5. The Truth Behind Grace Field House

The Promised Neverland hits the ground running in the very first chapter. At first, we see that Grace Field House is almost a paradise for orphaned children. But when the young Connie got adopted and Emma and Norman tried to give her plush bunny back, they found that Connie wasn't adopted at all, but killed by demons to be sold as meat. To make matters worse, their beloved Mom was part of the deal and only raised them like cattle. The scene, the music, and the way in which the demon’s eyes move around as they think they heard a noise made by the children make this scene an unforgettable one, and a perfect way to leave us all wanting for more.

4. Norman Says Goodbye

When Mom informs them that Norman's shipping date has been decided, we all assumed that it would mean a change of plans so that Norman would have to escape alone first. Even Emma and Ray seemed to think this was the best solution for the problem. So when Norman came back, we can't blame you for yelling at the screen. When he finally says goodbye and Emma still tries to make him run, it's a scene that kept us all at the edge of our seats, especially as Mom threatens Emma if she makes a bigger scene. But what makes the scene really memorable is how calm Norman is. We know he is afraid to die, we saw him have a breakdown before. But when the time came, he faced his destiny with a composed demeanor not many grown-ups would have. And he is only 11 years old.

3. Mom Breaks Emma’s Leg

This scene is a double kick to the heart. While we have known for a while that Mom sees Emma and the children as cattle and she has been ominously looking at them for a while, it's not until Emma and Norman are near the outer wall when she lets her mask go. "Let us talk honestly" she says, and introduces herself. The children aren't cowed at first since Isabella is trying to convince them to stay because, for her, fake smiles are good enough. So when she realizes that Emma and Norman are still planning to escape, she cleanly and without warning breaks Emma's leg to force them both to stay. The fact that she never stops smiling makes it all even more chilling.

2. Sister Krone’s Last Stand

Sister Krone was dealt a losing hand from the moment she was born. Despite all her attempts at becoming a Mother herself so that she could live longer than anyone, she was always second best and had only become an assistant. And then, when she thought she had all the cards needed to beat Isabella, she discovered that it was all for naught as their superiors knew that the children were planning to escape and left Isabella to deal with the problem. And yet, as she realized she was going to be killed, she didn’t go gently. She was ready to fight against the demons, and before she left the house, she left the kids two gifts: a mysterious pen and a way to get the trackers out. Sister Krone may have died, but she managed to get one last laugh at her masters.

1. Ray’s Decision to Burn Himself

Out of the main trio, Ray always seemed to be the calmest one. He knew the secret for the longest time and, thus, had been planning how to escape for at least five years before Norman and Emma got the idea to run away. Even knowing that, the moment when he pours gasoline on himself in order to distract Mother enough to make sure everyone escapes is chilling. We get to see him lose his cool and yell at Emma how he is going to show everyone that he is not cattle, that he will choose how and when he dies as his expression turns more manic… and then he lights the match. In a series full of shocking twists, it’s hard to get more shocking than this.

The Promised Neverland has caught the world by surprise. The story of a group of orphans who, after being told all their lives that the world outside the gates of their home is dangerous and hostile to humans, discover that the biggest threat to their survival is right there with them: Their house is nothing but a glorified farm where they’re the cattle being raised to be sacrificed as meat for demons. But before the anime, there was an amazing manga and now is a great time to talk about some of the differences between the two. While the most obvious difference is that the manga continues from where the anime left off, don't worry, we won’t talk about what happens behind the wall. But if you haven’t finished the anime, be warned that there will be spoilers for it below.

The Children Have a Longer Time to Plan Before Sister Krone Arrives

In the anime, we barely have time to adjust to the reality that the children are cattle and the kids manage to recruit Ray with the idea of saving all the 37 orphans in Mom Isabella's care when we're presented with a new obstacle in the form of Sister Krone and a new baby. However, the manga is a bit more paced, and so Sister Krone doesn't make her appearance until chapter 5, giving Emma and Norman more time to start planning as well as to realize exactly how little they know about the world outside. Thanks to this, the readers get to understand the world where the kids live a bit better, which seems to have been the same as ours until something happened in 2015. There’s more attention given to the trackers in the manga too, as Ray posits that they really don’t know how much technology had advanced past the books they have in the library.

Sister Krone Has No Doll with Her and She Monologues Less

Speaking of Sister Krone, she is as terrifying as she is in the anime but in a different way. Unlike her animated version, she doesn’t have a doll to bounce her thoughts off of, and more importantly, she is not given to monologue and show her emotions outwardly. Yes, we get to see all her plans and weird faces, just as in the anime, but they’re all inside her head. The manga makes it clear that her odd behavior is only limited to when she chases the kids in the game of tag, and a little later as she’s looking for evidence to show that Isabella has lost control of her house. She also spends a bit longer in the house but ends up in the same place as in the anime: betrayed by the system she thought she could trust and leaving behind the seeds for the children to succeed.

