Hikari Tsutsui is a third-year high school student who is only interested in 2D things and that includes girls. Through a peculiar incident, he meets Iroha Igarashi who is of transcendent beauty and starts to date her! While being manipulated by the uninhibited Iroha, he learns about what real hardships and difficulties are like and grows as a male otaku.

Three Episode Impression

[ua_synopsis text="Tis the season for anime mocking otaku, I suppose. 3D Kanojo Real Girl is another such anime discussing otaku relationships and friendships much like Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii and Tada-kun wa Koi wo Shinai. It’s started off kind of depressing with Hikari and Yuuto being completely self deprecating and expecting only the worst out of life because they are “creepy otaku” types. It’s frustrating to see this, even if Hikari does find a girlfriend in Iroha. While the first episode did not really instill confidence in the anime itself, the last 2 episodes have left me feeling unsure of the trajectory of the anime as it slowly feels like it’s becoming Gamers! For now, I can only assume we’ll be getting more humor at the expense of the otaku and a lot of relationship awkwardness just like Gamers!"]

In the realm of the dead where Ayakashi (ghosts) reside, there is a long-standing inn known as Tenjinya. Aoi is a female university student who, thanks to her recently deceased grandfather, inherited his ability to see Ayakashi. Excellent at cooking, just when Aoi is feeding some rural Ayakashi one day, she is suddenly swept up by a fierce god who is the master of Tenjinya. The master declares that the collateral for the debt her grandfather left behind is that she must become his bride. As a plan to recover from this hopeless situation, she agrees to work at Tenjinya to repay the debt but…

Three Episode Impression

[ua_synopsis text="Upon seeing the first episode of Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi, I thought I was watching what is essentially an anime version of some rather overdone manga themes from the likes of Love Monster to Black Bird, but there’s some talk about Aoi opening up her own restaurant, so I figured that this anime would probably do more than that. So far, Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi has proven itself to be entertaining although it does not stray from the typical supernatural shoujo mould since Aoi does not do anything but be absolutely pure hearted and special to the different ayakashi around her. While it’s not different from the manga Love Monster or Black Bird, it’s still one of the rare shoujo-supernatural anime on the market with Kamisama Kiss and maybe Noragami following similar styles, though the plots are different. Unlike Noragami, though, I suspect Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi will be fluffier and have a lighter plot, though who can say at this point? So far, it’s an enjoyable anime although I wonder if it’ll soon slowly descend to the food/cooking anime route what with them constantly talking about Aoi opening her own restaurant. We’ll see how it goes."]

Asa Ayagiri is a middle-school student who bullied heavily at school, and at home by her extremely abusive older brother. One day, her computer in her room suddenly connects to a strange site called Mahou Shoujo Site (Magical Girl Site). Asa receives a stick from Mahou Shoujo Site and becomes a magical girl. When she finds herself being pursued by fear due to the terrible bullying, she just has to use her stick and her tormentors unexpectedly disappear from in front of her eyes. They are then transported to a far-away place where they suffer a horrible death. Aya is is reluctant to kill people and tormented with confusing feelings of guilt. While she struggles with this, Aya meets another like her who received a stick from Mahou Shoujo Site: Her classmate Tsuyuno Yatsumura. They are then dragged into the cruel fate that awaits life as a magical girl.

Three Episode Impression

[ua_synopsis text="As one of the darker series out this season, I have a lot of expectation out of Mahou Shoujo Site. Seemingly taking the influences of anime like Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru, and Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku, Mahou Shoujo Site immediately appears to be rather dark with its cute animation and dull colors, reminding us of similar anime that started off the same way. Even the OP is extremely dark with references to suicide and death. Then the first episode came out and we are left with heavy hearts as we see that Aya is bullied at home and in school for no reason at all except that she’s a convenient target. The frequent references to Aya’s suicidal mindset just further sets the anime up to be dark. As the episodes have worn on, though, Aya quickly loses this attribute and immediately becomes that shining hero who doesn’t wish to punish anyone, which is quite grating and does not feel realistic for someone with so much sadness in her life. You’d think she’d have some pent up hatred somewhere! With the latest episode, though, it’s hard not to give up on Mahou Shoujo Site which appears to have lost its direction with moments where it tries to be humorous and only some slightly morbid moments, which don’t seem logical like Aya’s classmate having her throat slit but still being alive. Could it possibly be that shallow with the jugular vein right there? Then there’s that cute idol who’s a dog idol and is able to control people with her panties (does this imply something about the idol industry?), but she has a rather psychopathic side to her as she desires revenge. There’s a lot of darkness clashed with what seem like attempts at humor and societal commentary that has me unsure of where exactly this anime is going. I guess at this point, I can only say: Proceed with caution."]

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="COCX-39790" text="" url="" ]

Recently, beside the term “fanservice”, another term is taking off, and it's “manservice”, which comes from fanservice, but holds a slightly different meaning. In fact, while fanservice is used, for example, to describe something that surprises the viewers – an ecchi scene in an anime which is not ecchi, a character doing something which is out of character, and so on; the term manservice is all about men and boys in unexpected, subtle, sexual situations. Those anime full of manservice, as one could expect, are reverse harems. A female is surrounded by a lot of boys or men, who interact and start those situations full of manservice. Of course, there are yaoi vibes in manservice anime, but since a real yaoi involves gay boys or men, who fall in love with each other and start actual sexual situations, yaoi can't be considered part of the manservice genre. When those alleged sexual situations occur in anime which aren't yaoi, nor shounen-ai, that is manservice. In this ranking, we'll talk about ten wonderful manservice anime, where subtle sexual situations made all the fujoshi and fudanshi out there go crazy! So, brace yourselves, as a wave of amazing boys and men is about to be uncovered right below!

10. Bungou Stray Dogs

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B01CP1BNHK" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" April 2016 – June 2016 " ]

Bungou Stray Dogs revolves around Atsushi Nakajima. As an orphan, he spent his entire life in an orphanage, but one sad day he was kicked out. The reason is that strange events involving a mystical tiger keep occurring, and Atsushi is suspected to be behind them. Left alone and starving, while lying on a riverbank he happens to save Osamu Dazai – a supernatural detective – from drowning. That's the moment when Atsushi's life is turned upside down: he joins the Special Detective Company and his new, chaotic life begins! Bungou Stray Dogs is a seinen anime show, that's why it's easy to understand why it fits with this ranking. In this show we find a lot of good-looking men and boys, and some of them show an affection toward each other that really spices things up. For example, the way Dazai and Atsushi interact, what with Dazai being touchy-feely at times, while turning serious and showing how much he cares for Atsushi. Like Dazai and Atsushi, even other characters love to show off; Chuuya strikes poses like a male model, and at times all the others happen to become shirtless, too. With subtle yaoi vibes, good-looking men showing off, and a lot of bromance, Bungou Stray Dogs deserves to be mentioned here!

When some circumstances make her lose weight, she turns to a beautiful girl and begins to draw attention. Those male classmates start to look at her differently, but she's a fujoshi to the core: she just wishes to keep fantasizing over her favorite ships. How will Serinuma deal with boys fawning over her, while she just wants to see boy-on-boy action? Watashi ga Motete Dousunda is a shoujo anime with explicit manservice premises. As Serinuma is an otaku fujoshi, the way she looks at the hot boys in her school is screened through her eyes, and so normal events like a basketball match, suddenly turn into something very hot. Serinuma drools on her classmates' bodies, in the meanwhile she imagines BL scenes where they're totally absent. Just like every fujoshi/fudanshi out there!

8. K

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B008WU1X6U" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" October 2012 – December 2012 " ]

Those individuals with supernatural powers are the “Kings”, who can choose people for their own clans. Suou Mikoto is the Red King, and is now looking for Yashiro Isana, who is accused of the homicide of a Red Clansman. Yashiro, though, is totally unaware that a video depicting him murder another man has now gone viral. When Yashiro is saved from the Red Clansmen by Kuroh Yatogami, he understands that he needs to prove his innocence. But in the meanwhile, another, bigger conspiracy is about to be uncovered... K was presented as an action anime show, and it's packed with action actually. It is also full of handsome men, though, who like interacting with each other. It's manservice-filled, as it's literally a feast for the eyes. Subtle BL hunches are all over the place; the Red King and the Blue King, who are enemies, and speak to each other spitefully, make the viewers think “Okay, now kiss”. Kuroh is obsessed with Yashiro, who even blushes when one reason or the other bring them close. K was an anime overly appreciated by all the fujoshis and fudanshis, as it is manservice-filled, and spread BL hints, without actually doing it!

7. Karneval

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B00BCU3FP4" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 13 " aired=" April 2013 – June 2013 " ]

Let's go on with our 7th position! Karneval revolves around the “Circus”, which is a government defense agency dealing with those criminals the police can't handle and protect the civilians from monsters called “varuga”. Nai and Gareki are two boys who meet by chance in a dangerous situation, bringing them to face a varuga. When they manage somehow to survive, and escape, the Circus finds them and forces them to join the agency. And that's how their lives suddenly change... Karneval is a josei anime, but we all know that josei doesn't always imply “manservice”. Well, with Karneval it's the case. This show is full of hot boys and men who like to show off and display their beautiful bodies. If this wasn't enough manservice, then there are BL hints, what with Yogi trying to catch Gareki's attention, and Gareki losing his temper, while blushing instead. In Karneval skinship among boys is not rare, and the same is true for the muscular fighting bodies. A wonderful manservice-filled show, that deserved to be here!

6. Hakkenden: Touhou Hakken Ibun (Hakkenden: Eight Dogs of the East)

[sourceLink asin="B00D63F684" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 26 " aired=" January 2013 – September 2013 " ]

Shino Inuzuka and Sousuke Inukawa died when their village was turned to ashes, but some fortunate circumstances, brought them back to life. Both of them share a peony-shaped birthmark which holds a deep meaning; in fact, one day the Church shows up in front of them, asking them to leave in order to search for the remaining other six people with the same peony-shaped birthmark, and the other six mystical gems they already hold. Shino and Sousuke's journey begins, and it will be full of hardships... Hakkenden is a wonderful shoujo anime, full of guys who are tall, well-built and handsome. Throughout the show manservice-filled scene can become real spicy. For starters, Genpachi who is supposed to be the serious one, doesn't hide his affection toward Shino, and sometimes he blatantly tries to hit on him. Then, there's Shino and Sousuke's relationship which is – let's admit it – very ambiguous. Aside from the BL hints, however, Hakkenden's guys love to take their shirts off: beware, as there's too much beauty in one single show!

5. Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B01LTHMC5S" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" October 2016 – December 2016 " ]

As menacing dark forces are planning to change the past, Saniwa – a sage with the ability to breathe life into inanimate objects – decides to turn historical Japanese swords into muscular, young men, in order to counter the threat. Yamatonokami Yasusada, who originally was Okita Souji's sword, together with his friend Kashuu Kiyomitsu, spend their time in Saniwa's citadel with the other historical swords. Sometimes they get summoned to fight against the dark forces, sometimes they just enjoy themselves playing games or drinking... Well, imagine this ancient Japanese citadel, in a different dimension, where everything is peaceful and surrounded by green. Then imagine a huge Japanese house, FULL of young men going here and there in traditional clothes. In Touken Ranbu, there's enough manservice to literally suit everyone's tastes, as the range of characters is really huge. Touken Ranbu's men love to show their beautiful muscles while they plow the field, or drink together, or simply train with their swords, while they're all sweaty. It's the show you pick when you simply want to fill your eyes with manservice!

4. Binan Koukou Chikyuu Bouei-bu LOVE! (Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE!)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B00RV3S6G4" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" January 2015 – March 2015 " ]

Binan Koukou revolves around five high school boys who have a mission: to cover the world with a shower of love! Initially, these five boys joined the Earth Defense Club only to get to do what they wanted, like reading, playing video games, eating, and so on. Then, things got serious when a pink wombat – named Wombat – gave each of them a magical power, and the possibility to transform. Wombat entrusts them with the duty of showing people what love truly is! Binan Koukou is a parody anime trying to make fun of the magical girls' genre, that's why the magical girls here are magical boys. It goes without saying: here the manservice is to its fullest. Not only these five boys keep taking long baths together at the onsen, but when they transform into princes, they proudly show their bodies. If it wasn't enough, there's a BL subplot going on throughout the show, and it's obvious enough that the viewers could guess the couples. It's worth watching if you enjoy both shipping characters and manservice-filled shows!

3. Kamigami no Asobi – Ludere Deorum

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="sentai" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" April 2014 – June 2014 " ]

Kamigami no Asobi is a reverse harem show revolving around gods. Yui Kusanagi is a high school girl who, waking up one morning, finds herself in a beautiful school. Then, she is suddenly summoned by Zeus, who explains the situation: Yui has the duty to teach six whimsical young gods what love truly means. The task will prove to be much harder that she expected... As a reverse harem, Kamigami no Asobi is full of handsome boys, either as main characters, or supporting ones. The six guys revolving around Yui look like normal high schoolers, and it's already a feast for the eyes. The manservice-filled highest peak, though, is when they turn into gods and show their true appearances: basically, they get naked, and then all their muscular bodies are shown, and their godly clothes leave a lot of naked skin to drool over. Not only that: skin ship and BL/bromance hunches are all over the place, and they like to take their shirts off even when they should be wearing their normal attire!

2. Free! (Free! - Iwatobi Swim Club)

[sourceLink asin="B00LF9LLJE" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" July 2013 – September 2013 " ]

Haruka Nanase loves swimming free style, and water in general. During elementary school, he and his friends – Makoto, Rin and Nagisa – won a relay race and then went separate ways. Years after, they reunite attending the same high school – Iwatobi – except for Rin who attends the Samezuka High. Nagisa, full of energy and passion for swimming, decides to form the Iwatobi Swim Club, forcing Makoto, Haruka, and Rei – a new entry – to join. This will lead Haru to meet Rin once again, and face him as a rival... The epitome of the manservice anime is Free!, a sports show where high school hotties are almost always wearing only a swimsuit, showing their perfect bodies off. Talking about sexual situations, in Free! you only see hot boys playing with water, staying shirtless and displaying their biceps and quadriceps. Here, too, BL hints are everywhere: Makoto seems to have the hots for Haru, reciprocated; Rin and Sousuke play the wife and husband game; Nagisa clings to Rei. But that's just our point of view, as everyone manages to see different ships according to their preferences. Free! really had to be in this list: manservice and subtle BL are the keywords for this show!

1. Yuri!!! on ICE

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B01LXDSOOJ" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" October 2016 – December 2016 " ]

Let's end this ranking with an amazing show that stole everyone's hearts! It revolves around figure skating and Yuuri Katsuki, a figure skater who is about to give up skating after a defeat at the Grand Prix Finale. Upset and brokenhearted, Yuuri simply wishes to go back home in Japan and eat pork cutlets to his heart's content. After his return home, though, he is filmed by chance while performing a routine executed by Victor Nikiforov – a living legend, five-time champion of the World Championship, and idolized by Yuuri – and the video goes viral. Seeing the video, Victor impulsively decides to become Yuuri's mentor, and so he leaves for Japan and appears in front of Yuuri's incredulous eyes... Yuri!!! on ICE brought the viewers to think it was a sports anime like any other, but it hid a treat; a very special one. Talking about manservice, it goes without saying that it was full of well-built, handsome guys shaking their asses on the ice while wearing leotards. Then, the special treat for fujoshis and fudanshis came with Victor blatantly courting Yuuri and proposing by the end of the series. There was even a ring and a “kiss” to seal the promise. And isn't it full-fledged manservice, when the tag “yaoi”, or “shounen-ai” lacks altogether? We really thought Yuri!!! on ICE deserved our first position, as it perfectly mixes what one would expect from a manservice-filled anime!

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B01N5QLA41" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]

Final Thoughts

Yuri!!! on ICE totally deserved our first position, we bet you all agree with us. It put an end to our ranking, and we truly hope you found it amusing. We tried to mention anime which stick to the purer meaning of manservice anime: there are reverse harem, shoujo, josei and even seinen ones. It was a hard task, as the world of anime is full of series that could have fit this ranking. That's why, please, let us know what you think in the comments below, and what other anime you would have chosen for this ranking. See you next time!

Manservice. It’s like regular fanservice, but instead of big boobs and moeblobs, it’s studly guys in skintight outfits staring longingly into each other’s eyes. In short, manservice is intentional titillation made for a predominately female audience. At first it can seem like little more than a cheap ploy for ratings, but there’s a subtle art to fulfilling women’s fantasies that a select few anime can nail absolutely perfectly. Today, we’re going to take a look at the top 10 manservice anime, ranked in order of how much they make fangirls squee with joy. Whether it’s muscly athletes inspiring yaoi fanfiction or bishounen vampires fighting over the heart of one fair lady, these anime are sure to make your imagination go wild.

10. Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma (Shokugeki no Soma)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="http://www.crunchyroll.com/food-wars-shokugeki-no-soma" ]

[es][information_general item1 = "Episodios" content1="___content1___" item2="Emisión" content2="___content2___" ][/es]

Food Wars is a show that’s all about spectacle. It focuses on teenage chefs who compete in over-the-top shounen-style cooking competitions, all lovingly brought to life by a well-known hentai artist – so what else would you expect? Its story and characters are interesting in their own way, but the most spectacular part (and the reason why so many people watched this anime in the first place)... are the foodgasms. Whenever someone eats a particularly amazing dish, they enter a blissful dreamland where their clothes fly off and they moan delightedly over the flavor. This happens regardless of the character’s sex, so there’s fanservice for everyone! There’s just nothing more entertaining than watching resident free spirit Isshiki shed his naked apron in ecstasy at the taste of protagonist Soma’s cooking, or seeing Soma and his rival Akira clash as a boxer and a knight in the judges’ minds. Even though the foodgasms are played for laughs, there’s plenty of eye candy for everyone in this imaginative anime.

9. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure (JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken)

[sourceLink asin="B0725PBXB1" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="26" item2="Aired" content2="Oct 6, 2012 to Apr 6, 2013" ][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Episodios" content1="___content1___" item2="Emisión" content2="___content2___" ][/es]

Who says that manservice is only for skinny pretty boys? For those of us who like our men with a little (or a lot) more meat on their bones, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is here to serve. This is a series with decades of history and its source material is considered to be one of the best manga of all time, so we’re already off to a good start with that kind of pedigree. JoJo’s characters all have multifaceted personalities and intriguing motivations, but what they have more than anything is muscles. Yes, JoJo’s distinctive art design accentuates each fighter’s swole figure with heavy shading and a larger-than-life color palette. A standout example are the villainous Pillar Men, whose Arabian-inspired clothes are valiantly trying, but failing to contain their massive musculature. Everything is so over-the-top that it borders on comedic, but the sheer passion of this anime keeps you invested until the very end.

8. All Out!!

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B01LTHLQEG" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="25" item2="Aired" content2="Oct 7, 2016 to Mar 31, 2017" ][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Episodios" content1="___content1___" item2="Emisión" content2="___content2___" ][/es]

How do you know that All Out is a fountain of manservice? Just look at its poster. If those uniforms were any tighter, they’d be too hot for television. And with all of the full body tackling and rolling around in the dirt that rugby provides, it’s no wonder that this anime has caught the eyes of more than a few fangirls. Although it had the bad luck to come out at the same time as Yuri on Ice, All Out still has its own distinctive features. All of the characters are uniquely designed with different eye shapes, body structures, and other small details that emphasize how much of a ragtag team they are. Tying it all together is the odd friendship between pint-sized punk Gion and gentle giant Iwashimizu, as well as captain Sekizan’s turmoil-filled backstory. If you like a little something different in your sports anime, find your tightest polo shirt and check this one out.

7. Yuri!!! On Ice

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B01LXDSOOJ" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="12" item2="Aired" content2="Oct 6, 2016 to Dec 22, 2016" ][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Episodios" content1="___content1___" item2="Emisión" content2="___content2___" ][/es]

What’s so wonderful about Yuri on Ice is that, while there’s plenty of manservice in every episode, it portrays the gay characters as realistic and well-rounded people. From an LGBT perspective, it’s refreshing to see Victor and Yuri actually grow together as a couple rather than have their attraction only be used as titillation for the female audience. And yet, it’s still delightful for women to watch because all of the characters are so handsome, passionate, and athletic. Here, you’ll find a colorful cast of guys from all over the globe who each want to claim the top spot as the best male figure skater in the world. The gorgeous animation gives them bright eyes, full lips, flowing hair, and gracious movement during their complicated ice skating routines, as well as when they’re getting to know each other better. Yuri on Ice is a show to binge whether you enjoy digging deep into character relationships or you just like watching beautiful boys skate their hearts out.

6. Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE! (Binan Koukou Chikyuu Bouei-bu Love!)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B01I2YFK6E" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="12" item2="Aired" content2="Jan 7, 2015 to Mar 25, 2015" ][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Episodios" content1="___content1___" item2="Emisión" content2="___content2___" ][/es]

As you can guess from the title, Cute High Earth Defense Club Love doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s essentially a standard magical girl show, but with the genders reversed. There have been magical boys before in anime like Shugo Chara and Kore Wa Zombie Desu Ka, but this one is the be-all and end-all of the genre. Even searching online for “magical boy anime” turns up more results featuring these color-coordinated cuties than anything else. Yumoto and the other members of the Earth Defense Club use sparkly transformations and weapons granted to them by a giant pink wombat to vanquish the evil forces threatening their world. It’s all very tongue-in-cheek and the story isn’t particularly deep, but it accomplishes its goal of being a manservice version of a genre that’s been delivering female eye candy for decades. Topped off with some lighthearted antics and a dose of good old-fashioned gay subtext, Cute High Earth Defense Club Love is a perfectly silly little romp to indulge in.

