The community is split after this event because now many are without anime. Another rumor floating around is that companies/studios are clearing out the internet of copyrighted content regarding their intellectual properties as a means to partner up with another company called AnimeLog, to bring FREE anime to YouTube! AnimeLog already has licenses for Toei Animation, Nippon Animation, Kodansha, Tezuka Productions, and Shinei Animation, for now. Many more seem like they are coming but at the moment, this platform is only available in Japan but with intentions to make all the licensed content they acquire free globally.

Now, if this is true, this will basically make Crunchyroll and FUNimation obsolete! When you have a paid service for anime vs free anime on YouTube from the actual companies making it, you’d want to support the company solely on the FREE option and knowing you can fully support the companies that way is the greatest thing ever! This would hopefully mean that the animation companies/studios actually have been listening to our calls and cries for more accessible anime—hopefully—because it would finally mean that anime is globally available for anyone, making YouTube the main source for our otaku needs. Of course, we don’t necessarily know how manga, scanlations, and music will be involved but we imagine the industry is ready to be more forthcoming to the rest of the world. Now there is another factor of negativity and that would be for those directly involved with Crunchyroll and FUNimation. What would the future truly hold for them?, and would the anime community be willing to let go of both companies to support the original studios by switching over to AnimeLog on YouTube?

To encourage your friends to join your journey, you might need to ask permission from their parents, depending on the age and situation, and off we go! Your parents will thank you later if you help their child become fit.

In many anime, parents can be quite boring and or seemingly non-existent. In Death Note, for example, Light Yagami’s dad—Souichirou—is the leader of the investigation team for Kira but he’s very dull and often barely acts like a dad to Light. Light’s mom isn’t much better taking an extremely hands-off approach to her son thus missing all of his strange activities. Needless to say, parents like this in anime are dull and boring but that isn’t the case with the Natsuki parents. Kenichi and Naoko are both quite silly and extremely quirky. Kenichi legit wrestles with his son in his first appearance in Re:Zero and his mom offers Subaru a plate of peas stacked to an unusual size! These parents know the meaning of having fun and are quite happy while doing so. Those are parents we need more often in the anime world!

Being die-hard otaku, we’ve seen numerous anime parents who are far from loving. Shou Tucker—the Sewing-Life Alchemist—from Fullmetal Alchemist is an example of a parent who should have his dad card revoked for various reasons. Another bad parent is Hiromi Shiota from Ansatsu Kyoushitsu—Assassination Classroom in English—who tries to make her son Nagisa into a girl whenever possible. Trust us, there’s a laundry list of bad parents out there in the anime landscape but thankfully, the Natsuki parents aren’t that. As we discover in the 4th episode of the second season—or episode 29 for continuity purposes—Subaru had a lot of issues growing up. We mentioned this in another article in greater detail but Subaru was battling a slew of inner demons as a kid. Instead of attacking their child or being uncaring towards his plight, Kenichi and Naoko continued to shower their child with affection to remind him he was always adored and loved. These are the type of parents some kids need and we can only imagine how bad Subaru would be if his parents acted differently towards him.

Since Subaru’s parents were introduced in the anime, we have heard numerous debates online about their hands-off behavior. In our minds, though, the way Subaru’s mom and dad handled him wasn’t wrong but necessary. Look at Rei’s adopted father in 3-gatsu no Lion. Masachika Kouda is Rei Kiriyama’s step-father and he didn’t adopt our main lead for love or support. Instead, Kouda saw the Shogi skills within Rei and wanted to harness that for his own personal interest. Rei needed parents like Subaru…if he had that love and support maybe he wouldn’t be so disjointed and withdrawn like he is. Intelligence from the Heart Near the end of episode 29, Subaru’s mom steals the show by having a long discussion with her son. As aloof as Naoko came off, she instilled words of wisdom to our hero Subaru. Naoko knew that her son was suffering and while she didn’t come and question him on his pains she continued watching to support him and be there when he needed her. This shows Naoko had just the right mindset on how to handle our main protagonist and we need to give her a medal for this. Naoko reminds us of Nagisa Furukawa’s mom—Sanae—from Clannad who didn’t act her age too often but showed that within her heart laid a smart mom.

Since the series primarily focused around the drama club, our selection was almost limited to the members of this club. As one of the few carnivores within the club, it was a close call between Aoba and Tao the Black Panther. Both Tao and Aoba were kind, compassionate animals, but Tao has a tendency to be afraid. On the other hand, Aoba possesses an ability to think like an adult when the situation calls for it. This was evident when the carnivores decided to go to the black market, and Aoba chose to accept the reality of the world. If we put Tao against Aoba in a deathmatch, we imagine Tao to succumb to fear and refuse to fight. On the other hand, Aoba might realize their situation faster and go for the kill. Of course, nothing of this sort actually happened, so this remains a theory.

