Discussion Time

Emma, Ray, and Norman are up against demons…yet they still smile which truly amazes us. Digressing, today we’re looking at Yakusoku no Neverland chapter 167 and we have to give up to this series…never a dull moment. Our children have barricaded themselves and the demons are convinced they still have the upper hand on the kids. As Emma screams out to begin “this game of tag” our fight begins and the children emerge from their hideaway! With their weapons, the human children unleash a hailstorm on the demons but with little result. The game seems to meet a quick end when the kids get cornered off by a dead end but we learn several children have begun to hack the security control! Some more intense fighting continues and we have a small victory for the trio, Peter Ratri has been located! The demons continue to chase the “livestock” but soon realize they have fallen for yet another trap. As they enter a wide-open room children reinforcement arrive and unleash some devastation on the demons! As the kids admit, the goal isn’t to kill the demons but to buy them enough time to reach Peter and end him! Can our humans win this tough war? We shall find out soon until then let us convince you why missing this chapter of Yakusoku no Neverland is a truly bad decision!

Why You Should Read Yakusoku no Neverland (The Promised Neverland) Chapter 167
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="viz" url="https://www.viz.com/read/manga/promised-neverland-volume-12/product/6058" ]

1. Commencing Tag!

In many ways, chapter 167 tries to remind us readers where this story started. Ray, Norman, and Emma used to play tag with the others to see who could outsmart one another first and ultimately who could escape. Our kids are playing tag again and while the stakes might be higher, the game hasn’t changed.

2. Reinforcements!

Many of you reading probably wondered what the kids were doing running around aimlessly. If you knew our trio of intellects then you also knew they had a plan of attack. Luring the demons to one big room and unleashing an attack from reinforcements hiding in the dark allowed them to make way towards Peter Ratri and end this battle…once and for all!

Final Thoughts

Yakusoku no Neverland 167 was a truly exciting chapter that gripped us from page one and didn’t let go. We can’t wait to see if the kids can reach Peter before the demons get ahold of them! What do you readers think will happen next in Yakusoku no Neverland? Comment below to let us know! Stick around our amazing hive for even more manga chapter reviews done by us here at Honey’s Anime!

Sygna Suit Red & Charizard Now Available

Legends Only | Red and Charizard enter the fray in Pokémon Masters!
  • As previously teased, the wait is finally over as Red & Charizard join Pokémon Masters as a sync pair. This version of Red dons his Sygna Suit, a special outfit that Trainers can wear into battle on the island of Pasio. A unique feature of this sync pair, shared only by a few others such as Korrina & Lucario, Blue & Pidgeot, and Steven & Metagross, is that Charizard transforms into Mega Charizard X after executing a sync move. While Sygna Suit Red & Charizard will permanently be added to the game, players will have a higher chance of obtaining this sync pair in the limited time “Poké Fair Scout + Present,” available from February 27 at 10:00PM Pacific time to March 15 at 10:59PM Pacific time.
  • Chapters 22 – 24 Added to the Story—Get Valerie & Sylveon

  • Three new story chapters will be added to the Main Story of the game at February 27 at 10:00 Pacific time, allowing players to continue the story of Pokémon Masters and play up to Chapter 24. Completing these new story chapters will also allow players to add the sync pair of Valerie & Sylveon to their team.
  • More Pokémon Evolutions Added

  • New evolution sync pair stories have been added, allowing more Pokémon the opportunity to evolve in the game. For example, Oshawott can now evolve to Dewott and Samurott, Whirlipede to Scolipede, Espurr to Meowstic, Palpitoad to Seismitoad, Cranidos to Rampardos, Ponyta to Rapidash, Makuhita to Hariyama, Nosepass to Probopass, and many more.
  • Battle Villa, Single Player Gauntlet-Style Survival Mode, Added

  • Battle Villa is a new game mode where every choice matters. In this new mode, players will battle against AI opponents to see how many total stages they can clear during the two weeks of a Battle Villa being open. While a player’s progress will carry over day to day, players will only be able to battle with a select number of sync pairs each day. The inaugural Battle Villa will be open from February 27 at 10:00PM Pacific time to March 15 at 10:59PM Pacific time for those that have completed Chapter 7 of the Main Story. Future Battle Villas will periodically open in the game.
  • New Story Event Features Sygna Suit Elesa & Rotom

Six Months of Sync Pairs in Pokémon Masters! A new type of story event titled “Shining Star” will feature the professional model of the Unova region, Elesa. Instead of the traditional Story Mission-style format that players are used to, players will have to battle against AI opponents and traverse a series of maps in order to progress the story. Only players who have completed Chapter 1 of the Main Story are eligible to participate in “Shining Star.” Sygna Suit Elesa & Rotom will also be featured in the “Sygna Suit Elesa Spotlight Scout.” Both the story event and the spotlight scout will be available from February 27 at 10:00PM Pacific time to March 15 at 10:59PM Pacific time.

Professor Oak & Mew Still Available to Add

  • This sync pair will be distributed to all players that have logged into the game and completed the tutorial before March 15 at 10:59PM Pacific time. This marks the first time in the Pokémon games that Professor Oak will join the battle as a Pokémon Trainer.
  • Free Gems to Celebrate Six Months Since the Launch of Pokémon Masters

  • To commemorate the release date of Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green in Japan 24 years ago, players who login to the game before March 15 at 10:59PM Pacific time will receive a one-time gift of 3,000 free gems. Players that login each day prior to this date will also be able to receive up to 3,000 additional free gems, given out in celebration of six months since the launch of Pokémon Masters.

    UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH Exe:Late[cl-r] - Launch Trailer

    Who it Caters to

Fighting games are in somewhat of a complicated timeframe at the moment, with so many being out on the market and players not really knowing which one(s) suit their needs. You have the more realistic fighting styles of Tekken 7, and on the other end of that spectrum, there are the fast-paced and chaotic anime fighters like Dragon Ball FighterZ that are slowly becoming the norm. Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r] however finds itself fit snuggly between these two avenues, as it incorporates straightforward gameplay with fantastic mechanics, along with enough depth and action to keep fighting game fans immersed for hours. It’s not too fast to overwhelm you and not too realistic that it contains way too many moves that require memorization, it’s well-executed in a delightful way. The series, for many years, has been overshadowed by various other popular fighters like the ones we’ve already mentioned, along with the iconic Street Fighter V, Guilty Gear, among many others. So Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r] is 2020’s latest gem and our only question is, will it continue to shine on for many more? Keep reading to find out.

