Punch Line follows the story of Yuuta Iridatsu, a high school boy particularly sensitive to girl’s panties. Through a variety of incidences, a mysterious figure steals Yuuta’s body, reducing him to a sprit. While trying to regain his body, Yuuta soon finds himself shouldering the responsibility of saving the world. Throw in superheroes, robots, and plenty of action, and we have a show that is really rolling the punches. Though Punch Line features more fanservice than Concrete Revolutio, it shares the latter’s overly saturated color palettes and wild narratives. Also, much like Concrete Revolutio, Punch Line can take some warming up time before one really becomes engrossed in the story. However, it certainly does reward those with patience. For the fans that love colorful aesthetics, an enigmatic plot, and a slow boiling show, Punch Line might be up their alley.

For those who love all things Kyoto Animation, Kyoukai no Kanata will not disappoint. The anime depicts the story of Akihito Kanbara, a half human and half youmu, or supernatural creature, as he confronts and eventually helps his hapless classmate Mirai Kuriyama. On a slightly different track than Punch Line, Kyoukai no Kanata resembles Concrete Revolutio due to its focus on the relationship between yokai and humans and the existence of the Spirit World Warriors. Like in Concrete Revolutio, Kyoukai no Kanata is set in a world where both humans and yokai exist. However, yokai are not always benevolent. Much like the Superhuman Bureau, the Spirit World Warriors regulate the yokai and try to maintain the everyday lives of normal humans.

The phrase, “you have to see it to believe it,” might be the most apt when describing this show. For the sake of simplicity, Samurai Flamenco is the story of the self-made superhero, Hazama Masayoshi and the local police officer, Goto, as they try to save the world. Samurai Flamenco seems to depict the story of a hero’s everyday life at least for the first five episodes. While this might not be the first anime that comes to mind when thinking about Concrete Revolutio, Samurai Flamenco arguable resembles it due to its focus on monsters, heroes, and the concern for the meaning of justice. Much like how Jiro Hitoyoshi fights with the Superhuman Bureau to keep monsters in check, Samurai Flamenco’s Hazama Masayoshi fights for justice in his battles against monsters that threaten humanity.

In Kekkai Sensen, the young Leonardo Watch, blessed (or perhaps cursed) with the “All Seeing Eyes of God,” joins Libra, a quasi-order enforcement organization for the “Beyond.” As a part of Libra, Leonardo soon finds himself in pinches well beyond his imagination. Though stylistically different from Concrete Revolutio, Kekkai Sensen, with its stunning animation and cinematography, is just right for those who want a visual treat. Additionally, those who like the Superhuman Bureau will find a similar organization at the heart of Kekkai Sensen: Libra. Just as the Superhuman Bureau regulates superhuman beings, Libra protects humans from the chaos caused by monsters and magic.

One Punch Man is the story of Saitama, a superhero who can take out anything with only one punch. But, even with his overpowered status, Saitama still has his struggles, such as finishing his fights fast enough to make it in time for limited-time-sales at the market. One Punch Man is another superhero anime like the previously mentioned Samurai Flamenco that is not the typical hero show. Instead of heroes working independently, we have a larger organization monitoring the activities of these super humans much like the Superhuman Bureau does in Concrete Revolutio. Throw in the monsters that appear throughout the show, and we have an anime with a faint flavor of Concrete Revolutio for the fans that are craving more.

Psycho-Pass is an anime set in a dystopian future in which it’s possible for every citizen of Japan to have their state of mind measured and quantified by the Sybil System to monitor mental states and probability of committing a crime. Psycho-passes indicate whether or not a person has a high likelihood of committing a crime and the Public Safety Bureau’s Criminal Investigation Division enforces order with the help of people who are on the brink of being categorized as criminals themselves. On the surface, Psycho-Pass and Concrete Revolutio may not seem that they have much in common. However, when you consider the dystopian and political overtones of both shows, they begin to seem more like one another. Just like how the Superhuman Bureau is a government agency with questionable politics, in Psycho-Pass we have the Public Safety Bureau’s Criminal Investigation Division, an organization that operates under the morally murky justice system. Rather than superhumans and monsters, Psycho-Pass confronts the monsters within all of us.

Karin is a very unusual girl. She is a young vampire. But, she is also unusual by vampire standards because she has a rare condition. Vampires usually suck the blood out of their victims. But, Karin’s body produces an excessive amount of blood. It’s more than her body can handle. So, once a month she has to give out her blood to others. She has had this condition her whole life and has learned to live with it relatively well. That is until Kenta joins her class. The relationship between these two is odd at first. Kenta’s unusually depressed mood causes Karin’s body to overproduce blood. She can’t deal with this comfortably, so she takes it upon herself to cheer him up and become his friend. He becomes the only person who knows Karin’s secret and true nature. Because of this a bond forms between them and romantic feelings start to develop.

Hazuki is vampire girl and Kouhei is a young man who works as a photographer. He specializes in photographing the paranormal. Hazuki is currently sealed up in a castle, in Germany, due to a special object. She notices Kouhei’s fascination with the supernatural and she tries to bite him and turn him into her slave so that she can escape. Unfortunately, due to Kouhei’s mysterious background, this didn’t work out quite as planned. But, Kouhei still agrees to help her escape her confinements. Once they leave together their adventurous story begins. Due to Kouhei being oblivious to paranormal spirits and his innate protection against vampires, Hazuki is drawn to him. Also, she can’t control him (like she can other people she’s bitten) so they share a heated relationship in that regard. Their time spent together in Kouhei’s home in Japan nurtures a bond between the two. Together they fend off attempts from Hazuki’s father to retrieve her and return her to her imprisonment in the castle. They grow closer as a result and develop a mature romantic relationship.

