Rules of Anime Featured Image Wallpaper

Anime is filled with tons of entertainment and visuals that has left viewers in “awe” when it comes to interpreting/conveying the writers and/or illustrators of anime. This can extend to the limits of reality, defying all laws/rules of what makes the world go round. Some people may feel surprised when they see certain anime they can't comprehend, leaving them uninterested when watching a series, or they can't get past their own beliefs of anime being a childish cartoon which hinders those from maturing. If they were to only broaden their horizons, they will know quickly that anime isn't some mere cartoon for children, it's the best way to defy all of reality and enjoy something you would have never imagined before. This would entail going against the laws/rules of universal, physical, and natural phenomenons, as well as the physics of reality. This article will hopefully be useful to both newcomers and veterans alike of the anime world in either educating, clarifying and understanding anime! Or, just simply being down right funny! The first rule we will be covering is one that exists in all forms and types of anime (for the most part). We hope the explanation of this rule (with more to come), will help everyone understand anime for the better! Here are three examples that will help you understand The Law of Metaphysical Irregularity! Enjoy! - Rule #1 - The Law of Metaphysical Irregularity - This is basically stating that the normal laws of physics in reality are non-existent in anime. The basic definition of the laws of physics states it is the relations (in scientific studies) between matter, energy, time, and space. Anime can easily defy these relations by altering and/or bending the rules to fit the situation/outcome of an anime series story and/or theme.

1. The Utilization of Chakra in Naruto

law_of_metaphysical_irregularity_Naruto

If there was an example to give that defies all of these elements in anime, it has to chakra. The use of chakra in anime is overwhelming and entertaining if used properly. A lot of anime can seem extremely over the top with chakra, even to the point of evolving into a new category like Nen, from Hunter x Hunter. A great example of an anime that has excellent use of chakra, and has a strong popularity with the viewers, is Naruto. With chakra being the strongest element in the series, it gives perfect examples of how to alter/bend the laws of physics in a metaphysical way, and not so much Irregular. Chakra is known to be real but doesn't actually take form, and has elements of significant use with the characters in Naruto. This can be viewed in many different ways; from the characters walking on walls and trees, to jumping great distances and even controlling another person at will.

2. The Equivalent Exchange in Fullmetal Alchemist

Roy_Mustang__Flame_Alchemist__by_Battousai777

Another great example of The Law of Metaphysical Irregularity is Fullmetal Alchemist. The use of alchemy in this series bends the rules, much like Naruto and its use of chakra. The only thing is, when using alchemy, you have some limitations in performing certain abilities. Roy Mustang is a great example as he use alchemy combined with air in an open space to ignite flames of fire at will, and in large amounts. This can only be done by drawing alchemy symbols in order to activate and control the elements, much like the Hand Seals in Naruto. If those symbols are not completed the user can not perform the abilities that come with it. Also, in the case of Roy Mustang, he can not use his abilities within a close room or small area. This is due to the lack of flowing oxygen which he needs in order to manipulate fire, but nonetheless, using alchemy is a way to bend the rules/laws of physics in the most metaphysical and irregular way.

3. The Complex Mechanisms of Devil Fruits in One Piece

Gura_Gura_no_Mi_Whitebeard

The next example of The Law of Metaphysical Irregularity has to be one of the most natural, yet unnatural, forms that defy the laws of physics in an understanding way, if it really existed. They are the Devil Fruits in One Piece. The Devil Fruits are pretty much a natural mystery in the anime, if found and consumed, it will alter your body in certain ways by giving abilities that one can benefit from, or hate for the rest of their lives. Most of all of the altering abilities of the characters in One Piece are of natural elements. Of course, some are a bit exaggerated than others, but it wouldn't be anime without these metaphysical irregularities. They most certainly go against the laws of physics as some characters can transform their entire body into fire (Ace), ice (Kuzan), and even destroying all universal and physical forms of reality with a single punch by creating unthinkable earthquakes in the most exaggerated way (Whitebeard). It is said a "certain professor" will be able to explain the complex mechanics of Devil Fruits in the series in the near future! We'll just have to wait and see!

Alphonse Tragedy wallpaper

Hopefully, these are some good examples to help explain this rule of, The Law of Metaphysical Irregularity in anime. It's a known fact that because of this law, and many more like it, anime wouldn't be as entertaining and enjoyable as most would believe. I know there are a lot of Slice of Life and Rom Com fans out there who prefer anime based on real situations or even series that seem natural and make sense. I like those too, but not all the time. When it comes to anime, there are not limits as to what a person can enjoy and call the “Best” or a “Masterpiece.” All anime is great, and it covers all forms of entertainment and imagination for everyone to enjoy! Without it, anime would be boring and uninteresting for many viewers. Plus, everyone bends some kind of rule, right?! What anime have you seen that fits the The Law of Metaphysical Irregularity? Give us an example and let us know what made you like or dislike about it? The Rules of Anime **Note: We gathered these Rules of Anime from the source linked in this article, and provided more insight on the topic with some examples for everyone to understand clearly. We are in no way claiming these rules as our own! These rules belong to their perspective owners!**

After over five years of waiting, audiences finally got the sequel to Wreck-it-Ralph, or Ralph Breaks the Internet. Now that the internet is connected to the arcade where Vanellope von Schweetz and Ralph reside, they can explore a whole new world (as Aladdin and Jasmine best put it). As opposed to being a movie about classic arcade games, the movie expands to modern American pop culture as a whole. So for those of you who enjoyed Ralph Breaks the Internet, what are some titles from the world of anime to check out?

