Karakuri Circus (Le Cirque de Karakuri) Preview (No Spoilers)

Narumi Katou only thought about surviving while making people laugh due to a strange illness he suffered. But when his path crossed with Masaru Saiga, the young heir of the Saiga fortune; and Shirogane, Masaru’s mysterious bodyguard, he decided he’d do anything to make them both smile. He never expected that this vow would make him discover terrible secrets behind his illness and those who control the world.

Narumi Kato Highlights (Spoilers Beyond This Point)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="VPXY-71723" text="" url="" ]

1. He Never Lets A Child be Harmed

At first, Narumi tries to show that he’s a stoic man who only cares about his own survival, but the moment he sees Masaru get kidnapped, he can’t stop himself from helping. And it’s not just because Masaru laughed and saved Narumi’s life. Later on, whenever an Automata or Puppeteer threatens a child near Narumi, no matter if he doesn't know them, Narumi will make them suffer lots of pain.

2. He Never Gives Up

It doesn’t matter if Narumi’s being thrown into an endless pit, shot with a thousand steel cones, and losing all his blood, he will not stop fighting for those who count on him. Even near death and being told by his allies to sit down and let the others handle their enemies, Narumi will force his body to go on fighting until the end.

3. His Love for Shirogane Survives Everything

The moment Narumi saw Shirogane, he fell in love with her and decided he would do anything to make her smile. And even after losing an arm and his memory to an explosion, and then his other arm and both legs, and being told that Shirogane was the cause of all his suffering, he can’t bring himself to kill her. Deep down, he loves her even as he doesn’t know who she is.

4. He Never Forgets His Friends

Just as Narumi won’t forget or betray Shirogane, he will never leave a comrade behind or forget their sacrifices. While Ming-Xia was worried Narumi would be angry when they used his friend’s puppets to replace his limbs, once Narumi woke up, he declared that the new limbs made him more human; they were eternal reminders of his friends and the sacrifices they made for him.

5. He Always Has Time for Children

Just as Narumi will always fight for a child in danger, he will drop everything he’s doing if children need his attention. Even in the middle of the war against the Midnight Circus, he was ready to quit fighting for the children in the ZONAPHA Research Center’s first wing since they needed caretakers who weren’t drugged out of their mind or cared nothing for the children.

Final Thoughts

Narumi is not exactly a handsome bishounen type, but he’ll never let you down. His determination and sincerity make him very easy to love and admire, as everyone in Karakuri Circus discover after spending just a few hours with him. So let us know, what are the things that you like the most about Narumi?

Human Lost Introduction and Story

Human Lost—based loosely on Osamu Dazai’s No Longer Human auto biological novel—tells a tale of a future where humanity has changed into something incredible. Thanks to the power of nanomachines and the SHELL system, humans have surpassed the need for conventional medicines and doctors. Now, most humans have begun to live well beyond the typical age of death entering the realm of beyond 120 years of age. As a byproduct of this evolution of mankind, Japan has begun to struggle internally with various problems from economic falls and high crime. However, the more grave issues come from humans becoming “Lost”. Those who enter this Human Lost state become frenzied monster-like beings that attack without discretion. SHELL has tried to mitigate those who turn Lost but worry there will be bigger outbreaks as time goes on. From this intro, we then follow our main protagonist Youzou Oba who is a struggling orphaned artist. Oba ends up getting involved with a strange man named Masao Horiki who gives Oba and his friend a strange drug to induce the state of Human Lost. Oba’s friend transforms as they try to stage a rush to enter SHELL’s headquarters and Oba also transforms during the fight. While Oba begins to get consumed by his former friend, he ends up becoming an altered Lost and gains the attention of SHELL and HILAM or the Anti Lost Agency. From here Oba begins to get dragged around by HILAM, SHELL, and Masao as they try to use his powers to change the very existence of the world. Oba continues to struggle throughout the movie with his existence now being both a human but also a monster that his thoughts quickly spiral out of control. Luckily, Yoshiko Hiiragi—a girl we meet earlier in the movie who has powers like Oba—tries to keep his mind sane. As the movie progresses—we won’t go into full spoilers so you can enjoy the major moments for yourself—Masao unleashes his grand plans alongside several others who cause the fate of the world to be up to Oba’s power. With little choice, Oba is forced to make decisions that can affect his own sanity and affect humanity in unprecedented ways. In the end, Oba will indeed be No Longer Human but the path to that will be one you’ll need to see to believe.

Why You Should Watch Human Lost
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="410180172X" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]

1. Deep Narrative with Intriguing Themes

No Longer Human intrigued readers with an interesting take on how a man could examine their world in an almost kaleidoscope way. Human Lost captures this strange thought process by putting our main “hero” Oba into a situation where every action he takes can be seen in not just one way. You’ll begin to wonder if living forever—as great as that might sound—could be a truly terrifying reality even for those who wish to.

2. Intriguing Sci-Fi Elements

Human Lost tries to be a psychological thriller first and foremost but what we noticed more than anything else was the deep sci-fi themes. Humanity has always balanced between the advancement of technology and how that could help—and hinder—us as a race. Human Lost examines the possibilities of humans going too far in their pursuit of longevity better than some anime films we’ve seen before. Sci-fi fans will love the perfect mix of drama, psychological themes and futuristic technologies found in Human Lost.

3. Incredible Soundtrack

Any good anime film can live or die based on its soundtrack. Each scene needs to have strong accompanying tunes or songs to increase the impact of the visuals on screen. Human Lost immediately shows that it understands this concept and provides some truck incredible music that makes every drama-filled moment or action-packed fight just that much more powerful! We hope Human Lost eventually has a soundtrack release to the public, we’d buy it day one if it did!

[ad_middle class="mt40"]
Why You Should Skip Human Lost

1. CGI Visuals

While Polygon Pictures is well known for its great works like Ajin and Knights of Sidonia, their use of CGI still turns off many anime fans. If you’re one of those who hate CGI—even when it’s done quite well—then you’re going to dislike Human Lost’s visual aesthetics. There are some truly incredible CGI moments in Human Lost but we still don’t believe it will make people love CGI if they hate it already.

2. Don’t Expect No Longer Human

Earlier on in our review, we said Human Lost loosely follows the theme/premise of No Longer Human by Dazai. That statement is very true as Human Lost barely captures the concepts of No Longer Human and instead strives to use the concepts from that book but in a different way. Oba’s character struggles with his own weakness/past/actions but unlike Dazai, his thoughts of becoming a monster are based on those choices and not on a psychological depression. Though there will be some mentions of double suicides, we just won’t say when…

3. Occasionally Boring Scenes

Like Dazai’s No Longer Human, Human Lost tries to be very metaphorical in its approach to looking at the weakness of man and the thoughts of what freedom means. On paper, this works quite well for an autobiography like No Longer Human but for a sci-fi themed psychological thriller, it can be a double-edged sword. There are some scenes in Human Lost that can almost be painfully boring. Please note though that of the issues found in Human Lost, this isn’t a big problem seeing as how we like occasional slow moments like these for pacing/plot purposes.