There is a “special district” off the coast of Japan that has been made into a haven for vampires. The ruler of all vampires, Mina Tepes, is planning to make an announcement to the world about the existence of her kind. However, this goes against over a millennia of vampire politics and culture. Many of them do not want this to happen. Besides rival factions there are terrorists and other organizations that do not want this announcement made. The person most responsible for protecting her is Akira Kuburagi. Her well-being is vital if they are going to make this transition into a new world where vampires and humans live together. Akira met Mina at a very early age and since that time has made a promise to always protect her. Coincidentally, it was later revealed to him that he would be appointed as her bodyguard. His protection goes beyond his job, he deeply cares for her as a person. Luckily, he was born from a clan of werewolves. So, he has great regenerative capabilities. He needs them since he is always putting himself in harm’s way for her. Especially since her often sides with the vampires and is shunned by humans because of this.

The story starts in 12th century Japan. We are introduced to a legendary swordsman named Kurou Minamoto. He is on the run from assassins. They were sent by his brother who had recently become the ruler of Heike. While on the run, Kurou meets a beautiful woman named Kuromitsu. The two quickly fall in love. But, like most “love at first sight” stories, there is a huge problem. Kuromitsu is actually an immortal vampire. Their love story crosses centuries and betrayal. After their initial time together, Kurou’s transformation into an immortal being is interrupted and he wakes up hundreds of years in the future. He then is forced to fight the Red Army, who have oppressed the citizens of Japan. All the while he is searching for answers as to Kuromitsu’s whereabouts. Though his true love left him for dead, he hasn’t given up on their relationship. He continues to fight to reunite with her.

Tsukune Aono was miraculously accepted by the Yokai Private Academy. Unfortunately for him, this is an institute attended exclusively by monsters. While he contemplates running away from this obvious mistake in acceptance, he happens to meet Moka. She is one of the most popular girls at school and one of the most beautiful as well. With her in attendance, he feels that maybe life at Yokai Private Academy may not be so bad. However, he doesn’t know that Moka has a secret contained in the rosary she always wears around her neck. A rosary that he is somehow connected to. She is the first person Tsukune meets at Yokai Private Academy. Even though she receives a lot of attention from male students she only gives Tsukune the time of day. She appreciates being able to have a friend who is a normal human. They quickly fall for one another. They grow even closer once they realize Tsukune is the only one capable of removing Moka’s rosary and unleashing her true form. Later on, he creates friendships with other girls at the school. They all become interested in him romantically, but he gracefully declines their offers while he remains in love with only Moka.

Fortune Arterial’s main character is Kouhei Hasekura. He has just transferred to a prestigious Western-style six year academy. He’s optimistic about this change in schools and location (the school being located offshore from mainland Japan). However, immediately things become troubling when he notices that one of the other students in his grade is a vampire. This vampire’s name is Erika Sendo and she is the student council vice-president. At first, their interactions are awkward because she always backs away and becomes uncomfortable in his presence. But, this is simply because she is attracted to him and especially the scent of his blood. Though she always fights her urges to sink her teeth into his neck, it takes all of her willpower to do so. On one particular night, Kouhei agrees to let her bite him because she looked to be physically suffering from her inner turmoil. It’s at this point that she starts allows herself to feel comfortable around him and she falls in love. This was a big moment for Kouhei as well. He had stopped allowing himself to grow close to others because he was always moving and transferring to other schools. But, at that particular moment he let down his walls and accepted Erika into his heart as well.

Saya Otonashi is a member of her school’s track and field club. She has a pretty normal life, except for one thing… she has no memories of her life beyond this past year. Suddenly, she finds herself having to fight monsters known as Chiropterans. It appears that she is the only one capable of defeating these abominations. Things finally start to make sense once it’s revealed that she is in fact the Chiropteran Queen! Haji is one of Saya’s oldest friends. He first met her when he was twelve years old. At first they had an antagonistic relationship because Haji had been purchased by Amshel, taken from his family, and forced to live with Saya. But, the two of them grew closer over the years and Haji grew up into a man (Saya doesn’t age). After a dangerous incident, Saya turns Haji into her only chevalier, meaning he imbibed her blood and developed abilities. He has shown an enormous amount of loyalty and patience. This was demonstrated when Saya had lost her memories and Haji was able to make her fall in love with him again as she slowly regained them.

This OVA follows a half-human, half-vampire hybrid known as D. He is on a mission to find Charlotte Elbourne who was abducted by an extremely powerful vampire named Meier Link. She is the daughter of an affluent family and her father has put out a handsome bounty for her return. The Marcus brothers (or Marcus Clan) are vampire hunters who have accepted the same bounty. D has to outsmart the Marcus brothers, defeat Meier, and return Charlotte back to her family in one piece. Charlotte and Meier share a love that is forbidden by society. Eventually, the two run away from Charlotte’s family so that they can be together. She proves to be extremely loyal to Meier, even offering to die rather than be separated from her lover. Meier in return continually fights his bloodlust urges to bite her. His admiration and compassion for her always overcomes his thoughts of biting her. They face many challenges along the way, but they always do whatever it takes to return to one another.

In the distant future, the Vatican is the only line of defense against vampires. One of their most revered warriors is a priest who is also a crusnik, or a vampire who drinks the blood of other vampires. This man’s name is Abel Nightroad. While traveling, he meets Esther Blanchett, a nun who decides to join Abel on his voyage and aims to train at the Vatican. Soon after, they make contact with the Rosenkruez Orden and Abel’s twin brother, Cain. Their objective is to cause a war between the Vatican and the Empire. It’s up to Cain and “AX” (a special operations group) to prevent them from inciting a massive war. Various characters harbor romantic unrequited romantic feelings. First, there is Ion who has feelings for Esther. Fans commonly “ship” these two together in fanfiction. Second, Esther has an awkward crush on Abel early on. But, it seems to fade away as the story progresses and turns into appreciation and friendship. Third, Caterina Sforza, the founder of AX, possesses one-sided feelings for Abel. She shows jealousy towards his relationship with Esther. Next, there is Noelle Bor who confesses her love to Abel. Which he accepts but gracefully declines. The last one I’ll mention is Abel’s undying love for his deceased lover, Lilith Sahl. After her death, he mourned the loss for over nine hundred years. He still thinks about her to the point of not being able to develop romantic feelings for anybody else.