5. B-Project: Kodou*Ambitious

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B01HLTZLUG" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="12" item2="Aired" content2="Jul 3, 2016 to Sep 25, 2016" ][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Episodios" content1="___content1___" item2="Emisión" content2="___content2___" ][/es]

The realm of idols is traditionally dominated by adorable girls and their moe exploits, but this anime is determined to show that guys can rule the idol-sphere as well. Based on the multimedia franchise of the same name, B-Project brings us a huge lineup of men who’ve been working all their lives to be the best idols ever. Their character designs come courtesy of the same artist behind Uta no Prince-sama, so, of course, they’re bishounen perfection. But the wish fulfillment doesn’t stop there. The guys are constantly flirting with their new manager Tsubasa, who stutters and blushes at their charm, but understands them at their core and ultimately brings the group closer together. And after the credits of each episode, the boys whisper sweet nothings directly to the viewer while lying undressed on a bed. B-Project’s manservice techniques may be obvious, but we can’t doubt that they’re effective.

4. Gakuen Heaven

[sourceLink asin="B002OMIKOK" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="13" item2="Aired" content2="Apr 1, 2006 to Jun 24, 2006" ][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Episodios" content1="___content1___" item2="Emisión" content2="___content2___" ][/es]

Ah, boys love. Where would manservice be without it? Gakuen Heaven is an adaptation of a visual novel from the far-flung year of 2002, so it sports a more old-school shoujo art style that complements its story of love in a school for the impossibly rich. The anime significantly tones down the sexual content from the original game, but luckily, there’s still plenty of aristocratic romance to be had. Taking place at the cheekily named Bell Liberty Academy, Gakuen Heaven focuses on average kid Keita and his quest to prove himself worthy of the stunning and sophisticated men he meets at this luxe all-boys school. The plot reads a bit like a soap opera with all of its kidnappings, amnesia cases, and mysterious backstories, but it honestly fits well with the premise. It’s melodrama to the bone, which is sometimes exactly what we’re in the mood for.

3. Vampire Knight (Vampire Kishi)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="ANZB-3251" text="" url="" ]
[en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="13" item2="Aired" content2="Apr 8, 2008 to Jul 1, 2008" ][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Episodios" content1="___content1___" item2="Emisión" content2="___content2___" ][/es]

Okay, we’ll be the first to say it – it’s still a better love story than Twilight. Vampire Knight is a supernatural high school love triangle romance that takes its deeply ridiculous plot way too seriously, but it’s so earnest that you can’t help but get sucked into its dark world of vicious vampires and those who hunt them down. Main character Yuuki’s two suitors are Kaname, a longhaired princely pureblood with a strange connection to her past; and Zero, a tattooed half-vampire who resents his own kind and hunts them down with a magical gun called “Bloody Rose”. These impossibly handsome men are constantly at each other’s throats to win Yuuki’s heart, perfectly feeding into our own self-indulgent fantasies. Kaname or Zero – whose team are you on?

2. Miracle Train: Welcome to the Oedo Line (Miracle☆Train: Ooedo-sen e Youkoso)

[sourceLink asin="B0050D1LM8" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="13" item2="Aired" content2="Oct 5, 2009 to Dec 28, 2009" ][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Episodios" content1="___content1___" item2="Emisión" content2="___content2___" ][/es]

Continuing with the theme of gorgeous men fawning over a woman’s every desire, in comes Miracle Train. As possibly the most shameless anime on this list, Miracle Train’s gaggle of guys exists only to solve troubled women’s problems. And since the female protagonists change every episode, the focus is much more on watching these charming lads work their magic to make these ladies’ lives a bit better. It’s kind of like Makura no Danshi, but without the creepy undertones. Each of the six men represents one of the stations along the Oedo subway line, which runs through Tokyo. There’s a boy for every taste, plus a cute dog and little girl to round out the cast. Give it a watch if you’re enraptured by the idea of falling in love with a kind and beautiful stranger in the unlikeliest of circumstances. As the narrator says, will you be the next passenger on the Miracle Train?

Free! is the number one manservice anime because it delivers exactly what girls want while still having value outside of that. [Editorial Tuesday] Why Do People Love First Person Shooters?

[sourceLink asin="B000FRU0NU" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]

With the continued rise of games of Overwatch and CS:GO, first-person shooter (or FPS) video games remain some of the most popular around the world. This is especially true as these games compete on an international level in eSports competitions, often with prizes of large amounts of money for the winners. FPS games span a wide variety of other genres, meaning that if you want more story with your action, there’s a game out there for you! Subsequently, if you are just looking for a straight run-and-gun style of game, you will find what you need as well. In everything from Call of Duty to Borderlands, with both multiplayer and campaign stories alike, FPS games are prevalent. Perhaps it is their availability among video games that makes them so popular, but we at Honey’s Anime believe there is more to it than that… Sure, FPS games are widely available, both as a genre and on several different platforms, but what keeps people coming back to these games time after time? Is it just the popularity of the games due to their past achievements, as it appears in the Call of Duty franchise? We only truly return to the genres of games that we love; meaning that for first-person shooters to be as popular as they are, there must be specific things about them that we enjoy! We are going to try our best to explain what it is about these games that keeps us coming back for more, even if our killstreaks on Call of Duty may not be the best. It is in the combination of several different aspects that FPS games draw our attention!

[ad_top2 class="mt40"]

Fast-Paced Thrills

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="BLJS-10298" text="" url="" ]

Many video games will combine a drawn-out storyline with moments of action, often including a more open exploration aspect to keep players interacting in the setting longer. The most typical FPS games are usually considered to be ones with little to no story involved like Call of Duty or CS:GO, with their limited scope often looked down upon as too simple. However, several FPS games actually try to incorporate a more in-depth plot and some exploration of the world. For example, BioShock is a first-person shooter that uses its own twisted setting and story to draw the player in further. And while it might seem like the “shooter” aspect of the game would take a backseat in favor of these other aspects, the combination actually ends up heightening the excitement of the game! Players understand the risks their character faces on a deeper level, making combat a hardcore experience. However, this does not mean that FPS games which focus on multiplayer combat are any less fun or exciting! While games like Call of Duty, Battlefield or Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege favor limited story and setting, the thrill of the action in combat continues. In fact, it is this fast-paced action which unites FPS games, and helps make them truly enjoyable to play. First-person shooters never slow down, keeping players guessing and moving throughout various maps, levels, or chapters. And if you do find these competitive-driven games to be too bland for your taste, there are plenty of plot-driven FPS games for you to dive into as well. Whether the game has an intricate story or not, the thrills of an FPS game are some of the most enjoyable parts!

First-Person Experience

[sourceLink asin="B00006IQTH" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]

Another reason that people are drawn to FPS games is that level of personalization which comes with the first-person experience. People enjoy video games partly because of their ability to be someone else entirely, to step away from reality into a different world. In Halo, players can become Master Chief, fighting against aliens bent on the destruction of human beings. Though not all FPS games have such a drastic step into another setting or person, that aspect of playing through a video game as another person is certainly enjoyable. The excitement of seeing a world through someone else’s eyes becomes even better when you can control those eyes, and the rest of the being behind them, to fight how you want! For some players, there is also a certain thrill to fighting off grotesquely horrifying enemies for survival. Not only are we able to prove ourselves on the battlefield, but we can defeat demons and monsters straight out of our worst nightmares. In games like Doom, Killing Floor or Prey, we fight horrors and zombies just to survive – and the first-person experience ups the drama quite a bit! Meanwhile, other players enjoy the multiplayer aspect of first-person games, proving themselves on the battlefield in a different way. In Overwatch, we may play as a different, established character, but each time we play that character we are, in a way, becoming them to help our team fight. Regardless of your preference for FPS games, being able to insert yourself into the game in some way is definitely a fun part of the experience!

Competition

[sourceLink asin="B002I098JE" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]

In combination with both of the former aspects of FPS games, there comes the idea of competition. At its core, every shooter is a competition, whether it is against the NPCs of the world or against other players in online combat. Competition can be a good thing, allowing people to reach new levels of achievement within themselves. FPS games are the perfect area for competition, as there is often nothing at stake except perhaps your pride in the game (unless you are competing in eSports). You can even compete against yourself, striving to improve certain traits of your combat or stats that are important to you. Obviously, the competition aspect of an FPS game becomes more obvious when it is displayed in a straightforward manner, as in the multiplayer parts of Overwatch or Call of Duty. But even more story-driven FPS games share the thrill of competition, even if it’s not always apparent. For example, Far Cry 4 is a first-person shooter that has a wide, open world map with an intricate main storyline. Yet players can even find competition in this game – not only in fighting off NPCs, but in unlocking achievements or in more personal goals like using different methods to enter the enemy base! A good first-person shooter thrives on the competition its players find within. But try not to take the taunting of the enemy team too seriously – at the end of the day, it is just a game!

Strategy and Skill

[sourceLink asin="B017L186MY" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]

Along with the other aspects of an FPS game we’ve already mentioned, there is one other thing about first-person shooters that makes us excited to keep playing them. Often, the learning curve may be steep when first stepping into a game, but once you’ve developed a skill set all your own, that feeling of achievement is certainly fun! Sure, this is a part of many genres in video games, spanning in everything from platformers to racing. Yet the strategy of learning to perfect an FPS game is different, because it is combined with that aspect of the first-person experience and the desire to win. If you’re still not seeing the differentiation for FPS games, put in the hours of grinding needed to develop a surefire strategy for 7 Days to Die, and you’ll see what we mean! We can also look at more structured multiplayer games like Overwatch for a clear example. When you first start to play, it takes a while to learn the strengths and weaknesses of the different characters, as well as which characters/class best fit your own play style. The more games you play, practicing with different strategies and honing your own skills as certain characters, the better you will become! And because this game is entirely focused on multiplayer interactions, the ways that you improve your own strategies and skills will only help your team do better. The same goes for other FPS games like CS:GO or even Team Fortress 2. No matter what the FPS game is like, learning different strategies and improving your skills at the game are a big part of the enjoyment!

Final Thoughts

First-person shooters are popular for many reasons, but most of all for the things they do that keep us wanting to play more of them! The games are fast-paced and exciting, drawing you in with the promise of more action and the improvement of your own skills as you practice more. It gives us a look into the game’s world through our own eyes, putting us inside a shooter to compete as ourselves, which is a highly personal experience. With the rise of large eSports competitions in games like Overwatch and CS:GO, we will only continue to see FPS games gain in popularity as fans try to make their own mark on the games that they love! So what are your thoughts on first-person shooters? Do you think they deserve the popularity they get from eSports, or are these games just overrated ways for companies to gain more money from a franchise? Please share your thoughts down below in the comments!