Final Thoughts

Human Lost is a very unique anime film. We can see many viewers loving the way it handles the various themes of death, mortality, life, sci-fi, and drama but we can also see people hating it for those same reasons. Human Lost is a film that will divide viewers not because it’s a poor movie—it’s far from poor—but because it’s so strange and thought-provoking. We highly recommend watching Human Lost as we loved our time with it and think it could be considered a truly unique anime film. A History of Yakuza (Video Game Series) Part 3 - A-List Celebrities

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="PLJM-16424" text="" url="" ]

As we shared in part two, we mentioned how the dub of the first game featured the talents of Michael Madsen and Mark Hamill. While such big name celebrities to Western audiences may not have helped its credibility, in Japan, the Yakuza series has maintained its domestic popularity by heavily featuring its own domestic A-list celebrities.

Yakuza Films Actors

This practice dates back to the very first game! One of the notable big name actors from the first game was Tetsuya Watari, who voiced Kazama, Kiryuu’s foster father. In his youth, Watari made a name for himself starring in yakuza films such as Tokyo Drifter and Outlaw: Gangsters VIP in the 1960’s. The Kazama character notably takes influence from the character he plays in Tokyo Drifter, where he is a hitman. As the series progressed, it would continue to feature famous Japanese performers who gained fame by starring in yakuza films, most notably Riki Takeuchi, Hitoshi Ozawa, and Hideo Nakano, who all played Kiryu’s rivals in Yakuza 0. As insane as it sounds, this isn’t the first time they have worked together in any capacity. In the 90’s, they starred in a lot of yakuza films either individually or together. Thanks to their established reputations, their performances and likeness in the game brings a distinguishing credibility to the franchise for its domestic audience.

Sexy Actresses

In addition, Yakuza has long featured sexy actresses, Japan’s PC way of referring to adult actresses. In the first game, Mihiro, who was the biggest actress of the mid-2000’s, lent her voice (not her likeliness) to a character in a side story. In tradition to how Nagoshi wants to appeal to mature domestic audiences, the inclusion of such celebrities further emphasizes that conceived notion. This feature continues with recent titles (notably 6 and Kiwami 2) with present big name actresses such as Aika, Yua Mikami, Kirara Asuka, and Shoko Takahashi. In 6, it features a webcam chat mini-game where it uses actual recorded footage of actresses, and one of the featured actresses is Anri Okita, who was one of the biggest names of Japan’s adult entertainment industry in the 2010’s! With their inclusion, it helps give a unique boost to the franchise’s appeal, give the actresses international exposure, and showcase their singing abilities through karaoke!

Sports Entertainment/NJPW

Beyond porn, Yakuza 6 and Kiwami 2 feature some of the hottest names from New Japan Pro Wrestling. In 6, there’s a mini-game where Kiryu has to face NJPW champions such as Tetsuya Naito, Hiroshi Tanahashi, and Kazuchika Okada. Just like the other celebrities featured, their voices and likeliness are featured in the game, and have their own roles within the story. When Kiryu has to face these wrestlers one-on-one, they even bust out some of their trademark moves! When you face Tetsuya Naito, he uses his Destino, or when you face Tanahashi, he can take you down with his Sling Blade at full force. If Okada hits you with his Rainmaker, you’re down for the count! For Kiwami 2, this mini-game is repackaged to feature the older talents of NJPW such as Masahiro Chono (the OG nWo leader), Riki Choshu (who was Hulk Hogan’s first opponent in Japan), Keiji Muto, and Tatsumi Fujinami (who you would put on a Mt. Rushmore of Japan’s wrestling industry along with Rikidozan, Antonio Inoki and Giant Baba). While these guys may be old, they still got what it takes to put up a fight!

The Biggest Names in Japan

As the series continued to put out more games and with more sales, the bigger names Sega was able to get! If anything, 6 probably has the biggest ensemble of A-list celebrities you could think of by combining adult, sports, music and mainstream entertainment. Besides NJPW wrestlers and sexy actresses, what more could you ask for? In 6, it featured an ensemble of highly reputable Japanese celebrities such as Shun Oguri (who was in GTO and Gokusen), Tatsuya Fujiwara (Light in the live action Death Note), and Takeshi Kitano! Casting Takeshi Kitano in 6 was a big deal not because of his reputation as an accomplished actor but how he has publicly criticized games and modern technology in the past. Due to him making such statements, it was surprising to have him in the game. The only story we could find why he made it into the game is that him and Nagoshi are friends, and Nagoshi simply asked him to be in the game and he accepted. However, the inclusion of Kitano is just the beginning since the studio’s most recent release, Judgment (or Judge Eyes in Japan), notably features one of Japan’s biggest celebrities, Takuya Kimura. Some of you probably know him as the Japanese voice of Howl from Howl’s Moving Castle, and his inclusion to the Japanese audience was a huge deal. As a result, the game became a huge hit over there.

Music

Not only are we getting the biggest names in Japanese movies, adult entertainment, and sports entertainment, we can’t forget about music! Unfortunately, due to licensing issues, certain songs tend to be cut from international releases. Some big name musicians featured in the franchise are Eikichi Yazawa (who did the opening theme to the third game), Crazy Ken Band (who did December 17 for Yakuza 2), and for the Japanese version of the sixth game, it featured the works of Tatsuro Yamashita, the husband of Mariya Takeuchi, who has become famous on youtube for her 1984 hit, Plastic Love. So if you want to hear Japan’s biggest musicians, Yakuza is it!

Final Thoughts

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="TECA-15691" text="" url="" ]

These reasons largely contribute as to why Yakuza is a unique hit to Japanese audiences. Even so, the inclusions of such big name celebrities can help them get recognized on a global scale that wouldn’t have been possible before. Unfortunately, some of their inclusions have had a downside which we’re covering in our next article as it relates to some controversies.

The perfect collection for any Digimon enthusiast!
  • System: Nintendo Switch
  • Publisher: Bandai Namco Entertainment

Who it Caters to

During the mid 90’s there was the major war between consoles, as Sega, Sony and Nintendo were in constant battle as they fought for the top spot. In the other mainstream arena we had anime, and the two biggest names that resonated with many during that era were Pokémon and Digimon. Pokémon had a head start as it was released in 1996, with Digimon taking off just before the beginning of the new millennium in March of 1999. The two struck a chord with many fans and for a long time, many thought Digimon would soon fall to the wayside, while Pokémon continued to overshadow the series due to its mammoth popularity. However, the beauty about Digimon is that many of the characters felt real, and fans felt that the series provided a more organic emotional experience. Fast forward to today and both franchises still continue to thrive, with Digimon expanding its narrative and giving fans more to offer with regards to Digimon selection, new characters, and new paths to discover. So this brings us to Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth - Complete Edition, the title that brings both worlds together for new and old players to enjoy. Those who have dabbled with Cyber Sleuth but haven’t played Hacker’s Memory can now do so in one package, and entirely new players have the best of both worlds!

What to Expect

A little backstory before jumping in. Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth - Hacker’s Memory is the sequel to Cyber Sleuth, which released back in 2015 and places more emphasis on creating a new narrative, while still sharing locations and elements from the original that made it shine. Players looking to uncover new types of Digimon will be pleased to know that Hacker’s Memory expands upon the current roster of Digimon, encouraging players to do more collecting. The battle system is still turn-based while the exploration portion still remains linear in its design. With a fresh new story to be told, and more secrets to discover, is Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth - Complete Edition the game fans have been waiting for? Keep reading to find out!
[ad_top2 class="mt40 mb40"]

Story

Much of the action in Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth - Complete Edition takes place in the real world of Tokyo, but has players traveling through the digital world of EDEN to uncover more about hacking and how if affects not only humans but the lives of Digimon as well. The stories have different protagonists along with their respective roles within the narrative, but both provide a very interesting take on the Digimon universe in cyberspace EDEN.

