Extra and Unlimited seem innocuous, setting up your expectations with a streamlined reading. However, Alternative creates a new relationship, a metaphorical and literal connection to its past. Alternative moves wary of its ghosts. As it progresses, it looks behind its shoulder, revealing a road paved towards its future. By way of self-reference, Alternative subverts your understanding of the trilogy, creating depth where it was absent before. Just as Alternative borrows from its previous stories, Alternative gives back, boldly elevating Extra and Unlimited as criticisms of its protagonist/genre while giving introspection, a look into ourselves. In the previous article, we discussed Muv-Luv’s historical connections. For this article, we will discuss how knowledge of Alternative reveals the intentions of its preceding stories. By contextualizing Extra and Unlimited, we can approach the topic of our next article, the cyclical nature of Alternative.

The Value of Intertextuality

Muv-Luv layers its meaning through intertextuality: the relationship between texts. In mediums other than literature, the “text” refers to the contents of the story. In this section, we’ll discuss the two types of intertextuality: direct and indirect. Direct intertextuality is when a piece of media makes an explicit reference to another. One example is in the movie Deadpool 2. In the movie, its titular character re-enacts a scene using two dolls: a doll of Deadpool dressed as an iconic sheriff and a doll of Cable, the presumed antagonist of the movie. Deadpool moves the sheriff doll and says, “Reach for the sky!” a direct quotation of Woody from Toy Story 2. Indirect intertextuality assumes that creators will be inspired or influenced by their contact with other media. This results in creators invoking a history of other works, even if they are not explicit. For example, imagine a post-apocalyptic story that takes place in a desert with scavenging outlaws. If you thought of Fist of the North Star (or Mad Max), there is a good reason. The mangaka of Fist of the North Star, Tetsuo Hara, stated that one of his inspirations was the movie Mad Max 2. By using references, intertextuality helps prime an audience with ideas. By borrowing from these ideas, creators can make use of them to help convey their story.

The Importance of Extra: Giving Context and Allowing Critique

Before we examine Alternative, I will have to contextualize Extra. During a player’s first playthrough, Extra’s story will seem like a dime-a-dozen. However, once players experience Unlimited and Alternative, they will see how the authors use intertextuality to critique eroge conventions. As discussed in the first article, Takeru isn’t the focus of Extra’s story. Although the story centers around Takeru, much of the story focuses on the heroines. Its development follows conventional story beats: Takeru’s childhood promise (marriage), the thematic emphasis on choice (responding to a heroine’s feelings), and the romantic response, a sign of true love: kissing under a tree. Takeru is a reactive character, driven by the plot. He receives the attention and adoration of the cast, but he hasn’t earned it. His “specialness” is assigned to him, not a quality he has made or earned. To address this, these types of stories need to justify their protagonist. They need to make their characters change from reactive to proactive, prove commitment through action. By doing so, love feels earned, not given. Takeru has not yet earned love. This is one of the major critiques that is addressed and developed in the trilogy. Takeru’s mirrors his eroge predecessors in one way; his life is filled with conveniences. His lack of parental figures allows him certain freedoms. His status as the main character means the story and cast revolve around him. “His choices” are made for him—we, as players, make his choices: from the girl he adores to the progression of his words. All done with a simple click. That’s not to say Takeru doesn’t have some autonomy, but he acts within the path we set for him. His actions are either framed by us or subverted by his stereotypical role. During the Lacrosse match, he convinces the heroines to put aside their differences. He does so with an arduous “speech,” criticizing them for their shortcomings. The problem: he speaks down to them, not with them. A speech is not a discussion, and a speech is not a dialogue. It is aimed towards an audience; it’s one direction. His speech is a lecture, an action that assumes insight and moral clarity. Takeru is no Yuuhi. He doesn’t understand his own situation much less another’s. He is naive, young, and flawed, but Extra’s story doesn’t explicitly criticize this. We’re meant to. Another problem arises when you dive deeper. One of the most important decisions can be stripped away from Takeru—his own decision to love Sumika or Meiya. As love rivals, their routes share the same path, their stories intertwined. Normally, players will accumulate points favoring one heroine over the other, and at the end, Takeru decides to pursue either Sumika or Meiya. However, if you perfectly balance Sumika and Meiya’s affection throughout their route, Takeru isn’t given a decision at the end.

You are. By “gaming” the system, you can ignore the core message of romance. You can ignore Yuuko and Marimo’s lecture about the importance of choice and sincerely responding to a character’s feelings. You can tarnish the entire idea of true love by saving and reloading choices, vying for every character’s affection—even though their true love is one person. You can experience these romance stories never knowing true love, just some fantasy of it. Saving and reloading is normal and expected. It’s logical to want to experience every character’s story, and receive the full experience. It’s economical, the most “bang for your buck.” But most importantly, it’s conventional. These types of stories are designed this way. These games won’t stop you from using its mechanics. However, by bringing this to our attention, we start to see hypocrisy. “Save in the name of True Love” feels like a lie.

The Importance of Unlimited: Call to Duty and Character Development

Thematically, Unlimited is a story about transitions. It is the midway point between Extra’s comforting fantasy and Alternative’s cold reality. It is the beginning of Takeru’s development and the restriction of the player choices. It is the start of Takeru’s world view being challenged. At the start of Unlimited, we’re thrust into a shocking scene. The formerly vibrant town is destroyed. By pure chance, Takeru’s house is left standing, but Sumika’s house is ruined, destroyed by a mech that crashed into it. Instead of focusing on Sumika’s safety, Takeru is overjoyed by seeing a mech. His fantasy of being a pilot stoked by its existence. At this point, Takeru still believes Unlimited is a dream, and while it’s understandable his concern for others is held back by this belief, his escapist mentality—the same mindset he learned in Extra—continues into a dangerous new setting. This is Unlimited, the first time we really see Takeru’s personality. His personality is childish and selfish, a fact that separates him from other cadets. For this story, he’s now the focus. Whereas the heroines have adjusted to war, their past consumed by conflict, Takeru barely recognizes it. Whereas Extra wants to emphasize choice, Unlimited wants to start taking it away. In a standard Hero’s Journey, a common structure for a story, the hero begins by being reactive to the events around him. It is when events can no longer be ignored—when the “call to action” is so loud—that the hero must answer its beckoning. Answering this call is what transforms a character from being pushed by the story to one who moves it. During Unlimited, Takeru is not yet ready. His “specialness” is questioned; his failure is at every turn. It is only when he becomes a pilot that his “specialness” allows him to lead others, his chance given to him on a platter. However, even with this “Extra convenience,” he fails to summon the courage. He cannot fight the BETA as he is. Analyzing Extra is limited, but when given a frame of reference, its meaning expands. Unlimited provides that reference, forcing Takeru to expose his identity by withholding choice. That’s not to say choice doesn’t exist within Unlimited—you, the player, make choices—but that’s the tragedy. For Takeru to change from reactive to proactive, for him to grow as a character, he can’t have you. He must be forced to make his decisions.

Final Thoughts

With both stories contextualized, the next article will focus on Alternative and its cyclical nature. By understanding history, context, and intertextuality, subject of this and the previous articles, I hope to reveal how Muv-Luv became the classic it is today.

There is a world where magic is everything. Asta and Yuno were raised by the church, and once they turned 15, they participated in a coming of age ceremony where they were awarded grimores that will raise their innate magic power. There, it is not powerless Asta who is bequeathed a grimore, but rather Yuno, who is given the Four-leaf Clover grimore. However, Asta, in order to prove his own power, and honor the oath that he made with his childhood friend Yuno, sets out with him in order for them to become the Magic Emperor!

