About AVerMedia

AVerMedia is a company that specializes in video and sound for the entertainment/technology industry and has since focused their efforts on video gaming and how to amplify the immersion for those looking for the full experience when gaming. Anything from microphones, headphones, soundcards, monitors, tablets, and much more, AVerMedia has excelled in many fields of tech that their efforts are surely being noticed further with their line of streaming products for content creators on Twitch, Mixer, YouTube, etc. In addition to AVerMedia’s fine products, they have partnered with several other companies to provide a more robust experience when using their products for content creators. For example, they’ve worked with CyberLink PowerDirect in providing a free full version of the editing software/program to use for creating your content and having that professional and entertaining look—unfortunately, the CyberPower Director program does not come with the Mini. They’ve also teamed up with ReStream.io to provide a way to stream on multiple platforms simultaneously, so you can maximize your efforts in promoting your brand. This is a good way to find out which platform is right for you based on the responses to your content whether you are streaming live or uploading.

What You Can Do

With the Live Gamer Mini, you can make some quick edits within the streaming program as well and you can also share clips or full streams to your social media account for quick sharing with friends or viewers! There are some other features in the program that are not necessarily compatible with the Live Gamer Mini as it is more for the Live Gamer Portable, as the example images used in the program itself are, in fact, the Live Gamer Portable. But this doesn’t take away any experience towards the Live Gamer Mini. It’s still the quality streaming device you wanted.

Video Quality

The resolution of the video the Live Gamer Mini produces is 1920x1080p at 60fps. This is just a small step down from the Live Gamer Ultra’s 4K resolution, which actually looks the same as the Live Gamer Mini. If you want that 4K, though, then we suggest getting the Live Gamer Ultra device which pushes out that 4K quality. Just make sure you have a 4K TV otherwise it will be a waste. Although, if you want to provide this for your viewers more than yourself, then by all means! Just make sure you meet the minimum spec requirements at the very least in order for your viewers to appreciate the 4K streams! Other than that, the Mini is perfect for you! We tested out the Live Gamer Mini on our PC which the specs were:

  • Intel i5 processor
  • 16GB Ram
  • NVidia EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
We also have some video from Twitch that shows the quality of the stream with a game that has a pretty high demand for RAM and GPU, Destiny 2, and it looks fantastic. You can use the RECentral program to toggle between optimization settings for your streams which decreases or increases the quality of your streams depending on your internet download and upload speeds, RAM, Processor, and GPU usage. You have Optimal, Good, and Normal stream settings to choose from and depending on what you use, it will adjust the program automatically to reduce the CPU usage and RAM of your PC.

Testing the AVerMedia Live Gamer Mini | Optimal | 60 FPS | 1080p

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/421399829

Recording

The good thing about the Live Gamer Mini is it has the ability to record your streams as a backup if you are using a 3rd party program for streaming. This allows you to upload your edited content manually if you want to at a later time. All with super low to no CPU usage.

The Design

The Live Gamer Mini is about ⅓ less the size of the Live Gamer Ultra device from AVerMedia and is also just as quiet if not, quitter. The Live Gamer Ultra is a bit noisy but that is because it has a built-in mini fan to help with the heating of the device when producing that beautiful resolution, the Mini is a slight step-down, as mentioned at the beginning of this review, but still packs just about the same amount of power. The one thing that is different from the Mini and the Ultra, besides the 4K resolution, is the power cord for the device. The cord for the Mini is a USB Android connector as opposed to the USB-C connection required for the Ultra 4K and other fully equipped devices from AVerMedia. This is a clear sign that the quality may not be as great when you go down from a USB-C to a USB Android connector, BUT, and again, this does not take away from your quality streaming experience.

Final Thoughts

The Live Gamer Mini does not disappoint and if you are barely getting into the streaming scene, then this is the perfect product for you. It has a full HD zero-lag pass-through so you can enjoy your games to the fullest with perfect quality video from such a small yet powerful device. It is super easy to setup and stream on your laptop or desktop, which ever you prefer. With that, we thank you for tuning in to read this unboxing review. If you have any questions or comments, make sure to sound of in the comments below!

Winter Polaris

Winter Polaris is the latest title from Stage-nana, and tells two intertwined stories. In one story, a man is living in Tokyo as a mysterious disease rapidly spreads across the world. People with the disease seem to suddenly die and then disappear into thin air, leaving behind only their clothing. As the days and months go by, the man seems to left behind in a world empty of all humans. Until one winter day, he meets a strange girl wearing goth-loli clothing named Tsubaki who claims to be an immortal. The other story is set on the sunny beaches of a small island. A young courier named Elena rescues a young woman drifting in the ocean after a storm. The woman, Mary, is clutching a glass bottle made with technology neither recognize. That mystery sets the two off on a sea journey to the ends of the Earth in search of the people who created the bottle.

Sanarara R

Developer: Nekoneko Soft It was something that could've happened to anyone... A somewhat mysterious story... One day, I was approached by a girl I didn't recognize. She told me that she could grant any wish I desired but... This unreliable girl can do that? While I stood in disbelief, she began to explain how it worked. After the explanation, while I didn't believe it all, I'll admit that she was different from others. Sanarara R a compilation of seven interconnected stories where the characters explore how their lives would change if they were allowed a chance to have their one deepest wish granted. Sanarara R Opening

How to Raise a Wolf Girl

Kousaka Shuuji is a student who lives. in the countryside. One day, he finds a mysterious girl in the mountains but what made her truly mysterious was that she had animal ears and a tail as well. More than ten years ago, the girl was "spirited away" in the mountains and was a shell of her former self. This mysterious girl, Iroha, didn't know how she lived her life prior to that. Having forgotten how to converse and lacking in human common sense, she's a handful for Shuuji but he finds himself enamored by her innocence. However, the world is not always a friendly place and her lost time will never be restored. Alongside the present situation Iroha is put in, an uncertain future awaits Iroha. Faced with this situation, one thought immediately surfaces in Shuuji's mind. Why is it I wonder? This feeling of wanting to protect you... Like the thawing of the winter cold, time that was once frozen has begun to move. How to Raise a Wolf Girl Opening Video (JPN Ver.)

Unleash your mercenary army

Who it Caters to

There is a plethora of tactical RPGs on mobile devices and that can sometimes make it difficult to find which one to sink your time into. While all of these games are free, that doesn’t mean you’re going to want to just download a dozen games and fill your phone up with possibly horrible RPG titles. Thankfully, we here at Honey’s Anime have the time and phone space—lots of phone space—to download these games and tell you how they are. Today we’re looking at Brown Dust, which was originally a popular tactic-based RPG that wasn’t available internationally until recently. How is Brown Dust and was it deserving of an international release? If you want to find out, read below our full review as we dig into this intriguing anime themed RPG.

What to Expect

Brown Dust tasks players with hiring various mercenaries to defeat opposing armies they have been contracted to defeat. You control an up-and-coming tactician who has the charisma and skill to lead a band of mercs towards victory. Choose your warriors and place them on a tactical field to best suit their abilities and skills. Watch your placement tactics allow your team to defeat various armies with either supreme ease or suffer terrible defeat. Defeat bosses to recruit them to your team and play—or pay—for chances at other mercenaries just waiting for the right leader!
[ad_top2 class="mt40 mb40"]

Story

After a terrible event led to an empire being razed, the world suffered in a multitude of ways. An odd eclipse took over the land allowing beasts to arise and scare the populous. Armies under various leaders began to form a war seemed to be on the verge of breaking out. You are a leader who might be the only means of bringing an end to this terrible cataclysm. Gather the strongest mercenaries across the globe and harness their powers and skills. With your tactical abilities, you will show that no army big or small can stand against your might!

