Vampire Anime, much like the classic story trope itself, has been around for a very, very long time in the anime world. Gaining big notoriety with Vampire Hunter D (1985 ver.), the genre picked up speed before peaking in the 2000s. That is not to say that their journey is over, but rather, that it has cooled off in recent years. When you think about it, what comes to mind when you hear vampires? Stakes? Pointy Teeth? Garlic? Bats? An old abandoned castle? The ideas go on and on, but the concept is the same of a monster with pointy teeth that hunts on humans. Where does that come from though? If you are new to anime or the genre in general, welcome! We here are going to dive into the vampire genre while recommending anime that are quintessential to this genre.

[ad_top2 class="mt40"]

Hyper-violent and Gory

If you came here to think this was some sort of supernatural tea party where everyone just happens to have fangs… you are gonna have a bad time. Vampire stories, whether they be from anime or fiction novels, always have a concept of violence, preying on others, and of course, darkness. The story builds upon itself until it is necessary to confront the final evil in the end. However, this is not always the case as you would want it to be, as in a lot of anime, the vampire is the main character! Tasked usually with doing the bidding of a human or other supernatural being, they use their powers, which are usually beyond the power of a regular vampire, and strike swiftly and powerfully to decimate those that rise against them. Not to mention too, what we would normally consider a “good guy” in a vampire story, are usually deranged individuals who make everything more difficult all while screeching or chanting bible verses. The following two anime are that. So if you love blood, gore, guts, and violence, be absolutely sure to catch the following two series.

Hellsing Ultimate

[sourceLink asin="B00T03XYRO" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 10 " aired=" Feb. 2006 - Dec. 2012 "]

One one side of the coin of reality, creatures of the night live to plague humans. On the other side is Hellsing, an organization headed by Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing who commands an exceptional amount of power to strike back at not only these monsters, but anyone and anything that would threaten the country of England’s existence. For the difficult job though, Integra calls in Alucard, a vampire who serves her and works against his own vampire kind to maintain peace. After he turns a human, Seras, on the brink of death into his progeny, the two being to battle anything and everything that is foolish enough to rise up against the Hellsing Organization. Alucard is able to use any of his powers at his disposal as long as he is not caught by Alexander Anderson, a priest hell bent on exorcising him. Hellsing Ultimate is the continuation of Hellsing, the TV series. The first couple episodes are more or less a recap of the series and continues to tell the story. Hellsing Ultimate is an OVA though so fair warning, it may be hard to get your hands on a copy of it, but do because this is what a vampire anime is all about. Darkness, fighting, violence, guns ablaze, and more are what you will find by looking under the hood of this anime. Alucard is a bit of a nontraditional vampire in that he serves a human, but everything else against him is not and he makes sure that the viewer is aware from the first moment he steps on screen.

Hellsing Ultimate Trailer:

Blood+

[sourceLink asin="B001152THK" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 50 " aired=" Apr. 2005 - Sept 2006 "]

Saya has a pretty good life in Okinawa with her family. She does suffer from anemia and amnesia, but they are not the worst things in life, so she gets by. One day though, she is attacked by something that wants to feed on human blood. She is saved by a man man Haji who forces Saya to drink his blood. Within an instant, her life changes as the vampire in her and her blood awakens. She kills the monster with relative ease and learns that her past is shrouded in mystery for some reason that she needs to figure out. In comes Red Shield, an organization charged with destroying these horrible monsters. She is going to have to team up with this new weird man Haji and the organization to put a stop to these hellish beasts as well as unlock whatever is hidden in her memories. Blood+ is another fantastic, hyper violent anime. Where Hellsing Ultimate gives you darkness and conspiracy, Blood+ gives you story and drama. In fact, it’s well-liked for its characterization of all things. Especially when you do not see things coming. While 50 episodes seems like a lot, even at the middle and the three quarters mark, you will be mashing the next button to see what comes in the next episode. Blood+ is like vampires with a slight twist as Saya uses her blood on her sword, yet another non-typical vampire facet, to fight. In fact, her blood itself activates the weapon. When you are done, be sure to check out Blood-C as well for a twist on the original.

Blood+ Trailer:

Yes, There Always Is Romance Better than Twilight

That which shall not be mentioned is, to some, a scourge on the face of what romance and vampires can be when mixed. In order to be safe though, we like to view it as a starting point to show that yes, vampires and non-vampires can fall in love and have a fun journey while doing so. Oddly too, Japan loves to court the idea of a supernatural being falling in love with an incredibly average-looking and acting individual. Somehow though, they are able to overcome their differences and fall in some sort of love that will most assuredly offer some form of a bite kiss.

Rosario to Vampire (Rosario + Vampire)

[sourceLink asin="B00B1RB7TO" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 13 " aired=" Jan. 2008 - Mar. 2008 "]

Tsukune Aono is your average teenager, but his grades are so poor that he could not get into any high school! As as last-ditch attempt to have their knuckleheaded son learn something, his parents enroll him at Youkai Academy. He hops on the bus and ends up at the school, but… something seems off. All of the students are transforming?! Yes, Youkai Academy is a school for youkai and monsters. The students take classes just like normal humans do, but they also take classes on how to blend in with human society. There is one rule that all students must follow on campus: If a human is spotted, they are to be killed immediately! As Tsukune has a fateful encounter with a girl names Moka, his life changes where he will not only stay at the academy, but he will start a relationship with Moka who is actually a vampire! Not to mention too, he is going to have a slew of other girls who want a piece of him and his heart as well. What will he do! Yes, this is just like what you would expect with the harem and ecchi genres meeting the supernatural ones. Moka is a vampire in this series. And to top it off, she’s the most popular girl in school, well-sought after, and her father is a monster both in reality and figuratively. Tsukune definitely has his work cut out for him because for a while, he has to fake being human. Moka’s necklace keeps her vampire alter ego hidden inside her, but it does pop out from time to time creating even more drama. This vampire ecchi romcom keeps the vampire theme going but makes it more lighthearted.