Three Episode Impression

[ua_synopsis text="Two boys raised by the church. Yuno is adept and magic and is surely set to raise in the ranks of the magic kingdom. Asta on the other hand… well… bless his little heart. Asta is unable to use magic, so he compensates by training vigorously each day. One day they go to a magical ceremony to receive grimores, or sources of magical power. Yuno receives an extremely powerful four-leaf clover grimore much to the shock of those around him who were mocking him up until he received it. Asta gets nothing. Because again, he has no magical powers. When Yuno is attacked though, Asta somehow summons a new grimore to himself. This one has a five-leaf clover on it. Inside it resides a demon that has the power to cancel out magic from other grimores. Now, these two polar opposites set out to become the new Magic Emperor. Basically, this is the new Naruto. Shuueisha has already said that they want to do this, and we already got a filler episode in episode 3! The story is good, it gives off Ao no Exorcist vibes, and overall, everyone is interesting. Except…. For Asta’s seiyuu. This is the debut for Gakuto Kajiwara, his seiyuu, and wow… it’s bad. In fact, it is so bad and so painful to listen to him, that dropping the series is something that frequently flashes before our minds every episode. Which is terrible because the anime itself is great! The characters are good, the magic looks to be cool, no one is really detestable, and above all else, you find yourself cheering for Asta to succeed. But that voice needs to be fixed or replaced stat. Either way though, this shounen anime has promise and we hope that it only gets better from here on out!"]

There’s not enough cheese in the world to put a stop to these incessant rats.

  • Release Date: May 14, 2019
A Plague Tale: Innocence | Sean Bean - The Little Boy Lost

Who it Caters to

Looking back at human history and examining the events that took place prior to our existence, it gives us great joy to know that we didn’t have to go through a lot of problems our ancestors did. One of the more sinister, and perhaps more notable disasters in human history, came in the form of the Black Death, a catastrophic pandemic that nearly wiped out the entire nation of Eurasia back in the XIV century. Close to 200 million people succumbed to this malevolent outbreak and left an incredibly dark scar on human existence, even to this day. This lead us to A Plague Tale: Innocence, an uncanny story that brings to mind the events that took place during that era and gives us a grim reminder of just how horrific things can get if you’re not prepared. The rats that you encounter in the game are a symbolic reference to that of the Black Death, as their incessant hissing and unwavering thirst for blood send nothing but shivers down your spine, with each step you take leading to more uncertainty that lies ahead. A Plague Tale: Innocence is a divine amalgamation of a powerful story about two siblings who must use their wits to survive, and gripping gameplay that puts you on the edge of your seat with every deadly encounter.

What to Expect

At first glance, A Plague Tale: Innocence comes off as a genuine reimagining of the grim events that took place during the mid 1300’s, but beneath all of the terror lies a deep emotional core that really speaks volumes when you experience it for yourself. There are plenty of powerful moral reminders scattered all throughout the game, with one example being the relationship between siblings and how love can truly get you through anything. For the majority of the game, you’re in control of Amicia and Hugo de Rune, two siblings with contrasting personalities that put their differences aside in order to depart themselves from a hellish world that’s bleeding with torment, pestilence, and war. With only a slingshot in hand and her brother by her side, Amicia must use all of her might to protect Hugo at all costs. A Plague Tale: Innocence is a bone-chilling adventure through a dark and tumultuous world, where every decision you make can be the deciding factor in whether you live or die by the rats. No amount of cheese will aid you in this one, so put on your thinking cap and trudge forward into the darkness.
[ad_top2 class="mt40 mb40"]

Story

Taking place during the Hundred Years’ War of the Middle Ages, two siblings who once lived a noble life free of disaster are thrown viciously into a world full of terror and destruction. The Black Death has overthrown the country, with much of the population of France succumbing to the pandemic by death or consumed by the unrelenting army of rats. What makes it worse is that the Inquisition, led by a powerful figure, is deployed in order to get their dirty hands on and wipe out the last of the de Rune ancestry. With their lives at stake, both by the Inquisition and the fearsome outbreak, Amicia and Hugo must navigate their way through a cesspool of bloodthirsty rats while outsmarting the knights that await them ahead.

Visuals

Focus Home Interactive is no stranger to delivering high quality titles, with A Plague Tale: Innocence being no exception. The game’s overall presentation is enough to make your jaw drop in awe, with every facial animation depicting every type of emotion you can think of. Whether it’s the sudden shock of Amicia’s face when she first encounters the dark pool of rats that erupted from beneath the ground, or the more touching moments where Hugo reminds us that life can still be beautiful amidst all the terror, everything is conveyed beautifully. You’re never short changed on anything in the game, and those very contrasting emotional moments really help to exemplify just how much attention to detail was put into delivering a strong performance. Players have the option of keeping the UI on or off during their expedition, which is a plus because by turning off the UI you actually get to experience real immersion at its finest. There are no markers to assist you and so every move you make truly puts you in the driver’s seat, adding an extra emotional dynamic to the game that really sends chills down your spine.
The bloody pool of rats are so meticulously designed that just seeing them scurrying around gives you goosebumps, with their devilish red eyes leering at you from every angle as you desperately try to avoid wandering into the darkness. The rats are such a powerful symbolic reference to just how impactful the Black Death was, and how overbearing they can be if you don’t take the proper precautions to survive. All of that serves up a theatrical performance that really emphasizes just how haunting life can be at times, but also helps us to better appreciate having our family there to protect us.

Sound, Music

As if the rats weren’t a terrifying experience already, A Plague Tale: Innocence delivers a spine-tingling array of sounds that are enough to keep you up at night. As you walk through a vacant forest in search for refuge from the Inquisition, the sound of silence evokes a horrifying feeling because of the uncertainty that lies ahead. One moment you’ll hear the gentle chirping of birds in the trees, and the next moment you’re overwhelmed by sounds of blood curdling screams, swords being embedded into the guts of an innocent villager, and a gang of rats devouring flesh faster than you can even comprehend. All of this is supplemented by the straightforward gameplay that can be a bit annoying at times but overall, provides a generally rewarding experience.

Gameplay

To kick things off with the positives, one thing A Plague Tale: Innocence does very well is its control scheme and how easy it is to jump in and play. The game does a great job of notifying you when it’s time to interact with specific items, or when to attack an enemy that’s nearby. Animations are incredibly detailed and really help to convey the amount of danger that surrounds you when wandering through various locations. When times are bleak for the duo, Hugo’s presence creates a charming contrast with his childlike behavior, which makes you appreciate the relationship they both have and how their bond really helps to define the narrative so fluidly. You grow a fond attachment to the two and oftentimes develop such a deep immersion within the game that it’s almost as if you’re right there with them, seeing their maturity evolve. Surviving at all costs is the crux of the game and where a lot of intense moments are incubated from, but also where several problems tend to creep up, which can ruin those very heart wrenching scenarios. One prime example is the Inquisition and how they behave, or lack thereof, in the world around you. When in stealth mode and trying to devise an escape plan, these knights don’t seem to provide enough of a challenge that would make you scream in fear. The AI behavior isn’t perfect by any means and oftentimes the Knights would be alerted by you, but then succumb to very repetitive actions that really sap the fear out of the action. You sling a rock at a pile of metal equipment only for the Knights to respond in a very similar manner, and act in such a way that feels somewhat robotic.
They’re not braindead by any means since there were moments where the AI would definitely set you up for a quick death, but a lot of times we found it quite easy to navigate our way through without feeling too threatened. This often created a somewhat linear approach to our method of escape which carried on until the very end where even the boss battles felt a little underwhelming. It’s challenging enough to keep you engaged, but when the AI shuts down so too does the immersion, which to be honest is the primary selling point of the game. All of this however is made up by the sheer fact that these rats don’t play around, and if you get even an inch close to these pesky rodents, they instantly take you out. That’s where a lot of the fear and excitement derives from in A Plague Tale: Innocence, and where a lot of your attentiveness is put to the test. Crafting items becomes even more imperative the deeper you dive into the chapters, and the spells you produce through alchemy really help in keeping the rats at bay. That being said, puzzles do provide a stimulating challenge, and so having the right items equipped will give you the upper hand when confronted with obstacles.
[ad_middle class="mt40 mb40"]