Visuals

Much like Cyber Sleuth, Hacker’s Memory takes on a more realistic approach, giving characters more emotion and relatability. The overall environmental design is stellar in regards to how in-game Tokyo accurately reflects that of the actual location itself, albeit some store name changes to avoid any conflict. The digital cyberspace that is EDEN is also put together very nicely and helps to create this beautiful contrast between the real world and the digital one. Players will likely find themselves absorbed in all of the action as the Digimon in battle are animated superbly, with each Digimon having their own distinct characteristics that make them cool to watch. Overall animations are well designed but it’s clear that there are some areas which require fine tuning, such as lip syncing.

Sound, Music

While we certainly can praise the story, gameplay, and vivid visuals that help to create a wonderful world to travel around, both games seem to struggle in the sound department. Much of the music in the game of course tries to maintain harmony with its very futuristic setting, but falls short due to its repetitiveness and bland delivery. The music in the game could have certainly been better, perhaps taking some elements from real life artists, and then adding cool elements behind it. The generic sounding music felt more like a distraction and didn’t really help to add emotion to the game, which in itself is fantastic. Creating a different mixture of sounds would’ve been awesome, like adding futuristic rock or upbeat techno during battles, then perhaps some soothing house music as you wander around both the real world and EDEN.

Gameplay

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth - Complete Edition is truly the best combination you could possibly make for Digimon fans. Both games are superb in their own right and do a stellar job of creating a world that both humans and Digimon can thrive in. Every character you encounter carries their own burden which helps to create a strong and impactful story, rather than just a thrown together piece that doesn’t serve any purpose. Tie that in with spectacular turn-based gameplay and you have an amazing RPG on the Switch. The way in which you can utilize multiple Digimon on the fly is awesome, and as you progress through the game you can increase your party size via Party Memory chips. This in a way, creates a unique challenge early on in the game since you’re quite limited to how many Digimon you can carry, so it encourages you to be mindful of your strategy when engaging in battles. Now of course this can be seen as a negative for some players, since having a limited party can create some problems if you aren’t careful, but also limits the amount of variety in terms of counter play and safety precautions. Early in the game you start off with 20, with each increment of your memory increasing by 5 over time. In most cases you can carry around 4 depending on how much memory your Digimon takes up, but as mentioned before you’ll be able to carry more later. The game pushes you to be critical of your selection and not just going after your favorite Digimon to fill the void, since it may not always work in your favor. Another thing to be mindful of aren’t just attributes but also affinities and so now it’s not just about Vaccine versus Virus, but now players must take into consideration the various elements. This of course is a quintessential aspect of RPGs and so it makes sense to incorporate into the Digimon world, and it does an excellent job of doing so.
[ad_middle class="mt40 mb40"]

Honey's Gameplay Consensus:

Be that as it may, both games do suffer from some depth, and by that we mean things often felt too linear in regards to the direction players were headed. This isn’t saying that linear games are bad but we wish the series would expand more on just where we could travel, giving players more freedom rather than locking us into specific locations. Having a linear story is great since you don’t have to concern yourself with how things turn out, but the overall adventure portion of the game would be considerably better if we could do more. Let us travel by train, or by bike, or hop on one of our Digimon and let them fly us to the next destination. Things like these are what we mean by creating more freedom and allowing for a more open world, especially since the amount of Digimon you can find has expanded.

Honey's Pros:

  • Great stories in both titles, with each showing you a different side of the EDEN universe.
  • Fantastic gameplay and diversity among Digimon
  • Being able to compete with other players online is actually quite cool, and you can really test your skills at any time.
  • The Digifarm mechanic is a nice way to level up your Digimon who aren't able to join your party, or just need a bit more strength.

Honey's Cons:

  • Please allow players to use the camera options more. Not being able to turn the camera in any direction was annoying at times.
  • Improving on the music would certainly help to bring the game to life more.
  • Animations could use a little more fine tuning but nothing too crazy.
  • Leveling up at times did feel a bit easy so hopefully in new versios, this can be altered to create more challenge/depth.

Honey's Final Verdict:

In the end, Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth - Complete Edition is the culmination of two amazing games in one package. That’s a huge plus for us since it allows you to play through either game at your own pace, and having that option to choose is key. Some players may have already finished one and so having the other right there waiting for you, without having to pay extra, is a smart move by Bandai Namco and we praise that. The gameplay serves the series well and as mentioned, we hope the series can expand upon this by allowing for more freedom in all areas. Improve the music and sound while continuing to deliver with an impactful story that keeps us engaged. If there’s ever going to be a new title then hopefully these additions will be implemented! Until next time!

One Piece: Stampede Introduction and Story

The much-celebrated One Piece franchise’s 14th film/20th anniversary of the anime adaptation’s airing is finally upon us as we get to watch a pair of dangerous new villains draw the Strawhat Pirates, Heart Pirates, Barto Club Pirates, Kid Pirates, Buggy Pirates, Drake Pirates, Foxy Pirates and even more superpowered pirates than you can shake a sea-prism stone at into a day of exciting competition that quickly turns into thrilling combat.

Why You Should Watch One Piece: Stampede
    [sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="NEOGDS-339014" text="" url="" ]

    1. Squash and Stretch

Toei Animation’s animated adaptation of One Piece has earned a bit of a sour reputation from hardcore manga fans for often being barely animated at all. Thankfully, Toei seems to have learned from their mistakes and have been consistently raising the bar for One Piece animation over the past 2 years or so. The TV series has been slowly reducing its constant tweens and obnoxiously long panning stills, new OVAs have been retelling previous story arcs with updated visuals and we still get the occasional theatrical film to show us what the franchise can look like with a bigger budget. The movement in this film is nowhere close to matching the likes of Dragon Ball Super: Broly, but nonetheless remains a step above your average TV production values which go a long way in selling the franchise's vibrant world (seeing Monkey D. Luffy animated like he's really made of rubber is an especially noteworthy feature). The visuals in this film were so on point, even the CG looked good, something we only wish we could say for more anime.

    2. Staging

The story is set in a massive festival for pirates from all around One Piece’s world, which gives the plot the perfect reason to turn the film into the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate of One Piece stories. Though not quite everyone is here, those that are bountifully represent the series’ major factions and the fact that almost all of them get a piece of the action gives the film a feeling worthy of its subtitle.

    3. Overlapping Action

Anyone who comes to Stampede for its action sequences will leave a happy viewer. From the race in the first act to the fights that constitute just about everything else in the movie, the choreography and animation are clear and exciting, which is an indispensable quality when juggling multiple ongoing battles the way Stampede does. The best part of the combat is the way the film thrusts its characters into confrontations we may never see in-canon. It doesn’t do it as much as we’d like and most of these fights last less than a minute anyway, but seeing Sanji vs. Smoker with our very own eyes was entirely worth it.

    [ad_middle class="mt40"]
Why You Should Skip One Piece: Stampede

    1. Arc

Character growth—be it from heroes, villains or side-characters—has always been the driving force behind One Piece's story, but Stampede is completely devoid of that, as its cast finishes the film with the same characterization as when it started. Some character arcs and developmental moments are included, but they're all retreads of things that already happened in the canon story. The fact that the film does not fit into said canon could be seen by some as a defense to this, but it introduces several original characters who remain completely static throughout its 100-minute run time. The worst offender is the character Ann, who is introduced as an assistant-MC for the pirate festival who has the power to make any illustration she sees real, two details that never affect the story in any way as she completely disappears by the second act. Guess she must have used her power to bring Chekhov's Gun into the movie.

