Once long ago, humanity was assaulted by a powerful being known as the vampire queen. Despite putting up their best efforts, humanity couldn’t match the sheer power of the vampire queen and began to lose hope. However, in one last ditch effort humanity sealed away the vampire queen temporarily till they could find a power rivaling hers. Meanwhile, the vampire king left his kingdom filled with his half-human and half-vampire followers—known as dhampirs—behind to search for his beloved queen. In fear that the king will find the seal and save the queen, humans and dhampirs team up together to stop the vampire king and keep the world safe from possible destruction. If you loved the action elements of Vampire Knight, we recommend Vampire Juujikai as a good alternative read. We absolutely loved the gorgeous art Kimura Yuri and the impressive storytelling by mangaka Shirodaira Kyou. At 9 volumes, Vampire Juujikai might be a quicker read than Vampire Knight but that doesn’t mean you’re going to get less to enjoy. Vampire Juujikai is a truly incredible manga that we know you’ll appreciate if you loved Vampire Knight. Now go pick up Vampire Juujikai and give it a try!

2. Blood Parade

Gil is a young man trying to join the Twelve Apostles so he can fight with them against the vampire race plaguing the world. However, Gil isn’t done with his tests yet and has one left to hopefully join their ranks. Gil’s final test is to travel to a nearby area and kill a vampire target known as Aran. Assigned to Gil to join him on his mission is a girl named Luna who must aid the young apostle in training. However, why has Luna been assigned to Gil and can Gil accomplish his mission so he can save the world alongside the Twelve Apostles? Another recommendation we have for those who love Vampire Knight comes in the form of Blood Parade by mangaka Karasawa Kazuyoshi. Blood Parade is only 2 volumes in length but we truly enjoyed the short story as it presented an interesting world with some truly cool vampire themes. Equally, we loved the action scenes in Blood Parade which reminded us heavily of the moments found in Vampire Knight. If you don’t want another 19-volume read like Vampire Knight and need something shorter, we recommend Blood Parade. Now let’s hope maybe we get an OVA of Blood Parade some day as we’d love to see it animated.

3. Vampire Doll: Guilt-na-Zan

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="NEOBK-19905" text="" url="" ]

Vampire Guilt-Na-Zan was sealed away more than a hundred years ago and placed within a cross. Now in present time, Kyouji has undone his ancestor’s seals on Guilt reviving him but in a rather strange way. Guilt is now trapped in a doll’s body and finds he is only able to become full sized when he sucks the blood of Kyouji’s sister Tonae. What lies in wait for Guilt when Kyouji is a pervert with some rather strange fetishes? Find out in this comedic vampire story called Vampire Doll: Guilt-na-Zan! If you need a break from vampire action and want some comedy with a tinge of horror then we have a manga for you. From mangaka Kari Erika comes Vampire Doll: Guilt-na-Zan! Despite some rather strange elements for a vampire manga, Vampire Doll: Guilt-na-Zan still has some bloodsucking creatures of the night all within in a rather unique josei manga series. Get ready to wonder what Kyouji and Guilt will do next in Vampire Doll: Guilt-na-Zan!

4. Bloody Cross

[sourceLink asin="0316322385" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[en][information_general item1 = "Authors" content1="Komeyama, Shiwo" item2="Genres" content2="Action, Shounen, Vampire, Supernatural" item3 = "Volumes" content3="12" item4="Published" content4="Feb, 2009- Jul, 2015 " ][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Mangaka" content1="___content1___" item2="Género" content2="___content2___" item3 = "Volúmenes" content3="___content3___" item4="Publicado" content4="___content4___" post_id="" ][/es]

Bloody Cross follows the tale of Tsukimiya and Hinata both of which are half angels. Those who are labeled as half angels are known as cursed beings due to their impure bloodlines. Both Tsukimiya and Hinata are on a quest in search of a book called God’s Book of Prophecy. If they can accomplish this task, they might be able to remove the curse they have. Unfortunately, this mission won’t be easy seeing as how Tsukimiya and Hinata both want the book which makes their already troubled alliance even more problematic… Don’t you love team up manga where two partners must work together despite their rocky relationship? We do too here at Honey’s Anime and that is what makes Bloody Cross so appealing to us. We loved the weird relationship Hinata and Tsukimiya have and also love the action scenes when they do work together as a team. Mangaka Komeyama Shiwo did an incredible job with the action, art and narrative seen in Bloody Cross’ 12 volume run. Honestly, we are surprised no anime was ever made of Bloody Cross as we think it would make for an amazing series but for now we’re okay with just reading it in manga form. We full recommend checking out Bloody Cross if you liked Vampire Knight.

5. Junketsu + Kareshi

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="NEOBK-1570936" text="" url="" ]
[en][information_general item1 = "Authors" content1="Shouoto, Aya" item2="Genres" content2="Mystery, Drama, Fantasy, Romance, School, Shoujo, Vampire, Harem, Supernatural" item3 = "Volumes" content3="10" item4="Published" content4="Jul, 2010- Sept, 2014" ][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Mangaka" content1="___content1___" item2="Género" content2="___content2___" item3 = "Volúmenes" content3="___content3___" item4="Publicado" content4="___content4___" post_id="" ][/es]

Life was pretty good for Kana Takachiho. Not only did she excel at sports but Kana was doing well in life overall. Unfortunately, Kana got hurt in a strange manner losing her classmates’ respect and the scholarship she needed for school. Kana still has one thing though in the form of Aki her friend since they were kids and her boyfriend, sort of. Aki though isn’t exactly normal as he proves to Kana by sucking her blood during their first date! Aki is actually a vampire and his goal in life is to save his twin from a strange slumber by finding stigmas. What lies in store for Kana now seeing as how she’s Aki’s slave? Imagine finding out that your love/friend was a vampire? Seriously, that would shock us just as much as it shocked Kana in Junketsu + Kareshi. This very fun multi genre series kept us hooked from start to finish here at Honey’s Anime HQ and we think those who loved the various genres seen in Vampire Knight will like them in Junketsu + Kareshi. Plus, if you’re looking for a shoujo themed vampire manga then you’ll like Junketsu + Kareshi even more! At 10 volumes, Junketsu + Kareshi will keep you busy for a bit and make you hopefully forget about Vampire Knight for a little while at least.