Honey's Gameplay Consensus:

There are plenty of positives to take away from A Plague Tale: Innocence, from its superb delivery on the narrative between Amicia and Hugo, to the challenging puzzles that await you in the later half of the game. They make up for the shortcomings that you do come across such as the ones we mentioned earlier, and over time you actually forget about how dumb as rocks the Knights can be at times. Indeed there are several moments where predictability rears its ugly head in relation to the story, but once again, a lot of that is supplemented by the terrifying moments that you experience while fighting your way through the non-stop onslaught of rats that are adamant on sealing your fate. Those impactful moments are complemented with scenarios where the importance of bonding becomes the main focal point, and helps to remind us just how gracious life can be when you just slow down to appreciate the smaller things. The Black Death is definitely overbearing, but Hugo’s lighthearted approach to solving problems and putting Amicia’s ego to rest when she overreacts instills a liberating feeling that everything will be just fine, if we just take things one step at a time.

Honey's Pros:

  • Incredibly polished visuals make this game so lifelike it feels like watching a movie.
  • The fantastic relationship between characters really helps to bring the story to life, and creates more emotional impact.
  • Navigating your way through tricky corridors and solving puzzles while being chased by rats is a scary yet satisfying ordeal.
  • 12-15 hours of gameplay is more than sufficient to enjoy this game.

Honey's Cons:

  • The AI behave in very strange ways sometimes, which robs you of that immersion.
  • Gameplay can feel linear.

Honey's Final Verdict:

Whether you’ve seen the presently airing (at least presently airing upon the drafting of this article) version of Dororo, or the original version from 1969, then you know that Daigo Kagemitsu, the main villain, is a lord to Ishikawa, a section within the province of Kaga during the era of the Samurai. So, did this Kaga Province actually exist? If so, when? What was there? What is it known by modern day standards? Read our Anime Culture Monday to find out!

The Real Kaga Province

Prior to the Meiji Era during the late-19th Century, Japan was made up of different provinces, or domains, called “han,” and they were under the jurisdiction of a warlord, or Daimyo. Within these domains, were other districts, and as we shared before, Ishikawa was actually one of its districts. As a matter of fact, the real Kaga Province was one of the final provinces that were rounded during this period. While we can’t exactly pinpoint the year that Dororo takes place in, real Kaga Province was founded sometime around 823 AD, and was officially dissolved on July 25, 1869, meaning that the land under its system existed for over 1,000 years! That’s almost three times more than the present lifespan of the United States as it is! As portrayed in the series, the villagers relied on prosperous harvests and due to Daigo’s drought in his land, he prays to demons to bless his land. As for a Hall of Hell, or Jigoku no Dou, unfortunately, we couldn’t find any evidence of its existence. So, who was its Daimyo? Throughout its lifespan, Kaga was under the control of the Maeda clan. The first ruler was Maeda Toshiie, a general who was close friends with Oda Nobunaga.

Samurai

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="AICL-3633" text="" url="" ]

As for the series, based on what we could gather from extensive research (largely from Japanese sources), Dororo takes place somewhere in the mid-15th century, during a time when the power and influence of the samurai started to progress at a very fast and unpredictable rate. While modern pop culture around the world tends to glorify the samurai spirit thanks to Tom Cruise’s The Last Samurai, Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai, other present samurai related manga, and through Japanese MMA fighters, Dororo goes in the opposite direction and from the titular character’s point of view, the samurai was seen as the bad guys since they oppress and exploit regular citizens. To a certain extent, lower ranked samurai, meaning those you could equate to lets say a private in today’s military, were rather poor and they did some pretty bad stuff as portrayed in this anime such as abuse regular civilians. As shown in the episode about the evil sword, they were also encouraged to behead their enemies as proof that they accomplished their mission. In the earlier part with Mio, some did in fact actually have sexual relations with minors.

Kaga Today

As we shared earlier, the province was disestablished in 1871, a few years into the prime of the Meiji period. Upon being dissolved, certain sections became what is presently known as Fukui Prefecture, and there are other sections now known as Ishikawa Prefecture, the namesake of the same district where Dororo takes place in. And within Ishikawa Prefecture, the Ishikawa District actually continued to stay in existence until it merged with the town of Nonoichi on November 11, 2011. It neighbors Ishikawa Prefecture’s capital city of Kanazawa. As for Nonoichi, it is located along the Tedori River, which is a source of the community’s irrigation and its water is used for hydroelectric purposes. While we do see a river in the first episode of both versions to Dororo (and Hyakkimaru is put into a river after his birth), we can’t really confirm or deny it’s the same river. Presently, Nonoichi is still an agricultural centric city just like how the ancient version is portrayed in Dororo.

Final Thoughts

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="Amazon.co.jp" url="https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B07M65JXS9" ]

While you aren’t likely to face any demons in present day Nonoichi, it’s still nice to see not so much has changed in terms of economics. Farming seems to be very prosperous thanks to the Tedori River, and thankfully, not at the expense of some warlord sacrificing his child to demons. So for some of you Dororo fans reading, you can visit the setting in Ishikawa Prefecture, but we can’t guarantee if there are any specific landmarks other than probably a river that relates to the series (and probably a hot spring as well). We also would like to point out that modern day Ishikawa Prefecture does have its own unique dialect, but isn’t at all portrayed in the anime. However, for those of you that can read Japanese, you can learn through the prefecture’s famous cookie, Ishikawa Hougen Tou Chishiki. Probably due to how the dialect can even be foreign to non-natives of the prefecture, use of modern Japanese is applied in both versions to this anime.

Why You Should Watch Meiji Tokyo Renka
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="https://www.crunchyroll.com/meiji-tokyo-renka" ]

1. The Characters

Meiji Tokyo Renka has no shortage of characters for you to enjoy. Mei is a fantastic main character and the male characters all perfectly fit into their roles in the story. Whether you want some deep characters with fun personalities like Mei or you just want to enjoy the good looking anime boys, Meiji Tokyo Renka has you covered.

2. The World

After Mei finds herself sent back in time, we get to experience a really unique world. Meiji Tokyo Renka has a unique twist on the Meiji era. The whole world is exciting to both look at and experience while also being unique from a story perspective. Along with the world, the soundtrack to the anime is stellar, and matches the world and tone perfectly.

3. The Ending

The ending of Meiji Tokyo Renka was somewhat controversial with many people liking and hating the route that was taken. Although the outcome may not be what everyone wanted, it still was incredibly effective in terms of wrapping up the story and giving us a sense of finality. It was the perfect way to wrap up Mei's story and making the most of the personal journey she went on throughout the anime.