Rosario to Vampire Trailer:

Vampire Knight

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="ANZB-3251" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 13 " aired=" Apr. 2008 - Jul. 2008 "]

Cross Academy has two types of students that enroll at their school: Those who are part of the Day Class and those who are a part of the Night Class. It seems like the elites attend classes at Night while the normies attend class during the day. However, that could not be farther from the truth. These classes are actually human classes and vampire classes, and they even live in different dorms. Yuuki and Zero are the two who work together to maintain order. Yuuki has a crush on the head of the Night Class Dorm, Kaname. Zero hates vampires, so surely someone somewhere along the line is about to trip up, but where? Vampire Knight is actually shoujo, so while Hellsing and Blood+ feed your violence and vampire stereotype needs, Vampire Knight is going to crank up the drama and romance to new heights, and boy do they ever. The secrecy of keeping the humans ignorant and the vampires secluded from them hangs in the balance as romance unfolds which you know means one thing: DRAMA. Get ready for an adventure.

Vampire Knight Trailer:

Final Thoughts

These are just some of the suggestions that we have for you if you find yourself new to anime and want to get bit by the vampire bug in anime. Sure, there are lots, but these four that we have suggested are some of the best and easy to get into. There are other great shows like Owari no Seraph, Kekkai Sensen, Blood Lad, Shiki, the Monogatari series and even Demi-chan wa Kataritai on the other end of the spectrum. All either focus on vampires or have vampire characters. Be sure to leave a comment if you have a vampire anime that you love or want others to know about that isn’t already mentioned here. Till next time!

Moss VR E3 2018 Demo Impressions

[ad_top1 class=""]
Adventures in a fairy tale.
You’ve probably heard of Moss by now. It is a beautifully designed and rendered action-adventure puzzle game in which you help an adorable little mouse named Quill to save her uncle from some evil magic. While at E3, we got to try out the VR fantasy game on Oculus plus Touch and jumped right into the world of Moss!

Moss

  • Platform(s): Oculus, Vive, PlayStation VR
  • Genre: Action / Adventure / Puzzle
  • Release Date: February 27, 2018
  • Release: Polyarc
  • Developer: Polyarc
  • Players: 1
Polyarc’s team is made up of talented developers with deep experience working on well-known, AAA franchises such as Destiny, Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Reach, Red Dead Redemption, and Guild Wars 2. With a roster like that, it’s no surprise that everything about Moss is AAA stuff. The story, the character and set design, the puzzle quality, the VR immersion brought about by the clear attention to detail.

Gameplay:

We were lucky enough to get the demo with one of the art department’s stars who gave us a little insight into the world of Moss. The first thing you notice about Moss is the idea of being in a fairytale world, as you’re prompted to open a book and change pages with your own hand, which then takes you to beautiful and detailed fantasy lands. In this world, we meet the spunky and adorable Quill, who is so realistic, you’ll just want to pet her and pick her up. Which you can do! If you pet Quill, she’ll react like she’s enjoying it!, bringing us closer and closer to her. As Quill’s guardian, we guide and aid her in her quest, which can translate into various things: Looking ahead or around a corner to make sure there’s no danger, activating some sort of magic, picking up Quill; sometimes, the puzzles will involve moving large objects that little Quill could never move on her own, or the two of you will need to team up to clear them.
Though she does need your help, Quill isn’t totally defenseless, as she has a tiny sword she can use to fend off enemies and slash through thorns, which is good because those hurt her too! And when the poor thing is hurt, her little mouse heart races! And when you reach out to hold her, you can feel every beat until she settles down. Quill can also jump over obstacles and shimmy past broken platforms and, thankfully, has no fall damage. (I was SO worried about that!) We also learned the hard way that Quill can’t swim. She sinks like a rock. And it’s so sad! Within the first few minutes of looking out for and interacting with this cute little mouse in her world, I’d developed a sense of bonding with little Quill, making me twice as weary of trying new things, lest my new little friend end up hurt. None of that is by mistake, as we were told by team Polyarc; Quill, the surroundings, and interactions are all meant to bring you closer to Quill, to make you feel like you must take care of her and help her out, truly investing a bit of your heart into her story.

Final Thoughts

The Oculus Rift with Touch allows for full immersion, making the player feel like the gorgeous scenery around them is the real thing. While you help and protect her through her journey, Quill is a wonderful character who you really grow to care for quickly thanks to the gameplay design. Have you already played this amazing game yet? If not, what are you waiting for!? Share your experiences with Moss in the comments below!

Three Episode Impression

[ua_synopsis text="Fukigen na Mononokean offers a well-known combination of a high school setting with action and supernatural components. This is not necessarily a bad thing since this genre combination usually works out, but it also doesn’t bring fresh wind into the current line-up. Nothing seems to stand out about Fukigen na Mononokean, neither in a good nor a bad way. If a new comedy, supernatural adventure or high school story is exactly what you are looking for, then give Fukigen na Mononokean a try; it can definitely get a couple of laughs out of you and entertain you during the hot evenings to come."]

Moss VR E3 2018 Demo Impressions

Adventures in a fairy tale

You’ve probably heard of Moss by now. It is a beautifully designed and rendered action-adventure puzzle game in which you help an adorable little mouse named Quill to save her uncle from some evil magic. While at E3, we got to try out the VR fantasy game on Oculus plus Touch and jumped right into the world of Moss!

  • Platform(s): Oculus, Vive, PlayStation VR
  • Genre: Action / Adventure / Puzzle
  • Release: February 27, 2018
  • Publisher: Polyarc
  • Developer: Polyarc
  • Players: 1

Polyarc’s team is made up of talented developers with deep experience working on well-known, AAA franchises such as Destiny, Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Reach, Red Dead Redemption, and Guild Wars 2. With a roster like that, it’s no surprise that everything about Moss is AAA stuff. The story, the character and set design, the puzzle quality, the VR immersion brought about by the clear attention to detail.

[ad_top2 class="mt40"]

Moss Launch Trailer

Final Thoughts

The Oculus Rift with Touch allows for full immersion, making the player feel like the gorgeous scenery around them is the real thing. While you help and protect her through her journey, Quill is a wonderful character who you really grow to care for quickly thanks to the gameplay design. Have you already played this amazing game yet? If not, what are you waiting for!? Share your experiences with Moss in the comments below!

Urashima, an island floating on the ocean far away from the mainland. Urashima is often mistakenly viewed as a paradise, overflowing with nature. However, a difficult past and long-established customs keep the people of this living island prisoners. The residents of this living island have accepted that they have been abandoned by the mainland and are gradually being forgotten about. Then, one day, a boy drifts to the island, and he refers to himself as a “time traveler” named Setsuna. Setsuna has not a single memory left other than that he has a “certain mission” that he must do. He then meets three girls named Rinne, Karen, and Sara. Eventually, he begins efforts to change the future of the island. The story of this boy and these girls will untie the cord around the exclusive customs and various mysteries that surround Urashima.

