[ad_top2 class="mt40"]

Food

The first and foremost important thing about food/cooking anime is the food—if you couldn’t guess. While some may assume that food is just a necessity to keep you from dying (well, it is, technically), there is so much more to food than mere survival. In today’s world, especially in second and first world countries, where people are able to attain food more easily, food is a means of meeting new people and catching up with old friends. It is something that people actually enjoy and people may partake in eating as more of a hobby than for just mere survival (oh the life of the priviliged). People will meet together just to enjoy a good meal or try something new, regardless of hunger status. At this stage in our world, food tends to be more of a social activity than just a necessity. People get together and break bread. This is shown in quite a few anime, as well, so let’s just show you exactly what we’re talking about.

Isekai Shokudo (Restaurant From Another World)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="CDJapan" url="http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/ebooks/d/BTW10000000378393?s_ssid=e35dd45af86502c6c7" ]
[Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" Jul, 2017-Sept, 2017 "]

Somewhere in the business district in Japan, there is a restaurant with a cat sign called Youshoku no Nekoya. This restaurant has been around for nearly 5 decades and caters to mostly the salarymen and officeworkers nearby. On the same day every week, the restaurant stays closed in Japan and becomes a restaurant only accessible by those in other dimensions. All types of creatures and beings dine at Youshoku no Nekoya, they just have to find their door on just the right day. Isekai Shokudo is one of the best anime to show that food helps connect people and that people just plain enjoy food. at Youshoku no Nekoya, beings from all across the dimensions are joined together to eat at the same restaurant. They all plan their weeks around it so that they can enjoy the good food. They don’t just eat at Isekai Shokudo for survival, which they could easily do by eating in their own worlds, some of these beings go to Isekai Shokudo to eat amazing and foreign dishes that they sometimes take home to prolong the enjoyment. Likewise, some beings will use the restaurant in order to spend time with someone else from another world. Love or friendships can be built so easily over breaking bread together, even when people may not come from the same world, and this is shown in several episodes of Isekai Shokudo. Yet, if that’s not enough to prove our point, keep reading!

Because after you read such a great mixture of science fiction, philosophy, and an human feelings, what can you read afterwards? Well, here we have a list of six titles that make a great follow up to Pluto, as they touch similar subjects and will also break your heart in all the right ways.

Similar Manga to Pluto

1. Houkago no Charisma (Afterschool Charisma)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="NEOBK-69964" text="" url="" ]
[en][information_general item1 = "Authors" content1="Suekane, Kumiko" item2="Genres" content2="Mystery, School, Sci-Fi, Seinen" item3 = "Volumes" content3="12" item4="Published" content4="2008 - 2014 " ][/en]

Shirou Kamiya is lucky he gets to attend St. Kleio, one of the most exclusive private schools in the country. In fact, the school is so exclusive that the only students allowed are actually clones of really famous people who are being groomed and prepared to continue their original’s work. Shiro, as the son of the school’s director, is the only non-clone student, which makes him both the target of some bullying from the likes of Mozart –who thinks all clones are superior because they have genius DNA-, and incites curiosity in others such as Sigmund Freud, Napoleon Bonaparte, Elizabeth the First, Florence Nightingale, and Marie Curie. It’s that friendship that makes him help Marie Curie to transfer out of the school to study music, but as he’s realizing he misses his friend, he and the other clones watch in horror as the clone of John F. Kennedy, one of the school’s first graduates, is killed on live tv, just as he is giving a rousing speech. Houkago no Charisma is a very intriguing manga that pretty much dares to ask many questions about the differences between nurture and nature, and what it means to be human. Some of the clones are really afraid that they are only there to have the same fate as their originals, and some others at first seem to be completely different from their predecessor –such as, for instance, Hitler’s clone, who is probably the nicest towards Shiro; or Napoleon, who, among other things, is the tallest in the group. But there are many dark secrets in St. Kleio, and the main question here is if society will ever see clones as something more than mere copies of the original, and objects to be possessed.

2. Billy Bat

[sourceLink asin="2811606335" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]

As World War II ended, Kevin Yamagata, a young Japanese-American comic book writer is starting to have some success in New York with a comic about a bat detective. However, when two detectives need to use his study to investigate a neighbor, one of them recognizes “Billy” as a manga he read back in Japan. Unable to live with himself if he plagiarized someone else, Kevin travels back to Japan in order to find the author of the Bat manga, and unknowingly ends up mixed up with an ancient conspiracy to control the world. Soon, he starts seeing the Bat that foretells a lot of tragedies, as he finds a mangaka who also used to see the Bat, and who asks only one question: “The bat you see, is it black or white?” Billy Bat is one of Naoki Urasawa’s most complex and ambitious stories, as it deals with a plot that starts with the beginning of mankind and teases that, if those touched by the bat don’t do the right thing, humanity will end. Because of the premise that art does affect real life, the story also features a lot of historical events, like the JFK assassination and 9/11, tying them to the greater arc of the mystery of the Bats and the possible multiverse. If you loved Pluto for the mystery behind who was killing the robots and for what reason, Billy Bat will be precisely what you want to read next.

3. 20th Century Boys

[sourceLink asin="1421535386" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]

When he was a little kid, Kenji Endo had an amazing group of friends. They would play together in a field not far from their houses, a make-believe story in which they were the heroes saving the world from aliens and the frog empire. As the years passed and they all grew apart, Kenji forgot that game, as well as his dreams of becoming a big rockstar, to end up working in his family’s corner store. But after one of his old friends jumps to his death, Kenji gets a letter from the dead man asking him if he remembers their old game and their friendship symbol, because someone else does, and is using it to create a dangerous cult that has just one goal: the utter destruction of mankind. 20th Century Boys is one of Naoki Urasawa’s best-known works. Same as Billy Bat, it occurs in different eras, and Urasawa masterfully jumps from 1958 to 1999, and to the future, giving us glimpses of what the choices the character makes will mean to the story before fully showing us what is going to happen. Just like Pluto, it shows a large cast of characters, some of which only become important in the latter chapters, and at times it takes a long time following some secondary characters in their own stories, so that no one is left out of the spotlight. If you enjoyed Pluto, 20th Century Boys is definitely a must-read on your list.

4. Doumu (Domu: A Child’s Dream)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="4575930326" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]

Life in an apartment complex can be somewhat complicated. With many different families living in the same place, conflicts can’t be avoided. But when there have been 32 suicides in just two years, the police have no choice but to investigate. There are rumors that the building is cursed, but neither Yamagawa nor his younger partner Tamura want to give credence to those rumors. Still, the door to the roof where the victims have jumped from is rusted shut so, how could any of the jumpers reach that spot? Inspector Yamagawa seems to have the answer, but before he can share his suspicions, he too jumps to his death, leaving Tamura as the sole investigator of a frustrating case with no clear answer. Doumu is, at times, called a sort of prequel to Akira. It is not only done by the same author, Katsuhiro Otomo, but also deals with a lot of the same subjects: the clash between generations, how old people are very similar to children once senility sets in, and how isolation, coupled with overpopulation, can cause serious problems. Same as Pluto, it starts with a murder mystery, and thus, if that was what you loved from the Urasawa story, you are going to adore this Otomo short manga. Of course, both series have breathtaking art, which practically seems to move on the page.