6. Hana to Akuma

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="NEOBK-734030" text="" url="" ]
[en][information_general item1 = "Authors" content1="Oto, Hisamu " item2="Genres" content2="Comedy, Demons, Mystery, Drama, Fantasy, Historical, Romance, Shoujo, Supernatural" item3 = "Volumes" content3="10" item4="Published" content4="Oct, 2007- Nov, 2010" ][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Mangaka" content1="___content1___" item2="Género" content2="___content2___" item3 = "Volúmenes" content3="___content3___" item4="Publicado" content4="___content4___" post_id="" ][/es]

Vivi Akuma has grown bored of his 200-year demon life and has left the comforts of the demon realm for the human world. Upon arriving in the human world, Vivi finds a baby who seems to have been abandoned and decides to take her for himself. Naming her Hana, Vivi raises her up and lives together like normal humans. However, can a demon and a normal girl truly live together? Find out in Hana to Akuma where a truly interesting tale is about to unfold. Ending our 6 Manga Like Vampire Knight list, we look at Hana to Akuma which might not be about vampires but still will be perfect for those who love Vampire Knight. We truly were mystified at how great Hana to Akuma is at telling an emotional tale that keeps you glued to your manga pages while you watch Vivi and Hana’s lives unfold volume after volume. We won’t spoil Hana to Akuma but we will say this shoujo demo story will truly make your heart melt and that is because mangaka Oto Hisamu did a terrific job with this 10-volume series. We can’t recommend Hana to Akuma enough folks and you’ll be glad you read it when you do.

This is the official 2nd Season of The Seven Deadly Sins (Nanatsu no Taizai). The current era is that of one where the world of humans and the world of those who are non-human have not been separated. With great and terrible power, revered by many, and sometimes feared by the population, the Holy Knights protected the Kingdom of Liones. The princess of the kingdom, Princess Elizabeth, just one person, has stepped out of her country on a journey searching for some certain people. They are feared as the most powerful and darkest band of knights, betraying their country, and making the Holy Knights their enemies; they are the great sinners, for they are the Seven Deadly Sins. After her arduous journey, she arrives at a bar where she encounters the store owner; a boy named Meliodas. That is where she, the Seven Deadly Sins, and the world’s fate itself, begin to change greatly. Doing an about-face, the adventure begins!

  • After teasing that the only way we were getting more of our favorite admiral loli school girls was if the OVAs sold, nothing really happened. Then, out of nowhere yesterday, it was announced that Haifuri (High School Fleet) will be getting an anime movie!
  • At an event held for Haifuri, it was announced that production studios would also change and A-1 Pictures will now be animating the movie. The TV series was animated by Production IMS, who has recently been called out on twitter for still not paying the animators for their work on it, so that is most likely the reason that production shifted to A-1 Pictures.
  • At the event, the comittee also announced that the series would be adapted for pachiko slot machines as well in Japan. More information will be coming in the future, so stay tuned for updates!

In the northern Kanto area in Japan, there is Binan City… At Binan High School, as per usual, the “Earth Defense Club (lol)” was a club that did nothing. The club members Kyoutarou Shuzenji, Ryouma Kirishima, Nanao Wakura, Taishi Manza, and Ichiro Dogou nonchalantly enjoyed tea while having pointless conversations that amount to nothing. All of them have now gathered at Kurotama Bath after school. When Ryouma pulls Kyoutarou Shuzenji by his arm out of water that he claims feels too good, together with his towel comes a pretty boy in strange clothing. These five boys are then dragged into a battle for the heir of the magical kingdom, Honyala Land...

6 Anime Like Kizumonogatari [Recommendations]

[ad_top1 class="mb40"]
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="ANSB-12205" text="" url="" ]

Monogatari is a tough act to follow. Based on Isin Nisio and VOFAN's light novel series, this franchise deals with relatively mainstream subjects like vampires and other supernatural creatures. Largely taking place at Naoetsu Private High School, even the high school setting is rather typical for this type of mystery anime. While the pieces might seem familiar, the full picture is distinct and unmatched. With a story that is engaging but slow, Monogatari manages to be beautiful and uncomfortable. With multiple different seasons, Kizumonogatari is the perfect entry point to the series. An adaptation of the second book, this trilogy serves as an origin story for Koyomi Araragi's misadventures and establishes how the protagonist learned about vampires. On a lonely night, Araragi runs into the bleeding Shinobu Oshino, a centuries-old vampire who requires his blood to survive. Despite his initial decision to flee, Araragi returns to help the vampire and becomes her servant. Once Oshino is revived, she promises to return Araragi to his human form if the teenager defeats the slayers who nearly killed her. Kizumonogatari has a wicked sense of humor and an unflinching thirst for blood. The anime might not focus too much on actual combat, but there are multiple graphic scenes that can be difficult to watch. Araragi's first encounter with Oshino is a perfect example of Kizumonogatari's artistic brutality. When it comes to the Monogatari series, Shaft has consistently delivered breathtaking art that mixes CGI and digital animation to create a truly unsettling atmosphere. While style is definitely a priority, Kizumonogatari does not lack substance, with the cast developing as the trilogy progresses. For those who love Kizumonogatari, here are six similar anime worth watching.

When it comes to vampire anime, one would be remiss to not mention the Blood franchise. With its breathtaking action and visuals, Blood: The Last Vampire was an important release for the industry and genre. Over the years, its successors have tried their best to replicate the movie's magic; unfortunately, the results have been rather mixed. Blood-C: The Last Dark is probably the best release associated with the series since 2005's Blood+. Saya Kisaragi's life has been destroyed by the many monsters that plague her village. Working as a bonafide hunter, Saya only exists to quench her thirst for vengeance. She is driven by anger and hatred, as she tracks down and slaughters any creature unfortunate enough to get in her way. The Last Dark sees Saya joining a group of hackers, although they might not be particularly trustworthy. While nowhere near as experimental as Kizumonogatari, Blood-C: The Last Dark remains a visual spectacle. If nothing else, Production I.G. knows how to present a gorgeous final product. The action is fast and horrific, with the story incorporating elements of horror. The Last Dark is perfect for those who enjoyed Kizumonogatari's scenes with the vampire slayers and would like something that focused more on the action.

Shiki is a terrifying anime that blurs the line between human and monster. With barely any action or comedy, Daume's series dedicates a great deal of time to establishing the characters who exist within the village of Sotoba. Young and slightly arrogant, Megumi Shimizu dreams of leaving her humble village to live in a metropolis. Sadly, Shimizu's life is tragically cut short and the teenager is found dead. This marks the start of a strange epidemic that slowly takes hold of Sotoba. Toshio Ozaki, a doctor working on the case, starts to wonder whether there is something more to this unexplainable disease, as rumors spread that Shimizu's ghost has been seen walking around town. With the epidemic worsening by the day, a struggle begins to decide the faith of Sotoba village. Shiki and Kizumonogatari are both slow-paced anime that place importance on creating a sense of mystery and intrigue around their narratives. Shiki tackles vampirism in a relatively realistic way and humans are portrayed as grey characters. Shaft's movie and Daume's series are unique, they approach a popular genre from a fresh perspective, resulting in a final product that is otherworldly.