Gameplay

A lot of times we here at Honey’s Anime will see an ad for a mobile game and be semi-intrigued but not curious enough to download it. One of our readers out there—we do read comments—commented on a review and told us they enjoyed a mobile game called Brown Dust. We had seen Brown Dust numerous times as in-game ads for other titles, but only when we heard it might be good did we decide to take a chance and download it. Was Brown Dust worthy of a download? Find out with us in our review of Brown Dust for Android devices! First off, Brown Dust is a free tactics-based RPG for both Android and iOS. Players must take control of bunch of mercenaries and place them into battle to fight off various enemies. Right off the bat, you’ll notice Brown Dust isn’t trying to be a Final Fantasy Tactics game or even a Fire Emblem Heroes title. Instead, Brown Dust aims to deliver a bite sized tactics title and that both works and also hurts it at the same time. Let’s first talk about the pros and then we’ll move into the cons. Brown Dust works best when it allows players to basically just watch as their make-shift army unleashes attacks on their enemies in a turn-based affair. After players choose their units and place them down, the game goes on its own with very little control in the player’s hands. Though you’d be wrong to think that means every battle will be a simple one. Brown Dust incorporates some intriguing RPG elements by having mercenaries use team attacks if their compatible with one another and even allows players to create unique skills by choosing the right classes on the field. For example, choosing shield warriors and placing them up front means they will protect the warriors behind them as well as attack enemies with their shield strikes. Having multiple mages on a team allows them to combo their magic together and unleash stronger spells or even bolster each other’s abilities. As you get further into Brown Dust and unlock more units, you’ll quickly see there are an absurd amount of combat settings you can tweak all by having the right units on the field at any given time. Now you might be asking, how do you unlock new units for your growing army? The answer to that comes in two forms. One way you can unlock new mercenaries is by advancing the story and gathering troops from story events like some boss fights. For better units though you’ll utilize Brown Dust’s gatcha themes. Gathering scrolls via in-game events and/or using real world currency will allow you to summon new units in either singular affairs or mass summons, just like Fate/ Grand Order. The gatcha elements in Brown Dust aren’t too bad thankfully. Often, we got some high 5 star ranked heroes just by using scrolls we obtained via events and that was a nice surprise in comparison to the usually harder gatcha games that favor real world currency. After the first few hours we had several high ranked mercenaries and had a team of strong warriors that kicked butt and gave us units we could rely on in some of the harder battles. Our last positive of Brown Dust comes in the form of the amazing art. We adore the character models/portraits in Brown Dust as they have a strong amount of detail. Even the small battle sprites—which are the main focus of battle—explode with detail and art. When combat begins, it’s amazing to see your little troops unleash hell on your enemy with spear strikes, magic and a multitude of various weapons. We only wish the battles themselves with a bit more zoomed in for maximum enjoyment. Yet, even with that minor gripe we tip our hats to the amazing illustrators that clearly were inspired by anime and other video games alike. While Brown Dust is a solid experience overall, there are some elements that we felt hurt it a bit. Gameplay wise, the simple combat means often you’re just watching battles unfold and are left to barely ever hit any buttons to do anything. This doesn’t mean you can’t control combat at all, but basically, you’re just watching your placed units unleash their abilities and hope your set up works in the end. Another con to Brown Dust can be seen in the story. Brown Dust has an okay story, but it wasn’t anything that propelled us forward while playing. We often didn’t care about interactions with other characters and just wanted to dive into the next battle. That’s a bit unfortunate seeing as how some characters are genuinely interesting but written in a way that just feels formulaic.
[ad_middle class="mt40 mb40"]

Honey's Gameplay Consensus:

Brown Dust isn’t a very deep tactical-RPG but it has just enough complexity to be engaging and quite enjoyable in bursts. We loved the sprite art as well as the detail in the various character portraits. The gatcha elements were also well-done offering players a ton of ways to earn new mercenaries without always having to pay for them. Brown Dust in long sessions can be a bit repetitive and the story doesn’t really excite us as much as we’d like, but overall, this is a solid tactics title with enough pros than cons. Plus, for a free tactics RPG, Brown Dust offers those who love mobile games enough of a reason to warrant the download.

Honey's Pros:

  • Beautiful art design and character portraits
  • Simple but engaging tactical gameplay
  • Tons of various units to level up and unlock
  • Several ways to earn new characters without having to dump your money into every single roll

Honey's Cons:

  • Story can be at times a big generic
  • Wish there was just a bit more to do during combat

Honey's Final Verdict:

Brown Dust might be easily missed by many android or iOS users out there and that is a bit of a shame. While it’s not as deep as other tactics-based titles, Brown Dust offers a simple gameplay design that can be fun and engaging when the battles begin to toughen up. The fact that we didn’t need to spend tons of money to get some high-ranking mercenaries too means the gatcha elements don’t rely on just using a credit card to unlock the higher mercenaries and that is something we really appreciate. We’re looking forward to seeing even more from Brown Dust but are curious what you guys and girls are thinking about it. Have you played Brown Dust yet or plan to? Let us know in the comments below! • For her first interview, ANiUTa asked her to take us back, from her childhood up until she decided to become a voice actress. And she replied:
  • “My hometown was in the countryside of Gunma, so I grew up in a place that was rich with nature. When I was a kid, I would spend my time running around through hills and fields. I loved to play outside. But, I also had a shy side, so while I was carefree when playing in the hills, I’d suddenly get embarrassed when I was in front of other people. [laughter] I think I had the most fun when I was playing by myself.”
  • Her voice actress debut was in the 2008 TV anime Oden-kun. She says that this anime holds a lot of special memories for her.

Top 10 Female Cancer Anime Characters

[ad_top1 class="mb40"]
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="KICA-3218" text="" url="" ]

When it comes to romantic partners, Cancers have all of the desirable traits. They are loyal and sympathetic and they have a tenacity that is second to none. They are sentimental which will make them deeply attached to you and care greatly for both their friends and their family. They are typically lovers of art and theater and take pride in cooking and helping others. These incredible people are talented in and out of the house and can be incredible individuals. However, as with all zodiac signs, they have their weaknesses. Cancers can be moody and pessimistic. They also tend to be insecure and manipulative which can make for many fights among their beloved friends and family. With their strengths, Cancer is a beloved sign that anyone would delight in knowing, but if they draw on their weaknesses, Cancers can be some of the worst individuals among us. As with humans, anime characters draw on the strengths and weaknesses based on the sign that they were born under. The creators may have kept this in mind when creating the characters and brought them to life through their character development. This is part of the reason that anime is so mesmerizing. We are able to analyze the characters and find inspiration in them that we can then take and apply to our own lives. The characters listed below are the women born under the Cancer sign that best represent the traits, both positive and negative.

[ad_top2 class="mt40 mb40"]

10. Moriko Morioka from Net-juu no Susume (Recovery of an MMO Junkie)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="http://www.crunchyroll.com/recovery-of-an-mmo-junkie/episode-4-like-a-maiden-in-love-749529" ]
[information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="10" item2="Air Date" content2="October 2017 - December 2017" ]

Unlike typical Cancers, Moriko is very quiet and reserved. She is sympathetic towards others but does not like to speak much so her ability to help is limited. She is suspicious of others and has incredibly low self-esteem which makes her very insecure. Her withdrawn nature is amplified by her desire to be a NEET and adds to her seclusion. Her shy nature allows her to be on our list but puts at the bottom due to her inability to align with the tenacity of the Cancer.

