Manga fans love to lord it over anime watchers that they’ve experienced the definitive version of every story, without any unnecessary cuts or changes. They’re not always right, but sometimes there’s a glimmer of truth to their words. Today, we’re taking a closer look at five of the best/most interesting moments from manga that their anime adaptations left out. Maybe we’ll get to see them fully realized someday!

[ad_top2 class="mt40 mb40"]

5. Ryo and Most of the Other Demons from Devilman 1972

[en][information_general item1 = "Volumes" content1="39" item2="Published" content2="July 1972 – April 1973" ][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Mangaka" content1="___content1___" item2="Género" content2="___content2___" item3 = "Volúmenes" content3="___content3___" item4="Publicado" content4="___content4___" post_id="" ][/es]

The first anime adaptation of Go Nagai’s 1972 manga Devilman was the anime of the same name that released that same year. Unfortunately, it hardly resembles its source material beyond using some of the same names and characters to tell an animated tokusatsu story instead of a dark tale of demons and the horrors of xenophobia. Akira’s best friend/adversary Ryo is entirely absent, as are most of the other demons that make up the Devilman franchise’s rogues’ gallery. One thing makes up for it, though – the classic theme song that got remixed into “Devilman no Uta” from 2018’s Devilman: Crybaby.

4. Maehara, Sousuke, and Meg’s Extra Characterization Moments from Ansatsu Kyoushitsu (Assassination Classroom)

[en][information_general item1 = "Volumes" content1="22" item2="Published" content2="January 2015 – June 2015"][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Mangaka" content1="___content1___" item2="Género" content2="___content2___" item3 = "Volúmenes" content3="___content3___" item4="Publicado" content4="___content4___" post_id="" ][/es]

Class 3-E is composed of 28 students so, naturally, we can’t get to know all of them on a deep and personal level in just 22 episodes. But the manga contains extra scenes for less important students like Maehara, Sousuke, and Meg, which had to be cut from the anime for time reasons. We still enjoy these moments, though, and it would’ve been interesting to see at least one or two of them in the show itself. Maehara’s casanova attitude and Sousuke’s artistry were entirely skipped, so they feel more or less like blank slates in the anime. Such a shame!

[ad_middle class="mb40"]

3. Ilulu from Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon (Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid)

[en][information_general item1 = "Volumes" content1="13" item2="Published" content2="January 2017 – April 2017" ][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Mangaka" content1="___content1___" item2="Género" content2="___content2___" item3 = "Volúmenes" content3="___content3___" item4="Publicado" content4="___content4___" post_id="" ][/es]

Ilulu is a chaotic dragon who has a difficult time controlling her shapeshifting powers, which results in her having a petite frame with disproportionally large breasts and strange draconic features. She appears late enough in the manga that the 13-episode first season wasn’t able to work her in with the existing cast, so they left her out entirely. She’s just as sweet as the other dragons and has a memorable character arc, so we hope we get to see her when the new season comes around!

2. Donovan from Kenpuu Denki Berserk (Berserk)

[en][information_general item1 = "Volumes" content1="25" item2="Published" content2="October 1997 – April 1998"][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Mangaka" content1="___content1___" item2="Género" content2="___content2___" item3 = "Volúmenes" content3="___content3___" item4="Publicado" content4="___content4___" post_id="" ][/es]

Guts is a grizzled, musclebound titan of a man who has survived countless battles and unimaginable hardships throughout his travels, and yet he’s still a nuanced character instead of just a one-note antihero. One of his defining quirks—an extreme aversion to human touch—actually comes from a moment that has never been fully adapted in any version of Berserk. As a child, he was raped by a man named Donovan who bought him for a night from Guts’ father figure Gambino. We understand why this would be difficult to show on television, but it adds such an intriguing element to his personality that we wish it had been there regardless.