Owari no Seraph is a shounen anime that takes place in an alternate reality where mankind was enslaved by powerful vampires. Serving as blood banks for their overlords; Yuuichirou, Mikaela Hyakuya, and a group of other children are captured within an orphanage and turned into livestock. With their future prospects seeming slim, Mikaela plans an exciting escape from their hell. Unfortunately, things do not go as planned and only Yuuichirou manages to escape. Once out in the open, the young boy is picked up by the Japanese Imperial Demon Army and joins their ranks. From this point forward, Yuuichirou dedicates his life to destroying the vampires who killed his family. Primarily, Owari no Seraph is an action series with military and supernatural elements. Stylistically, the anime is rather straightforward, but the vampires are allowed enough character development to not come across as mindless monsters. Similarly to Kizumonogatari, Owari no Seraph's nightwalkers are educated and humanized, making them an interesting group to follow. Araragi's goal is to defeat the slayers who hurt Oshino, while Yuuichirou seeks revenge for the vampires who slaughtered his family.

If there is one studio capable of matching Shaft's stunning animation, Madhouse would be it. Spanning over six years, Hellsing: Ultimate delivered ten stunning OVAs packed to the brim with fantastic characters, graphic violence, and deranged humor. A faithful adaptation of Kouta Hirano's long-running manga, Ultimate finally gave Alucard the respect he deserves. You know what is worse than vampires? Neo-nazis who just cannot die. Alucard is a bloodthirsty and sadistic creature who works for Hellsing, an organization dedicated to destroying monsters threatening humanity's very survival. Led by Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing, they must fight off monsters and humans who oppose their existence. Hellsing: Ultimate's sense of humor is a perfect alternative to the Monogatari series. While it lacks the subtlety of Shaft's anime, Madhouse more than makes up for it with over-the-top showdowns and bombastic fights. Both series prioritize character development, although Ultimate moves at a faster paced than Kizumonogatari. With their huge weapons and cool demeanor, the trilogy's vampire slayers could easily pass for Hellsing villains.

Split into eight different chapters, JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken is one of the most popular manga of the last few decades. Capable of being funny, terrifying, and progressive; JoJo's Bizarre Adventure introduces a fresh protagonist with every new season. Whether referring to Phantom Blood or Stardust Crusaders, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is defined by a unique art style and quirky characters. Jonathan Joestar is the heir to the Joestar family fortune but things take an expected turn when the ambitious but sinister Dio Brando is adopted by Jonathan's father. This triggers a tiring battle for dominance, one that involves vampires and strange powers called stands. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is Kizumonogatari's shounen equivalent. Both series make great use of editing and visual exaggerations to establish an otherworldly tone to their stories. The rotating cast is always stacked with memorable personalities, as they deliver hilarious punchlines and battle an array of supernatural entities. Kizumonogatari follows a human who is forced to engage in an ancient conflict between vampires and hunters, while JoJo's Bizarre Adventure's protagonist tends to be a normal person who has to deal with supernatural entities trying to take over the world.

6. Kara no Kyoukai 5: Mujun Rasen (The Garden of sinners Chapter 5: Paradox Paradigm)

The Garden of Sinners is a challenging anime to explain. Based on a series of light novels written by Kinoko Nasu and illustrated by Takashi Takeuchi, the movies center around supernatural cases investigated by Shiki Ryōgi and Mikiya Kokutō. The former possesses an ability known as the "Mystic Eyes of Death Perception," which allows her to predict an object's death and prevent it. Describing Kizumonogatari as a vampire anime would be misleading, and the same can be said for Kara no Kyoukai. The story is dense and demands the audience's full attention. Similarly to Shaft's anime, the movies are not presented in chronological order, but they do make sense when experienced as a whole. When talking about mystery anime, these two franchises are among the very best. We are not just talking about an interesting or unpredictable investigation, but the stories are presented in a way that challenges viewers. Kara no Kyoukai 5: Mujun Rasen is arguably the best of the bunch, although it would not be recommended to skip its predecessors. A common theme in Monogatari is duality, especially between Araragi's human and supernatural lives, which is quite similar to Ryougi's conflicting personalities. Born into a mostly male family, the investigator ends up developing masculine and feminine personas. Kara no Kyoukai 5: Mujun Rasen can be rather disturbing and, in terms of graphic violence, eclipses Kizumonogatari.

The Garden of sinners: Chapter 5 PV

Final Thoughts

Putting aside the rest of the franchise, Kizumonogatari is one of a kind. There might be series with similar plots, but few aim to deliver an experience identical to Shaft's story. These six recommended anime are about as close as they get. More importantly, they are creative and unique, which are Kizumonogatari's two biggest defining characteristics. Is there any other anime that you would recommend for fans of Kizumonogatari? If yes, please leave us a comment below with your recommendations.

Top 10 Most Tragic A.I.C.O.: Incarnation Characters

[ad_top1 class="mb40"]

When the “Burst” happened, life on Japan changed completely. It was caused by a biological research project working on creating artificial life forms and it destroyed the Kurobe Gorge, filling it with synthetic life forms known as Matter, and making the atmosphere hostile to humans. Two years after the burst, life around the Gorge has managed to get somewhat back to normal. Professional “Divers” go into the Gorge from time to time to recover data from the Matter and try to destroy it, while normal people try to live as calmly as they can. One of the latter is Aiko Tachibana, a girl who was wheelchair-bound shortly before the burst, and whose family disappeared during the event. But when she meets a new transfer student, Yuuya Kanzaki, she finds herself able to walk again and thus faces going back into the Gorge to find what happened to her mother and brother. A.I.C.O.- Incarnation is a very pleasant surprise this anime season. The story is very engaging, the characters memorable, and the final twists quite heartbreaking. This means that there’s a lot of tragedy to share, and we feel for those characters, since we want to see them overcome their past and get a happy ending. So here we have a list of the 10 most tragic characters in A.I.C.O.- Incarnation. Just a small warning: as we’re going to talk about some very important things that happen to all the characters, there will be spoilers in this. Proceed with caution!