    2. Timing

Although stampedes are exciting, they’re also incredibly disorganized, which sums up One Piece: Stampede perfectly. As the Strawhat crew expands as the series continues, its films seem to have a harder and harder time giving them something to do and Stampede only exacerbated that issue by throwing in as many established side-characters as it could fit. Sure, it's great seeing memorable characters who haven't gotten enough love from the canon story when they have something to do, but only half a dozen or so stay relevant throughout the story, as most are only seen in pace-killing cutaways after the movie’s midpoint. But don't worry, other secondary cast members will soon show up to try to leave their mark on the picture. Too bad you'll have to watch them listen to a recap of everything you just watched before they get the chance. Cutting to side-characters talking is a common trope in shonen battle anime, but when it only serves to give redundant information, you’ll be forgiven for checking your watch.

    3. Exaggeration

These filler anime films based on popular manga are, of course, incapable of doing anything that would affect the story past their own end-credits, so when movies like Stampede pretend to have stakes that will completely change the series’ world in an attempt to inflate their importance in the eyes of the fans, nobody is fooled. The object being fought over in this particular feature is a key to finding the One Piece, a treasure so important to the narrative that the series is named after it. Of course, this ends up going absolutely nowhere, leaving the characters no closer to the eponymous boon than they were before and of course, this bait-and-switch is incredibly obvious from the moment it's brought up. A story needs consequences to get its audience invested, but false consequence is the same as having none at all.

    Final Thoughts

One Piece: Stampede is a fairly average anime filler movie. It displays appealing production values put to good use on fanservice and action sequences but doesn't add anything beyond that and its bloated cast can make getting to those qualities less worthwhile. Be sure to let us know in the comments what you thought of One Piece: Stampede and, while you’re there, let us know which character you want to see in the next film.

On June 2019, the fourth installment of Level 5’s Youkai Watch series was released in Japan (with an international release scheduled for December 2019). The game received a 37/40 in Japan’s prestigious Famitsu magazine, and was a modest hit. However, prior to its release, the series had one of the most sudden rises throughout the decade to the point that its popularity eclipsed Pokemon in Japan, and then it just suddenly dropped like it was a one hit wonder. So, how do we chronicle its unique rise and fall, and its semi-return to relevancy? Allow us to share you how!

    Inspiration from Doraemon

Despite its notable comparisons and competition with Pokemon, the conception of Youkai Watch actually takes inspiration from Doraemon, and Akihiro Hino, the CEO of Level 5, thoroughly researched it to understand how to make a franchise last long-term. Initially, Hino and Level 5 wanted to make a Doraemon game but regardless, they wanted to make something that would keep interest in the long run. The game would then debut in 2013 for the Nintendo 3DS, and would be an instant success to the point that it became a multi-media franchise.

    Bigger Than Pokemon

Midway into the 2010’s, Youkai Watch was all the rage in Japan to the point that it was bigger than Pokemon! Thanks to an anime, manga, toys, and even an exercise song, it was almost at every corner you would turn throughout the Land of the Rising Sun. While Pokemon’s domestic influences were subliminal, the use of youkai, or supernatural beings, was very direct with its cultural inspirations and its domestic audiences could identify with the material. Plus, its aggressive marketing campaign in appealing to its target audience certainly helped.

    Merchandising and Marketing Disaster

The first step in its unfortunate fall Youkai Watch involved a fiasco with its toys. Due to technical difficulties with how some toys weren’t compatible with some medals and that its second line was for a new line of medals that weren’t compatible with the first line, it created some frustration with parents. Plus, the franchise faced an over-saturation with its merchandising to the point that supply was exceeding demand despite initial shortages to the point that they instantly ended up in the bargain bin. As its domestic audience was getting older, the marketing team thought it would be a good idea of keeping in tune with that respective audience as opposed to children. For example, they attempted to make a movie by making it more mature and horror oriented, and it wasn’t well-received. In other instances, they released mobile games which would appeal to older gamers, but they didn’t garner the success they expected. Then with the release of Pokemon Go, Pokemon just took back its number one spot not just in Japan, but in a world wide scale and with a vengeance.

Failure to Capture an International Audience

One particular factor that didn’t help Youkai Watch as a whole is that it didn’t get the same international popularity that Pokemon always had. Its first game would get an international release towards the end of 2015, but its success never measured up to Pokemon’s. While Pokemon is obviously Japanese, it’s easier to localize due to how the environments and characters are flexibly designed to suit just about any audience. With Youkai Watch, it’s obviously more Japanese in nature and those qualities only appeal to a cult audience. With the release and tremendous success of Pokemon Go shortly after, Youkai Watch was in no position to gain that popularity outside of Japan.

    Final Thoughts

    [sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="HAC-P-AS5JA" text="" url="" ]

At this point, we don’t think this is the end of Youkai Watch, but it will never regain its crown, and that’s OK. Some experts say that Youkai Watch doesn’t exactly keep its appeal once you get a little older, while something like Pokemon does. In other words, they should just keep on appealing to kids for generations to come. Youkai Watch certainly had a very unique run for when it was on top, and made us realize that fads may come and go, but it doesn’t necessarily mean they didn’t have appeal to begin with. It doesn’t necessarily demonstrate that Hino and Level 5 didn’t exactly apply their research in means of making it last in the long term, but merely didn’t keep its position as the number one franchise for children. Does a franchise have to be number one to stay relevant? At this point with a new release for modern consoles, its recent success proves it doesn’t have to. Youkai Watch will probably stay around for the long run but will never be number one again. As long as they don’t mess up with their toys and keep their anime running, people will still acknowledge and enjoy it.

Top 5 Emotional Scenes in Granbelm

Granbelm was one of the most surprising anime from this season! The series started out slowly but picked up toward the end with far more emotion than we would have expected. Mangetsu Kohinata continually thought she had nothing in her life, but meeting Shingetsu Ernesta, Fukami ended up changing her perspective forever. In many ways, the setting reflected Mangetsu’s own outlook on her life—perfectly average on the surface, but the magic lies buried beneath it if you look hard enough for it. Like any other dark magical anime, there were plenty of tragedies we saw along the way as each character struggled to win Granbelm! We wanted to point out a few of the most emotionally impacting scenes in Granbelm, everything from the epic fights to the characters discovering truths about themselves. Most of the more powerful moments are from the latter half of the show when the characters were developed further, though we did enjoy the series as a whole.

    5. An Alternate Ending – Episode 6

    [sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="https://www.crunchyroll.com/granbelm/episode-6-magic-stones-787011" ]

Shingetsu has been protecting Anna Fugo from the truth, but Anna is finally told that she will never succeed as a mage. The revelation crushes both of them but Anna seems to take it better than we would expect her to. The ending music begins to play when out of nowhere, the music stops altogether. We then see Anna, having attempted to kill her mother, laughing brokenly while she opens the box with the family magic stone. Though it was obvious that Anna was losing her grip on life, this scene was so unexpected that it will never be forgotten! The way that the ending so casually played up until that point was brilliant, and played into the true shock factor of seeing Anna having finally lost her mind.