Cross Academy is a very unique school that caters to a special type of student body. The regular students are kept separate from the elites. There is the Day Class (regular) and the Night Class (elite). These elite students are actually vampires. So, the regular humans have to be kept separate to maintain order and a certain amount of safety. One of the students who helps keep order during the transition of classes is Yuuki Cross. As her name states, she is related to the Cross Academy’s chairman. She is adamant about completing her responsibilities in an efficient manner. But, she also enjoys her position because it allows her to interact with her crush, Kaname Kuran. Yuuki and Kaname’s first interaction happened ten years prior to the events of this series. At that time Kaname saved Yuuki from an attack made by another vampire. Since that time, Kaname has always been kind and caring towards. She doesn’t understand his feelings for her, because he is such a well-respected pureblood vampire. He even shows jealousy towards her relationship with fellow school guardian Zero Kiryu. So, even though Kaname and Yuuki harbor feelings for one another, they are not equal because she feels inferior to him. It’s not until the climax of the Rido Kuran Arc that revelations are made and they see each other for who they really are.

Kira is the name of Light Yagami’s alter ego he has as the owner of the Death Note and of course, this means that Kira is the name of the judge and jury of life and death. One must have a cool disguise name in order not to get caught so Kira is a good fit right? When talking about the actual name, it does sound pretty cool to just say it and it is cool because of the sound and the fact that it sounds like it can be both a hero and anti-hero’s name. And that is what the name stands for in Death Note as well. In the beginning, it was for pure justice and then Kira slipped over to the dark side. Daisuke is a name that feels cool and also looks cool because of the two names it is written of. Usually because it’s a cool name by sound and how it’s written, this name is normally given to the main character of such stories. It is a cool name because of how it is being said and also because it has a sort of mystery to it, with the strong sounds that are being pronounced.

Now Yuki is a name which can be a girls and a boys name. Why it is cool is perhaps because it’s a strange name when you really think about it. As we all know in Bleach, Rukia is a Death God and in a way, she is not of this world and as such she needs a cool name which isn’t as normal and uncool as some names can be. When listening to the name, it’s one that will grab people’s attention and because it’s not as common in our world, it’s a cool name that will be remembered. Not only that, but when thinking of our favorite Death God, the name Rukia will never fade from our memories because of the cool style it possesses.

Ranmaru is a special name and it’s one which is cool because of how it sounds. It also sounds different because of it’s structure. Now why it is cool is because of the sounds the name brings out when being said. It has a tone of something that comes from the mystical Nordic countries of Scandinavia in Europe. Yahiko is a name many Naruto-fans are accustomed to. The name is special because of the way it sounds and because of it’s originality. Yuuta, Takumi, and Shinobu are poor college students all living in the same small, apartment. They may not have a lot of money, but they live together happily finding small pleasures in life. Then they meet Hagumi, a gifted little girl. Shinobu is probably not the senpai you first think of. He's unreliable, noisy, and has a habit of disappearing for long periods of time. Shinobu is basically a senpai by default since his habit of disappearing gets in the way of his university attendance, but there's no denying how talented he is even amongst other university attendees. Shinobu, also, does his part by watching over his kouhai and tries to help them through their troubles. He may not be the most reliable senpai, but he's a senpai that you can trust.

Ryouma lives in the shadow of his father, a famous tennis pro, despite all of his own achievements. He has joined Seigaku a school with one of the best tennis teams in the nation, where he plans on honing his skills as a tennis player with his new teammates in an effort to surpass his father. Tezuka is the captain of the tennis team as well as a third year in high school making him the senpai of a good number of the members of the Seigaku tennis team. As far as anime senpai characters go, Tezuka is probably what most people think of when they hear "senpai" because Tezuka is serious, stoic, and very intelligent. Chihaya treats everyone equally and strives to nurture their inner karuta player. Chihaya is the type of senpai who doesn't wield the senpai card, instead she wants to be able to work as a team as any good senpai should strive for.

Ouran High School is a prestigious school where most of the students are rich teenagers with a lot of time, money, and influence. The scholarship student Fujioka Haruhi has none of these, but attends the school in hopes of becoming a lawyer. One day, Haruhi stumbles upon the Ouran High School Host Club in a pursuit to find a quiet to place to study, where she then breaks an expensive vase worth 8 million yen in an effort to flee from the host club. Haruhi starts off as the club's dog to pay off the debt, but is then promoted to host once the "king" Tamaki discovers her beauty. By the way, Tamaki thinks she's a boy! Now, Haruhi must hide her identity as a girl to pay off her debt or forever be the host club's dog! Hani is the ultra adorable, rabbit wielding shota of Ouran High School Host Club, but you'd never guess he's a third year student, nor that he's a martial artist. Due to his lineage and skill, he's someone to be respected! Just try to respect him while he rides on Mori's shoulders. Hani is the type of anime senpai that you can talk to and relax with. Just don't take away his cake.

Maou is the devil king, but he is defeated by Hero so he ends up drifting into another world. Our world! However his passion for power has not diminished so Maou is in search of power, but before anything, he has to work at the local fast food joint to pay for his living expenses. There's no denying that Maou is passionate about his job. He hasn't even been employed long before he becomes Chiho's senpai. As a senpai, Maou does a good job at consoling Chiho and helping her to do a better job, but his mind is always on getting better at work. Maou is one of those anime senpai that's serious about what he does and you just can't help but respect him for his dedication to his job.

The Shinigami Technical School is a school for weapons meisters. Students are paired up: one is a human weapon and the other is a weapon meister. This is the story of 3 pairs of students who are trying to create a Death Scythe so they must collect 99 evil human souls and the soul of 1 witch. Many could argue that Spirit is a slacker since he spends his days at a local hostess club and constantly laments over his broken family, but there's no denying that he is an amazing anime senpai. As Stein's senpai, Spirit is quite strong and capable amongst many other weapons. You can tell that Spirit is reliable by the faith Death and Stein have in him, even if his other traits are not as commendable. Spirit may not be the type fo husband someone wants, but he is a dependable Death Scythe with the safety of the Shinigami Technical School in his hands.