There’s More Build up to the Final Escape

Because the manga dedicates 37 chapters to the first arc, as opposed to the 12 episodes that the anime had for their first season, everything has more time to develop. In particular, we get to see and feel the months between Norman’s early shipment and Ray’s birthday and how both Ray and Emma seemed defeated. The escape itself gets almost 4 chapters, so the twists are more spaced: We get to believe that Ray immolated himself for a bit longer and Emma’s act of desperation to distract Mom is away from the flames, making her tears feel more real and fool some readers into believing that Ray had immolated himself. While the anime did an excellent job adapting the escape, the long chapters that the manga took to narrate the same events helped to showcase every child's contribution better.

Mom Doesn’t Reach Emma and the Kids in Time to See Them Go.

Perhaps the biggest change between the anime and the first arc of the manga is how the escape ends. In both versions, Ray is confronted by Norman's image teasing him about how the younger kids were not a burden and the escape is cut with scenes of Mom's past as she races to catch them. But unlike the anime, where she reaches the group just as Emma is the last to run away, in the manga, she arrives when the children are already hidden in the forest and doesn't get to see them. This makes her goodbye, as she returns to the children that were four and under and stayed at the house, a bit more heart-wrenching. It wasn’t Emma’s steely gaze what made Mom realize it would’ve been nice if she could have loved her kid, it was the understanding that, unlike her, Emma and her siblings were ready to jump into the unknown.

The first season of The Promised Neverland was a fun rollercoaster ride that ended in an optimistic note as the children run to their freedom. However, the manga has continued long past that, and at 127 chapters, it’s still ongoing. Toga…you are easily one of the cutest girls in Boku no Hero Academia, but after chapter 226, we see a different side of you. This week’s chapter was all about Chitose versus Toga in one hell of a battle. While Toga was basically shut down constantly by the wannabe reporter superstar, Toga continued to show what her past was like. We learned that Toga, from an early age, wasn’t as normal as the public perceived her and she was suffering from a strange obsession with blood. As Toga explains it, when she falls in love with someone—or something—she feels a true connection once she slurps their blood. After our yandere confesses this, she activates her quirk and is able to change into Ochaco Uraraka, but due to her inability to use quirks from her copied body, she seems to be destined to get destroyed by Chitose’s power. Things change dramatically though when Toga levels up—figuratively, of course—and somehow gains the ability to not only look like the person she takes the form of but also use their quirk! Toga takes down Chitose by making her fly and then slam her into the ground and smiles as we all clap for our new favorite yandere. Chapter 226 of Boku no Hero Academia was flawless in our minds and now we can’t wait to see if the rest of the League of Villains will be ready to face their respected challengers! 1. Love in Different Forms

Love is different for every person obviously and we see that certainly applies to Toga. While her love might be…kind of terrifying, it shows that she wants to be seen not by normal standards but by her own. As weird and bizarre as that might be—especially for Toga—we can understand it and actually think it helps enhance Toga’s character. Though we now wonder if she is part vampire…

2. Chitose Down!

Chitose was beginning to get on our nerves for wanting a scoop so bad that she resorts to violence. As writers/journalists ourselves here at Honey’s Anime, we never endorse violence as a means to an end. That’s why when Toga activated Ochaco’s power, we smiled as Chitose was brought down a peg. The try-hard reporter is down for the count and we aren’t feeling too bad about it in the slightest.

Judgment, the next title from the acclaimed Ryu ga Gotoku Studio, releases in the West for the PlayStation 4 physically and digitally on June 25, 2019! Still haunted by the demons of his past, ex-defense-attorney-turned-private-detective Takayuki Yagami has taken on a gruesome serial murder case in Kamurocho. Search for clues, collect evidence, track down criminals, and bust some heads when Judgment launches on PS4 on June 25! Digital pre-orders are available now on the PS4 PlayStation Store.