[ua_character name="Rinne Ohara" voice="Yukari Tamura" desc="Main Character 01 Rinne is the daughter and heir to the Mihara family, one of the three families on Urashima. A shut-in, Rinne is a night owl who stubbornly refuses to go outside during the day. Her hobby is going for walks at night. She appears to know something about Setsuna, but she is tight-lipped about it. It is rumored that approximately five years ago, she was spirited away, however no one dares to speak about it." img='']
[ua_character name="Karen Kurutsu" voice="Kana Asumi" desc="Main Character 02 Karen is the daughter of the head of the island. Karen has a strong-minded way of speaking, and is at the height of her rebellious phase where she has tried to run away from home and leave the island multiple times. Karen was a late bloomer when it comes to romance, and so Setsuna messes with her a lot. She is working vigorously towards her dream of leaving Urashima for the mainland. Karen believes Setsuna to be a mainlander and is extremely curious about him." img='']
[ua_character name="Sara Garandou" voice="Hibiku Yamamura" desc="Sara believes that Setsuna is someone from the future and thus some sort of enemy, so she is always trying to off him. She believes that there are some things that cannot be explained by science. Sara lost both of her parents in a fire five years ago, and while searching for the truth behind their deaths, she is starting to realize the true meaning of her own ‘destiny.’" img='']
[ua_character name="Setsuna Sanenkai" voice="Tatsuhisa Suzuki" desc="Setsuna is a mysterious boy who washed up on the sandy beaches of the island completely naked. Carrying the responsibility of an order to ‘save the world,’ he claims that he has come from the future. This is the only memory that he currently has as he has lost all other essential ones. He cannot even recall who he is or from where he came, but he is an optimist who is carefree and does not think too hard about things." img='']
[ua_character name="Mei Tandori" voice="Yui Nakajima" desc="Aoi is a slender, committee chairman-type. She wears black stockings even in summer. She’s an honors student and is a fountain of knowledge, but she can be so detailed that things often go right over An and Emiri’s heads." img='']

Ever since she was little, she has always had her Leica camera with her to take photos. She’s interested in everything, but this firecracker is also incredibly quick to forget. There’s a higher chance she’ll take a photo of something if it involves a small animal or a beautiful girl." img='']
[ua_character name="Emiri Sunada" voice="Takako Tanaka" desc="Emiri is the mascot glasses character who fakes ignorance. When she pretends to not know something, Mei and An pick her up on it. Baseball is one of Japan’s most popular sports. People will stop everything to watch a game with their favorite teams, and even school-level games are considered important enough to be televised, in particular, the final game of the high-school tournament that is held at the Koshien. Because of that, there are many anime that either have baseball episodes or are completely about the sport. And since every year there are new anime, and at the same time, some old classics get rediscovered, we thought it was time to update the old Baseball list with some new anime that we’re sure you’ll love if you’re a fan of the sport, and that will be great gateways if you have never played.

10. Shippu! Iron Leaguer

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B0002EGOWM" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 53 " aired=" Apr 1993 – Mar 1994 " ]

We open the list with an anime that is not precisely about baseball but shows exactly how Japanese see baseball compared to other sports. Shippu! Iron Leaguer occurs in a far future where humans no longer play games, but instead, have an “Iron League” where different robots compete in diverse sport events for humans’ entertainment. The Dark Organization, a team that prefers cheating rather than good sportsmanship, controls the league; but the Silver Castle, a team formed by older robots, wants to win by following the old rules. The reason why this anime is on the list is because the leader of Silver Castle is Magnum Ace, a leaguer who specializes in Baseball. Besides that, Baseball is one of the main sports in the League’s tournament, together with Soccer and Hockey. So, in general, we get to see a lot of the king of sports, without it being the only focus so it is a great gateway anime for those who aren’t enamored with baseball but want to see how Japan sees it.

9. Slow Step

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B0779DC1ZH" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 5 " aired=" 1991 " ]

No baseball anime list would be complete without one based on Mitsuru Adachi’s works. Slow Step is one of the less known outside of Japan, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth looking for it. Here, we meet Minatsu, a young girl who really hates being chased by both Shu Akiba, and Naoto Kadomatsu, who are members of the boxing club; and also by Yamazakura sensei, the softball and boxing club’s coach. This leads her to perform crazy stunts trying to hide her identity, while also participating in both clubs. While baseball (or, in this case, softball) is not the main focus of the story, it is part of many of the most important scenes and plot points in the anime. The baseball action in the OVA is short but sweet. We can see that Adachi really loves the sport and it shows in how it’s depicted. Yes, two of Minatsu’s suitors are boxers, since Adachi also enjoys it, but it’s in the softball scenes where we can see the art shine. Also, in the anime, unlike the manga, Minatsu decides to marry Yamazakura sensei, and their interactions are more in the softball diamond.

8. Kyojin no Hoshi

[sourceLink asin="B000GCG6G4" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 182 " aired=" Mar 1968 – Sept 1971 " ]

Love for baseball usually runs in the family. A perfect example of this is Hyouma Hoshi, a young pitcher who learned the sport with his father, Ittetsu Hoshi, who used to be an incredible third baseman until he had to retire due to a terrible injury. Hyouma has more talent in the pitching mound, and he is soon drafted to the Yomiuri Giants where he realizes that sheer talent is not enough to be a baseball star. Still, he tries even harder to take his team to the championship, in honor of his father, and his team. Created originally by Ikki Kajiwara and Noboru Kawasaki, Kyojin no Hoshi (Which can be translated to Star of the Giants) is a classic baseball manga that was created to popularize the sport back in the sixties. It was commissioned by the Yomiuri Group, the owners of the Yomiuri Giants, and depicted a fictional group of players to play in the real team. It grew so popular that the series had not only six movies, but also three sequels; one made in 1977, one in 1979, and the most recent in 2002. A real treat for any anime and baseball fan who also has a taste for the classics.