5. Seiheikyuu EX (The Flat Earth/Exchange)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="4757707274" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[en][information_general item1 = "Authors" content1="Nigoshi, Toshimi" item2="Genres" content2="Sci-Fi" item3 = "Volumes" content3="4" item4="Published" content4="1992" ][/en]

One of the problems that society faces once humans and androids start coexisting is that humans stop reproducing, and thus, human population starts to decline. Unfortunately for Kotaro Shiga, a High school student, one of the solutions to preserve mankind includes putting him and some others in suspended animation for a hundred years, just to make sure we still have human DNA in the future. Even worse for him; once he wakes up, he finds out that now androids rule the Earth and are somehow convinced that they created humans, not the other way around. So now it falls to him, an exiled human prince, and the rest of the “sleepers” to restore mankind’s place in history and rebuild society. One of the most interesting points of Seiheikyuu EX is that androids are shown to have limited memory: it only goes 22 years in the past. What happened before that time, and why the androids can only remember up until then is one of the mysteries of the story, and it reminds us a bit of a small plot point in Pluto, regarding how androids could, and sometimes did, modify their memories to delete some painful moments. Both stories also deal with the problem that is the cohabitation of androids and humans, especially when androids don’t look different from humans. All in all, Seiheikyuu EX is a very good sample of 1990s fiction.

6. Tetsuwan Atom (Astroboy)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B00JPXEBM6" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[en][information_general item1 = "Authors" content1="Tezuka, Osamu" item2="Genres" content2="Adventure, Mecha, Sci-Fi, Shounen" item3 = "Volumes" content3="21" item4="Published" content4="1951 - 1968" ][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Mangaka" content1="___content1___" item2="Género" content2="___content2___" item3 = "Volúmenes" content3="___content3___" item4="Publicado" content4="___content4___" post_id="" ][/es]

When Dr. Tenma’s son died, he went mad with grief. Trying to get over this loss, he built a small robot, Tobio, to be the replacement of his son. But when Tobio shows that he is not a perfect copy, Dr. Tenma decides to scrap him, forgetting all about the robot. However, as it’s 2003 and Japan has a huge robot population, Professor Ochanomizu, an associate of Dr. Tenma who happens to fight for civil robot rights, rescues Tobio from the scrapheap, renames him Astro, and tasks him to help defend Japan and the world. Tetsuwan Atom, known around the world as Astroboy, is one of Japan’s most popular and important manga. However, a lot of people outside Japan haven’t read it, and instead know it by the anime adaptation. The manga shows an amazing optimism towards the future, and still considers that there would be people who’d try to take advantage of their technology for their own goals. Astroboy also doesn’t ignore that discrimination is not easily destroyed because people, unfortunately, will always find reasons to fear those who are different. It’s a wonderful manga that has aged very well, and that you should read if you have the chance.

Final Thoughts

There’s a saying about how everyone is a hero in their own story. And Pluto exemplifies this very well, showing us an alternate take on a story that had been told 40 years earlier, by simply following a different character. The rest of the stories in this list also take that saying to heart, as well as trying to show different answers to the question of what makes a human being, and how different the problems of a society where humans and artificial life forms cohabitate can be. And we’d love to know what you think about the stories in this list and their answers to those questions. Also, did we miss any story similar to Pluto that you love? Or maybe you disagree with one of our choices? Please, let us know in the comments below.

First coming out in 2003, H3 School was the latest manga by Rie Takada. Combining come of the best elements from her previous works, H3 School was a creative story that had everything seen in the average shoujo manga, but managed to be unique in its own way. With so many great elements in the manga, it may be hard to find a manga that captures you the same way as H3 School did. Today we are going to be looking at 6 manga similar to H3 School. Each manga will feature at least one of the main aspects that make H3 School great and we will cover as many different aspects as possible to cover a wide variety of stories.

Similar Manga to H3 School

1. Rockin’ Heaven

As Sawa Konishi was getting ready to enter high school, she wanted to find a school that had a cute uniform. Finally, she decided that she would look the best in the Heaven’s Wing Academy uniform. After arriving for her first day of school, Sawa learns that up until the previous year, Heaven’s Wing Academy had been an all-boys school. With only one other girl in her class, Sawa has a rough time in class, due to all the boys bullying her, especially the son of the academy's director, Ran Matsuyuki. Some of the bullies decide to throw Sawa's shoes into the school's pool. In the process of trying to get the shoes out the pool, Sawa slips and falls into the pool, but she is saved by none other than her biggest bully, Ran. With Sawa seeing a whole need side to Ran, she begins to develop feelings for him only further complicating her new life in high school. Rockin' Heaven has a very similar setup to H3 School. Both manga start out with the revelation that the main girl will be going to a school that was previously a boys only school. Although the reason for Hanabi joining the all-boys school is much different from the reason Sawa joined Heaven’s Wing Academy, both setups end up having the stories feel very similar at the beginning. This also serves as the reason behind the awkward relationship the main characters have at the start of the manga with both Yasuaki and Ran being rude and standoffish to the girls that are coming to the school. Whether it was the great romance story, comedy, or the quirky characters, everything you liked about H3 School can be found within Rockin' Heaven.

2. Venus wa Kataomoi (Venus in Love)

Suzuna Ashihara has just begun her life as a college student and has started living on her own. After moving into her new apartment, she meets her neighbor Eichi Uozumi, who is also attending her college. At her college entrance ceremony, Suzuna meets up with her friend Hinako Kaji who also happens to be friends with Eichi. After hanging out with Eichi, Suzuna starts to befriend him and she falls in love with Eichi's best friend and love interest, Shinya Fukami. Suzuna continues hanging out with Eichi, Fukami, and Hinako and eventually decides to join their tennis club to grow closer to Fukami. With Suzuna's new college life beginning, she wants to experience everything from joining a club to falling in love, but things are never as simple as they seem. Venus wa Kataomoi starts out similarly to H3 school with its main character entering a new chapter of their life and the reader gets to experience the start of this new life along with them. Suzuna and Hanabi are very similar characters, with both of them being upbeat, outgoing, and are able to get along with anybody. Both Suzuna and Hanabi are entering into new schools and have had very little experience hanging out with boys and are quick to fall in love. As the stories progress, both girls their relationships, turning their instant crushes into true romantic feelings. Although both manga focus heavily on the romantic aspects, Venus wa Kataomoi has a completely different spin to its romance, but with the similarities between the main character and the major focus on comedy, Venus wa Kataomoi gives off many of the same vibes as H3 School

3. Akuma de Sourou (The Devil Does Exist)

[sourceLink asin="4086186934" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[en][information_general item1 = "Authors" content1="Takanashi, Mitsuba" item2="Genres" content2="Comedy, Drama, Romance, School, Shoujo" item3 = "Volumes" content3="11" item4="Published" content4="Jan 1, 1998 to Dec 2002" ][/en]

Kayano Saitou has been enjoying her high school life, but things take a turn for the worse after she accidentally confesses to the wrong person. After she had worked up her courage to confess to her long time crush Yuuichi Kamijou, Kayano wrote a love letter for him, but in the process of giving it to him, she bumped into a different guy. The guy she gave the letter to was Takeru Edogawa, the son of the schools principal and the school’s resident ladies man. Embarrassed by the mistake, Kayano asks for the letter back, but Takeru blackmails her with the letter and forces her to be his gopher. After a few days of doing whatever Takeru wanted, Kayano decides she has had enough and will just confess to Yuuichi so Takeru couldn't use the letter to blackmail her, but things are made even more complicated when she learns her mother has just gotten engaged to Takeru's father. Before she can confess, her love letter is posted for the whole school to see and she initially blames Takeru only to find out that it was her jealous underclassmen. Now Kayano's life has been turned upside down with her soon to be bully brother and her crush both starting to show affection to her. In terms of romance manga, Akuma de Sourou takes a different approach than many of the manga on the list. Although its romance is similar in terms of being the focus of the manga, it goes where H3 School doesn't by incorporating forbidden love and a love triangle. Despite the different styles of romances in the two manga, Akuma de Sourou still has many similarities to H3 School. Both manga have distinct art styles that set them apart from other shoujo manga, and both Kayano and Hanabi are strong female leads that can at times be flustered and act out of character when their love interests pressure them. Both manga also have their romantic relationships build up organically, with the characters at first being at odds with each other, but they build up their relationship throughout the manga.