[ad_middle class="mt40"]
Why You Should Skip Meiji Tokyo Renka

1. Too Basic

Many of the Meiji Tokyo Renka's assets just feel plain and leave you underwhelmed. A lot of the time, the anime, both visually and story-wise, is in a place of mediocrity. This results in a lot of the saniome being forgettable, but it’s not bad enough to make you want to stop watching.

2. Story Structure

Perhaps the biggest weakness of the anime is that most of the series follows the same pattern of Mei meeting one of the main boys and helping them with their problems. Outside of the first and last couple episodes, this is what most of the series is comprised of. While it does set up some great character moments for Mei, it leaves a lot of the other characters feeling flat and underdeveloped.

This is one of the most touching scenes of the entire anime and combines everything that makes the anime great.

1. The Touch (Episode 3)

This is by far the best scene in the entire series and is sure to make you tear up. After Haru messes up Subaru's manuscript, he heads to get more ink only to find a picture album that Haru had knocked over. While looking through the album, Subaru remembers the last time he saw his parents and starts to cry over his guilt of not spending more time with them. That's it for our list. Doukyonin wa Hiza, Tokidoki, Atama no Ue. had so many fantastic scenes it was hard to pick just five, but hopefully, these five made you remember why the anime was so great. Which scene was your favorite? Are there any scenes you think should be on the list? Let us know by leaving us a comment.

Angel of Death

So ummm what? I mean I knew it was coming, but to see it play out like that was a bit odd. So we now know who has basically been pulling the strings behind everything. It’s interesting but let’s talk about this boring match beforehand. The season started out powerful with a gross finger-chopping game. It was weird and yet entertaining a la nail game from the first season. As the season has moved on, the intensity from the best has really ebbed and it took me till this bet to realize how cheap they are becoming. Unless the finale really hits it out of the park, I think we are going to see it flatline at the end. Shame, but so anyway, all of the big gamblers are going head to head from this season save for Itsuki, Kaede, and Kirari. I love how the series keeps bringing back Midari to have her fawn over Yumeko who in turn, ignores her. It’s funny. So we have this bet which is going head to head against these competitors…or is it? Batsubami reveals that she is betting too, okay I can forgive that. But then the whole thing where the people in the other room who have been defeated are gambling too? Bzzt. This is boring. Then Yumeko does her thing to provoke Batsubami and we get an about face from them as they go all in. Not bad, but like… oh okay… So she basically looks like Leanne Sidhe from the Megami Tensei/Persona series with tattoos on her hand. If you don’t know, Google her. Blegh this is becoming a subpar ending. Whatever. I hope it gets interesting. Bring back Yumemi!

Saving Each Other

I think this week’s episode of Doukyonin wa Hiza, Tokidoki, Atama no Ue. was a great way to tie things up together, although that last line felt a little out of place (especially since I don’t feel like Haru is ever on Subaru’s head). Anyway, it was a really sweet episode where Subaru is stranded due to the typhoon. Then Haru, worried about Subaru not coming home, runs out of the house as soon as there is an opening. Haru spends her time looking for Subaru while thinking of her own siblings who were outside in a typhoon in the past scared and cold. Meanwhile, Subaru somehow got back to the city somehow and started the hunt for Haru to make sure she’s OK. It’s so sweet. The whole episode centers around Haru and Subaru’s attempts to save each other. They are both well meaning and want to save each other from the typhoon. It’s cute and in the end, it’s nice to see that they end up together. It sums everything up really nicely about the relationship Subaru and Haru have together in the entirety of Doukyonin wa Hiza, Tokidoki, Atama no Ue. They spend the whole time saving each other from the troubles they both dealt with. While this anime feels a lot like a slice of life anime that’s rather casual, a lot of time, it’s about the real problems we all face in real life and how we get through them with our relationships.

Beautiful Drawn Fetishes

Rod Locksley

One of the most awaited shows of the season is finally out, so it's only natural for us to take a moment and just talk about tights. The current Spring season has a few "how is this not hentai?" shows, with Nande Koko ni Sensei ga!? as probably the better example. However, ecchi lovers were actually expecting Miru Tights, an anime that's just an excuse to see gorgeous teens wearing tights and showing off their beautiful legs and thighs. Homi, Yua, and Ren are three teenagers starting a new year at school, with Yuiko Okuzumi as their homeroom teacher. Even if this is a short anime, 4 minutes are more than enough to explicit the premise: this is a slice of life anime of sorts, but please don't mind the plot and just enjoy the view. The art is gorgeous and the chill music is spot on, so what's not to like for those who enjoy a waifu with sexy legs!? Maybe the creators of the show were doubtful about people's reaction to an anime like Miru Tights, so the first episode gives us soaking wet tights and some cute faces as a promise of what's to come. Now it's up to us to tune in next week for a new dose of leg fetishes, but being a collection of 4-minute episodes, it may be better enjoyed binge-watching all of them once they're out. If you ask me, this is a beautifully crafted anime but I don't think I'm capable of bearing its slow pace... All in all, what we should take from this is that a Pixiv artist is bringing awesome still drawings to anime, so maybe in the future we'll be seeing more fetishes and weird stuff from the internet in a wider, more professional medium?

Shield vs. Spear

Gotta admit, it’s amazing how bad Naofumi’s luck is at times. Episode 18 of Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari had Naofumi and party get teleported to one of the nearest heroes to have Naofumi keep his promise. Despite his earnest attempt at talking things through, Naofumi runs into Motoyasu--the Spear Hero--and immediately sparks fly. Motoyasu makes a bold claim that Naofumi killed the sword and bow hero and is unwilling to listen to Naofumi’s pleas for a truce. A battle ensues between the two heroes and once more Naofumi--despite his lack of offense--comes out on the top thanks in large part to his team and their new skill, combo attacks learned from watching our foolish spear hero. Filo ends up saving the day though when she warns Naofumi that a strong attack was inbound and after the extremely powerful beam from the sky hits a new threat emerges in the form of the church. Now Motoyasu seems to realize Naofumi wasn’t lying about the other heroes but is it too late seeing as how the grand master of the church seems to have a large attack prepared via his golden sword? All I can say is next week’s episode is sure to be even better than this one and maybe another battle of grand proportions will await!

His First Real Mission

After gathering up the gifts they were given from Urokodaki, Tanjirou and Nezuko set out for the next town over, where Tanjirou’s first mission is to search for the girls who have been disappearing there. A young man named Kazumi is wandering the town aimlessly after the girl he was with vanished, and he helps Tanjirou find the initial scent of the demon. They finally find the demon in question, with its latest victim in tow, but it is not so easy for Tanjirou to defeat this hybrid, even with his new blade… Once again, we are struck by just how far Tanjirou has come in his training, now walking around as a Demon Slayer himself! He may not be completely comfortable in fighting all demons, but his skills are still impressive and animated so beautifully. It is poetic - Tanjirou has now improved so much that someone like Kazumi, a total stranger, recognizes him immediately as a powerful Demon Slayer just by the way he reacts to their strange predicament. We’re also so excited by the prospect of Nezuko fighting alongside her brother once again! The next episode should be just as good, with the prospect of an interesting enemy for the brother/sister duo to overcome!