9. Kagari Shiina from Steins;Gate 0

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="https://www.crunchyroll.com/steinsgate-0/episode-13-mother-goose-of-diffractive-recitativo-diffraction-mother-goose-769523" ]
[information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="23" item2="Air Date" content2="April 2018 - September 2018" ]

Kagari is a shy individual who has had a difficult hand dealt to her. After being sent back from the future as a young child, she is unsure of what action to take because of her separation from her family. Because of her experiences early in life though, Kagari is suspicious of everyone she meets but has a very friendly and shy demeanor. She is emotional and sympathetic but is very insecure in herself. Her shyness and general behavior does not match the tenacity of the typical Cancer so this puts her towards the bottom of our list.

8. Akeno Himejima from High School DxD

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="http://www.crunchyroll.com/maturity_wall?next=%2Fhigh-school-dxd%2Fepisode-22-various-three-way-deadlocks-736409%3Fskip_wall%3D1" ]
[information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="12" item2="Air Date" content2="January 2012 - March 2012" ]

Akeno is not your typical high school girl. This busty gal is a fallen angel and a demon. However, her tenacity and loyalty is matched by none. She is sympathetic and extremely emotional. She is high ranking in her court and this is accompanied by tremendous power. Armed with her skills as a demon and a fallen angel, she can defeat almost any enemy and has powerful skills in persuasion. She does not exhibit the more negative traits of a Cancer. Her weakness lies in criticism exhibited by others towards her loved ones. Her temper is not the most stable but this also lends to her innate power.

7. Hiyori Iki from Noragami (Noragami: Stray God)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="http://www.crunchyroll.com/noragami/episode-2-snow-like-725825" ]
[information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="12" item2="Air Date" content2="January 2014 - March 2014" ]

Hiyori Iki was initially your average high school girl, kind of… She loved wrestling and could see spirits. However, when she runs into a god, her life will change forever. Hiyori is very protective of everyone she meets and will rush to save them regardless of any consequences. This also leads her to be very naive and childish. Hiyori does not entirely understand the world of spirits and the effects that it can have on her. This leads her to make rash decisions. Hiyori represents many of the positive traits that are found in Cancers but does not exhibit the negative ones which is why she earns a lower spot on our list.

6. Tamaki Kasuga from Hiiro no Kakera (Hiiro no Kakera: The Tamayori Princess Saga)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="sentai" url="" ]
[information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="13" item2="Air Date" content2="April 2012 - June 2012" ]

Tamaki is extremely protective of her friends and even in her helpless state in the first season, she tries her best to protect even her guardians. She has a cheerful demeanor and is not easily discouraged. Unlike most Cancers, Tamaki is can be incredibly insecure and tries to overcome it when it surfaces. Tamaki is sympathetic to those around her, making her an admirable character in anyone’s eyes. She truly treats all of her friends and loved ones as family, despite some of their negative attitudes towards her. Her loyalty is unmatched and she is deserving of a spot on this list.

[ad_middle]

5. Serena Tsukino from Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon (Sailor Moon)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B00O0FT0KW" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="46" item2="Air Date" content2="March 1992 - February 1993" ]

Serena may seem like a crybaby but she has a strength of character that is not often seen. Despite her insecurities, she rises to face every challenge that confronts her and will stop at nothing to protect the world from the evil Queen Beryl. She is loyal to her friends, though her childish antics often come through in these interactions. Serena’s transition into Sailor Moon made her evolve as a person and allowed her to become the admirable princess that she was destined to be.

4. Kaori Miyazono from Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso (Your Lie in April)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="http://www.crunchyroll.com/your-lie-in-april/episode-10-the-scenery-i-shared-with-you-720111" ]
[information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="22" item2="Air Date" content2="October 2014 - March 2015" ]

Kaori is musically gifted and free-spirited. This tenacious girl makes us as viewers want to live life to the fullest just by allowing us to see into her world. Kaori is sympathetic and imaginative and seeks to bring joy to everyone she meets. However, Kaori hides a dark secret that impacts the lives of everyone around her. As with any middle school girl, she can be moody. This is seen in particular with her interactions with Kosei Arima who has given up his talent with the piano. She thinks he is wasting his gift, which is something that she cannot abide by. Kaori represents the positive aspects of a Cancer to the fullest and lives her life through her passion on the violin.

3. Yachiyo Todoroki from Working!! (Wagnaria!!)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="https://www.crunchyroll.com/wagnaria/episode-10-the-moment-of-truth-nazuna-dons-the-apron-585584" ]
[information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="13" item2="Air Date" content2="April 2010 - June 2010" ]

Yachiyo’s strength lies in her ability to help others. She acts as an almost motherly figure to everyone who works for her and those who enter the café. This demeanor puts everyone at ease practically immediately. Her compassionate nature keeps the customers coming back and also lends to a more romantic attraction to her as exhibited by some of the characters. Her loyalty is unmatched and she often shows kindness to those who obviously don’t deserve it. However, if given the chance she can be very moody, especially when approaching romantic situations. This makes her character seem more naive and is very stereotypical of a female Cancer.

2. Touka Kirishima from Tokyo Ghoul

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B00LGK3YL0" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="12" item2="Air Date" content2="July 2014 - September 2014" ]

As a ghoul, Touka must be careful to not reveal her true identity. She must also have the self-control to not let her ghoulish instincts show. While Touka was initially seen as cold and calculating, she eventually gave way to the more positive aspects of the Cancer. After meeting Ken Kaneki she became more docile and sympathetic, both towards humans and ghouls. Her double life allows her to experience the positive and negative aspects of both sides of her which deepened her understanding towards both species. She is an incredibly loyal friend and admirable Cancer which puts her towards the top of our list.

1. Kikyo from InuYasha

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="https://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-353020/if-you-could-jump-right-into-the-anime-world-who-would-you-kill-first?pg=28" ]
[information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="167" item2="Air Date" content2="October 2000 - September 2004" ]

Kikyo is a difficult character to analyze because of her change in demeanor after her death. In life, she was loyal and compassionate, sympathetic and tenacious. Kikyo and Inuyasha had a great love and she carried her feelings to her grave and beyond. After she was resurrected, she harbored a hate that made her much more villainous than ever before. Kikyo was manipulative and moody and did not seek closeness with anyone. After Kikyo’s death, she became a person that was the embodiment of the negative traits of a Cancer unlike her previous exhibition of the positive ones. This flip earns her the top spot on our list of the top Cancer females.

Final Thoughts

Cancers are renowned for their tenacity and loyalty. They seek deep relationships with friends and family and would like nothing more than to sit around a table and have a nice dinner with everyone. However, they are also known for being moody and insecure. As a Cancer, it is important to find a balance between the positive and negative traits to make yourself a more rounded individual. This is true for all traits, as humans we need to equalize our inherent traits in order to be the best possible version of ourselves. We hope that you have enjoyed our list of the top 10 female Cancers. As always, if you have any questions or comments please feel free to leave them in the comments section below.

Why You Should Watch Revisions
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="NEOBK-2307369" text="" url="" ]

1. The Story

Revisions has an interesting story that you can really get into. Although everything it tries to doesn't hit the mark and doesn't make use of some of the anime’s cooler plot points and themes, you can still appreciate what the anime attempts to do. The story also isn't afraid to kill off some characters which is always nice to see in an action-oriented anime.

2. The Visual

One of the strongest aspects of revisions are its visuals. Everything looks great from the characters to the backgrounds. The mechs and the Revisions also have a unique style to them that make the action and visuals just that much better. The CGI is impressive and looks good in both the action scenes and when the characters are just hanging out.

3. Action Scenes

The action is not only great from a visual standpoint, but it is also the most interesting part of the anime. There is a wide variety of action scenes both inside and outside of the mechs with each one being more exciting than the last. Whenever the story slows down or is lacking in some drama, there is always an action scene to pull it out of its slump.