1. Adult Reborn’s Reveal from Katekyo Hitman Reborn!

[en][information_general item1 = "Volumes" content1="203" item2="Published" content2="October 2006 – September 2010"][/en]
[es][information_general item1 = "Mangaka" content1="___content1___" item2="Género" content2="___content2___" item3 = "Volúmenes" content3="___content3___" item4="Publicado" content4="___content4___" post_id="" ][/es]

Many fans agree that the anime’s choice to end after the Future arc instead of the actual manga ending was a good thing since the final two manga arcs are just okay and don’t contribute as much to Tsuna’s character development. But, because of this, one amazing moment got left out of the anime—the reveal of Adult Reborn in the flesh. Reborn looks like a baby, but he’s actually a fully-grown adult who’s been affected by a curse. During the final manga arc, he gets one shining moment to swoop in and rescue Tsuna as his adult self. We wish we could’ve experienced this glorious scene in the anime!

We also would’ve liked to see the full version of Josuke’s Cee-lo match with Rohan from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable, if only because his transparent attempts to distract Rohan are hilarious in a “stupid teenager” kind of way that we find endlessly endearing. What did you think of our list? What are some of your favorite manga moments that were absent from the anime? Have you read any of these manga? Let us know in the comments, and thanks so much for reading!

The yearning to be normal when you are exceptional isn’t as far-fetched as a problem as we tend to think. The idea of always having to perform at your best can cause a lot of stress. In her first life, Misato Kurihara understood that all too well. She was focused on studying and never had time for making friends at school; instead her friends were anime and manga. She wasn’t a shut-in NEET either, she breezed through high school and graduated. Misato is a good person; she sees a young girl about to be hit by a car and pulls the girl out of the way only to be struck and killed herself. The selfless act and the fact that the girl she saved was going on to do great things made the god of her afterlife offer her the chance at reincarnation and a wish. The overworked Misato only had one request, to be an average girl in the next world. The problem with her request came in the interpretation of the idea of average. The world she is reincarnated in has very powerful dragons and skews the idea of average for her request. She is given greater strength, magic, and natural talent at everything than a normal human. She is reborn as Adele von Ascham, a noble, and because of circumstances we won’t spoil, she has to leave that easy life behind and become a hunter, this world's version of an adventurer, under an assumed name in a neighboring kingdom. Adele, under the alias Mile, joins a party of young women dubbed Crimson Vow and finds her average life isn’t so average after all. We know you’ll love this cute and creative anime and will want to find similar anime, so we’ve compiled a list of shows that combine the adorableness, comedy and adventure just like Didn’t I Say to Make My Abilities Average in the Next Life?!

The battle against the demon lord is finally at hand and the hero’s party pulls out their big guns betting everything on a powerful magic spell. The hero of Naral Island has the demon lord cornered, the magical chant is done, the magic is fired off and something goes a little wrong. We suddenly find the hero and her party back at their first day of adventurer school with no memory of the post-school battle with the demon lord. Oh, one more thing, the demon lord time traveled with them, looks like a cute 10-year-old and has complete recollection of the hero’s quest and has become their instructor. The novice adventurers, Yusha the Hero, Seira the Priest, Mei the Mage and Fai Fai the warrior join their other classmates as they learn the ropes to monster and treasure hunting. The absolute biggest similarity between the two shows is they both bring the cute. You won’t find a cuter group of adventurers mixing it up with the monsters of their respective worlds. The art direction in both shows supplies exaggerated expressions for each of the characters that help break the fourth wall with excellent comedic effect. The nuts and bolts of both programs are similar too, except Endoro~! is not an isekai story. Mile and Yusha are both stronger than the average hero and also tend to be a little airheaded, each lacking in common sense at times. The adventurers’ parties are also both composed of cute girls who buckle down and battle it out when needed. But they can also giggle and have a slumber party by the end of the episode. We know if you love Adele and her adventures, you’ll absolutely love the adorableness and adventures of Endoro~!