Fighting Mold

Abbacchio gave his life to reveal the boss’ face, but Bruno and Giorno aren’t having any luck finding the elusive man in official records. That is, until a mysterious distorted voice calls to them through their laptop and says that he knows a way to defeat King Crimson! To make it happen, they need to meet this strange person in the Roman Coliseum as soon as they can. But Doppio and the boss send their very last assassins to stop them, and it turns into the most harrowing battle the gang has ever faced... I love the extra backstory that David Productions added for Cioccolata, the sadistic doctor who attacks Bruno’s gang on the way to the Coliseum. The new flashback shows a young man who’s so obsessed with death that he dissects people while they’re awake during surgery and gaslights elderly patients into committing suicide. Going back to a much earlier episode, they even showed that he and Secco were the ones who tortured and murdered Sorbet and Gelato. It makes Cioccolata even more despicable, which is a difficult feat, considering that his manga incarnation was already one of the vilest villains in JoJo history. The mad doctor’s stand, Green Day, rots its victims with a pathogenic mold when they move to a lower elevation. The way it moves and festers in the anime is perfectly disgusting, and I can’t wait to see how the rest of the battle plays out. There are plenty of iconic moments coming up in the next few episodes, and judging by what I’ve seen so far, they’re bound to be amazing!

Nanako’s Rebellion

With the overwhelming feeling that he is growing further and further apart from his daughter, Yoshihiko tries to find a way to get closer to Nanako. Thanks to a misunderstanding one morning, Yoshihiko thinks that Nanako is angry with him and beginning a rebellious phase. Hoping to find an answer he turns to his wife, his son, and even parenting articles to find a way to solve his problem. Fearing the worst, he starts to picture Nanako as a punk just like Eiji. As Yoshihiko decides that he has had enough and will never speak to Nanako again, she comes home smiling with a cake in hand to give to her dad. This week was another fantastic episode of Senryuu Shoujo. Yoshihiko really stole the show and his moments in the episode even outshined the cute moments between Nanako and Eiji. While we've gotten to experience a little bit of Yoshihiko's peculiar personality in some of the previous episodes, his moments in this episode go all out showing just how funny his character is. All of Yoshihiko's exaggerated reactions to the little things are hilarious. It is so nice to watch an anime that has so many great characters from the main cast to the side characters.

[balloon_speech align="left" text="I love all of these characters. Even side characters like Nanako's family are totally fun to watch." image="honey-happy2"]

Finale

That's all for this week! Tune in next week!

10. Miyata Sayaka from Keijo!!!!!!!!

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B01K49UBCI" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" October 2016 - December 2016 " post_id=""]

Miyata Sayaka has chosen Keijo as her career as a competitive athlete, denying her father’s wishes to study judo and succeed him. Sayaka looks like a token kuudere, but she’s more expressive and can be outspoken, especially during Keijo bouts. Sayaka has a bit of a cute side too, specifically when she has a complex about her bust size. All right, sure, Sayaka isn’t a true double A flat, but in the official manga, Sayaka is canonically an A cup. Why does her cup size vary in the anime? Art style inconsistency and breast padding. No, seriously, some swimwear has padding on the breasts to hide the nipples, and the extra bulk makes the bust seem larger. Right, then. Sayaka has below average cup size compared to the rest of the cast in Keijo, and it’s generally disadvantageous when you’re in an extreme contact sport like Keijo that requires the combatants to use their breasts and butts as tools in knocking enemies off the ring—or “Lands” as they’re called. Sayaka knows this, so that’s why she’s more of an outfighter, and uses her speed and butt to fight her opponents. Outside of Keijo, Sayaka is a bit self-conscious about her bust and easily gets upset when someone points them out. Thankfully, she’s not as flat as the rest of the girls on the list.

9. Tatsumaki from One Punch Man

[Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" October 2015 - December 2015 " post_id=""]

Tatsumaki is a favorite amongst One Punch Man fans because, you know, she’s a loli and she can kick ass. Also she doesn’t wear any panties. Or maybe she’s wearing a thong. Eh, we’ll never know for sure. Despite her petite appearance, Tatsumaki is an extremely powerful esper and she’s the 2nd most powerful S-Class hero, capable of decimating an entire city by calling down a meteor. It’s very unlikely she’ll do that because she’s a hero, but, although the scene was interpreted differently in the adaptation, Tatsumaki did kill a kaiju or giant monster by dropping a meteor on his head. Tatsumaki is very brash, moody and often overconfident thanks to her esper powers, and she really hates it when people point out her small build, often mistaking her for a child. If you manage to survive after calling her a kid, then you should know that “kid” is canonically 28 years old, and that explains why she’s often called the “legal loli” by fans.

8. Nana Astar Deviluke from To LOVE-Ru OVA

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="NEOGDS-258553" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 6 " aired=" April 2009 - April 2010 " post_id=""]

Nana is the second princess of the three Deviluke princesses and she came to Earth along with her twin sister Momo because they want to see their big sister Lala and, apparently, running away to a distant star system is the best way to avoid studies and responsibilities. That’s probably normal for any alien royalty. At first, Nana really dislikes Rito and she doesn’t understand why Lala or even Momo find Rito attractive or consider him someone they can trust because all Nana sees is that Rito is a pervert and whatever he does, he’s always up to no good. Personality-wise, Nana is a bit of a tomboy, short-tempered, and tends to overreact. Deep down, though, Nana is a very loving girl and values friendship greatly. Unfortunately, all those good and bad traits don’t equate to a good body physique. Nana is, well, you know, flat, and she totally hates it when her younger sister Momo (who is more physically mature) teases her about her chest size and Momo often uses Nana’s flatness to win arguments. If there’s anything good about being flat-chested is that Nana has a small fanclub in school and the three members of the club love Nana’s flatness.

7. Shalltear Bloodfallen from Overlord

The NPC inhabitants of Great Tomb of Nazarick are quite an interesting and diverse bunch, all thanks to the various tastes and preferences of the guild members who created them. You have a giant bug, shotas, cross-dressers, maids, butlers, vampires, succubi, the list goes on and on. One of the NPCs is Shalltear Bloodfallen, the flirtatious and deadly true vampire who guards the halls of the great tomb. Shalltear is merciless and kills anyone without hesitation, even her minions if they fail to execute her orders. Stats-wise, Shalltear is the most powerful Floor Guardian of the tomb and is extremely adept at combat, and, at some point in the anime, Shalltear was able to stand toe-to-toe against the already stupidly-overpowered Ainz Ooal Gown. Despite her impressive resumé and powers, she’s very, very, extremely lacking in the chest department. No one is perfect? Shalltear Bloodfallen is an NPC created by Peroroncino, one of the original guild members and Peroroncino is a big fan of eroge. Peroroncino is known for his kinky sexual fetishes and, apparently, he’s a big fan of flat-chested girls. His ultimate creation, Shalltear Bloodfallen is based around his fetishes and that explains why Shalltear is a loli, loves to flirt with and have sex with women, and is a bit of a masochist. But don’t be fooled by Shalltear’s hourglass figure because behind the fabric covering her voluptuous breasts lies… nothing. Yeah, Shalltear is flat as a board. Her chest is so flat, Shalltear uses breasts padding to make them appear bigger, especially when in front of her lord Ainz.

Binboda Momiji is a god of poverty sent to the human world to restore the balance of energies that’s being disrupted and absorbed by Sakura Ichiko. With constant absorption of good fortune around her, Sakura Ichiko has everything from wealth, beauty, intelligence, good health, and extreme good luck. But at the same time, Ichiko causes misfortune to everyone, leading to people having poor health, increased depression, poverty and even death. Momiji must do whatever it takes to take back the excess good fortune from Ichiko before it’s too late. Being a god of poverty, Momiji is the exact opposite of Ichiko: poor, homeless, and has a flat chest. Momiji doesn’t mind having lived the past 100+ years lacking the features of a woman, but she can be very pissy when her flat chest is constantly getting compared to Ichiko’s massive melons. This leads to various confrontations and hilarious situations with anime references and 4th wall-breaking jokes. Despite Momiji’s unfortunate circumstances, Momiji is good-natured, caring, and is always willing to set things aside and get along with Ichiko as frenemies.