[ad_middle class="mt40"]
Why You Should Skip Revisions

1. The Characters

While some of the characters are interesting in regards to their personality and role in the story, most of the characters are fairly onenote and have no subtlety. Characters like Keisuke and Nicholas show off some of the poor decisions that were made with Revisions characters. With a little more work and development the characters could have been a lot deeper and interesting.

2. Daisuke

Daisuke is an interesting character, to say the least. Everything Daisuke does is self-centered and ends up harming the people around him. Daisuke is such an unlikeable main character. While this is also what makes his character unique it is just so hard to feel for him when bad things happen.

3. The Ending

Revision's ending is a little infuriating. The conflict only gets partially resolved and then the anime sets itself up for a second season. While this may not be an issue if a second season does get made, for now, this just leaves the story feeling unfinished and leaves a sour taste in your mouth as the series comes to an end.

Final Thoughts

Coming out in a season filled with multiple mech anime, it is hard to stand out amongst the crowd. However, Revisions has plenty of unique things that separate it from some of those other anime. What do you think of Revisions? Do you think it is worth watching? Let us know in the comments below.

Top 5 Kemurikusa Characters

[ad_top1 class="mb40"]

Kemurikusa was one of the most intriguing anime of the 2019 winter season. For the most part, Kemurikusa focused on its small group of companions as they traveled across the world, but you never get tired of them thanks to the quality of the characters and the development they get. This also lets us get more attached to the small cast of characters and appreciate everything they bring to the anime. Today, we are going to be talking about some of the best characters as we take a look at the top five Kemurikusa characters. Let's get started.

[ad_top2 class="mt40 mb40"]

5. Shiro

Shiro is Wakaba's Mushi companion that dutifully supports the group across their journey. Although Shiro can't speak and doesn't have any cool powers, it is still one of the best characters in the anime. Shiro has the essence of animal character has many cute moments, whether it is communicating with computer smiles or the little beeps it makes.

4. Wakaba

Out of all of the main characters, Wakaba is the least exciting to watch. However, he is by no means a boring character. As the series progresses, we slowly learn more about Wakaba and the bigger role he plays in the story. Outside of his story importance, Wakaba also has a few heroic scenes that are some of his best moments and make him seem less like a weak sidekick.

[ad_middle]

3. Ritsu

The collected Ritsu brings a much needed calm to the group. Ritsu takes it upon herself to be a calming presence in order to support the other sisters in their times of need. Her supporting nature isn't just reserved for her sisters, as throughout their journey, Ritsu also takes care of a tree named Midori that rides around in the railway cart.

2. Rina

Out of all of the sisters, Rina may just be the most interesting and have the coolest powers. As Rina drinks more water, she is able to make copies of herself that all have unique personalities. Although the main Rina is a little plain in the personality department, her many forms more than make up for it. Thanks to her abilities, Rina is able to provide a lot of different things to the series, she brings tons of comedy to the dark and dreary world, plenty of cute moments, and watching as her Rina clones die off are some of the most emotional scenes in the anime.

1. Rin

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="VTCL-35297" text="" url="" ]

The leader of the sisters and the main character of the anime, Rin was bound to be one of the best characters in Kemurikusa. Rin has a cold untrusting demeanor, but she has a soft and protective side when it comes to her sisters. Unlike her sisters, Rin's abilities are more battle-focused allowing her to battle against the Red Bugs and protect her sisters.

Final Thoughts

That is it for our list of the top five Kemurikusa characters. Unfortunately, we couldn't fit all of the sisters onto the list, but the ones we did cover are all fantastic. Which Kemurikusa character is your favorite? Are there any you think should have been on the list? Let us know in the comments.

Manga has come a long way from its early beginnings. Many story elements are in play at once in the current offering of titles, and when it comes to translations, a lot of details can be lost. Whether it’s from cultural differences or just misunderstandings, manga plots can sometimes be tough to grasp. Isekai manga are often more difficult than some other genres. That’s why we’ve put together a list of top 10 isekai manga that are easy to read if you just want to quickly pick one up and enjoy it. Let’s begin!

Reincarnated as a young boy alone in the woods, he comes to the aid of passing nobles who quickly try to adopt him into their family after learning of his situation. No matter who he meets, they quickly learn that he is more than meets the eye and wields as much power as the gods themselves. This is one of the best isekai stories you’ll read and very easy to understand.

Final Thoughts

Many isekai manga can be incredibly overwhelming as many authors stuff as many details as they can in order to stand out. Stuff like adventurers guilds, rankings, magic explanations, dungeon levels—it’s all kinds of mind-boggling and different from each manga you read. Thankfully, that’s not the case for these stories! They keep it simple, and we appreciate that. Do you have any recommendations for easy to read isekai manga? Maybe we missed some good ones. Let us know in the comments!

Manaria Friends (Mysteria Friends) Introduction and Story

Mysteria Academy is the most prestigious magical school in all the land, teaching skills to those from all walks of life. Grea is a half-human, half-dragon princess who feels as though she doesn’t quite fit in anywhere. Her world changes when she befriends Princess Anne, the most popular and powerful student at the school. Though their friendship has its ups and downs, the two always remain committed to one another. Grea can be shy and passive, while Anne can be forceful and occasionally ditzy, but the two friends seem to fit perfectly together!

Why You Should Watch Manaria Friends (Mysteria Friends)
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="https://www.crunchyroll.com/mysteria-friends" ]

1. Beautiful Animation

From the first episode to the last, Manaria Friends makes sure that every detail is taken into account and animated perfectly. There are a few rough patches in character design, but for the majority of the series, the environment, characters, and musical score combine to make this one of the most gorgeous anime of the season!

2. Cute Girls Doing Cute Things in Fantasy

Anne and Grea go through everyday life together, working their way through different emotions along their journey. From going shopping, learning to swim, and even becoming roommates, these two emphasize the relative normalcy of their lives rather than focusing on the magical elements of the setting. And they aren’t the only adorable friends we meet along the way – a number of supporting characters, like Hanna and Lou, continue this theme of cute fantasy girls living normal lives as well.

3. A Wholesome Story of Acceptance

Manaria Friends takes a relaxed approach to storytelling. The world is set in the same one as Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis, but this is a time apart from the chaos, focused solely on Anne and Grea. Their story focuses on the bonds of friendship and learning to accept themselves as they are, rather than any dramatic battle or conflict.

[ad_middle class="mt40"]
Why You Should Skip Manaria Friends (Mysteria Friends)

1. No Real Development

Manaria Friends doesn’t offer much in the way of character development, even as Grea and Anne’s friendship grows. Though our main characters seem to be changing, their personalities remain the same throughout, with the only true change being a slight boost in the confidence they find in friendship.

2. Anne and Grea – No One Else Matters…

The supporting characters in Manaria Friends are given very little attention, if only to serve as an addition to the relationship of Anne or Grea. While this is not normally a huge issue, in a show as relaxed as this one, these characters end up serving as nothing more than small plot points, existing only as classic fantasy anime tropes. As such, characters who could have been more interesting, like class president Hanna or loyal guard Owen, are reduced to a poor punctuation in their world.

3. Open-ended from Start to Finish

It is fitting that the series ended with a slight jump in Anne and Grea’s relationship. However, nothing much happens over the course of the series, not even really with their friendship. The girls presumably begin the next year living together, but we don’t even get to see the start of that moment, as the series cuts off just before.

