[Honey’s Crush Wednesday] 5 Dino Highlights – Blend S

An Italian Otaku with a Heart of Gold
- Episodes: 12
- Genre: Slice of Life, Comedy
- Airing Date: October 2017 to December 2017
- Producers: A-1 Pictures
Blend S Preview (No Spoilers)
Blend S is an adorable slice-of-life anime from the Fall 2017 season, and an absolute joy to watch. It follows the daily lives and exploits of the staff of Café Stile, a restaurant where the waitresses play certain “characters” (like “tsundere” or “little sister”) to entertain the customers. Dino, an Italian transplant and lover of all things Japanese, manages the café and hires a perfect new waitress named Maika to spice things up. Maika is sweet and kind, despite her face being permanently stuck in a sadistic glare. She puts her all into playing the “sadist” character at her new job, and makes lots of friends throughout her time there. Her growing relationship with Dino is a particular highlight of this show, even more so than the memefied opening theme that may have brought you to this anime in the first place.
Dino Bio
Seiyuu name: Tomoaki Maeno As manager of Café Stile, Dino is responsible for making sure everything runs smoothly. Unfortunately for everyone who works for him, he’s a big dork and frequently needs their help to get the job done. Nonetheless, he’s a kind-hearted young man who genuinely tries his best to make people happy. But if there’s anyone he tries the hardest to impress, it’s Maika. While he initially fell for her because she represented the “perfect Japanese girl” to him, he eventually grew to love her for her gracious and truthful personality. And since neither of them are very experienced at this whole “flirting” thing, their courtship is filled with endless awkward moments and false starts. But really, that’s what makes it so cute!
Dino Highlights (Spoilers Beyond This Point)
1. The hottest nerd
Don't let the moe art style fool you – Dino is one sexy man. He’s the tallest of the main cast (not that that’s difficult, since he’s the only European in a group of Japanese people) and his signature blonde hair and sweet blue eyes are hard to miss. Best of all, though... he’s a total nerd. From staying up late watching anime to going gaga over black-haired Asian girls, Dino is a true otaku. Kaho and Akizuki are more into the video game side of things and Mafuyu loves magical girl merchandise, but Dino just loves Japanese culture in general. We can’t help but feel a kinship with him when he gets starry-eyed over fascinating elements of his favorite country.
2. Excitable and passionate
Though the rest of the Café Stile staff may not admit it, Dino is the glue that binds them all together. He may be bumbling and embarrassing at times, but his commitment to the restaurant keeps it successful and the customers happy. He moved from Italy to immerse himself in the Japanese culture that he loves so much, and accomplished quite a lot in the few years he’s been in land of the rising sun. Dino’s happy-go-lucky nature makes him extra lovable, even when he seems like he has no idea what he’s doing. With the help of Maika and the rest of the staff, he makes the café a fun and inviting place for people to interact with their favorite “characters”. Who doesn’t love a man with passion?
3. Utterly fails at being smooth
Even though Dino truly loves Maika and wants to be with her, his methods for getting her attention... don’t always work so well. He tends to overthink everything, which leaves him paralyzed and unable to show Maika how he feels. And since she’s an overanalyzer as well, his failures at being smooth usually have the opposite effect – causing her to think that he hates her. Whether it’s cornering her against the wall, picking out matching keychains, helping her with a difficult order, or even walking the dog with her, Dino always manages to mess it up. It’s a good thing that, in the end, Maika seems to realize his true intentions of making her happy.
4. A perfect match for Maika
While Dino is a total Japanophile otaku, Maika is the complete opposite. Hilariously, she’s sick of her own culture because she grew up in a traditional household and wants nothing more than to travel the world to learn about other countries. Together, they make an adorkable couple who never get tired of learning new things about far off places. Beyond their interests, their personalities also gel well. Both Dino and Maika are kind, considerate people who care about the wellbeing of others. They also share a shy awkwardness that never fails to charm whenever they interact with each other, even near the beginning when they don't know each other very well. And on the kinkier side of things, Dino gets oddly excited whenever Maika activates her sadist mode. Oh my.
5. Patient enough to wait for love
For most anime with a romance plot or subplot, we as viewers want to see it resolved by the end of the series. We want the couple to pour out their feelings for each other, maybe even kiss and hug to seal the deal. So when that doesn’t happen (or worse, almost happens and then stops just short of the big moment), we rend our garments in frustration. But even though Blend S’ final episode doesn’t actually confirm Dino and Maika’s relationship, we still like how the anime ended. Why? Because Dino realized that he wasn’t ready to be with Maika until he worked on himself more as a person. He tried to confess to her on the group’s ski trip, but she had fallen asleep from the day’s activities and couldn’t hear him. At first, he was mortified, but then he came to the conclusion that it was a sign from God saying that he should become more worthy of his lady love before he expresses his true feelings. For a man in perhaps his early 20s, that’s a startlingly mature response and one we’re surprised to see in this kind of anime. Much respect to you, Dino!
Final Thoughts
Despite not being the main character, Dino gets his fair share of screen time and character development over the course of Blend S’s 12 episodes. His growing relationship with Maika is one of the best parts of this anime, since it’s clear that they share a special bond that could one day grow into something more. This goofy Italian hunk brightens our day with his smile, and we hope it brightens yours, too. What did you think of our list? What things do you love or hate about Dino? Be sure to let us know in the comments, and thanks so much for reading!

Bullet Witch - PC/Steam Review

Please stop all this pain and suffering!!
Game Info
- System: Steam/PC
- Publisher: Marvelous/XSEED Games
- Developer: Cavia
- Release Date: April 25, 2018
- Price:$14.99
- Rating: M
- Genre: Third-Person Shooter
- Players: Single Player
- Official Website: http://store.steampowered.com/app/696180/Bullet_Witch/
Who it Caters to

Bullet Witch is a third-person shooter that takes inspiration from titles such as Devil May Cry, and implements its own unique features such as using magic spells to cast down on a group of enemies, among other things. Anyone who’s looking for a third-person shooting experience on Steam may perhaps give Bullet Witch a try, but be forewarned that this game isn’t what you’ll be expecting. Funny enough, Bullet Witch had actually released three years prior to the release of now popular Bayonetta, and it’s clear to see where some of that inspiration derived from. There’s action and magic spells to experiment with along with the realistic character designs that give Bullet Witch a distinctive look from other third-person shooters.
What to Expect

Bullet Witch was released on Xbox 360 back in late February of 2007 in North America, with a Japan release set a year prior. So you’re playing a game that’s roughly 11 years old and well, the wrinkles can definitely be seen in the visuals and gameplay. However, there’s still some things to expect such as the over-the-top explosions, destructible environments that you can use to your advantage, magic spells to customize and use against the enemy, plus plenty more. Using your gun rod to take out enemies, Bullet Witch provides players with various ways to deal with enemy threats in terms of skill points, which can be used to purchase other types of weaponry to eliminate anyone who stands in your way. While certainly not perfect in any way, the action mechanics such as dashing through the air to avoid gunfire, sniping enemies from a far with your buffed sniping rifle, all seem to provide you with a sub par experience as you progress through the game. The game isn’t very long when compared to other third-person shooters so expect to finish the game quickly on normal settings. Be that as it may, let’s dive a little deeper into Bullet Witch and provide you with our honest take on the game.
[ad_top2 class="mt40 mb40"]
Story

Earth has become a wasteland after constant natural disasters tore it all apart and now, demons have found their way into the city to wreak havoc. By the year 2013, humanity finds themselves on the brink of extinction, but Alicia Claus, a witch guided by the power of Darkness, aims to restore peace to humanity by helping survivors and eliminating the demon curse. She’ll encounter other allies who also help her along the arduous journey, in hopes to eradicate the demon race and bring peace back to Earth once and for all.
Gameplay