Physical editions of Judgment include a reversible cover featuring the original Japanese cover art for the game, along with a Ryu ga Gotoku Studio sticker. Players who pre-order the digital edition of Judgment will receive a static theme featuring the game's stalwart protagonist, Takayuki Yagami, as a bonus upon checkout. Idol group Aqours from LOVE LIVE! SUNSHINE!! will take over The Novo in downtown Los Angeles for two performances on July 5th and 6th! With their show titled LOVE LIVE! SUNSHINE!! Aqours World LoveLive! in LA ～BRAND NEW WAVE～
Aqours (pronounced “aqua”) is the school idol group formed in Uchiura, Shizuoka, for the multimedia project “Love Live! Sunshine!!” The project started in April 2015 and spread across various media including CDs, live events, magazines, and mobile apps. The first single “Kimi no Kokoro wa Kagayaiteru kai?” was released in October 2015. Season One of the TV Anime aired during the summer of 2016 followed by Season Two during the autumn of 2017. Synopsis

Now that he is a second year student, he was cleared to be a musical student, but… soon after he starts the new semester, a “new challenge” appears!! The curriculum for second year students is to support the graduates as they perform as the main cast in the “Special Graduation Performance”. Within “Shadow & Lights”, a traditional performance, there is a part called the “second year training system”. Limited to 5 students, every year one team from the second year students consisting of five members is able to perform on the stage. This is what is an honor for these musical students; achieving the ability to co-star together with the respected former leaders on stage. Yuta and his fellow 25 musical students challenge each other at the second year training system auditions for a chance at glory. The democratic nation of Patria resides on the Patrian Continent. Due to an economic discrepancy, the country has been engulfed in a civil war for a long time leading to the rise of two countries, The Northern Patria Union and the Southern Patria Alliance. The north, about to be destroyed by the south due to its inferiority, as resorted to using forbidden magic in order to defeat the south. The art created soldiers who appeared as grotesque humans and in exchange for their forms, gave them powers equivalent to the gods themselves. Thanks to their power, the long battle ended and society was ushered into an era of peace. These ‘incarnates’ as they were known, were revered as patriotic saviors of the North. Time has now passed, and the war has become nothing more than a thing of the past. Now, Incarnates, with their immense powers, are no longer revered, but instead looked at in disdain and referred to simply as ‘beasts.’ Hank is a former commander of Incarnates, traveling to hunt down a fellow Incernate and former war buddy who has lost his humanity, becoming just a mere ‘beast’. That is when Nancy Shaal Bancroft comes charging in and meets Hank, the Incarnate she has set out to kill for killing her father. After learning the truth behind the death of her own father, she decides to join Hank in his journey. It is then that she finally learns the real reason as to why their fight must continue. At the same time, Hank is searching for the existence of a man who is said to turn Incarnates back into humans. Where will the road of traveler Hank, an Incarnate who must carry the sins of killing his own kind, end exactly?

Are you kidding us, Ne0;lation!? Is chapter 19—a great chapter, by the way—really the end of the series? This week’s chapter begins with the conclusion of the battle to save our viral video wannabe from her kidnappers. Daigo acts as the main distraction to allow Yuko to save Chinami but ends up leaving behind Daigo in the process. While the girls are saved by our monk from the racing arc, Daigo realizes that ne0 is actually in the office as well and has been to help his team from a literal nearby location. As the team escapes, they unleash a fake video—as the real one was destroyed—of the mayor meeting with the mafia-like villain and our team laughs as their victory is set in stone. Meanwhile Gevaudan and his henchmen—who we only see by face but don’t know by name—laugh as they feel like a challenge has finally arrived to them. As the team walks on showing they will indeed take down crime together, the final page reveals a shocking reveal...The End! Say it isn’t so, Ne0;lation. Well, despite the series possibly being over—we will keep you readers out there posted—let us discuss the pros and obvious con about this awesome and potentially series ending chapter.

Why You Should Read Ne0;lation Chapter 19

1. Our Team is Invincible

While ne0’s team might seem quite random and unusual, they sure as hell pulled off a dangerous mission without a single issue. How well they performed shows how strong the team is and how they can handle themselves individually in dangerous situations. Maybe Yuko might lack the intellect of ne0 and maybe Daigo is a bit overly reliant on his fists, but with ne0 in command, the team is sure to win in the end. There is no “I” in team after all right?

2. Our Enemy Appears!

Up until now, we’ve only seen Gevaudan and a few other members of his organization. Chapter 19 briefly shows that he has not just a few but several members and they all look to be quite...dangerous. We can only imagine a battle ensuing between ne0 and the other enemies and how that could go, but unfortunately, here is where ne0;lation chapter 19 runs into its biggest issue. When we say “issue,” by the way, we mean truly a big issue!

Why You Should Skip Ne0;lation Chapter 19

1. The End!?!?

If this is really the end of Ne0;lation, then we feel our finale was a true slap in the face. We get this epic enemy reveal, the team showing their skills and a proclamation to end all bad in Japan...then the series ends?! Maybe this isn’t the end of Ne0;lation for real, but for now...it looks like this fun series with a lot of potential has fallen to the unfortunate fate of being finished way too early.