Final Thoughts

The relaxed nature of Manaria Friends, coupled with its cute, simple story and its gorgeous atmosphere, make for a good anime for those not looking for something intense. However, if you came for Shingeki no Bahamut, you will be sadly disappointed, as this story has only bare traces of the beloved show in its setting, left with an empty and sometimes monotonous tale by its end. Top 5 Girly Air Force Characters

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B07MX8FJ93" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]

Strange alien forces known as Xi appear out of nowhere, putting humanity in the fight of their lives. Kei Narutani just manages to escape from his homeland in China, thanks to the efforts of a mysterious pilot. He is brought onto the military base in Japan to work with that same pilot, a “Daughter” or Anima plane named Gripen. The Anima are the next step in the fighting force against the Xi, created to both be a weapon and to take the shape of human girls! In their journey together, Kei and Gripen will learn much about the nature of humanity, but will they be able to fly together in the sky freely one day? We were introduced to a few interesting characters in Girly Air Force, so we thought we would take a moment to talk about some of our favorites! These characters develop quite a bit over the course of the anime, and are some of the most entertaining or loveable characters, not only due to their personalities but also thanks to the impact they had on the story as a whole.

[ad_top2 class="mt40 mb40"]

5. Viper Zero

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="https://www.crunchyroll.com/girly-air-force/episode-8-an-unhappy-top-secret-781313" ]

We rarely see much of Viper Zero, except in battle and in the singular episode where Kei mistakes her for his friend Minghua Song. However, she poses a lot of questions, ones that we are still asking ourselves… Why does her empathic reflector cause her to look like whoever the spectator is thinking of? What is her true form? She seems quite powerful, defending the coast all on her own, and she even offers Kei some good advice when he first meets her. We would have loved to learn more about her, but since a second season doesn’t seem likely, Viper Zero may remain a permanent mystery.

4. Rhino

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="https://www.crunchyroll.com/girly-air-force/episode-11-a-homeland-with-no-one-home-781316" ]

Rhino is an outsider to the main group, being the only American-made Anima in existence. She was so restricted and secluded in her life that she was excited to be working alongside the other Anima, even throwing them a party to welcome them for their mission. However, when she is taken over by the Xi while stranded with Kei and Gripen, she finds a freedom too enticing to pass up and turns against them, forcing the two to destroy her. While she also does not have much screen time in the series, her story is rather tragic and sticks with you even after the show has ended. With someone to stand by her from the beginning, she might have even been saved…

[ad_middle]

3. Kei Narutani

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="https://www.crunchyroll.com/girly-air-force/episode-9-unphysical-layer-781314" ]

In many ways, Kei is our typical lone male protagonist. He builds his own harem of women, albeit unknowingly, and never fully commits to any one of them. However, Kei does have a bit more depth found in his backstory and character development. His mother was killed by Xi, and he wants to fly against them in order to avenge her. When he discovers that Gripen and the Anima are made out of parts of Xi, he struggles with it at first. Yet he does overcome his hatred in the end, fighting alongside Gripen because of who she is, rather than where she comes from. Despite being an average boy, Kei is surprisingly strong when it comes to endurance, and is able to fly with Gripen thanks to his determination and will to fight.

2. Phantom

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="https://www.crunchyroll.com/girly-air-force/episode-7-after-the-bewilderment-781312" ]

Phantom was one of the original Anima, back when they thought they might not be able to create any more. Under the increasing pressure to be the only savior for humanity, she has become very self-reliant, appearing condescending to the other Anima when she first meets them. She does come to respect Kei and his flying instinct over time, though she remains superior in this regard. Phantom may have appeared abrasive and unlikable when she first joined the team, but after a bit of explanation, she quickly became one of the best characters in the series. Using her tactical abilities to mess with the enemy and her incredible focus and leadership to direct the others, Phantom is someone everyone needs by their side in a battle!

1. Gripen

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="https://www.crunchyroll.com/girly-air-force/episode-3-anima-core-781308" ]

The true main heroine of the series, Gripen starts out a timid girl afraid to fly, but she quickly overcomes obstacles in her way with the help of Kei. She discovers what it means to be human through time spent with him, and some of the most meaningful moments of the series happen as a result of their deepening relationship. She also continues to grow throughout Girly Air Force, eventually coming to question her past and why she cannot seem to remember anything from before she met Kei. She struggles with her image of herself, as well as a sort of physical illness, and comes out at the other end able to fly confidently with Kei by her side. Gripen is an adorable inspiration to us all!

Final Thoughts

These are some of the most interesting and loveable characters from Girly Air Force, the ones who struggle and are able to come out better from the experience. When all is said and done, characters are what hold an anime together, and these five are among the best of examples for this! Who is your favorite character from Girly Air Force? Avengers: Endgame was the culmination of 22 movies and 11 years of build up. It features dozens of superheroes coming together to combat a singular all-powerful enemy in Thanos. In many ways, Avengers: Endgame resembled some of the finest concluding arcs in shounen where the dozens of powerful characters we’ve met across the lengthy series will gather up to combat a powerful force. In another sense, Avengers: Endgame’s time travel storyline reminded us of narratives where characters fail but can go back in time to redeem their mistakes. These two traits were taken into consideration when we decided the best series to recommend for fans of Avengers: Endgame.

Liked Avengers: Endgame? Watch Hunter x Hunter!

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="VPBV-13786" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes="148" aired="October 2011 – September 2014" post_id=""]

Gon Freecss, a twelve-year-old boy from a remote village dreams of following in his estranged father’s footsteps and becoming a hunter. Hunters are a special class of warriors who undertake a variety of tasks like hunting monsters, criminals, treasures, and even food. To officially become a hunter, Gon will have to enter the Hunter Exam, a deadly test that will pit him against hundreds of other contenders. However, among the many competitors, Gon will make lifelong friends to aid him in his journey.

Major Similarities Between Avengers: Endgame and Hunter x Hunter

1. A Gathering of Heroes

The central attraction to Avengers: Endgame is that we get to see heroes from across 22 movies team-up to try and take on a singular enemy. This actually happens multiple times in Hunter x Hunter where characters from previous arcs, sometimes even villains and antiheroes, will return to aid our titular character in their latest test. In one of the last arcs, we see some of the most powerful but ambiguous characters come together to take on one of the world’s strongest beings.

2. A Suicidal Mission

Avengers: Endgame centers around a challenging quest to go back in time in order to gain the power to reverse the mass murder of half the universe’s population. It’s a mission that will be challenging to return from and is likely to have casualties. Hunter x Hunter’s last mission focuses on infiltrating a castle containing four beings stronger than any known human. We know that these characters won’t escape without great loss.

3. Layered Villain

Thanos had an entire movie’s worth of build up with the preceding Avengers: Infinity War, so going into Endgame we were aware of the villain’s motivations. Thanos is a man with a God complex, believing he alone knows what needs to be done to better the universe. Meruem, an ultra-powerful being, also gains certain ideals about how the world should be run. Alas, both Thanos and Meruem’s ideals, while aspirational, sought to limit the liberty humans embrace.

Natsuki Subaru is an average teenager who expected being transported into a fantasy world to resemble the many games and shows he’d watched on his endless free time. While getting beat up on his first day isn’t anything he saw coming, meeting a beautiful girl like Satella who just so happens to be missing her insignia is the perfect quest to start his new life. Alas, never imagined that when he found that insignia, they would both be brutally murdered.

Major Similarities Between Avengers: Endgame and Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu (Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-)

1. Time Traveling

Having failed to stop Thanos from wiping out half the universe, the heroes of Avengers: Endgame have to go back at various points in time to steal the stones necessary to undo his actions. Re:ZERO centers around a different sort of time traveling: Natsuki has to go back to a restart point every time he dies to find a way to live on while keeping the people he cares about alive as well. Like Avengers: Endgame, this can often result in unforeseen consequences.

2. A Troubled Protagonist

Avengers: Endgame’s heroes have undergone many changes after having suffered a defeat at the hands of Thanos. These changes can make it easy to dislike these characters if we fail to be sympathetic. Natsuki deals with a ton of stress and has to find new ways to cope with the losses he faces when he dies, this has serious effects on his personality. Avengers: Endgame and Re:Zero both don’t let off their protagonist without forcing them to adjust to their trauma.