First off, we’d like to point out that the trailer for the game is what really sold us at first, and it enticed us to actually try it out. Things didn’t seem all too bad just from watching all the action go down and so we figured, well hey what could possibly go wrong? A lot of things can go wrong. Re-releasing the title on Steam for new players to try out is totally cool and we understand that from a business perspective, but why a title that initially earned a pretty negative reception? It all seemed too good to be true and we took the bait and so, we had to dive into a game that felt unfinished and quite frankly, unplayable at times. You star as the female protagonist Alicia, a witch who carries a massive gun rod who can dispel magic through said rod, while also shooting enemies down through its gun mechanic. The gun rod can transform into multiple types of weapons, all of which have their own unique characteristics and can be upgraded via skill points, but that’s gained through playing a great deal of the game. So for the early portion of the game, you really only have your machine gun along with spells that you’ll learn over time. You can also perform melee based attacks when up close and evade incoming enemy fire by dodging through the air.
While all of this sounds really cool on paper, how it’s all performed in game is a total mess. Character animations are incredibly stiff, collision detection doesn’t seem to exist at times, and the game just lacks realism in every possible way. The way enemies respond to you is quite brainless and doesn’t really provide any challenge whatsoever, which is a turnoff in itself. You race around trying to save people but much of the world you run around in is just empty, with enemies just standing in random places waiting for you to pop out. When you get kills, the enemies just flop to the ground in a very anticlimactic fashion, their bodies were stiff like rigor mortis hit them right after falling to the ground. Every enemy will die in similar ways and so it really takes away all the fun of actually wanting to take these things out, since it takes very little effort. The lock-on system is decent but still bugs out from time to time where you’ll have to manually adjust your gun to kill anyone in front of you. Sometimes enemies will just appear out of the blue or walk through a wall and start shooting you, and since the environmental textures and colors look so similar there are times where you don’t even know where you’re being shot from.

Just the way everything moves just feels off in every way, with specific enemies such as the demon with an enormous brain for a head flailing crazily in mid air, waiting for you to shoot it to unlock new parts of a level. All of it just feels so elementary in design and doesn’t give us any incentive to want to even continue. The further you progress into Bullet Witch, the more displeased you start to feel, as voice actors just don’t give their best performance and really just sound bland and void of any personality whatsoever. By the time you get to the end of the game, you’re just as sapped of life as the survivors are because you pondered just why you even bothered to complete it all. Everything is a total mess from start to finish and the game doesn’t really even provide some greater sense of reward for accomplishing certain tasks. Cut scenes are lackluster and the story progression just doesn’t seem very well put together. You seem to go off in all sorts of directions and while the atmosphere is fitting for the theme, it just doesn’t execute everything uniformly which results in awkward moments and often laughable deaths.

Honey's Gameplay Consensus:

Bullet Witch caught our attention because it showed a lot of promise, but it seemed to break every promise it made once you loaded the game up and experienced everything hands on. We’ll give a nod to the destructible environments that really added more of that action theme to the game, but the magic system is lacking severely to the point where you just don’t want to bother using it and stick to the machine gun. Bullet Witch is just a basic game and it doesn’t really provide players with an incentive to really test out new mechanics as they progress. If only the team had put a lot more time into it all perhaps we wouldn’t be so critical of it, but we can only base things off of what exists and to be frank, there’s not a lot.

Honey's Pros:
- Really vibrant colors.
- Action packed and challenging.
- A lot of levels to race through and complete which adds replay value.
- The techno soundtrack is cool.
Honey's Cons:
- Very repetitive.
- Lacking in many ways from visuals, mechanics, etc.
- Voice acting could use a lot of work.
- Collision detection and other in game problems rob you of the experience.
Honey's Final Verdict:
Sometimes you’re going to come across games like Bullet Witch and think, “damn, if only it were better!” We truly wish it were better because yes, there’s certainly some light at the end of the tunnel. We liked the concept but the way it was executed was poor and ultimately led to a game that didn’t feel all too complete. As always, for all things sweet, with news straight from Japan, be sure to keep it locked here on Honey’s Anime.

Sora yori mo Tooi Basho (A Place Further Than the Universe) Review

Set out on a Polar Adventure like no other!
- Episodes : 13
- Genre : Slice of Life, Adventure
- Airing Date : January 2018 – March 2018
- Producers : Madhouse
Sora yori mo Tooi Basho Introduction and Story
Tamaki Mari (or Kimari as her friends call her) has always lived a normal life, and it just drives her crazy! She made a vow before she entered high school that she would at least go on one real adventure. Now that Kimari’s well into her second year, time is running out! Her childhood friend Takahashi Megumi tries to push her to just skip a day of class and go to Tokyo, but Kimari just can’t seem to bring herself to do that. However, a chance meeting with her school’s local weirdo Kobuchizawa Shirase leads Kimari to learn about Shirase’s own passion; visiting Antarctica. Why? Well, her mother Takako died on an expedition there, and now she wants to see what Antarctica was actually like! Kimari is drawn to Shirase, and decides that she’d like to help her in her goal. Both vow to travel to Antarctica together. First, though, Kimari will need to take on a part-time job. After all, she’ll need some form of funding for the plane ticket and supplies! After searching around to no avail, she takes on a job at the convenience store the two frequent. There, she gets to know Miyake Hinata, a girl about her age who actually dropped out of high school and has just been working full time while preparing for university exams. Hinata, having gotten to know Kimari and Shirase through overhearing some of their conversations while in the area, tells them that she’d like to join them on their journey. Unfortunately though, for all the hard work the girls are putting in, none of them have much of a plan to get there. Shirase knows of a meet-up in Shinjuku where a civilian research team is attempting to put together an expedition, but none of them know how to get involved since they’re too young to join. However, as luck would have it, one of the ways the team is netting funding is through a news program hosted by a popular young idol named Shiraishi Yuzuki, who actually doesn’t really want to go but her agent/mother is pushing her into it. Shiraishi’s mother, hearing that the girls desperately want to make this trip, proposes a deal for them: if they can convince Shiraishi to go make the trip, she’ll make sure that one of the conditions for Shiraishi’s involvement will be that the girls accompany her. While at first Shiraishi is reluctant, eventually she agrees because she has struggled a lot with making friends throughout her life due to her acting and idol gigs keeping her from having much of a social life. However, while Kimari is getting closer to her new friends, her friendship with Megumi is growing tense. Megumi has been discreetly discouraging Kimari from going on this trip, and now that Kimari’s succeeded, Megumi has been distancing herself. The day of the trip, Megumi meets with Kimari to tell her she wants to stop being her friend because she realizes just how petty she’s been. Megumi has a complex about being Kimari’s “older sister” and is jealous that she’s moving on with her life before her. Kimari tells her she wants to still be friends in spite of all that, and the two part on amicable terms. While the girls have some setbacks on their flights getting to the ship, and then subsequent struggles with seasickness while on board the ship, they finally reach Syowa Station in Antarctica. Shirase is hesitant about going any further, though, as she’s afraid that once she goes where her mother was, she’s not sure what will continue driving her. A talk with her mother’s former partner and current expedition captain Toudou Gin gives Shirase the courage to move forward. There, she discovers Takako’s old laptop, which is miraculously still functional, and she discovers the emails that she sent every day to her since Takako died. With their time in Antarctica coming to a close, Kimari, Shirase, Hinata, and Shiraishi vow to return once again someday. The group splits up upon returning to Japan, returning to their everyday lives. In the final moments, Kimari finally gets a response from Megumi, who had seemingly been ghosting Kimari during her entire trip, stating that she’s actually been up in the Arctic on her own adventure.
What We Liked About Sora yori mo Tooi Basho
There are plenty of adventure anime out there, many of which are quite good. What really makes Sora yori mo Tooi Basho stand out amongst its peers is its setting. It’s not a fantasy story about reclaiming an artifact that holds the mysteries of the world, a domineering empire hell-bent on global conquest, or what have you. It’s a story about just getting out there and seeing what the world has to offer. It feels like, at times, that Sora yori mo Tooi Basho is urging its key demographic of otaku to quit lazing about in front of their computer and TV screens to just get out there and do something with themselves. The actual world around them is actually way more interesting and exciting than the comfort of a fantasy. This message is backed up by some great animation and character building moments to really drive home its point. Many shows try to force a bond between its main set of characters by trying to tie them all together somehow and derive meaning based on how they met. However, Sora yori mo Tooi Basho couldn’t even care any less about how Kimari, Shirase, Hinata, and Shiraishi met; they fully admit they just happened to meet and it worked out that way. But you still feel for their bond because even though it was entirely coincidental, that doesn’t matter. They all continue to drive and inspire one another to work harder towards their goal.
Discussion Time
Pretty much everything about Sora yori mo Tooi Basho works. The characters are immensely relatable due to their very recognizable problems. The story, while maybe a tad bit on the predictable side, still hooks you in, not because you’re surprised by the moment to moment plot beats, but because you’re excited to see how things play out for your favorite characters. Animation is satisfyingly fluid, establishing credibility to the world-building. Heck, even the comedy is a highlight, as the girls of Sora yori mo Tooi Basho play off each other incredibly well. Whether it’s Kimari’s attempts to cover up her embarrassing sunburn or Shirase’s pathetic attempts to be congenial during their news segments, most of the gags draw a chuckle. If there’s any complaint to be had about Sora yori mo Tooi Basho, it’s that it doesn’t make enough use of the Antarctic setting. Only four episodes are spent in Antarctica, and the sole episode where the location has any bearing on the plot of the story is when Shirase goes on a mission to see the station where her mother may have died at. The prior two episodes follow Shiraishi and Hinata dealing with their personal insecurities, and then the final has the girls departing for home. These are not necessarily bad, but anyone looking for an in-depth study on what it takes for survival at an Antarctic base might be a bit disappointed.
[ad_middle class="mt40"]Why You Should Watch Sora yori mo Tooi Basho