    What to Expect

Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r] is the latest version to the popular Under Night In-Birth series, which continues to thrive in various ways due to its attractive cast of characters, all of whom have their own unique fighting styles and mechanics to utilize. Those who have dabbled with the previous installment Under Night In-Birth Exe: Late[st] will easily come to realize that much of cl-r is very much the same on the surface in terms of visuals, albeit a plethora of changes in terms of character balance, additional moves, as well as the new character Londrekia. The popular Chronicle Mode for the more casual player has also received an update which is a plus in that regard. Those who already own the previous installment will receive Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r] as a free update, while a standalone version is available for players who are picking it up for the first time.
    [ad_top2 class="mt40 mb40"]

    Visuals

As mentioned in the previous paragraph, Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r] remains largely untouched in the visual area, albeit a few tweaks here and there for overall presentation purposes. The menu screen once you jump in is organized, and players new to the game can easily sift through each option to find what they’re looking for. As we typically play Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r] in the arcade, there didn’t seem to be any major standout differences compared to the console version, so in the end, as we said, just some quality of life changes in this department which is a plus. We should mention however that the new intro to the game is perhaps one of the main changes, which looks spectacular and comes with a brand new theme song titled, “False Infinite Parallel.”

    Sound, Music

Everything regarding sound, much like its visuals, remain very much the same. The addition of both the new intro and theme for Londrekia is a nice treat, but every other character in the game hasn’t received anything special in this area. At times it did seem like a lot of attacks came with a different sound effect when connecting with opponents, like Enkidu’s newly improved 66C (pretty much forward > forward C) but maybe that’s just us. The menu theme is still the same and no new additions made to character voicing which can be seen as good or bad, depending on the perspective of the person. Some change is always good but when a game is already so well polished, there really isn’t any need to ruin the experience.

    Gameplay

That brings us to the gameplay, the most important aspect when playing fighting games and the main focal point of this review. Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r] as we mentioned earlier, is the expansion from late[st] and comes with a variety of new options for players already well-versed in the game to take advantage of. Think of it as extra icing on the already delicious cake and you get to gobble all of it up at your own pace. Enkidu has been my main character since late[st] and was very notorious for being arguably the worst character in that iteration. The main reason was that his moves didn’t allow for consistent pressure and thus, his options to stay glued to his opponents were limited, especially against the more offensive-heavy characters like Seth, Yuzuriha, Phonon, and more. Enkidu is a character that specializes in hard reads and pressuring his opponents once he gets close enough to establish control. Now in Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r] Enkidu feels like an entirely different beast, with his aforementioned 66C granting him an enormous amount of pressure on block, and helping him to extend his combos for more damage. A lot of his moves now are plus on block and hit which once again allow him to maintain pressure once he’s in your face, and deal enormous amounts of damage. Happy times for all Enkidu mains! We can’t speak for all characters however but we can imagine that players and their respective main characters will come to discover that the balance changes were either in their favor or not.
The training mode for all characters still looked and felt very much the same, with the exception of Londrekia since he’s, of course, the new addition. For new players, this training mode is hands down one of the best in any fighting game, as it presents players with a general breakdown of what each move does, an explanation about mechanics, and missions for players to take advantage of in order to learn combos and develop muscle memory. The main issue with Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r] however, and this is universal among most fighting games on the market currently, is its online functionality, or lack thereof. Firstly, Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r] remains largely untouched in this area which surprised us because, for a major update like this, we’d expect things like a much-needed lobby system, a more sophisticated search algorithm for consistent player matches, and most importantly a smooth connection. We tested our connection from Japan to other parts of the world and while 8 frames is certainly a huge step forward from the previous 10-11 frames we endured in the previous installment, 8 is still absurd and unacceptable. Japan to Japan was definitely tweaked for the better and we had a much better experience in that regard, but overall we still felt the online infrastructure for Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r] was lacking.
    [ad_middle class="mt40 mb40"]

    Honey's Gameplay Consensus:

For a game with so much potential and a cast of characters that feel organic in every way, online always seems to rear its ugly head and reminds us that fighting games still need better netcode. Fortunately, the creator of Under Night In-Birth did state that GGPO was an option to implement since it’s now on the market as free-to-use, so hopefully, we’ll see some improvements in the future. Other than that, Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r] is a must-have fighting game for those entering the scene due to its easy learning curve, fantastic tutorials, great Chronicle Mode, and some of the best music you’ll ever hear in fighting games.

    Honey's Pros:

    • Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r] still looks and feels the same which is a plus, because the game has always performed well.
    • The new upgrades to characters with additional moves was an extra bonus we’re happy to accept!
    • Chronicle Mode received a nice improvement and casual players coming into the game can use it to develop an understanding of the lore.

    Honey's Cons:

    • It’s 2020, please get it right with online matchmaking please. No sophisticated lobby systems are why newer players often leave the scene, because it’s hard to find players at their level.

    Honey's Final Verdict:

Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r], in spite of its lack of online features, plays incredibly well offline in a tournament setting where it shines wonderfully. Not taking any extra risks to make unnecessary changes was a very smart move, only throwing in a few updates to give the game a fresh feel. In the end, we’re totally happy with Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r] and look forward to watching it at EVO 2020 this year, where it will officially be on the main stage! Until next time!

BOFURI: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense (or Bofuri for short) is the latest in a long line of isekai anime coming down the pipe recently. However, unlike so many other forgettable shows, this anime is well worth a watch because of its precious protagonist who breaks all of the normal conventions of the genre in the name of having a good time. Here’s why you NEED to watch Bofuri!