Major Similarities Between Ralph Breaks the Internet and High Score Girl

1. Nostalgic Video Games

Just like how Ralph Breaks the Internet gives older viewers a taste of nostalgia, High Score Girl offers something similar but in context to Japan’s gaming scene. Haruo and his best friend Akira love to go at it at Street Fighter II in the arcades, which is given a cameo in the Ralph movie. Through video games, we see how friendships are formed and it also gives international audiences an idea just how big the PC Engine (or the TurboGrafx-16) was over there. Just like how we see the games with their original graphics in context to the outside world, High Score Girl offers its viewers that same flavor. Though the animation is relatively cheap and simple looking, it offers the same kind of heart warming flavor of making friends through games just like Ralph Breaks the Internet does.

So, what if your favorite anime, video game, manga, and/or light novel characters (for better or worse) all came to the real world? Well, it would certainly be the battle of the century as this is what happens in the 2017 hit, Re:Creators!

Major Similarities Between Ralph Breaks the Internet and Re:Creators:

1. Pop culture mash up

In comparison to Ralph Breaks the Internet, Re:Creators takes the notion of mixing various pop culture reference, and just makes it dark and intense. Though they don’t directly use characters from other properties, it is obvious for fans to see who the featured characters are meant to reference. Mamika is a homage to Madoka from Madoka Magica, Selesia spoofs Asuna from Sword Art Online, and Yuuya’s summon is similar to a Persona, or a Stand from JoJo. While Disney has the money to get the rights to use various characters featured in Ralph Breaks the Internet, Re:Creators tweaks it enough for hardcore fans to get who references who. What makes Re:Creators more exciting than Ralph Breaks the Internet is as opposed to co-existing within the internet, these characters are magically brought to the real world and duke it out!

Final Thoughts

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="NEOBK-2297804" text="" url="" ]
Lastly, we would like to disclaim that the list we made is mostly aimed for mature audiences. While we know that Ralph Breaks the Internet is a family film, a good portion of anime is difficult to recommend due to cultural differences and what parents want their children to be exposed to. In Re:Creators, there is a considerable amount of violence and death, and No Game No Life explores a very mature issue of Japanese society. The closest we can recommend for all audiences is probably High Score Girl. If any of you reading are parents, we’d like to caution that you should personally view these recommendations yourselves before showing them to anyone 18 or younger. If you do choose to expose your children to anime, that’s great, just teach them the difference between right and wrong, and the Norm MacDonald method of distinguishing between reality and fantasy; fantasy good, reality bad.

One thing anime and manga do well is present steadfast and long-standing character archetypes that are immediately identifiable given a long time enjoying the media. We’re going to zoom in on a popular archetype that has grown leaps and bounds, especially after the introduction of Neon Genesis Evangelion’s Ayanami Rei, the one known as the kuudere. Cold and stoic, kuudere characters get their name from their “coolness”, a calmness in almost any situation and an apparent lack of emotions. There can be several different types which present themselves in various ways but for the most part, if they’re cold and expressionless, they’re probably a kuudere. Now to look at ten of our favourites from manga – you might know some of these very well!

Several centuries ago, giant humanoid creatures known as Titans appeared, driving humanity to the brink of extinction. Their appetites for human flesh know no bounds, and soon after their appearance, humanity began fighting a seemingly hopeless fight for survival. If it weren’t for the remnants of humankind choosing to find refuge behind tall concentric walls, human beings would have long since gone extinct. Eren Jaeger, Mikasa Ackerman and Armin Arlert are three children living in the town closest to the outermost wall. They dream of one day exploring the world beyond the walls. One day, this peaceful scene is destroyed when a massive Titan appears and tears a hole in the outermost wall, letting in hordes of Titans which then tear apart the town. Eren promises that he will eradicate every single Titan on earth in hopes that one day, humanity will be able to live without fear. The ever-passionate Eren Jaeger, who promised to completely exterminate the titans after one of them claimed his mother’s life, loses his reactionary persona for something colder than Captain Levi himself. He grew out his hair, gained facial hair and also a sharp tongue. One so sharp that he even tells Mikasa straight-up that he has always hated her. His new appearance is first introduced when he infiltrates Marley under the alias Kruger and commits himself to his mission. His eyes have lost their famous intensity and have a dead coldness to them – a stunning change from the intense anger and passion Eren Jaeger is best known for.

Kageyama Shigeo, also known as “Mob”, is an eighth grader who also happens to be a super-powerful esper. He’s been able to bend spoons, lift objects with his mind since he was a child; however, a few unsavoury incidents with his abilities have caused him to hold back. Soon after Rukia’s arrival, a Hollow attacks Ichigo’s home and wounds Rukia, who offers Ichigo her powers so he can save his family. The head of one of the four noble families in Soul Society, Kuchiki Byakuya. Doubling as the Captain of the 6th Squad, Byakuya is as by-the-book as it comes. His stoicism seems like his true nature; however, it is an attitude he took up soon after becoming the new Kuchiki head. He used to have major anger issues and even a bit of a foul mouth; however his coolness is unparalleled, not showing a shred of emotion not even as his sister was placed on Soul Society’s death row. Despite this, his care and regard for other people as well as his promises runs deep. A true leader, Byakuya maintains his coolness such that it is no longer just him putting on airs – his aloofness is now who he really is.

