New Challenges Await

Fan-favorite Zinogre originally charged into Iceborne with its electrifying attacks, and now a more vicious variant awaits. Stygian Zinogre harnesses dragon elemental instead of lightning this time around, so brave hunters will need to bring their Master Rank skills and strategize their approach in order to defeat this amped up beast. Those who are victorious will be rewarded with valuable materials to craft new and powerful equipment designed with an intimidating black and red palette. A new Tundra Region expands the Guiding Lands end-game locale further with a snowy landscape that’s home to bone-chilling monsters such as Barioth and Viper Tobi-Kadachi. As an added incentive, special materials exclusive to the Tundra Region can be used to increase the maximum level for weapon augmentation. On top of Stygian Zinogre and the Tundra Region, a tempered Elder Dragon is also being added to challenge hunters – Tempered Ruiner Nergigante.

Defender Weapons

For console hunters making their way through the main story in Monster Hunter: World, new Defender Weapons for all 14 weapon types are now available as part of the latest update. The weapons can be easily forged at the Smithy and are upgradable, becoming even more valuable for those currently playing World. Combined with the Guardian Armor set and the community-focused Hunter Helper feature, newer players can look forward to getting through World quickly and accessing the massive content that Iceborne has to offers.

More Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds Collaboration Quests on PS4™ On the Way

The second round of Horizon Zero Dawn™: The Frozen Wilds collaboration quests for Iceborne will be available from 4pm PT on December 12. Players will get a chance to craft all-new themed equipment fashioned after the Shield-Weaver armor in Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds, and upgrade the Stormslinger weapon from the previous November quest. Palico companions can get special gear designed after Frostclaws, bear-like machines found in Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds. Plus, a third round of exclusive collaboration quests for PS4 players will be available from 4pm PT on December 26. This new event quest will reward players with special materials to craft the new Banuk α+ armor set. Iceborne players will also get an opportunity to upgrade Aloy’s Bow and craft a new Felyne Watcher equipment, which were originally available in Monster Hunter: World, with Master Rank level stats. Players can visit the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne website for more details on the latest title update including info on player feedback driven adjustments that have been made, new updates for Your Room and upcoming seasonal fests in the game.

Who it Caters to

Shenmue III is for the 81,087 dedicated backers who helped fund it (which happens to include me, so be sure to find my name in the credits!) as they have been waiting since September 6, 2001! As we have shared in previous articles, Shenmue is considered the original modern open-world game so if players want a taste of that, then this is their chance! In addition to the hardcore fans who never gave up, Shenmue III is certainly for those that love classic Kung Fu flicks because that’s what Shenmue is in game form!

What to Expect

If any of you readers have played the first two Shenmue games, the third installment largely plays like them but adds some new elements to keep it fresh and yet still maintain the atmosphere of the originals. In addition to visual and conversational exploration, expect some Kung Fu fighting and QTEs but with a new presentation that equally appeals to veterans and rookies alike.
[ad_top2 class="mt40 mb40"]

Story

We don’t know if any of you remember March 21, 1987 (or if you were even born yet!), but what makes this date significant is that it marks the beginning of Shenmue III! Ryo and Shenhua have finally stepped out of the cave where they have just discovered giant versions of the dragon and phoenix stone mirrors that were in Ryo’s father’s possession. Shenhua’s father has been kidnapped and our heroes have to find him as they explore her home village of Bailu. As they explore the village, Ryo learns that his father once visited there on a training journey from his old training partners who still reside there. As they get deeper into the proverbial rabbit hole, Ryo and Shenhua learn about the origin of the mirrors, how they relate to their fathers, and why the fiendish Lan Di (a Kung Fu master who killed Ryo’s father in the beginning of the first Shenmue game) is after them. Later on, Ryo and Shenhua venture off to the port city of Niaowu where they face new dangers, and encounter new and old allies.