7. Neko Pitcher

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B01LAIAEME" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 51 " aired=" May 2014 – Mar 2016 " ]

Cats are usually adorable. That’s pretty much the reason why Neko Pitcher exists, where we meet the very first cat pitcher in the Japanese Baseball league. Now, this is not a Zootopia-like world where cats are forbidden from playing for some reason. No, in a world full of humans, a normal house cat is now a starting pitcher. Of course, he can pitch like a pro, but he also does things that normal cats do, such as finding the most comfortable place to sleep that is also the place where he won’t let anyone else do anything, or use the bats as scratching posts. Neko pitcher is a cute collection of short situational jokes around cats and baseball. Every episode is about 2 minutes long, which is perfect to make you smile. There are also small factoids about baseball at the end of each episode, which can be educational if you don’t know much about the game. Consider this series a small snack that will let you know if you have a taste for baseball anime that is longer.

6. Moshidora

[sourceLink asin="B004N3BOV4" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 10 " aired=" Apr 2011 – May 2011 " ]

We’ve been talking about shows that showcase people that love baseball; however, Moshidora is the exception to the rule because Minami Kawashima, the main character of Moshidora, hates baseball with all her heart. But when her best friend Yuuki Miyata can’t be the manager of their school team anymore, she immediately volunteers to make her friend happy. Problem is, as she hates the sport, she has no idea how to manage a team, so she decides to buy a book to give her some pointers. Second problem? She picked up a business management book, not a baseball management one. Moshidora is the perfect anime for someone who doesn’t like baseball but kind of wants to know why it’s so popular as a subject for stories. It has everything a sports anime has, with the addition of a main character that just won’t let her personal issues get in the way of her friend’s wishes. It’s an amazing tale of friendship and sportsmanship that is sure to entertain both baseball fans and those who don’t like it.

5. Gurazeni

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="http://www.crunchyroll.com/gurazeni-money-pitch" ]
[Information episodes=" 7+ " aired=" Apr 2018 – Ongoing " ]

Baseball can be many things for many people. It’s a sport, and a form of entertainment, and, of course, a business. Gurazeni is one of the few baseball anime that touches the business side without much exaggeration. Our main character is Natsunosuke Honda, who despite being a professional player is only a relief pitcher for the Spiders. Similar to how it works in the real world, the team has a very clear rule: the player’s salary is determined by their performance in the field. Natsunosuke is one of the highest paid players in the team, and so, he continuously judges other players by their salary, ready to challenge them and remain in his comfortable position in the team. While most baseball anime focuses on the love of the sport and the teamwork, Gurazeni is special since Natsunosuke tends to be more of a loner. He wants to keep his high salary, and for that, he has to be the best. This is why he keeps challenging others rather than looking for their friendship. We have here a more cynical look at the sport, but at the same time, a very enjoyable slice of life anime that will make you smile as we follow the Spiders and their players.

4. Dokaben

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B008TMJJS0" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 163 " aired=" Oct 1976 – Dec 1979 " ]

Tarou “Dokaben” Yamada wasn’t sure he wanted to continue his judo career when he entered high school, so he let his friends and new classmates talk him into joining the baseball club at Meikun high. There, he discovers that his judo training will not go to waste, as his arms are very powerful and soon get him a place in the team as the heavy hitter, the player they all can count on him for long fly balls to the outfields and homeruns when the time is needed. So he and his equally exceptional friends are ready to take the Koshien by storm. Dokaben is a classic baseball anime that has wormed its way into the hearts of many viewers thanks both to the exciting stories, the dynamic way in which the games are presented, and the unique-looking characters. Although it’s not well-known to casual viewers, it’s usually cited in anime books and stories because it influenced authors such as Takehiko Inoue, and it’s even mentioned in Understanding Comics as the main example of how the sport genre works in Japan. Just for that, if you have the chance, watch this amazing series.

3. Yakyuukyou no Uta

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B00006JOKS" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 25 " aired=" Dec 1977 – Mar 1979 " ]

Every baseball fan knows that sometimes, life throws you a curveball and that when that happens, the only thing you can do is grab the bat tightly, keep your eye on that curve and hit it with all your might. This is exactly what happened to Yuki Mizuhara when she enrolled in college wanting to become a veterinarian and instead got drafted to become the first female pitcher for the Japanese Mets. So instead of complaining, once she debuted, she decided to show everyone that women are as good as men at the King of sports. Yakyuukyou no Uta, together with Dokaben are two of the oldest baseball anime, and both are based on manga by the same author, Shiji Mizushima. While Dokaben focuses more on how men see the sport, Yakyuukyou no Uta derives most of its comedy from how the point of view of a woman can see things differently. Now, make no mistake, this is a shounen, not a shoujo, so the action is always on the sport and not on romance.

2. Battery

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="ANZB-12591" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 11 " aired=" Jul 2016 – Sep 2016 " ]

One of the most important parts of a baseball team is the battery: the pitcher and the catcher. Sure, the whole team must be united and understand that if one makes a mistake, they all suffer for it; but the battery is the center of their defense. The pitcher gets the ball rolling and the catcher must see the whole field and make quick decisions for the game, knowing that the pitcher will trust him. Takumi Harada, a young high school pitcher, knows that Go Nakagura is the catcher who can keep up with him. So he convinces Go to join the team at their school, decided to become the best battery high school baseball has ever seen. Unlike other sports anime, Battery focuses much more on the relationship between the characters than in the actual game, so we see little of the sport being played. Still, it is a touching story about teammates and working together for a mutual goal. Not only that, but it avoids falling into some of the traps of the genre: Takumi is far more interested in becoming a good battery with Go than in winning, so that changes a lot of what we’ve come to expect. Add to that nice animation and good music, and you got a highly enjoyable series, even if you’re not a big fan of sports anime.

1. Diamond no Ace (Ace of Diamond)

[sourceLink asin="B00K2SQZSG" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 75 " aired=" Oct 2013 – Mar 2015 " ]

If there’s a fictional player that understands that a pitcher is nothing without his team, it’s Eijun Sawamura. He’s naturally talented at the change-up pitch, which means that in his local junior high school, he’s the best player around and the one who tries to get the whole team to nationals, despite the fact that the other players aren’t that good. But when Seidou High School offers him a scholarship and a place in their prestigious team… he refuses. It takes all his friends and family to make him accept that he can do better at Seidou, and that if he reaches the Nationals, it can be in his friends’ name. So he changes schools, and it’s at Seidou where he finds out that natural talent is not enough to win, and that one player alone doesn’t define the team. From its first season, Ace of Diamond has been one of the best baseball anime on Japanese TV in modern times. While at some points it can be considered a bit cliché with the resolution of some arguments, at the end it shows a very good grasp of baseball and high school teams, managing to balance both the drama among teenagers –who are highly competitive and know that every game must be won if they want to reach the Nationals- and the actual game play, which can keep you on the edge of your seat just like real baseball games do.