1. Clean Art and Animation
Episode 8 ends with a beautiful sequence in which our gang, after being stuck sick in bed for so much of the ship ride to Antarctica, decides to check out the deck amidst the raging currents that are knocking the ship to the point of almost turning over. Certainly, some of the emotional effect comes from the stark contrast from the dangerous situation the girls have found themselves in and the joyous discovery of the wonder of nature, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t point out the slick animation during this sequence. Each of the waves has their own distinct animation, crashing into the bridge, and at one point, even engulfing our heroines in one fluid motion. This animation adds to the grandeur of the scene because we can actually feel ourselves in that moment, wanting to be a part of it along with our heroines. Many Iyashikei anime try to encourage their viewers to go out and do something beyond watch anime, but very few actually have the animation chops to back up their message. You actually want to experience what Kimari, Shirase, Hinata, and Shiraishi are because it actually looks as incredible as what they’re describing.
2. Comedic Timing
Maybe the gags in Sora yori mo Tooi Basho aren’t always the most unique. Plenty of other anime make jokes about camera shyness, misunderstanding job listings, or what have you. However, the devil is in the details. What makes Shirase unable to speak on camera to their viewers isn’t funny because she can’t do it, but how her disposition is in extreme contrast to that of Kimari and Shiraishi. Before you even have any sense that this is going to be an issue, you’ll watch the tail-end of their first recording, and while Kimari and Shiraishi have an excited leap into the air, Shirase attempts a timid little hop that doesn’t even clear a centimeter off the ground. Sora yori mo Tooi Basho doesn’t need to beat you over the head with how she can’t perform; you just immediately understand how it’s going to be a problem, and completely takes you off-guard before you’re even aware of the situation.
3. Unique Subject Matter
Perhaps the greatest strength of Sora yori mo Tooi Basho, however, comes from the fact that it’s theoretically an adventure anyone could have. Maybe Kimari, Shirase, and Hinata wouldn’t have made it on the ship if it wasn’t for them lucking into a friendship with Shiraishi, but the point is that it’s not as if Antarctica is a made up location or anything. It’s a real continent that is still being investigated to this day, yet no one else is talking about. It adds to the excitement that there are still unheard of mysteries in this interconnected world of ours.
Why You Should Skip Sora yori mo Tooi Basho
1. On the Nose
We’re not saying that Sora yori mo Tooi Basho isn’t genuine with its proclamations for its audience to go out on an adventure of their own and to not waste their lives. It’s just that sometimes Sora yori mo Tooi Basho can be a little unsubtle about it, especially early on. Right at episode 1, we have Kimari outright state how she doesn’t want to waste her high school life and goes into detail about how she wants to go on an adventure and go somewhere she hasn’t seen before. It’s a little too blunt and it can make it a bit difficult to really sympathize with Kimari’s problems when it feels like she’s reading off her favorite speech from One Piece and not just speaking like a high schooler.
2. Not Enough Antarctica
Episode 11 primarily focuses on Hinata’s issues back home and delves into some of her personal history. She dropped out of high school because she was frustrated by how she was hated for her track talent and the people who pushed for her to try out for the main team wouldn’t stand up for her when the seniors got pissed for depriving them of their last chance to compete. It ends with a heartfelt speech from Shirase to her former teammates, saying that they need to quit searching for Hinata’s forgiveness because she’s having a grand time with her friends and having a real adventure while they’re still clinging to their past and need to quit dragging Hinata down with them. The problem with this episode is that the above conflict serves as the focal point of the story of the episode, and, to be frank, this story really could have been told at any point in the plot. For all the build-up to Antarctica, when the girls are actually living there, it has very little impact or drive on the plot. There’s very little about the girls actually getting used to their Antarctic life, how life at the station works, and so forth, that actually drives the plot, making it feel like this story really could have been about just about anywhere in the world and it would have the same effect. That is not to say these episodes are necessarily bad; they actually serve as perfectly solid moments of character growth. However, stories like Hinata’s history would have been better served if we had gotten more time actually getting to know what life is like at Syowa Station. By the end of the series, we’re just told that the girls have gotten used to their life there and are sad to go, but it doesn’t land quite as hard when we barely got to see how they lived there.
Final Thoughts
Sora yori mo Tooi Basho is a pretty solid all-around recommendation for any anime fan. Even if Iyashikei anime is really not your thing, there’s enough sense of adventure that you simply don’t see in these types of shows that tends to keep them from general appeal. It’s a bit light on overall plot, but if you can look past that you’ll find a really fun and heartwarming story.

6 Anime Movies Like No Game No Life: Zero [Recommendations]

Aschente! It’s been a while since anyone said that on screen. No Game No Life was a breakout anime series the source material of which has been in and out of hiatus for seemingly an eternity, almost as if the creator, Kamiya Yuu, was spirited to another world himself. In the film prequel No Game No Life: Zero, the setting is 6,000 years prior to the arrival of the gaming wunderkind sibling duo of Sora and Shiro, also known as Blank. Disboard is in pure and utter chaos, as the Old Gods and the other races wage war for dominance. A young imanity dweller named Riku encounters Schwi, a humanoid robot in the guise of a young girl, and the two begin a journey that will forever alter the fate of Disboard. The entire cast from NGNL is back for Zero, both reprising their roles and voicing new characters in this prequel. While it’s not quite the NGNL sequel everyone was clamoring for, the film was a fantastic return to the world where to game means to live. While we’re all waiting for the true return of No Game No Life, here are 6 other films that can make the wait a bit easier.

In 2024, The World is a large scale MMO which has captivated players across the planet. All save for one it seems, as middle school girl Seto Yuuki isn’t like the rest of her peers who seem to gravitate around the game. When she finally gets around to it, she discovers that it’s worth its reputation. However, her involvement reveals a hidden connection between this virtual game and the real world; a connection that bears a cost to everyone who plays. To those who remember the .hack//SIGN anime and Playstation 2 games, this movie is a stark departure from that series. While they both revolved around the online game The World, the characters, situations, and driving force are different. It takes a more modern approach to the themes found in the 2002 release of the first saga while it tries to remain true to the series. Like No Game No Life: Zero, this is a departure that tries to instill the same feeling as the original work.