Gameplay

The graphics of Shenmue III are very much in the spirit of the original Dreamcast releases and make excellent use of the Unreal Engine 4. This is masterfully expressed in Bailu Village, where players can immerse themselves in its nature and culture. Just like in Shenmue 1 and 2, players can almost freely explore the environment around them. This is executed by closely inspecting every object and opening every cabinet in a room, or by talking to the locals who may have information that can help Ryo progress on his quest. Every character Ryo interacts with is voiced and, thankfully, players have the choice to experience the game in Japanese or in English. Furthermore, the exploration is expanded so that Ryo can wander grassy fields to collect medicinal herbs which he can later sell for money or trade for a skill book that expands his martial arts mastery. Shenmue still uses a day/night cycle so some of the activities and story events are connected to it. One hour in the real world equates to a day in the game just like in the originals. As to how time is applied in the story; take, for example, it’s 12:00 pm in the game and the person Ryo needs to meet won’t show up until 7pm. Players have the option to skip time to 7pm, or just kill time doing something else. Beyond that, players can also see NPCs all over town at a certain time and when it’s dawn, the children go home and the adults get together and eat at the food stalls.
While Bailu Village may not be as big as the fictional LA County in GTAV, players are given the chance to intimately know its culture by interacting with its citizens and participating in a range of activities. Bailu Village uniquely contrasts with Yokosuka, the setting of the first game; in Shenmue I, Ryo feels at home since just about a majority of the NPCs already know him and are willing to offer their support. When Ryo visits Bailu Village, he’s naturally treated like an outsider and not many people want to talk to him when he first shows up. Once players have Shenhua accompany Ryo to the village, the villagers will react differently thanks to her presence. Then when Ryo talks to the ladies of the village without Shenhua present, they wonder if they’re engaged! As Ryo and Shenhua venture out of Bailu Village, players get to experience a different side of China through the port city of Niaowu (based on Phoenix Town in Hunan Province). Niaowu is a big town that offers cultural authenticity with its traditional architecture along with food that players can buy for Ryo such as meat buns or steamed dumplings.
Naturally, martial arts play a part in Shenmue III and it re-introduces training. As opposed to practicing moves in an empty parking lot or at Ryo’s home dojo like in the first game, Ryo can now spar with other martial artists to level up his moves. Through sparring, players can familiarize themselves with how the fighting works. As opposed to re-using the Virtua Fighter engine (Shenmue was conceived as a Virtua Fighter RPG) from the first two games, Yu Suzuki has implemented a brand new fighting engine that is more striking oriented in order to accommodate players who don’t specialize in fighting games. In addition to sparring, other training mini-games players can have Ryo engage in are practicing the one-inch punch (coined by Bruce Lee) and the horse stance, a common martial arts exercise. While sparring raises Ryo’s attack levels, the one-inch punch and horse stance mini-games level up Ryo’s health. Another training method that is introduced in the second part is Rooster Steps, which focuses on Ryo’s footwork. Like the one inch punch and horse stance, this exercise also raises Ryo’s health. Speaking of health, how is it applied in Shenmue III? In the first two games, players didn’t have to worry about Ryo losing his health if they have him run from point A to point B. In Shenmue III, just by walking, Ryo’s health goes down and players are going to have to refill it by giving him food. Players can buy fruits, vegetables, soda or authentic Chinese food to keep him going! At the start of the game, players are going to be low on money so they’re going to need to make a quick yuan (Chinese currency) for food (and other things)! So how can players help Ryo make some money? First, there’s chopping wood! It’s not much but if players do it for a day, it’s enough to help buy the food Ryo needs! As we mentioned earlier, Ryo can collect herbs in the wild and once he collects enough, he can make a considerable amount of money off of them. Also, Shenmue III introduces a simple fishing mini-game. By the end of a session, players can sell whatever fish they catch for some cash! Last, the forklift job is back from the first game and introduces some fresh features! Instead of merely transporting boxes, players can have Ryo move arcade cabinets from a boat to a warehouse, and they become playable in the arcades the following day.
You can also gamble! The way gambling is executed—players gamble for tokens or prizes as opposed to money—is intended to accommodate Japanese social norms where gambling for money is illegal. To circumvent this stipulation, players can exchange whatever tokens they win for prizes and, in turn, sell the prizes for money (and this loophole is semi-practiced in Japan)! Some of the gambling games players can bet on (which are back from Shenmue II) are lucky hit or throwing a pair of dice to score a bigger number than the dealer. Some original games include betting on turtle or frog racing and players button-mash to make the animal they bet on go faster. If gambling doesn’t work for some players, then Ryo can once again participate in martial arts challenge fights like in the second game! If any of you have played a game featuring QTEs (or Quick Time Events), then you’ve got Shenmue to thank for that! As expected, QTEs are back but are presented differently than the first two games. As opposed to a button flashing on the screen as in the originals, the QTEs in Shenmue III are more like Yakuza’s where the button has a blue outline that functions like a stopwatch to indicate how long players have to press the corresponding button. Freeze QTEs, which were introduced in Shenmue II, are also back and are also portrayed differently by feeling more “in motion” with the action (such as the Body Check attack). Unfortunately, Suzuki’s arcade classics that established his name back at Sega such as Hang On, Space Harrier, and After Burner aren’t featured or playable in Shenmue III, but the QTE mini-games are! As opposed to having modern digital games (with the exception of a Virtua Fighter spoof featuring Chobu-chan, the in-game mascot of Niaowu), a lot of the arcade games Ryo can play are more in-tune with old mechanical carnival games such as whack-a-mole, a driving game where players drive a toy car on a rotating cylinder that represents a road, and a game where players have to throw a golf ball into a moving golf hole (or you can play the basketball version) and more! Other returning novelties such as buying capsule toys are present. As opposed to buying capsule toys of franchise Sega characters such as Sonic or Rent-A-Hero, players can buy capsule toys of Shenmue characters, Buddhist statues, gems, and other generic toys.
[ad_middle class="mt40 mb40"]

Honey's Gameplay Consensus:

While the fighting engine is more button-masher friendly, a lot of the techniques from the first two games manage to make a return such as the elbow assault, but they’re executed differently to accommodate the new engine. Thankfully, sparring functions as the ultimate tutorial to get players familiar with it! The new training games are also rich in detail. For example, when players first try the one-inch punch, Ryo tends to chamber his fist back to his armpit (making it look more like a one-foot punch) but when he levels up through practice, his efficiency in executing the technique will start to resemble how Bruce Lee famously demonstrated it! However, we feel that the training dummies that Ryo uses to practice these training games on could definitely feature more functional applications to them. Just like how Kung Fu practitioners use wooden dummies to polish their techniques, we feel that Ryo could further practice his techniques on them in addition to sparring. What we considered a downside as it relates to the restructuring of the fighting engine is how it changes whenever NPCs teach Ryo a move. In the first two games, the player would apply the verbal instructions of a martial arts NPC into the controls in order to learn it. Due to how the moves are executed in the third game by relying more on the face buttons and none of the directional ones, this feature is slightly modified by not giving players a chance to try the moves out themselves.
The voice acting in the English version is a HUGE improvement over the second game, but we still recommend the Japanese version. A good portion of the English dialog still comes across as iffy, but Shenmue in an international sense wouldn’t be what it is without how awkward the English is. The good news is that Masaya Matsukaze and Corey Marshall return as the respective Japanese and English voices of Ryo and when players hear them perform, it’s as if they never left the role these last 18 years. Some of you may know Masaya Matsukaze in the roles of Teru Mikami from Death Note, Morita in Durara, and Shin in Code Geass: Akito the Exiled. As for the best English voice, we have to give it to Shenhua’s actress, Briana Knickerbocker, most famous as the voice of Rem from Re:Zero and Filo from The Rising of the Shield Hero. As Shenhua, Knickerbocker masterfully balances her concern for her father and her country girl curiosity through her interactions with Ryo. In Niaowu, players can make international calls to characters from previous games. Players make these calls by purchasing phone cards (remember those?). As a backer, one of my rewards was a phone card for unlimited calls! For spoiler reasons, we won’t say which actors are back but, unfortunately, some voices are changed in both the Japanese and English versions and the new actors just don’t have the same feeling as the originals. Due to how time is applied in Shenmue III, critics feel it slows down the game and we can’t disagree with that. As we said, players have the option to skip time, or they can just explore the village, make some money, or level up. While other open-world games do have a time system, it’s just something players see, and not feel because time is of no consequence in some games such as in GTAV or MGSV. Shenmue does a great job of demonstrating how time works not just by an NPC’s individual schedule but how the sun moves, thus affecting light. When players start their journey in Bailu Village, they can see how it looks in the nighttime. They can experience how dark it can get in a place with no light other than a full moon.
Another charm that was very prevalent in the first Shenmue game was the magic weather system which would produce rain or snow since Shenmue 1 largely takes place in December. While Shenmue III once again features weather, it wasn’t really that emphasized when we played it. While we’re not experts on China’s climate, we’re going to have to guess that it doesn’t rain too much between March and April. In instances, it did rain during our quest in Bailu Village—the grass would still have puddles and the sandy areas would still be muddy the following day if it was sunny.

Honey's Pros:

  • For Kickstarter contributors, they get awesome in-game bonus content depending on how much they donated.
  • Rich and detailed environments that are like the real thing!
  • The soundtrack excellently applies traditional Chinese acoustics and percussions to bring players into its world.
  • Even with its new features, Shenmue III largely plays like the originals
  • Ryo and Shenhua’s casual conversations can be educational as they engage in how their cultures and lifestyles differ.
  • While the dialogs are in Japanese or in English, there is text support for other languages such as French, Spanish, and Portuguese.

Honey's Cons:

  • Not for people who prefer style over substance.
  • Not for people that prefer something fast-paced.
  • The weather didn’t feel too emphasized.
  • Not for people who want a definitive ending (Suzuki already confirmed Shenmue III completes 44% of the WHOLE story).
  • No bonus content such as Shenmue III footage on Dreamcast (if it ever existed like the Shenmue Saturn footage feature in Shenmue II).
  • Grappling is no longer featured in the fighting engine.

Honey's Final Verdict:

For nearly 20 years, the fans who never gave up got the chance to show their love and dedication for Shenmue by giving whatever they could to the Kickstarter that launched back in E3 2015. Thanks to the ALL the fans, no matter how much they gave, they made this game happen and it was damn well worth it! Through the success of the Kickstarter, Suzuki could thank the fans by giving them a chance to be part of its legacy. Some of the Kickstarter rewards included having certain donors featured as a capsule toy, and other donors who gave a certain amount of money would also have their pictures displayed in a gallery at a temple in Niaowu called Save Shenmue! Did we mention that there are other donors who happen to be featured as NPCs?! Considering the rewards depending on how much a donor can contribute, they’re definitely the ultimate treat! If you are interested in trying Shenmue III, as we said before, it’s best that you start with the first two games because they’re intended to be played consecutively. You’ll have a better appreciation for the story, a better idea of Suzuki’s vision and why longtime fans never gave up on it. For now, we stand by the fans as we also encourage Suzuki to make Shenmue IV.