10. Mrs. Tachibana and Ryouta Tachibana

We don’t know much about Mrs. Tachibana and her son Ryouta except for Aiko’s memories, but what we see is more than enough to know that in a very short time, they suffered a lot. After being a very close and happy family, things started to go wrong on Aiko’s birthday. First, Aiko and her dad were involved in a terrible car accident, where he died protecting her. Then, Mrs. Tachibana had to keep her feelings controlled, as her daughter was the subject of a very dangerous and experimental surgery in order to save her life. And while said surgery was taking place, the Burst happened and she was helpless, watching how her daughter was taken away and everyone around her and her son died at the Matter’s hands. From Aiko’s memories, we could only imagine that their last moments were terrifying. However, Yuuya Kanzaki revealed to Aiko that that wasn’t the truth. While her memories of seeing her mother and brother run away from the helicopter that took her to safety were correct, Aiko was wrong in thinking that they had died. Instead, they were trapped by the Matter, inside a semi-transparent cocoon filled with an unknown liquid. So that’s another tragedy to layer upon them: even if they could be saved, in the end, they would’ve lost two years of their lives. Not an easy thing to wake up to. And with this tragedy, they open up our list on the tenth place.

9. Maho Shiraishi

Maho Shiraishi looks very out of place among the divers. She looks very fragile, as if she would be better placed as a kindergarten teacher, or a gentle housewife. This is especially obvious when she takes her time to make food for everyone, trying to make their rations more appetizing despite the situation. She also acts like a mother to all of them, worried for their health and keeping their diver suits and their vehicles perfectly maintained. She’s Daisuke Shinoyama’s partner and what little we know of their past makes it clear that she loves him dearly. And it’s her gentleness what makes her so tragic. Because she shouldn’t be there, watching the man she loves and the people she cares for risk their lives time and time again. And as they get closer and closer to the Burst’s Ground Zero, she has to witness more death, and even worse, is made complicit of a terrible choice. And yet, she manages to maintain her gentleness. Her tears for those lost are what give her the ninth place on our list.

8. Yuzuha Izasu

At first, we don’t see much of Yuzuha Izasu. She appears only in her father’s memories as a very talented girl who loves the violin and is friendly with everyone. However, at some point possibly before the Burst, she suffered a terrible accident that left her in a comma. Since then, her father has been doing everything in his hands to try and restore her consciousness. A little girl in a comma is quite tragic, but as the story unfolds, things get worse. When the Divers arrive at Ground Zero, Yuuya is captured by the Matter and is sent to a place that seems to be the mental link between the Matter and human brains. And that’s where he meets Yuzuha, who has been lost in limbo, unable to find her way back to her body. The idea of a little girl lost without being able to communicate with anyone and only seeing through the matter as people get hurt or killed by the artificial life form is nothing short of horrifying. And that is exactly why Yuzuha has the eighth place on our list.

7. Daisuke Shinoyama

One of the most experienced Divers in the team and Shiraishi’s partner. They were together even before the burst, as their dialogue implies they were in the military together. Of all the Divers, he’s the only one who knew Kurose before the mission, and because of that, he feels very responsible for the team. Even more when he finds out that Yuuya lied to them and to Aiko, so he swears that if anyone in his team gets hurt, he’ll get to kill Yuuya. He’s a hardened soldier, who has seen the horrors of combat. He also had a lot of experience in the darkest, more dangerous parts of the Gorge against the Matter. And yet, he never lost his good heart, or his gentleness with everyone around him. This is what makes it more tragic when he is the first death on the team. His loss is felt hard by everyone, and what makes this death hurt more is that it could’ve been prevented if only the team had had more information about their mission. These are all the reasons why Daisuke Shinoyama climbs to the seventh place on our list.

6. Susumu Kurose

Few people shoulder as much guilt as Susumu Kurose does. He was one of the original team of researches in the Kiryu Biotech Research Facility, and was also the developer of the Cell Assembler technology that helped the project. Single and apparently carefree, he was also one of the doctors in charge of Aiko Tachibana’s care once the Burst happened. At first, it seems that he’s just one of the many people trying to keep her in the dark of her true nature, but soon we learn that he is one of the very few allies Yuuya Kanzaki has in his mission to undo the Burst. It’s when you realize that he is the only person who knows who Yuuya Kanzaki really is and what their connection to the Burst is that the true tragedy of his life comes to focus. He’s sacrificing everything he worked hard to get in order to help someone else redeem their sins, and by doing that, he’s also risking his friend’s lives. It comes to a point where you wonder if Kurose made things worse by lying, and then it’s possible to believe that maybe he did, and he knows. Which makes him even more tragic and a worthy contender for the sixth place on our list.

[ad_middle]

5. Kaede Misawa

Kaede is one of the youngest of the Divers we met, and Haruka’s partner. At first, it seems as if nothing really worries her. She is in the Diver business for the money and has excellent reflexes, which makes her one of the best. At times, Kaede may seem uncaring and cold, especially with people she doesn’t know well, but Haruka knows that it’s because she has learned to hide her feelings to avoid being hurt. At one point, she implies she’s a runaway, and that she wouldn't go back to her family even if she got paid which hints to a very bad childhood. Because she’s a secondary character in Aiko’s journey, we don’t get to see much of her or her story. But what we know is enough to make her endearing to everyone. She is completely loyal and easy to anger when her abilities are called into question. Although she doesn’t want to accept it, she’s completely in love with Yoshihiko Sagami and, as she learns to open up, she becomes a bit more obvious in her affections even as she tries to keep her feelings hidden. It’s a paradox that makes the viewer wonder if she will have the opportunity to tell him the truth before the Matter engulfs them all. Because of her mysterious past, and the small hints of tragedy that we can hear in her words, Kaede has the fifth place on our list.

4. Kasuki Minase

If you told any of the other divers that Kasuki has tragedy in his past, they would probably laugh. He’s the least experimented Diver we meet and partners with Yoshihiko Sagami who, most of the time, seems to be there to keep Kasuki out of danger rather than to pay attention to the mission. Kasuki is very outgoing, expressive, and friendly, which makes him stand out among the divers that are helping Aiko. At some point in his past, he lost his right arm, but because his family has a lot of money, he got an artificial one, so he doesn’t really seem to suffer from the loss. What makes Kasuki tragic is his big heart. From the moment he met Aiko, he fell in love with her and tried hard to make her feel welcome among the Divers. He was always there, trying to cheer her up and assure her that they would find her family, even when he could see that Aiko was more interested in Yuuya. And here’s where the tragedy begins, when Yuuya reveals that Aiko is not real, but an artificial brain created to keep the real Aiko’s body working during the surgery to save her life and that, for the Burst to end, she has to die. Kasuki then has to watch the woman he loves insist that she’s not real, that she can’t be loved. That, and the last twist of the series, are what make Kasuki earn the fourth place on our list.

