the top of our current list is an anime adaptation of a kamishibai (literally “paper drama”) story of young Midori during the Showa-period of Japan, who loses her parents and is forced to a position of slavery in a freak circus. That being said, this is a particularly unappetising work that cannot be recommended in good faith to anyone, and as thus its entry in this list serves as a way of your avoidance from sheer nightmare-fuel. The anime depicts in vivid detail and avant-garde creativity of Midori’s sexual and emotional abuse under a number of physically deformed circus performers with heavy use of psychotic imagery, often to the point of grotesque sex scenes that does not excite in the slightest. It therefore follows that Director Hiroshi Harada single-handedly drew the entire film after having failed to gather a proper production staff. Fortunately (or unfortunately for those forced into watching the film), this means that viewers get the complete experience of Harada’s artistic expression, which he certainly puts into use throughout scene after grotesque scene of abstract personal horror and disgusting renditions of intercourse between numerous couples. As much as this anime can be considered in either extremes as self-contained trash production or a pure expression of art, it is a dire challenge to the viewer’s stomach as well as to their sanity. There is no pleasure whatsoever to be gained from watching Shoujo Tsubaki as it is occupies a space in creative expression devoid of any intention of being entertaining. Instead, it forcefully expands the viewer’s worldview of what is possible of human imagination while raising very significant questions of how far one creator must be in a dark tunnel to be so dedicated in completing an anime that no one can possibly enjoy.
To those of you who looked forward to Boku no Pico, it didn’t make the list because it’s nothing more than vanilla shounen-ai/shota material. As unusually as it is, it’s entry barrier and reputation seems to be a result of myth and hearsay, rather than because of any specific demerit giving it an aspect of disgust. Well, unless if you really don’t like that sort of thing. Writing this list presented the difficulty of introducing shows that left a particularly bad impression, and this writer has to assert that the higher placing anime really should be avoided for those looking to perform normally in your daily lives. Readers who are looking for an exotic taste of what anime has to offer should feel free to check out any of the titles in the first half of the list, and save some of the bottom half for when free time becomes abundant and fresh ideas stop coming. Is there a more suitable anime for this list? Do you have something to share about any of the entries? Let us know in the comment section below.
Spring 2016 has brought us a wide-variety of ecchi anime and with that you should expect some disappointments, but also anime that exceeds expectations. We here at Honey’s Anime feel that Netoge no Yome wa Onnanoko ja Nai to Omotta? fits the latter of that statement. We understand that it’s only 1/3 of the way completed, so we can’t get too carried away. However, from what we have seen from this anime, we should be in for a treat going forward. It’s already had some great club moments and enough MMORPG action to keep the gaming audience happy. Oh, and did I mention a fair share of fanservice and comedy?! Harem, laughs, games and action is what you should expect from this list. Now, without further ado we are pleased to present you with a list of anime that has impactful similarities to Netoge no Yome wa Onnanoko ja Nai to Omotta?
This anime just finished up not too long ago, so you might already be familiar with this, if not here is what it’s about. A high school student by the name of Kazuma Satou was on his way home from a video game store, eager to play his new game. However before he could enjoy that game, he had a tough decision to make. After a heroic choice made on his part, he tragically ends up dying. He soon reawakens in the afterlife and is given an option from an attractive female by the name of Aqua, to either go straight to heaven or be sent to a new world to take down a demon king. This starts young Kazuma on an adventure of a life time (literally). Instantly from watching this anime you’re going to see a strong connection between the main character and his RPG video game. Not only does he choose to be a shut-in, but he’s also enamored into that genre, just like the main character, Hideki Nishimura from Netoge no Yome wa Onnanoko ja Nai to Omotta? Another quick turnout for this anime is, the harem aspect that Kazuma quickly finds himself in after he decides to take Aqua with him to this new world. It’s not a bad way to go about given his situation; it’s something Hideki knows all too well. Finally, Kazuma’s connection with his games leads him to implement strategies and other choices that he can take and use in this new world he now has to deal with. Who would have thought that his extensive time gaming would lead him to be better prepared for this journey in the afterlife?
Here we are with another anime that just ended in April! Phantasy Star Online 2 was recently released in Japan on the PS4 on April 20th of this year and it had been on the PC as early as 2012. Fans of that game series won’t even need to watch the entire anime to correlate the resemblance it has with Netoge no Yome wa Onnanoko ja Nai to Omotta? The characters are faced between real life and a video game world. Both main characters of their respected anime have a girl chasing after them. A lot of the action in both anime take place in-game and tell some compelling stories between the party and peers. They both also include a gaming club, in order to grind out and achieve a higher level in-game. If you’re unfamiliar with the game or the anime, we’ve got you covered *ahem*. Itsuki Tachibana is a perfect high school student in almost every way. He gets exceptional grades, he has perfect attendance, and the only thing he didn’t involve himself with was this game called Phantasy Star Online 2. He never considered himself to be a gamer in any way, but that all changed one day when he attracted the attention of student council president Rina Izumi. She recruits him to become the vice president of the student council and to keep an eye out on the student body that is playing Phantasy Star Online 2. Because she is so busy, she wants to know from Itsuki if the game is affecting them negatively. The only catch is, he will now have to learn how to play in order to accomplish that goal Rina set him up with.