Kaname Madoka is just an average eighth grade girl. She laughs, she cries, she loves her family. One day she has a chance encounter which brings magic into her life, but what type of future will this new magic bring? When it comes down to anime senpai, Mami is a cut above the rest. Mami does her part as a proper senpai to Madoka and Sayaka. She teaches them what it means to be a magical girl while relaying her own stories, but Mami doesn't withhold the truth about a magical girl's fate. Mami constantly works hard to keep the world safe, but she even takes the time to watch out for Madoka and Sayaka.

Saitama looks like an ordinary man. There's nothing impressive looking about him, but looks can be deceiving and in reality, he's a superhero in search of a worthy adversary. Unfortunately, no one can stand up since Saitama defeats them with one punch! It's true that Genos is constantly referring to Saitama as "sensei", however when registering to be a hero, Genos is categorized as an S class hero, which puts him above Saitama who ended up as a C class hero. Although Genos is constantly striving (in vain) to learn Saitama's secrets, Genos provides Saitama with more information on how to be a hero so that he can advance in rank. Genos gives Saitama the guidance he needs to be a real hero. Still, Genos is said to be strong even amongst S class heroes, so his abilities should not be doubted.

2.5 years has passed since Naruto left to train with Jiraiya, but he's back in Konohagakure to keep his promise. It won’t be easy. There's more enemies now and things have changed, but this is what Naruto trained for. Kakashi is a shinobi with a lot of life and combat experience, which helps him as a teacher, however he's also a revered senpai. Kakashi is constantly giving advice on what to do in combat, but he's also had a lot of worldly experience to give to those who are troubled. Kakashi seems like a slacker at first, however he is not the type to run from trouble and will put himself in harm’s way to save his students and kouhai. You cannot doubt Kakashi as a great senpai!

Many centuries ago, humans were nearly hunted to extinction by giant human-like beings that feasted on humans for sport. Humans fled behind walls in an effort to survive and worked on creating a thriving community behind the walls while also strengthening their own defenses. Life is calm when a century passes without any more issues until one day, a colossus titan breaks through the wall letting in the other titans. Levi is an anime senpai like no other. He's the cool, quiet type with leadership capabilities that are unmatched in Attack on Titan. Levi's skill with the 4D equipment and intellectual mind are not to be questioned either. Although he's not the type to divulge his plans, Levi's squadron believes in him so they follow without question often times being more successful than not. Levi is a senpai of few words but big success

It is said that love itself involves a certain degree of insanity. In anime, there is not one example that can probably attest to this adage more than one of the most controversial titles in recent years, School Days. After all, the story of Makoto, who is widely considered as the worst male lead in anime history, as well as Kotonoha and Sekai, has gone down in anime infamy. The love triangle in this anime is quite graphic, as one sees the main character consistently take advantage of the two female leads for his own gain. He takes advantage of Kotonoha, who sincerely loves him, and he does the same for Sekai, essentially using her as a sexual object simply because she enables his behavior. The dynamic of the three garners the same amount of revulsion that you would get out of a Saw movie, but just like the film, it draws you in with the promise of a worthy conclusion. And when it finally does, you will see just how big a price one would pay if a love triangle benefits only one person.

It is no secret that the story of Sailor Moon is essentially the story of love between a lady from the moon and a man from the Earth. Transcending life itself, they are very much destined to be together, fighting by each other’s side, and sacrificing one’s life for the other. In fact, they are quite perfect for each other, until another person comes along with feelings for Tuxedo Mask - someone close. His own daughter. Possessed by dark energy, the issues of Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask’s daughter from the future, Chibiusa, come into fruition, turning her into the sultry Black Lady. Though the love triangle only lasted a couple of episodes, it did have a massive effect on the plot of the anime. Throughout their daughter’s stay in present-day Earth, Usagi could not shake off the feeling that her future daughter seems to be taking her partner away from her. As it turns out, she really was, since Chibiusa felt so neglected in the future, she ended up falling in love with the idea of her father in the past. I swear, Black Lady’s passionate kiss with the past incarnation of her father was quite a big shocker for those of us who are used to the childish innocence of the original Sailor Moon series.

This little gem in the slice of life genre actually holds one of the best love triangle stories in recent years. What makes the love story between Hiro, Miyako, and Kei a very engaging tale is the fact that it is so relatable. Everyone of us, I believe, has had an experience with a crush or the like that is very much like the dilemma faced by Hiro in the anime. On one hand is Miyako, whose introduction to Hiro’s life involved an impulsive chase after she inadvertently stole his bike. While the circumstances of their meeting was nowhere near conventional, they do end up spending a somewhat magical time together, during Christmas eve. On the other hand, however, lies Kei, who is basically a constant in Hiro’s life. She genuinely cares for him and even goes to great lengths to make him happy. These two girls signify a very real struggle faced by those who end up choosing between two people - do you choose one that has always been there, or one that might make you happiest?

When a person is faced with a choice between two possible partners, one usually looks at the positives and the negatives in each person. For Hitomi in Tenkuu no Escaflowne, this struggle is real, for her affections for Van and Allen, two men whom she feels attracted to, ultimately leads her to a huge existential crisis. The young prince Van is brash and cocky, yet he is also ultimately kind and caring. On the other hand, there is the gallant knight, Allen, who is dashing and chivalrous, yet seemingly hiding numerous secrets from his past. Hitomi ultimately faces a tough choice, for both men are good men, and both are actually great matches for her, despite their flaws. This is something that anime viewers were able to relate to, for this very dilemma happens quite often in real life. In this case, how can a girl really choose without losing something significant?

Love can be a battle between those who can provide you with a life of safety and security and those who can provide you with a relationship filled with passion, dangers, and intensity. In the case of Kohta in Elfen Lied, love ultimately becomes a matter of choice between a cousin who has loved him ever since he was a child, and a cataclysmic killer whose heart only he can reach. Yuka provides Kohta with the chance of having a most loving, conventional relationship possible. She loves him deeply, and is willing to do anything for him. However, viewers of the anime know that a relationship with Yuka will only give Kohta a happy, albeit average life. Lucy, on the other hand, is one who does not even hesitate when she kills, yet her feelings for Kohta are very real and sincere. As dangerous as she is, Lucy is the one who can give Kohta a life that Yuka can never give him - a life of rabid intensity and passion that will truly make him feel alive.