    4. Kuon Learns of Her Sister’s Plan – Episode 10

For Kuon Tsuchimikado, most of Granbelm has been spent striving to get a better life for her older sister who is lying mentally damaged after her own fight. Kuon is desperate to heal Shisui, so when she discovers that Suishou Hakamada was the cause behind it all, she uses everything she has to defeat her. Kuon can’t seem to find the strength to do so until she realizes that her sister had purposefully implanted herself within Suishou so that Kuon and Shisui could win together. Despite Kuon eventually losing the fight and disappearing from existence, this moment was powerful and gave a bit of hope for the other mages, as Shisui was saved in the end. It was truly a testament to the bond between families!

    3. Mangetsu Discovers Her True Nature – Episode 10

    [sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="https://www.crunchyroll.com/granbelm/episode-10-the-pensive-doll-787015" ]

Mangetsu has puzzled everyone from the beginning, as she seemed to get into Granbelm by happenstance yet boasted incredible power. She does not discover the real reasons why until almost the end of the show, when Suishou reveals that Mangetsu is actually a doll brought to life by Shingetsu’s wish. This was another shocking moment that we weren’t expecting at all, one that came with plenty of raw emotion for Mangetsu! Of course, it would be strange to learn that you did not really exist, except with the borrowed magic of another person! The initial discovery and Mangetsu’s reactions right after it are indeed a memorable part of Granbelm.

    2. Shingetsu Completes Her Wish – Episode 13

Shingetsu has always claimed she would win Granbelm and get rid of all magic in the world, but when she finally reaches her final test, the figures from her past are asking her if she really wants to go through with it. Suishou’s figure tells her that she will be forgotten in the world, meaning all the mages from Granbelm will no longer be remembered, including Shingetsu. Despite all the pain that might come with her loneliness, Shingetsu remembers Mangetsu’s bravery in death, and sees her dream through. Though it is a tragic victory, we do get some hope when a girl that looks like Mangetsu arrives in Shingetsu’s classroom, causing Shingetsu’s translucent figure to regain a bit of form. This was such an emotional moment, and a powerful way for the series to go out!

    1. Mangetsu’s Goodbye – Episode 11

    [sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="https://www.crunchyroll.com/granbelm/episode-11-even-if-my-goodbye-doesnt-reach-you-787016" ]

One of the most tragic discoveries was that Mangetsu would have to die in order for Shingetsu’s dream to be realized. Mangetsu bravely takes the fall for her friend, going on one final camping trip with everyone and then carving her goodbye into the sky with fireworks before vanishing. When Shingetsu catches up to her, Mangetsu delivers one of her best speeches in Granbelm, talking about how much she appreciates the little things in her life and asking Shingetsu to follow through no matter what. Though Shingetsu has always been the braver and stronger one, Mangetsu has taken the pain from learning what she is and made herself a better person. This moment showcases how much growth she has had, and we won’t soon forget her last few sacrificial moments!

    Final Thoughts

Granbelm was an anime full of surprises at every turn! From characters losing their sanity to others sacrificing their lives for another, we will remember this dark magical girl anime for a long time to come. What did you think of Granbelm? Nobody can deny that oppai, breasts, have been quite a feature in gaming these past 30 years. With the way technology has been evolving since gaming debuted, some developers have taken such advancements with some…unique liberties. It has been both funny and undeniably controversial, but they’ve always been part of entertainment whether it would be for comedic or pornographic purposes. One of the first instances of big breasts being featured in gaming is the Atari 2600 Custard’s Revenge where players assume the role of the infamous General Custard as he they must guide him through a rain of arrows to penetrate a naked ingenious female with big breasts. However, breasts as we see them in a more comedic sense originates to Fatal Fury 2 with the inclusion of Mai Shiranui. It’s not just that her costume that is rather revealing, just how it was one of the first games to have bouncing physics. Since then, some games have taken inspiration with that and to brand new heights. Beyond your mainstream consumer games, there are also hentai games that obviously have to have them, and that’s virtually every hentai game you can think of. So for today’s list…we’re going to give you our Top 10 Games with the Best Oppai!

    10. Girl Fight

    [en][information_general item1 = "System" content1="PS3, Xbox 360" item2="Publisher" content2="Majesco" item3="Developer" content3="Kung Fu Factory/MicroProse" item4="Release Dates" content4="September 24, 2013" post_id="" ][/en]

While we can agree this may not be the best fighting game of all time, if you just want the novelty of the breasts being emphasized, then we still recommend Girl Fight strictly for that. True to its name, this game exclusively features female characters in this cyberpunk 3D fighter as they wear skimpy outfits that mostly cover the bare essentials. Due to it being faster paced than let’s say DoA (while we’re going to get to), it doesn’t really have the opportunity to emphasize on bouncing breasts. However, as long as you have their front side facing the screen, all is good. Some of the characters featured are a generic cyberpunk character, a cowgirl, a samurai, and a French revolutionary, but with their costumes modified to emphasize their sexiness for some decent service!

    9. Metro: Last Light

If you thought Donald Trump’s alleged collusion with the Ukraine was one thing, little did we know that there were game developers in that nation as that is where 4A Games is based out of. So, what can they contribute to this list? Metro: Last Night! In this first person shooter, not only can you shoot enemies in first person, you can get a lap dance from a topless dancer who has a nice pair of breasts and you can get a view of them in first person! If you’re into women with nice breasts, nice thighs, and Eastern European accents, then we recommend this game for this scene alone!

    8. Criminal Girls 2: Party Favors

    [sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="VLJM-30155" text="" url="" ]
    [en][information_general item1 = "System" content1="PlayStation Vita, PC" item2="Publisher" content2="Nippon Ichi Software (Japan), NIS America (North America)" item3="Developer" content3="Nippon Ichi Software" item4="Release Dates" content4="November 26, 2015 (Japan), October 11, 2016 (North America)" post_id="" ][/en]

Forget Orange is the New Black, if you want a story about female prisoners, then you have to play Criminal Girls 2! Well, you’re not exactly in a women’s prison in this game, but in a dungeon of Hell where its cast members are wearing the traditional black and white striped uniforms. While it normally plays like your typical J-RPG, it has some “elements” that allows itself to prominently showcase the oppai of its cast members. If we could recommend shock jock Howard Stern any game, it would probably have to be Criminal Girls 2! So, what are the features that we recommend it for? Well, there’s a mini-game where you get to engage in S&M with the girls in order to “motivate” them. While playing these games are optional ...they do help…and you do get the perfect view of their breasts!

    7. Bayonetta

    [sourceLink asin="B001YHX4B0" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
    [en][information_general item1 = "System" content1="Multiplatform" item2="Publisher" content2="Sega" item3="Developer" content3="PlatinumGames" item4="Release Dates" content4="October 29, 2009 (Japan), January 5, 2010 (North America)" post_id="" ][/en]

Brought to you by Hideki Kamiya, the creator of Devil May Cry, we have Bayonetta, another action hit title. As for it featuring oppai, that’s partially the intention of this game when you look at the titular character, Bayonetta. With her long legs and arms, what couldn’t complete that more than a perfect pair of profound breasts? Ok, so they’re not bare like a Playboy centerfold, but she covers herself with a spandex suit to leave what her figure looks like to the imagination. Granted they have no function, but they’re a great fashion to grasp players. While Bayonetta is a witch, that doesn’t mean she can exercise her right to bear arms as she takes out the evil forces of Scandinavian mythology.