10. Touch

Despite the fact that they are twins; Uesugi Tatsuya and Uesugi Kazuya have a striking contrast in personalities. Tatsuya, the older twin, was the ace pitcher in his school baseball club, popular amongst the girls, and a straightforward guy. Kazuya however, is nowhere close to match his older twin. But when Kazuya falls in love with Asakura Minami, the twins’ childhood friend, he becomes motivated to surpass his older twin in baseball and all other things. Touch is an interesting work from Adachi Mitsuru who spawned two more anime about baseball; H2 and Cross Game. Overall, this anime has a fairly slow character development in terms of the protagonist, Kazuya; as he works his way to being an adequate person. But once the main plot starts to unfold, the character development makes it all worthwhile!

9. H2

Kunimi Hiro is a former prodigy pitcher who retired in baseball after being diagnosed with a serious shoulder injury. He then moved to a new school that has no baseball club and joins the football club hoping to forget about baseball altogether. After a series of events, Hiro finds himself unable to forget about baseball and decides to pursue his dream once again. As I mentioned in the previous selection, H2 is also one of the great works from Adachi Mitsuru, so it will be no surprise to find out how similarly the characters are drawn. The character development in this anime is also similarly slow. But all in all, it gets really exciting when the protagonist gets involved with baseball again and helps his baseball club to reach the Nationals!

Kitamura Kou ends up spending a majority of his time hanging out with Tsukishima Wakaba, who belongs to a family that is Kitamura’s business client. Although Wakaba is really fond of Kou, the same can’t be said with her sister Aoba, who resented Kou for some reason. Years after Wakaba’s death by an unfortunate accident, Kou decides to pursue baseball since it was something that Wakaba encouraged Kou to pursue prior to her death. Cross Game is arguably the best work by Adachi Mitsuru, over and above the other two anime listed so far. This anime is packed with interesting romance in its peculiar love-hate relationship between the two protagonists; Kou and Aoba. Aoba’s resentment towards Kou slowly fades away through their involvement in baseball. This anime is definitely something worth checking out!

If you are a girl then this might be the right baseball anime for you! Although it might seem a bit sketchy, it’s really enjoyable from both girls’ and boys’ perspectives. Regardless, the anime brings out that female empowerment that girls need to pursue baseball and all other type of sports that are labelled as ‘boys’ sports. You just can’t help but cheer for these girls in the anime!

During the transition from the Meiji era to the Taisho era, westernization in Japan is still not widely accepted. Therefore, women are still expected to be feminine and become housewives. Ogasawara Akiko sets out on a mission to change that. In her plan to break the stigma of girls doing boy’s activities, she decides to form a baseball club and prove to her father that girls are as capable as boys and that they should be allowed to pursue their own dreams instead of being tied down to their obligation as housewives. This anime has a similar plot to the previous selection on the list, as both protagonists struggle to prove that girls are as good as boys when it comes to sports. But what makes this anime stand out is that the characters that join the club have no knowledge whatsoever about baseball. So how the story progresses is really interesting in terms of how the girls struggle to learn about baseball.

Now set on being the best baseball club manager, Minami accidentally brings a book that was actually about how to manage a business startup. She then uses the basic principles from the book and applies them to baseball club management. From the title you can probably imagine how compelling this anime is going to be. It’s a one-of-a-kind anime that brings you the perspective of managers and coaches, not just the players themselves. The protagonist learns to understand the players and therefore is able to bring out the best in them. If you are looking for something fresh and new, the plot of this anime is the perfect fit!

Since mind games and psychological battles are Toua’s forte, he uses them to help his team achieve their goal to go to the Nationals. One Outs centers more on the psychological and mind battles between Toua and other players. This anime emphasizes not just the physical aspects of baseball but also the mental and mind games as well. It messes up how players will react in given situations, so the suspense is real. You will most certainly enjoy this baseball anime since it has a unique and different ‘flavor’.

There, he met Abe Takaya, a catcher that realizes Mihashi’s unique slow pitching style and is able to utilize it as a way to make Mihashi a true ace for his baseball team. It’s entertaining to see how whimsically Mihashi reacts to everything. How Mihashi establishes an inseparable bond with Abe is really heart-warming in this series since Abe was the only one to be able to get Mihashi to come out of his shell. Overall, the characters’ development is great and makes this a really fun series to watch!

In his new baseball club, Eijun meets Miyuki Kazuya and they both help each other to get their team to the Nationals. Here’s one of the series that everybody is hyped about nowadays, and it’s because of the emotions that this anime puts you through. The protagonist’s relationship with his former teammates is a definite ticket aboard the ‘all-feels’ train. It’s a good example of how a strong bond can affect someone in great ways. The anime also brings out laughter through the eccentric personalities of the characters. So it’s not surprising for viewers to be crying and laughing at the same time while watching this anime!

Winning in sports, games of chance and various “luck based” games is fun to dabble in reality but equally can be a bit, risky. Before you know it, a few bets or games can lead to a dozen and then you’re sadly walking away from your game with less money you started with. We don’t condone gambling or say not to do it here at Honey’s Anime, but we do recommend watching anime centered around gambling as a better alternative for you and your wallet. That’s why one show we always point folks to is Kakegurui which released in 2017. Though if you did happen to see Kakegurui, we can also recommend two shows—Dorei-ku The Animation and Lostorage Conflated WIXOSS—and not so ironically, we plan on doing that with this article. Ready for a High Stakes Spring 2018? Like Kakegurui? Watch This!

If you could control a person’s action and make them into your own personal slaves, would you? Better yet, what would you make your own slave do if you had that dark power? In Dorei-ku The Animation, our story shows off a system called the SCM that allows for the user to control the another SCM holder if they can win against them in a form of competition. Follow several characters who gamble with their SCMs as they try their best to make people into their slaves in a world where losing can be quite disastrous for one and empowering for another.