Short-tempered, gullible, lazy, arrogant, and a bit of a troublemaker, Sakurako is basically your average energetic middle school girl. Despite her lack of any notable skills, Sakurako is part of the student council, and still a fun girl to hang out with. Sakurako has been competing with her childhood friend Himawari for the spot of vice-president. This rivalry has been going on for quite a while, but back when they were young, Sakurako and Himawari were the closest of friends. However, as the two friends grow up together, Sakurako realizes that she’s not developing as fast as Himawari, especially in bust size. Sakurako has a fixation on big breasts, especially Himawari’s, because Sakurako is flat-chested. Sakurako mocks Himawari for having huge breasts and when Sakurako is upset at anything, there’s a chance she’ll blame Himawari for it, and sometimes Sakurako vents her frustration by slapping Himawari’s breasts.

4. Louise de La Vallière from Zero no Tsukaima (The Familiar of Zero)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="sentai" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 13 " aired=" July 2006 - September 2006 " post_id=""]

Louise comes from a well-known aristocratic family in Tristain, and despite her nobility, Louise doesn’t use her authority and rank to get what she wants. In fact, Louise is very friendly, approachable and compassionate, whether you’re a commoner or not. What makes Louise famous, though, especially in Tristanian Academy of Magic, is her lack of any natural affinity to magic: she sucks at magic and when does manage to cast a semblance of a spell, it violently explodes leaving either a crater or a few burnt clothes. With Louise’s talent for making things go BOOM and a lack of any talent as a spellcaster, she has earned the title “Louise the Zero.” Though Louise did manage to summon, albeit accidentally, a human boy from another world instead of a magical creature/familiar, and no one in the Academy has done that. Anyway, the human she summoned is Hiraga Saito from Earth and he becomes her familiar, protector and lover. Louise is a tsundere and sometimes hides her feelings toward Saito, and it often leads to funny situations, especially when Saito fools around with other girls like the maid in the magic academy, Siesta. Louise gets violently jealous, especially when the other girl is bustier than she is. To makes matters worse, Saito loves big boobs and is easily seduced when he sees a huge pair jiggling his way. Yeah, our talentless tsundere aristocrat is flat as a board and her boyfriend loves something she doesn’t have. A complicated relationship, indeed.

Shinomiya Kaguya is the daughter of one of the biggest companies of Japan and is the student council vice president of the prestigious Shuchiin Academy, a school founded to educate the children of the elite. Kaguya is distant towards her peers, often takes advantage of them for her own goals, and hates to lose. Kaguya has acquired many talents in arts, literature and martial arts, but what she hasn’t learned that no top academy or institution could provide is how to deal with love. Kaguya is in a constant romantic arms race between her and the school council president Shirogane Miyuki, by forcing the other to confess their love first. Kaguya is very smart and she’s good at finding flaws in Miyuki’s counter-arguments, but when she is about to go in for the kill and force Miyuki to yield and confess, her closest friend and school council secretary Fujiwara Chika unexpectedly jumps in a throws a wrench into her supposedly perfect plan. The most notable disaster is when the student council discusses where they should spend their summer vacation, the beach or the mountains. Kaguya is the one who suggests they go to the beach so that she can seduce Miyuki with her two-piece swimsuit and womanly charm. But when Chika comes into the mix, Kaguya realizes that Chika has a larger breast size than her and if they go to the beach, Miyuki will instead get seduced by Chika instead. Kaguya may be rich and have a world-class education and upbringing, but she can’t beat genetics.

2. Aisaka Taiga from Toradora

Aisaka Taiga has a very complicated upbringing and this molded her short-tempered, foul-mouthed, and explosive personality. Taiga is extremely strong and capable of knocking out people with her fists, all while having an underdeveloped body and height shorter than your average high school student. Because of her sudden bursts of anger, especially when you talk about her body size, Taiga has gained the moniker the “Palmtop Tiger.” What people and her classmates don’t know, however, is that Taiga is a very kind and compassionate person. Taiga is very childish, especially when trying to talk to her high school crush Kitamura Yusaku, and is emotionally vulnerable given how Taiga has lived alone all of her life. Fortunately for Taiga, her life as a human being is gradually changing all thanks to the wonderful friends she has earned. When a character is voiced by Kugimiya Rie, then chances are her character is a loli and a tsundere. And wouldn’t you know it, Aisaka Taiga is a loli, a tsundere, and voiced by Kugimiya Rie! Apart from KugiRie’s iconic voice and choice of character roles, Taiga is your petite tsundere character with some interesting quirks that make her stand out amongst other tsundere characters.

1. Izumi Konata from Lucky☆Star

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="LACM-4404" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 24 " aired=" April 2007 - September 2007 " post_id=""]

Konata is a petite girl with long blue hair, but don’t let her size fool you because she can be quite athletic and knows a bit of martial arts. But on a typical day, Konata is seen as very lazy and she avoids joining clubs because, well, since Lucky Star aired in 2007, streaming services like Crunchyroll and Netflix didn’t exist. And given that clubs are after-class activities, they conflict with Konata’s own after-class hobbies: watching anime on TV. After that, Konata eventually goes about her usual daily routine of playing video games, reading manga, playing adult games, and spends the rest of the evening playing MMORPGs… with her homeroom teacher. Oh and believe or not, despite having a very heavy otaku lifestyle, Konata is very intelligent and she can ace tests if she wants to, or rather, if she gets an incentive, like her dad Izumi Sojiro buying her a specific gaming console depending on her score. Liking flat-chested girls is a popular otaku fetish in Japan and Konata knows this all too well because she too is an otaku. And unlike the other girls on the list, Konata is proud of her figure, her inadequacies, and her chest size—or lack thereof—is her selling point when she’s out cosplaying or even when working at a cosplay cafe. An otaku having an otaku fetish built in and will likely stay this way forever, now that’s a great combination!

Final thoughts

Being flat-chested has many downsides, but it shouldn’t bring a girl down just because she’s not carrying a lump of fat on her bust. Accept who you are, appearance doesn’t truly define a girl. Konata knows this and she’s proud of her figure and all the while having great supporting friends. Konata is smart, athletic, has great friends and gets to watch tons of anime, and doesn’t care what people think. And you should too! Though maybe they should’ve drunk that glass of milk back when they were still growing...

"A flat chest is a status symbol! It's rare!"

Boobs, just that one word can cause the blood of men to boil and a wicket smile to appear on their face. Jugs have caused men to make foolish mistakes and act with their lower head since the beginning of time. Big breasts are common in Anime, with some female characters possessing breasts as big as their bodies. I guess most men like that in women, big boobs with nothing on top. I am the opposite. I would rather have a good mind and wonderful personality. Luckily for me, there are anime characters that match my style. Today, we will be looking at the top ten anime girls who have flat chests, no two from the same anime and hopefully you’ll change your mind about the biggest boobs is the best boob mind set.