3. Kyousuke Izasu

The head of Kiryu Hospital, and thus, the man in charge of Aiko’s treatment and care. He also used to be part of the Kiryu Biotech Research Facility and one of the three doctors who were in charge of the artificial lifeforms. While this would mean that he’s the man to come to with questions, the truth is that Aiko and Yuuya spend most of their time running away from him because he is not willing to destroy the Matter yet, as he is convinced it holds the key to saving his daughter. This makes everything he does tragic because, later on, we find out that the Matter itself is what’s keeping Yuzuha from reaching him. As she is connected to it –something that may have been done before the Burst but is not really explained- she can’t find the way back to her body. So while the solution would be to just turn everything off, which is what Yuuya wants to do, Kyousuke is convinced that what he needs is more Matter. So he is, effectively, working against his own goal without knowing it. Because he is his own worst enemy, and how tragically his story ends, Kyousuke climbs to the third place on our list.

2. Aiko Tachibana

Aiko Tachibana seems to have had it pretty rough. As we said in the opening of the article, she was in a terrible car accident that killed her father and put her in a wheelchair, even after a very dangerous life-saving surgery. But that is just the beginning of the tragedy of the girl we get to know as Aiko. Once Yuuya manages to get her away from the school and the watchful eye of the Kiryu Hospital, he explains to her what the surgery was: Her human brain was put in an artificial body, and an artificial brain was put in her body to keep it alive during the operation. This was what caused the Burst, so in order to reverse it, they need to put the original brain in the human body and vice versa, which will effectively kill the copy. This is hard enough for poor Aiko, as she really doesn’t want someone –even an artificial copy of herself- to die. Still, she wants to save her family, so she soldiers on with Yuuya and the Divers to Ground Zero. And that’s where she finds out the truth: She is not the original brain, but the artificial brain, and thus, she’s the one who has to die for the Burst to be over. And this is where her true tragedy begins, when she has to decide if she’s a real person deserving to live or a copy of the real Aiko who should die to let the real human live. Due to this impossible choice, and the way it’s resolved, Aiko earns the second place on our list.

1. Yuuya Kanzaki / Yura Toshihide

Yuuya Kanzaki is a man of mystery. We meet him when he is introduced to Aiko’s class as a new transfer student and no one knows anything about him. Some students suppose he’s a “burster”, an orphan from the Burst, others that he may be rich. But they all are wrong as, in fact, he was only there in order to make contact with Aiko Tachibana and make her trust him enough to get her away from the Kiryu hospital. Once he does that, not only do we realize he is part of a group dedicated to study and stop the Burst, but that Yuuya Kanzaki is not even his real name. Legally, he doesn’t exist and everything he used to get close to Aiko was faked somehow. It’s not until much, much later that we find the truth. Just as the Aiko Tachibana we know is an artificial brain inside a human body, Yuuya Kanzaki is a human brain inside an artificial body. He was originally Yura Toshihide, the doctor in charge of Aiko’s surgery and thus, the one responsible for the Burst. He got fatally injured in the event, but thanks to Kurose and an artificial body that was not reclaimed, he managed to live and create a new identity for himself. And yet, he can’t stop feeling guilty for every life lost in the Burst and is determined to atone for his sins, even if that means dying again. Because of the guilt he carries, and the fact that he has to kill an innocent in order to undo his greatest mistake, Yura Toshihide, now known as Yuuya Kanzaki, earns the first place on our list.

Final thoughts

Tragedy is, unfortunately, part of life. And while no one wants to live through hardships, when characters of our favorite series manage to overcome those obstacles, we can’t help but cheer for them. No matter how bad our life is, sometimes, seeing someone survive a greater tragedy can give us a push to fight against our own. This is why we need to ask you if you agree with our countdown. Do you think there should be a different order? What is the biggest tragedy you see in A.I.C.O.- Incarnation? We are looking forward to your answers in the comments below.

"What is life and what is the meaning of it all?" Scholars throughout time have attempted to answer that question, but are left without a concrete definition to share with those who seek it. The former problem only leads to more queries, broadening these terms to include who, what, where, why, when and how life can be meaningful to each. The special stages through which someone passes during their lifetime can only be defined by the conditions an individual is captured in. In the anime movie La Maison en Petits Cubes, we see the memories of an elderly man flash before our eyes as he attempts to retrieve his beloved pipe. Producing strong emotions and with thought-provoking principles, here are our picks for 6 anime movies like La Maison en Petits Cubes.

Rain Town is set in a grey, gloomy and uninhabited town. In desolation, the overcast seems to make this place drearier than it already is. Broken down machines and junk scattered about, the scene suddenly changes when a young girl in a brightly colored raincoat enters into the spotlight along with her new mysterious robot friend. Together, the girl and the robot bring light and life into this constantly rainy place. They return to one another with a sense of joy and warmth, shedding away the pains of loneliness and former sorrow. Mainly, they are the sunshine in each other’s lives. Rain Town and La Maison en Petits Cubes are two bittersweet short anime movies that don’t contain any dialogue, but direct viewers to imagine what is said by using beautiful musical accompaniment and animation. Water in both solid and liquid form is a similar theme in both and coincidently is a necessity of life. Furthermore, Rain Town and La Maison en Petits Cubes are simple and easy to follow, but leave a trail of questions to answer once viewers have reached the end.

My Life is a short film that documents the timeline of a girl’s life. She recounts her past, seeing herself as she is in the present and ponders her future. All of these events are exposed to her in this 4-minute anime movie. Many of us wonder if we have done enough fulfilling things in our lives to make them worthwhile. My Life helps us reflect on that question, inspiring viewers to do a little more with the only life the cosmos has given us. Our stories are not all the same, and the life of an individual can be short-lived or an epic tale. We are never confident about what tomorrow holds for any of us, and that is the message both My Life and La Maison en Petits Cubes share. Both the young girl and elderly man reflect on memories that had an impact on their soul. Whether it was a good or bad memory, it is something they long to hold on to because it is a part of them. As My Life and La Maison en Petits Cubes are similar in theme and storytelling style, the characters make us think about the different ways we can define the meaning of life.

Nipponbashi Street Festa 2018 - Post-Show Field Report

$

[ad_top1 class="mt40"]

Two things Japan loves are street festivals and cosplay, so it makes perfect sense to combine the two, right? That’s exactly what happens for one Sunday every year in Nipponbashi, the otaku and pop culture centre of Osaka, Japan. Street Festa has been going strong for 14 years now as a celebration in the city streets that brings thousands of cosplayers out to have fun together. It’s a chance for people to show off their cosplay and photography skills, make new friends and meet up with old ones, eat street food, and just celebrate a love for pop culture together. From about 10 am to 5 pm, the streets of Nipponbashi were flooded with thousands of cosplayers, photographers, and curious onlookers all enjoying the moment and celebrating together. Alongside Animate, K-Books and other otaku shops, cafes and restaurants, and countless street food vendors set up for the day, Street Festa left no shortage of things to do. It was a party in the streets for the whole day, and we were lucky enough to go along and have a great time, too!