Squeezing a full season into a shorter than three-hour experience sounds like a trying and futile goal. Seven Arcs' Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha A's ran for 13 episodes and combined action, magical girls, and comedy to tell an entertaining and compelling storyline. While the series is fantastic and well worth watching, Seven Arcs' film adaptation successfully captures the original's brilliance. In some ways, it improves on the show. Following the events of Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha: The Movie 1st, Nanoha Takamachi and Fate Testarossa have become the best of buds and plan to lead a relatively normal life. On the day that Fate joins Nanoha's school, the latter is attacked by a mysterious girl named Vita. After a grueling encounter, Vita defeats Nanoha and, with the help of the Book of Darkness, steals some of the protagonist's magic. To make the situation even worse, Vita is not working alone, as she forms part of a group of knights striving to rebuild the book's power to save their dying master. While fighting for a sympathetic cause, reviving the Book of Darkness could lead to devastating consequences. Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha: The Movie 2nd A's presents its antagonists as likable and understandable characters. This is not a fight between good and evil, as both sides are driven by justifiable beliefs. With quieter character moments sprinkled alongside many awesome fights, Seven Arcs' film is an action-packed thrill ride that never outstays its welcome. For those who adored Seven Arcs’ magical but complex action film, here are six similar anime worth watching.

The Fate series is rather complicated. In layman's terms, each incarnation happens in an alternate universe that is interconnected but should be taken on its own. The same faces tend to appear in every version, but their behavior, importance, and personalities might differ. Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya is a substantial departure from Fate/Zero or Fate/stay night, with a heavier focus on comedy and a magical girl theme. Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya Movie: Sekka no Chikai serves as a prequel to Silver Link's four season series, just with Shirou Emiya elevated from supporting to main character. When it comes to the tone, Sekka no Chikai is closer to the darker final two seasons. The story goes through Miyu's origin story, starting from when she was rescued by Shirou and Kiritsugu Emiya, before detailing her initial encounters with the series' other main characters. As this is a prequel, it is accessible for people who have not followed the anime. There is quite a bit of worldbuilding, as the film briefly mentions the fourth Holy Grail War that left humanity on the brink of destruction. Similarly to Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha, Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya Movie: Sekka no Chikai avoids talking down to its audience by introducing an easily identifiable villain. Even though Shirou and Miyu go up against a dangerous foe, the latter is motivated by a desire to save the world. Everyone is desperately trying to rediscover something they have lost.

Trinity Seven is an action harem largely set at the magic school Royal Biblia Academy. After his hometown is destroyed, Arata Kasuga uses a magical Grimoire to artificially recreate it. As a consequence, he is visited by Lilith Asami, a magic user who threatens to kill Arata if he does not relinquish the Grimoire. Deciding against either option, the protagonist joins Lilith's magical school, which contains six other mages who want to separate Arata from his book. Trinity Seven Movie: Eternity Library to Alchemic Girl brings Arata's story to an end, as he is forced to save the world from the powerful White Demon Lord. The antagonist is revived due to Arata accidentally touching Lilith's Grimoire and transforming the book into a magical girl. At a short 55 minutes, Trinity Seven's conclusion moves at an insanely quick pace. As the series was mostly known for its ecchi comedy, the first half of the film is dedicated to Arata's misadventures with the magical girls. Once the White Demon Lord enters the fray, Seven Arcs ramps up the action. As Trinity Seven is made by the same studio that created Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha, the animation is nearly identical and the fight scenes are just as exciting as the studio's previous film.

3. Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica Movie 3: Hangyaku no Monogatari (Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Rebellion)

Puella Magi Madoka Magica is a must-watch anime. As a subversion of the magical girl genre, Shaft's franchise is suitable for fans and haters of these type of stories. Rebellion brings the narrative to a conclusive end, but it really should not be watched without knowledge of the television series. Taking place after the events of Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica, things seem oddly perfect. Supposedly dead characters are back among the living, as Homura Akemi and the remaining magical girls continue to free people from their nightmares. Despite the general pleasantness in the air, Homura cannot shake the feeling that something is terribly wrong. Following in the footsteps of its predecessor, Rebellion allows the characters and the audience to feel comfortable before viciously pulling the rug from underneath their feet! Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha: The Movie 2nd A's tackles some serious issues, including sacrifice and mortality, but Seven Arcs' anime never approaches the Rebellion's morbid darkness. Shaft's animation is gorgeous, which is especially true during the trippy and violent fight scenes. The characters go through a ton of character development and nobody is presented as a straightforward hero or villain. For those who appreciate Nanoha's action and darker moments involving the antagonists, Puella Magi Madoka Magica should be the first name on your list.

As a franchise, Mahoutsukai Precure! could act as the poster child for the magical girl genre. It follows the adventures of Mirai, a teenager who finds a powerful artifact granting magical powers. Inadvertently, she is dragged into a conflict between good and evil magic users, with both sides yearning to get their hands on Mirai's artifact. Precure All Stars Movie: Minna de Utau♪ - Kiseki no Mahou takes the anime's typical formula and adds a touch of music. Putting aside the songs, Precure All Stars' story plays it relatively safe. While visiting the human world, Mirai is attacked by a witch named Sorciere, who wishes to activate a dangerous spell by acquiring the tears of the 44 Precure girls. In a bid to save the world and themselves, the girls came together to challenge Sorciere. Precure All Stars Movie's animation is easily the film's crowning achievement. Toei crafted a vibrant product filled with whimsy and charm. While the story is serviceable, the film is mostly worth watching to see all the girls working together. Precure All Stars Movie sticks close to the genre's conventions, but it is a fun and magical ride.

So you thought adapting a series into a film was hard? Try doing the same with two completely different mediums! Anime based on video games are relatively common, especially when referring to Japanese RPGs. Considered one of the best entries in the franchise, Tales of Vesperia follows the adventures of the vigilante Yuri Lowell, who left the prestigious Imperial Knights due to the rampant political corruption seeping through their ranks. Rather than stuffing a massive storyline into a couple of hours, The First Strike serves as a prequel to the events of the game. It is set during Yuri's time with the Imperial Knights and establishes why he turned his back on their cause. Accompanied by his friend Flynn Scifo, Yuri is stationed at Ceazontania, a peaceful town that is slowly being taken over by monsters. Despite their captain asking for reinforcement, the Imperial Knights' political agenda delays the process and puts the lives of many at risk. Like the game, Tales of Vesperia: The First Strike presents its cast as three-dimensional characters. Flynn and Yuri have their own reasons for joining the Imperial Knights, with neither of them being presented as right. Similarly to Nanoha, Tales of Vesperia's fights are explosive and bloody, but they tend to take a backseat to Production I.G.'s world building and character interactions.

Apparently, the life of an anti-virus comes with a few challenges. The "Box of Wisdom" is a strange entity housing multiple worlds and timelines. In order to maintain order, Dual and Dorothy exist to weed out any potential threats and delete them. Whenever a virus shows up, the affected world is erased to avoid an epidemic. Dual and Dorothy's programming is interrupted by the arrival of a young girl named Rimo who wishes to return to the flower patch. As a standalone story with barely an hour on the clock, Glass no Hana to Kowasu Sekai has a tough task on its hands. A-1 Pictures' sci-fi film has to establish a complex and unique universe, introduce multiple quirky characters, and deliver a compelling narrative. Surprisingly, Glass no Hana to Kowasu Sekai accomplishes its task with minimum fuss. The plot can be convoluted, but the gorgeous animation and likable cast pick up the slack. While described as anti-viruses, Dual and Dorothy are practically magical girls. While they serve a vital function, their actions result in the deaths of countless people. Like Nanoha's antagonists, Dual and Dorothy are caught between a rock and a hard place as they are forced to choose between sacrificing the few to save the many.

When traveling the roads of life, everyone wants and needs to have a place where they feel belonging, particularly a family. Sometimes, a family isn’t an option, so people seek other places for comfort, such as groups or communities to feel included. This unit is unique because it ties every member all together whether by an interest, love, or common trait. As one, everyone in the community can live fuller and more productive lives, giving reasons to live life fully. From this sentiment, in the anime film, Omae Umasou da na or You Are Umasou, we observe the growth of Heart, a young Tyrannosaurs Rex who made a family with a herd of herbivores. In a chance encounter with a baby Ankylosaurus named Umasou, Heart demonstrates the very same openness and love he has experienced throughout his life onto this little one. With that said, here are our picks for 6 anime movies like You Are Umasou.

Wolf Children is the story of Hana, who during her studies in college, falls in love with a very mysterious and handsome man named Ookami. Hana and Ookami start dating, developing a deep, romantic relationship. Later on, Hana finds out that Ookami is part human, part wolf. When the pair begins a family, having a lovely girl and boy, Ookami tragically dies. Unfortunately, Hana is now a widow left to care for her young, who have also inherited his trait. We observe in Wolf Children that taming the animal in these kids isn’t an easy task. Furthermore, we see the unbreakable family bond, having the ability to overcome any obstacle. Wolf Children and You Are Umasou discuss the matter of family and how the definition isn’t as narrow as we perceive. Both anime films express how our characters choose to live their lives with the circumstances they are dealt. In Wolf Children, it is the choice of living as a human or animal, and in You Are Umasou, it is whether to live as a carnivore or a herbivore. The overall messages in both films are heartwarming and engaging.

Tis the season for the holidays, as it is Christmas and these friends have chanced on their very own Christmas miracle. As luck would have it, Hana, Gin, and Miyuki find a swaddled infant in a dumpster. The trio has decided to take on caring for the baby, naming her Kiyoko, which means “pure one.” Unfortunately, it dawned on the them that they can’t sufficiently provide for the baby. So, with what little clues Kiyoko had with her when found, they set on a quest to find her mother, becoming entangled in a myriad of bizarre occurrences. Tokyo Godfathers and You Are Umasou convey the idea that it is possible to make a home anywhere as long as one feels the warmth and belonging a home should provide. Setting in different time periods, this important concept is one that resonates throughout the ages. Furthermore, both films cast characters that include an infant. Tokyo Godfathers and You Are Umasou express the ease of togetherness, how both family units naturally mesh well and fit together. Their thoughts and attitudes are from the heart, and that’s what really counts.

Arashi no Yoru ni captures the story of a unique friendship between a goat named Mei and a wolf named Gabu. On a dark and stormy night, Gabu meets Mei in a barn. With little visibility, Gabu befriends Mei, giving him his word that he won’t harm her. Over time, Gabu must fight his natural instincts to keep Mei safe from himself and his pack. As the pack later challenges their friendship, the two take on a journey to find a place that won’t disturb their companionship. Arashi no Yoru ni and You Are Umasou are both excellent children films that deal with the animal hierarchy of predator-prey relationships, and herbivores and carnivores. Highlighting the unusual friendships of Gabu and Mei, and Umasou and Heart, these creatures fight the laws of nature to reveal what’s honestly in their hearts. Portraying similarly brilliant animation, Arashi no Yoru ni shares with viewers a little more intense action than You Are Umasou.