The Holy Grail War has persisted for years as a victor-takes-all battle between the greatest sorcerers on the planet. Young Emiya Shirou has unwittingly stepped into this as a candidate, commanding his very own heroic spirit, the legendary Saber. Although he is completely outclassed as a mage, he is desperate to bring about change and an end to this brutal tournament. Will he survive and put a stop to this senseless bloodshed, or will he become its next victim? The Fate/Stay Night series has multiple adaptations of the visual novel’s numerous routes. Unlimited Blade Works is one that was adapted into a 24 episode 2 cours anime, and this film is the retelling of that. The film is visually striking and a fantastic feast for the eyes, animated by the charismatic ufotable studio. If you’re looking for a blend of sci-fi and fantasy action similar to what’s found in NGNL Zero, you’ve come to the right place.

The unparalleled beauty and devastatingly powerful witch Bayonetta has awakened after 500 years of slumber. However, seeing as her ancient enemies are still around and kicking, she isn’t happy and cannot remember why. Setting out on a quest to regain her lost memories, she cuts down any foe that seeks to impede her path. Based on the Bayonetta video game, Bloody Fate has just as much action and gratuitous fan service as the mainline game series. In the war of witches against lumen sages, Bayonetta reigns supreme, and her bloodlust is seductively sated on screen. For anime fans looking to see a protagonist leave a high body count, this is the right movie to watch.

Four years following the events that led Kirito Kagiya to save thousands of players trapped in the original VRMMO Sword Art Online, Ordinal Scale has him facing off against another virtual conflict. With new Augmented Reality tech called the Amusphere, players interact with the real world overlayed with that of the game. However, when players from SAO are targeted by monsters of the game and being hospitalized in the real world, Kirito takes action. He and his friends must find out what the link between this new game and SAO is and how they can avoid being its victims. Ordinal Scale is a large departure from the previous series in its setting as almost the entirety of the action takes place in the real world. Even though their bodies and skills aren’t quite as durable as their in-game avatars, the action and fights are still just as fantastic. This movie sequel takes everything good about the main series and improves upon it, allowing for fans and newcomers to enjoy.

Set two years into the future after Tokyo Ghoul Root A. For Tokyo, despair continues to lurk in the shadows… Monsters who eat humans, “Ghouls” are rampant throughout Tokyo. Living out their daily lives in the shadows, these beings who shroud their true selves in mystery, assault humanity in Tokyo with fear.
At CCG, the only agency that investigates incidents concerning Ghouls as well as resolving them, Haise Sasaki has been assigned one single order. That is to oversee four problem children known as Quinx while dealing with his days of suffering beginning.
Three Episode Impression
[ua_synopsis text="Was anyone else as excited about the Tokyo Ghoul sequel as we were? And with it, we’ve gotten a whole new cast and plot--or have we? This current season appears to be set on the side of the humans with the Quinx Squad doing the dirty work with the same flare and gruesomeness as the previous seasons. We also have Haise, our main character who is evidently missing his memories from before the last 2 years. This would all be interesting if they didn’t hint (or throw the fact in your face) that Haise is actually Kaneki Ken. So while we know that little tidbit, we actually do not know how Haise got into his situation. So at the moment, Tokyo Ghoul:Re isn’t very exciting since most of the episodes so far have just been setting the stage about Haise and the Quinx Squad overall. It would have been more fun if they kept us more in the dark and just kept this going with its slice of life feel than slap us in the face with Haise’s secret, but that ship has sailed. So far, I cannot say that Tokyo Ghoul:Re is all that exciting for what it is: A Tokyo Ghoul sequel. The only fun I’m having so far is in seeing some of my favorite old characters show up and seem to recognize Haise, which makes no sense since he doesn’t even look like Ken. Still, it’s too soon to tell so I guess I’ll keep watching to see if it gets any better."][en]Characters & Voice Actors List[/en][es]Personajes & Seiyuus[/es]

"The final unexplored region left on Earth."
"First of all, make sure that you have the best equipment when you go."
Etc.
Just what kind of place is Gunma Prefecture? What is about to happen to him…?
Three Episode Impression
[ua_synopsis text="As far as anime shorts go, Omae wa mada Gunma wo Shiranai has to be the goofiest this season. Taking us away from the usual setting of Tokyo, we head to the Gunma prefecture, which is in the countryside several hours away from Tokyo. Since we’re in the countryside, this anime really takes this chance to mock the people there and state how alien it is and how suspicious this rather small community is. It’s somewhat entertaining to watch them as they take this outsider and try to figure out what he wants or if he’s a spy. Omae wa mada Gunma wo Shiranai isn’t outright hilarious, but it’s somewhat entertaining to see what jokes the anime studio makes at the expense of the people in Gunma. Is it a recommendation worthy anime? Hardly, but it’s short and it doesn’t hurt to watch to say the absolute least."][en]Characters & Voice Actors List[/en][es]Personajes & Seiyuus[/es]

The second part of the 3rd season of Shokugeki no Soma.
The battle against the Council of Ten begins!
Three Episode Impression
[ua_synopsis text="Finally, another season of Shokugeki no Soma and boy, it has not disappointed! Starting off exactly where we left off, we get to see the so-called rebels band together to figure out how to succeed yet disrupt the order at Tootsuki. So far, with only 3 episodes out, Shokugeki no Soma has not disappointed and has managed to get me riled up. I just have to know what happens next, but the episodes are not coming out fast enough! It’s great that we get to learn more about Erina while also learning about innovation in food utilizing information on local cuisine. Learning about Hokkaido cuisine and the history of it is pretty fun, especially when it creates a rather logical way of beating a challenge unlike other shounen anime which just slap you in the face with the fact that the main character is OPed at every turn with no explanation. [Thirsty Thursday] Top 5 Fanservice Scenes in Konohana Kitan

Konohana Kitan is the story of kitsune (fox) girl Yuzu, an energetic young newcomer to the staff of Konohanatei, a traditional Japanese style hot springs resort inn bustling with visitors both human and spirit. The story follows Yuzu and the guests and staff of Konohanatei, the vast majority of the former also being cute fox girls! With good variety in looks and temperaments you're sure to fall in love with the characters of Konohana Kitan, be it the cool-headed, purple-haired workaholic Satsuki; the energetic tomboyish Natsume; the refined, feminine fashionista Ren; the lovable genki-girl Yuzu herself, or any other number of the charming staff and guests. While definitely not strictly a fanservice show, Konohana Kitan does take advantage of its onsen setting to showcase the beauty of its characters bathing and relaxing in the water. Konohana Kitan takes the “hot springs episode” trope common in anime several notches higher, with many episodes featuring multiple shots of the kitsune cuties bathing. Throw a little yuri into the mix and things get pretty steamy, geothermal springs notwithstanding. Here are our picks for the 5 best fanservice moments in Konohana Kitan!
5. “Where's an Egg?” in Episode 4

This scene demands inclusion based on novelty value alone. After a strange dream where Ren sees Yuzu running away from a bunch of giant eggs, she wakes up with a huge bulge on her stomach. This is played up for pregnancy jokes and other gags as one might expect. Since Ren sleeps next to Natsume she demands that she “takes responsibility” for what she thinks is their child (despite both of them being female). Natsume opens up Ren's kimono to see what's actually going on which reveals the bulge is actually a giant egg!? The mysterious egg is attached right below Ren's navel which we see in a revealing shot that serves as probably the strangest instance of fanservice in Konohana Kitan. Natsume tries to pull it off to no avail, shaking Ren's petite body around without success. While not the most overtly sensual scene, it's quite memorable. It's cute seeing how flustered Ren is around Natsume (whom she has a crush on) and how seriously Natsume seems to take the situation despite its obvious absurdity, plus we get a little peek at Ren's body!
4. “Enter Yuzu!” in Episode 1
Ah, beginning episodes are always a lot of fun and set up your expectations for what's ahead. Episode 1 is the start of Yuzu's adventures in Konohanatei after her adoptive mother Bikuni drops her off after she and Yuzu meet with the owner Okami and manager Kiri. The main cast is introduced and Yuzu begins learning what her new job entails but not before a little titillation! Yuzu is surprised by an “All right, clothes off!” from Kiri almost as soon as she walks into the next room from where she was meeting with Okami. Yuzu is super kawaii as we see her embarrassingly trying to cover herself up (with limited success) while Natsume and Kiri tease her as she's being washed. The playful camera movement further highlights this short but sweet look at our similarly short and sweet protagonist!
3. “Bubble Butt” in Episode 9