Here’s Why You NEED to Use Scorbunny as Your Starter in Pokemon Sword & Shield

[ad_top1 class="mb40"]
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]

One of the more defining features of the Pokemon franchise comes in its vast diversity of Pokemon, all of whom carry their own strengths and weaknesses. As an RPG that follows a very similar flow to that of Chess, choosing the right Pokemon from the very beginning is imperative to your long term success. Knowing just what a Pokemon can or can’t do will help to better shape your team building skills, along with having a deep understanding of the fundamentals pertaining to the various Pokemon types. Fire types have always been a popular choice among Pokemon fans since Gen I and still continue to heat things up in the competitive scene. With Pokemon Sword & Shield now currently out in the wild for players to pick up and play, new players may find it a bit challenging to choose their starting Pokemon. Scorbunny, the brand new starter fire-type Pokemon, is a rewarding choice for both new and experienced players and we’ll dive into a few reasons why that’s the case!

Very Strong in the Beginning of the Game

Every generation of Pokemon will provide players with different experiences, which ultimately will guide them towards the exciting end-game. However, before you get that far, it's important to think carefully about your decision from the very start and in Pokemon Sword & Shield, Scorbunny is your best bet. Battling gym leaders in the new Galar Region, much like every other Region in past generations, require you to have Pokemon that are a strong counter to that gym in order to win. Milo is the first gym leader that you encounter in Pokemon Sword & Shield, being a master of the grass-type Pokemon, a type which fire-types have a 4x effectiveness over. Scorbunny can blast his way through this gym relatively quickly, without having to rely on your other secondary Pokemon for assistance. Pair that with Scorbunny’s natural speed stats and you’re pretty much in and out within minutes.

Solid Stats for a Fire Type Starter Pokemon

Stats on a Pokemon can determine whether that said Pokemon can handle its own in battle, and can thrive in the long game once you’ve trained it to a high enough level. Scorbunny is the original evolved form, with Raboot and Cinderace being its second and final evolutions on its life tree. As you continue to level up through the game your stats continue to increase which ultimately allow you to determine just how much potential your Pokemon has. Once you’ve evolved Scorbunny all the way up to Cinderace it becomes an entirely new beast, with its speed stats being the most impactful, and strong attack power to back it up. With its Blaze ability, allowing for a 1.5x fire attack buff at ⅓ or less of its max HP, Cinderace becomes a massive threat when it’s leading the team. It can come in and score some serious damage, allowing for the rest of the team to play around its other weak points, a mediocre defense and Sp.Atk. So if you’re looking for a speedy fiery Pokemon who can dish out some critical hits with a complementary team to back it up, then Scorbunny is the way to go.

Overall Cool Design

Back before Pokemon Sword & Shield released, the internet was going wild about the new starter Pokemon designs, and immediately we were enamored by Scorbunny’s look. For one, Scorbunny took on a different appeal, one that felt refreshing from past fire-type starters, and gave it a unique feel that we fell in love with immediately. You could tell right away that Scorbunny was going to be an incredibly swift Pokemon and perhaps hard to deal with if you didn’t have a counter to his speed. Once the game dropped and we finally had a chance to really dabble with the fiery bunny, we realized just how cool its overall design is, especially in its evolved forms Raboot and Cinderace. Scorbunny is like the small rambunctious child who just wants to go outdoors and explore with all of its heart, with Raboot conveying a more mature yet rebellious teenage version of the once wild child that it had been before. Cinderace shows a lot more maturity and takes on this role as a professional futsal player with fiery kicks and can likely outrun you on the pitch. Every evolution of Scorbunny is a direct reflection of childhood into adulthood, while still maintaining a playful demeanor.

Final Thoughts

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="ACXA-10791" text="" url="" ]

While Scorbunny isn’t the best fire-type out there, it certainly has its perks on any team that needs a speedy Pokemon to get in and outpace the more defensive threats. He can poke his way through with his strong fire attacks, while mixing things up with the ability to learn fighting-based moves such as the powerful High Jump Kick, or the strong dark-type Sucker Punch. Whichever way you decide to play Scorbunny is up to you but one thing is for certain, that this fire bunny means business and it’s here to stay for the long run. Look forward to more articles on Pokemon Sword & Shield along with analysis on the competitive scene! Until next time!

Here’s Why You Need to Watch C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control

[ad_top1 class="mb40"]
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="NEOGDS-41903" text="" url="" ]

2011 was an excellent anime year. Many people will remember first catching titles like Hunter x Hunter (2011), GOSICK and even Stein’s;Gate that year; however, we’re not talking about those shows this time. We’re looking at a somewhat obscure gem, one by the name of C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control. The series is about 19-year-old Economics student Yoga Kimimaro, a struggling student who works multiple jobs to put himself through school and make ends meet. He is one day approached by a strange man in a top hat who offers him a chance to make millions at a place known as the Eastern Financial District. This is an area where people stand to make loads of money by offering up their very futures as collateral. Kimimaro reluctantly accepts the offer; however, he now has to participate in weekly duels known as “Deals” against other people in the district, wagering his future in the process, coming to truly understand what money is really worth.

Really interesting concept

C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control has one of the most unique concepts coming out of anime in the past decade. While it does read like the widespread idea that money is inherently evil, it positions that discussion in a way that makes one question the idea of trading one’s own time for the money they need to live the kind of life they desire. Human desires and greed are at the forefront of this show; however, there are storylines running in parallel to this base concept that make C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control an interesting show both as a concept and in its execution.

The “Deals” are cool fights!