Major Similarities Between Kakegurui and Dorei-ku The Animation

1. Games of Ultimate Chance

Kakegurui and Dorei-ku The Animation might have different games of chance played, but the results of said games can be quite similar. For example, Kakegurui—which focuses on high schoolers making tons of cash—shows that students who constantly lose are then treated like dogs in the eyes of the better off students. In Dorei-ku The Animation, the money is less of a factor but the enslavement system means you can control a person and make them act like an animal for your twisted pleasure. Kakegurui and Dorei-ku The Animation are focused on games of ultimate chance where you’re going to want to win…

2. Suspense driven

Gambling for some is more than just winning or losing, it’s the adrenaline you get from watching your fate come down to sometimes mere chance. That’s why when you watch Kakegurui or Dorei-ku The Animation, you’re going to be filled with suspense as you wonder who will come out on top! Any anime that keeps you glued to the screen is a good series to us here at Honey’s Anime and that’s why we recommend Dorei-ku The Animation if you loved Kakegurui.

However, while WIXOSS is a game for some, others like Homura find they have been chosen to be Selectors who must play to win. Losing as a Selector means a penalty that Homura will not want to happen…

Major Similarities Between Kakegurui and Lostorage Incited WIXOSS

1. Cards Games with High Risks

Card games are meant to be fun for friends to make small gambles on or just to relax and gather together. In Kakegurui and Lostorage Incited WIXOSS, card games have a darker theme where winning is the only thing that matters. As morbid as that sounds, both shows are exciting to watch because of these similarities and you’ll find yourself wondering who will win and who will undoubtedly lose.

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B01M66GXCG" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]

2. Friends or Enemies

When it comes to gambling, there is no friendship when the game begins because often, a friend, one minute, might turn against you to come out on top. It’s a reality that makes camaraderie in games sometimes a scary thing to stake your trust into. These are lessons learned by the characters in Kakegurui and Lostorage Incited WIXOSS. Choose your friends wisely otherwise you’ll find yourself used and subject to losing a game you don’t wish to lose in.

Final Thoughts

As we said, gambling isn’t a bad thing if you’re able to control yourself and know when to hold and when to push your luck. Though as otaku here at Honey’s Anime, we prefer to save our hard-earned cash and splurge on all things anime related. That’s why the shows above make for low risk as we don’t lose money watching them and equally don’t find ourselves enslaved by a fellow player…All jokes aside though, have you seen the shows we mentioned above yet or plan to? How Do You Make a Demon Anime? [Definition, Meaning]

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="TBZR-856" text="" url="" ]

“How to Summon Your Own Demon” sounds like something that, these days, could pass for an anime title, no? You have some either occult obsessed boy or girl summon a demon who always “happens” to be of the opposite gender, and then they start living together in either a heavily comedic fashion, a supernatural battle fashion, or if the mc is lucky, a sexy slice of life fashion. Realistically though, you have those setups, but what about a more traditional one? Devils and demons tend only to be a half step away from each other and anime they appear in tends to use one or the other, sometimes both, to paint some form of narrative. But what does a devil anime need, right? Summoning circles aside—which is something you rarely see anyway—the anime usually have some regular setup that allows demons and devils to just walk into our world and do their thing. So today, we thought for those who are new to anime, we would explore another genre of anime in hopes of guiding you in the right direction.

[ad_top2 class="mt40"]

There Are Stereotypes

Oh no! A Cliched anime? Tell me it isn’t so! Anime lives and breathes around countless tropes in order to be able to tell us stories. Sure, a lot of them overlap, and honestly if you switched names and hairstyles, you could probably get a work or two past fans with little to no effort. However, demon anime really has sort of stretched across every genre. Sure, we have the typical demon anime with action and supernatural elements, and there are the fantasy ones was well, but demon anime can also be like we said where someone meets a devil, Satan himself, or devils, and then suddenly it’s like bam, everything is cool and they are helping the demon who is ignorant of the world and its ways as if it’s no big deal. The strange or rather, unique thing about Japan is that Christianity and all other major world religions have only had a brief stint in Japan due to their own polytheistic religion blended with Buddhism being enforced for so long. Because of this, Japanese people are not losing their minds like a white family from say… Mississippi would be if a demon or the devil appeared in front of them. That is what makes these stories so unique, is that people rarely do lose their minds over this thing. Let’s take a look at a few series that really drive home the concept of a devil character in anime.

Ao no Exorcist (Blue Exorcist)

[sourceLink asin="B00DK3PAR2" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 25 " aired=" Apr. 2011 - Oct 2011 "]

The human world is not the only world out there. Assiah is the name of the human realm and Gehenna is the name of the devil world. A thin barrier separates the two worlds and demons are sometimes able to make it to the human realm. However, Satan is too powerful and always destroys whatever vessel he inhabits. So, he sends his children to be born into the human world to one day be vessels for his reach to extend to the human world. Rin and Yukio are two twin boys who happen to be the sons of satan. Yukio is an exceptional exorcist and works with an organization to regularly purge the human world of demons. His twin Rin, however, is a bit troubled and the truth has been hidden from him until one day when all of that comes to a screeching halt as Rin loses everything other than his brother to demons. Facing the truth that he is the son of Satan, Rin decides to become the best blue flamed exorcist there is and destroy Satan for ruining his happiness. Ao no Exorcist sounds like something right out of The Exorcist. You have a character who is born and learns that he is the son of Satan and will become a vessel for his father to one day walk on Earth. Demons are everywhere in the series and it is laden with fights and plenty of supernatural action; just what you would expect from a demon anime. The heat is turned up further with the battles including the end of the season where everything reaches a zenith. As one would expect from a stereotype of devils, Rin has horns and the ability to make blue flames appear around him when he is ready to attack. Angels do not play as much of a role as one would expect in a series like this, but bar none, this series is an excellent, profound, and moving demon anime.