    [signSpoiler] [ad_top2 class="mt40"]

Playing a Game “Wrong” Has Never Felt So Right

    [sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="KAXA-7911" text="" url="" ]

Bofuri, in the same vein as Sword Art Online, is technically not an isekai—the characters are playing an immersive MMORPG called New World Online that is separate from their normal lives. But other than a few real-world segments, it plays out just like any other JRPG-inspired isekai. Maple starts out with very little gaming experience, so she decides to choose a shield-based class and put all of her skill points into defense in order to not take damage. She turns into an indestructible tank who can barely move or attack, but she doesn’t let this deter her and sets out to explore the world anyway. She stalls a poisonous dragon with healing potions until she can bite it to death and steal its power, and then finds a set of armor that lets her inflict counter damage on anything that attacks her. Once her friend Sally joins in, Maple abuses a protection spell to warp herself in front of Sally and keep up with her vastly superior speed. It’s objectively the wrong way to play a game like this, but Maple’s happy bumbling somehow nets her success and notoriety among the other players. It’s just plain nice to see someone having fun with a game and not worrying about min/maxing everything perfectly.

Everything is So Pure and Wholesome

Maple doesn’t know much about player interaction in online games, so she goes up to everyone she meets and tries to make friends. Shocked by her kindness, new and veteran users alike go along with her zany schemes and quickly discover that she’s a beautiful ray of sunshine in this cynical world. Her friend Sally is incredibly supportive, despite being a seasoned gamer herself, because everything Maple does seems to turn out well in the end. They form a guild called “Maple Tree” and recruit their entire ragtag group to live in a house carved out of a giant stump in the woods. Maple even has a pet turtle named Syrup who she gave the ability to grow to gigantic proportions and fly, just because she wanted to ride on its back. Can Maple just be our friend in real life?

Has the Potential for So Much More

It’s a shame that this anime only has 12 episodes because we could watch Maple and her buddies explore New World Online forever. The monster designs are creative, the characters are varied and entertaining, the top player Payne has an air of mystery about him, and we just can’t wait to see what new bizarre strategy Maple comes up with next. The light novel has plenty of content for a second season, so let’s hope that Silver Link gives us one in the near future!

    Final Thoughts

If you’re looking for a fluffy series about a relatable and drop-dead adorable girl who radiates sparkles and light wherever she goes, Bofuri is the anime for you this season. Even if you’re not normally a fan of the isekai genre, you should still give it a try! Maple would welcome you in a heartbeat. What did you think of our overview? Have you been watching Bofuri this season? Are you more of a Maple or a Sally when you play games? Let us know in the comments, and thanks so much for reading!

The classic bunny girl is a widely popular erotic fantasy that spans the globe. The most famous example being Hugh Hefner's Playboy Bunny. So it makes perfect sense for bunny girls to show up in hentai anime. Here's a list of ten of our favourites.

    [ad_top2 class="mt40 mb40"]

    10. Bible Black [Episode 1]

    [sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="DMM" url="https://www.dmm.co.jp/mono/anime/-/detail/=/cid=22dmlk7660" ]

The bunny girl in this series, Ito, is actually just a regular school girl. Her "bunny ears" are merely a fashion choice formed from a stiffened hair ribbon. Which is what the original Playboy bunnies did to make their "ears". Nevertheless, she still gets up to sexy fun. She is called to the school nurse's office for an "examination" of some kind. The nurse, Kitami, is secretly a witch. She uses her magical abilities to cast a spell on young Ito, driving her wild with carnal desire. After some intense nipple-teasing, she is literally begging the nurse to take her. Being a merciful witch, Kitami obliges and uses her magic to suddenly grow a penis. She thrusts deep into the eager student's now throbbing pussy, satisfying her magically-induced lustful urges.

    9. Boku to Misaki-sensei

It's normal for a lot of young boys to have crushes on their sexy teachers. It's a lot less normal for a very young boy to have wild kinky sex with his teacher! Misaki is a very large-breasted elementary school teacher who finds herself in a passionate sexual relationship with her young student, Yuu Kazama. One day they decide to try full-on kink with Misaki dressed as a sexy bunny girl and Yuu tying up her breasts in intricate knots with a thin rope. The young boy is having a blast, thrusting much more aggressively into his curvaceous teacher. She, on the other hand, is not. The combination of the rope biting into her soft flesh and seeing her usually sweet, caring student behaving this way is too much for her as she starts to cry. Feeling bad, Yuu removes the rope and takes her gently on the bed. Giving those large, soft pillows the care and attention they deserve.

    8. Namanaka Hyaku Percent!: Katamusubi no Shinpa [Episode 3]

In this scene, two sisters compete for the affection of the same guy, Touya. They decide to have a contest of which is the sexiest bunny girl. The older sister, Akane, already has the advantage of larger breasts. So she fills out the classical style bunny outfit very well. The younger sister, Akimi, compensates for her flat chest by showing off her cuteness. She swaps the sheer black stockings for white knee socks instead. The girls appear to have done some sort of research as they sprinkle in various facts about the nature of rabbits and their mating habits. Unable to decide between the two, he slides his hard cock against both sisters' wet pussies, stacked on top of each other. A fitting compromise!

    7. Tsuma to Mama to Boin (Cantaloupe Collector) [Episode 2]

While helping his neighbour move some boxes, Yuuichi accidentally gets to see Mrs. Tsubaki's entire underwear collection! Noticing her bunny outfit, he asks her to try it on for him. Seeing how embarrassed she is, he decides to reassure her by getting out his rock hard cock. The power of the bunny takes over as she is drawn to the large "carrot" in front of her. Hungry bunny rabbit that she is, she practically swallows his cock whole! One of the fun features of the more modern versions of the bunny outfit, is that the gusset is lined with poppers. Allowing much easier access to a bunny girl's rabbit hole! Mrs. Tsubaki takes full advantage of this and unbuttons hers in order to ride Yuuichi's carrot until it squirts again, this time all up her back!