Avengers: Endgame reflected everything we love about the great shounen arcs of anime. Hunter x Hunter and Re:Zero are just the tip of the iceberg in terms of anime that carry similarities to Avengers: Endgame and would be worth a watch if you want to see big hero team-ups, a layered villain, complicated protagonists, and plots of grand scale. Are there other anime you’d recommend to those wanting to fill the Avengers: Endgame-sized hole in their heart? Let us know in the comments down below!

It’s finally here—the full-length Fruits Basket adaptation we’ve all dreamed about for 20 years! The 2001 anime is a nostalgic classic in its own right, but only gets as far as the 6th volume out of 23 before ending a bit anticlimactically. No storylines get resolved and some characters like Zodiac members Rin and Kureno as well as fan-favorite psychopath Ren don’t even get the chance to show up. But most importantly, the first anime doesn’t reach the point where Fruits Basket shifts from a high school comedy with a few sad backstories into the complex family drama that manga fans love so much. So, to celebrate the release of Fruits Basket’s 2019 anime, we’re showcasing our five favorite manga moments that we can’t wait to see in glorious modern animation. When newcomers see these amazing scenes, they’ll finally understand what a captivating story Natsuki Takaya’s magnum opus truly is!

-- Spoilers Ahead! --

[ad_top2 class="mt40 mb40"]

1. Momiji’s Glow-Up

The excitable half-German teen Momiji is the perfect person to embody the Zodiac’s rabbit spirit, especially in his earlier appearances. He’s small enough to look like a little kid and dresses in adorably eccentric clothes, including wearing the female high school uniform (with shorts) for his entire freshman year. It’s easy to forget that his upbringing was just as abusive as those of the other Zodiac members, especially since he hides his pain behind his cutesy attitude. But later in the manga, he hits a growth spurt and shows up to school as the very model of an early 2000s bishounen! He still keeps some aspects of his old self, such as his rabbit backpack, earrings, and positive outlook on life, but the new Momiji now has the confidence to attack his problems head-on. He stops dwelling on the past and even manages to refuse Akito’s manipulative pleas to return to the family. We love this glow-up so much!

2. The Mangaka Roasts Herself With Kimi’s Backstory

It seems like just about everyone in Fruits Basket has a tragic backstory of some kind, even the ones who aren’t part of the Zodiac. This allows for deep and complex storytelling, but it does get predictable after a while—when a new character shows up, it’s only a matter of time before we get the depressing flashback about their childhood. Hilariously, Natsuki Takaya acknowledges this with her “tragic” backstory for the bubbly and vain student council member Kimi. It starts with a standard schoolyard bullying scene, complete with shadowed faces and dramatic camera angles, where some bratty girls tell Kimi that she’s a dumb bimbo who can only get by on her looks. Surprisingly, Kimi thinks that’s a great idea and vows to use her cute face to get anywhere she wants in life! Considering that she was explicitly created to have nothing to do with the Sohma family’s emotional struggles, her flippant attitude makes her the best character to deliver this self-aware jab at Takaya’s own writing.

[ad_middle class="mb40"]

3. “Sorta Cinderella”

For the school festival, Tohru’s class decides to put on a production of Cinderella. Unfortunately, they horribly miscast it—dark and brooding Hana is Cinderella, sweet Tohru is her “evil” stepsister, and scrappy Kyo is the prince (Yuki’s role as the fairy godmother is the only good decision). Naturally, the rehearsals go haywire from there and the final performance ends with Cinderella choosing to open a yakiniku shop with her sister instead of marrying the prince. Let’s hear it for career gals! As sidesplitting as this arc is, it also shows how Tohru and Kyo need to reject their prescribed roles (a polite, deferential orphan and the ostracized Zodiac cat, respectively) in order to make any real change in their lives. Kyo realizes that Tohru genuinely wants him to break free from the curse so he can live by his own rules and that he wants the same for her. It’s the spark that ignites his true feelings of love for her, and it came from the smoldering remains of their doomed school play.

4. Akito’s True Self

Everyone in the Sohma family respects and fears the “god of the Zodiac”, a kimono-clad recluse named Akito who controls the other Zodiac members through gaslighting and systemic abuse. Even Tohru is struck still with terror when Akito briefly appears at her school to “check in”. But when she pries further into the Sohma’s inner ranks and meets Akito’s closest confidant Kureno, Tohru learns who this mysterious “god” really is—a sad, scared little girl. Only a chosen few knew Akito’s true gender from the start, and even fewer knew how she became so conniving and manipulative. It’s all because of her narcissistic mother Ren, who raised her as a boy so that Akito’s father (the previous “god”) wouldn’t love her more than his wife. None of this excuses Akito’s reprehensible behavior of tearing the Zodiac members away from anyone they grow close to so that they can’t stop worshipping her, but it does explain a lot of it. Can Tohru’s love heal a heart as black and bottomless as this?

5. Breaking the Curse

Ah yes, what we’ve all been waiting for! Breaking the curse actually happens over several volumes (and Kureno had been free since before the story started), but the most impactful moment comes when Akito finally chooses to let everyone go. By allowing the warped promise of years past to fade away, the Zodiac members are released from their forced devotion to Akito and can choose their own way forward for the first time in their lives. It’s a bittersweet conclusion, as each of the Sohmas cries at the loss of such an influential part of themselves, but the catharsis of being able to embrace their loved ones after a lifetime of isolation more than makes up for it. The scene where Kyo tears off the bracelet that seals his true form and hugs Tohru without hesitation makes us cry every time we read it. Once it’s animated, we can only imagine how much more powerful this moment will be!

Final Thoughts

We also can’t wait to see moments like Kyoko’s friendship with a young Kyo, Rin’s traumatic haircut, the birth of Hiro’s sister, and many more iconic scenes from this seminal work of shoujo manga. But for now, we’re happy just looking forward to new episodes every week and hearing from our friends how much they love the 2019 version. It’s an exciting time to be a Fruits Basket fan! What did you think of our list? What are some of your favorite Fruits Basket moments that you want to see animated? Let us know in the comments, and thanks so much for reading!

Exploring Different Types of Sports Anime

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="NEOBK-1916477" text="" url="" ]

Sports anime titles are notably hit or miss with international audiences for reasons that qualify as its own article but are very popular in its native Japan. For now, we wish to explore how this genre diversifies in many unique ways. Some take place in a school setting, others under professional conditions, and others that go in a very crazy and some would argue, creative direction. So, what are some of the sports anime that fit under these categories?

School

A good percentage of sports anime are largely featured in a school setting. This applies to Prince of Tennis, Hinomaruzumou, Slam Dunk, and All Out!! So, what’s the idea behind this? In schools across Japan, students are strongly encouraged to participate in sports. Though this may not be present in the consciousness of non-Japanese viewers, but the reason why participating in sports is such a big deal in the school system is because it teaches members how to get ready for the real world. Through all the anime we just listed, they actually do a great job of showing how members are supposed to interact with their senpai, kouhai, captain and coach. When audiences view such anime, it teaches you how to manage such relationships in society. Though this isn’t exactly portrayed in the anime we listed, putting what club you were in back in secondary school on your resume is actually big in Japan. If you participated in team sports, it gives the company a better idea that you can be a team member to them as well. When you take into account Japanese society’s group-oriented mentality, such sports titles are relatable to its native audience. In let’s say American society, individualism is encouraged and sports aren’t exactly for everyone, which is why the genre doesn’t resonate with some non-Japanese viewers.