Devilman Crybaby

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="ANZX-14231" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 10 " aired=" Jan. 5, 2018 "]

Akira Fudou is a good friend to some and a pain in the neck to others with his propensity to help everyone. This makes him a bit of a bleeding heart. However, naturally curious, he gets sucked in immediately when his genius friend Ryou asks him to help him investigate demons. He gets way in over his head when he realizes that Ryou has brought him to not only a demon summoning ground, but a demon feeding ground at that. Demons generally take over the body of the human they acquire and feed on other humans, but for some reason, Akira’s will is so strong, that he is actually able to take over the demon’s powers and thus, get powers of his own. Now, he is Devilman and he has the power to defeat the demons around him. Akira forgives and now works with Ryou to defeat evil and understand more about himself. Devilman Crybaby is on this list for a lot of reasons, but it shocked the anime world when it debuted for how compellingly and interestingly a story it told. You are immediately shown scenes that can only be described as depraved beyond all measure as you dive in meaning that you are not only surprised at what you see, but you also are learning more and more with each passing moment. The devils here are summoned in a more traditional, and biblical if you will, fashion by having a scene full of human depravity; sex, drugs, alcohol, carnal nature uninhibited, and more. This leads to the devils being able to hop into the bodies of humans. They then are able to cause havoc. As Akira learns more and more about what these devils are, the revelation will be all that much more shocking to him. Not to mention, too, they all have strange bodies and fantastic powers.

Devilman Crybaby PV:

A Hard Left

Like we mentioned in the intro, you do not necessarily need to have a serious, action-packed anime like Ao no Exorcist or Devilman Crybaby. Sometimes, it’s more fun to kick back, have a laugh, and watch as demons, devils, or even Satan himself, tries to make sense of the world around him. More often than not though, this ends up being something where they make a fool of themselves much to the delight of the viewer. However, this puts us in this weird paradoxical situation where the viewer is to enjoy the growth of this demon or Satan in the human world. Something we would not do in real life, but in anime, it seems alright. Let’s take a look at two staples of this kind of demon anime.

Hataraku Maou-sama! (The Devil is a Part-Timer!)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="NEOBK-910661" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 13 " aired=" Apr. 2013 - Jun. 2013 "]

Satan is making his move on a land in order to conquer it with his numerous allies and armies. However, he was not powerful enough, and with his back up against the wall, he does what any demon would do and flees through a portal to regroup. He and Alsiel, a general, land in the human realm but are stranded! They cannot seem to get back to where they were, and speaking of, they cannot even go back to Hell! They are stuck! So, Satan tries to make the best of it and goes by Sadao Maou. He even gets a job to cover expenses while in this world and to survive. Sadao ends up working at MgRonald’s and suddenly realizes that there is something in this world that can be conquered: the corporate ladder! All he needs to do is make customers happy and satisfied and he will be set! Meeting after resolving their issues, Emi helps spur him along even further. Order up! So there are a few plot holes we should mention right away, namely being that Satan can speak Japanese no problem despite being from another dimension. He also fails to use his powers to make himself wealthy. In the meantime though, he is Satan in this world as he tries to come to grasps with this strange new world and their customs in Japan. He makes us laugh over and over again as Emi tries to help him while he just densely crashes through everything. Somehow, it does manage to go well most of the time, but Emi sure has lost of explaining to do as well. For a lighter take on demon anime, Hataraku Maou-sama! is a must.

Gabriel DropOut

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B01N1TS001" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" Jan 2017 - Mar 2017 "]

Gabriel has come to Earth tasked with the mission of studying humans so that she can become a full-fledged angel. This kind of goes her way until one day, she accidentally clicks a game and becomes sucked into it. No longer caring about earth, Gabriel, or Gabe, is lazy, rude, messy, and a shut-in. Heck, she even calls herself a fallen angel. This drives her devil classmate Vignette nuts. She tries her hardest to get Gabriel back on track despite the fact that Vignette is a demon and the natural enemy of angels. Pile that on with Satanichia another demon who is playing with half a deck of cards at best, and Raphiel, a terrifyingly sadistic angel who is not that far off from Gabriel, and you have a surefire recipe for comedy. Gabriel DropOut follows this group of unlikely friends as they live in the human world. This too takes a very lighthearted approach to the concept of demons and even introduces angels as well. While yes, the series does center around Gabriel, Vignette and Satanichia are both front and center with her leading to hilarious situations every time. Vignette is too straight-laced and a goody two shoes meaning that she struggles incredibly to do bad things as is her mission. Meanwhile, Satanichia has so much misplaced confidence that it’s hilarious watching the other characters set her up while she thinks that she has the upper hand. Watch out for the cockroach blurs and the floating panties though! If you want a good laugh that also looks at how angels and devils could be reincarnated as Japanese girls, then run, don’t walk to this comedy masterpiece from 2017.

Final Thoughts

These are just some of the suggestions that we have for you if you find yourself new to anime and want to explore where demons can be in anime. If you want to take it seriously, then you have good starting points with two shows, and if you want to see it in a less cookie cutter format, you have two more. Of course, there are a litany of other series like Inuyasha, Devil May Cry, Black Butler, Claymore, Berserk, Blood Lad, Beelzebub, High School DxD, and more. Sometimes though, having a starting point helps. If you have any more that you think would be great here or want to see more, then be sure to let us know in the comments. Till next time!

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu Concert Review

“Enter the world of cute monsters!”

  • Event: The Spooky Obakeyashiki: Pumpkins Strike Back
  • Date: Monday June 18th, 2018
  • Location: Playstation Theater, New York City
[ad_top2 class="mt40"]

Intro: Welcome to the Spooky Obakeyashiki

Having caught the attention of the world with her 2011 single Pon Pon Pon, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s American fans were happy to welcome their princess back to New York for her second American tour. Despite it being two years since her return, her recently released single “Kimi no Mikata (Your Ally)” kept her fresh in everyone’s minds with its catchy beat and message of encouragement. Like her 2016 5 Years Monster World Tour, the theme was monsters (Obakeyashiki meaning ‘haunted house’) unsurprising for someone whose music videos consist of spooky creatures, creepy/cute imagery, and crazy, out-of-this-world costumes.

Monday was an uncomfortable 91 degrees that had a lot of fans who had dressed extravagantly for the occasion quite sweaty. Despite the PlayStation Theater’s 2100 person capacity, VIP fans had to wait an hour outside under a bit of shade before being rushed to the photo op before the show. All was forgiven once Kyary’s beautiful face came into view and her sweet smile gave new life to her tired fans. After pictures were taken by the professional cameraman as this was a “no personal picture” event, they were issued a beautiful clear file with Kyary’s tour outfit image and a creepy black and red bracelet. Then it was time to purchase the tour goods left over from the European leg of her tour which sadly meant less variety. There was one style of adult shirts, 2 child shirts, and two towels with the tour logo. The bar right across from the tour goods didn’t open until general admission attendees were let in so most people simply rushed to the front of the stage and stayed there.