Oh my goddess! In episode 9, Konohanatei receives a surprise from the high-ranking goddess of water bubbles Awanami. She arrives completely unannounced, which leaves the staff a bit flustered trying to make sure their important guest is well taken care of. Ren, who we learn from Natsume has always wanted to serve an important deity, is ecstatic when Kiri chooses her to be Awanami's head attendant but is annoyed that she is paired with the often clumsy newbie Yuzu. Being that this is a bathhouse, we inevitably see the lovely goddess without the trappings shortly after she is introduced with a classic slow pan upwards and subsequent shots from both front and back showcasing her heavenly body! As somewhat of an aside, we'll also mention that she doesn't suffer tail-related bottom-blockage as our main cast does. If you were a little put off by that aspect of our foxy friends, Awanami offers some divine retribution!
2. “Tiny Cutie” in Episode 10

A misunderstanding caused by the impetuous Sakura eating all of the snacks in the attendant room leads Satsuki to be shrunk down to a tiny size after she accidentally eats a special medicine that was set aside for a guest to return to his original size. Now less than a foot tall, Satsuki is on par with living doll Okiku and is similarly given a cute, handmade dress by Ren to wear, much to Okiku's chagrin.Told that the effect will simply wear off over time, Satsuki's day is spent riding around on Yuzu's shoulder, comically giving her and others orders. After the work day is over, we see Satsuki and the rest of the staff bathing together, which has some sexy shots of the girls. The most notable being a dramatic shot of Yuzu quickly standing up from the water to declare she really wants Satsuki back to her normal self after Natsume makes a joke about things working out fine with Satsuki being tiny and a short shot of Satsuki herself bathing in a tiny wooden cup. What really takes the cake, though, is shortly after when Satsuki wakes up next to Yuzu the next morning completely nude! A glorious side shot! Apparently, during the night, the medicine man brought the antidote and Kiri gave it to her while Satsuki was sleeping. Kiri teasingly jokes about the cure being from a lover's kiss, which leads to even more precious, blushy embarrassment.
1. “Sakura Satsuki” in Episode 2
Another Satsuki scene! One of Satsuki's notable traits is her incredible work ethic; diligent to the point of overdoing it and being a workaholic. Satsuki thinks that if she works especially hard that it might let her leave Konohanatei sooner and become a shrine maiden like her sister Hiiragi who was chosen over her by her parents to take on that role. However, Kiri insists that she takes off the next day. While initially annoyed to be out of her normal schedule, Satsuki -with a little help from Yuzu- lets loose and enjoys herself for a change. This brings us to our number one favorite fanservice scene in Konohana Kitan! Sitting in the onsen under a shining full moon, we find Satsuki brooding about her situation only to be surprised by a special cherry blossom bath by Yuzu, who throws the petals when Satsuki is underwater. The floating blossoms paired with moonlight and the misty water make for an especially beautiful backdrop that enhances Satsuki's exquisite form in a series of sexy shots. Add some sake-influenced playfulness with Satsuki pulling Yuzu into the bath and this showcase of Satsuki's rarely-seen lighthearted side is a highlight of the series fan's won't soon forget!
Final Thoughts
Konohana Kitan was a whimsical iyashikei experience that ventured enough out of the usual “cute girls doing cute things” formula to be a memorable slice-of-life in the fall 2017 season. With its beautiful color palette, interesting supernatural bathhouse setting somewhat reminiscent of Spirited Away, and well-developed, intriguing characters taken from Japanese mythology, Konohana Kitan is quite enjoyable even without the fanservice; but if you're looking for some, you're in for an extra treat, especially if you're partial to fox girls or onsen! With hot springs, hot girls, and hot situations, Konohana Kitan has a lot to love! What do you think of our list? If we're missing your favorite steamy scene or you just want to talk about your favorite characters and moments feel free to leave us a comment below. We hope you enjoyed your stay at Konohanatei!

6 Manga Like Power!! [Recommendations]

Many moons ago, a manga came out that really got readers excited named Power!! (Girl Got Game). This manga featured Aizawa Kyo, a girl who picked her high school for their uniforms. Unfortunately for her, her father wants her to live out his dreams as a pro basketball player by enrolling Kyo as a boy so she can enroll in the famous boys’ basketball program. As Kyo’s mundane dream of wearing a cute uniform to school are placed below her father’s dreams, Kyo learns that she will also need to stay in the boys’ dorm with a boy she can’t stand from tryouts. Oh yeah, throw in a little gender bender, comedy, sports, and romance and you’ve got yourself a great manga that many have enjoyed! However, Power!! is a bit old so what happens when you’re done and there is nothing else to read that’s quite like it? Well, not to fret; Honey’s Anime has brought you 6 manga like Power!! to help fill the void it left behind. Similar Manga to Power!!

Mizuki is a Japanese-American girl famous for her talent in track-and-field who has recently transferred to an all boys’ high school to go to the same school as her high jumping idol, Sano Izumi. To accomplish this, however, Mizuki has disguised herself as a boy and must stay in the dorm! This decision is not without luck as Mizuki finds herself rooming with Izumi at the dorm. Mizuki is going to have to hide her true identity everywhere, but she may have quite a few people questioning their own sexual orientation with her little stunt. When it comes to any sports related gender bending shoujo manga, you know you have to think of Hana Kimi, a manga so popular that it has been adapted into a Japanese drama, a Japanese remake of the drama, a Taiwanese drama with another one on the way, and a Korean drama, similar to the way Hana Yori Dango was. Like Kyo, Mizuki finds herself in a situation where she must hide her identity as a girl at school. Kyo is forced into it while Mizuki does it to get closer to her idol, and ends up having a rather fun and chaotic school life because of it. There’s a lot of laughs and hijinks in this all boys school, but that’s what makes Power!! so much fun!
2. Uwasa no Midori-kun!!

Yamate Midori is a teenage girl who lives on an island. One day, a boy named Hino Tsukasa comes to holiday on Midori’s island. This fateful encounter leads Tsukasa to teach Midori how to play soccer, but it also results in a romance that Midori can never forget. Unfortunately, when they meet again, Tsukasa breaks Midori’s heart so she decides she wants revenge and she’s going to do it by enrolling in an all boys’ school to play on their soccer team. Midori and Kyo both start off hating these boys that they come across at the beginning of their manga, and that’s the driving point for part of the plot in their own way. Like Kyo, Midori strives to outdo Tsukasa who seems to reign supreme in the world of soccer. In order to do that, Midori joins an all boys school dressed as a boy to play soccer against Tsukasa. Uwasa no Midori-kun is cute and has a few funny moments, but the focus is more on romance than the sport itself. If you love love triangles, a bit of drama, and a splash of soccer, come check out Uwasa no Midori-kun!
3. Tenshi Ja Nai!! (I’m No Angel!)

Takabayashi Hikaru wishes to be a wallflower thanks to her childhood bullies following some brief commercial fame she experienced as a child. As such, Hikaru enrolled in an all girls school, but things may become complicated when she finds out that her new dorm mate is the popular idol, Kido Izumi. Not only is Izumi a popular female idol in school and on TV, but as it turns out, Izumi is only masquerading as a girl, and Hikaru going to be forced to be the keeper of his secrets! While in Tenshi Ja Naii!! the female lead is not the one crossdressing, Izumi does it for his own reasons the same way Kyo does. However, Hikaru and Kyo may have a lot more in common than Izumi would. Still, the dynamic between Izumi and Hikaru is rather comedic for the most part and you know you will just fall in love with this unusual pairing, especially since Hikaru only ever dreams of being a wallflower as you will see in the manga. Hikaru has her own past which has her wanting to be a wallflower, but she and Kyo go through this similar experience of self discovery in a high school experience they never thought they’d have to go through.