    6. Wanna. SpartanSex Spermax!!! [Episode 2]

After being filmed while the gym teacher raped her, Shiori is blackmailed into having sex with a group of three men. Each guy requests that she wears a different outfit. A school P. E. uniform, naked with just a frilly pink apron on and a bunny girl costume. The one who chose the bunny outfit goes first. He aggressively grabs Shiori's head and forces her to suck his dick. She begs and pleads for him to stop, but this only makes him hotter. He gently pulls her costume to one side (must be old fashioned, no poppers) and then violently thrusts his thick cock deep inside her. Even as she objects to what's happening to her, her body can't help but react to the pleasurable sensation coursing through her body.

Student council president Ai Ninomiya comes from a wealthy family and is very popular at school. It seems she has it all. Until a boy she treated badly blackmails her into doing sexual favours for him. After being raped and then teased for an entire day with a vibrator inside her, by the time he forces her to dress as a bunny girl Ai actually enjoys discovering this new perverted side of herself. She uses her sheer stockings to give her abuser a silky foot job. Surprising herself, she actually starts to beg him to put his cock inside her pussy. Bending her over, he tears open her stockings and pushes his throbbing dick into her. She orgasms right away, with her student council subordinates watching her from outside.

Her bunny costume is a much more revealing version. The middle section has been entirely removed, exposing her breasts and stomach. As per Tatsuya's request to "act like a bunny", she literally bounces up and down on his cock. While showing off the power of her thighs, she makes adorable "pyon, pyon" sounds. They continue having sex for hours and hours, truly "doing it like rabbits"!

    • Airing Date : Comedy, Supernatural, School
    • Producers : Lerche

Despite its scatological name, Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun isn’t a gag series full of potty humor. It’s actually the charming tale of how an occult-loving high schooler named Nene meets Hanako-kun, a ghostly boy with a mysterious past who keeps the rest of the school’s apparitions in line with his wicked cunning and trusty kitchen knife. When she becomes indebted to him, Nene agrees to be his assistant—thus begins her new life of investigating supernatural rumors, saving her friends from wayward spirits, and learning more about the elusive Hanako-kun himself. This show has been criminally underwatched so far, so let us show you why you NEED to watch Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun!

    [signSpoiler] [ad_top2 class="mt40"]

    Gorgeous Motion Manga Inspired Animation

    [sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="PCBP-54265" text="" url="" ]

This anime is absolutely gorgeous, courtesy of Studio Lerche, which brought us last year’s Kanata no Astra as well as other hard hitters like Assassination Classroom and Danganronpa the Animation. The rich colors and thick lines make the simple chibi-esque characters stand out against the subtly surreal backgrounds, and even minor players like Nene’s friend Aoi have memorable designs. But the best part is the animation, which embraces style over frame-count by emulating motion manga. The visible sound effects, panel transitions, and elegantly bordered frames make for a unique experience that complements the supernatural storybook style of the show.

Engaging Characters That Capture Your Heart

It should be illegal for a ghost to be so charming that he sweeps not just the main character, but the audience off their feet. Hanako-kun’s smooth voice, mischievous demeanor, and commanding presence when facing apparitions give him a cool “bad boy” vibe that neither we nor Nene can resist. Hanako seems ignorant of Nene’s feelings (which she herself also tries to deny), but after he pretends to confess to her to lure out a matchmaker ghost and she breaks down crying in embarrassment for daring to get her hopes up, he sincerely apologizes and holds her until she calms down. Nene is such a precious, utterly relatable cinnamon roll and we only want the best for her. Hanako/Nene is the best ship of 2020 so far—change our minds.

A Richly Detailed World with Layers of Mystery

Nene’s high school is absolutely crawling with ghosts and spirits, most of which get their power from rumors spread by the students and change their behavior to suit whatever is being said about them. Each apparition has its own backstory and personality that relates to the school or surrounding area, which Nene and Hanako must keep in mind to placate them. There are also human exorcists crawling around the campus whose goal is to exterminate all supernatural phenomena no matter what, and they seem to know more about Hanako-kun than they let on. The ghosts’ backstories combined with the present mysteries and the overall strange nature of the school make for a richly detailed world that we love exploring week to week.

In What Order Should You Watch Universal Century Gundam? - Part 2

As we introduced in part 1, we’re recommending how you should watch the Universal Century editions of Gundam in chronological order within the timeline, not the release order. In that article, we presented the titles that take place during the One Year War, most notably the Gundam movie trilogy, 08th MS Team, and 0080. One exception was Origin, which serves as a prequel. For part 2, we wish to share with you some installments that take place after the One Year War.

    SPOILERS AHEAD

    [ad_top2 class="mt40"]

    1. Kidou Senshi Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory (Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory)

    [en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="13" item2="Aired" content2="May 23, 1991 – September 24, 1992" post_id=""][/en]

As the title suggests, Stardust Memory takes place 3 years after the One Year War. While the world seems to be at peace, remnants of the former Principality of Zeon led by Delaz, a former elite admiral, wishes to make Zeon great again. Helping him on his conquest is Anavel Gato, an ace pilot who sneaks into a Federation base and steals one of their latest Gundams, the GP02A. To make matters worse, the GP02A has nuclear capabilities. Stepping up to the plate to stop the Delaz Fleet is rookie test pilot Ensign Kou Uraki, who becomes pilots the GP01 Gundam. While Ensign Uraki may not be an accomplished pilot or a Newtype, he has the drive to do the right thing! The ultimate purpose of Stardust Memory is to provide the origin story of the Titans, the villains in Zeta Gundam. Upon the ending of Stardust Memory, it gives some fan service cameos to some key players in the Titans who are heavily featured in Zeta Gundam, most notably Bask Om. Another notable cameo is Harman Karn, another antagonist in Zeta and ZZ. What makes this series appealing is its very detailed mechanical visuals, which were designed by Shoji Kawamori, the creator of Macross. Also, we just wanted to mention that you’ll likely get a kick of its energetic soundtrack.