3. Himuro Yukina – Watashi ni xx Shinasai! (Missions of Love)

While seemingly a normal high school student, Himuro Yukina is actually the popular cell phone novelist Yupina. However, given her cold demeanour and icy glare, Yukina’s classmates tend to avoid her entirely and have given her the nickname “Absolute Zero Snow Woman”. Yukina’s writing is going through a slight rough patch and her ratings have decreased, so she wants to put romance into her work to spice things up, but she has no experience whatsoever with that kind of thing. While looking for a way to change this, she runs into Kitami Shigure, the charming student council president, who drops his notebook. When she opens it, she finds a list of every single girl who has ever confessed to him, realising that he manipulate girls into confessing to him just so he can reject them and that his personality is nothing like what he pretends to be. Confronting Shigure about what she has learned, Yukina tries to use it to blackmail him into teacher her about love. However, things get a little hairy when Yukina’s cousin and only friend, Shimotsuki Akira, becomes jealous and confesses his love to her – perhaps Yukina has signed up for more than she bargained for! Himuro Yukina, also known as Absolute Zero Snow Woman, is a seriously cold high school girl. Her stoicism knows no bounds and she comes off as incredibly aloof to anyone who doesn’t know her very well. This is very much because of her disconnection from her emotions and the abstract aspects of her being. Which is why she clumsily tries to manipulate her way into understanding things like love and romantic relationships, due to the fact that she can only observe what happens around her and barely understands her inner workings – but that can change… with time.

Kanzaki Nao’s father taught her to be honest, so she can live up to her name. However, Nao has taken being honest to its logical conclusion, which sees her being labelled a “foolishly honest girl” by the people around her. This obviously makes her the worst possible candidate for the “Liar Game”, a game in which players must deceive other players out of large sums of money, which in turn places them in huge debt. Despite her being ill-suited to it all, Nao receives a large box containing 100 million yen and a card informing her of her participation in the high-stakes game. Soon after receiving it, Nao is deceived out of all the cash and soon thrown into despair. However, she hears of a genius scammer being released from prison after serving his sentence on the back of sending a large major corporation into bankruptcy. Nao finds the man, Akiyama Shinichi, and begs for his help. So begins Kanzaki Nao’s descent into the greed and deception of the Liar Game. Akiyama Shinichi, a genius swindler who knows human nature like the back of his hand. Shinichi is Nao’s best bet at surviving the treachery of the Liar Game and his plans are almost always fool-proof. One of the main aspects of his deceit is his never-changing expressionless face – Akiyama Shinichi can keep his cool under any and all circumstances, making his inclusion in the Liar Game the best decision honest Nao has made.

Final Thoughts

In reality, a lot of people take aloofness the wrong way. The inability to see what someone is thinking at a glance tends to make people uncomfortable, but realistically, it only makes sense that people who don’t always outright display their emotions still have emotions. The kuudere characters in anime and manga are the perfect depiction of this – their coldness and stoic nature are parts of who they are and because of these aspects, we come to appreciate the character a whole lot more! Who are your favourite manga kuudere characters? Drop a comment below and tell us all about them!

  • Aniplex of America and Fathom Events have teamed up with the National Pancreas Foundation for the release of the anime film I want to eat your pancreas, which hits movie theaters nationwide on February 7 and 10.
  • The heartwarming, coming-of-age film is based on Yoru Sumino’s bestselling novel about two teenagers, an aloof bookworm and a bubbly high school girl who suffers from an unspecified terminal pancreatic illness. The film, which comes to over 400 movie theaters across the U.S. in February, will be accompanied with a pre-show which includes information on the pancreas as well as services provided by the National Pancreas Foundation in hopes of raising awareness on a not often talked about topic.
  • The foundation’s website states its mission as providing “hope for those suffering from pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer through funding cutting edge research, advocating for new and better therapies, and providing support and education for patients, caregivers, and health care professionals.”
  • I want to eat your pancreas is produced by Studio VOLN (Idol Incidents, Ushio & Tora) and directed by Shinichiro Ushijima (Hunter x Hunter, One Punch Man). The special two day event includes the world premiere of the English version of the film, featuring cast members Robbie Daymond (Sailor Moon, Digimon Adventure tri.) and Erika Harlacher (Fate/Apocrypha, Violet Evergarden) voicing the two main characters, along with voice actress Erica Mendez from KILL la KILL and Your lie in April making her directorial debut.

Synopsis

She said, “I want to eat your pancreas.” Spring time in April and the last of the cherry blossoms are still in bloom. The usually aloof bookworm with no interest in others comes across a book in a hospital waiting room. Handwritten on the cover are the words: “Living with Dying.” He soon discovers that it is a diary kept by his very popular and genuinely cheerful classmate, Sakura Yamauchi, who reveals to him that she is secretly suffering from a pancreatic illness and only has a limited time left. It is at this moment that she gains just one more person to share her secret. Trying to maintain a normal life as much as possible, Sakura is determined to live her life to the fullest until the very last day. As her free spirit and unpredictable actions throw him for a loop, his heart begins to gradually change. An unforgettable spring and the best time of her life.