Crime rates have escalated in Tokyo making life really touch. Crimes against women are at an all time high right below murder. In order to protect their daughter, Tsukasa’s parents forced Tsukasa to masquerade as a male. Much like her parents, Tsukasa dreams of being a police officer in order to fight against the crimes caused by the yakuza. One day, though, Tsukasa finds herself orphaned along with her 3 brothers. In order to take care of her family and deal with her family’s debt, Tsukasa takes on the job of bodyguard for her classmate and infamous yakuza leader Ryuji. While Tokyo Crazy Paradise is a bit different from Power!! with Tsukasa being raised as a boy for her own safety, we do have a similar premise with both characters having to crossdress for their own reasons. The dynamic between Tsukasa and Ryuji are fun and while there may be a threat in this new crime ridden Tokyo, the manga does have a good amount of comedy and enjoyable moments that makes it such a great read, even if it is older than the mangaka’s Skip Beat!
5. Boku ni Natta Watashi (Secret☆Girl)

[en][information_general item1 = "Authors" content1="Shimaki Ako" item2="Genres" content2="Drama, Romance, School, Shoujo, Gender Bender" item3 = "Volumes" content3="5" item4="Published" content4="2004 - 2006" ][/en]

Momoko’s life was supposed to normal and blissful, but she’s found herself in a ridiculous and miserable situation. She’s been tossed out of her own home to attend an all boys’ school where she has to live with an absolutely awful roommate and dress as a boy in clothing that are just abhorred. The worst part of her teenage life is that all of these good looking guys are around Momoko, but there’s not a shot in Hell that she’ll get to experience the high school romance of her dreams. Boku ni Natta Watashi is a fun manga about a girl who is forced into a situation where she must crossdress and attend an all boys’ school as a boy. The plot is silly and as such, you can expect the actual story itself to be rather funny as well. While Momoko does not play sports, she’s just looking to get through high school without any problems. The plot is mostly centered on Momoko, but it’s really fun just watching a girly girl like Momoko have to adapt to an all boys setting whether she likes it or not.
6. Nononono

[en][information_general item1 = "Authors" content1="Okamoto Lynn" item2="Genres" content2="Drama, Romance, Ecchi, Sports, Psychological, Seinen, Gender Bender" item3 = "Volumes" content3="13" item4="Published" content4="2007 - 2010" ][/en]

Nonomiya Yuuta has all the skills to aim for the Olympic Gold as a ski jumper, but there’s a bit of a problem. Yuuta is actually Nono, Yuuta’s twin sister, who cannot compete in the women’s division as it is not an Olympic category. In order to achieve her dreams, Nono will have to disguise as her twin brother. Now, let’s hope that no one else finds out. Like Power!!, Nononono features a female protagonist who must crossdress in order to compete in a sport. Nononono has a greater deal of drama to it, and some rather serious portions, but that’s what makes this manga such a great read. Nono does get caught at one point, but watch as she does all she can in order to achieve her dreams in the Olympics, even when everything is against her and her secret can jeopardize everything! The scale is wide and the risks are large, but that’s just what Nono will have to deal with in order to fight for her dreams.

Final Thoughts

6 Manga Like Koizora [Recommendations]

There are few manga that really get to us emotionally like Koizora. Based on a cell phone novel by Mika, Koizora was a huge cultural phenomenon in Japan. As reported by Mika, Koizora is based on her life, or parts of it anyway. Koizora was so popular as a cell phone novel that it was adapted into a manga, a Japanese drama, and a movie, all of which were popular in their own right. With a story with as much romance, pain, and drama as Koizora, it’s hard not to be left with a hole in your heart once you’ve finished the series. The story has a way of really pulling you in and making you cry out for the characters. If you are like us and were left empty and sad following the end of Koizora and one of its adaptations, then we’ve got a list for you. Today, we are looking at 6 manga like Koizora that will help fill that void in your heart!

Deep Love: Ayu no Monogatari is the story of Ayu, a teenage girl who has no belief in the future nor the possibility of happiness. Without knowing much meaning in life, Ayu sells her body and becomes involved in drugs. One day, an older lady comes across Ayu and the two form an unlikely friendship that might just help Ayu believe in happiness. One manga that is so similar to Koizora has to be Deep Love: Ayu no Monogatari as it follows a teenage girl who seems to find happiness. Unfortunately, the happiness is short lived as life becomes more and more complicated. Just like Koizora, Deep Love is based on a popular cell phone novel series that was adapted into a manga as well as two Japanese dramas and a movie. If you are prepared for a rather dramatic and tragic ride just like Koizora, Deep Love: Ayu no Monogatari is the manga for you.
2. Boku wa Hatsukoi wo Kimi ni Sasagu (I Give My First Love To You)

Takuma and Mayu are childhood friends following Takuma’s hospitalization as a child. Mayu’s father is the doctor in charge of Takuma’s case. As such, the two became close as they grew up and fell in love. However, their love story is complicated by the fact that Takuma will not be able to fulfill his promise to Mayu. Boku wa Hatsukoi wo Kimi ni Sasagu follows a rather similar romantic trajectory as Koizora where the two characters are deeply in love, but that romance is complicated by the health problems that Hiro and Takuma face. However, Boku wa Hatsukoi wo Kimi ni Sasagu has a more dramatic story as Takuma strives to make light of his heart problems while Mayu is fully aware of the complications in his health. As the two struggle to find and fulfill their hopes for love despite the health problems that threaten Takuma’s life, things like learning to move on and deal with other romantic interests get in the way.
3. Bitter Virgin

Suwa Daisuke is a popular boy at school who dislikes the new girl, Aikawa Hinako for how she initially treated him. One day, Daisuke accidentally overhears Hinako’s confess the sins of the past at a church. Now, Daisuke wants to protect Hinako and her secrets, even if she doesn’t know why. Koizora is a story featuring many tragic events, and one of the hardest ones to deal with had to be Mika’s rape, a result of Hiro’s crazy ex-girlfriend’s possessiveness. However, as the manga goes on, we see Mika try to make the best despite the things that occur in her life. This same plot point is explored in Bitter Virgin with Hinako being the rather poor and innocent victim of a rapist, aka her stepfather, but despite the years of sexual and physical abuse that she experienced, Hinako still wishes to move onward with her life and find happiness, something that Daisuke wishes to help her with whether she knows it or not. If you want a story based on a similar tragic event but with a more hopeful turn than Koizora’s and a romance that may bring relief to you, Bitter Virgin is the perfect manga to read as it touches on so many points so well that you won’t have any regrets reading it.