    6. Tomb Raider

If any female gaming character can be considered the industry’s first sex symbol, it has to be Lara Croft from Tomb Raider. While her debut in 1996 may be considered primitive by today’s standards, at the time, it was considered state of the art. With her short-shorts emphasizing on her legs and ass and her tight tank top hugging her breasts, she became an instant icon. With her supermodel looks, there were rumors that you could play as her nude (you have to keep in mind that the internet was in its infancy when the game came out)! Many wanted to see her nude and eventually, fans kind of got what they wanted when British model Nell McAndrew, who used to be the official real life model for Lara, posed for Playboy in 1999 as she paid homage to the character. However, it wasn’t her sexy image that made her an icon, many gamers also loved how she could kick ass during a time when there were not so many female characters in games who could. As the franchise rebooted earlier in the decade, her breasts were reduced but in the end, it wasn’t the breasts that made the character, it was her will and brains.

    5. Lollipop Chainsaw

    [sourceLink asin="B005J5K9EI" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
    [en][information_general item1 = "System" content1="PS3, Xbox 360" item2="Publisher" content2="Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment" item3="Developer" content3="Grasshopper Manufacture" item4="Release Dates" content4="June 12, 2012" post_id="" ][/en]

Shortly before director James Gunn became a household name through Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, he contributed to the cult hit game, Lollipop Chainsaw, a comedic hack and slash game. This is one of the very few games in which Western and Japanese developers collaborated to mix elements of their pop culture in this one hit wonder. So beyond killing zombies with a chainsaw, what does it have to do with oppai? It mostly goes back to Juliet’s outfit in which her tank top exclusively covers her a good majority of her breasts…and they’re profound to the point that cosplay model Jessica Nigri was officially the character’s booth model for E3 2012! Not only do you see her wearing her skimpy cheerleader outfit, there are scenes where you can have her wear a skimpy seashell bikini as well, which also emphasize her figure, most notably her breasts (she’s got a pretty face, nice legs, and ass, too). So, if you want a sexy woman who can kick ass (and try not to get distracted), you’ll get a kick out of this game!

    4. Catherine: Full Body

    [sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="PLJM-16152" text="" url="" ]
    [en][information_general item1 = "System" content1="PS4, PS Vita" item2="Publisher" content2="Atlus (Japan), Sega (North America)" item3="Developer" content3="Atlus" item4="Release Dates" content4="February 14, 2019 (Japan), September 3, 2019 (North America)" post_id="" ][/en]
    [es][information_general item1 = "Compañía" content1="___content1___" item2="Lanzamiento" content2="___content2___" item3="Géneros" content3="___content3___" item4="Plataforma" content4="___content4___" post_id="" ][/es]

This edition to 2011’s Catherine isn’t merely a port, but a remake programmed from the start with Persona 5’s engine. Despite being a remake, a large portion of Full Body is still fundamentally the same game as the original, but introduces a new character, Rin, another romantic interest for Vincent. To put this game in a nutshell, if you could make a psychedelic experience as a video game, then Catherine is it. So, what does it have to do with oppai? A lot of things. Considering Vincent’s trippy plight as he is torn between Katherine, his real girlfriend, and Catherine, a girl he is having a sexual relationship with, that’s just the tip of the iceberg. As it relates to Vincent’s story, exposure to such things are natural as things progress. While the oppai featured here aren’t as exaggerated as lets say compared to other games on this list, what’s featured here seems more “realistic,” or “relatable” if that’s the right word to use (is there in this instance?). When it comes to the true nature of Catherine, it’s only in her nature to emphasize on that part of her anatomy. As for Katherine, while she tends to be fully clothed with long sleeved shirts, it’s still tight enough to see she’s got quite the pair.

    3. Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash

    [sourceLink asin="B071FN5SSD" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
    [en][information_general item1 = "System" content1="PS4, PC" item2="Publisher" content2="Marvelous Inc (Japan), XSEED Games (North America)" item3="Developer" content3="Tamsoft" item4="Release Dates" content4="March 16, 2017 (Japan), September 26, 2017 (North America)" post_id="" ][/en]

OK, we have popular third person shooting games like Fortnite and Overwatch, and we have games that take the genre to creative heights like Splatoon, where you use paint as opposed to bullets. What if you could just replace it with anime girls in swimsuits and with squirt guns? That’s what you get with Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash! The game is pretty much a case of what you see is what you get. Beyond the generic shooting, there are certain special attacks that allow you to “attack” your opponents breasts and have their tops fly off (with nipples censored of course). However, you don’t have just any water guns, there are some water guns that have various abilities just like firearms in regular shooters. Some specialize in short range shooting, and there are some with long range. So, if you’re looking for a good time and a good laugh with anime girls in bikinis shooting each other with water guns, then Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash is exactly what you’re looking for!

    2. Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix

    [en][information_general item1 = "System" content1="PS1" item2="Publisher" content2="Eidos Interactive" item3="Developer" content3="Kronos Digital Entertainment " item4="Release Dates" content4="February 21, 2001 " post_id="" ][/en]

In this cult classic that dates back to the original PS1, we have Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix. Despite having the 2 label, it’s actually a prequel to the first game! Upon its release, it was coming off the coattails of Resident Evil but not without its own distinctions. Along with Sega’s Jet Set Radio for the Dreamcast, Fear Effect is also one of the first games to implement cel-shaded graphics. So, what does it have to do with oppai? The game is full of emphasizing on the breasts of two of its four playable characters, Hana and Rain, who also happen to be in a relationship, which was considered controversial and groundbreaking at that time! Whether you play as Hana or Rain, their leotard/spandex outfits tend to be unzipped at the front as it allows both of their breasts to be profound as you guide them through a dystopian/cyberpunk Hong Kong. There are also instances you have the characters having them only wear their towels after coming out of the shower, and there are also instances of when Hana wears a cocktail dress that is also rather revealing, but enough to cover up and leave more to the imagination. Last, there are scenes where you do get to see these co-leads in their underwear as well! And did we mention there is also a scene where Hana flashes her breasts in order to distract a guard?

    1. Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Fortune

    [sourceLink asin="B01J4K0IW6" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
    [en][information_general item1 = "System" content1="PS4" item2="Publisher" content2="Koei Tecmo Games" item3="Developer" content3="Team Ninja" item4="Release Dates" content4="March 24, 2016" post_id="" ][/en]
    [es][information_general item1 = "Compañía" content1="___content1___" item2="Lanzamiento" content2="___content2___" item3="Géneros" content3="___content3___" item4="Plataforma" content4="___content4___" post_id="" ][/es]

As you probably guessed, for a list like this, we have to give number 1 to the Dear or Alive spin off series, Xtreme. Despite the first two games having an international release, this third installment has remained exclusive to the East since its debut. Many think its because of the whole GamerGate controversy that started has prevented its release to the West. Shuhei Yoshida, the president of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios, pretty much indicated that by saying that due to “cultural differences,” Japan and the West have different ideas of portraying women in gaming. Putting that aside, if you’ve played the first two editions, this third installment carries on the tradition of its predecessors by having the female characters of the Dead or Alive franchise come to the beach (the island of the Dennis Rodman look alike, and no, he will not be wearing a bikini or wedding dress!), wear the tiniest of bikinis, and engage in all kinds of fun activities such as volleyball, capture the flag, rock climbing, poker, and you can watch gravure videos of them in VR as well! The game also has some dating sim elements for you to have a good time. Many of the women featured in this game have breasts that probably rival some of Japan’s top sexy actresses and gravure models such as Kaho Shibuya (who happens to be a fan of Honey’s Anime)! Of course, no DoA game can ever be complete without bouncing breasts! While Mai from Fatal Fury may have been the first character to feature bouncing breasts, the Dead or Alive made its bread and butter on them since the franchise’s debut in the arcades, PS1, and Saturn! As Rodney King once said, “can’t we all just get along?” After all, the girls of Dead or Alive can put their differences aside and have a good time on the beach, so why can’t we?