Something powerful has destroyed seventy percent of the moon and the world is in shock. A week passes and it is time to start class. You get dress and go to school. When you walk into the classroom, you see a yellow octopus and your blood begins to boil. Your friend Nagisa quickly says “Hi”, calming you down. Assassination Classroom is one of the new weird anime. The main characters are students and their assassination target is their teacher. Their teacher is some kind of scientific accident who got loose and destroyed the moon. Their task is to kill him by the time of their graduation or he will destroy the world. Soon the students realized that Koro-sensei might be the best thing that has ever happened to them, as his teaching methods are far better than a regular teacher is capable of. 6. Kagura from Gintama

[imageCharacterWithAnime character='gintama kagura' anime='Gintama dvd']
[Information episodes=" 201 " aired=" April 2006 – March 2010 "]

It’s always hard to find a good paying job. Some people have to travel forty minutes one way to get to their job while others have to live in a hotel and send money back to their family in another country. Kagura, a smilingly Chinese immigrant, had to travel a little farther than her Chinese accent entails. Kagura has come from another planet in order to provide for her family. Her alien blood has given her many weaknesses, including a sun allergy which causes her to carry around an umbrella for protection, but with those weaknesses, her blood also gives her strengths and a very powerful hand shake… I just feel bad for Sadaharu. What do you get when you take some science fiction, some drama and accidently knock a whole bottle of comedy into a show? Well, with anime, you get Gintama. Gintama takes place back at the end of the Edo period after an alien race took over the world outlawing swords. Kagura is part of a small odd-job crew that forms around Shimura Shinpachi and now they take on any and all of the odd-jobs of the Edo period. Karura’s lack of common sense, something that is gained by living and experiencing things in your environment, shows at most parts of the show. An alien from outer space wouldn’t know it’s impolite to force its way into a child’s game. However, this cluelessness lets us laugh and see the kind heart behind that powerful flat chest.

What those teachers don’t know, is that it requires a little more time and energy with some students. Luckily for Sobu High School, they have Yukino to help those who are hopeless in the eyes of the teachers. You could say that Riko has a good head on her shoulders, when it comes to the bodies of the other sex. So, when the basketball team was forming at Seirin High School they had to have a good coach and chose her for that honor. She didn’t think that her time was well spent with a half-assed team, so she rudely turned them down. Kiyoshi, the captain of the basketball team, did not give up and eventually wore Riko down and she finally accepted to become the coach. After accepting the coach position, Riko forced the entire team to the roof to shout their goals. [imageCharacterWithAnime character='idol master chihaya kisaragi' anime='idolmaster dvd']
[Information episodes=" 25 " aired=" July 2011 – December 2011 "]

“Why do you want to become an idol?” Producer “To sing.” Kisaragi “Is there any other reason than that?” Producer “I like it, that’s all.” Kisaragi This interview happened when the Producer started working at 765. He acted as a cameraman in order not to let you know that he was the new producer and you didn’t hide your feelings about being called an “idol” since an idol is not exactly what you are. You are a vocalist, a skilled vocalist at that. You don’t like to talk with other people and would rather spend your time listening to Bach. iDOLM@STER follows the journey of 13 young ladies as they try to become the best idols in Japan. Even though one or two of them are not sure about their course in life, the other idols help them and together they learn how to become better and believe in themselves. Despite not really being into the idol scene, Kisaragi gives it her all when the jobs they are giving to her are not up to her standards. All our young vocalist wants to do is sing. Even though she has to do jobs outside of singing, Kisaragi never gives up on her dream and pushes through all of the mindless jobs that her producer makes her do. Never giving up on her dream, staying determined and her drive for stardom brings Kisaragi to the number one spot of this list.

A girl’s beauty is not how big or small she is in the chest, it comes from deeper in her soul. The girls above prove that, but not only them. There are many many more flat-chest girls in anime and real life that prove they are more than their breasts. Other men need to stop judging a book by its cover and look at the pages within.

April 2019 has passed and it’s time to rank the hentai titles that came out. New episodes of one of the best titles that came out in February and March didn’t show up this April, but we are still blessed with new shows to watch. “Blessed” as in if you’re into infidelity and cuckold fetishes. We’re kind of worried there’s no sign of Saimin Seishidou The Animation getting a third episode and Tiny Evil getting a fifth episode, though. But, eh, they’ll show up in the schedule soon. And speaking of the schedules… the list of upcoming shows is usually incomplete and there are times an unexpected show pops up! As the list currently stands, let’s focus on the present with the Top 5 Hentai Anime of April 2019!

5. Muma no Machi Cornelica - Episode 4

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="DMM" url="http://www.dmm.co.jp/mono/anime/-/detail/=/cid=h_589acjdp0007/" ]
[en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="4+" item2="Aired" content2="November 2018 - Ongoing" post_id=""][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Episodios" content1="___content1___" item2="Emisión" content2="___content2___" post_id=""][/es]

Al survived another round of getting his life force drained by the succubi living in Cornelica and this time, he’s making sure not to fall for any of their traps. And yes, he still falls for it. Arune, the inventor, apologizes to Al for all the things she has done and urges Al to come with her to Rosary’s bar for some dinner. And wouldn’t you know it, the bar is full of succubi and Al is in deep trouble yet again. It’s probably safe to say that Muma no Machi Cornelica ends with episode 4 because there are no new episodes announced for the next four months and the ending of episode 4 does the orgy sex routine, commonly used as a climactic moment to conclude a hentai series. Assuming the anime is indeed over, Muma no Machi Cornelica is very average with an average story, average character development, and average length. The sex scenes, however, are very nice—visually pleasing, good-looking characters, not completely hardcore, and has femdom (if you’re into that). But if Muma no Machi Cornelica goes for another couple of episodes, then, hopefully, it will focus on new succubus characters and an episode where we finally see Lily’s true colors. Sure, we know Lily wanted the shota dick all along since episode one, but her desires are more intense than the other succubi. Though, if the glowing red eyes are a symbol of a succubi falling in love, then, meh, we need more encounters of new succubi then.

Sarasa is getting desperate as Kira is slowly being taken away by another girl, and in order to stop Kira from having sex with someone else other than her, Sarasa starts a mental reimprinting regimen which involves Sarasa fucking Kira from dawn till dusk. Did the reimprinting work? Well… no. The ending, if you call it that, is inconclusive and there are no signs that there will be a fifth episode. Sarasa has failed yet again in reconditioning her brother Kira because the third wheel Kasuri still managed to get Kira to fuck her. Assuming Ane Chijo♥Max Heart is over, the anime is another average and forgettable PoRO hentai with samey character designs but decent-to-good sex scenes. While it lasted, Ane Chijo♥Max Heart was a good ride featuring a nymphomaniac big sister constantly using her brother to satisfy her lust and we get some rom-com elements like Sarasa getting extremely jealous and defensive when another girl is winning Kira’s heart. Decent story, has incest, femdom, numerous lengthy sex scenes, but overall forgettable. Time to move on to another hentai series, folks!

3. Aikagi The Animation

Classmates Nozomu and Shiori are talking about their future after high school. Nozomu is going to enroll in a distant university for college because his parents want him to be independent. Though the problem is he’s not used to living alone. Shiori has experience and proposes having Nozomu stay in her small flat for one month to teach him the basics of housework and independence. Will Nozomu adapt to independent life while holding himself back living with a girl for a whole month? Aikagi The Animation is a decent vanilla hentai with a bit of romance between likable main characters. There’s a decent build-up (for modern hentai standards) leading up to wholesome and sweet sex and nothing feels rushed like having sex because the guy slipped and pinned the girl on the floor. Nozomu has feelings towards Shiori and he finally expresses his feelings after living together with her—they are a match made in heaven. For the sex side of things, it’s completely vanilla but with a few kinky and wild moments to keep things interesting, like Shiori giving Nozomu a blowjob while he’s dozing off. The art and animation are decent too with well-paced humping and thumping in the right kind of scenes. And you’d better enjoy this little romantic distraction because the last two titles on this list are the complete opposite of Aikagi the Animation.