At the age of 5, Meru Tachibana was taken into a remote area to train with her father. Now, Meru is 12-years-old and has returned home after her father figured out she was a girl. As she prepared to enter junior high, her mother tried to get her to act and look more like a girl. On her first day, Meru encounters a group of students led by Ichiya Ayuzawa, that make it their duty to harass the student council president and do whatever they want at school. During the entrance ceremony, the standing vice president of the student council steps down due to their bullying. After Ichiya's group targets Meru's first friend, Chiyo Yuuki, Meru decides she will stand up to the group by becoming the student council president. Now, Meru must find a way to stand up for her fellow students without blowing her cover as an average middle school girl. Fly-High is unlike any manga in the way it is similar to H3 School on this list. Due to its relatively short length, Fly-High doesn't have a lot of time to develop its romantic relationship like H3 School does. The manga focuses more on Meru and her struggles as student council president. Hanabi and Meru share many character traits with both of them being tomboys and being natural leaders with the ability to connect with anyone. Both Hanabi and Meru also join the student council to correct the injustices done to certain groups within their schools. If you're looking for a manga that matches the more comedic and school-life sections of H3 School, Flying-High will give you everything you're looking for and more.

5. Wild Act

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="4091375618" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[en][information_general item1 = "Authors" content1="Takada, Rie" item2="Genres" content2="Adventure, Comedy, Romance, Shoujo" item3 = "Volumes" content3="10" item4="Published" content4="1998 to 2000" ][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Mangaka" content1="___content1___" item2="Género" content2="___content2___" item3 = "Volúmenes" content3="___content3___" item4="Publicado" content4="___content4___" post_id="" ][/es]

15-year-old Yuiko Sakuraba has been a fan of the late actor Akira Nanae for many years. When a new actor gets an award meant for Nanae, Yukio decides she is going to steal the award out from under his nose. Yukio has spent her free time training to become a thief and when the day finally arrives for her to steal the award, things didn't go as planned. Yuiko gets caught in the act not once but twice, and during her second time getting caught, she injured her leg. Ryu Eba takes a liking to Yukio and tends to her injury. After hearing Yukio out, Ryu agrees to let Yukio have the award if she can steal it from him again. Now, Yukio must find a way to steal the award while also dealing with her amnesiac mother and her budding feelings for Ryu. The similarities between Wild Act and H3 School are plentiful and stretch from the story to its character designs. Both stories have unique takes on the romance aspects of their stories and incorporate some more serious plot points involving the families of the main characters. The romances in both mangas are creative and there are many twists in the backstories for the Ran and Ryu that go deeper than most romance manga go. Wild Act shares the same mangaka with H3 School giving both manga similar feelings aesthetically. This is also the leading cause for the likeness in both personality and appearance in Hanabi and Yuniko. Wild Act is the perfect manga that captures the same mix of romance and drama that is seen in H3 School.

6. Doubt!!

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="NEOBK-8431" text="" url="" ]
[en][information_general item1 = "Authors" content1="Izumi, Kaneyoshi" item2="Genres" content2="Drama, Romance, School, Shoujo" item3 = "Volumes" content3="6" item4="Published" content4="Aug 24, 2000 to 2002" ][/en]

Throughout middle school, Ai Maekawa was a plain girl who only focused on her studies. As she prepared for high school, Ai decided to reinvent herself and become popular during her high school debut. Ai improved her looks through various methods and upon arriving for her first day of high school, her efforts were instantly rewarded with all the guys being instantly attracted to her, including the most handsome boy in the school So Ichinose. Even though Ai has achieved her dream of being popular, she finds it's not everything she thought it would be, with jealous girls and boys fighting over her. Despite the inconveniences, Ai continues on her quest to find love and make as many friends as possible. While every other manga on this list includes romantic elements, Doubt!! comes closest to H3 School with its romance. Ai and Hanabi don't share many personality traits, but the way they approach their romance is very similar. Both girls have only dreamt of being in a relationship and have little experience interacting with boys, and once they finally achieve their goals of getting into a relationship, they don't know how to act. As Ai and Hanabi continue in their relationships, they start to grow more confident in their relationships and the way they approach both their personal and romantic relationships. Both manga also include humor and dramatic situations that are more risque than any other manga on the list.

5 Kemonomimi Hentai Girls That Aren't Cat Girls

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="DMM" url="http://www.dmm.co.jp/digital/anime/-/detail/=/cid=h_862dwpa00110/?i3_ref=search&i3_ord=2" ]

When you think of kemonomimi (animal-ear) girls, it's usually cat girls or nekomimi you can picture immediately. The sexy, playful catgirl has made her appearance in many anime like Kuri from Anejiru the Animation or as a costume worn by girls like Hana from Baka no Imouto. However, there is a world of other girls with animal ears that are hard to find or almost nonexistent, so enjoy this list of 5 kemonomimi girls that aren't catgirls that are also getting screwed!

Cowgirl from Waisetsu Missile

Cowgirl isn't given a name, nor can she talk, which really hammers in the fact that she's a 'cow-girl' and not just a girl wearing a costume. She has cow ears, a cow tail, and even a cowbell that rings as the protagonist pounds into her! She's super cute with long pink hair and as you probably already guessed it, she produces milk. She was bought in order to produce milk but her cute appearance and begging for sex gave the protagonist different ideas on how to use her. Definitely a kemonomimi girl for fans of huge boobs, lower intelligence, and lactation.

Lighteus from Tensei Kendo no Harem Colosseum

Lighteus is a very accomplished and impressive animal-eared girl even without the ears. She is a badger girl and leader of the badger tribe; she also serves the princess presiding over the Colosseum. Her size, ears, and tail are indicative of her badger traits. She's smart and empathetic and enjoys sex just because it feels good and she never slacks in her duties. For fans of mature yet loli girls and also badgers, she's great to wank to.

Goku from Secret Journey

Goku being smarter than many other animal girls isn't surprising as monkeys are known for their intelligence. However, she has a very animalistic nature with her love of fighting and screwing. Her ears are short and pointed and she has a rounded face with sharp teeth indicative of some monkeys, though she does not have a tail. She's not just any monkey though; she's based on the Monkey King of Chinese legend! If you like older women with big boobs and a big attitude, you'll definitely like Goku! And as a bonus, there's also a cowgirl in the show!

Nanashi from 15 Bishoujo Hyouryuuki

While it's not explicitly stated that Nanashi is a wolf girl or god, comparing her ears and tail to other known wolf gods like Holo and known dog girls gives pretty solid evidence. Her standoffish nature is also unlike the stereotypical loyal and eager to please nature of dog girls. She is a god and refers to herself as such, demanding respect and worship from the humans around her. She may like the other girls on her island but she never lets them forget she is their 'leader' and that there is a huge divide between humans and gods. Her long, bushy tail is incredibly sensitive and is enough to bring her to orgasm. She's very cute and childlike and always trying to assert dominance over others, like a young wolf pup trying to move up in the pack.