    2. Kidou Senshi Zeta Gundam (Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam)

    [en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="50" item2="Aired" content2="March 2, 1985 – February 22, 1986" post_id=""][/en]

Zeta is the first officially released sequel to the original Gundam. Taking place in UC0087, the world is at peace, but under the iron grip of the Titans, an elite Federation unit that is used to squash any resistance. Due to their draconian methods of enforcement, people live in fear. No longer wanting to tolerate their harsh rule, a band of rebels forms AEUG, or the Anti-Earth Union Government. One of its key soldiers is Quattro Bajeerna, who is actually Char Aznable. Their latest recruit is Kamille Bidan, a troubled teenager who is also an engineering genius. Sick of his life and how the Titans treat everyone, he leaves everything behind to become a rebel! Upon its initial broadcast, Zeta was very controversial. The networks, studio, and even Tomino’s own family complained to him that they found the series too dark (keep in mind that he made Ideon and Dunbine before making Zeta)! As time went on, many fans came to praise the series for being dark. The series is full of death but what makes Zeta great is how it portrays the true brutalities of war. When people die meaninglessly, it can show that war in itself is meaningless. While they’re no longer featured in any present DVDs or Blu-rays, the original opening and ending theme songs happened to be Japanese covers of Neil Sedaka’s Better Days are Coming and Bad and Beautiful. While Zeta got a compilation trilogy in 2005, it was given a new ending to reflect the present Tomino who is happier in comparison to the Tomino who was going through a severe depression throughout the 80s.

    3. Kidou Senshi Gundam ZZ (Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ)

    [en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="47" item2="Aired" content2="March 1, 1986 – January 31, 1987" post_id=""][/en]

ZZ (read as Double Zeta) takes place immediately after the ending of Zeta. Camille is in a catatonic state from his fight with Scirocco, and Char has gone MIA. While the threat of the Titans has been eliminated, there is still Neo Zeon, led by Harman Karn, to deal with. In order to fight this new threat, Captain Bright assumes command of AEUG and recruits Judau Ashta, a junker to be his newest pilot and his friends to be his crew. ZZ is also controversial but for strange and yet legitimate reasons. While Zeta is notable for being dark, the first half of ZZ is cartoonishly comedic but goes dark towards the final half. We have to keep in mind that Tomino received criticism for Zeta being too dark so we can’t blame him for taking this approach. However, ZZ does some things differently beyond its tone. While Judau is a natural with machines, he’s not as educated as Amuro or as Camille and is mostly motivated by wanting to make money to put his sister through school. While he may lack book smarts, he has street smarts and his inclusion gives the franchise something fresh to work with.

    Final Thoughts

    [sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="KICA-2045" text="" url="" ]

For video games, we recommend that you play the Zeta Gundam game for PlayStation as its ending shows what happens to Char after the final battle in the series and why he started Neo Zeon in Char’s Counterattack. If you’re looking for manga, then you have to read Char’s Deleted Affair. The manga covers Char’s activities between the original Gundam trilogy and Zeta Gundam. There you can learn about his relationship with Harman, and how he ended up in AEUG. So stay tuned for the third and final part of our In What Order You Should Watch Universal Century Gundam series of articles!

Unagi Eels in Japanese Culture & Anime

    [sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="UPCH-5318" text="" url="" ]

With their long, snake-like bodies, eels are some of the most unique fish out there with a wide variety of species and an interesting life cycle. They’ve also been an important part of Japanese culture since at least the Edo period and have even appeared in Japanese anime and video games. Today, we’re talking eels!

    Eels as Animals

As we said in the intro, eels are a diverse order of fish with around 800 species, scientifically speaking, and many more if you include other similar animals that are commonly called eels like the famous electric eel. Besides their elongated bodies, eels also stand out with their complicated, multi-step life cycle starting from egg to flat, transparent larvae and then to glass eel, elver, and finally adulthood. Many eel species also migrate thousands of kilometers from the ocean to freshwater in the glass eel and elver stages and then back to the ocean as adults to spawn, similar to salmon. Our eel of focus for this article is the Japanese eel, a fairly large brown-to-black-bodied eel with a light underbelly that migrates from the West Mariana Ridge inland freshwater to many countries in East Asia including Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, and Vietnam. Unfortunately, like many other freshwater eels, Japanese eels are endangered due to overfishing and environmental changes.

    Eels in Japanese Culture

First and foremost, Japanese eels, or unagi, have been an important food source in Japan for centuries where it is found in a variety of kabayaki dishes like unadon (grilled eel rice bowl) which itself has many variant dishes like Nagoya-style hitsumabushi. Unagi is also used in a popular sushi dish called unakyu (unagi + cucumber) but is always cooked since raw eel isn’t safe to eat. In Japanese mythology, the source of earthquakes is sometimes said to be the Jinshin-Uwo, a giant eel (or catfish) that lives beneath Japan and shakes the island when it thrashes its body. In modern times, unagi has become a luxury cuisine and specialty unagi restaurants are common throughout Japan. One popular occasion for eating unagi is Doyo no Ushi no Hi (Midsummer Day of the Ox), which is traditionally considered the hottest day of the year (and often is). Unagi is rich in protein and many vitamins so it is eaten as a health boost to get through the oppressively hot and humid Japanese summers. Regrettably, almost all unagi eaten today is imported from unsustainable fish farms that raise young, wild-caught eels that put further stress on the wild eel population. Eels imported from mainland China have also been found to contain the antibacterial chemical malachite green, which is banned in Japan and labeled a carcinogen, among other issues.

    Anime & Eels

While certainly not superstars of the anime world, eels have appeared in a good amount of series including in several dishes in Shokugeki no Soma (Food Wars!) like Satoshi Isshiki’s Hitsumabushi “Polar Star Dorm Flavor”. Fans of Samurai Champloo will likely remember Jin’s haphazard stint of running an eel stand in Episode 11 where he gets some much-needed cooking help from the woman he met on the bridge (and later rescues from forced prostitution) who tells him that “eels are like women, if you hold them down forcibly they’ll just get away.” Eels seem to be a fairly popular choice for sexual gags as well like Maya being attacked by eels in the first Sabagebu! Special Mission OVA in a very, umm, tentacle-y manner, the gloriously random "Kind-of Pervy Song About Eels" from Fushigi na Somera-chan (Magical Somera-chan) Episode 4, and, of course, the frequent use of splendid garden eels throughout Shimoneta for comical censorship and visual innuendo!