In a very real sense, love can be a matter of choosing between a person who has touched your heart in the past and a person who has managed to reach your heart in the present. For InuYasha, this is a very prominent dilemma, as he is faced between his love for Kikyou, a woman who shared his love with in the past, and his developing feelings for Kagome, Kikyou’s very own reincarnation, in the present. The tale of InuYasha is first and foremost, an epic of love. Its love story is very much relatable to viewers too, as most of us have faced a somewhat similar dilemma as InuYasha in our past. There are, after all, people who just stay with you, even long after they are gone. These people, like ghosts, forever haunt us, to the point when they make moving forward extremely difficult. This anime shows us a very real concept in love, and does it beautifully.

There are times when we get hurt, yet despite the pain, we never can really throw away the person behind the source of our tears. We may say we hate the person, but in our heart of hearts, we know they are still there. This is something that is very well expounded in Skip Beat!, with protagonist Kyouko being hurt badly by Sho, who, despite the young girl’s efforts, continue to haunt her. Even after finding Ren, who in his own mysterious way, shows her care and affection, Kyouko is still rooted in the pain she mercilessly received from a man she truly trusted. Skip Beat! excelled greatly in character development, and this is seen in the way the three characters in the story’s love triangle are fleshed out. While Sho is a egoistic, immature young man, Ren seems to be the complete opposite, being a man who is always calm and in control. For Kyouko, the choice between the two men seems to be simple, yet it isn’t, since Sho’s effects on her go way beyond the present. For many people, this is very true, and this anime manages to portray such inner struggles really well.

Honey and Clover has become quite a staple when one talks about love triangle anime, and for good reason too. After all, the love story between the gifted Hagu and the two flatmates, Yuta and Morita, is something that is takes straight out of real life. In the anime, Hagu represents the ideal female, one who is essentially a blank slate when it comes to relationships. Her two choices, on the other hand, are very symbolic of the types of persons we end up going for. Morita is the very definition of mystery. The fact that no one even knows what he does and that he disappears for certain periods of time add to his mysterious factor. Add the fact that he shows his affection to Hagu in unconventional ways and you end up with the very definition of a man who seems to have many layers. Takemoto, on the other hand, is the very definition of a man who women consider to be “safe” and risk-free. The fact that he encouraged Hagu to look at him as an older brother ultimately cost him a relationship with a woman he can possibly love for his whole life. At the end of the anime, Hagu finally does fall for one of them, and for those of us who have been in Takemoto’s shoes, we all know how such a conclusion feels like.

There are times when those who we fall in love with turn out to be people who we do not even recognize. Sometimes, such revelations cost us greatly, and we end up paying a high price for our mistake. In Akatsuki no Yona, the princess of Kuoka learns this lesson in the costliest way possible, as the man she loved since she was a child turned out to be the man who will rip away everything that she considers precious. If it wasn’t for the intervention of Hak, a man whom she does not feel much affection for, she would certainly have been killed by the man she has been dreaming of marrying. Yet despite the grave betrayal of Soo Won, Yona still holds on to the last pure memory of him before he turned his sword against her father. As the series progresses, viewers also see that even if Yona and Hak are getting closer, Soo Won is still there somewhere in her heart. For us, this is something that happens frequently, as those who have betrayed us in the past still have a tendency to haunt us in the present. RIght now, we still do not know how Yona’s tale would end, but if the anime and manga are to be considered, it is quite certain that the tale of Yona’s, Soo Won’s, and Hak’s love triangle is set to have an explosive conclusion.

At the top of our list is an anime that practically became the definition of a love triangle anime - the 80’s classic, Super Dimensional Fortress Macross. Indeed, the story of the young pilot, Hikaru, the beautiful, headstrong Misa, and the attractive, talented Minmay has gone down in anime history as one of the industry’s most notable love triangle. In fact, it has practically legendary status, with the franchise’s latest iterations, including the critically-acclaimed Macross Frontier, still taking its cue from the original love triangle in the 80’s classic. What makes this love triangle so engaging is the fact that the characters are so fleshed out, viewers will end up empathizing with both Misa and Minmay. Both girls have very endearing qualities that make them great, if not perfect, for Hikaru, and despite the anime concluding with the pilot’s final choice, one cannot help but feel like he should have gone for the other. Love triangles are all about choices and giving up one to get another. This anime portrays this perfectly. The anime closes with a really great note as well, proving that it is the one perfect example of the genre we now know as the space opera.

At Sakuragaoka Girls High School, the light music club is on its last legs. That is, until recent inductee Yui Hirasawa misunderstands the club poster and expresses interest in joining as one of the required minimum four members, along with classmates Ritsu, Mio, and Tsumugi. There are, however, a few problems: she has absolutely no experience playing music, can’t read sheet music, and doesn’t even own the instrument the other girls want her to play. But the energy and heart of their performance gives her the determination to see it through. K-On! has plenty to offer fans of High School Star Musical. Although it takes place at an all-girls school, the high school environment will feel immediately familiar. The series has a quirky cast of core characters that have a very entertaining dynamic as they learn the ins and outs of musical club life, and there’s plenty of comedy and heart to tie the whole thing together.

Based on a popular visual novel video game series, Uta no Prince-Sama tells the story of idol fan girl and aspiring pop sensation Haruka Nanami. Haruka is a girl with dreams of composing music, especially for the idol she reveres. In hopes of achieving her dreams, she enrolls in Saotome, a prestigious performing arts school. If she is successful at school, she’ll get a head start on rocketing forward in her career, but the extremely competitive, eccentric student body is comprised of aspiring composers, would-be (and actual) idols, famous singers, and more. Much like High School Star Musical, music plays a very important role throughout the course of the show. Saotome Academy is just as cutthroat as Ayanagi, even if the student body is a bit more eccentric. The show’s overarching plot is broken up by plenty of silly character beats (including a transforming, evil prince), and the characters prove themselves incredibly likeable as they navigate the social minefield that is high school while trying to achieve their dreams.