Ginko from Koi Maguwai

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B0177V1MM4" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]

Ginko is not only a fox girl but an ayakashi, something like a demon spirit. She has a human form she uses to hide this and works as a prostitute to suck life essence out of strangers. Like the foxes in Japanese mythology, she has the power to transform and her charm and beauty make men easy targets. She is cunning and playful, yet very sweet toward the one she loves. She has a very long tail, ears that stand straight up, and tiny fangs. Ginko seems more human than animal but her happy, wagging tail doesn't let you forget her true identity.

Kemonomimi girls are so fun and great for the traits they represent and their aesthetic appeal. Diversity is the spice of life and the more types we can enjoy, the better. Whether you love cows or foxes, pets or wild animals, these cute girls with their cute ears are both lovable and bangable!

Springing forth from 2018’s Spring Season, Golden Kamuy is an awesome adventure based in a historical landscape; a series which quite notably features a depiction of the Japanese archipelago’s original inhabitants: the Ainu. The exciting adventure Sugimoto goes on with his companion Ashirpa is the kind that makes you crave something just as exciting. However, Golden Kamuy is still fairly sobering with its inclusion of difficult themes such as tribalism. Anything ring a bell? It does for us – so hang tight as we dish out 6 anime like Golden Kamuy!

1. Katanagatari

Set in Edo Japan, Yasuri Shichika is a swordsman who practises a unique “swordless” style which uses the user’s very body as the blade. He is the Seventh Head of the Kyotouryuu school, living quietly with his sister Nanami. Then Togame, the strategist, sent by the Shogunate to retrieve twelve unique swords called the “Deviant Blades”, asks Shichika to help her in her mission. He accepts, interested by Togame herself, and sets out on a dangerous adventure where they will encounter formidable swordsmen and elites who seek the power of the blades themselves. The main similarity between Golden Kamuy and Katanagatari is their fixation on the adventures the protagonists dive into. Both anime feature a female-male protagonist pairing which is established specifically so that their objective can be pursued and eventually achieved. Both series are set in historical settings, the Russo-Japanese War of 1905 for Golden Kamuy, Edo Japan for Katanagatari allow for interesting political nuances in both series. Yes, nuances.

Manji is a swordsman cursed with eternal life. Tired of all the death he brought with his own hands but caught with the dilemma of knowing only how to kill, Manji forms a plan to regain his mortality: he will kill 100 evil men for each good man he has killed in the past. The witch who cursed Manji with his immortality agrees with his idea and thus, Manji sets out to slay 1000 evil men. He meets a young girl named Rin who has vengeance to seek against a sword school whose members killed her family. Together with Rin, Manji travels under constant attack, trying to live their lives without being consumed by the revenge that fuels them. At first glance, the main similarities between Blade of the Immortal and Golden Kamuy lies in the main characters: Sugimoto and Ashirpa’s pairing from Golden Kamuy is seen reflected in the pairing of Rin and Manji. Both stories are set in a historical period of Japan, with Golden Kamuy catching the Russo-Japanese War and Blade of the Immortal descending upon Edo Japan.

3. Samurai Champloo

Kasumi Fuu is a young waitress who spends her time working at a small teahouse, until her clumsiness causes her to spill a drink all over a customer. The resulting commotion results in the outbreak of a sword fight in the small tea shop – the contestants being the wild Mugen and the ronin, Jin. Their fight results in the destruction of the shop and the death of the magistrate’s son. They are soon arrested and sentenced to death, but they’re rescued by Fuu who decides to hire them as her bodyguards as she embarks on a quest to find a samurai who smells of sunflowers. Initially disapproving of the idea, Mugen and Jin eventually agree to assist Fuu on her quest – all while reminding her that their fight never really ended. Samurai Champloo is a textbook adventure story, featuring a trio of characters all of whom found each other by chance, much like Sugimoto’s meeting with Ashirpa in Golden Kamuy. Both anime have historical settings and explore various elements of the characters’ lives through historical representation for context. Another similarity is the high number of battle-ready characters in both series – Golden Kamuy is filled with characters with military experience, while Samurai Champloo offers us its share in samurai.

Tughril Mahmut is a young pasha, a high-ranking officer serving on the Divan of the Turkiye Stratocracy, in a situation where war looms on the horizon due to the threat of a neighbouring empire. The country’s high-ranking officials split are between those who wish to wage war and those who wish to remain pacifists. Working hard to keep the peace, Mahmut will do whatever it takes; however, the further in he finds himself, the blurrier the lines separating friend from foe become. Based on the real-life Ottoman Empire of the 13th century, the Turkiye Stratocracy of Shoukoku no Altair is the use of historical setting in order to define characters in relation to this point in history, much like Golden Kamuy’s use of the Russo-Japanese War. Shoukoku no Altair also shares Golden Kamuy’s taste for use of foreign words in order to add more markers of historical context, with Turkish words thrown into the mix in a manner reminiscent of Golden Kamuy’s use of the Ainu language.

The Taboo Emperor, Arthur Gaz, ruled the Gaz Empire with an iron fist for well over 500 years, conducting terrible experiments on his own citizens. However, five years ago, his tyrannical rule was brought to a close when the “Eight Heroes”, a set of mighty warriors, defeated Gaz in battle. Present day. Toru Acura is a former war saboteur who can’t quite get used to life after Gaz and struggles to find work that can put his combat skills to good use, at least until opportunity presents itself. A white-haired wizard named Chaika Trabant, sporting a coffin on her back, claims to be searching for the scattered remains of her father in order to give them a proper burial and hires Toru and his adoptive sister, Akari, to assist her. However, they soon realise that Chaika is none other than the daughter of the tyrannical Emperor Gaz himself! Hitsugi no Chaika is an adventure anime much like Golden Kamuy, with both featuring the female-male protagonist pairing. While Hitsugi no Chaika is not necessarily based in any historical arena, it is most certainly inspired by various medieval themes, placing it in the same group as Golden Kamuy with historical influences. Both series contain a fair amount of humour in moderation and ramp up the stakes fairly quickly as they delve into their respective plots quickly. Given Chaika’s status as Gaz’s daughter, she, Toru and Akari soon find themselves on the run from the empire – much like the military’s pursuit of Sugimoto and Ashirpa in Golden Kamuy.

Sengoku period, Japan. An orphan named Kotaro and his dog, Tobimaru, steal from other villagers in order to survive; however, Kotaro must now live on the run when he is hunted by assassins of China’s Ming Dynasty for reasons he cannot quite name. When Kotaro is ambushed and Tobimaru poisoned, they are found by a Ronin named Nanashi, who Kotaro soon enlists as his personal bodyguard, at least until Tobimaru is better and they arrive at their destination. The three set out on a dangerous path as the Ming Dynasty remains in hot pursuit of Kotaro. Much like Golden Kamuy, we are presented with a historical setting: the Sengoku era of Japanese history. Stranger also goes further to include the Ming Dynasty in its setting, further fleshing out the film’s universe. This is similar to Golden Kamuy’s depiction of the Ainu people. Another way in which Stranger is similar to Golden Kamuy is in the way in which the protagonists travel together. Kotaro being pursued by assassins is reminiscent of the consistent brushes with death that both Ashirpa and Sugimoto experience while on their travels as a result of the knowledge the military has on the prisoner tattoos.