Shimoneta OP "B Chiku Sentai SOX"

Some other anime eels include Dino, Petra Fina’s experimental eel henchmen in Jikuu Tantei Genshi-kun (Flint the Time Detective) and the bizarre, half-eel half-dog creature Unagi-Inu from Fujio Akatsuka's classic Tensai Bakabon (Genius Bakabon) manga and its many anime adaptations.

    Final Thoughts

Altogether, eels probably deserve a lot more respect than we give them as unique, world-traveling creatures that have inspired legends, delicious cuisine, and even anime sex jokes! In all seriousness, we do hope that the many species of eel currently endangered will be given more protection to ensure their continued survival. Let us know your thoughts on eels in the comments section below and be sure to stick around Honey’s for more fantastic fish coverage (maybe) and definitely more anime! Until next time, watch out for that terrifying eel in Jolly Roger Bay! See ya~

    • As a huge Street Fighter fan since SFII Turbo back in the early 90's, I've always had a strong fondness for Chun-Li, as her strong willpower and ability to overcome adversity was something to admire. Now at 52, she still continues to top the charts as one of the gaming worlds most popular female characters, doing so with style and finesse. You'll likely see a plethora of Chun-Li cosplay at events because well, that's just how damn sexy Chun-Li is!
    • In Street Fighter V, Chun-Li has gone through a multitude of changes which have ultimately led her to falling down on the tier lists, however no one should sleep on this femme fatalle because in the right hands, she's a force to be reckoned with! We can only pray that for Street Fighter VI (Tentative title) that we'll continue to see Chun-Li kick ass and take names as she rightfully should. Until then, HAPPY BIRTHDAY Chun-Li!

    • It seems like March 4th is a pretty popular day for anime birthdays, as now it's time for us to celebrate yet another adorable main lead, Hanamaru Kunikida from Love Live! Sunshine!! Hanamaru-chan is one of the nine main leads in the extremely popular Love Live! Sunshine!! series, and is a member of AZALEA, a sub-unit under Aquors.
    • Her bright and energetic personality illuminates any room she walks in, and creates a wonderful atmosphere for her friends at Uranohoshi Girls' High School.
    • [sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B01JOY1UPQ" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
    • Hanamaru-chan's image color is yellow, loves to read a lot, and is the best friend of Ruby-chan (my favorite of course). The two can be seen hanging out quite often as well as Yoshiko, who is another friend of Hanamaru-chan's.
    • Maru-chan for short, is known for being quite passionate about what she does, working dilligently to ensure the best at whatever she puts her mind to. Since much of her life has been around the more traditional Japanese styles of temples, she's fascinated by new technology since she seldom spends time with gadgets and often immerses herself in a catalog of books. Now that you've gotten to know Maru-chan a little bit, be sure to show her some birthday love!

Like its neighboring city, Kyoto, the city of Uji has deep connections to Japanese culture and history that have made it a major tourist destination in modern times. Uji not only has two UNESCO World Heritage sites but is also renowned across Japan for producing top quality green tea and is the setting of both the final part of Murasaki Shikibu’s Heian-period masterpiece The Tale of Genji and Ayano Takeda’s light novel series Hibike! Euphonium (Sound! Euphonium), the latter of which has been adapted into multiple anime series by Kyoto Animation, itself also located in Uji! Uji is a fascinating city that has a lot to offer for tourists and anime fans alike and, given its proximity to Kyoto, an easy recommendation for most people planning a trip to Japan! Read on to find out more about the major attractions, local cuisine, anime connections, and more!

    The Experience

    [sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="NEOCJS-71" text="" url="" ]

    Shrines

Starting with the UNESCO sites, Uji is home to many fascinating temples and shrines but the two most prominent are Byodo-in Temple and Ujigami Shrine. Byodo-in was originally built in 998 as the villa of Minamoto no Shigenobu, a powerful member of the Heian court, and was later expanded and converted into a Buddhist Temple by Fujiwara no Yorimichi and others. The centerpiece of Byodo-in is the Phoenix Hall which is named after the two bronze phoenix statues on the roof. Its interior contains a famous statue of the Amida Buddha with 52 Bosatsu (Bodhisativas) and many colorful paintings on the walls and ceiling. The Phoenix Hall is considered by many to be the most beautiful building in Japan and is featured on the back of the 10-yen coin (bring one for a fun photo op!). Ujigami Shrine was built as a guardian shrine to Byodo-in shortly after its completion and is dedicated to a prince of Emperor Ojin, Uji no Wakiiratsuko, who committed suicide to solve a dispute over succession to the imperial throne. It is famous for its natural spring and is considered to be the oldest extant Shinto shrine in Japan and is exemplary of Nagare-zukuri style architecture. As it is adjacent to Byodo-in and Uji Shrine, all three are recommended spots!

    Matcha

Another facet of Uji that’s impossible to miss is its green tea or Uji matcha which is available throughout the city in a seemingly endless variety of forms from matcha soft serve ice cream to matcha ramen, dango, gyoza, beer, and more! Tea too, of course, and it’s absolutely delicious with a rich umami flavor and many places offer traditional Japanese tea ceremony service! The origin of Uji matcha started at the beginning of the 13th century by influential Buddhist monk Myoue (Kyosogiga’s Myoue’s namesake by the way) who started a tea farm in Uji using seeds he was given by the Zen monk Eisai.

    Anime Links

Tying it all together is storytelling from The Tale of Genji and Hibike! Euphonium. As we mentioned before, the finale of The Tale of Genji takes place in Uji and follows Genji’s secret descendants Niou and Kaoru and their rivalry over the daughters of an imperial prince. Many connections to the story such as the statue of Murasaki Shikibu near Uji Bridge can be found in Uji as can The Tale of Genji Museum which offers a variety of exhibits on the life and culture of the Heian Period Imperial Court. As the setting for Hibike! Euphonium, Uji is also the perfect place for otaku pilgrimage! Kyoto Animation did a brilliant job capturing so many places throughout the city that you can visit in real life from the riverside bench Kumiko and others frequent to the chatsubo (tea jar)-shaped postbox by the station and many more! Trace Kumiko’s dramatic run across Uji Bridge! Eat hotdog pastries at Nakaji Bakery near Ōbaku Station! There’s actually so much that the local tourism office offers a special Hibike! Euphonium area map with tons of locations to visit from the series with images from the anime for perfect shot comparisons.