The “Deals” that Kimimaro and other individuals in the Eastern Financial District engage in are really flashy fights between individuals with their very futures at stake; however, they also have supernatural companions who accompany them in these duels and perform most of the combat. Imagine Pokémon fights but trainers are people putting their money where their mouth is (figuratively and literally) using avatars that are, in many ways, manifestations of the futures they have put up as collateral.

Final Thoughts

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="NEOGDS-41900" text="" url="" ]

Overall, C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control is a show that is very easy to get into and with just eleven episodes from start to finish, it’s incredibly easy to binge. The art and animation are also nothing to scoff at, with the show’s greatest visual exports being the Deals that happen in the Financial District as well as the overall appearance of the Financial District itself.

Here’s Why You Need to Watch UN-GO

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="ESCL-3783" text="" url="" ]

Coming out in the Fall Season of 2011, UN-GO is a rather obscure title that seems to have disappeared in the annals of history for most people. However, that isn’t a testament to the anime’s quality in any way. The short 11-episode title packs a lot of heat in its storyline; which features a dystopian future, some supernatural powers and quite a lot of mystery! A show this good definitely deserves more recognition and that’s why we’re here! Detective Yuuki Shinjuurou is known as the “Defeated Detective” and he goes around Tokyo solving cases with his eccentric associate, Inga. Shinjuurou is particularly good at his job and has solved multiple homicide cases; however, his assistant’s true motives remain shrouded in mystery.

1. Mystery

The element that can make any anime title grab you by the throat and never let go, UN-GO is quite packed with mystery and suspense, with the array of characters being somewhat enigmatic in their own way. The setting is also not one that is outright explained, with the series seeming to occur sometime in the near future. UN-GO will not hold your hand – it’s the kind of show that might need to be watched a few times over in order for it to make sense beyond the surface level. With crime, terrorism, and secrecy being the name of the game, UN-GO is not one short on gripping moments.

Art and Animation

the thing that UN-GO really had going for it is the nature of its art and animation. Animated by Studio Bones, it isn’t all that surprising that UN-GO is utterly appealing to the eye, with characters boasting interesting designs and there being some intricate details and eye-catching animation in some of the livelier scenes, particularly the scenes where Inga uses some mysterious power in order to help crack cases. The art style seems reminiscent of anime like Durarara! and Baccano!

Final Thoughts

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="KSCL-1874" text="" url="" ]

UN-GO is a show that seems to be brimming with uniqueness and an interesting personality that makes it quite surprising that it isn’t talked about more. Be that as it may; however, it feels rather comfortable regarding UN-GO as a hidden gem and given the short burst of 11 episodes, Un-Go is a particularly satisfying time investment that may prompt you to watch it again and again!

Here’s Why You NEED to Watch High Score Girl II

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="WHV-1000741642" text="" url="" ]

Amongst Autumn 2019’s rich selection of titles to check out is the second season of High Score Girl. Taking place in the early half of the 1990s, audiences are treated to the story of Haruo Yaguchi, an academic underachiever who obsessively excels at games. During the sixth grade, his reign at Street Fighter II at the arcades is put to the test as he is given a rival in his classmate, Akira Oono, the non-verbal daughter of a rich family. However, their rivalry is by no means bitter as it allows them to become best friends. During their junior high years, Akira moves overseas while Haruo gains a new rival and romantic interest in Koharu Hidaka. With the trio now in high school and Akira finally back in Japan, not only do they still enjoy going to the arcade but find themselves in the middle of an intense love triangle. So allow us to share why you NEED to watch High Score Girl II.

It’s Educational

As crazy as it sounds, High Score Girl can be an educational experience as it pertains to Japanese games and pop culture between 1991 and 1996. Many non-Japanese viewers that represent the younger Generation-X and older millennials likely grew up going to an arcade during their youth. However, arcades have been dying out in many nations outside of Japan since the end of the 1990s but they still continue to thrive there, which is portrayed in High Score Girl as the arcades in that anime are full of businessmen and minors. Through High Score Girl, domestic and international audiences alike can see what the gaming scene in Japan was doing over 25 years ago. As portrayed in the first season, non-Japanese audiences can see that the PC Engine (or the Turbo Grafx-16 in other regions) and the Sega Saturn were big hits in Japan despite being abysmal failures outside of it. In addition, audiences can get a glimpse of how competitive the scene was between certain regions, which began during the time when Daigo Umehara, one of the world’s greatest Street Fighter players, also started to get into the scene. In this season, the second season of High Score Girl highlights the rivalry between a Shibuya arcade and an arcade based out of Mizonokuchi, a district located in the neighboring city of Kawasaki. Last, the series makes references to some unique trends that were beginning to happen in Japanese youth culture at the time such as the beginning of the “gyaru” (a way of saying “gal”) subculture (a style involving artificial tans, bleached hair, and excessive makeup), and how Japanese high school girls were starting to wear loose socks as a fashion trend of the time. In addition, this part of the series also portrays how Shibuya was not only a place where people could enjoy the arcades, but how it has always been the center of the country’s fashion trends, and viewers can see how Haruo’s time there affects his fashion sense.