Final Thoughts

Historical fictions are works with infinite potential to become interesting, surprisingly from the fact that we actually know what happens in real life. Seeing the parallels between fact and the imagination of an author to place characters in such an environment allows for exploration of elements and perspectives not quite covered by mainstream focus in our history textbooks and encyclopedias. This is great to see, a prompt which allows for the creation of incredible characters and plot which fosters curiosity in certain aspects of history, all while giving us anime that truly slaps! Are there any other anime like Golden Kamuy we might have missed? Help us out and drop a comment below – we want more too!

Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time - Launch Trailer | PS4, PC

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r71Op_I8EZg&w=560&h=315]

Who it Caters to

At first glace, many might think that Little Witch Academia is a game that’s jam packed full of action, but it’s actually focused more on its story, and introducing new players to a very popular franchise. While there are moments that truly turn things up a notch in the combat area, Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time is a title that paints a pretty picture that’s humorous and filled with adventure that both fans and newcomers will find enticing. For some reason, while playing, we had this vibe of those classic beat-em-ups like Streets of Rage or the Konami classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time, and it certainly came across that way the more we experimented with the combat system. It’s not a robust system by any means, but it certainly gives players a chance to show off their magical skills to take out well animated enemies, and challenging bosses. It’s pretty much the Little Witch Academia version of your classic beat-em-up but with some added visual touches all thanks to the incredible team over at Studio Trigger. Anyone who loves the series can jump right in and immerse themselves in the exciting story while those looking for something fresh can just take in whatever they can, while learning more about the Little Witch Academia universe.

What to Expect

A lot of the gameplay in Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time revolves heavily around tackling various event quests which then take you to dungeons, where you’ll be able to take on a plethora of enemies along the way. Each dungeon comes with its own unique characteristics but nothing over the top that would throw you off. Much of the game is still simple and doesn’t try to mislead players in any way and so, you don’t really have to worry so much about anything. It’s a lot of running back and forth to gather important information that helps to further the story, while leveling up your witches in order to obtain stronger spells and skills to be optimized in battle. It’s great fan service and delivers highly in that area, but we’ll be honest that it may not necessarily attract everybody which is natural. It’s really a game where those who fancy the franchise can take their favorite witches on an adventure and relive their favorite moments whenever they desire. The story is fairly straightforward and doesn’t trail off in any way which makes it easy to follow even if you’re unfamiliar with things, but all the monotonous moments of running around can be a little taxing at times. Be that as it may, if you truly love Little Witch Academia, could care less about how the game performs, and just want that genuine anime experience, then you’ll find the game to be enlightening.
[ad_top2 class="mt40 mb40"]

Gameplay

So much of the story takes place in Luna Nova Academy where Akko and her friends work together to unravel the mysteries behind the Seven Wonders, while coming to solve the shift in time that’s been taking place recently. A lot of the early portion of the game has you repeating the same steps numerous times and having to read the same lines over again, which came off as little dry. Of course, we can see the reason for that since time shifting plays a major role in the advancement of the game, but over time, it kind of felt repetitive after a while. A lot of the game has you exploring the whole Academy looking for clues to help solve the mystery behind the Seven Wonders, and you get a glimpse of just how well detailed the game actually is. All of the character animations are pristine and look like they’ve been extracted from the anime itself, while the voice acting stays true to the actual show using the same seiyuu to provide an authentic experience. That’s certainly one of the major perks of Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time and it’s that it maintains its integrity all the way through, while still giving players something new to experience regarding its action based moments.
The very simplistic RPG mechanics are a nice touch as it doesn’t overwhelm you with all sorts of unnecessary tools that most other anime RPGs tend to do, and so your time is spent having fun than having to memorize certain mechanics to move forward. It’s all about managing your spells, using your potions when necessary to utilize certain skills, and ensuring that you use attacks wisely to avoid dying. We will admit though that while playing, the AI felt a little too easy and they oftentime didn’t respond as quickly as we imagined. For example, during dungeon runs, you’d run into a group of enemies, but not all of them would try attacking you. Some would simply just stand in their designated area and will only do something if you’re close to them, which kind of felt a little dull. You could also easily avoid hitting enemies by just baiting them to walk into dangerous obstacles and let them take damage. We actually experienced a little bug while taking on a boss where we found ourselves stuck inside its body and simply won by mashing the attack button. We didn’t take any damage since the boss couldn’t hit us so we felt that was a little unfortunate.
Elaborating more on the battle system, you have certain attacks which are assigned to single and multiple buttons. So much like any beat-em-up you have your weak attack, normal attack and strong attack, while combining buttons allows you to do stronger magic based attacks. Combining these all together in battle is useful as it can help you to better space yourself and avoid taking damage. Just like in your classic beat-em-up, you’d need to be parallel to the enemy in order to hit them. What we mean by that is let’s say you’re below the enemy while they’re above you. Your attacks will miss them since you’re not on the same plane as them and so, in order to effectively hit them you’d need to position yourself correctly. Some players may see this as an issue but it’s part of the 2D action experience and so getting used to that may take a little adjusting. It’s by no means a hardcore action title and so don’t expect to be tested in any significant way.
Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time truly feels like a game catered to a specific audience with specific needs and so, a lot of the areas where players may find fault in may actually be of pleasure to the more casual and younger audience. The Little Witch Academia series is typically catered to the more younger demographic since Akko is one who many can relate to, and much of the cast are around the same age. That doesn’t mean older more experienced players can’t enjoy it; it simply means that the game will find its success with those who simply want to have a down to earth, simple and rewarding experience.

Honey's Gameplay Consensus:

We enjoyed Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time because it took a lot of weight off our shoulders in some way. It’s very carefree approach to storytelling and bubbly cast of characters just make you want to become a witch yourself (or mage) and cast spells on enemies. It teaches you the art of friendship and working together to solve life’s problems, even when you don’t really understand it all. Solving mysteries as a team is more rewarding than trying to be the single hero and we found that to be very endearing, since most titles nowadays tend to focus primarily on one character doing all the work. It’s a family friendly type of game that still gives the passionate fans something to be happy about, and is long enough that it doesn’t feel drawn out. The battle system could, of course, use some work and perhaps expanding on the adventure elements would add in some flavor, but we think that the goal of this game wasn’t to over complicate things but more to give you something to enjoy and create a nice fantasy in the mind.

Honey's Pros:

  • Wonderful presentation from the opening intro, to the end game.
  • Great use of authentic voice acting.
  • Animations are beautiful to watch.
  • The story is charming and bubbly.

Honey's Cons:

  • The game can feel a bit slow due to some repetitive sequences.
  • Battle system could use a little more fine tuning.
  • Adding in some more adventure elements would have provided more depth.

Honey's Final Verdict:

We hope that you found this review to be insightful and provides you with the information needed to make a conscious purchase decision. Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time was certainly a fun ordeal but came with its shortcomings that if fine tuned, would’ve made things a little more exciting. Be that as it may, fans will be jumping for joy to play as their favorite cast members and relish in the beautiful animation that Studio Trigger is revered for. Who it Caters to

In the land of Customerania, you are the shopkeeper that provides the necessary items and equipment so that adventurers can see their extraordinary quests to completion. Your meager, single-room shop will need to expand greatly and offer the rarest of items if those explorers are going to hunt down powerful werewolves around town and eventually take on more menacing beasts than you could possibly imagine. Heroes come and go. Some falter and others become legends. But, the one constant is you. The shopkeeper. Shoppe Keep 2 caters to people who enjoy playing simulator games. In particular, it's good for people who like to micromanage efficiently and work your way out towards a macro-managing system. You begin with a single-roomed shop where you can display items such as shoes, masks apples, water, and a couple of other things on pedestals. You'll open your doors for business and potential customers will peruse your stock and look for good products with competitive prices. There is strategy involved in using your time efficiently and avoiding a lot of backtracking. So, this game is recommended for people who enjoy investing their team in endeavors that start out small but have rewarding payoffs.