    Additional info

We definitely recommend checking out the local tourism offices located near the train stations for more information, cool and/or tasty souvenirs, and those special Hibike! Euphonium maps! There’s also a bunch of large character cutouts placed around town for more fun photo opportunities!

    Final Thoughts

With rich history (and tea) and cultural connections old and new, Uji is an excellent and easy side trip from Kyoto that’s well worth your time, and a necessity if you love Hibike Euphonium! Want to go? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below! Until next time, be sure to stick around Honey’s for more of all things awesome, Anime Hot Spots and otherwise! Mata ne~

Tenki no Ko (Weathering With You) and the Idea of Sunshine Women

Makoto Shinkai’s 2019 supernatural drama Tenki no Ko made a huge splash with its moving storyline, beautiful art, and great music. Reminiscent of anime like Your Name and Patema Inverted, Weathering with You takes us into a world much like ours but a little more magical. This supernatural setting allows the creators to convey ideas and metaphors in a way so artistically poetic that it’s easy to dismiss them as simple fantasy. But, though based on Japanese folklore, there is a root in reality to the events in Weathering with You. Join us for a brief discussion on the not-so-hidden message in Shinkai’s Tenki no Ko.

    Background

As many anime fans know, a rain woman (or ameonna in Japanese) is a woman who can make it rain or causes it to rain, thus “ruining” important events—all based on a yokai by the same name. And as it is briefly explained in Weathering with You, in their world, these women actually are born with that trait and if too many of them and/or snow women (yukionna) appear at any given time, the weather is disturbed and a so-called sunshine woman will appear to bring balance again to the world.

    Sunshine People

In Weathering with You, Hina is overjoyed every time she is able to make someone’s day better by praying the rain away. Not only is she making money and has a new friend but she’s happy to make others happy. But eventually, she runs herself ragged and starts literally fading away from using her power too much. Here’s where we can start seeing the parallels between Hina the magical sunshine woman and reality. Much like Hina, there are many women—more so in some cultures than others—who, at a relatively early age, decide that all they want is to make others happy and fix everyone’s problems. Naturally nurturing, women are more likely to fall into this frame of mind as they are usually the caregivers in the home and the ones everyone runs to when they need love, a hug, or a shoulder to cry on. Of course, there are also men who feel this way and all they want in life is for everyone to be happy and help people avoid feeling sadness or pain if they can. While that is a noble way to live, as selfless as it is, it can have negative effects. Just how Hina starts fading away, sunshine people can wear themselves out always worrying about others and overworking themselves for others while ignoring their own health, needs, and wants, sometimes to the point that they end up hospitalized or in abusive relationships in which they get taken advantage of.

    Pray for Yourself

What pulls it all together and brings these circumstances into focus is when Hodaka complains about the rain without even thinking and Hina asks him if he wants the rain to stop, to which he replies “yeah” before falling asleep. Knowing she’s at her limit, her love and her nature drive her to make the ultimate sacrifice and so she prays for the rain to stop so Hodaka will be happy. And then, she’s gone; transported to the world in the clouds until Hodaka risks it all to rescue her. Hodaka realizes what happened and that she sacrificed herself for him so he tells Hina he prefers her to a blue sky, that even if it rains every day, that doesn’t matter if she’s there with him and happy. And as the two free-fall from the clouds, Hodaka tells Hina the words that every sunshine person should live by: “pray for yourself”. And so she does, they both are saved, Hodaka has to finish school on his island and comes back three years later to a self-confident, still caring but full of self-love, Hina. Sunshine people choose to be that way for different reasons but in the end, it’s important to remember that caring for oneself doesn’t mean one is selfish. While it is beautiful and rewarding to make others happy, we can’t make others happy if we are not healthy or truly happy ourselves, just as we can’t love somebody until we learn to love ourselves.

    Final Thoughts

    [sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="UPCH-20540" text="" url="" ]

Trying to make everyone happy can be draining and exhausting but, in the end, it is nobody’s duty to make everyone happy. And really, if we are happy ourselves, love others and have compassion for others, we will be the sunshine in people’s lives without having to sacrifice our health, personality or life. We hope you enjoyed our little study on the strong message in Tenki no Ko and the idea of sunshine women/people. Did you watch the movie? What did you think? Did you cry on the “pray for yourself” part? We teared up a bit… Share your thoughts down in the comments below! Nya~!

With another exciting round of seasonal anime well underway, Honey’s is here once again to offer our recommendations for similar shows to watch based on some of our new favorite current series. Today we’re tackling Eizouken ni wa Te wo Dasu na!, a uniquely styled and pleasantly offbeat series that’s admittedly a bit hard to find recommendations for but we did anyway! We’ve based our picks primarily on similarity in theme, subject, and overall style. Without further ado, let’s get our hands ON 6 Anime like Eizouken ni wa Te wo Dasu na!

    [ad_top2 class="mt40"]

Similar Anime to Eizouken ni wa Te wo Dasu na! / Similar Anime to Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!

    1. Shirobako

    [en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="24" item2="Aired" content2="October 2014 – March 2015" post_id=""][/en]
    [es][information_general item1 = "Episodios" content1="___content1___" item2="Emisión" content2="___content2___" post_id=""][/es]

When it comes to “anime about making anime”, Shirobako is probably the most prominent example, and for good reason! Following five friends, Ema Yasuhara, Aoi Miyamori, Midori Imai, Misa Toudou, and Shizuka Sakaki, Shirobako traces their paths from founding an amateur anime-making club in high school together to their current forays and struggles in and around the anime industry. Ema and Aoi get their breaks first after joining the famous studio Musashino Animation as a key animator and production assistant respectively while others like Shizuka, who is an aspiring voice actress, are still waiting for their chance. Shirobako is a fan-favorite of people interested in anime production because it depicts the process relatively realistically, warts and all, and goes into more informative detail than you might expect all while also telling a solid story with likable, and slightly quirky, characters. It’s also obviously a strong recommendation for Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! fans who enjoy its many nods to other series and its discussion of the animation process. We think Shirobako makes an excellent companion to Eizouken as it showcases the professional industry and has a great cast that exhibits real passion for the many aspects of creating anime!