Free! is set in the small town of Iwatobi, and follows the story of the taciturn but determined Haruka Nanase. The story begins with Haruka and his childhood friends crowned winners of an elementary school swimming tournament before going their separate ways. However, they reunite in Iwatobi High School, and when Haruka loses a swim match in the school’s run down pool, the friends create a swim club, determined to get back in shape and make the club a competitive success. Although this show doesn’t adhere to the musical theme of previous entries on the list, it has plenty to offer fans of High School Star Musical. Obviously, they share the high school setting, although Iwatobi is a much different environment. The story has a heavy emphasis on the bonds formed during club activities, and the dedication demanded to make the club a success. The characters are relatable and have unique foibles that help propel the plot forward as they come to terms with the nature of their friendships and the way things have changed since childhood.

Seiso Academy is a school that caters to the musically inclined as well as general students looking to excel in their studies. One such student, Kahoko Hino, is a lover of music who never picked up an instrument. That changes after a fateful run in with Lili, a fairy who gifts Kahoko with a magical violin that allows her to play any songs she truly loves, and she agrees to enter the school’s highly competitive musical tournament, the Concours. La Corda D’Oro offers a somewhat whimsical twist on the musical theme enjoyed by fans of Star-Mu, but the classical music plays an important role in the series. Just like High School Star Musical, it’s a large part of how the characters grow closer. Like other entries on the list, and Star-Mu in particular, the high school setting is an important playground for the characters to interact and explore their feelings for one another, all while trying to juggle the demands of extracurricular activities and rigorous high school academia. As the contest draws nearer, the viewer, like Kahoko, begins to feel a very real fondness for her competition.

Nodame Cantabile centers around two equally passionate aspiring musicians at Momogaoka College with very different personalities. There is Shinichi Chiaki, an overbearing, somewhat arrogant perfectionist who plays several instruments and dreams of becoming a musical conductor but suffers from a crippling fear of flying over the ocean. Then, there is Megumi Noda, an eccentric, somewhat sloppy pianist who enjoys her music the way she enjoys her life; playful, and by ear. An accidental encounter blossoms into a one-sided romance, and as Megumi tries to win the heart of Shinichi, they get to know themselves and their classmates better. Star-Mu fans will find plenty to love in Nodame Cantabile. Like Star-Mu, the show is heavily inspired by and often features music to express its themes. Much like High School Star Musical, the heart of the show is the budding relationship between its main characters. As the plot progresses and they discover more about themselves and each other, they begin to mature and their relationship develops deeper meaning. But that doesn’t mean that the show doesn’t know how to have fun, since there are plenty of hilarious comedic beats, just like in Star-Mu, to keep the story clipping along.

No list of recommendations for anime that are club oriented and set in high school would be complete without mentioning Ouran High School Host Club. The show takes place at the titular Ouran Academy, an incredibly prestigious high school attended by Japan’s wealthiest, most influential budding socialites. Except, of course, diligent student Haruhi Fujioka. Haruhi is a scholarship student who becomes a de-facto (if indentured) member of the school’s infamous Host Club after shattering a priceless vase. Each episode, the Host Club (comprised of boys catering to a spectrum of feminine desires) hosts events with varying themes. This show has plenty to offer fans of Star-Mu. While music doesn’t play quite as prominent a role in the goings on as it does in other entries on the list, each episode is themed, and music plays a big part of that. Ouran Academy hosts a bizarre but earnest cast of characters inside and out of the Host Club, and they are the heart of the show, much like the aspiring inductees in Star-Mu. The school has so much personality it could be a character in and of itself, and no club seems quite as demanding as the Host Club. While the show oozes an eccentric comedic overtone, just like High School Star Musical, it often deals with rather mature themes, such as gender identity and discrimination, socio-economic perception, and friendship. Definitely check it out.

Kyouko is a sweet, teenage girl who dreams of being a princess and believes in fairy tail endings, which is why she followed her childhood friend, Shou, to Tokyo to help him follow his dreams. While in Tokyo, Kyouko has been working hard every day to support their lifestyle while she waits for Shou's career to pick up. One day, she overhears Shou bad mouthing her and calling her a boring wallflower despite all that she did to support him, so Kyouko swears vengeance and enters the entertainment world to accomplish her goals. Yes, the #10 creepy anime girl is Mogami Kyouko, who shines bright with talent and innocence. Why? Once Shou breaks Kyouko's innocent young female heart, we get to see Kyouko's inner demons swarm out with a desire for vengeance. Not only that but Kyouko develops a routine of cursing Shou, muttering to herself openly, and plaguing the public with her inner demons. It's a riot to see how Kyouko gets herself into trouble with her dark wrath and hatred, especially when she's the type who wants to be a princess. Maybe she can be a princess of darkness?

Doma Umaru is perfect in every way from her grades, athletic ability, beauty, and personality, but when she gets home, she's a hamster loving otaku with a love for junk food, video games, anime, TV, and cola! Her older brother Taihei always ends up stuck with all the chores. Umaru's camouflage is perfect, however, so when others see her in her "himouto" mode, they don't even know it's her. Motoba Kirie is a creepy anime girl who is often misunderstood as being a bad person, which often leaves her alone. Why is she creepy? Well, even if Kirie is technically kind at heart, she has been known to stalk Umaru home, worship chibi Umaru, and stare in silence for long periods of time, which could make anyone uncomfortable.

Due to his small size, Yukinari has always been terrorized by girls which resulted in his developing an allergy to girls that causes him to break out in hives if he is near a girl or touched by a girl. One day Yukinari is transported to Seiren, a city that orbits the Earth and is female dominated. Yukinari is terrified of the girls who chase him in Seiren, but there is one special girl, Miharu, whose touch does not give him hives. Kosame is one scary girl to do combat against, but watch out, if you beat her, she's the obsessive type. Throughout Girls Bravo, she’s constantly stalking Kirie, spying on her, and if she gets a chance, Kosame goes for the grab! Whether it's just an obsessive girl crush or full on shoujo ai, Kosame does not do things lightly, but it's her creepy antics that make Girls Bravo a fun anime to catch when you need a few laughs.