Finger Fantasy

Kakeugurui is back and in a manner that makes sense, but at the same time, is something that is expected. You can already tell for the most part what is going to happen and honestly, it allow me to predict what is going to happen at the end of this season, however, let’s go and just tackle what we were given. So the series opens with Yumeko and Midari in a bet against a new character where they cut strings to cut a blade and basically the first person to pull their finger out, loses. It’s chicken with very high stakes. Meanwhile, be that what it is, the series is trying it’s hardest to have fans jump right back in and honestly, I’m quite willing. The banter of Yumeko and Midari is adorable and funny. I love watching Yumeko switch from adorable to tsundere and just being hilarious while doing so. So as she jumps back and forth between the two character traits, their opponent gets psyched out and loses for fear that she will lose a finger. Then the curtain is pulled back to reveal that Kirari has brought in members of her family to compete against Yumeko and she is leaving for the time being. This is season two. Forget the student council, you have the whole family to defeat now. This season is either going to be Yumeko defeating the student council and then a cliffhanger ending with her getting ready to battle her and we get a movie as the sequel OR a third season. Mark my words. With the sheer number of Kirari’s family members, this season is going to be all about them.

What is going on?

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="Sentai Filmworks" url="https://www.sentaifilmworks.com/news/sentai-filmworks-saves-otaku-culture-with-pastel-memories" ]

Pastel Memories presents itself as an intriguing anime about an Akiba that does not have anything otaku related. It seems that everyone but the girls at a cosplay cafe have forgotten that Akiba used to be a place where otaku could indulge in life and get out to have fun. Manga is harder to find. There are no more maid cafes. There is nothing anime related at all, but the girls at a particular cosplay cafe want to fix things. Well, I said “intriguing,” but really, it’s only different from your usual anime plotline. As for if it really is intriguing, well...it’s pretty terrible right from the start. The girls go on a mission to find every manga for a specific series and that seems to be where all of their hopes lie. Then, just as you are thinking that the anime is going to be really stupid, girls teleport back from a mission in another dimension. What. Just. Happened. I cannot even tell you exactly what goes on in this anime because when the other girls teleported in, I was lost completely. This anime seems to be all over the place right from episode 1. The animation is really terrible, and none of the characters have any….personality. I’m not even quite sure I realized any of them were different from anyone else. Like the headline says: “What is going on?”

Crimson Flames and Reunited Heroes

Title: Dororo Ep. 02
Rod Locksley
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="NEOBK-1757916" text="" url="" ]

As dark and mysterious as it is, Dororo is shaping up as one of the best anime of the Winter season. To be fair, you could have imagined that just by looking at its main character, a man with swords where his arms should be and who can’t properly feel or communicate with others. If the first episode was impactful then the second one is just as good, giving us a little more info regarding the story and the protagonists themselves. By far, the highlight of the story is the fight against Bandai, a man-eating demon hidden behind a beautiful woman’s face. Posing as the village chief, it fed of poor passersby and soon-to-be-dead heroes, lured by the townspeople in order to save their own skin. We all know appearances can be deceiving, right? Oh, but you can’t fool a man who can’t see your appearance but the color of your soul. And even harder is to fool two of them! And why is this a hot moment? You see, there’s an older anime by the name of Dororo to Hyakkimaru (based on the same Osamu Tezuka’s manga), but this new version looks and feels way better. Even if we still remain in the shadows, this episode was very revealing in a lot of aspects, from presenting us with the old man who saved the doomed baby, to learning the hero’s name, to understanding more about how Hyakkimaru interacts with the environment and the demons… and let’s not forget a reference to Dororo’s mother. Even if you don’t know, the cogs are already in motion for an awesome story, and we can’t but hope for an unforgettable adventure!

The fight of the season?

Lizzy Nyanko
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="Crunchyroll" url="http://www.crunchyroll.com/my-hero-academia" ]

After receiving their exam results, and Bakugo finding out he failed, he calls out Izuku for a private conversation and confronts him about having received All Might’s powers. All Bakugo wants is for Izuku to prove to him that he is worth the power of the hero they both admired as children. And so, Izuku is begrudgingly pulled into a shounen rival battle that will surely grace at least one of our future lists. During the fight, Bakugo keeps thinking of Izuku chasing him and always being weaker than him, he remembers how All Might told Bakugo he has what it takes to be a hero, and he remembers when All Might hit the nail on the head when he said “I know you’re angry because of Midoriya’s improvement”. He remembers that All Might encouraged him and told him Level 50 (meaning Bakugo) and Level 1 (Izuku) can’t improve at the same rate, thus reassuring Bakugo that he is indeed strong enough and All Might recognizes his talents. And yet.. He’s still so angry. But why? From the beginning, we’ve been wondering exactly why Kacchan hates poor little Deku so much… And after an all-out attack from his childhood friend, Deku decides to use his strength and push Kacchan away with a strong yet gentle block/shove. Deku can stand on his own now and that just pisses Kacchan more… (why are you so angry, kid!?) Izuku sees his friend on the ground after his defensive attack and reaches out to help Kacchan up. Of course, Kacchan swats his hand away wondering why he’s helping him and not fighting… why? And it finally happens, Bakugo spills his guts and faces all his issues as they come out like uncontrollable tears on a shoujo heroine’s face. “Why did I end up chasing someone who was always behind me? Why did you get strong and become acknowledged by All Might while I… ended All Might!?”. There it is! The angsty teen finally voices his emotions and we all get to understand. He feels responsible for All Might losing his powers because he was weak and got captured by the villains, thus leading to All Might losing his power and retiring. Bakugo cries and cries and all you want is to hug the poor boy. He admits to his feelings and not knowing what to do and his overall feeling of helplessness. And then, once the boys have said and heard enough, they decide to continue the fight, but it’s different this time. It’s a proper shounen rival battle! It’s exciting to see Bakugo grow out of his immature anger issues and (hopefully) backing off of Izuku. Things can only get better if these two finally become the friends they should be!