Further Expands Character Relationships

Considering where the first season ends as it pertains to Haruo, Koharu, and Akira, audiences sure want to know what happens next. Despite Akira remaining non-verbal for comedic purposes, viewers can get an immediate sense that she has her own feelings for Haruo based on traditional textbook tsundere tropes she expresses. Koharu being someone who speaks, she’s very open with her feelings for Haruo. So it makes the audience wonder where Haruo could go next in terms of romantic relationships. For most of the series, he sees these two young ladies as friendly rivals and he’s never expressed such interests. Will Haruo open his heart? Or will he only see them as his playmates (at the arcade)?

More Games

As the series expands with the timeline, we are positive that the series will show more games in correlation to the story’s progression. At the beginning of the first season, audiences were treated to the original Street Fighter II upon its debut in 1991. As for 1996, the series emphasizes on Street Fighter Zero II as the key Street Fighter series, and eventually, maybe the series will get to the debut of Street Fighter III, Virtua Fighter 3, and other hit titles of that time! If the series goes as far as 1997, could we get glimpses of Final Fantasy VII (considering that Square Enix publishes the original manga)? Watch to find out!

Final Thoughts

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="WHV-1000749885" text="" url="" ]

High Score Girl is certainly for those that love retro gaming. For Gen-X’ers and older millennials, this is certainly a series to check out if they want to go down memory lane. For the younger viewers, we still recommend this anime to give them an idea of how gaming has evolved over the past 30 years. Not only does it help inform viewers of how gaming has changed, it can also provide international viewers with an accurate depiction of what appeals to Japanese gamers and how their tastes differ from non-Japanese gamers. Last, for audiences that love romantic comedies, then this anime is progressively full of tropes of rom-coms compared to last season, which set the seeds for what is now to come. Granted, the designs and animation are simple but put that aside as it has a story viewers can still get a kick out of.

There's a Meaning to Evil

If you thought the revelation at the end of episode 6 was shocking enough, then what about Magase's part on episode 7!? Even if her luring powers feel unreal and straight out of a supernatural story, we can't deny she's by far the best villain of the season... and most certainly one of the evilest characters of the decade. In fact, the worst thing about her is that she's not a powerful sorcerer, a vampire, or any kind of monster; she's as human as any of us, and her reasoning defies all the beliefs of our current society. According to Kuijiin's own words, Magase's whisper is just like having sex, so irresistible and enjoyable at the same time. But even though we've seen how she can make people kill themselves in a variety of ways, watching this woman enjoy the dismemberment of the helpless Sekuro is another level of depravity! She sure as hell is a cold bitch, right? But... is she? I mean, other than being evil for the sake of evilness, both Magase and Itsuki have their revolutionary reasons to back them up, and the clash of paradigms is what keeps us coming every week. All I know is that this gets more interesting and challenging episode after episode, and this philosophical debate between Good and Evil is something we haven't seen in a few years now.

Last week’s Dr. Stone left us on a pretty surprising cliffhanger. When choosing who would be the third member of the cave exploration mission, Senku took the tough and semi-crude Magma as his third member. Well as we learn in this episode, that choice was well made. The exploration starts off simple enough and our trio enter the cave without too much worry. Unfortunately, trouble strikes when Senku discovers an area of the cave made from a weak rock mineral and is then subsequently pushed by Magma causing the floor to collapse. Senku tries to hold Magma’s big girth up but both fall into a pit and seem doomed at first. Using his intelligence--as always--Senku commands Chrome to use a water tube to fill the pit with water allowing them to reach the top. Chrome immediately blames Magma for nearly killing Senku but Senku knew that secretly, Magma tried to save him when he heard the floor crack under his weight! Chrome apologizes to our big warrior and the team discovers the much needed Tungsten to make the vacuum tubes! Forced to leave early due to Magma’s insistence, the trio return home to have Senku blind folded and thinking they secretly wanted to use him as leverage to save the village. As a surprise, he is unblindfolded and sees a telescope made for his birthday that Gin remembered! Senku really needs to realize these people in this village aren’t enemies but are his friends/allies and that trust will no doubt help them in the upcoming battle! Folks...two episodes remain and no doubt these last two will end this arc in a truly explosive way! We’re ready for the season finale but are you?

With Thorfinn, Askeladd, and Thorkell under his princely aegis, Canute marches right up to his father’s throne room to demand the respect he deserves. King Sweyn is surprised by his son’s radical shift in personality, realizing that he can’t dispose of him quite as easily as he initially planned to. He sees in Canute’s eyes the intent to kill and replace him, just as Sweyn himself had once done to his own father, but warns the prince that “the will of the crown” controls whoever wields it (meaning that, if Canute wants to create a new paradise on Earth as he says, the very nature of being king means that he’ll always be power-hungry). However, Canute is determined to carve out his ideal peaceful world, even if it means becoming a demon in the process. Meanwhile, pieces are gathering together to form the new band of Vikings who will help Canute assassinate the king and ascend the throne. Thorfinn keeps his strength and agility sharp even as his broken arm heals, Askeladd is emboldened to overthrow the king because Sweyn insulted his mother, and Thorkell is having a grand old time canoodling with other Viking leaders and out-drinking the newly cleaned up Priest Willibald (who, contrary to his usual scraggly appearance, is actually only 23 years old). Ragnar’s brother Gunnar comes out of the woodwork to assist Canute, but Askeladd doesn’t trust his weaselly words. What exactly is everyone planning, anyway...?