Itou Makoto falls in love with Katsura Kotonoha, a girl who rides the same train as he does. His new classmate, Saionji Sekai finds out about his crush and offers to help him. Although Sekai is successful in getting Makoto and Kotonoha together, deep down, she also has feelings for Makoto. When Makoto laments on how to repay Sekai for her kindness, she claims a kiss as her compensation and leaves him dumbfounded in time for his date with Kotonoha. Katsura Kotonoha ranks pretty high on the list of creepy ex-girlfriends which earned her a rightful place as a top 10 creepy anime girl. With her imaginary boyfriend Makoto, obsessive and psychotic behavior, and bloody solutions, Kotonoha is definitely one creepy anime girl that you should not mess with. Well, it's also thanks to her psychoticism that we have the beautiful ending that can only be School Days.

Tomoko's got decades of experience with boys but only in otome games. In reality, she's a teenage shut in who matches the definition of a "mojo" or gloomy girl. Tomoko thought that everything would change for her when she went to high school. She thought she'd make friends, be popular, and get a boyfriend, but once she graduated into high school, Tomoko found that nothing has changed. Now that she's in high school, it's time to take a look at herself in the mirror and fix the problem, but mirrors don't lie and what Tomoko sees isn't what she expected. Kuroki Tomoko is probably what ignorant people think of when they first imagine "female otaku". You'll find yourself constantly switching between sympathy and creeped out when you watch WataMote. Maybe it's her misconception about beauty, erotic dreams in school, or the way she giggles as she is verbally abused by a recording from her favorite seiyuu that makes Tomoko one of the creepiest anime girls, but it's what makes WataMote worthwhile to watch.

Kyouhei, Ranmaru, Takenaga and Yuki are living in a mansion for free, but what does this paradise cost them? They have to turn the landlady's niece into a perfect lady, except unbeknownst to them, Sunako is a gore loving, gloomy girl who lurks in the shadows. While they try to get her to come out of her shell, Sunako is blinded by their brightness and constantly faints with a nosebleed. Is Sunako going to become a lady first or is she going to die from blood loss? Sunako skulks the halls bringing gloom and terror to classmates and her roommates. Sunako is the type to seek refuge in the science laboratory with animals preserved in mysterious fluids and anatomical skeletons. She's the creepy anime girl whose best friends are anatomical figures and skeletons that she keeps hidden away in her dark bedroom! If that doesn't make Sunako creepy enough, Sunako cooks like she's in a slasher film and moves like Sadako. However, with all these traits, Sunako makes Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge a hilarious anime to watch. There are not many shoujo heroines out there that would choose a chainsaw as their weapon of choice.

Yukihara Soma has been working at his family's restaurant since he was little with the dream that he would be able to inherit the restaurant and cook better than his father, but one day, his father decides to close up shop to cook around the world. Soma is told to enroll into Totsuki Culinary Academy, a school with a 10% graduation rate, to hone his skills. Soma isn't expecting much, but when he arrives, he is surprised by what he discovers when he attends Totsuki, a school famous for its showdowns called the Shokugeki. The Shokugeki pits students against each other in a gamble to test their skills. Soma soon discovers he's not the only one with a talent for cooking and perhaps cooking school isn't as boring as he thought it was. There is no way you missed Nao in Shokugeki no Soma. She stalks Erina in the trees and secretly curses Erina's best friend and aide, Hisako. It's not just her stalking ability that makes her such a creepy anime girl, it's how she brings her personality out in her cooking. No one could concoct a foul smelling, black sludge and call it curry but Nao. You've never know if she was nourishing you or poisoning you!

Yoma wander the earth feasting on human entrails and then camouflaging into society by changing into a human form. To defend humans against Yoma, half-yoma half-human warriors known as Claymores for the swords that they wield or "Silver-eyed Witches" for their silver eyes are sent out by an organization to fight the Yoma. While humans need the Claymores to survive, they hate them and shun them from society. Raki, a young boy, loses everything to the Yoma and is saved by a Claymore, Clare. With no one willing to care for him, Raki runs off with Clare to join her on her journey and learn about the existence of Claymores, beings who are so hated by society but keep society alive. What makes Priscilla a creepy anime girl, and actually all awakened beings, is the fact that she can seem so coherent and sweet at one moment, and then murderously slay you the next. Combined with Priscilla's control of youki and skill, Priscilla is not a predator you want stalking you. It's truly her innocent demeanor that should really creep you out the most because it lures you in before turning into a monster that will be your demise, but that's also what makes her one creepy anime girl to love because she makes a worthy antagonist.

Megumi dreams of living it up big in the city in contrast to her quiet village life in Sotoba, where she looks forward to nothing but seeing the boy she has a crush on, Yuuki Natsuno. Things take a turn for the worst when Megumi dies in what is deemed a village epidemic, and Natsuno finds himself haunted by Megumi after her death. Meanwhile, Ozaki Toshio, the local doctor, questions the nature of the disease plaguing the village. Between Toshio and Natsuno, they attempt to save Sotoba from the evil lurking in the shadows. Aside from the fact that she's dead yet wandering the earth, Shimizu Megumi makes a name for herself as a creepy anime girl. She's barely even spoken with Natsuno, but after her death, Megumi becomes obsessive and deluded, believing that only she has the right to turn Natsuno into a vampire. Megumi watches Natsuno from the shadows with a fiery possessiveness and haunts him in his dreams. Make sure that when you visit Sotoba, you aren't crushed my Megumi's "crush".

Amano Yukiteru is a teenage boy who is timid and has a habit of communicating with imaginary friends on his cell phone diary. Somehow, Gasai Yuno falls in love with him and they are thrown into a game of survival involving the future and their cell phone diaries, all led by the God of time, an imaginary friend that Yukiteru thought he made up. In this game, only one can survive and become God. Gasai Yuno makes it as the top on our list of creepy anime girls! While her yandere traits add to her creepiness, it's her obsession, blind devotion, ability to kill without remorse, and twisted sense of justice that makes Yuno one of the creepiest anime girls. It's such a contrast to her cute appearance! Even her own future diary is a reflection of her personality: obsessive stalker, but she makes up for everything that Yukiteru lacks. You can't have Mirai Nikki without Yuno.