    [sourceLink asin="B01J4K0IW6" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]

    Final Thoughts

Even before Mai’s breasts kickstarted the whole bouncing craze, breasts have been used as a target of humor in gaming for years. Ever since the first Dragon Quest, there have been jokes where a woman with profound breasts is willing to “pafu pafu” the hero to make him feel better. Apparently, this was a Toriyama originated joke as “pafu pafu” is kind of a Japanese equivalent to motor boating (but without the ridiculous sounds). In all the games, you don’t physically see it happening but when it does happen, the screen turns dark and you just have your imagination to run with. While modern day technology and standards, things have taken to new heights we couldn’t imagine since baby boomers were playing pong. Today, we now have games that love to emphasize on breasts for the sake of humor and service. Some games that have such characters are all style, and there are those that have substance. Either way, we’re positive that our top 10 selections can balance style and substance.

Summer season 2019 had its list of great shows and Uchi no Ko is one of them. Possibly one of the cutest shows we’ve seen all year, Uchi no Ko follows a young adventurer who adopts a demon child after finding her in the woods. The series is quite laid-back for the most part and is perfect for easy viewing, so with that in mind, we’re going over our five favourite scenes from Uchi no Ko!

    1. Latina Helps at the Restaurant for the First Time – Episode 2

    [sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="https://www.crunchyroll.com/if-its-for-my-daughter-id-even-defeat-a-demon-lord/episode-4-the-little-girl-and-the-incident-786961" ]

At the restaurant while Rita serves the bar’s other customers, an observant Latina sees her taking used crockery to the back to be washed. Latina finishes her meal and proceeds to take some of the other plates, one by one. It was absolutely adorable watching the very small Latina slowly and carefully carry plates to avoid breaking them; however, it was also a great moment for her as a character because it was an indication of her intelligence and kind, responsible personality.

    2. Latina Removes Her Horn – Episode 4

After starting school alongside human children, Latina experiences a traumatic experience at the hands of one of the teachers. The teacher called Latina a monster because she is a demon, heavily discriminating against her in front of all the other students. Distressed, Latina goes home and severely injures herself while trying to use magic to remove her horn. The scene is incredibly dark and stands out even more given the happy-go-lucky vibe of the rest of the show. The incident proved to be a small bit of worldbuilding too!

    3. Latina Makes Friends – Episode 2

    [sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]

Soon after Dale adopts Latina, he has to head out to a mission and leaves Latina in the care of Kenneth and Rita. Kenneth has errands to run, so Latina goes into the town with him; however, she gets distracted by a street performance and loses him. Frantic, Latina’s situation seems hopeless, until she runs into some other children who help her. They later become her schoolmates and close friends.

    4. Latina Learns to Speak – Episode 2

When Latina is first found in the forest, the only language she speaks is the Demon Tongue. Dale is only able to talk to her in broken Demon Tongue; however, after the first night living with Dale, Latina put her big brain to work and started learning the basics. When she learned to say “it’s okay”, it really felt like everything was going to be okay!

    5. RIBBONS AND PONYTAILS – Episode 1

After getting Latina a bath and a change of clothes, Dale’s friend, Rita, decides to have a little bit of fun with Latina’s appearance. She whips out two bright red ribbons and ties Latina’s hair in adorable twin ponytails. This becomes Latina’s normal look throughout the show and it made everything at least ten times cuter!

    Final Thoughts

In many ways, Uchi no Ko is the kind of show that just feels like a warm hug or a mug of coffee in the morning. It is wholesome and perhaps that’s the biggest problem – with so much wholesomeness, it gets difficult trying to pick out the best five scenes. That’s where you come in! Are there other Uchi no Ko scenes you think deserve some extra appreciation? Drop a comment below and let us know what you think!

Oono Akira is a Game Manager for Infinity Game. While logged in one day, Akira is transported to the world of the game and dons the body of his in-game persona, Demon Lord Kunai Hakuto. He then meets Aku, a girl with a troubled past and they begin travelling together; however, the incredible strength of the Demon Lord attracts many enemies and so Akira must thwart the attempts of entire countries looking to defeat the Demon Lord! We’ve seen this concept several times in the past, so it doesn’t feel all that new or unfamiliar in any way. A regular guy finds himself trapped in a videogame or in a world akin to one and must find out how exactly their new world works. In that regard, it greatly reflects certain base tropes concerned with the Isekai concept and can therefore be compared to other shows.

Why You Should Watch Maou-sama, Retry! (Demon Lord, Retry!)
    [sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B07WBYFPCH" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]

    1. Adventure

While the plot isn’t necessarily anything new or special, Maou-sama, Retry! is a decent adventure – we’re thrown into the mix the same way Oono Akira is thrown into the new world. A lot of moderately interesting things happen and new characters important to the plot do not waste much time in making their appearance. It is a bona fide adventure series and from that perspective, it is worth the watch.

    2. Action-packed

Being a series primarily concerned with the adventures of the main character and his side-kick, Maou-sama, Retry! is not shy when it comes to bringing in the action! With so many people baying for the blood of the Demon Lord, we are almost guaranteed some juicy conflict in every episode.

    [ad_middle class="mt40"]
Why You Should Skip Maou-sama, Retry! (Demon Lord, Retry!)

    1. It’s Really Nothing New

Being an Isekai anime, Maou-sama, Retry! is admittedly already under heavy scrutiny from many viewers; however, it is the fact that it uses the Isekai trope and various other related tropes and does nothing particularly different. In that case, it feels like one could’ve been better off watching something with the same tropes – Overlord, or even How Not to Summon a Demon Lord come up almost immediately when following that thought.

    2. Dull Protagonist

Unfortunately, Oono Akira’s revival as the Demon Lord isn’t all that interesting as he seems to lack something many other protagonists of Isekai shows have. There is very little about Akira that leaves viewers wanting to know more; he’s a straight-forward regular dude caught in a game world he knows very well; like many other Isekai protagonists.

    Final Thoughts

Perhaps the Isekai trope receives much more criticism than it deserves. However, the trope itself is highly self-referential and so it makes sense that certain things can’t be done the same way each time. Demon Lord, Retry! is a decent watch, but only if one isn’t too familiar with what the show is trying to do. We’re probably better off watching similar to Demon Lord, Retry! than watching the show itself and that’s the most disappointing aspect.

August 2019 was, so far, the worst month for hentai—no new titles, just a handful of shows with only two great ones. Studio T-Rex is still leading the pack in terms of providing a good number of high quality hentai titles. Ecchi na Onee-chan ni Shiboraretai and Master Piece The Animation are still great titles to check out, but at this point, studio T-Rex titles will begin to look like each other because the studio tends to stick with one visual aesthetic and animation style. To studio T-Rex’s credit, though, they do try to follow the art style of the titles they’re adapting. Anyways, September 2019 marks the end of the hentai drought because, oh boy, Japan bounced back with 11 hentai titles. There are two new shows and new episodes of past greats, so there are a lot to choose from. But of course, are all of these hentai titles actually good? For our Top 5 Hentai Anime of September 2019, we’ve listed 5 hentai titles we think are the best from September 2019, and from the looks of it, you will not be disappointed. Now then, are you excited? We sure are!