Educational

A lot of sports anime do a great job of educating their viewers behind the sport it portrays. This quality is most emphasized in the boxing series, Hajime no Ippo. It shows audiences how there are various styles suited to a character’s build such as Ippo’s peek-a-boo and close quarters power oriented style for his stockier build, and how it contrasts to the taller Miyata’s stick and move style which relies on speed. Depending on the match, audiences can see how Ippo prepares and what parts of his body he has to train in order to get ready. You see how certain exercises create muscle memory and how it contributes to his performance, and it’s what real fighters do. One unorthodox sports anime that excellently fits well into how it excellently educates its audience is the street racing hit, Initial D. Largely narrated through the supporting character Ryousuke, audiences can learn how drifts work and how a car needs to be modified in order to perform on certain courses. You learn how street racing can foster certain unconventional techniques and thinking as opposed to racing on an actual track. This is largely demonstrated when Ryousuke races Kyouichi, who has a professional background. Due to the risk of possible oncoming traffic, Kyouichi exhibits a hint of hesitation when turning right (remember that Japanese drive on the left side), and it affects his performance. Ryousuke deduces this and exploits it to get the W.

Professional/Life Story

Some anime tend to tell a full story of one’s career in one particular sport from beginning to end. This originated with Kyojin no Hoshi, of how Hoshi starts his career in little league baseball, to competing in high school, and finally as a pro. In the eighties and its 2018 remake, this story applied to soccer with Captain Tsubasa. In recent years, we have also seen this with Free! where the characters start as children, and you see how they advance to a more competitive level as the series progresses. While all three anime cover different sports, they do have very common qualities with how you see the main characters start off as children, and they stay dedicated to their craft to the pros. However, with Kyojin no Hoshi as an older title, the training methods portrayed in that series (especially when Hoshi was a child) now qualify as a visit from CPS by today’s standards. With modern titles like Free!, the cast trains hard but not to a point where you can consider it child abuse/labor.

Other

On the surface, Free! seems like a yaoi series with how it gender swaps the studio’s (meaning Kyoto Animation) typical female oriented titles with boys. You see the team together in skimpy swimsuits looking like they’re intimate, but it’s not like that. However, if there is one anime that has been known to go in that direction in a more suggestive sense, then that’s what Yuri!! on Ice is for. Yuri!! on Ice does a great job of portraying same sex relationships in a very natural sense and not just for novelty’s sake. You see how significant a relationship between a coach and athlete is very beneficial to development and success, and sometimes, love can be born out of it.

Then there’s the sports anime that tend to be over the top, and this was popularized by Prince of Tennis by metaphorically portraying the characters’ abilities as typical Shounen manga attacks (look up Tezuka destroys the dinosaurs on YouTube). It has been criticized even by Konomi, the original creator himself. In addition to Prince of Tennis, Kuroko no Basuke has also taken this notion in application to basketball where characters have strange auras. If any anime series popularized this aspect to sports, it has to be Masami Kurumada’s Ring ni Kakero, a boxing manga that takes the imagination to levels that likely was the result of some crazy drugs. Either way, sports may not be appealing to non-Japanese on a surface level, but once you see past that, they all share universal and relatable qualities.

Exploring Different Types of Mecha Anime

$

[ad_top1 class="mb40"]
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="DSTD-6711" text="" url="" ]

The mecha genre is probably one of the most creative aspects to anime as it takes sci-fi to a different plane of storytelling. It’s more or less as old as anime itself as it goes back to almost the beginning with the likes of Tetsujin 28, or Gigantor outside of Japan. For the past 50+ years, it has been further evolving from the super robot days of Mazinger Z, to realistic mecha such as the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise. So, in what ways do mecha diverse?

War/Tactics

In most mecha anime, they commonly tend to be used in the confines of war, which was popularized in the original Gundam series. Eventually, it paved the way for the likes of other “clones” from Votoms to Aldnoah.Zero. Gundam is probably the biggest mecha franchise to have ever existed. However, if one anime does a great job of portraying the war aspect of mecha, it is certainly in 08th MS Team, which is told from the point of view of a squadron stationed in the jungles. As opposed to highly evolved people fighting each other head-to-head, you see guerrilla tactics applied and a hit or miss can make the difference. While the mecha are rather secondary in Code Geass, it is another great example war and mecha. In its spin-off, Akito the Exiled, you see how the designs of the mecha can be applied in certain environments. For those in high-tree forests, sometimes a multi-legged mecha with low suspension is most effective for camouflage and efficiency. When you’re outmanned, there are instances that (literal) horsepower that give you the speed and agility advantage can be the key to victory.

Teen Pilots

What Gundam and numerous mecha anime all have in common is the use of teenagers as the pilots. Yes, part of the trope is to appeal to younger audiences, but there are more subliminal ideas behind it. To modern Japanese society, they see their teen years as the last stretch of freedom they have in their life before they become adults and become a slave to the workforce. By “violating” this sense of freedom, it can capture mature audiences as well. With Iron-Blooded Orphans, the present incarnation to the Gundam franchise, it presents the teen/child soldier trope in a much more mature context. As opposed to having the pilots being academically inclined, the pilots/soldiers portrayed in IBO are driven by economic conditions. As a result, as opposed to having a genius pilot, Mikazuki and a majority of his teammates are illiterate and he’s as socially awkward as Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory but to a different kind of extremity.

Space Opera

A significant percentage of mecha anime use space as the setting. Under zero gravity conditions, you can see heavy machinery operate at believable speeds and agility while in combat. Though the original Gundam paved way for this, it mostly took place within the Earth’s realm. Other anime from the old days such as Ideon, Dougram, and Votoms largely took place in the vastness of space, but they never interacted with other alien lifeforms, and mostly focused on humans expanding throughout the stars. However, if any anime solidified intergalactic mecha, it was certainly the Macross franchise. With Delta, its most recent release, you see how humans have migrated across the galaxy, how they interact with other forms of intelligent life and become friends with them. While the Earth initially start off as enemies with some of the aliens they encounter, they still come to learn that peace is always the answer for everybody to advance. Some cultures on Earth have a tendency to be isolated and for good reason, and at times, we should respect such sovereignty. But by sharing when the time is right, all good (and maybe bad) things are possible. Through Delta, audiences can come to learn how precious life is when the average lifespan of a Windermerian is at max around 30 years. With Freyja, you learn that no matter where you come from, everybody has dreams and sacrifices have to be made to make them come true. But whatever those dreams are, not only will they take you places, but so can they people you encounter. They can help make your dreams come true, and the pursuit of your dreams can also make a difference in their lives as we see in Macross Delta.

Super Robot

As we shared before, mecha anime originated as what is now called super robot, meaning that the featured robot was more of a superhero as opposed to lets say a soldier. The designs from Mazinger Z to Go-Lion (or Voltron outside of Japan) gave them numerous colors and all the bells and whistles. They had gimmicky attack moves, etc. While younger audiences can call them silly and out of date, it doesn’t mean that they’re still out of fashion. For example, Evangelion, which has been listed on many polls as the best anime of all time, is an homage to super robot where they have to face a monster of the week. Gurren Lagan, another masterpiece by Gainax, is another homage to the super robot genre with its design and novelty with its unconventional weapons and abilities.

Mecha is a very distinguishing genre that some casual viewers think has been done to death, and we understand that. However, as more titles are produced, they do add one small element that can be a game changer or find a way to stand out from the rest. Yes, some comedic oriented titles do exist such as Nadesico and Full Metal Panic, and there are some isekai titles such as Aura Battler Dunbine and Escaflowne. While comedy and isekai in relation to mecha are small in numbers, they offer quality distinction and add to the genre as a whole with something unique.