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="2019CL-23" text="" url="" ]

Golden Kamuy is one of the best anime that aired this past year, captivating us with both its weird humor and more serious moments. The series started out fairly small, introducing our main characters and their quest. Yet over time, we have come to meet many different characters, from escaped criminals to battle-hardened generals, each with their own goals. It can be overwhelming at times to remember who is fighting for the Ainu gold, but Golden Kamuy does a good job of making each character memorable enough to stand out. Traveling around the frozen and dangerous land leaves little room for error. In fact, most characters in Golden Kamuy have been toughened by this climate and the goals they have set themselves toward; so we decided to highlight a few of the toughest characters in the series. We have chosen characters that show us strength not only in body, but in mental fortitude and spirit. These are definitely characters that you wouldn’t want to face off against, be it in combat or survival technique! Spoilers to Follow!

[ad_top2 class="mt40 mb40"]

5. Asirpa

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="GNCA-532" text="" url="" ]

Though there are a few tough women in Golden Kamuy, Asirpa is definitely the strongest! The central point in the search for gold, Asirpa was raised to be a survivalist by her father, in the hopes that she would one day lead the Ainu. She is searching to find out what really happened to her father. Though she is still young, she is mature for her age, with plenty of skills for both hunting and protecting herself. She does seem to have softened since she met Sugimoto Saichi, showing trust to more of the people they meet on their journey. Asirpa lost her mother at a young age and has lost her father twice now, but she remains strong and continues pushing on to the goal.

4. Ushiyama Tatsuma

Ushiyama seems like he could be a gentleman, especially with the suits that he usually wears, but beneath his appearance lays the ferocious criminal known as Ushiyama the Undefeated! He has teamed up with Toshizou Hijikata in his search for the gold, lending his serious and pragmatic advice to the group. His two vices are women and fighting, the things that he enjoys above all else. Ushiyama can be deadly and serious, but he can also show a caring and more gentlemanly side, particularly when it comes to Asirpa. Asirpa is quite fond of Ushiyama after she befriended him while drinking one night, and she affectionately calls him “Chinpo-sensei.” Ushiyama has excessive physical strength, having trained in Judo for many years before he was sent to Abashiri Prison. His skull is also incredibly thick, especially in the center of his forehead – yet his thoughtful approach is surprising, given the strength he possesses.

3. Tokushirou Tsurumi

The main villain of Golden Kamuy, Lieutenant Tsurumi is a terrifying, twisted man whose partial loss of a brain seems to have made him more vicious than the average soldier! Like Sugimoto and Hijikata, Tsurumi is out to find the Ainu gold and musters up everything he can to get ahead in this race to riches. He is not only violent and psychotic but also manipulative, moving others to his side with his charismatic personality. You might argue that Lieutenant Tsurumi is more crazed than tough, but he has led the 7th Division through much in the time that he has commanded them, and despite losing part of his brain he is still fighting on!

2. Sugimoto Saichi

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="http://www.crunchyroll.com/golden-kamuy/episode-1-wenkamuy-769171" ]

Sugimoto is the main protagonist of Golden Kamuy, and he certainly lives up to his title of “Immortal Sugimoto!” Sugimoto was one of the soldiers who lived through the Russo-Japanese War, and he has both emotional and physical scars still from that battle. Despite the nightmares and trauma he lives with from the war, he is a survivor fighting to live in every situation, especially when the odds are stacked against him. He does have a kind side as well, caring for Asirpa and promising his friend to protect his family as best as he could. Sugimoto is easily one of the toughest characters in Golden Kamuy, partially because we understand just what all he has been through.

1. Ogata Hyakunosuke

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="http://www.crunchyroll.com/golden-kamuy/episode-10-fellow-traveler-769189" ]

The quiet dark horse for much of the series, Ogata is nonetheless a force to be reckoned with, especially when he has his sniper in hand! Nicknamed “the Wildcat,” he is a proud, ruthless man, seeking only to achieve his own goals and only helping others when it can benefit him in some way. Abandoned by his father, Ogata killed his own mother simply to observe whether his father would return to her funeral, and then murders his half-brother in battle out of curiosity as well. Unpredictable and unfeeling, Ogata has managed to survive thanks to his own intelligence and strength in combat—and though we may not always be enthused by his actions, we have to admit that he is one tough character!