Wor, a ferocious black wolf, kills his mother, along with other sheep surrounding his home in an ambush. Succumbing to grief, Chirin wants revenge on Wor, going after him in his home in the mountains. It is estimated that between 70 and 95 percent of the world's population is right-handed. Historically, many cultures have had a bias against lefties for deviating from the genetic norm as seen in Western Christianity, Islam, many traditional Indian cultures and many parts of Asia, including Japan, where many natural lefties are forced to use their right hands from a young age. While left-handedness is becoming more and more accepted, there are still places where they can struggle, such as in the design of everyday items like scissors, computer mice, and musical instruments. That being said, lefties have a little bit of their own special mystique and excel in certain areas where it benefits them, perhaps most notably in sports like baseball and boxing, where their unique orientation gives them a slight edge over their predominantly right-handed opponents. Anime also has its share of lefties that we're going to celebrate in this list. Here are our picks for the top left-handed characters in anime!

Along with being left-handed, Elsie happens to be one of those “well, actually, she's a 300 year old demon” anime characters. Despite looking nothing like Ryuk of Death Note fame, Elsie is a shinigami (god or spirit associated with death) who has been sent from Hell on a mission to capture evil spirits that have escaped into the human world. Enlisting the help of dating sim “god” Keima Katsuragi when he unknowingly accepts the challenge, the two work together to conquer real-world girls who have been possessed by these spirits. This begins a long series of adventures full of parodies of character archetypes where Keima must put his gaming skills to the test with actual girls or else literally lose his head! What makes Elsie such a great character is that she is very much unlike what anyone would expect of a demon from hell in both personality and looks. Akio Watanabe's iconic cute character design makes this little hell spawn look more like a magical girl than a death god. With her frequently beeping skull-shaped hair clip, pink, cloud-like scarf, witch-style flying broomstick, bubbly, child-like personality, fascination with fire trucks, and sporadic cleaning spurts (before becoming a spirit hunter she was a cleaner!), Elsie's antics make her a very lovable character and good contrast to the gloomy, brooding Keima. Her left-handedness is also showcased as the left-handed bassist for Chihiro's band, the 2-B Pencils!

Lucky Star is a slice-of-life comedy that follows the lives of four high-school girls: the short, obsessive otaku Konata Izumi, the bespectacled, polite and smart Miyuki Takara, and fraternal twin sisters Tsukasa and Kagami Hiiragi, as they go about their daily lives and discuss facets of Japanese tradition, the proper way to cook and eat foods, academics, specifics of nerd culture and more! Tsukasa and Kagami could be described as “sugary” and “spicy” or as different sides of the same (left) hand respectively with Tsukasa being much more outwardly sweet, caring, and a little bit of a klutz, while Kagami is a classic tsukkomi character, prone to being grumpy and tsundere when she does show affection. We chose Kagami as our #9 on this list, but if this were a ranking of shows, Lucky Star would have to be our #1 with all of the main characters being left-handed except Konata (who is ambidextrous) and most of the supporting cast as well! Kagami is our pick for her relatable frustration at not having a lot of common interests with the other girls, her cute bouts of tsundere shyness, and the special moments when we get to see her smile.

Code Geass takes place in an alternate history where the British Empire maintained control of the American colonies and continued to expand, becoming known as the Holy Empire of Britannia. Set in 2010, the tyrannical Britannia is fighting off the last of the resistance forces in District 11 (a renamed Japan), Code Geass chronicles the story of the titular Lelouch Lamperouge, the exiled crown prince of Britannia. Lelouch receives a magical power called Geass from mysterious immortal girl C.C. and embarks on an action-packed quest for revenge against Britannia as his masked vigilante alter ego Zero in a story full of political intrigue and awesome mechs! Like Lelouch, Kallen Stadtfeld has a double life. Seemingly demure and frail, she attends the prestigious Ashford Academy where she is a member of the student council with outstanding academics but she is also secretly part of the guerrilla resistance forces fighting against Britannia. Kallen is an awesome lefty, a fiery redhead fighting for what she believes in with her badass Guren Type-02 mech specially designed for her, left-handedness included!

7. Haruko Haruhara from FLCL

FLCL or Fooly Cooly or Furi Kuri is a bizarre 6 episode OVA produced by legendary studio Gainax about 12-year-old Naota Nandaba. Living in his suburban town of Mabase, the cynical preteen hates his boring town. Living in the shadow of his older brother who moved to America to play baseball, he is obsessed with trying to act mature to hide his loneliness. His ordinary life is violently interrupted when our #7 lefty Haruko Haruhara crashes into him with her Vespa scooter and then proceeds to bash him in the head with an electric blue Rickenbacker 4001 bass guitar! It only gets weirder from there when strange things start popping out of Naota's forehead, beginning with an oddly-shaped horn. Thus begins the wild, nonsensical, reference-fueled coming-of-age adventure that is FLCL! Pink-haired, hyperactive weirdo Haruko Haruhara (or maybe Haruha Raharu if you ask Amarao) is quite an enigma. She claims to be a 19-year-old alien working for an organization called the Galactic Space Patrol Brotherhood and seems to be after the power of the “Pirate King” Atomsk, but otherwise, her intentions and backstory are completely unknown. With her bizarre powers, unique sense of style, and over-the-top personality, Haruko Haruhara is an extremely memorable character who gets bonus lefty points for using her right-handed guitar despite being left-handed and being amazing at baseball in classic lefty fashion. “He who conquers the left side conquers the world” might just hold true for Haruko.

6. Mio Akiyama from K-On!

K-On! is about the members of the all-girl Sakuragaoka High School's Light Music Club. Freshman Hirasawa Yui has zero experience playing instruments or reading sheet music and mistakenly joins the club believing that the “light music” in Light Music Club means “easy music” like humming or whistling. When she meets the other girls, Ritsu Tainaka, Tsumugi Kotobuki, and Mio Akiyama, she finds out that the club is in danger of disbanding because of a lack of members and she ends up joining anyway. The girls name their band Ho-kago Tea Time and work together through their school studies and daily lives while Yui tries to learn guitar as they get ready for their debut at the school festival. Mio Akiyama tries really hard to act mature, calm, and collected around others but is also really shy and afraid of most anything that could be considered macabre or gross like ghosts, blood, haunted houses, injuries, and even barnacles. She's a model student with excellent grades and is often strict with others, especially in tsundere ways towards the immature Ritsu. She writes most of the songs for Ho-kago Tea Time, plays a left-handed, 3-color Fender Jazz Bass, and also provides many of the vocals alongside Yui, but tries not to be the center of attention because of her shyness. She is easily excitable when she sees rare, left-handed instruments. Another great lefty bassist from a Kyoto Animation classic!

Based on the 2004 KEY-developed visual novel of the same name, CLANNAD follows school delinquent Tomoya Okazaki. With a troubled past, Tomoya has pretty much given up on having a future and frequently skips school, idling his days away with his fellow delinquent friend Youhei Sunohara. That slowly begins to change after he encounters a strange girl named Nagisa Furukawa who he overhears exclaiming words of things she likes in an attempt to motivate herself. This begins an unlikely friendship of sorts where Tomoya tries to help Nagisa achieve her dream of reviving the school's drama club. As things progress, Tomoya meets more girls, each with their own problems, who he assists in this emotional drama speckled with bits of comedy and supernatural elements. Tomoya Okazaki is well-loved for his strong character development across CLANNAD and CLANNAD: After Story. While initially coming across as an aimless delinquent cynic, as we learn more about his traumatic childhood, we start to understand his frustrations in life and as the story moves on and you can't help but want to cheer him on as he develops a compassionate understanding of what it means to be friends and family. Through the emotional rollercoaster that is CLANNAD, Tomoya's growth and persistence is inspiring. He's also left-handed!!

Konohagakure, the hidden leaf village, is attacked by a gigantic nine-tailed fox demon called Kyuubi. In a desperate attempt to save the land, their leader, the Fourth Hokage, seals Kyuubi inside the newborn Naruto, sacrificing himself in the process. The main story follows the socially outcast Naruto, who dreams of becoming the next Hokage, from his ninja training to fighting many different opponents, to making friends, exploring new lands, and discovering himself in the process. Naruto, to many, was a gateway anime and continues to be a very popular shounen series. One of the people that Naruto meets early on in his journey is Sasuke Uchiha, another student living in the hidden leaf village who trains with Naruto and others. Sasuke has an immense drive for revenge against his older brother Itachi who murdered nearly the entirety of the Uchiha clan when Sasuke was a young child. Sasuke is matched with Naruto and Sakura Haruno, forming Team 7 in the Chunin Exams where Sasuke begins to form a bond with Naruto, one of the few people who can relate to his hardships. Ninjas are trained to be ambidextrous when possible but Sasuke's natural inclination is towards his left, likely another way to express his wayward character.

3. Taiga Aisaka from Toradora!

Ryuuji Takasu's scary face labels him as a delinquent by the students of his high school despite his actual kind, housework-obsessed personality, while fellow student Taiga Aisaka's small frame and doll-like features hide an often violent, feisty demeanor that gives her the nickname of “Palmtop Tiger.” After the two find out that each has a crush on the other's best friend, Yuusaku Kitamura and Minori Kushieda, they form an unlikely bond as they try to help each other get together with their respective crushes. Based on the award-winning light novel series, Toradora! is one of the best romantic comedies of recent times largely thanks to its memorable characters. The titular Taiga Aisaka (tora means tiger) is often seen brandishing a bamboo sword around school. Her explosive personality and aggressive antics makes her a sight to behold, especially coupled with her tiny stature. In reality, Taiga is a troubled girl with a history of family issues that have caused her to lose trust in others, save for her best friend Minori, who she calls Minorin, and Ryuuji who she slowly warms up to over the course of the story. As we learn more about Taiga throughout the story, she becomes more and more of a sympathetic character, which makes her tsundere shows of kindness even more beautiful.

2. Zoro Roronoa (or Zolo Roronoa) from One Piece

As one of the longest running anime series of all time, most anime fans have already probably at least heard of One Piece, in particular if they prefer pirates to ninjas (sorry Naruto). One Piece tells the tale of Monkey D. Luffy, a 17-year-old boy who dreams to find the titular treasure called One Piece, a hidden treasure trove left by the “Pirate King” Gol D. Roger, who revealed its existence in his final breath, saying that anyone who could find it could claim it. Now countless pirates cruise the Grand Line in hopes of finding the treasure that can make their dreams come true, Luffy and his Straw Hat crew included. Zoro, as he is described in the infamous 4Kids English dub opening, is like a samurai but not actually one, though he does somewhat subscribes to the tenets of bushido. A master swordsman with a unique style of fighting called santoryu that utilizes using three katana swords at once, Zoro is generally considered the most powerful member of Luffy's crew after Luffy himself and was also the first to join the Straw Hats. Zoro seeks to truly master the art of swordsmanship, aiming to be the greatest in the world; his many battle scars a testament to his dedication. An awesome, left-handed warrior, Zoro carves his way into being our #2 pick!

1. Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B000666PGQ" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]

When brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric attempt the forbidden alchemic act of human transmutation to resurrect their dead mother, they get more than they bargained for. Alchemy abides by the law of equivalent exchange, sacrifices must be made to achieve results. This alchemy gone awry cost Edward a literal arm and a leg and Alphonse his entire body and nearly his life. If not for Edward hastily binding his soul into a suit of armor, he would have been gone forever. Fullmetal Alchemist follows the story of the two brothers in their quest to find the legendary Philosopher's Stone, said to amplify the abilities of any alchemist far beyond what is normal, even bypassing the law of equivalent exchange. Edward's first step in trying to find the legendary stone is to become part of the military as a State Alchemist, which the brilliant 12-year-old achieves as the youngest person in all of history. Edward (or Ed) is also unusual in his stature and appearance, the former being a recurring sticking point with his short stature and the latter, his mechanical arm and leg called automail, being the source of his namesake Fullmetal title, as well as qualifying his inclusion in this list due to him only having a left arm (and hand) of his own. Ed is our number one pick because of his awesome skills in both martial arts and alchemy (and the combination thereof, especially his ability to transform the metal in his limbs) and his undeniable charm in spite of often being an overly stubborn hothead. For those close to him, he is incredibly loyal and capable of great compassion, and it's in these deeper moments that we understand his complex character. A truly memorable character from a fantastic series, and as left-handed as one can get, Edward Elric is surely a character you'll never forget!

Final Thoughts

Handedness is an unusual aspect of people and characters to explore and one that can easily be overlooked unless you're looking for it. With both cultural and physical ramifications, left-handedness and left-handed people add unique variety to our lives and stories. Its usage in anime can be as simple as it being a character quirk to it being subtle symbolism of their lifestyle or destiny or even using it as a central part of that character's skills or identity. Lefty power! For real-world lefties trying to find similarities with their favorite characters or fans just wanting to know more about them, we hope that this list as been interesting and informative! What do you think of our list? What other characters do you know that are left-handed and/or should have they been included here? Let us know in the comments below!

Who it Caters to

Welcome to the world of Crest. A tribal simulation game where your followers look to you for wisdom and guidance. Direct your people through pictographic commandments. Show them the path to a righteous and virtuous existence or force them into a chaotic state of being if a single word you utter happens to fall on deaf ears. You choose their fate. "We ask tough questions through our games and let the players explore the answers." This is the creed that creative studio Eat Create Sleep live by. Clearly, this studio is working out a system for how the world is simulated and the thought process of the one in control. This is the second simulation title that this company has released. Though this company may be small and relatively new, they seem to have big ideas and aspirations.

What to Expect

The point of the game is to "express yourself through your people". Issue them commandments for how they should live their life and go through their daily activities. Those commandments are sometimes received more as guidelines. People will use free will to slightly change the rules their god has laid out for them. Or they may completely disagree with them. At this point, it's up to you (as their god) to either correct their course (Oh if only you could smite them!) or allow them to proceed with their new path to happiness. Crest contains many of the tried and true element of sandbox-style games such as gatherable resources, indicators for happiness and wellbeing, micromanagement, an expanding economy, and much more. What sets this game apart from most simulation games is that the humans you rule over have some semblance of free will. Eat Create Sleep seems dedicated to updating the game and fixing bugs that have been found by community members. For instance, they have adjusted the aggression of hippos early on in the game (they used to attack villagers too often). They've also added various monuments that villagers can build to boost their esteem. They've also implemented "remnants of the world" which means that remains of animals or buildings are left behind (for a short period) after they've been destroyed. This gives a bit of depth to the game's events and how they feel over time. Improvements are steadily coming in over the course of Crest's development, even post-official release.

Story

The beauty of Crest is that there is no set story for you to follow. As a god, you take control of the world and the people living within it. You create the narrative according to your whims and desires. The world is your oyster in this sandbox game. Take advantage of it and fabricate a plot that is interesting and entertaining to you.

Gameplay

The aesthetic of the game is pleasing and calming. The sound is very immersive. The nature sounds make it feel like you’re in a very primitive civilization in ancient times. The artwork is vibrant and lively. With a few exceptions, the style, designs, and animation flow well together. One thing that was jarring was very low polygon count of the clouds passing overhead throughout the day. It felt out of place and drew us out of the immersion of the game. Some of the designs are inconsistent. Even though everything is designed very simply some of the animals, for instance, have jarring features because of the low polygon count or shape of their features. Let's talk a bit about how the game works. You have to make commandments for your followers to go about their daily lives. A commandment consists of three words in total, two nouns, and 1 verb. You basically need a condition, an action, and a target. You choose an area from which the followers of the place will follow the Commandments, then you choose an action you want them to perform, and then you choose what you want them to perform it on. Writing a commandment uses up influence points. Influence points are the currency that you use to give you edicts to the people. Commandments cost influence points and you also use them to erase previous commandments. You generally want to erase previous commandments if the people no longer need to do that particular action. One way you accumulate influence is by having the people in particular villages be faithful to your commandments. So if people generally don’t agree with what you told him to do they will lose faith in you and then you will not have the ability to initiate more commandments in the future. You gain influence points naturally as time progresses but you gain bonus influence every half cycle depending on how much faith the people have in you. Check with the needs of a given village are and that way you can make an admin so I helped him fill the things that are central to them.
Once your people have been properly cared for, you can have them migrate to different areas on the island that they started out on or different islands entirely. Each village has different reactions to the commandments that you have put forth. Keep checking what you’ve told them and how they interpreted it so that they continue living in accordance with your wishes. Clicking on village opens up a set of tabs associated with that location. In the diplomacy tab, you can see how one village feels towards the people living in a different village. For example, one set of people may be indifferent to their neighboring village while that neighbor village has a strong sense of hatred for the first village. Some followers will even go as far as to kill other people living in the same village. So it’s up to you to keep an eye on those type of interactions and to punish or encourage the people according to your wishes. Crest does give you a bit of helpful advice for managing the world. You can listen to some of your followers known as advisors and they will give you some advice about what the people are feeling or thinking. They also give general advice on how to make informed decisions within the game. If you want to review previous commandments that you gave your people or various interactions that I’ve already taken place you can look those up on the timeline. It’s a decent way to go back and look at mistakes you made or misinterpretations from your followers and try to correct those for the future. Luckily you don’t have to keep track of every single commandment because over time they will expire on their own. So it’s a good habit to periodically check the commandments that are currently active and decide if you want to keep those in place, adjust those according to the people‘s needs and your play style, or just let them play out naturally. One way to check your progress is to look click on the discovery icon located on your list of words. Here you can see the words that you’ve unlocked according to the tier that they belong to. Also, you can see requirements you need in order to unlock new words. Remember that words are the only way that you can begin issuing new types of commandments to the people. So they are extremely important.
Once your followers start thriving, they begin to increase their expertise level in certain skills. This marks the transition from early game to mid/late game mechanics and interactions. Small buildings within your village will begin to emerge. Those buildings provide bonuses to a particular skill. For example, a building can you give a bonus to construction which gives a reduction in the amount of time it takes to complete a new building. Another building may give you bonus ore when mining. Picking up skills will grant you new words for commandments, which in turn give you new interactions with the land, people, or animals. Accumulating these elements are where you'll receive the majority of your pleasure and amusement. The biggest drawback was the tutorial. The explanation of how the game works and how to use commandments feels overwhelming at first. It strips you of the energy and enjoyment of figuring out the game slowly as you play. They should severely limit the type of interactions that happen early on in the game and take those opportunities to explain what just took place. That would be a better system. As it stands now, some of the needs of your people are not clearly explained. So it’s difficult to figure out how you should take care of their needs. Hint: constructing monuments provides your villagers with the esteem that they yearn for.
[ad_middle class="mt40 mb40"]

Honey's Gameplay Consensus:

We found that there are, generally speaking, two of the fundamental ways to enjoy this game (or most simulation games). You either focus on the macro management and goals you want to achieve as a god with the world at your fingertips. Or you can focus on the little interactions that villagers have with each other with people of other villages or how they interact with the animals and in their region. It’s actually quite satisfying to see some of your followers use their free will and intelligence. For example one of your followers may see that the village is in need of food so they construct a boat and start spearfishing along the coast to catch food for their people. That’s an example of a small surprise that keeps the game enjoyable and fresh. Something else that’s funny to see is people dancing in the middle of your village. Dancing is how villagers or animals for that matter procreate in this game. So at times you’ll see two hippos, for instance, dancing in your village with little heart shaped icons above their heads and that means that they’re producing a child. It gave us a small chuckle the first time we saw it. There were some small nuisances within Crest as well. Inconsistent designs and bumpy tutorial were present, however, they weren't enough to deter us from enjoying this indie, sandbox gameplay. This is a game that any simulation fan can enjoy.

Honey's Pros:

  • Free will system
  • Commandment system
  • Overall aesthetics and sounds

Honey's Cons:

  • Drab tutorial
  • Inconsistent designs

Honey's Final Verdict:

Thanks for taking the time to read our thoughts on Eat Create Sleep's latest game, Crest. It's an amusing game worthy of any gamer interested in simulation titles. Definitely, check this one out on Steam. If you've played this game we'd like to hear your thoughts in the comments section or on Twitter. Don't be shy! We'll see you guys in the next article. Have a great day!

Comeback

There are a lot of anime coming back this season and some have not been on air for years. If you want to see a comeback done properly,, watch Full Metal Panic! Invisible Victory Episode 1. This came right out of the gate swinging and was absolutely spectacular. We get Tessa meeting the villian right out of the starting gate, a quick rundown of major side characters, before diving right into a plot. No, not the plot of a story, but an actual plot when an EMP is detonated. If you don’t know what it is, they kill all electronics within a wide range. Tension builds as Sousuke realizes that Chidori is in danger. They run out and we learn that they spent the night in an empty lot as they were hunted. Help is on the way, but it turns out that the lot is not empty. Hostile agents have closed in on them and the helicopter cannot land. Sousuke needs time. Aaaaaaaaaand credits. Even if you did not catch the previous seasons, there is enough information that you can get hooked and keep watching. Plus a cliff-hanger on episode one? Excellent. Xebec has come out of the gate speeding down the runway and it’s clear that if this pace is kept up, we have a winner that is easily a season front-runner.