You take the plot of Harry Potter, apply rule six (every fictional character has an opposite-gender counterpart) and make the gifted prodigy wizard into a completely untalented klutz and you have Little Witch Academia. Akko Kagari has dreamed of becoming a witch since childhood, despite the profession being seen as an anachronism of the past. The plucky protagonist gets into her dream school, Luna Nova Magical Academy, and begins a magical education despite having no natural ability to cast spells. Little Witch Academia is the anime for a comical Hogwartian adventure and is packed with all the ingredients that spell a good time: stern headmasters in pointy hats, beautiful tsunderes, yuri subplots, mind-altering drugs, and people turned into shrubs. The signature pliable people proportions lets you know its Studio Trigger. Akko has no talent and Adele (Mile) has loads of talent but despite the difference in their skill levels, they are both walking disaster areas. Akko with her impulsive nature and ineptitude at practicing magic tends to create problems for her and others. Adele often doesn’t know her own strength or creates massive misunderstandings due to her knowledge gained from 18 years in the modern world. The two anime both involve a tight-knit group of female cast members who create tight bonds and stand out in their specialized schools. Adele and her classmates are exceptional adventurers and passed their tests with flying colors. Akko and her friends also stand out at school, but because they are known for creating problems and school-wide catastrophes. The hijinks of Akko and her friends come with a lot of heart. If you are looking for an anime that is a bit silly and has a message about believing in one’s self you should check out Little Witch Academia.

Yuuko’s family suffers from a great curse: poverty. The misfortune they suffer isn’t simply due to the stagnating economy of Japan, either. The Yoshida family is literally suffering from a curse placed on them by the Light Clan. The curse was passed down to Yuuko and her modern family from past generations, forcing them to live in poverty as punishment for being part of the Dark Clan, aka Demons. Ancient curses aside, Yuuko lives the relatively normal life of a high school girl. Her average life, poverty withstanding, takes a devilish turn when she wakes up one morning with horns on her head. She was been chosen by her ancestor Lilith to take on the demon mantle, avenge her clan and release them from the curse by killing a magical girl. The challenge is a bit staggering considering that fellow student Momo is not only the magical girl in question, but is also super powerful and keeps wanting to protect her recently cornicle-ed classmate. We watch this unlikely pair as they form a friendship in a very cute supernatural slice of life. There are a few really good similarities between Adele’s adventures in another world and Yuuko’s otherworldly adventures in our own. The heroines in both anime are relatively normal girls, if not a bit dorky, thrust into very odd situations and react to them with an amazing amount of sanity. Despite suddenly waking up one day in the body of a ten-year-old girl from a noble family, Adele still retained her friendly and nerdy nature. Yuuko has an equally weird experience in that she wakes up with horns corkscrewed on the sides of her head like Princess Leia’s buns and doesn’t freak out -- nor do her friends for that matter. She simply accepts her fate and decides to be the best demon she can be if only to lift the curse of poverty. The shows also air in a slice-of-life format. Adele’s exploits also tend to be filled with many small adventures with tidy conclusions after 22 minutes. Yuuko’s exploits are also a slice of life as she tries, with the help of the magical girl that should be her enemy, to grow as a demon. You will tune in for the cute and stay for the quirkiness of both of these weird heroines.

Illyasviel von Einzbern lives a normal life. She goes to school, hangs out with her friends, watches anime, and loves her family. Illya’s life is boring in general, that is until a runaway magic wand named Ruby enters her life. The sentient and mischievous wand had dumped its previous owner, Rin, after becoming fed up with her constant bickering with, Luvia, the holder of Ruby’s sister wand Sapphire. Ruby gives Illya the hard sell on becoming a magical girl and when Illya wisely refuses, Ruby then tricks the schoolgirl into a contract making the average student a frilly outfit wearing overpowered preteen magical girl. It doesn’t take long for Rin to track down her eloping wand and then draft Illya into completing the mission originally tasked to her, retrieving the mysterious class cards scattered all around her hometown. The long and the short of Illya’s story as a magical girl contains all the excitement of the Fate Universe but is filled with comedy, fun, and love for a traditional magical girl series. “I want to be normal,” is the statement is echoed by the heroines in both series. Misato Kurihara/Adele/Mile not only had that request of the god that reincarnated her but she also often tries to hide the fact that she is exceptional because she simply wants to be just like every other girl. Illya struggles with balancing the idea of being a magical girl and fighting life-and-death battles and living her normal life with her family and friends. The heroines of both series are also dorks. Illya is at times naïve to a comical extent while Adele is often the dumbest smart person in the room leaving her companions to sigh in exasperation. We like both of these anime because they don’t take their genres too seriously. You’re likely to have many laugh out loud moments as you enjoy the antics of Adele and Illya.