    2. Genshiken

Softspoken and reserved college student Kanji Sasahara happens upon the titular, gratuitously-named school club known as Gendai Shikaku Bunka Kenkyukai (Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture), or Genshiken for short. This group is made up of an oddball set of nerds who, ostensibly, have the goal of uniting the many otaku fascinations like manga, anime, and video games together in the club but have somewhat lost their way in recent years. An episodic series, Genshiken touches on many facets of otaku culture through its quirky characters like cosplay and buff, middle-aged-man yaoi maniac Ohno Kanako, and hardcore Gundam fan Harunobu Madarame who is frequently broke because he buys doujinshi without looking at the prices. Kanj himself grows to embrace his otaku side over time and loves hentai PC games, among other things. Similarly to Shirobako, Genshiken has a bit of an almost educational aspect while still being funny and entertaining, this time focusing on the otaku lifestyle in general rather than animation in particular. Perhaps the best way to put why this show is a good recommendation for Eizouken watchers is that they both highlight the enthusiasm their characters have towards their hobbies, are otaku-oriented with a plethora of references to other anime, and do all of this within a school club setting. Genshiken also has a pretty unique look, partially just because it's an older series, with distinctly non-standard character designs like Eizouken that we think you’ll appreciate!

    3. Shoujo-tachi wa Kouya wo Mezasu (Girls Beyond the Wasteland)

    [sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B01AU785FY" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
    [en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="12" item2="Aired" content2="January 2016 – March 2016" post_id=""][/en]
    [es][information_general item1 = "Episodios" content1="___content1___" item2="Emisión" content2="___content2___" post_id=""][/es]

Despite being a naturally-talented writer, high school student Buntarou Hojo has had great difficulty in writing the story of his own life, that is to say, he feels directionless; particularly after his one outlet, writing scripts for his school’s drama department, ends with school. However, one of his classmates, Sayuki Kuroda, sees his potential and decides to enlist him into her bishoujo game development group! The two then gather more team members, like artist Yuuki and voice actress Yuuka, and proceed to do all sorts of wacky things like acting out mock eroge scenes for research so they can effectively complete their game together. Girls Beyond the Wasteland is a bit of a cautious recommendation as it wasn’t a terribly well-received anime in general and very much feels like its visual novel source material in style, character design, and “fan servitude”, which might put off some Eizouken viewers. That all being said, the school club making a media product aspect is definitely a clear connection that can be appealing, especially to visual novel fans as the series is about them and sometimes comments on the industry.

    4. Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun (Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun)

After confessing to her crush, the enigmatic and largely oblivious Umetarou Nozaki, excitable highschooler Chiyo Sakura is surprised to receive his signature rather than an answer. After several more misunderstandings, she soon finds out that the serious-looking Nozaki-kun is actually a popular shoujo manga creator and gets roped into helping out with his production as an inker assistant. There, she also meets popular boy Mikoto "Mikorin" Mikoshiba, who is also one of Nozaki’s assistants and frequently embarrasses himself while trying to flirt but remains popular. Thus begin Chiyo’s adventures in trying to impress her clueless weirdo crush while helping to create shoujo manga! Like Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!, Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun is a largely character-driven anime with a deep focus on independent media production, this time with shoujo manga, and offers some insights into how it’s made while still telling a cohesive story by itself. GSNK is altogether a solid series that will appeal to Eizouken watchers who dig its animation production parts and are interested in seeing something similar with manga. Nozaki-kun’s characters are also a bit offbeat, albeit not really in the same way as Eizouken’s. We’d say the biggest difference, besides the anime vs shoujo manga subject matter, is that Nozaki-kun is a lot more based around cleverly and humorously parodying anime tropes and has a strong genuine romance aspect as well. The OP is also really catchy!

    5. Animegataris (Anime-Gataris)

Do you… like anime? Well, rich girl Arisu Kamiigusa certainly does even though she can hardly find anyone to talk with her about it. That’s why Minoa Asagaya sought her out when she was trying to identify the name of an anime she remembers watching as a kid. Little did Minoa know that this would lead to the founding of the Anime Research Club to gather more members to chase down the name of her long-lost memory. Anime noobie Minoa has a lot to learn herself as she enters a new world of otaku culture! Animegataris is very much an anime about anime that is very self-aware, sometimes breaking the fourth wall completely and frequently making references to and parodies of other series. While done in a different style, this aspect is somewhat reminiscent of Eizouken’s trademark “imaginary” anime scenes. The whole thing feels a bit fast and loose at times but also quite enjoyable in the meta sense of the staff “getting away with” a bunch of silly decisions that somehow work. In any case, we think Animegataris is an anime worth checking out for Eizouken fans!

Another anime about making manga, Bakuman follows Mashiro Moritaka, a middle school student who had given up his childhood dream of being a mangaka until he was approached by ace student classmate Akito Takagi after he saw his drawings in his notebook. With renewed vigor brought on by Mashiro's crush, Miho Azuki, promising to marry him if she becomes the voice actress for the anime adaptation of his manga, the duo begins their work using the pen name Muto Ashirogi with Mashiro doing art and Akito writing. Their first goal, get serialized in Shonen Jump err… Jack! Bakuman is another series that is serious about showing the ins and outs of creation—in this case, manga—and it doesn’t over-glamourize or sanitize it like series like New Game! does with game development, instead going for a more realistic feeling. Like many of the other series mentioned already, this is the main reason for our recommendation on this list. More generally, it’s about ambitious people following their passion to create amazing work just like Asakusa and Mizusaki in Eizouken are doing with anime (and we suppose Kanamori as well, although that’s supposedly more about the financial aspect). Bakuman is also just simply very well done so we think it’s worth a try regardless!