Most fans gathered were young adults or older teens dressed in either tour shirts or spooky, colorful styles consisting of eyeballs, frills, and whimsical designs. A giant screen played a bloody tour logo that would occasionally drip or splatter and the stage had an eerie gate with red lanterns that seemed to lead to another world. It turned 8:00 pm and the screams for Kyary were incessant. Suddenly, the video changed to what must be Kyary’s point of view in her dressing room. Then, 3 monsters appeared; a yokai without a head, a fox spirit, and a haunted umbrella. They demanded she shows the world how terrifying monsters are to make up for making them look cute in her music. Kyary tried to resist but when they threatened to curse her audience, she reluctantly agreed. The video ended with her manager telling her through the door that the show was starting and then she appeared onstage as if she had just run out of her changing room.

[balloon_speech align="left" text="Kyary is as radiant as ever, no matter what she wears!" image="bee-surprised2"] [balloon_speech align="right" text="These monsters are kind of scary! But thankfully, Kyary’s here to protect us from their curses!" image="honey-happy4"]

Performance: Haunted, Happy House

Kyary steps out in her outfit from her tour promotion photos, a dress with a spooky red lantern pattern and red and gold headpiece that adds to the elegant yet otherworldly ambiance. Appropriately, she starts the show off with Fashion Monster, one of her more popular songs. The long-necked monster also stepped out to get the crowd hyped, he raising his walking stick and Kyary lifting her enormous red lantern encouraging the crowd to cheer. Everyone seemed to know the lyrics and excitedly sang or screamed along. Four orange, troll-looking dancers with wild greyish-blue hair crept and jerked their bodies in mesmerizing ways as the song continued. As Kyary went from song to song, the energy levels never dipped. Her high but powerful voice never faltered, despite her fast pace, and her loyal fans were all too happy to belt out the words they knew along with her. Even when some people went to sit down due to the overwhelming heat, they excitedly chanted and bobbed up and down. Her backup dancers truly must have been monsters to dance so hard with smiles on their faces. Several times between songs, Kyary would take a moment and chat with the audience. She tried to speak English despite it being hard for her and everyone was delighted with how much she engaged with everyone. She often spoke just in Japanese and she seemed surprised but happy that so many people could follow along and reply back. The longer the concert went on, the more at ease she seemed to feel and the more she talked about personal matters such as where she went shopping, what she ate, or how hard her latest dance was to learn. The audience yelled their appreciation and responded in Japanese, proving neither a spirit barrier nor a language barrier could separate them from the Harajuku pop princess. At the halfway point, Kyary was joined on stage by her kitsune (fox spirit) friend and then disappeared through the spooky gate. A special instrumental played while the fox spirit danced and swayed, pulling the audience in with her hypnotic movement. The background oni stayed on stage continuing to dance as well. After a few minutes passed, Kyary took to the stage with an entirely different outfit. She emerged in a tight black outfit with black feather sleeves, black wing headpiece, and pants, something the singer almost never wears. Everyone was taken aback by this dark, mature, yet still very Kyary look. What had been an energetic cheering turned into a stunned appreciation as it took the audience a few moments to collect themselves. She further surprised her fans by breaking it down and dancing in ways she hadn’t before. It was as if a dark hip-hop spirit had taken over and given her powers. She continued on with “Ninja Re Bang Bang”, “Sai & Kou”, and finished the set with “Crazy Party Night”. The fox spirit and long neck yokai came back on stage for this special monster song and really got the crowd going. Despite everyone’s voices having been strained, they called over and over again for an encore. The excessive body heat was nearly overwhelming but no one wanted to part before Kyary appeared one last time. Gracing everyone with a new ‘happy exorcist’ outfit, Kyary came back for three more songs. She ended the night with her most popular song “PON PON PON” which had everyone singing and dancing along despite the limited space. Kyary and her fans yelled thank you to each other for a good while before she finally left for good. Hot, tired, yet having thoroughly enjoyed themselves, everyone went off into the night.

[balloon_speech align="left" text="WHOA BABY!! Where’d that outfit come from?? This has gotta be my favorite costume change of all time!" image="bee-love"] [balloon_speech align="right" text="We made eye contact!! I think she smiled at me, we gotta keep cheering, Bee-kun!!" image="honey-happy3"]

Outro: Desiring to Reach Each Other

After “No, No, No”, Kyary explained her second look was inspired by crows, which she loves. She asked how everyone liked it and was taken aback as everyone screamed ‘KAKKOI!!!’ (cool) at her. She smiled brightly and thanked everyone. As if encouraged by the audience trying to communicate in an easy way for her to understand, she tried talking about how her new dance had been hard for her. When she got to a point in the story she didn’t know how to say in English, she used a translating app on the spot, determined to explain. “My body…is… hard!” she said about being inflexible. After demonstrating she couldn’t even reach her toes, everyone yelled that she had worked hard. She seemed to have renewed vigor and smiled harder during her songs. It was a sweet moment that really seemed to resonate with everyone. Another powerful moment between Kyary and her audience was when she sang her new song “Kimi no Mikata”. Everyone felt Kyary’s earnest desire to motivate her fans to follow their dreams, wear what they want, and not let anyone take their voice away. She promised to be everyone’s ally and people either sang along or swayed in quiet awe of her. She moved all around the stage and looked out into the crowd as if to personally assure each and every one there that she was on their side. The visuals and performance of the Spooky Obakeyashiki show were even more impressive than her 5 Year Monster concert from two years ago. It was as if she wanted to surprise her fans with how much she could do, and boy, were they impressed. Probably before this show, no one would have anticipated her break dancing or sporting tight leather pants but after the initial shock wore off it seemed like a natural choice for someone that likes to keep her audience guessing. The special appearance of obake characters dancing and interacting with the audience made for a more immersive experience with the haunted house theme as Kyary delivered another fantastic and out-of-this-world performance.

[balloon_speech align="left" text="I cheered and jumped so much I feel like I ran a marathon, but this was way more fun! I think I’ll start experimenting with my style more; I’m feeling inspired!" image="bee-blushing"] [balloon_speech align="right" text="I know the monsters wanted to be scary, but I couldn’t help but get excited when they’d come back on stage! I hope we’ll get to see them in future shows too!" image="honey-starryeyes"]