[ad_top2 class="mt40"]

Basic Info

When it was Established 2004
Length of event 1 day, held in March
Location Nipponbashi Denden Town Osaka, Japan
Cost ¥2000 for cosplayers/photographers Includes entrance to changing areas and baggage storage, as well as exclusive event spaces Available in advance in shops around the Nipponbashi area or on the day near the cosplay changing areas

What to Expect

People start to arrive early for Street Festa, especially cosplayers. As with all cosplay events in Japan, you’re expected to arrive in street clothes and change into your cosplay in the designated changing space provided at the event. Either in advance or on the day, cosplayers were able to buy a special wristband for ¥2,000 (a little less than $20 USD) that gave access to the changing area and free baggage storage. Because of this system, though, the queues were very long even from early morning. This was especially true for the girls, despite having two different massive changing areas compared to the guys’ one! So as a cosplayer, plan to get there early so you can try to have a shorter waiting time, and be able to spend more of your day out enjoying the event rather than queuing to change. If you’ve never cosplayed in Japan before, it’s also a good idea to practise getting ready in your cosplay sitting on the floor in a small space and using just a hand mirror. Luckily, Street Festa didn’t have any rules about how many bags or what type of luggage you could leave and the baggage storage was huge, so whatever you need to do to safely and securely transport your cosplay is okay. Just be aware that you leave everything at your own risk; there was no system other than the trust to the baggage area, where you left things wherever you wanted and picked them up on your own again when you were ready to leave.

For photographers, a special camera strap was also available for the same ¥2,000 price. Of course, many photographers didn’t have it and just took photos anyway, but it’s a great way to show your support for the event and help them keep running it every year! There were also a few areas of the cosplay zone and event space where you had to have either the wristband or camera strap to enter even while the rest of the streets had no regulations. If you want full access to the event and more respect as a photographer, it’s a good idea to get the strap as well. One of the most important things to expect is the crowds. Because Nipponbashi Street Festa brings in thousands of people every year and puts them into one neighbourhood of Osaka, it’s very very busy. Despite the main streets being closed to traffic for the larger part of the day, it’s still difficult to move at times, especially when people are stopping to take pictures. The back streets are a bit better and there are small areas where you can find a bit of a reprieve, but generally, the streets are crowded. Of course, more people means more cosplayers, but it’s something to keep in mind for people that don’t like crowds - and also for planning your cosplay or props that you intend to bring! Be aware you’ll be navigating constantly through a sea of people. One more thing to note; most of the toilets available are portable toilets, and they are all Japanese-style squatting toilets. It’s best to know this and be ready for it in advance rather than surprised on the day!

[ad_middle]

What to Bring in Order to Enjoy the Event

*A camera

Of course, what you need most is a camera of your own! You’re likely to see so many amazing and talented cosplayers, and nothing is a bigger compliment to them than asking to take their picture. Some even are happy to take a picture with you! You’ll definitely regret not bringing your own camera to document everyone that you meet and see considering how many photograph-worthy people are literally everywhere. So at the very least, bring your phone. But you might want to bring an even better camera to really capture some great shots!

*A reasonable bag

Cosplayers tend to need at least some kind of bag to keep personal belongings in, especially as many outfits don’t have pockets. From storing phones and wallets to keeping some safety pins and make up handy, it’s good to have a bag that is easy to carry the essentials. Keeping in mind that Street Festa is insanely crowded, that bag is a reasonable size to move through the crowd while still holding what you need is important. Plan in advance what you’ll want to have with you all day and decide on a bag that is the perfect size for that, and not taking up unnecessary space. You’ll thank yourself later in the crowds.

*A rechargeable battery

Let’s face it, in today’s world we tend to be on our phones a lot. Between the camera, messaging friends, following people on Twitter and other social media, and using the GPS you’ll probably use your phone regularly at Street Festa. There’s nothing worse than being in the queue to change back into your street clothes when your phone dies and you can’t message your friend of the opposite gender waiting in the other queue. Or you really want to snap a shot of a cosplayer being your favourite character but you don’t have any battery left! It’s a good idea to have another rechargeable battery for your phone handy. Better safe than sorry!

What to do While There / What is Available

The main thing to do at Nipponbashi Street Festa is to cosplay! While many cosplay events in Japan focus on just standing in one place all day while people queue up to take your photo, that’s only a small part of Street Festa. Of course, you’re welcome to find somewhere great to stand and pose for people. In fact, the Cosplay Area is made for exactly that, and is safely off the road and requires a purchased wristband or camera strap to enter it. So if you like to have a nice set up to pose and get photos done, it’s definitely an option. But in addition to that, Street Festa gives cosplayers the chance to just walk around and hang out in cosplay! You’re just as likely to get stopped in the street and spoken to and asked to take a quick picture. You can even enjoy getting some cool shots playing in the game centres, shopping, eating, and more. Instead of being restricted to a convention space, Street Festa gives cosplayers the freedom to cosplay in public. It’s great for getting some cool pictures done and just having fun in cosplay with your friends!

Street Festa has a few other events and fun attractions throughout the day. One is the cosplay parade, which lets you watch a wide variety of cosplayers showcasing their work in the streets. There are also areas set up with pachinko machines you can try, a stage for some music performances, and a lot of companies with booths set up selling merchandise and advertising for animation schools and the like. You can do a bit of shopping or browsing around talking to the representatives if you’d like to take a break from the crowded streets. At the end of the day, there was also a huge after party at a local club featuring lots of otaku music for an additional cost. Because Nipponbashi Street Festa is right in the middle of Osaka otaku neighbourhood, Denden Town, there’s plenty of shops to visit if you need to take a break! There are countless anime stores you can visit, along with a lot of cafes and restaurants. Many vendors have set up stands selling street foods like chocolate bananas, and Osaka-favourite takoyaki. There are several game centres in the area too that offer diversions like games, crane machines, and purikura photo booths. There are even a few maid cafes that were open and entertaining customers! Most of these businesses were happy to let cosplayers inside, so you can do a bit of shopping or grab a bite to eat if you get bored of just taking photos for a while.

Cosplay

Of course, the main focus of Nipponbashi Street Festa is the cosplay! That’s what most of the attendees are there for. The cosplay system is like most events in Japan – after you arrive in your casual wear, you go to the designated changing area and change into your cosplay in the large dressing room. Then you are able to store your bags in a safe place until you’re ready to change and go home. All of this service is included in the price of the wristband, so all you have to do is show the wristband and you can change. The queue for men was taking an average of about 30 minutes throughout the day and for women a little more than an hour (due to there being considerably more female cosplayers in attendance).