What to Expect

You will manage a small shop that will grow in size and inventory (if managed well). You have to find a balance between the profit you receive from selling items, the taxes you pay on different categories of items, and money you want to re-invest into more stock. There's a multiplayer function as well. You can play with friends, up to three other people, to expand your inventory, go on quests through the woods to fight animals and collect valuable goods, and to stop customers from stealing your products! Working together makes the shop much more manageable and allows you to explore the area outside of your village much more efficiently.
Don't expect there to be an in-depth combat system. Fighting in this game is as simple as clicking to attack and then backing up to avoid the enemies follow up. Keep doing this and you'll avoid taking any damage. You just need to make sure you have a sufficient amount of armor and that your weapon deals good damage. Otherwise, it'll feel like you're fighting with a twig while wearing a pillow cover and it'll take forever! Any armor or weapons that you equip will become visible on your character's body. So, you can choose to make yourself look stylish, or you can go for function. We personally prefer to look cleaned up and dapper when we're selling the finest goods to our patrons. At first, you can only order a few different items. Every item has a set cost for ordering or creating it. However, you have the ability to set whatever price you want to sell it to your customers for. You can greatly overcharge and earn more per sale, or charge less and create a steady stream of customers who come for your low prices. Soon, you'll be able to purchase material that you can sell on its own or use to construct even better items. From there, you'll open up access to other artisans in your town, such as a chef, blacksmith, alchemist, etc. They'll each give you quests that reward you with better products that you can then stock in your ever-expanding shop. The whole game has a ripple effect that keeps you busy and never becomes boring.

[ad_top2 class="mt40 mb40"]

Story

The story of Shoppe Keep 2 is simple and straightforward. You live in a land and time where adventurers are constantly going on dangerous quests, rescuing villagers, and slaying legendary beasts. In times such as these, there needs to be a place where travelers can turn to for perishable food, clothing, weapons, and a plethora of other necessities. That's where you come in. You own a shop that starts off small and niche. But, it has the potential to grow into the most prestigious menagerie of valuable goods. That same potential lies within you, too. You can be a dependable shopkeeper that the villagers respect. Or you can be something even greater. It's up to you. Shoppe Keeper 2 places you within a land where anything is possible. But, you aren't necessarily the hero of the story. You're shown this world from the point of view of a would-be merchant. It's a clever concept and one that could have a great pay off if executed well. There are other characters in the game that you can speak to and interact with. They serve to fill you in on the current affairs of the world and give you some insight into the history of Customerania. More than that, they will offer their services to you and give you quests that reward you money or the ability to order new items for your shop. Village guards, blacksmiths, carpenters, alchemists, fishermen, and priests are just a few of the people you'll meet and rely on to keep your business thriving and the village safe from attack.

Gameplay

The character creator is simple enough with some variety. There are about eight different types of hair types, skin colors, faces, eyes... basically all the fundamental staples of character creation that we've come to know and love. It's all there. But it’s weird that they have so many different options for tattoos Or, so we thought. It turns out that you can put tattoos all over your body and that's because you can actually show off your tats when you're not wearing a lot of armor or clothing. (You can show off to your buddies as well if you decide to play the multiplayer mode.) You can be scantily clad and make sure everyone sees the cool tat on your upper back. Maybe some potential shop customers are into that, could be good for business ha-ha. But, we went with tattoos on the arms since those are always visible on-screen. Your arms are also picking up objects or swinging around as you run. So, you can admire the body paint at all times. The tutorial to the game is short and gives you all of the necessary information to get your shop up and running in no time. In the tutorial, we are greeted by Billy. He's an experienced shop owner that explains the basic controls and features of the game. He shows you how to clean your shop, adorn it with furniture, order items, put them on display for the customers, and how to open up your doors for business. The length and conciseness of the tutorial made it stand out to us. It wasn't overbearing or useless. Short, informative, and action-based are how we like our tutorials, and that's exactly what you get in Shoppe Keep 2. The controls for this game are responsive and simple to master. Besides the standard WASD for movement, you'll use the mouse to direct where you're facing, select items and navigate menus, as well as use equable items and weapons. The numbered keys are used to select items for use or to display within your store. Once selected, you'll decide the price you want to put on the item and then label it with your price gun. There's not much to the controls. The only time things become slightly cumbersome is when you start selling high priced items. You'll have to start changing your price gun settings so that it scrolls by 10's, 50's, 100's, etc. Otherwise, your price gun will wind up or down (by using the mouse wheel) by single digits. That's a nuisance if you're selling an item that costs hundreds of gold. Even though you're in charge of your own personal business, you actually have much more reach than a regular business owner. You're basically in charge of an entire town. Your goods are taxed by the local government. But, that money goes into opening up a new business in town that will further suit the needs of your enterprise. The carpenters, blacksmiths, and other NPCs we mentioned earlier are not initially available. You have to earn them through completing quests and raising enough tax money through your sales. That kind of control is much more rewarding than if we were only in charge of a small shop.
Speaking of reach, we were surprised by the size of the playable area in this game. It's still hasn't been fully completed, as of May 18th at least, but the area outside of the village is huge and we didn't expect to be able to traverse so far out from our hometown. Developer Strange Fire could have easily constructed the entire game to fit within the village. But, they had bigger plans for the players. They wanted us to be able to explore forests, caves, ancient ruins, mountains, and many other areas. Exploring areas, that you aren't ready to deal with, is exciting while not being extremely punishing. You can encounter some wild beasts that are just too much for you to handle and they'll maul you to pieces. Your character will revive back in town but at the cost of losing some of your hard-earned currency. That's much better than losing all of the items that you had in your inventory and all of your money as well. The game promotes exploration and reaching past your comfort zone to see what you find out there in the world of Customerania. Efficiency is so important in simulation games. This one is no different. If we could offer you some advice, that would be to not waste a single second. You can order items through the order tab in the game menus. You can do that from anywhere. So, while it does take about twenty seconds for those items to be delivered to the spot right be your shop, you can use that time to sell water to villagers around time. Or you can set up your furniture in the shop while you're waiting for items to come in. This idea works with longer waiting periods. For instance, ordering the chef to cook you up some soup or bake some bread takes time (especially when you order large quantities). You don't have to stay by their side while they work on these orders for you. Go out and explore. Clean your shop. Kill some spiders. Do anything, but make sure you're being productive. You'll gain money much faster, gain skill points in movement and combat while increasing your inventory at the same time. Is it a win-win-win? I dunno, it's a lot of wins. Bottom line: keep moving and don't waste time. The few gripes we have with this game are just quality of life adjustments that could be made within the HUD or in-game menus. First off, you have to remember what items or food you've ordered for yourself. It's easy to forget what things are being worked on for you when you have multiple orders at different locations and you're taking care of guests at the same time. It would be nice if the game had small icons to let you know your items were ready at a particular place. For now, you have to keep it all in your head. Second, it would be nice to change the size of individual menus within the game. Some menus have tiny text that is difficult to read. But, if you increase the size through the settings, it'll blow up the size of icons and other things within your regular HUD. There isn't really a good balance at the moment. Lastly, combat is over-simplified. We know that Shoppe Keep 2 is primarily a shop simulator and all other features are secondary. But, it would be nice if they could revamp the combat system a little bit. Right now it's repetitive and not challenging at all.
[ad_middle class="mt40 mb40"]

Honey's Gameplay Consensus:

Overall, the look and feel of Shoppe Keep 2 are not overly impressive or memorable. But, it really shines in its gameplay, surprising amount of depth, and expansiveness. We could spend hours playing this game and feel like we barely got anything accomplished. That's not a bad thing, at all. You can keep yourself busy with stocking up on products, completing quests around town, chasing customers who try to steal your goods, upgrading your skills, opening up new parts of town, etc. There is so much to do. It's all fun, and yet it feels like there is always something else to do that's just out of reach. You want to come back and play this game every free moment you get. It's addictive and extremely rewarding. We could definitely see this game become a big hit with the right marketing strategy, addition of extra equipable items, tougher quests, and challenges, new additions to town.. there's so much that can be added to the game's final version. The possibilities are honestly exciting and we can't wait to see more people pick this game up and share their experience with friends. We know we'll be doing our best to spread the word as much as possible.