Final Thoughts

Golden Kamuy is full of strong and interesting characters, and the ones we have included here are some of the toughest around! From their strength to their survival instincts, we are sure that these characters could survive any situation thrown at them using their different skills. Who is your favorite Golden Kamuy character? Let us know in the comments below!

Kishuku Gakkou no Juliet Preview (No Spoilers)

Kishuku Gakko no Kuloet takes place at Dahlia Academy Boarding School where a war wages on between the Black Dogs and White Cats. Despite the long-running rivalry between the groups, the leaders of the first year groups find themselves in an awkward situation. Juliet Persia, leader of the White Cats, and Romeo Inuzuka, leader of the Black Dogs, have fallen in love with each other. Unfortunately for them, they cannot express their love due to the ongoing feud between the two groups. Inuzuka and Persia continue to live out their lives as leaders of the warring factions, but for how long can they keep their budding romance a secret?

Hasuki Komai Highlights (Spoilers Beyond This Point)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="GNXA-2173" text="" url="" ]

1. Undying Loyalty

Despite finding herself with a bad case of unrequited love, Hasuki remains loyal to and the Black Doggies and Inuzuka. Hasuki is willing to keep the relationship a secret and is willing to support Inuzuka even though she knows he will never reciprocate her feelings. Although the situation Hasuki finds herself in is terrible and heartbreaking for her, it makes her a much better character for us to root for.

2. Fanged Smile

Hasuki's fanged smile is such a small and insignificant part of her overall character, but it is also one of her best aspects. The fang is so simple, but it adds so much and raises her overall cuteness. Whether she is having fun and teasing friends or in the midst of battle against the White Cats, you will find Hasuki's fang poking out.

3. Smart and Caring

Hasuki has the second highest grades amongst the first years only behind Juliet. Hasuki takes it upon herself to tutor the underperforming members of the Black Dogs. Despite only tutoring the members so she could impress Inuzuka, Hasuki really cares for the members of the Black Dogs and is willing to do anything for them.

4. Teacher Hasuki

During the study sessions for the poorly performing Black Dogs, Hasuki dresses like a teacher. Hasuki puts on a pair of glasses and a suit to give off a more serious vibe and is ready to discipline her misbehaving pupils whenever necessary. This change is unlike anything seen with Hasuki’s usual happy and upbeat self. The new outfit is quite titillating and makes for another great reason to love Hasuki.

5. Happy-Go-Lucky

When she isn't fighting against the White Cats or tutoring her classmates, Hasuki is a fun loving girl that seeks out fun wherever she can have it. Hasuki is always seen smiling and is often found hanging out with her friends. She approaches life in a less than serious manner and is always upbeat and ready to enjoy life to the fullest.

Final Thoughts

Hasuki is one of the best characters from Kishuku Gakkou no Juliet and is one of the characters you can easily empathize with. With so many tragic events happening for her, we can only hope Hasuki is able to find happiness in the future. What do you think of Hasuki? What is your favorite thing about her? Makoto Shinkai’s Distance in Byousoku 5 Centimeter (5 Centimeters per Second)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="UPCH-80013" text="" url="" ]

Makoto Shinkai’s 5 Centimeters per Second is a film (or a trilogy of interconnected shorts, depending on your perspective) that dives deeply into the theme of distance throughout its 63-minute runtime. Takaki Tono and Akari Shinohara’s distant relationship sets the idea of distance in the viewer’s mind from the very start of the movie. We see the pair a short distance from one another but unable to reach each other as they’re separated by a train track. It’s this sort of ambiguous distance that lingers throughout the film. You would be mistaken in seeing distance as solely a physical measurement in this case because the concept of distance is played with, subverted, and even self-contradicting at times. As we mentioned just above, physical distance plays a significant part in 5 Centimeters per Second, especially in the first story; however, we come to realize that even when characters are within touching distance, they can still be far apart, and even when characters are so far apart, they can be close in ways that go beyond physical contact.

Physical Distance

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="http://www.crunchyroll.com/5-centimeters-per-second/5-centimeters-per-second-5-centimeters-per-second-subtitled-732501" ]

The first story in 5 Centimeters per Second, Cherry Blossom, highlights the physical distance between Takaki and Akari. They live far apart and can only communicate via letters and occasional trips to each other’s cities. Unfortunately, Takaki must move to the other side of the country and that ends any chances the two characters have of seeing each other with any frequency. Takaki chooses to visit Akari one final time before his departure but finds that the universe is working against him with bad weather and train delays pushing his fateful meeting with Akari further and further away. This is distance at its most blunt and straightforward in 5 Centimeters per Second. Unfortunately, even when Takaki arrives and is pleased to see Akari waited for him after all the hours-long delays, there’s a bittersweet feeling during their reunion. Takaki realizes that this is the last time they will ever be together again, even as they confess their love for one another and spend a night together. Their closest moment, where they kiss, marks the beginning of their increasing distance.