    5. Jitaku Keibiin (2019) — Episode 4

The story of our resourceful but resentful home security expert Tsunetaka continues with his sexual assault towards Katsuragi Sayaka. Using the video recordings of Sayaka masturbating and having sex as blackmail, Tsunetaka relentlessly fucks Sayaka whenever and wherever he pleases—Be it in the hallway, bedroom, bathroom or even the living room, Tsunetaka’s hidden cameras capture every ugly detail. We’re still not sure how raping the girls until they become Tsunetaka’s sex slaves is an effective way of driving them out of the house, though… Episode 4 concludes the Sayaka arc and, well, the ending wasn’t as shocking (literally speaking) as Yuki’s arc, but it was a “good” ending. Tsunetaka went overboard with his raping and got Sayaka pregnant before they were driven out and a few months later, Sayaka goes back to Tsunetaka’s home to tell him the news. Instead of going batshit like Yuki, Sayaka wants to be with Tsunetaka and the two celebrate their reunion with more fucking. Is Jitaku Keibiin (2019) finished? We certainly hope not because there’s still the stepmother Katsuragi Shouko and a possible threesome arc between Tsunetaka, Sayaka, and Yuki. At any rate, episode 4 is great overall if you’re into fucking pregnant women while not clenching to your balls because there is no taser this time, you’ll definitely love this episode.

    4. Shoujo Kyouiku RE — Episode 2

    [sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="dmm" url="https://www.dmm.co.jp/mono/anime/-/detail/=/cid=h_402mjad257/?i3_ref=search&i3_ord=2" ]

Nana pretends she’s scared to sleep alone and convinces her big brother to sleep together. You see, Nana loves her big brother so much that she wants to have sex with him and have his baby. But Nana’s plan didn’t work as planned because after inviting him to sleep over in her room, big brother is fast asleep and had no intention of fucking her. But Nana is a determined little girl and she’s not about to give up her dreams of having an incestuous relationship with her big brother. Just like the previous episode, the story and character development are lacking or non-existent, but Shoujo Kyouiku RE episode 2 gives enough context behind the sex. And as for the sex, WHOO BOY, watching a grown man fucking an under-developed girl that is half his size is like watching someone committing an actual crime… and you’ll get arrested too because you watched the whole thing. Shoujo Kyouiku RE episode 2 holds nothing back with grade A loli, so you better make sure to watch this hentai in complete secrecy. Jesus-fucking-Christ...

    3. Shishunki Sex — Episode 2

During a typical biology class, the topic is human anatomy, specifically, the human reproductive system and its functions. One of the students, Hana, is amazed at the wealth of knowledge she was ignorant to and invites her childhood friend Kenta to her home for some hands-on observations. If you want a more realistic vanilla loli story with pacing, proper build-up and not something over-the-top, you can’t go wrong with Shishunki Sex. Episode 2 is a completely new story about two adolescents experimenting with their bodies. It starts with groping, then watching each other pee, masturbating, and finally, they have sex for the first time. There’s nothing much to say about Shishunki Sex other than it’s well made, not offensive, and quite kinky. Let’s hope there will be more episodes to come.

    2. Joshi Luck! — Episode 1

    [sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="dmm" url="https://www.dmm.co.jp/mono/anime/-/detail/=/cid=196glod0115/?i3_ref=search&i3_ord=2" ]

Kuroda Koutarou is assigned as the new coach for the lacrosse club of Felias Girls Academy and his career is off to a rough start after he gets caught peeping and then gets humiliated by the girls of the lacrosse club. Will Koutarou clear this misunderstanding and continue his job as a coach or just be a bumbling fool and end up having sex with the girls instead? We’re not here to learn lacrosse, after all. Studio T-Rex is back at it again with a hentai anime adaptation of great source material with quality sex scenes expected from the studio and an amusing story. But we think studio T-Rex bit more than it could chew because Joshi Luck! is a very long hentai manga with many chapters and it even has a sequel. It’s highly doubtful studio T-Rex will animate every chapter, but let’s be optimistic we’ll get to see some sex with all of the girls in the lacrosse club. You’re still free to check out the manga, though. But if you’re hentai anime-only and want to see more from the author DISTANCE, we recommend you check their other work that got adapted into anime, HHH Triple Ecchi.

    1. Shikkoku no Shaga — Episode 3

    [sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="dmm" url="https://www.dmm.co.jp/mono/anime/-/detail/=/cid=403jdxa57537/?i3_ref=search&i3_ord=2" ]

Evil forces who plan to conquer the humans are finally closing in on the young boy Ushiwakamaru and his guardian Shaga, but killing the boy is no longer an easy task because the once weak Ushiwakamaru can now stand up for himself for he has been trained in the art of combat and demon-slaying thanks to Shaga. Will Ushiwakamaru and Shaga defeat the ultimate evil, or will they be eaten by the demons like the rest of the characters in the previous episodes? Here it is, the final episode of a hentai series that, well, shouldn’t have been spread out so thin by releasing an episode every year. The story of Shikkoku no Shaga is decent, but it’s not exactly complex or unique enough to keep anyone—especially someone who just wants to watch the sex—interested. By the time episode 3 came out, we actually forgot what the story was about and who the characters were and what their goals were. Overall, though, Shikkoku no Shaga is alrightt with a good story, great sex scenes, and some serviceable action sequences. The only thing that sucks is probably that Yori-hime didn’t get any sex scenes in episode 3… and that’s a crime, dammit! Oh and before we end this list, here are the other shows that came out in September, but didn’t make to the top 5.

    • Subarashiki Kokka no Kizukikata episode 1
    • Gaki ni Modotte Yarinaoshi!!! episode 2
    • Toriko no Shizuku: Natsu no Gouka Kyakusen de Kegasareru Otome-tachi episode 2
    • Maken no Hime wa Ero Ero Desu episode 4
    • Sakuramiya Shimai no Netorare Kiroku episode 2
    • Shakuen no Eris episode 2

    Final Thoughts

And there you have it, folks! September 2019 was a bountiful month full of hentai titles that cater to anyone looking for a specific fetish or a combination like lolis, monster girls, rape, pregnancy, gangbang, tentacles, and vanilla. Jitaku Keibiin (2019) is about half-way done and it better pull off more unexpected twists or maybe a harem ending where Tsunetaka has to handle three girls bearing his baby. Shoujo Kyouiku RE Joshi Luck!’s hentai adaptation is great, but we’re not sure if studio T-Rex will animate every chapter featuring one of the girls. All we can do is cross our fingers for more episodes and that Joshi Luck! will not end up short and inconclusive like studio T-Rex’s adaptation of Saimin Seishidou. Shishunki Sex is an interesting series that focuses on stories about puberty and, yeah, here’s to more episodes in the future. But that’s about it, we suppose. What do you think of our list and the hentai catalogue of September 2019? and, what are your thoughts on the titles we’ve picked in our top 5? Don’t hesitate to let us know, so please leave your comments down below. Yes, and yes, and yes. We do read your comments. We may not respond to each and every one, but we do listen and use your input to make Honey’s Anime a better place for anime, video games, and anything Japanese.