Honey's Pros:

  • Addictive gameplay
  • Intuitive management systems
  • Large exploration area

Honey's Cons:

  • Cumbersome UI
  • Lack of order tracking

Honey's Final Verdict:

Again, it's difficult to convey just how much fun we had with Shoppe Keep 2. It's of the most addictive simulators we've ever played. But, more than that, it has the potential to become even better and reach a wide audience if pivoted correctly on social media platforms. We recommend this game to anybody who enjoys simulator games or gamers who are looking to try out a new indie game. Thanks for taking the time to read our review of Shoppe Keep 2. We hope you try this game out and give us your impressions in the comments below, through tweets, or chatting with us on our discord. Have a great day and we'll see you in the next one.

In this opportunity, Honey-chan and Bee-kun met with Kojima-san (track maker, guitar) and Pon-san (Vocal and lyricist) from the unit ORESAMA. This duo successfully combine elements of J-pop, disco and electro-funk to create an upbeat, fun, and interesting music. You may know them for their opening theme in the anime series Alice to Zouroku, the ending theme in Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji and most recently the opening in Mahoujin Guruguru. Last April 11th, ORESAMA released major 1st album titled “Hi-Fi POPS” containing 12 tracks filled with the catchiest vocal melodies on layers of experimental disco and electronic sounds. Because this album's very original songs and great visuals caught the attention of Bee-kun, he decided he has to meet the people behind this sonic trip. About the Band
[gray-hex-decoration]
honey's anime character
First of all, we would like you to explain the idea behind the name ORESAMA. What does it stand for and how did you come up with the name?

honey's anime character
We are generally not the greatest at speaking in front of the public personally, so when we stood on stage, we wanted to appear grand and magnificent. We came up with the unit name “ORESAMA” by putting that wish into it.

TL NOTE:

“Ore” is a very rough, masculine way of saying “I” in Japanese. Attaching “-sama” to it adds a sense of confidence, be it realistic or false, grandiose, and splendor to it to make the individual seem very outspoken and confident.

honey's anime character
We would like to know more about how ORESAMA’s music and concept were conceived. Can you tell us what motivated you to make music and what influenced your particular sound?

honey's anime character
We took elements from 70’s & 80’s disco music and put it to a tune. Then, we placed that on the pivotal J-pop melody, and aimed to make a form of dance music that only we as ORESAMA can produce. As for our motivation, our motivation comes from the joy of pursuing our own forms of ideal music. We are now in an era where all you need is one computer to make music, and a large component of our motivation is taking elements from various genres and combining them in a continuous process of trial and error. Another big reason is that not only in Japan, but people overseas as well, are posting videos and other things online. There is a strong connection to our motivation in relation to comments and feedback.

honey's anime character
ORESAMA is quite visually appealing. The music videos are very colorful, have a lot of disco style, and use a lot of augmented reality. The artwork of your covers and website show original illustrations and characters full of personality. Who are the people behind ORESAMA’s visual designing and how did you come up with this visual concept?

honey's anime character
When we thought that there had to be a better way to visually communicate ORESAMA’s sound through the jacket designs, music videos, etc., we were actually introduced to the illustrator, Utomaru. We were charmed by her work from the moment we met Utomaru, and ever since the release of our first single, we have used her to make our artwork.

About your upcoming album "Hi-Fi POPS"
[gray-hex-decoration]
honey's anime character
Your major 1st album titled “Hi-Fi POPS” is now available! It was released on April 11, 2018. Can you tell us about the concept of this album? What are the ideas behind its title?

honey's anime character
The goal we are going for with this album, is to create a first, major album that on both the feelings front and the music production front, is a pure, powerful Hi-Fi work. We firmly believe that this work, while being pop music, is not just fun, upbeat, and cute; It’s for fans who want to feel the different aspects to ORESAMA. This is especially true for the people who have become fans of us due to our tie-up work. We put our full selves into this, and it’s almost like it’s a self-introduction work for us.

ORESAMA "Hi-Fi POPS" All tracks Trailer

honey's anime character
What are the different elements you put into this album that makes it different from your first album “oresama” released in 2015? Also, what elements did you keep from your previous work?

honey's anime character
If you compare this album with “oresama”, there isn’t anything that has changed in particular. However, if you take a look at this album from the point that this is about new beginnings, our major debut, and plunging into a new field, there is a metamorphosis of music production and lyrics, and there are also many points about our own growth. Our desire to create good melodies has not changed. It’s just that now we are also focused on delivering something that we feel good about.

honey's anime character
Pon-san, you are in charge on the voices and lyrics. What is the lyric-making process like for you, and what were challenges you faced as a singer for this album?

honey's anime character
I more or less always compose lyrics very late at night. When I am working on an anime tie-up song, I read the source material first. Then, I pick out the parts and feelings that overlap with mine and compose with them. I make sure to pay very close attention to the fact that this song is for the anime itself as well as my song. I am always singing in each and every song about how I want to be a singer who can properly express how I want to be a singer.

honey's anime character
Kojima-san, can you tell us about the writing and recording process for this album? When did you start writing the songs, and what were the challenges you faced making this album?

honey's anime character
I started making music when I was a high school student. At the time, I used a cassette tape recorder and other things to start with very simple recordings. After that, I heard “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk and Nile Rodgers and wanted to make something with a disco sound. Using a PC, I was able to learn how to make basic sounds. For this album, I utilized more techniques than ever before and worked hard to express the newest version of ORESAMA. The album contains songs that everyone has come to expect from ORESAMA, and we also challenged ourselves by adopting new genres as well. Coming from the sound aspect, we mixed together that warm feeling from an analog as well as a digital feeling from a PC to create a new sound while still keeping an overall retro feeling.

About Anime
[gray-hex-decoration]
honey's anime character
ORESAMA has written and performed several successful anime tie-up songs. What is your favorite anime series of all time?

honey's anime character
My absolute favorite work is Rumiko Takahashi’s Urusei Yatsura. I love the original manga as well, but with the addition of the music, I was sucked into a work like never before. I always think about how I want to live in Tomobiki-cho.

honey's anime character
I have so many anime songs like I like that it's difficult to say which is better, but I really enjoy the music that Youko Kanno creates like in Sousei no Aquarion, etc. I used it as reference when I was composing this album.

honey's anime character
What are your upcoming plans after this album is released?

honey's anime character
We are planning on releasing even more music after this album, as well as we are planning to perform in even more events than ever before.

honey's anime character
Please greet and send a message to all your fans around the world who are looking forward to listening more music from you.

honey's anime character
We are always wanting to take our J-Pop overseas and hold a live concert. For now, we are going to continue to transmit our own music and contents from Japan dreaming of the day that we can be together with you, our fans. If you can please wait a little bit longer with anticipation, we would be very grateful. Please continue to support ORESAMA from here on out!

honey's anime character
These guys are the perfect couple to party with. They'd bring the funky music, sexy vocals, the swagger...

honey's anime character
Their 2D-selves are also gorgeous as hell. I wanna go shopping for clothes with them… look at that style!

honey's anime character
Let’s keep our eyes and ears on them! Wherever they go, we should follow. Let their beat be our guide...