After you’re in your cosplay, it’s time to take to the streets and start taking photographs! An incredible variety of cosplay was represented in 2018, with people wearing their favourite outfits from anime, video games, Star Wars, Disney, Marvel, and more. From newer anime like Boku no Hero Academia to older ones like Eureka Seven and Bleach, everyone was just happy to represent their favourites and have fun. People really brought out their best and most impressive skills as well with full suits of armour, incredible theatre makeup, massive weapons, and more. Getting stopped by one person to take a picture usually resulted in a chain reaction of more and more people stopping to also take pictures. This made walking through the streets slowly, but with nowhere specific to go, everyone’s attitudes remained positive.

Everyone was happy to see other cosplayers from the same series as them as well, calling one another by character names and exchanging social media and pictures. Many cosplayers in Japan carry cosplay business cards with their photo and social media links on them, making it easy to exchange with one another and with photographers so that they can link up again later and share pictures. If you’re planning to regularly cosplay in Japan, it’s a good idea to get some printed as well; there are many affordable services to get them done online. It’s the easiest way to make new friends and to make sure you get back some of the pictures that are taken of you!

Final Thoughts

Osaka is known for being a friendly and laid-back part of Japan full of personable people who immediately treat you like they’ve always known you. That stereotype holds very true at Street Festa where cosplayers aren’t afraid to compliment each other, get excited together, and even give hugs and high fives like you’ll rarely see at other cosplay events in Japan. It’s not a competition, though everyone brings their best to showcase all the same. It’s a chance to make friends, and party together in the streets having a good time! Of course, it’s crowded and that can be frustrating at times, but it’s better to look at the crowds as a reminder of just how many people are out to cosplay together. It may only be for one afternoon once a year, but people plan for Street Festa for the whole year - and make memories that they’re unlikely to forget for a long time. Besides, with the thousands of pictures taken that end up flooding social media like Twitter for days afterward, cosplayers can bask in the event for a long time anyway! Did you make it to Nipponbashi Street Festa this year or in the past? Would you like to go someday? Who it Caters to

Crazy Dreamz: Best Of is definitely a game geared towards people that are in love with platforming. We don't feel like this is a game for casual gamers looking for a new game to enjoy and pass the time. The content is somewhat limited and basic. But, having said, that there are some things that everybody can appreciate from this game. For example the vibrant art style, the friendly music, and uniqueness of the game's core concept. Definitely try out the free to play version, MagiCats Edition, before purchasing this one. If you enjoy that game, then, by all means, jump right into this feline-lovers' dream. Best Of is the first game developed by Dreamz Studio. It uses the same engine and artwork as Crazy Dreams: MagiCats Edition (early access), but this one is "crowd developed". We'll get into what that means later on.

What to Expect

You can expect to be immersed in a world filled with eye-popping backgrounds and slow-moving enemies that you will breeze past or mow down as you make your way to the end of each level. You can, of course, try to complete each level as fast as possible in order to earn the best time compared to other people who have the game. You can look forward to various types of level designs. Some levels will be filled with moving objects that you have to nimbly maneuver around. While others will be filled with different types of movable objects and devices that will either bounce you up into the sky or reverse gravity. Some levels even have side-scroller elements to them. The biggest improvement from the other edition (and one that fans are very pleased about) is that there seem to be far fewer bugs. Many community members complained about issues with the early access version of MagiCats Edition, but this one is more polished. Dreamz Studio also added a few new environments exclusive to this title as well as various skins to customize your costume, hat, and weapon. These customizable items are earned through various accomplishments such as taking down bosses from each world.
So this version of the game is called “Best of”. That means that the best-designed levels from community members have been aggregated into one complete game. The developers are calling this "the first crowd-developed game". It's honestly a bold choice and one that aspiring developers can definitely appreciate. What’s cool about it is that 50% of the revenue of this game goes to the creators of the levels. You can also donate tips through in-game options that go directly (as far as we can tell) to the creators of the levels. This game uses the same art design and engine as MagiCats Edition.

[ad_top2 class="mt40 mb40"]

Story

Crazy Dreams: MagiCats Edition was designed to be a "2D sandbox platformer with a twist". The core concept revolves around players building their own levels and challenging other community members to top their designs. Story and characters are more of an afterthought. Here is the underlying premise for Best of you are a powerful cat mage living in the MagiCat Kingdom. You were on a quest to find fish, your favorite food when suddenly the kingdom was invaded by an army. The soldiers are called Raters and they are stealing the magic from the kingdom. Your role in all of this is to return the powers to the kingdom before they are lost forever. As you progress through levels you'll receive advice from an ethereal cat-sage. You'll also encounter several monster types and the powerful bosses from each world.

Gameplay

It’s hard to deny that the game definitely has very colorful backgrounds that are vivid and pop. It takes a lot of work to hand-draw 2-D environments, so we can very much appreciate the time they put into adding new environments for this release. Also, the entire game gives off a very friendly and playful vibe. You'll be able to see for yourself in the various images we've included in this article. The controls on this game feel very fluid and extremely responsive. It’s a real joy to move your character around the screen and throw attacks at the enemies all while constantly moving forward or jumping off of walls. We personally prefer to use a controller for these types of games. However, a keyboard works just as well. Community members are praising this game for its unique level design and creative feel. Fans of platforming games will find that this game almost never feels repetitive or stale. Besides the environments themselves, enemy placement and behavior have been customized to meet the creator's desires. It's truly impressive to see what they've managed to do with the bit of coding options Dreamz Studio gave them to work with.
There are ten different levels in each world. Nine of them are regular levels and the center one is where you fight the boss. There are ten different worlds in all. After playing through five of the levels you will be able to fight the boss of each world. Once the boss is defeated, you can move onto the next world. The bosses are generals of the Raters army that has invaded the kingdom. They each have their own attack routine and movements. A few of them are actually challenging. You don’t have to complete all of the levels in order to progress (if you don't want to). There's replay value if you want to beat your current best time or beat the leaderboard time. We did encounter one bug in our playthrough. After defeating a boss you receive a new aesthetic item. Every time we entered the menu to look at our items and then returned to the world select screen, we could no longer use our controller. We had to go back to the main menu, using a mouse. Then, we could regain use of the controller. It wasn't a big issue. It was just a little bit annoying.
[ad_middle class="mt40 mb40"]

Honey's Gameplay Consensus:

Overall, the game felt relatively bland lackluster to us. The community created levels and monetary compensation is a great element of this title, but it feels sort of like a gimmick. There’s a free to access version that is still incomplete. But, then they’re charging for this version and giving half of the revenue to the content creators. Their intentions are noble, but the execution feels a bit strange. The game itself can don’t stand out. We’d rather spend the money to purchase several other platforming games that have better mechanics and storytelling.