Having decided to join the basketball team, Kenji's desire to win is instantly tested. with the help of Sora, Yasuhara, Chuckie, and Nabe, Kenji tries to convince Satsuki to let him join the team, but Satsuki tells them there is nothing they can go about his suspension. Not knowing when to quit, Sora persists in his efforts to reverse Kenji's suspension and continues to badger Satsuki into letting Kenji come back to school. Thankfully, Kenji's suspension is overturned after the principal overhears Kenji's heartfelt request to Satsuki. However, things don't go as planned when the boys who attacked Kenji and got him expelled show up to fight again. Despite Yasuhara, Chuckie, and Nabe showing up to fight alongside him, Kenji decides to not fight back and let the boys beat him up. The last few episodes with Kenji have all been building up to this moment and it sure was great. Getting to know Kenji and his backstory was great and seeing him make sacrifices for the team brings a tear to your eye. What made this so great though, was that it not only was a great moment for Kenji, but it was a great moment for the rest of the team as well. We got see Sora continuing to pick fights knowing he can't win and we get to see the care and dedication Yasuhara, Chuckie, and Nabe have to both basketball and their friends. We also got to see Satsuki finally take the team seriously and do something as their advisor, which certainly bodes well for their future.

In a plethora of hentai, Vanilla is easily one of the most loved categories out there. Although it is recommended for those who are new to hentai because of its mild nature, anyone can enjoy a good vanilla hentai anime. Of course, in comparison to the other hentai categories, it is also one of the least-watched simply because not everyone likes their hentai to be plain and simple. For those of you reading this who are new to hentai, and those who are just curious about vanilla hentai, we've covered everything related to it in this article, so keep reading to find out everything you need to know about vanilla hentai down below.

What Is Vanilla Hentai?

If you've stumbled upon hentai, or are one of its extensive watchers, you probably know that hentai tends to feature a lot of kinks that are, frankly, not everyone's cup of tea. This ranges from rape to netorare, loli (often combined with the two mentioned before it to make things worse), of course, tentacles among many others. While they do provide a level of enjoyment to all the watchers out there, there certainly isn't any significant romance and feel-good factor to it. Simply put, hentai, when cleansed of all the nasty kinks gives us what is known as vanilla hentai. A decent vanilla hentai features a blooming relationship among two people which provides a sense of satisfaction to the people. With a decent amount of buildup at its back, the hentai anime finally progresses to the part where the couple has sex, and yes, you guessed it, it is every bit as fulfilling as one would've expected. So, anything in hentai that doesn't take things to an extreme qualifies as vanilla. While there aren't any specific nuances to it, it often features relationships that bloom between two childhood friends, and sometimes, strangers. Undoubtedly, this kind of hentai serves as a decent opener for those who are looking to see what hentai is all about. From there onwards, hentai can be better explored and if people don't like what else it has to offer, returning back to vanilla hentai is still an option. For those who want a hentai with a decent plot, this is as close to it as we'll ever get. Evidently, vanilla hentai, more often than not, possesses a story that the watchers can buy into, which makes it different from everything else that's out there. It goes without saying that watching a vanilla series brings a sense of satisfaction to the watcher, and to some of us, that may just be all that we're expecting from a hentai anime.

The Structure Of Vanilla Hentai

Vanilla Hentai usually feature a slow buildup to a relationship, which is what makes the anime all the more rewarding. Hentai anime often get right to sex, which although feels like it's serving its purpose, isn't really for the fans who prefer a more realistic story. In that sense, a vanilla hentai makes much more sense and gives you something to like and hate about the characters, as they're more fleshed out. As mentioned earlier, this usually comes from the focus thrown on various relationships throughout the hentai, such as the couple being childhood friends or two people who just fall in love with each other. Regardless of the relationship, the buildup is what is focused on more, which is then followed by the relationship moving to the next level, that is, a sexual one. A prime example of this would be one of 2018's best hentai anime, titled 'Kimi Omoi Koi'.

Kimi Omou Koi

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="DMM" url="https://www.dmm.co.jp/rental/ppr/-/detail/=/cid=h_402mjad230r/" ]
[Information episodes="2+" aired="December 2018 - Ongoing"]

Kimi Omou Koi features the story of Aoi, who is the daughter of a proud dojo master at Shinuro Aikido Dojo. Due to various reasons, her father decides to step down as the head of the dojo, leaving the position vacant for Aoi. Although she is very talented, Aoi doesn't know how to interact with men, which makes the job daunting for her. To help her, Shin'ichirou, her childhood friend, comes to her aid with a rather bizarre idea. According to Shin'ichirou, Aoi would be much better at interacting with men if she undergoes 'endurance' training in the form of stimulating massages from a man, that is, Shin'ichirou himself. Reluctantly agreeing to the offer, Aoi opens up Shin'ichirou's path to winning over her, and he does just that, thanks to his skills and the feelings that he's always harbored for her. Kimi Omou Koi is, unarguably, a gem when it comes to vanilla hentai. The hentai anime has it all, ranging from some of the most intense and rewarding sex to a relationship that you actually care about. Shin'ichirou and Aoi's connection with each other feels incredibly well written, and as they move their friendship to the next level, you can't help but enjoy the gradual progress. Although Aoi is hesitant to extend her hand to Shin'ichirou after he gets 'too excited' with her massages, she eventually falls in love with him as well, which is the cherry on top of everything else that the anime has to offer. As expected, a great relationship isn't all that this hentai anime has to offer. We also get some of the most beautifully animated sex scenes in it. We start off with a very intense boobjob as Aoi is pinned and blindfolded, concluding in Shin'ichirou drenching her in his seed. As Aoi starts falling in love with him, their relationship moves to the next level, and consequently, we also get to see a lot of sex, where Aoi is fucked by Shin'ichirou in various styles. If you haven't checked it out already, we recommend that you give Kimi Omou Koi a go.