Leos are arguably one of the most exciting zodiac signs to be around. They are passionate and cheerful which allows them to have a pleasant heir around them. Leos are additionally known to delight in humor and excel creatively. As with all signs, Leos have their traits that can lead to downfall. Their passion can turn to laziness and their humor can transform into stubbornness. These traits can lead to the most exciting person on the planet or morph them into someone who is dreadful to be around and who puts off a horrible aura. Leos can be one of the most admirable traits in the zodiac and is one of the most passionate signs to be born under. Take pride, if you are a Leo (or any other sign for that matter) in your strengths and use them to overcome your worst impulses. When we analyze the list of anime characters born under this sign, we have to analyze them for both their positive and negative traits. Like no human can only have great characteristics, no anime character can either. It is important to take this into consideration when analyzing because we have to analyze these great characters for not only their strengths but also how they overcome the weaknesses of their sign.

10. Isaac Foster from Satsuriku no Tenshi (Angels of Death)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="https://www.crunchyroll.com/angels-of-death/episode-15-a-vow-cannot-be-stolen-777938" ]
[information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="12" item2="Air Date" content2="July 2018 - September 2018" ]

Isaac is a difficult character on this list to place. He is not cheerful or humorous and does not display many of the positive characteristics of a Leo. He is stubborn and selfish. He uses Rachel for his own selfish desire to reach the end of the game and only starts to question his motives and show some humanity after he develops deeper feelings for Rachel. The stereotypical generous and warm-hearted nature of the Leo is not present in Isaac, which makes him fall to the bottom of our list.

9. Shinya Kogami from Psycho-Pass

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="http://www.crunchyroll.com/psycho-pass/episode-10-episode-10-757319" ]
[information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="22" item2="Air Date" content2="October 2012 - March 2013" ]

Kogami is not someone that enjoys small talk. He is a no-nonsense detective that takes his work more seriously than anything else. When it comes to solving crimes, Kogami is one of the best, but his work attitude transitions into his personal life which makes it difficult for any personal or close relationships. He also is extremely inflexible when it comes to pretty much anything in his life, which makes him more dull than the other characters on this list and is not characteristic of a Leo. Kogami’s life is work and while he is certainly an admirable character, he does not display the traits of a Leo as well as others on this list.

8. Kusuo Saiki from Saiki Kusuo no Ψ-nan (The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="http://www.crunchyroll.com/the-disastrous-life-of-saiki-k/episode-1-episode-1-770873" ]
[information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="120" item2="Air Date" content2="July 2016 - December 2016" ]

Kusuo is almost too cool for school. He has the most outrageous abilities but because of this, nothing surprises him. He finds almost nothing humorous and is never cheerful. Most of the time, it seems like the only thing that he is passionate about is coffee jelly. However, these moods make him come off as incredibly arrogant and self-centered. Kusuo is frustrating because he makes himself out to be better than everyone around him, but he displays the self-centered nature of the Leo well. He avoids large crowds and dislikes talking to pretty much anyone. This character embodies many of the more negative characteristics of the Leo.

7. Hinata Shintani from Kaichou wa Maid-sama! (Maid Sama!)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="https://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-783065/biggest-appetite-in-anime?pg=9" ]
[information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="26" item2="Air Date" content2="April 2010 - September 2010" ]

Hinata is the long lost childhood friend that everyone wishes that they had. He is kind and compassionate and harbors a deep and passionate love for Misaki. He is the most cheerful person imaginable and brings joy to everyone around him. He rarely has a bad attitude and even is friendly to those that he considers his enemies. Even when he feels that things are more difficult for him, he chooses to refrain from being selfish and let others lives go on without him. Hinata is the guy that many Leos strive to be because he only displays the most positive traits of the sign. However, without some negative ones, we find that his character is lacking the depth that some of the others possess and earning him a lower spot on our list.

6. Darien Shields from Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon (Sailor Moon)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="https://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-113414/favourite-masked-character?pg=73" ]
[information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="46" item2="Air Date" content2="March 1992 - February 1993" ]

Darian, aka Tuxedo Mask, is sworn to protect and defend his princess. However, things become dicey when he finds out that the love of his life is such a crybaby. Despite his irritation, Darien comes through when necessary and is constantly around to save the day. His character displays an arrogant and stubborn attitude even though his true feelings are more passionate. Darien is a good representation of both sides of the character of a Leo.

5. Nagisa Hazuki from Free! (Free! Iwatobi Swim Club)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="LACM-14124" text="" url="" ]
[information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="12" item2="Air Date" content2="July 2013 - September 2013" ]

Nagisa is not one that faces any situation with a malicious attitude. His personality is very straightforward and he intends on making the best out of any situation. Nagisa is an admirable friend and teammate and always does his best. His trustworthiness is something to be admired and he rarely lets anyone down if he can help it. Nagisa is an admirable Leo and displays the passion and friendliness that this horoscope sign is known for.

4. Sasuke Uchiha from Naruto

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="http://www.crunchyroll.com/naruto-shippuden/episode-469-a-special-mission-716115" ]
[information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="220" item2="Air Date" content2="October 2002 - February 2007" ]

Sasuke started out being an average Leo, very cheerful and able to bring joy to all of those around him. However, as darkness started to creep into is life through his family’s murder, he learns to fall far away from the happy-go-lucky person that he used to be. This change morphs him into an unpleasant fellow and international criminal. He becomes stubborn and inflexible until he meets Naruto who makes him see the error in his ways. This changes him into a happy medium that should be proud to be a Leo.

3. Ryoutarou Tsuchiura from Kiniro no Corda: Primo Passo (La Corda d’Oro: Primo Passo)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="https://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-288342/who-are-ur-top-three-guys?pg=9" ]
[information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="25" item2="Air Date" content2="October 2006 - March 2007" ]

Ryoutarou seems serious about everything that he approaches, this includes soccer, piano and women. His passion is visible through any outlet that he chooses to express himself in and this passion can sometimes come off as being self-centered by others around him. He will put aside his relationships for his craft and this is often frowned upon by those who don’t understand what he is experiencing. His focus on his activities is an admirable trait of any Leo and he is worthy of a high spot on our list.

2. Tomoe from Kamisama Hajimemashita (Kamisama Kiss)

[sourceLink asin="B0097D0L3C" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="13" item2="Air Date" content2="October 2012 - December 2012" ]

As a fox demon that is full of lust and desire, Tomoe portrays the negative aspects of the Leo quite well. He is stubborn and arrogant towards anyone except his most trusted friends and shrine members and he is uncompromising when it comes to his own personal rules. Though when he warms up to Nanami, he displays a more cheerful side when getting his way. She is able to change him into a more passionate and warm-hearted fox. This mix of traits earned him a top spot on our list.

1. Hak Son from Akatsuki no Yona (Yona of the Dawn)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="4592196961" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="24" item2="Air Date" content2="October 2014 - March 2015" ]

Hak is a great warrior. After training all of his life to protect the princess, Yona, Hak is able to use his skills to the fullest. However, being born under such a passionate sign can lead him to have conflicting feelings towards the beautiful princess. To hide these emotions, he displays an aura of stubbornness and arrogance. These traits often make Yona angry with him because of his apparent love one moment then disdain the next. His passion and overall spunk make Hak an excellent fighter and worthy advisory. Hak is definitely a character to be admired but has difficult balancing his emotions putting him at the top of our list of top Leos.

Final Thoughts

Leos are known for being creative, compassionate and cheerful people. They light up a room whenever they walk into it and have no problem with chatting up others. They are the kind of people that make others feel like the most important person in the world, particularly romantic partners because of their passionate nature. However, on a bad day and when they draw on their worst impulses, they can be arrogant, stubborn and overall frustrating. This makes it hard to maintain relationships without the awareness of these traits. Leo is an incredible sign to be born under, but without keeping your negative traits in check, they can be your downfall. We hope that you have enjoyed this list of the top 10 male Leos.