Ne0;lation chapter 19 can be described by comparing it to a firework. There’s the big explosion of possible things to come, but then—with extreme speed—the series reveals it’s over and done with. Grave Field House was scary before, but now...now it’s a literal hell. Chapter 133 of Yakusoku no Neverland has Emma and Ray entering the house to quickly discover it’s not a normal clone of their childhood home but a twisted version straight from a waking nightmare. While the two explored, they are quickly separated and forced to endure nightmarish illusions like them becoming young again and being attacked by strange doll-like beasts. With Emma’s resilience and Ray’s quick moves, the two are reunited and learn this place is indeed the way they need to go. However, for them to reach the true mastermind of the demon world, they must enter what looks like an underground bunker and who knows what awaits down there. Chapter 133 was pretty horrific, truly making good use of Yakusoku no Neverland’s horror genre. Let’s point out our favorite moments and you can let us know if you agree or not.

1. Not The House They Knew

While Grace Field House was pretty bad—and that is being extremely generous—this place is a true house of horrors. We loved watching the panels make good use of the twisted powers of this reality as the halls bent in various ways and normal looking stuffed animals became creatures of true terror. There have been some creepy chapters of Yakusoku no Neverland, but chapter 133 easily was one of the scariest of the series.

2. Unstoppable Duo

The biggest take away from chapter 133—and something that we kind of knew all along—is that Emma and Ray are a force to be reckoned with. Even against a power unknown to them, both of our kids fought through their terror and somehow survived their first big challenge. If that was us ending up as kids, losing our weapons and being bombarded with strange stuffed animals…we’d be crying and praying we’d wake up as our ends awaited us. While we worry about the next few chapters as more horrors await them, we equally know the two will be able to triumph as long as they believe in their own skills and each other!

Final Thoughts

As far as horror goes, chapter 133 of Yakusoku no Neverland had it down without missing a beat! We loved how creepy the chapter was and loved the genuine terror we felt as Emma and Ray fought through a literal nightmare become reality. Though we now have on more blazing question on our minds. What will be the next fearful event awaiting them? We can only imagine, but that might keep us up at night and we need our beauty sleep. Death is easily one of the scariest realities we face in the real world. We all are doomed to die one day at some point, but the time until that moment occurs is unknown to most of us. In the anime world, death is also a truly relevant thing, but often, you have to wonder if anime truly handles death the way it should. When a character dies in a series and the characters react, there are times where we feel the death as if it was someone we really loved and then there are other times where the anime makes death seem almost comical. Today, we here at Honey’s Anime decide to tackle a very interesting—and slightly morbid—topic. Does Anime Handle Death Well?

The Raw Emotion of Loss

Just like in real life, losing a loved one can be one of the hardest things to ever experience. You know that person has moved on from this world, but that doesn’t always act as a potion to just be okay with it. In the anime landscape, death can hurt just as much when you witness a character like Jiraiya from Naruto die off or see L from Death Note perish when you felt they were immortal. When anime handles death realistically, it can almost be akin to real-life loss and that is when anime shows its potential for being a truly engaging medium.

For Story Not Drama

In many series—both anime and even western shows—death is used not as a story element but as a dramatic slap in the face. Take for example Dragon Ball Z—which will be mentioned again—where a character like Krillin dies. While people were obviously sad about our small warrior monk passing away, it was done to progress the story and make Goku stronger and ultimately allowing him to reach Super Saiyan status. Another good example is in Sword Art Online—yes Sword Art Online—where a character dies and you realize it makes the story feel scarier as these characters aren’t just in a virtual world but trapped in one with real world consequences. Death being done for the story is what makes death a stronger element and one that feels less cruel and more genuine.

Speaking of Dragon Ball Z

While Dragon Ball Z has had some huge dramatic death moments, it also had some that truly just come across as groan worthy. With the ability to use the seven Dragon Balls, death holds no value and comes across as a setback not as a true concern. When death in Dragon Ball Z occurs, you feel it almost insults the meaning of death being the end of life...instead death is just going to be for a year then they can be resurrected as if nothing happened.

Shock Value City

A lot of horror anime tend to rely on death not as a crying moment but as pure shock value. You see a character die in Higurashi no Naku Koro ni and you aren’t moved to tears but are just shocked by their twisted death. Ousama Game is another where death comes often at ridiculous times and really only aims to deliver a GOTCHA moment on screen. When death shows up in anime like this, we realize how little it actually does to try and be seen as a serious manner.