Together but Far Apart

[sourceLink asin="B003MUUSWK" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]

5 Centimeters per Second’s second story stars a girl named Kaede Sumida who laments about her inability to figure out her future or confess her love for Takaki. Kaede finds endless ways to spend time with Takaki, but although Takaki is nice to her, it’s obvious that his mind and heart are in another place. Takaki seems like he’s always thinking about someone else, that someone being Akari. Despite being close together, there’s an insurmountable distance that Kaede notices will prevent her from ever confessing her love for Takaki. This relationship is sharply contrasted with a space shuttle that is being launched into the sky. The immense physical distance between the space shuttle and its destination somehow seems far shorter and reachable than the one between Takaki and Kaede. It’s hard to tell whether Kaede will do better than Takaki in moving forward because she believes she will love Takaki forever and concludes the story by crying

Far Apart but Together

The final story refocuses on Takaki and his continued inability to move on from Akari. Although he has a girlfriend and a successful career, he still longs for Akari and that has hindered his ability to enjoy his life. Coincidentally enough, Takaki has a breakdown at just about the same time that Akari is about to move to Tokyo to get married. Takaki quits his job and ends his relationship with his girlfriend when he starts having a dream that is mirrored by Akari. Although they have not seen each other in years and have been apart physically since then, this is the closest Takaki has been with someone since the night of their fated kiss. Even with their distance, they share an experience and a dream that few people can hope to ever share with another person. The story concludes with the two characters in the same place where they started, separated by train tracks. For once, the train tracks seem irrelevant and so does Akari’s disappearance after the trains have finished crossing. There’s a semblance of tranquility and satisfaction in Takaki’s face that seems to indicate he may be willing to move on now.

Final Thoughts

[sourceLink asin="B00TE9KL9I" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]

Makoto Shinkai’s 5 Centimeters per Second points towards distance being entirely irrelevant. Characters who are together can be further apart emotionally and mentally than the distance between the Earth and any distant planet, while characters who are far apart can be connected emotionally and mentally in ways that make you think they share the same mind. Although Takaki and Akari will not end up together, the story feels more bittersweet than it does tragic and we still feel that while they may have moved on, they have left a piece of themselves in each other that will always keep them close at heart.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse made waves in the fall of 2018 by managing to surmount expectations and rise above superhero (and Spider-Man) fatigue to deliver a movie that is visually unlike any other. It featured the debut of many comic book versions of Spider-Man, including the popular Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen, and told the story of a boy overcoming the challenges of inheriting a mantle and finding your place in the world. Honey’s Anime not only found two anime that reflected the theme of inheriting a powerful name but also features super-powered characters battling it out in visually great fights. If you found yourself wanting more of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, then here are two anime may scratch that itch until the inevitable sequel.

Liked Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse? Watch Boku no Hero Academia the Movie: Futari no Hero (My Hero Academia: Two Heroes)!

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="NEOBK-2065459" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes="1" aired="August 2018" post_id=""]

My Hero Academia: Two Heroes is the first movie released from the world of My Hero Academia. Class 1-A, some of the top superhero students in the world, find themselves making their way to I-Island, a manmade island where the smartest scientists and top heroes are gathering for an exposition on all things related to superhero tools and powers. Things quickly go awry when a supervillain hijacks the building where the exposition is held and almost everyone is trapped except the Class 1-A students. It’ll take these students and the quirkless, but brilliant, daughter of a top scientist to stop the villain’s plans.

Major Similarities Between Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Boku no Hero Academia the Movie: Futari no Hero (My Hero Academia: Two Heroes)

1. Super Heroes

My Hero Academia borrows a ton from American superhero comic books, particularly with All Might, a character who will remind you of Captain America. If you wanted more young superheroes like Miles Morales, then you won’t find a better choice than My Hero Academia: Two Heroes.

2. Inheriting a Title

Izuku Midoriya, the main character, must rise to the occasion of becoming the new #1 hero after inheriting All Might’s powers and considering that All Might is losing his own ability to use them. It’s a direct mirror of Miles Morales having to become his world’s Spider-Man after Peter Parker’s own death at the hands of Kingpin.

3. Team-Up

One of the best parts of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was that it didn’t just feature Miles Morales’ Spider-Man but also several other different versions of him from other parallel universes to make for a lot of fun team-up moments. My Hero Academia: Two Heroes brings Izuku’s class in tow and we get to see the top students as well as Izuku and All Might pair up in some similarly fun fights.

Liked Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse? Watch Boruto: Naruto Next Generations!

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="ANZB-14501" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes="87+" aired="April 2017 – Ongoing" post_id=""]

Boruto, the son of the Leaf village’s Hokage and famous war hero Naruto, has a lot to live up to. Having gotten the privilege of growing around a family, even if it’s a family that can be distant, Boruto has the gifts and flaws of his father magnified. He must learn to mature quickly much in the way his father did because the peace that Naruto brought over the ninja world is decaying under the assault of hidden enemies.

Major Similarities Between Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Boruto: Naruto Next Generations

1. A New Hero and A New Story

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse takes pleasure in depicting each Spider-Man highlighting that this was their narrative until we come to accept that this is, in fact, Miles Morales’ narrative near the end as he becomes New York’s new protector. Boruto starts off this series by pointing out that although this was once Naruto’s story, this is now his story and it’ll be a different one than his father’s, one with him as the hero.

2. Amazing Animation

As a 2D and 3D hybrid, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is one of the most visually unique movies out there and that’s part of what made it such a special experience. Boruto: Naruto Next Generation’s episode 65 was a similar visual extravaganza as it gathered a wide variety of animators to produce some of the best fight sequences you’ll ever see.