Unlike Tao and Aoba, Bill is presented as a strong and aggressive carnivore. He is an animal that didn’t bother to pretend about hiding his carnal desires. In fact, he was the one who egged the other carnivores in the drama club to go to the black market and check the world of adults. Given his very forward personality and strength for being a Bengal tiger, Bill was one of the prime suspects of being Tem’s murderer. This suspicion even escalated to a fight. When Legoshi found out that Bill was secretly ingesting blood during his investigations, he made sure to confront him about it. Of course, Bill just didn’t let Legoshi berate him. In the guise of performance, they literally brawled on stage. Although Legoshi managed to sneak a couple of punches in, Bill easily handed his ass back to him. More so, he ended up having a few nasty claw scars on his back.

Legoshi is the series protagonist. As a gray wolf, his species also gifted Legoshi with great strength. However, his kind and pleasant personality led to him hiding his innate strengths most, if not at all, times. Of course, the series would be bland if he remained that way. So even though he got his ass handed back to him a couple of times, he always had the power of the plot alongside him, which is the primary reason as to why he is above Bill. One of the plot devices Legoshi acquired was meeting our ever so favorite, Goushin the panda. He may initially be weaker than Bill, but he definitely gradually and consistently grew under Goushin’s tutelage. If given the chance for him to fight Bill again before graduating, we are willing to put our month’s salary on Legoshi.

First and foremost, yes, Riz is a brown bear. Why is he not a grizzly bear, you say? Well, we also don’t know. Anyway, Riz was Tem’s real murderer. We’ll cut the drama about the friendship thingy and get to his physical prowess. Being a brown bear, the amount of muscle within Riz is so big that he is required to take muscle reduction pills. However, these pills couldn’t do anything to his sharp claws and teeth. You may be wondering why we put Riz above Legoshi, the protagonist. Well, our answer to that is simply because Riz is stronger than Legoshi. At least until before they graduate. We’re not simply theorizing about that. When Legoshi found out the truth, he faced Riz in a one-on-one match. During that time, Riz had beaten Legoshi black and blue. If not for Louis’s sacrifice, Legoshi wouldn’t have defeated Riz.

Rokume is the one and only security personnel in Cherryton High. Rokume literally slithers around school protecting it from evil. Although we haven’t seen her fight, her massive size alone gives us the impression of how much damage she can do. Heck, she was double, maybe even more, Legoshi’s size. Plus given that she’s a rattlesnake, which has one of the deadliest venoms, we’re certain she can easily beat everyone on this list.

To anybody who has read the manga, Louis is easily eliminated from even being considered for this list. We mean, he wouldn’t even hold a candle against Aoba in terms of strength. After all, he’s just a meager red deer. However, that line ends as to where strength is concerned. Louis possesses great insight, survivability, connections, and intellect than most characters in this series. He literally survived more death encounters than Legoshi. In fact, he survived going to a lion’s den and even ended up as their leader. Talk about being a bad buck. With Shishigumi at his beck and call plus the fact that he played a crucial role in defeating Riz to finally close the case of Tem’s murder, we believe that it is only correct to include Louis on this list.

Ever since she was young, it was always Fumi's dream to become a successful hairstylist. One day, she met a chubby boy with shaggy hair and glasses who was crying because other kids were bullying him for how he looked. To cheer him up, she styled his hair for free, her very first customer. The boy was happy, and right there, she knew that this is what she wanted to do with her life. Now an adult, she got a job working as an assistant in a beauty salon. Her charismatic and handsome manager, Nanase, often chastises her for making mistakes. Fumi doesn't mind, though, as she's happy to be there and to improve her skills. After accidentally spraying a customer's face with water while rinsing their hair, Nanase insists that she stay behind after work for extra practice with him. Unfortunately, she gets too hot and flustered being so close to her attractive boss and sprays him with water too. He casually removes his shirt and orders her to continue washing his hair. Enjoying the reaction he's getting from her, he decides to tease her even further.

This current season of Oregairu is the third of the series and picked up right from where the second season left off without recapping any of the events that got us to this point. Basically, if you’re here watching the third season, you know why you’re here and there isn’t much need for you to be reminded. Above that, Oregairu’s third season hits the ground running, giving us some emotional character moments, realisations, conversations, and drama that quickly immerse us in the present situation, regardless of how long its been since you’ve seen these characters. The third season also creates the desire to go and watch the first two seasons again anyway.

With a series like Oregairu, it’s clear that a long time passing between seasons isn’t as big a break in the narrative as it would be with another, so throwing viewers right back into the mix without a recap works in the series’ favour. At times taking the time to recap or, goodness forbid, making a recap episode serves to bog down the momentum that the series has developed in the mind of the viewer and can be more of a nuisance than a saving grace. There are definitely series that bear narrative styles that would require a recap, especially after being gone for about two years; however, this is also an aspect of an anime series that depends on how the previous season has ended. Endings that feel inconclusive or openly posit that the story will go on perhaps require the type of “run-on” continuation that we’ve seen in Oregairu’s third season. Other continuations find themselves catching the tails of stories that were thought to be told to their conclusion; so sometimes the new season requires an intimate understanding of the events that led to this point. Titles like re:Zero for example, had a similar leave of absence from our screens after the first season dropped in 2016; however, 2019 saw the release of the Director’s Cut of the first season in anticipation of the currently-airing second season. A lot happened in that first season and given its rather unfulfilling ending, a second season seemed pre-ordained but the Director’s Cut built up the hype that fans of the series may have lost a little after waiting for four years.