Wakamiya Hikaru has dreamed of having a boyfriend who is like prince charming thanks to the countless shoujo manga she can be seen reading. Unfortunately for her, Hikaru’s first kiss is stolen by a handsome yet devilish boy that she deems the “Perverted Prince.” Later, Hikaru comes across a boy who looks just like the Perverted Prince but with different colored eyes and a more princely demeanor. Who is he? Ikeyamada Go’s Moe Kare!! Is a rather light hearted manga compared to many of the manga on this list, but it can still hold its own fairly well. With the innocent premise of a girl who just wants to find love, the same way Mika did in Koizora, Moe Kare!! slowly descends into drama as some unexpected hitches occur in Hikaru’s love life, making it impossible for her to be with the one she loves. However, unlike Koizora, Hikaru is forced to learn to live without the love of her life and find it anew elsewhere. For a happier ending with fewer moments of crying yet plenty of drama, come read Moe Kare!!
5. Orange

[en][information_general item1 = "Authors" content1="Takano Ichigo" item2="Genres" content2="Drama, Romance, School, Shoujo, Sci-Fi" item3 = "Volumes" content3="6" item4="Published" content4="March 2012 - January 2017" ][/en]

Takamiya Naho is a rather shy and soft spoken girl, but a letter from 10 years in the future is going to force her to change. The letter is very detailed and tells her of the events that will occur throughout the day. While Naho thinks it is a prank, everything unfolds as described. The letter goes on to tell Naho about her future regrets, all of which seem to be about the transfer student, Kakeru. Future Naho explains that unless Naho does something to change the course of the future, Kakeru will no longer be able to be with her friends in the future. If you watched the anime, don’t be deterred. The manga for Orange is multitudes better than its anime counterpart which could not capture its greatness in animated form. Orange is a rather dramatic story of trying to find oneself and help others despite your own inadequacies, which we all know are strong as teenagers. Naho is fully aware of the consequences of her actions, but she continually fights against her own nature and her desires for a better future. Yet just because she’s going through many of these thoughts internally, it doesn’t mean life won’t move forward. Like Koizora, tragedy feels like it’s at every corner with many moments of frustration and regret, but that’s what makes Orange so worthwhile to read.

6 Manga Like Nodame Cantabile [Recommendations]

Born from Tomoko Ninomiya's wise pen in 2001, Nodame Cantabile is a josei manga revolving around Shinichi Chiaki and Megumi Noda. Chiaki is a first-class musician, coming from a distinguished family, whose dream is to play in Europe. Even though he would love to spread his wings, Chiaki is afraid of flying due to a childhood trauma. On the other side, there's Megumi Noda, Chiaki's polar opposite: Noda is unkempt, slobby, and less than feminine, but she has an innate talent at playing piano. Yet, her dream is to become a teacher! On Chiaki's fourth year of university, these two peculiar persons meet, and the magic happens. Nodame will become Chiaki's strength, pushing him to face the fears he didn't imagine he could overcome; Chiaki will become Nodame's direction in life, trying to make her focus on the God-given talent she wields. Nodame Cantabile is a non-conventional josei manga, full of humor and amazing characters. It gained so much popularity that it had an anime adaption in 2007, which covers the entire series. 1. Ou-sama no Shichiya (The King's Pawnshop)

Let's start this list with Ou-sama no Shichiya! This shoujo manga revolves around Amy, a very naive girl who keeps choosing the wrong guys. Every single time she fell in love with a boy, he turned out to be a tricky guy who just wanted to play her. After being turned into a slave by her first crush, being pushed down by another guy and being betrayed by her former boyfriend, Amy is sick of misjudging people! Shuu runs a pawnshop, and Amy works for him. Will their relationship turn to something deeper, or is Amy miscalculating something again? Even though the premises obviously show that these two series are different, Nodame Cantabile and Ou-sama no Shichiya share some important similarities. Their characters are very much alike, as both Nodame and Amy seem to be almost stupid, but then they show their skills, proving the contrary. Nodame and Amy are treated harshly by their counterparts, Chiaki and Shuu, who are very cold. Both the girls fall in love first, while their counterparts need a little push. All in all, though, these two series share the exact same good vibes, and comedy. If you enjoyed one, you'll enjoy the other, as well!
2. Subaru (Dance! Subaru)

[en][information_general item1 = "Authors" content1="Soda, Masahito" item2="Genres" content2="Drama, Sports, Psychological, Seinen" item3 = "Volumes" content3="11" item4="Published" content4="December 1999 – November 2002" ][/en]

Subaru Miyamoto is a five-year-old child with a twin, Kazuma. Her brother, though, is dying and so Subaru has no longer time to play with her friends, nor to dream. Every single day she visits him, as he is gradually forgetting everything, even his twin sister Subaru. She dances for him, talks with him, and tries to make it so that he won't forget her. When a friend notices how much Subaru is talented, she encourages her to join ballet classes. That's how Subaru falls in love with dance, and how her life changes for the best! Even though these two stories may look different, they both share the same feeling. Both the heroines, Nodame and Subaru, are prodigies in their field. Nodame is a skilled pianist, while Subaru a skilled dancer. They both struggle to decide if that's the path they should follow, or not. If Subaru lacks the romantic part as a central theme, it still wields the same atmosphere as Nodame Cantabile. Both are unique in their own way, so you should pick Subaru up if you liked Nodame Cantabile!
3. Kimi wa Pet (Tramps Like Us)

[en][information_general item1 = "Authors" content1="Ogawa, Yayoi" item2="Genres" content2="Comedy, Drama, Romance, Josei" item3 = "Volumes" content3="14" item4="Published" content4="May 2000 – October 2005" ][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Mangaka" content1="___content1___" item2="Género" content2="___content2___" item3 = "Volúmenes" content3="___content3___" item4="Publicado" content4="___content4___" post_id="" ][/es]
Sumire Iwaya is a 27-year-old woman who works as a reporter. She looks like a very put-together person and her colleagues look up to her. Her situation suddenly changes during a holiday party: after drinking too much, she shows her true colors by punching her boss. She ends up demoted to life style affairs in the newspaper, and if things could go worse, her boyfriend leaves her. Tired and sick of feeling down, she wants to shake her life, so she picks up a boy on the street and decides to take him home. What will become of Sumire's impetuous decision? Both Nodame Cantabile and Kimi wa Pet are non-conventional josei manga full of comedy. Even if the themes are different, these two manga are very similar, as in both we find prodigies – Nodame, who is a pianist, and Takeshi, who is a dancer – who develop a sort of pet-like relationship with their counterparts. Sumire and Chiaki, too, share some similarities, as they both are cool, and seemingly unfazed, while actually struggling with their own demons. These manga are both romantic comedies which can make you laugh and think at times.

4. Inubaka (Inubaka: Crazy for Dogs)

[en][information_general item1 = "Authors" content1="Sakuragi, Yukiya" item2="Genres" content2="Comedy, Slice of life, Seinen" item3 = "Volumes" content3="22" item4="Published" content4="September 2004 – April 2010" ][/en]

Suguri Miyauchi is a 18-year-old girl who, after living in the countryside, wishes to move to Tokyo in order to begin a brand-new life. Her new adventure, though, doesn't begin in the best way, as she is kidnapped and Lupin, her mutt dog, ends up mating a purebred dog while its owner – Teppei – is not looking. Suguri, in order to make up for Lupin's doing, accepts to work in the pet store run by Teppei, showing love for everything related to the canine world. Her new adventure finally begins! Although we realize that by the premises Nodame Cantabile and Inubaka don't seem to share much, they actually do. If we put aside the world of music for Nodame Cantabile, and the canine world for Inubaka, what remains are a range of characters and events which are very much alike. In both there's a chance meeting between a dimwitted girl, and a talented guy, but then the dimwitted girl shows to be actually very skilled and catches the male character's attention. Both these couples' romance develops step by step, in the exact same way. So, these two stories share similar characters, and events, giving off the same good vibes!
5. Piano no Mori (Forest of the Piano)

[en][information_general item1 = "Authors" content1="Isshiki, Makoto" item2="Genres" content2="Drama, Music, Seinen" item3 = "Volumes" content3="22" item4="Published" content4="August 1998 – November 2015" ][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Mangaka" content1="___content1___" item2="Género" content2="___content2___" item3 = "Volúmenes" content3="___content3___" item4="Publicado" content4="___content4___" post_id="" ][/es]
Piano no Mori revolves around two very different boys. Kai Ichinose looks like a problem child, as he is the son of a prostitute and lives in a run-down neighborhood which is situated near the forest. Here, he has been playing the abandoned piano since he was very young. Shuuei Amamiya, on the other hand, comes from a prestigious family of pianists. Kai and Shuuei's love for piano will make them cross paths, and eventually change their lives. Both Nodame Cantabile and Piano no Mori are humorous stories about music, where the main characters are on the polar opposites: there's the odd one – Nodame and Kai – and the perfectionists – Chiaki and Shuuei. While Piano no Mori lacks the romantic trait altogether, both these stories share the main concept of characters who want to succeed in music and raise their talents to the highest level. What's more, both share witty dialogues, and the storytelling goes by very smoothly. As Nodame Cantabile is a josei, and Piano no Mori a seinen, both depict stories which are very realistic and somewhat relatable. It's not a stretch to say that you'll love Piano no Mori, if you liked Nodame Cantabile!
6. Cat Street