Tsukamoto Tarou is a happy man married to his lovely wife Misako for four years. A good paying job, peaceful life, and happily married to his loving wife who pampers him like a child at least once a week, Tarou’s life seems perfect. But one day, Tarou notices that his wife is peculiarly prettier than normal and he can’t figure out why. Is it the new makeup she’s wearing? The new dress, perhaps? After hiring an investigator, he finds out that Misako has been cheating on him with another man. Rather than feeling repulsed at his wife’s infidelity and signing the divorce papers, Tarou instead gets aroused seeing his wife getting fucked left and right by someone other than himself and decides to make an agreement with his wife’s lover to continue their affair. As long as he gets a video copy of their sexual trysts, of course. Yep, this is a good old fashioned cuckold hentai anime, and it’s a good-looking one at that. The first episode is from the perspective of Tarou and tells the viewers how he feels every time he watches a new video of his cheating wife. To put it simply, Tarou has a cuckold fetish he never knew he had. Tsuma ga Kirei ni Natta Wake is not for everyone, but if you can stomach NTR stories, then you can stomach cuckold stories as well. Art and animation were done by studio T-Rex, the same studio that did Saimin Seishidou The Animation… OH! So that’s why there’s no episode 3!

1. Ano Danchi no Tsuma Tachi wa… The Animation - Episode 1

April 2019 seems to be the month of infidelity and the next one is Ano Danchi no Tsuma Tachi wa… The Animation. The story takes place in an apartment complex where lonely housewives prostitute themselves to satisfy the sexual needs their husbands don’t. For a generous fee, customers visit the wives during the day for some good time and leave long before the tired husbands return. Episode 1 features two lonely wives with their own specific sexual needs. Ano Danchi no Tsuma Tachi wa… The Animation is very straightforward than Tsuma ga Kirei ni Natta Wake with little story getting in the way with the best sex scenes you’ll ever see in a while. The story isn’t strictly NTR nor its Cuckold, but rather, it’s simple prostitution. A basic story and pure unadulterated sweaty MILF sex with animation style by director Tatsumi (Mizugi Kanojo: The Animation and Fela Pure: Mitarashi-san Chi no Jijou - The Animation), Ano Danchi no Tsuma Tachi wa… The Animation is one wild and crazy hentai experience and it’s easily the top hentai to watch in April 2019. The massive areolas can be a turn off, though. Seriously, they’re bigger than your mouth.

Final Thoughts

There were 9 titles that showed up in April 2019, but we think some of them weren’t good enough to land in our Top 5. That is not to say they’re bad, though! Kimi Omou Koi gets an episode 2 and while the vanilla romance story is welcome, it’s not as good as Aikagi’s decently-paced and cuter story. Yue ni Hitozuma wa Netorareta is another title with a similar premise as Ano Danchi no Tsuma Tachi wa… The Animation and Tsuma ga Kirei ni Natta Wake, but the animation is done by studio Queen Bee, so it automatically disqualified for its pseudo-animation. Ero Konbini Tenchou is your staple PoRO hentai, but it’s not as good as Ane Chijo♥Max Heart. April 2019 is a decent month for hentai with new shows and old shows finally ending or are finished. Yeah, it’s unclear when we’ll get new episodes of past greats, but at least the new hentai shows that did appear will keep us occupied for a while. What do you think of our Top 5 list? Did you like the new shows or is the cheating bit a major turn off for you? Please do leave your thoughts and displeasures in the comments section below because, well, we do read them and any feedback from you, dear readers.

[ad_top2 class="mt40"]

Synopsis

Ingress the Animation is an adaptation of Niantic’s augmented reality game bearing the same name. It follows the story of three individuals sensitive to “Exotic Matter” or XM, a substance that influences the consciousness of humanity and empowers the supernatural abilities of those with a strong affinity for it. Makoto Midorikawa is one such individual, capable of peering into the memories of objects that he makes physical contact with. He regularly assists with police work as a contractor, unaware of the true nature of his power or its connection with XM. At least, that’s the way it goes until a typical job investigating a freak lab explosion gets him caught up with Sarah Coppola, an XM researcher and sole survivor of the accident as well as Jack Norman, a veteran agent whose last objective was to ensure the woman’s safety.

It Starts with a Bang (Spoilers Ahead!)

With Ingress’ main pull as a game focusing more on subterfuge, conspiracy theories, and intrigue, it’s interesting to see how Craftar Studios introduces the world to an audience that lies outside of the pre-established fanbase. To drive interest, they give a minimal but succinct outline of the two factions, The Enlightened and The Resistance, who represent conflicting opinions on the use and safety of XM, then we’re thrown directly into the action. Jack Norman and his close associate Christopher Brandt are on their way to recover Sarah Coppola, a possible human asset, when they’re bull rushed by an organization known as Hulong. In a desperate attempt to cover his ally, Jack reveals that he’s far more capable than a baseline human. Through the manipulation of XM and some damn good cardio, he holds his own against a squad of Hulong grunts and a helicopter despite losing Christopher to Hulong’s clutches. Their paramilitary operatives bring Sarah into custody shortly after. Cornered, Christopher detonates his own body, taking his captors with him, but leaving Sarah unharmed. Makoto is quickly introduced and spurred into rescuing Sarah by a mysterious benefactor who warns him that the future of humanity hinges on his actions, he unwittingly runs afoul of Jack when a lack of communication and the agent’s more “hands-on” approach to getting answers puts them at odds.

Signs of Promise

The initial action sequence sets the pace for the rest of the first three episodes, Ingress the Animation balances its originator’s premise of mysteries wrought by a veiled world that lies just under the nose of common folks with combat that’s loosely reminiscent of titles like Wanted and Push taking the place of the cast’s primary means of conflict resolution. The early plot quickly evolves into a particularly deadly race against nefarious elements; Makoto seeks to help Sarah recover the memories she lost in the explosion and keep her former employers from abusing XM while Jack and Hulong’s breath remain hot on their necks. By the time Jack catches up to Makoto and his charge, it looks like the two parties are on the brink of an understanding, only for more Hulong operatives to bust their way in and injure them both, leaving episode three on a cliffhanger. Not much time is spent on answering questions, but the details regarding Dark XM, a more potent but dangerous variant of the substance, and Hulong’s plans to utilize it for mental domination are drip fed between gunfights and the momentary place of rest. The opening strokes of Ingress the Animation paint a story in constant motion.

Early Concerns

The same action-packed opening episodes that can get someone glued to Ingress the Animation don’t help with characterization. Three episodes make for a little over one-quarter of the show’s runtime, yet we don’t get a fully fleshed-out idea of the three leads’ motives and backgrounds. As far as worldbuilding goes, audience members interested by the existence and applications of XM or the major powers at play will go hungry if the story remains conservative with its explanations. Additionally, the character designs for Makoto, Jack, and Sarah are passable, but not exactly unique, couple this with the fact that CGI animation doesn’t perform as well when special effects, action, or beauty shots aren’t in focus, and one can see a recipe for the slower bits being a turnoff for viewers.

Final Thoughts

From the first three episodes alone, Ingress the Animation appears to be a hit or miss sort of deal. Viewers drawn to the modern supernatural genre and those already familiar with Ingress will have an easier time than others enjoying this adaptation, but there’s only one surefire way to determine if the delivery holds up to your standards. What do you think? Does it get the green (or blue, we won’t judge you based on your faction affiliation) light? Or was Niantic and Craftar Studios perhaps a bit too bold in pursuing an animated title for a phone game?