Take Out the Trash

Jenangelx3
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="NEOBK-1622065" text="" url="" ]

If you had asked me last week, I’d tell you that Mahou Shoujo Site was a very psychologically thrilling anime that really taps into the mindset of those who are suicidal and overtly dark. After this week’s episode, I’d tell you that Mahou Shoujo Site seems to have lost sight of what they wanted out of the anime and are coming out of it the same way Child of Chucky came out of the Chucky series: a joke. First of all, the line “take out the trash” is repeated too many times in just a few minute’s time by that gloomy looking blonde, Tsuyuno, and the first time you hear it, you might as well remember Arnold Schwarzenegger saying “I’ll be back.” You cannot take it seriously by how silly it sounds. Then Tsuyuno says it multiple times and that’s apparently their mission as a magical girl. Then too many different things are introduced at once, including a bad guy in the form of the Magical Girl Hunter, who apparently is hashed out immediately in this episode leading to a sense of foreboding about the Tempest, or whatever. Wow, way to be anticlimactic with someone who is supposed to be a murderer. Let’s not forget that our main character, Aya, is some idealistic girl who doesn’t want to kill anyone because she’s got to be pure, yet she’s contemplated suicide? She cannot even kill people who are trying to kill her? You have got to be kidding me. Lastly, I’m appalled by the inclusion of Aya’s brother waiting outside her door restraining himself from torturing his sister due to the presence of a stranger and the brief close up to his tortured face as if it were a scene from Battle Royale. Is this supposed to be humorous in an anime that is supposed to be dark as heck? Do you want this to be funny or dark because making a dark moment funny is just not amusing to me. Figure out your show because this is just not well organized so far and the dark theme shown in the first episode are now lost on me in this episode.

Yugi Muto’s Dream Girl

Rod Locksley
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="WHV-1000634524" text="" url="" ]

I really like the WIXOSS saga, mostly because I like “competitive anime” when it’s based on video games, card games or just magical girls. To put it simply, for me WIXOSS anime saga is like a love child between YU-Gi-Oh! and Madoka Magika… and yes, I know this might be too much on my part, but I really dig it’s cast of girls and the meta-story behind them. Lostorage Conflated, the third installment, looks more like a tie-in between the others rather than a sequel, and the best part is that it keeps one of the things I like: you can’t keep up with the rules! The main character is Kiyoi Mizushima, better known as the LRIG Piruluk, and this time we get to see one of the duels where she helped her friend and Selector Amika Hashimoto. For me, the battle is one that Yugi Muto himself would be proud of, because of the insane amount of rule-breaking things happening at the same time. If you’re not familiar with the WIXOSS game you’re probably lost with the “level 5” change, but you can’t say Piruluk changing her Selector’s mind to reverse the wish is not a bold, genius and crazy move. Is like saying your life goal is to become the best at something, so you achieve it by “wishing to be the worst at it and purposefully losing 3 duels in a row, thus being punished with the complete opposite”. It’s so stupid you wouldn’t think of it! The best part of it is that it wasn’t Amika’s idea but Piruluk’s, her LRIG! You know, LRIGs usually enjoy when they become human again, using their defeated Selector’s life and body. So here it is, one of the best anime moments this week! You can ship Yugi and Amika now or even Yami Yugi (Atem) and Piruluk. Thank me later...

“I’m not a Cat, I Am Morgana!”

So in episode 2 of P5, after Ren has released his Persona, Arsene and him and his new friend Ryuuji trap the otherworld version of teacher-bully Kamoshida before making it out of there and being late to school, Kamoshida is proven to be a complete and total jerk, as he constantly bullies many of the boys, especially Ryuuji. He also harasses Ann and immediately targets Ren on his first day at school, hitting him in the face with a ball and making sure everyone finds out why he’s on probation, much to his guardian’s dismay. We also learn that Kamoshida broke Ryuuji’s leg, which is why he can no longer run in the now disbanded track team. Finally tired of doing nothing and allowing Kamoshida to do as he pleases, Ryuuji says he wants to go to the other world and defeat the shadow Kamoshida. Once in the alternate world, the boys come up to a cell, where a cute cat-like creature is being kept. Ryuuji freaks out because there’s a “monster cat”, to which P5’s adorable mascot character replies “I’m not a cat. I’m Morgana! Let’s make a deal…”. *Kawaii!!* With a chibi voice perfect for the mascot, Morgana offers information about the place they’re in if they let it out of its cell. Of course, Ren agrees and lets Morgana out. Immediately, the stoic Ren starts petting Morgana’s -disproportionately large- head and making note of how soft and alive Morgana is! *double kawaii!*. And if that wasn’t enough cuteness, then the spunky Ryuuji says “Let me touch the monster cat too!” Here we have 2 high school boys wanting to pet a cute, soft cat, while the feline in question melts away with joy, what more can a girl ask for!? The moment doesn’t last long, as they are found by Kamoshida’s guards, but Morgana leads the boys and proceeds to explain to them how everything works. Not only is Morgana cute, it’s knowledgeable, tough, and funny! Having never played the game, it was great to finally get to see the cute kitty... er… Morgana in action!!

The weather is acting strangely, volcanoes that don't normally erupt are erupting, and… oh yes… the giant monster Mono is running amuck and gobbling up the human population. What a nuisance! With any luck, that means the good doctor's lab assistant Nitto will be able to take on Mono, hand to claw, in "mano a Mono" combat! Yes, the plan is every bit as insane as it sounds, and the logic of the plot will be stretched as thin as the fabric of Nitto's ultra-stretchy briefs when the ultimate human vs. monster wrestling match erupts in DAI-KAIJU MONO!

[en]Synopsis[/en][es]Sinopsis[/es]

In the northern Kanto area in Japan, there is Binan City… At Binan High School, as per usual, the “Earth Defense Club (lol)” was a club that did nothing. The club members Kyoutarou Shuzenji, Ryouma Kirishima, Nanao Wakura, Taishi Manza, and Ichiro Dogou nonchalantly enjoyed tea while having pointless conversations that amount to nothing. All of them have now gathered at Kurotama Bath after school. When Ryouma pulls Kyoutarou Shuzenji by his arm out of water that he claims feels too good, together with his towel comes a pretty boy in strange clothing. These five boys are then dragged into a battle for the heir of the magical kingdom, Honyala Land...

Three Episode Impression

[ua_synopsis text="As a fan of the series, I was excited to see the mahou shounen parody anime come back. This time though, the boys are bishounen. The student council is back to be evil and the boys have to transform to make people happy. To be honest, this whole incarnation is a miss. While the art is better with them being bishounen, it was a lot more humorous when they had exaggerated art. Now, the art is a bit more serious, but they critically made a huge crime in trying to take themselves seriously while not doing it at the same time. There is this constant juxtaposition in the series where there should not be. For example, the transformation scenes are long and drawn out with quality, but the explanations for some things are incredibly basic while others are long-winded. By the third episode, I knew that the long transformation scene and attack scenes were coming, so I skipped them. Sadly it seems the boys from Cute Earth High are now the boys from Boring Earth High. Oh well, you can’t expect too much from ‘re-envisionings’ these days."]

[en]Synopsis[/en][es]Sinopsis[/es]

(The 3rd season of Boku no Hero Academia.) It all started with the news of the birth of a 'luminescent baby' in Keikei City, China. Since then, 'Paranormalities' have been discovered all over the world, but their cause still remains unclear. Now, we have entered the superhuman age, where eighty percent of the world’s total population are born with some kind of idiosyncrasy, known as a Quirk. While criminals and villains who use their supernatural powers for evil are steadily on the rise, there is also a society of heroes who use the very same Quirks to stand against and save people from villains and disasters. The fictional heroes that everyone idolised have become a reality. It’s in this kind of world that Izuku Midoriya (known as Deku by his friends) hopes to become a hero and sets out to enroll in Yuuei, a Hero Academy known for producing countless famous heroes. However, it just so happens that Deku is one of the twenty percent of the population that is born without any powers - a 'Quirkless' loser. One day, Deku meets his very own hero rolemodel, and the fate of his future changes dramatically. Friends, teachers, rivals, and enemies - whilst facing many different characters and challenges, Deku starts his journey to become the best hero he can be. A new story is about to begin with this new generation of hot-blooded heroes!

Three Episode Impression

[ua_synopsis text="Boku no Hero Academia is finally back… we say that, but it hasn’t been even a year. However, we are insulted with a recap episode for the first one. Skip it if you won’t want to waste your time. The next two episodes are all about raining camp to make the students more powerful. The one good thing about this series is that even though they show the whole class, each one has lines and a moment helping you remember who they are and their powers. Even though it’s data we already have and know well, it’s good. Kota is a new child who appears at the camp who has issues. His parents were killed and it makes him angry. He will be here for a bit for sure. The villains are spying on the camp as well so we can expect an intense fight coming. In fact, episode three shows that more is coming. Starting now, it’s going to get good. Buckle up and get ready!"]

“Break your ideal self and return to the hell that is reality…” There is a beautiful singing voice that reverberates all across the whole town. Daily life continues to flow calmly in this town where it seems the tremendously popular idol “μ” watches over everything. Ritsu Shikishima is a first-year student at Miyahi City’s Kishimai High School. Blessed with an aptitude for sports as well as good grades, he’s rich in friends. Smack dab in the middle of his youth, he lives a very fulfilling high school career. Time passes, and now it is time for the second-year entrance ceremony. The boy that ascends the stage as the new student representative turns out to be someone who should never have been there in the first place.

Three Episode Impression

[ua_synopsis text="Ritsu is enjoying his school life and has many friends that he gets along with. That is… until a student ceremony where a popular virtual singer, µ, appears. She sings a song but rather than entertaining, it turns people in the audience into monsters. But not all of them, only some. Ritsu manages to escape while wondering why only some people seem to be turning into monsters while only a few are left unfazed. Ritsu goes into a deep psychological explanation while he is looking into µ’s influence. He is saved by Shougo and gets away rather than getting an explanation. As both Ritsu and Mifue are trying to figure out what is going on, both explore the city further and realize that they are locked in this strange fantasy world. Mifue then makes it into a cafe to try and look for her mother who disappeared, but it’s a trap for people with ugly hearts. It’s all to bring Mifue to their side under µ. The world created by her is a world where your dreams come true. Caligula is puzzling but it’s a lot of fun trying to watch Ritsu say ‘I’m not losing my mind, the world is.’ It creates a lot of mayhem and confusion. Watching to see what people survive through this weird phenomenon is interesting. We are looking forward to more development and character depth. Here’s to hoping that it all works out and makes a good story! Fans of the Persona series will love the feel of this since Caligula is about being trapped in another world and trying to break out by realizing that you are in a fake world."]

Newly Added Features

New Tiles with Shiny Features Debut in the Expanded Moments Section!

Each time players use a Special Lesson to increase the Rank of a Photo, the Moments section will expand with new tiles. Unlocking the Skill tiles and other new types of tiles means the Photo can be powered up even further. The Moments section can be expanded up to four times. A special idol-specific Gem will be necessary to unlock some of the special locked tiles that become available after unlocking the Special Shot for that Photo. These idol-specific Gems sometimes drop as rewards for completing Gem Bonus Special Songs. * Boosting the amount of LP used to complete a song does not affect the drop rate of idol-specific Gems. Unlocking New Tile to Upgrade Photos In the Moments section of certain Photos, expanding the Moments will now reveal new Autograph and Message tiles. Unlocking these tiles will give players access to special content, such as attaching an Autograph to the Photo or viewing a Message from him. The Autograph tile unlocks when the Photo is at max Rank, and the Message tile unlocks when the Photo is at Rank 2 with all tiles unlocked. More info can be found here!