[en][information_general item1 = "Authors" content1="Kamio, Yoko" item2="Genres" content2="Drama, Romance, School life, Shoujo" item3 = "Volumes" content3="8" item4="Published" content4="July 2004 – September 2007" ][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Mangaka" content1="___content1___" item2="Género" content2="___content2___" item3 = "Volúmenes" content3="___content3___" item4="Publicado" content4="___content4___" post_id="" ][/es]
Cat Street revolves around Keito Aoyama, who was a child actress. Keito had to give her dream up due to an accident, and that event led her to gradually withdraw from society, as well. Years go by, and now 16-year-old Keito is holed up in her room, doing nothing aside from dragging her life on, day after day. Her situation begins to change when someone takes her to El Liston, a high school for reject kids like her, and Keito will start to fight her way up to the top once again! Although Nodame Cantabile is a comedy, and Cat Street wields tragic elements, these two stories are similar. They both explore the idea of being successful, and what impact and importance it wields in everyone's life. Both our protagonists, Nodame and Keito, need to struggle with themselves, in order to figure out if they want to follow the path of their talents, or if they should give up and live differently. All in all, these two stories give off the same good vibes, so you should give Cat Street a try!

Final Thoughts
And with Cat Street our list came to an end! We really hope you can find it useful, somehow. We tried to mention all those manga sharing with Nodame Cantabile a non-conventional heroine, or the main theme of prodigies struggling with their talent, and so on. Basically, we made sure you'll feel the same good vibes you felt while reading Nodame Cantabile, which brought you all laugh without being trivial, and which gave you food for thought, as well. Please let us know what you think in the comments below and see you next time!

Who it Caters to

While much of the game industry continues to churn out titles that are complex in terms of gameplay mechanics and visual aesthetic, one genre still maintains its simplicity while creating new elements to bring everything to life. We’re talking about the platforming genre, one that has been around as long as the industry had been conceived many decades ago, and still continues to thrive in every possible way. Whether it’s Nintendo’s iconic Mario jumping and stomping on goombas, or Yooka and Laylee fending off cartoon styled enemies in Yooka Laylee, the platforming world continues to breath new life in what is arguably one of the oldest genres out there. This brings us to Light Fall, a gloriously designed and well put together title by the team at Bishop Games, which takes platforming adventure to a whole new level with intricate level designs and stimulating gameplay. Anyone who loves a challenging platforming experience will certainly find Light Fall to be an adventure worth embarking on. With its simple yet radiant visuals that take some inspiration from titles like Ori and the Blind Forest, paired with an enormous amount of depth to the gameplay mechanics, Light Fall is a title that caters to those who seek out something fresh and provocative.
What to Expect

When playing Light Fall for the first time, a few things will happen; for one you’ll be blown away by just how gorgeous the game looks on screen and second, the ease of use in terms of controls as you hop from platform to platform. It’s not just any ordinary platformer, however, as you’re the one who must place the platforms on screen, so that your character can traverse the Forgotten World of Numbra with no problems and survive the many perils that lie ahead. Light Fall is also an indie title and so, like many indie titles, it steps out of the comfort zone that many AAA titles tend to often find it hard to break out of. From its fluid animations to the amount of freedom you have while controlling the Shadow Core, Light Fall has this feeling of uniqueness that you can only find through playing the game. No other title on the market right now comes close to replicating the style and finesse that Light Fall portrays, which is great because you know that you’re getting your money’s worth. Be ready for a vast world that’s immersive and mysterious, captivating and riveting, while providing you with an experience unlike any other. If you enjoy speedrunning then there’s also a mode which you can dive straight into and create your own little competitive environment with friends, or perhaps a community. Whatever your prerogative, Light Fall has it there for you so be sure to have your radar set on this one.

Gameplay

As mentioned earlier in the article, Light Fall is an action platformer which takes place on a 2D plane, and throws you into a world that’s filled with wonder. You rely on your Shadow Core, a device that creates a small little platform in front of you so that obstacles can easily be avoided. While the overall premise of the game is quite simple, mastering the art of placement is what makes the game a stimulating ordeal. The first few levels act as somewhat of a guide to ensure that you understand how the mechanics work, and to get a better feel of how to make the best use of the Shadow Core. As you progress further into the game, however, the hardcore side of the game starts to reveal itself as now, obstacles become a little more arduous than the last, and making sure to properly space your Shadow Core is pivotal.

You can dash to speed things up as you hop from platform to platform, but ultimately, it all comes down to you to make sure the Shadow Core isn’t overused. What we mean by that is the Shadow Core comes with limitations and so, mashing out random Shadow Cores without properly executing a formula to reach the next section will create a very tempestuous scenario. When the Shadow Core has been used to the max, it will light up to indicate that you’ve gone a little too far, which means that you won’t be able to create another platform until the other is removed. It’s like erasing a platform and then creating a new one every time, making the journey towards the next section very time consuming. You’re mentally pushed to the limits at times because dying a lot starts to become more common, and so therefore you need to develop patience along with critical thinking in order to successfully move forward.

Fortunately, there’s no time limit to the game and so, you can retry the level as many times as you need in order to figure out the right alignment of each platform, and pass through without much worry. Each level you play through tells its own story as you’re the one creating how everything unfolds each time a platform is placed on screen. It doesn’t feel linear in that regard since it encourages you to really think outside of ordinary means to ensure you don’t end up falling to your death countless times. For that reason, Light Fall enlightens you and compels you to go beyond what’s expected to really bring out the best of what the game is offering. It’s not just about fending off foes and racing your way through each stage for bragging rights, but rather it feels a lot like building something new every time which only further dictates how the rest of your gameplay experience will pan out. You’re in the driver’s seat every time and aren’t relying solely on a pre-designed platform template, which is what most other platformer titles tend to depend on. That obviously isn’t a bad thing, of course, when you consider successful titles like the ones we exemplified earlier, but it’s being able to take the next step to create something provocative for the mind that truly makes a game worth playing.

Honey's Gameplay Consensus:

Light Fall is nothing short of a spectacular platforming experience. It takes all of the great aspects of the genre and glues it together with its own unique form of gameplay, to create a very cohesive and memorable experience from start to finish. It’s not an incredibly long game in that there’s a massive amount of levels to run though, but it’s lengthy in the sense that every level provides a new obstacle that will test your mind. Taking the strategic approach is totally part of this experience and is what allows you to truly feel that sense of ultimate freedom. You often become your own worst enemy while playing because it’s so easy to really get into your own head, which plays a bunch of tricks on you. However when you’re finally able to zone in and overcome your anxieties or fear of failure, Light Fall truly takes you on a beautiful adventure that you’ll simply want to explore for hours on end.
Honey's Pros:
- Really vibrant colors and overall stellar visuals.
- Challenging levels and overall cool design.
- Soothing background music to keep you immersed while playing.
Honey's Cons:
- Would’ve loved some more online features.
Honey's Final Verdict:
Light Fall is definitely one of favorite indie titles of this year and for very good reason. We had the opportunity to test the game out in its preview build, which blew us away and so, our expectations remained quite high while going into the full review version. Nothing much had changed other than some cosmetic UI makeovers and bug fixes which was a splendid sign. In the end, Light Fall totally had us by the edge of our seats constantly trying to survive the many challenges that were thrown our way. Dealing with foes felt satisfying while the constant thrill of creating our own escape options felt rewarding all the way to the very end. We hope that you found this review to be insightful and gave you enough information to help you better decide whether the purchase is worthy or not.