Final Thoughts

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="NEOIMP-16340" text="" url="" ]
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was a terrific coming-of-age superhero film that provided a brilliant story with amazing sights. Both My Hero Academia: Two Heroes and Boruto: Naruto Next Generations will fill that coming-of-age itch with stories about heroes having to take up the weight of the world on their shoulders at a young age. What other anime does Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse reminds you of? We definitely didn’t get enough of it and we’re sure others would love to check out more anime like it, so don’t hesitate to let us know in the comments down below.

5 Best Dressed Characters in JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="WHV-1000540244" text="" url="" ]

Hirohiko Araki is well known for loving Western music, so much so that most of his characters’ names (and sometimes designs) are taken from bands or songs. But he also has a significant interest in avant-garde fashion and dresses JoJo characters in outfits that stand out even in the eccentric world of anime. Today, we’re going to take a closer look at the top 5 best-dressed characters in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. These confident men and women effortlessly kick ass while clad in the most creative and stylish outfits that Araki’s unique fashion sense has produced—with hardly a wrinkle or torn hem in sight after battle.

[ad_top2 class="mt40 mb40"]

5. Yoshikage Kira

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B00BY0O34O" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]

ZZ Top was right; girls go crazy for a sharp-dressed man. Or at least the sharp-dressed man (modeled after David Bowie’s “Thin White Duke” character) goes crazy for them. Yoshikage Kira is a serial killer who discreetly murders women and carries around their hands to use as his “girlfriends”, but he’s so difficult to catch because he goes out of his way to look as professional and untouchable as possible. He wears perfectly tailored lilac purple suits as both himself and his alter ego Kosaku Kawajiri, as well as a subtle but incredibly stylish tie with a pattern based on his stand Killer Queen. A luxury company even manufactured the tie for sale in real life! It’s just a tiny reminder that, underneath his polished exterior, Kira is a dangerous psychopath who can’t be trusted.

4. Rohan Kishibe

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B01E8RM972" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]

Also from Diamond is Unbreakable, but on the complete opposite of the style spectrum, perches renowned mangaka Rohan Kishibe. Instead of slick suits, this eccentric author prefers androgynous streetwear with an emphasis on baggy pants, pen nib motifs, pastel colors, and slits that expose skin. Most JoJo characters only wear one or two outfits throughout the series, but Rohan has the distinction of appearing in a new and wacky ensemble just about every time he shows up onscreen. It really emphasizes his haughty personality and almost inhuman artistic ability —we may not understand every fashion choice he makes, but his rock-solid confidence makes any outfit look like he was born to wear it.

[ad_middle]

3. Trish Una

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B00BZ136YK" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]

Vento Aureo features some of the most fabulous and distinctive fashions of the entire series, mostly worn by the male mobsters of Passione. But we think that Trish, the only major female character in the part, outshines them with her simple elegance that epitomizes Italian style. Trish’s main outfit consists of a minimalist black crop top that hugs her body with spiraling straps, plus a jeweled collar piece and a color block maxi skirt with a long slit. The alternating math symbol pattern reminds us of Mondo Guerra’s signature plus symbol design, which just goes to show that JoJo and high fashion have more in common than you might think!

2. Jotaro Kujo

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B00IXGOF7M" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]

A long coat with a high collar, gold details, and a ripped cap that seems to blend with the back of his hair. That’s Jotaro Kujo’s preferred outfit, and it’s one that he never deviates from in his appearances across parts 3 through 6. But with interesting variations on the same silhouette and Jotaro’s constant stoic swagger, he’s always the best-dressed person in the room. His iconic part 3 design is undeniably ‘80s, with a Jheri curl in his hair and a Japanese delinquent look rivaled only by Josuke, but it still holds up to this day for its strong but simple style. We also love his various white outfits in parts 4 and 5, particularly when they feature elements like the golden dolphin heart that show little aspects of his personality. And we can’t forget his loud purple ensemble from part 6, which would look ridiculous on anyone else, but our boy Jotaro looks fly AF in those snakeskin pants even at age 40.

1. Lisa Lisa

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="https://www.crunchyroll.com/jojos-bizarre-adventure/episode-21-a-hundred-against-two-652121" ]

Even in the sexist atmosphere of the 1930s, hamon master Lisa Lisa commands respect from her burly male students with an untouchable confidence that says without words how they’ll never be able to match her skill. Her clothes underscore this impression, featuring a mixture of ‘30s and ‘80s designs that look like they were custom-made just for her. Lisa Lisa’s most iconic outfit shows off her 5’9” figure beautifully with black stockings, stiletto heels, a short romper-like dress, and her hamon-conducting scarf. It also goes well with the Super Aja necklace and her aviator sunglasses. More than anyone else in the series, Lisa Lisa combines the best aspects of a fashion model and a badass fighter together to make one complete package.

Final Thoughts

It’s hard to find a character without a distinctive outfit in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure – whether the look succeeds or not, you’ll always recognize it as that signature Araki style. These five characters stand out to us as the most fashionable, but just about everyone in this series looks like they could’ve come off a runway somewhere. What did you think of our list? Who do you think is the best dressed JoJo character? Let us know in the comments, and thanks so much for reading!