This anime is based around a distinctive individual by the name of Kodaka Hasegawa, who recently transferred to a new high school. It wasn’t long before he was labeled a “delinquent” and feared from his fellow peers because of his unique blonde hair and tough looking face. One day he meets a female student by the name of Yozora, who has a bad temper and imaginary friend. As you can imagine, she doesn’t have too many friends herself. So they decide that it would be in their best interest to form a club. Thus the “Neighbors Club” is born and both Yozora and Kodaka add new members along the way in hopes to finally make some new friends, using this club as fuel. Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai or Haganai for some, has a lot of the same qualities from Netoge no Yome wa Onnanoko ja Nai to Omotta? For starters, the atmosphere from the high schools and school clubs are fixtures for both series. The Neighbors Club has some variety to the subject matter and it’s not limited to, but does include gaming. For instance, in Haganai there are times when the club is playing an RPG and it shifts their perspective right into the game world, as if they were actually fighting in it. Both anime carry the harem aspect down splendidly, however Haganai to this point has more ecchi moments. They both experience a gender bending situation throughout. Akane Segawa, for instance has a male character in-game but is a female in real life, unbeknownst to Hideki, initially. In Haganai a large portion of the show has a certain club member who is categorized as a male in stories and games, but they later find out it was not what they had imagined.
Virtual reality has advanced immensely by the year 2022 and a new virtual reality RPG was created by the name of Sword Art Online. “NerveGear”, a technology known to allow it’s users to take control of their avatar in-game by just mere thoughts. The majority of this anime takes place in the game world and depicts their characters in a similar fashion to Netoge no Yome wa Onnanoko ja Nai to Omotta? Kazuto Kirigaya, a gaming enthusiast was fortunate enough to get his hands on the beta for the game. It seems all well and good, until he realizes that you are not able to log out of the game until you have completed all one hundred levels. What’s most alarming is that if Kazuto dies in the game, he will die in real life. What an undesirable position he finds himself in! Like most of these anime on this list; Sword Art Online took its source material from a light novel. Netoge no Yome wa Onnanoko ja Nai to Omotta? was no different in that regard. While Sword Art Online is less comedy driven, both anime present some excellent fantasy-action in their respected games. Kazuto Kirigaya and Hideki Nishimura, may be playing their games under a different set of circumstances, but undoubtedly you feel the same sense of unity and teamwork throughout. If you’re seeking another harem, Sword Art Online is well suited to fit your needs.
Kyousuke Kousaka considers himself to be an average guy, in terms of looks and grades. His overachieving little sister Kirino, doesn’t care too much for her brother. As they got older, they happened to grow apart from each other. One day, he bumped into his sister and found an ero-game inside a different game case and much to his astonishment; it was a part of his sister’s collection. When Kyousuke confronts Kirino about it, all she can do is tell him to keep her otaku life secret from everyone at school. I mean, she’s a professional model after all; she can’t let her peers know of her nerd life. The certain attitude and willingness to keep her nerd life separate in school, is very reminiscent of Akane Segawa from Netoge no Yome wa Onnanoko ja Nai to Omotta? They both shun the otaku life at school but in reality, they love it very much. They seem to thrive on their double-life personas. Both girls have a tsundere-like personality towards the other main characters, Kirino to Kyousuke and Akane to Hideki. Those similarities can’t go unnoticed. The other critical comparison is the understanding that Kirino has between the real world and the fictional world of her ero-games, which she makes her older brother play. Both anime also deliver offline-meet ups, giving a sense to the audience where these anime are heading.
Yuuta Togashi, a high school teen, who used to have delusions of being a “Dark Flame Master” was quickly isolated from the rest of his peers, when most of them found him to be an oddity. Yuuta tried to put the past behind him and wanted to start fresh at a new school. What he encountered was a teenaged girl by the name Rikka Takanashi, who also happens to share similar delusions. With that, Yuuta struggles to fight off a dark past that he thought was history. So let’s bring some clarity to everyone. We have both male and female teenagers who can’t distinguish properly between reality and fantasy. Does that sound familiar? If it doesn’t, it should! Both Ako and Hideki share that mindset, Hideki to a lesser extent but it’s still present. Misapprehension is not the only thing Rikka shares with Ako. They both have very comparable hair color to one another. Continuing with the likeness between anime, a school club and harem are relevant to each story. The universal theme between the two is strongly emphasized in the main characters mind-sets about their distinct misunderstanding of reality and fantasy.