Chouchou inherited her father Chouji’s appetite as well as his body type. She is also surprisingly fast and has a large amount of chakra which gives her an edge over other Genin that even Chouji didn’t have when he was her age. Unlike her father, Chouchou doesn’t care about being called out on her weight and is in fact a very self-confident girl. She tries to lose weight for a little while in her teen years (like many girls do) but realizing her genetic predisposition, she seems to let it go. While she can be a little self-centered at times, she is also independent and has decided to follow her own path and do things her own way. She's at spot number 10 because out of all the girls on the list, she's the only one to ever try to lose weight and feel unhappy with herself.

Minori is a sweet country girl who's in love with her childhood friend Kosaku. Unfortunately for her, a recently retired idol he worships, Yuka, just moved to their farmland and enrolled into their school. Despite obviously not having a petite idol-like physique, Minori still stays positive and continues to pursue her love interest. She even makes sure to flaunt her full breasts to Yuka often to remind her she's the winner in that department! Physically, Minori is obviously fuller than the other females in the show, she's kind of a voluptuous tomboy tsundere, and all she wants is to settle down Kosaku. She's kind, honest, caring, not to mention strong as she does farm work often. She's a healthy, curvy country girl who knows what she wants!

Satsuki is an outstanding cook and even manages a restaurant. She’s a very hard worker and is the school’s dinning officer and is often praised for her cooking skills. Everybody likes her and she has the ability to break up fights between martial arts students. Her calm, positive personality and soft way of speaking makes the atmosphere calm and light whenever Satsuki’s around. Satsuki always dreamed of owning her own restaurant because she loves making people happy with her cooking. Being the motivated hard-worker she is, she eventually does end up opening branches of her restaurant in orbit!

Chieko is an otaku, just like everybody else who lives at her mother's apartment building, which she manages, by the way. Her particular love is that of traditional Japanese clothes and dolls. In fact, she herself looks like a doll with her round face and since she is always seen in a kimono. Physically, she has the aforementioned chubby face, and is clearly of a thicker build than other girls in the show. Chieko is also mature and clever as not only does she manage the apartment building but she is able to stay calm in stressful situations and get what she wants. On top of all that, because of her interest in traditional clothes, she is also a gifted seamstress. My favorite part about Chieko is that in a show where everybody gets a makeover, Chieko is the only one to reject it. Why? She finds that she is stylish enough as she is! You go girl!

Pine-Pine is definitely a BBW. She's tall and has all the right junk in all the right places! Her face is chubby and her pink pouty lips are decorated by a beauty mark just to the side. Her plump physique makes her look provocative no matter if she's in her work clothes or out for a night on the town! She's so self-confident that when she takes her co-worker, Scarlet, out to a cocktail party to help her meet a man, Pine-Pine is the one who ends up getting hit on by all the guys. Dandy even refers to Scarlet as “not particularly attractive” even though at first glance she fits the stereotypical tall-skinny hot girl mold. Though it doesn't help that she's always kind of depressed and in a bad mood, unlike Pine-Pine who is not only confident but always cheerful and positive. Men can't resist a self-confident curvaceous woman!

Yuriko is a 40 year old mother and housewife. As she puts it herself, she has the body (and stamina) of a 20 year-old. Stronger than even most men, she can work all day, carry all sorts of heavy things, cook amazing dinners, and care for her husband and son without batting an eyelash. She even continued her regular hard-working, heavy-lifting lifestyle during her pregnancy. She is also an amazing mother. Yuriko has raised Takeo to be an outstanding, respectful, kind and gentle man, traits which he’s clearly gotten from her, as she is always helping others and thinking of everybody before worrying about herself. In fact, when she was pregnant with Takeo, she carried another pregnant woman to the hospital!

Risley is a member of the Mermaid Heel guild. She is naturally quite plump and she owns it, wearing a bandeau top and low-rise skirt with side slits showing off just as much skin as the skinnier girls in the show. She is also very determined and confident in her abilities. Her magic powers can change the effects of gravity around her, her opponents and herself. This allows her to move along walls, jump high and even change her body size, sometimes becoming slim when she uses her powers. However, she prefers her natural, curvier size and shape and is seen in that state most of the time. She also warns her opponents “no to underestimate the chubby”! Our list continues with another motherly figure, Ueshita Kamado who runs an orphanage and has been doing so for 14 years. She’s very caring and loves all children. She’s become involved in a life-or-death game as one of the owners of future-telling phone-diaries who must kill each other off in order to become the new God of time. Being the kind, gentle, pacifistic woman she is, she isn’t interested in being a God, and only wants to win so she can make the world a better place for children. Her sweet, round face and soft plump body make you just want to hug her and have her bake you cookies! All her children love her to death and though she won’t fight in the situation she is in, her kids will do anything to protect her.

While Sonico is made to fulfill all kinds of fan service, she's not your typical big-breasted anime cutie. Unlike most other well-endowed anime heroines, she has thick thighs, a bit of a belly and a thicker body overall. Not only that but she's usually spilling out of her (sometimes barely-there) clothes and is often seen with a bit of a muffin top or skin folds when she sits or gets in certain positions. Sonico really has more of a realistic body type of what a voluptuous sexy college girl would look like. And to top it all of, she's also a model, works at her grandmother's bar and a musician in a band! And while she's gorgeous, curvy, talented, and busy she's still a down-to-earth, somewhat clumsy, sweet girl. I'll be honest, the first time I ever saw a Sonico figure, I was very surprised and loved the fact that she had a very realistic body type. That's why, even though she was only a mascot for Nitroplus at the time, she became and still is one of my favorite characters!

It's starting to seem like a lot of chubby girls in anime are either motherly or sensual. Well, here's a girl that has the best of both worlds! Kazami Torino is a sweet, smart, generous and kind voluptuous woman who takes in girls who don't want to battle or have nowhere else to go on Mermaid Island. She really is like a mother to all the girls in the village and everybody loves her for it. Physically speaking, she is more than well endowed in the cleavage department and you can usually see where her clothes naturally dig into her hips, belly and breasts. And when you see her in a bikini (or less!) I'm sure you'd agree she's the most adorable plump MILF you've ever seen. And that's how she got to number 1 on our list!