Honey's Pros:

  • Artwork
  • Crowd-developed content
  • Tight controls

Honey's Cons:

  • Bland gameplay
  • Lacking features
  • Lack of story and personality

Honey's Final Verdict:

We could see certain gamers enjoying this game. However, the majority will find this game coming up short on several core gameplay elements. It’s interesting to see developers trying something new with their releases. But, they should make sure to put out a complete game that fans will enjoy before tacking on a system that promotes new level designers looking to make a name for themselves. As always, thank you for taking the time to read our review. We hope you found this useful. Have a great day and we’ll see you next time.

Umiro - PC Review

Plan your moves carefully

Game Info: (Box Display)

  • System: PC, Android, iOS, Mac
  • Publisher: Devolver Digital
  • Developer: Diceroll Studios
  • Release Date: Mar 28, 2018

Who it Caters to

Are you someone who loves testing your mental muscles? Umiro is a game that does this but with a simple design anyone can learn. Draw out your movements to reach specific points on a map and complete various puzzles while doing so. Plus, Umiro can be played on either the PC or various mobile devices! Like an indie puzzle game with beautiful art and music? Then continue reading to see what we thought of Umiro by developer Diceroll Studios!

What to Expect

Umiro is a simple puzzle game that tests players through timing puzzles and various other challenges. Players will need to draw out their movements via lines with either a mouse or controller and reach crystal like objects to complete each level. While Umiro starts off simple, players will find more difficult puzzles as they begin to have to move not one, but two characters and solve puzzles that require coordinated movements. Umiro also tells of a story that will keep players vying to solve the puzzles and hope to reach the end for the great picture of what is happening in this strange world lacking in color. If you love puzzle games at affordable prices and want them to contain strong music and a whimsical narrative, then you’re going to like what you get in Umiro.
[ad_top2 class="mt40 mb40"]

Story

Young Huey has woken up in a rather peculiar landscape with no memory of how or why he’s there. The only thing that seems to contain fragments of memories for Huey are strange crystals that seem to hold flashes of his past. Huey also discovers another person in this world named Satura who—like him—has no memories. The two will need to work together to see if they can find out what transpired to land them in this world. Equally, why their memories seem to point them towards knowing each other in another world…

Gameplay

Publisher Devolver Digital is no stranger for finding beautiful indie titles and helping them get noticed. One of those said titles is a simple puzzle game called Umiro that was released in March 2018 for the PC, Android, Mac and iOS. Why is Umiro such a great puzzle game and how does it differ from the million other games like it on the marketplace? Glad you asked us here at Honey’s Anime. We plan on answering that question in our review of Umiro for the PC! When we said earlier Umiro is a simple game, we weren’t kidding about that statement. Players take control of Huey initially—a second character is added several levels in called Satura—as they draw lines to reach crystal like objects on a map. Seems overly simple, doesn’t it? The beauty of that simplicity is how developer Diceroll Studios decided to challenge the players to learn careful planning and timing. You see folks, Umiro might just be about drawing lines to reach points, but the paths ahead of you are filled with various obstacles that will hinder your progress from being too simple. In the beginning, Umiro only throws a few obstacles in front of you like moving black orbs that will kill you if you touch them. As Umiro continues into its 40 levels, more obstacles such as gas, switches, one-way doors and so on will be added to make your work a bit more difficult. Players will need to draw their lines and sometimes calculate how much time should be noted to avoid an orb floating into them or one of the two protagonists hitting a button ill timed, which will stop your progress in some way. Umiro never pushes players to get overly aggravated with plenty of options to redo moves, quick loads that avoid having to wait too long upon death and the ability to restart a map if you lock yourself in a bad loop…which trust us can happen. Players only need to reach all the red and blue crystals per level to move onto the next but getting the yellow ones equals a full level completion. If you’re striving to get 100% of the achievements, you’re going to have to do some work while playing Umiro. In terms of graphics and music, Umiro is actually simple but equally very eloquent. The gameplay sections are colorful with simple stick-like figures representing the characters, but the cutscene art—which there are several of—are beautiful pieces of still art. The music in Umiro is also quite nice with tons of tracks to listen to. Never once did we lower the game volume of Umiro as it never got annoying or tedious to hear like some puzzle games are plagued with. Overall, Umiro isn’t the sharpest or most mind blowing game in terms of art, but it does some impressive feats nonetheless.
[ad_middle class="mt40 mb40"]

Honey's Gameplay Consensus:

Umiro is a simple game but with a true penance for really working out those brain muscles while you play. As you get further into Umiro, the challenges only ever increase and for those who wish to 100% this title, you’re going to face off against some truly tough trials that are fair but still difficult. Umiro’s biggest appeal—outside the obvious puzzle element—is learning more about these two children and why they are trapped in this world which makes you want to keep pushing through to get a glimpse of the ending. There were times we did get frustrated at some of the later puzzles which truly were tough but even then, Umiro gave us that feeling of satisfaction once we beat a puzzle that made us retry a dozen or so times. Honestly, for the price of only $2.99, Umiro offers a lot and could easily pass as a more expensive indie game. Hats off to Diceroll Studios, Umiro is a game we honestly loved and felt well worth the price of admission.

Honey's Pros:

  • Simple but colorful art with impressive story art stills
  • Beautiful melodies that change quite frequently for levels
  • Extremely low price of only $2.99
  • 40 levels that will challenge you all the way through
  • Simple gameplay design that makes said challenge rewarding and not too hard to master

Honey's Cons:

  • Some puzzles can be a bit annoying

Honey's Final Verdict:

Honestly folks, there isn’t much of a reason not to download Umiro to either your PC or mobile device. Umiro is fun, simple and also very challenging for those who love to be completionists. That being said, Umiro also has a nice story presented with beautiful art and truly riveting music from chapter 1 all the way to chapter 4. Story Synopsis

A newly built facility in Tokyo Bay called "Edge of Ocean" will be the site of the Tokyo Summit. On May 1st, the summit was held with 22,000 police officers on site premises, but a massive explosion hits this enormous facility! The incident bears the hallmarks of Toru Amuro, a member of the Security Bureau of the National Police Agency, the agency in charge of Public Safety Police across the country, as ‘Zero’. Conan can't help but be suspicious of a previous bombing incident and Amuro’s mysterious secretive behavior. At this point, fingerprints are found on evidence at the crime scene that match those of Ran’s father, Kogoro Mori! Could this be some kind of conspiracy? Conan and Amuro begin to clash over the arrest of Kogoro. Is Toru Amuro a friend or foe?