............What?

Nagareboshi
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="Crunchyroll" url="http://www.crunchyroll.com/hinamatsuri" ]

Hinamatsuri went really left field this week and got political, and while that is really important since it talked about how homeless people are treated in Japan, this week was really shocking because of how much of a departure from the series it was. Still though, it’s really important to talk about because it hit on so many important things. The episode opens with Niita taking Hina back to his home. Ten thousand lies later, he’s exposed but it’s freaking hilarious. His sister is a drunk and his mother is as abrasive as a cactus. Somehow they make a family and it keeps in line with the theme of how families can be so strange, and yet, so similar at the same time. The meat of the episode is about Anzu though. We get another episode riddled with plot holes featuring Anzu. She’s been living her life as a homeless person and it turns out this week, the city is ejecting the homeless people living in the park rather than helping them get back to becoming productive members of society. While people are protesting, Anzu in her innocence cannot comprehend what is going on. The men manage to run her off and have her be adopted by a family. She has an incredibly heartbreaking scene where she is left in the restaurant and is coming to terms with her new family when she reveals all of the things that the old men taught her. It’s so heartwarming and sweet and is… just such a massive departure from the comedy of the series. Talking about homeless people, which is a growing issue in Japan, and then about a family taking in a orphan is making this anime oddly progressive for a comedy that relies on cheap shots nonstop. I love it.

Healing

Jenangelx3
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="NEOBK-1622065" text="" url="" ]

My hot moment of the week involves Mahou Shoujo Site, a gruesome and dark magical girl anime that just seems to strive for darker and darker with each passing episode, even if my last gripe about it was its inability to decide if it was comedy or horror. This week, I want to discuss the awfulness about Amagai Kousame’s power of healing. Kousame is a self mutilator whose magical girl power allows her to heal others by doing exactly what she has always done, cut herself. Of course, there’s that detail about feeding her blood to the person she wants to heal. Kousame’s magical girl prop is a razor. How appropriate. This completely taps into a different side of the magical girl universe in Mahou Shoujo Site. Originally, your magical powers were supposed to make your life “better,” yet Kousame’s power seems to take advantage of the fact that she harms herself for comfort in order to help others and not really herself. Why is Kousame’s power healing? It must have something to do with her backstory, but it sure as heck does not make things better on her end. I find it a rather gruesome power on top of the other ones. Imagine, being a magical girl already requires the use of your life force in order to use your power, then you have a power that requires you to use your own blood. It just gets more and more morbid as these girls appear to have powers that lead them closer and closer to death.

[balloon_speech align="left" text="Now, I only wonder how far Mahou Shoujo Site will go." image="honey-complain"]

Scream for me, please!

Rod Locksley
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="Crunchyroll" url="http://www.crunchyroll.com/comic-girls" ]

Comic Girls is not the most popular anime this season, but it’s a good story if you like your typical Slice of Life involving a girl trying to find her vocation in a certain area. Obviously, this being about 4 cute mangaka girls, funny and moe moments are all over the place. This time, however, we got to know Suzu Fuura, a new senpai who happens to be a horror mangaka… and chaos ensued for Kaos, our protagonist. The whole first part of the episode was filled with fun gags related to horror tropes, and it’s nice to have something different once in a while. Reina Ueda did an amazing job voicing her! First she comes as a ghostly woman haunting Kaos while she’s taking a bath, and so we have some jokes that set the mood of the episode. After that, the other girls explain she’s not a ghost but a friend of them, who as a horror mangaka loves a cute girl’s screams. The best part starts with a storm, as many famous horror stories. Who would’ve thought such a scary girl would be afraid of being lonely during a thunderstorm? In the end, Fuura-senpai turns out to be as cute and friendly as the other girls, and I’m sure many more funny and scary moments are yet to come!

Humans?

Lizzy Nyanko
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="Crunchyroll" url="http://www.crunchyroll.com/darling-in-the-franxx" ]

In episode 17 of Darling in the Franxx, the children of Team 13 are still abandoned in a broken plantation and taking care of themselves. They’ve managed to do quite well; washing their clothes, getting water from the lake, eating rations, and overall getting along really well. Kokoro jumps Mitsuru while telling him she wants to make a baby, which freaks him the heck out. He’s able to talk to Hiro, who’s been growing horns like Zero Two and spending tons of time in their room with her. Hiro tells Mitsuru about his experience in relationships and tells him that he’s probably in love with Kokoro considering how he feels about her and his confusion. Everyone is chatting in the living room when the Nines show up with Kokoro’s childbirth book that she dropped earlier and Alpha confronts her about it. Kokoro is forced to confess her desire to leave a legacy behind in front of everyone present and Alpha proceeds to berate her and humiliate her by telling her she’s disgusting for wanting to do something that is so animalistic and forbidden. Kokoro argues that there must be a reason why they are male and female and have reproductive organs and argues that humans are like animals and that’s how they are meant to reproduce. Alpha responds that the two genders are only to pilot the Franxx and that it’s a pain, which seems to bother Mitsuru, but before he can say anything, Ikuno steps up angrily and bitch-slaps Alpha, who then says that humans have also evolved past being ruled by emotions because they serve no purpose (not entirely wrong, emotions can get in the way at times), and then Goro pulls Ikuno away because she’s about to bash Alpha’s head in (which would be well deserved, frankly). And then Nana and Hachi show up. Kokoro is taken by them to get reprimanded and they basically continue asking why she wants to do something forbidden and that their genders are only or piloting, and that their team is not special. (Really!?) But Kokoro isn’t taking it and she asks yelling why they still have emotions and why they feel the things that they do. And that’s when Nana cracks. Something happens when she hears those words and she loses control and begins screaming and holding her head. It seems that hit a button… Kokoro is dismissed and Alpha appears around the corner asking the guardians if Nana “reverted to puberty” and commenting that they were supposed to have gotten emotion training when they were first parasites and then leaves. But not before telling them that he’s reporting to “Papa”. The episode goes on but this whole section really brings into view the fact that these kids do have emotions. Not only emotions but strong adolescent ones, which we have not seen from anyone else. We knew their emotions were dulled from previous episodes, but it seems like this team isn’t going through the same. They fall in love, get jealous, succumb to eating disorders, get depressed, offended, etc... This episode was great because, while we’ve been theorizing from the very first episode, we are getting more and more material to try to figure out what exactly is happening! Does that mean team 13 is a team of regular humans? Is that the point? Are they trying to make regular humans? Is the whole “one gender” thing that Alpha mentioned real but was actually a negative evolution that this Papa character is trying to fix? Who is human? Who is a Klaxosaur? Who was created in a lab and who was made the old fashioned way? (if anyone…). This show just keeps getting better!

[balloon_speech align="left" text="ugh, that Alpha is SUCH a jerk!! I’m glad Ikuno slapped him!" image="honey-angry1"]