Win-Win Situation

Although vanilla hentai feels like something that's too soft at times, that's not necessarily the case if you pick the right kind of hentai. There is no denying that vanilla hentai don't include kinks such as forced sex, or NTR which are a turn-on to some people. However, that's not to say that all the sex featured in it falls flat. Often, you get to see all kinds of couples trying various kinks in a vanilla hentai, which is what makes it a win-win situation for us. If you like hentai that's pure and gentle, you get to enjoy it without any problems, and if you prefer your characters to spice things up, well, you're certainly not going to be disappointed given the wide array of vanilla hentai that are available out there. Essentially, you cannot go wrong with this hentai, and that's one of the prime reasons why vanilla hentai deserve more recognition. A prime example of a vanilla hentai with several kinks would be..

Ane Yome Quartet

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="DMM" url="https://www.dmm.co.jp/mono/anime/-/detail/=/cid=h_402mjad129" ]
[Information episodes="2" aired="October 2015 - March 2016"]

Ane Yome Quartet features the story of Kouki, who bravely announces that he'll be taking care of the four girls that live next door as their parents fly out on an overseas trip. As a result of this kind gesture, the Habanashi family decides that Kouki can marry anyone their daughters and that he should decide by the time they return. As expected, the Habanashi daughters are all beautiful and their love for Kouki is certainly not lacking in any department. A long summer where Kouki gets to enjoy a lot of sex with all the sisters finally begins. As expected of a harem vanilla hentai, Ane Yome Quartet features lots of girls, each with their own personality that appeals differently to various fans. Since Kouki intends to marry one of them, he has to decide which sister is the best for him, and thus, whatever we see building up between the characters isn't just something in the spur of the moment. We get to see a decent amount of buildup in Kouki's relationship with each of the girls, which ultimately culminates in them having relentless, passionate sex. Ane Yome Quartet is a prime example of a hentai anime which features lots of kinks as there's Yurina who is bossy during sex and doesn't give Kouki an inch, Mokome who is submissive and let's Kouki enjoy her body the way he wants and dominate her during sex, Saori who appeases to our maid fetish, all the while treating our protagonist gently, and finally, Anzu who has the tsundere thing going on with her. Essentially, this anime is the complete package and in no way bland or one-dimensional as some vanilla hentai may appear to some.

As with every other form of hentai, vanilla isn't ultimately going to be everyone's favorite. It has its good and bad side, but if you're someone who is interested in checking it out, after reading this, you can decide what to do next for yourself. [en]What You Need to Know: [/en][es]Lo que necesitas saber: [/es]

  • PQube and MAGES are excited to confirm that Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon? - Infinite Combate will get a western release next year! The RPG based on the popular manga and anime series also known as DanMachi is coming to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 physically, and PC digitally in 2020!
  • Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon? - Infinite Combate is set in a fantasy realm where gods have limited their divine powers in search of excitement and to experience the hardships of the lower world. To interact with humans, each deity has founded a Familia, which are groups that adventurers can join to socialise and support each other, before they set out into the dangerous labyrinth called Dungeon.
  • One of them is Bell Cranel, the young main character of DanMachi's story. As the only follower of the Hestia Familia, he has it a bit harder than the others, but strives to improve himself!
  • The gameplay is an exciting mix between dungeon crawling with RPG elements and a visual novel-style story, including events from the first Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon? anime season and new content! Apart from the extensive Story Mode, players will be able to test their skills in procedurally-generated Extra Dungeons and find out more about other characters during Date Events.

    Characters

  • Born to a regular Austian family, she was raised by her brother Dylan. She is a kind-hearted and optimistic girl, but cursed with poverty. She has immense bad luck when it comes to money, constantly destroying things around her and as a result, has accumulated endless amounts of debt. Her dream is to become rich as an alchemist, and she often fantasizes about creating unlimited gold through alchemy.
  • Her father is a Palian noble and her mother is from a big Austian family. With such an outstanding family heritage, she came to Austia with her personal maid Winnie and was raised by her grandmother. She grew up alongside Winnie and Misty. Despite arguing a lot, the relationship between them remains close. Inspired by adventure stories, she yearns for adventure and exploration as the best treasure hunter do.
  • She has been with Gladys since childhood. She is also Misty's childhood friend. The three of them are really close. No one knows how old she is or where she's from. She named the doll in her left hand Saemon, and the other one Uemon. What awful taste in names. She also really loves explosives, and always causes trouble in combat.