Get Ready to Rock! New Score Battle Event Debuts!

This brand new versus-style event allows players to pit their rhythmic chops against five other players by playing three random songs in a row. Highest score wins! Winners receive shiny rewards such as Stickers of their favorite idol.

How to Play Score Battle

1. Go to the Event Screen Tap the event banner on the home screen and head over to Score Battle. 2. Join in the Score Battle Event Use a Battle Pass to join a Score Battle match. Battle Passes regenerate automatically at a rate of one Battle Pass every eight hours. Players can keep up to four Battle Passes at one time. 3. Select the Sticker of Your Favorite Idol Players are given the chance to select an event-exclusive Sticker for the Idol of their choice when playing Score Battles. When the Score Battle event ends, players who rank D or higher in the event will get the Sticker they chose! While the event is open, players can change their desired Sticker as many times as they choose from the rewards screen. No Stickers will be awarded to players who attain Rank E in a Score Battle. 4. The Battle Begins with Three Songs Chosen at Random Once the three songs contestants are required to play have been selected, tap Battle Start on the Event screen. Select the difficulty level and let the games begin! Players can change the difficulty level between songs. 5. Clear Songs and Collect Battle Points Players can collect Battle Points by clearing a surprisingly wide variety of conditions, such as achieving high scores, beating other players, clearing songs with a full combo, or clearing songs with plenty of Life left to spare. Players are promoted to the next Battle Rank once they collect a certain number of Battle Points. This also causes the reward Sticker design to metamorphosize into something shinier than before. Simply put, collect lots of Battle Points to get better rewards! Clear all three consecutive songs in the live battle without expending the limited amount of Life given, and collect as many Battle Points as possible! The player’s opponent changes each song. Battle results are also displayed for each song. Players are given 200 Life when the Score Battle begins. This Life counts for all three consecutive songs in the Live Battle. The player’s Life will not recover in between songs. Players cannot use their next Battle Pass until they have played all three songs selected for their current Score Battle. If the player quits playing in the middle of the song on the first or second song in the Score Battle, their Life will start at 100 on the next song. Please note that players will NOT receive any Battle Points if they choose not to continue and end the live when their Life reaches 0. To learn more tips, be sure to click here!

New Crown Challenge Function

The new Crown Challenge feature allows players to further power up the Performance stats of Photos that are already at max Rank and Level. With the Crown Challenge, players spend items to generate a Crown that gives a boost to either the Photo's Charm, Dance, or Vocal Performance. (Which Performance stat is increased is chosen at random.) Players can set up to three Crowns on each Photo. As the effect generated is chosen at random, players have the option to either set the Crown to their Photo, or spend more items to retry the Crown Challenge if they are not satisfied with the initial result. This gives players a significant amount of control over the direction their favorite Photos take. Items must be spent every time the Crown Challenge generation system is used. When Crowns are reset, all of the Crowns set at that point are removed. Go to Lesson > Crown Challenge to perform a Crown Challenge.

The reality that we live in is the same as this story with nothing changed. Well… except for one thing. In this world, there is a special existence. They are known as “Uma Musume” and are popular idols who have the superhuman ability to run quickly as well as possess a mysterious beauty. The dream that these “uma musume” aim for is an entertainment sport known as the “Twinkle Series.” What is it? It’s a fierce, battle race of the “uma musume” girls themselves! Surrounded by the passionate fervor of a massive audience, the starting gates are opening!!

Three Episode Impression

[ua_synopsis text="Do you Like cute girls? Do you like horses and racing? Do you like cringey English names? Then you are going to love Uma Musume Pretty Derby! In a world like ours, there are humans born who are part horse, all girls of course, and they run races with thousands of cheering fans. Those who win the races, then put on a live show after it has come to a close. Special Week is one such uma musume with the dream of becoming the top in all of Japan! She’s just transferred into Tracen, an academy for Uma Musume and she is way in over her head, but she knows on thing, she loves to run! When she happens to see Silence Suzuka, a top uma musume, run, she decides that she wants to be on the same team as her and be her friend. Uma Musume is surprisingly not as heavy on the idol elements as we expected. We also thought this would end up being pointless conversations about moe things, but honestly, the characters are well-rounded and each of them makes a very interesting addition to the series. There are no male uma musume–they’d probably be called uma musuko or something funny–and the only real male character we have seen so far is Trainer who trains all of the Uma Musume on Special Week’s team. It’s cute and fun and we will keep watching."]

[en]Characters & Voice Actors List[/en][es]Personajes & Seiyuus[/es]

[ua_character name="Special Week" voice="Azumi Waki" desc="Birthday: May 2nd Height: 158cm Three Sizes: B79 W57 H81 Special Week is a cheerful Uma Musume who has just arrived in Tokyo from the countryside to attend Trasen Academy. She is the oldest member of the junior class and a C-rank member who has permission to run in the Triple Crown Race. Her classmates are El Condor Pasa and Grass Wonder. Silence Suzuka is her roommate and Special Week idolizes her. Her mother died right after giving birth to Special week, so her ‘mother,’ the parent who raised her, showered her with love and affection as well as made her undertake spartan training. Her innocent personality and outstanding explosive power continue to empower her to form deep, solid bonds with friends all across the Twinkle Series. She aims to be the number one Uma Musume in Japan." img='']
[ua_character name="Silence Suzuka" voice="Marika Kouno" desc="Birthday: May 1st Height: 161cm Three Sizes: B70 W53 H79 As her name implies, Silence Suzuka is of few words and very quiet. She’s a cool beauty who, along with her mysterious feeling of transparency, has a hidden shadow of sorrow. She belongs to the powerful team Ligil at Trasen Academy. She is a senpai (upperclassman) to Special Week. Her tactical strong point is her starting dash which allows her to lead from the beginning to the end and this means she can continually evade others. However, her team’s plan forces her to refrain from races leading her to fall into a slump. Her speed is so overwhelming that once she dashes, no one can even step on her shadow she is so fast. Truly, she was an Uma Musume born to run. Her goal is to inspire the dreams of those who watch Uma Musume races." img='']
[ua_character name="Toukai Teio" voice="Machico" desc="Birthday: April 20th Height: 150cm Three Sizes: B77 W54 H76 Toukai Teio is a bright and lively beautiful Uma Musume with a dazzling smile. She calls her unique nimble footwork ‘Teio Step’ which is almost like prancing. Toukai has a determined personality, but is a bit cheeky. She is very proud and does have her moments when she flies into a rage, but when it comes to racing, her passion is stronger than anyone else. Toukai currently doesn’t belong to any team. Toukai has a strong admiration for the student council president for Symboli Rudolf called ‘Koutei’ (emperor). Her future hope is to inherit that intention and become the next Koutei. In order to do so, she must become the undefeated Triple Crown winner." img='']
[ua_character name="Vodka" voice="Sayaka Oohashi" desc="Birthday: April 4th Height: 165cm Three Sizes: B76 W55 H78 Vodka has a boyish air about her and is a Uma Musume who refers to herself with ‘Ore’ (rough male singular pronoun). She has a mischievous and brazen personality and is currently in the middle of her rebellious phase. She detests being teased or treated like a child. However, Vodka is actually innocent and pure on the inside. She has a strong wish to be accepted as a true Uma Musume, but those feelings come out as a rebellious attitude. She belongs to the team Spica. By the way, she is constantly fighting with her roomate Daiwa Scarlet because she’s the opposite of her; while Vodka is a delinquent, Daiwa is an honor student. Behind closed doors though, Daiwa is actually her closest comrade in arms and her best friend." img='']
[ua_character name="Daiwa Scarlet" voice="Chisaki Kimura" desc="Birthday: May 13th Height: 163cm Three Sizes: B93 W56 H82 Everyone acknowledges the outstanding, beautiful girl that is Daiwa. She’s an extremely popular honor student within the academy to the point that she’s almost an idol. Bright and kind to everyone, she is the popular member of her class, but that is just a front. In reality, she’s prideful and hates losing. For Daiwa, it’s not just about winning a race. She loves to control the pace of the race as well as wrestle down her rivals around her to the point that she has exerted her dominance. Daiwa also belongs to Spica and her classmate Vodka is her strongest rival. She vehemently denies her connection to Vodka, but she has only revealed her true self to Vodka alone and she is Daiwa’s comrade in arms and best friend as well." img='']
[ua_character name="Gold Ship" voice="Hitomi Ueda" desc="Birthday: March 6th Height: 170 cm Three Sizes: B88 W55 H88 Gold Ship is a super Uma Musume who has overwhelming proportions, god-tier beauty, and beautiful, fluttering, Dapple-grey silver hair. However, her personality is tragically the opposite of her beauty and is actually an unfortunately disappointing beautiful girl. Anyway, she’s wild, fiendish, rough, and has a sharp tongue, and has a personality that for some reason or another, gets her hyped up and leaves her opponent wandering about and befuddled. She also belongs to the team, Spica. She ignores the opinions of her trainer on a regular basis, and when she can’t get into it, she won’t take races or training seriously. Dealing with her is truly like arguing with a brick wall. Her hobby is cute, silly teasing. She feels as if she has some sort of special connection with Mejiro McQueen." img='']
[ua_character name="Mejiro McQueen" voice="Saori Oonishi" desc="Birthday: April 3rd Height: 159cm Three Sizes: B71 W54 H76 Mejiro is the young daughter of the leading famous family in the Uma Musume World, the Mejiro family. Because of her elegant, calm, and lady-like demeanor, she is the envy of all other Uma Musume, and she herself too, is very proud of her Mejiro lineage. She does not belong to any teams. She is called the “unrivaled slayer” (long distance runner), and her symmetrical proportions are god-tier beauty, but to realistically maintain this figure, it seems that she keeps up a very painful diet. The younger Toukai Teio views Mejiro as a rival but, Mejiro’s inherent elegance allows her to easily sidestep her. She feels that she has some sort of special connection with Gold Ship." img='']
[ua_character name="Trainer" voice="Kouji Okino" desc="Trainer is the trainer for team Spica. He gets carried away easily, so he sometimes views the guidelines as not entirely necessary. However, when it does come to the Twinkle Series, he pours his enthusiasm into is much more than others, leading him to earnestly think about the Uma Musume racers themselves more than anyone else. He is an old friend of team Ligil’s trainer Hana. He was planning to distance himself from working as a trainer for a certain reason, but…" img='']
[ua_character name="Hana Toujou" voice="Megumi Toyoguchi" desc="Hana is the trainer for the strongest team at Torsen Academy, Ligil. She’s a cool beauty who follows the rules to the T. She doesn’t allow anything that doesn’t contribute to winning. Her biggest weapon is that she collects unique data and comes up with logical tactics based on it She has an inseparable relationship with team Spica’s trainer, who calls her ‘Ohana-san.’" img='']