Some guys have all the luck. The statement has never been so true as it is with the story of Shin Walford. A big portion of Shin’s good fortune came at his birth; despite being orphaned in the woods, he was discovered and adopted by Merlin Walford, the greatest mage of his day. The young Shin quickly learned magic and it isn't just because he had a skilled teacher, his memories from his past life gave him a unique ability to visualize and use magic. He does have one real flaw that becomes evident when he becomes a teenager, the great sage that raised him didn’t teach him a lick of common sense. Merlin attempts to correct the gap in his education by sending him from his remote home in the woods to a private school for mages in the capital. There the real fun begins as Shin mingles with royalty, fights bad guys, gains loads of friends, and even finds the girl of his dreams. Shin is the embodiment of the overpowered main character in an isekai anime and so is Adele for that matter. Adele understands that she is overpowered and makes a concerted effort to rein in her powers. Shin, on the other hand, has no clue he is overpowered; when he finally starts meeting other students at the school, he causes problems to great comedic effect. Adele and Shin also use the knowledge they gained in their previous lives to get a leg up on the current society they live in. Adele’s story is absolutely isekai, you constantly hear references to her old life in Japan, she even has Japanese Folktale Time with her friends. Shin, however, rarely references life in Japan and could very well be an overpowered native of the world in which he lives, making the story just simply a magic school fantasy story and not isekai. We think regardless that the fun reactions of his friends, the general likability of the cast, and the story being self-aware of its tropes make it a fun watch.

We know life can come at you fast and even more so your end of life can arrive sooner than you expect. Satoru Makami came to understand that all too well as he lay on the sidewalk bleeding out after being stabbed by a random criminal. He lamented all of the things he wanted to do in his near 40 years and never got to do. As Satoru’s body grew cold a strange voice filled his head asking him various questions until his consciousness faded. The average office worker that was once known as Satoru Makami then awakes to the strangest feeling of not being able to see but simply sensing the world around him. He discovers to his surprise he has been reincarnated as a slime. The journey of this unconventional hero is the story of how a nice guy can finish first. Satoru, who goes by the name Rimuru in is new life, may be overpowered but seems to win more battles with his pleasant personality and his earnest belief that all people and monsters can get along. A big similarity between Adele and Rimuru is they both have unique ways of looking at things rooted in their distinctly Japanese mindset. The hero and heroine both believe in the idea of the common good and how a community is better when it works together and shares sacrifice, beliefs that are in stark contrast to the new worlds they both inhabit that are filled with more Darwinian thinking. Adele and Rimuru both have winning personalities that just make you like them, especially with their cute antics.

Final Thoughts:

Heroes come in all shapes and sizes, even short, flat-chested, 13-year-old girls. Adele von Ascham aka Mile is an original as far as many isekai heroes go. She does share the characteristic of being overpowered with many isekai protagonists, she doesn’t share the pronoun “he”. We’ve found that isekai anime with a female lead are few and far between. Yes, we have some powerful female characters in isekai stories, some native to the worlds or others with the role of sidekicks or partners for a male lead. Adele is an original, she is funny, she is strong- both mentally and physically - and is a leader of her party. She carries the show and the light novels and is simply a great character that you’ll enjoy going on a journey with.

Erika is a girl who loves to have sex and proudly enjoys men’s cocks. Kazuhiro is a boy who just worked up the courage to finally confess his love for Erika. Thrilled with his confession Erika invites him to watch her get pounded by their gym teacher. Kazuhiro even agrees to record Erika’s encounters. The hentai starts out with Erika being roughly fondled by the Gym teacher in the library. He makes sure to tease her nipples in front of Kazuhiro while showing off how he roughly fingers her pussy. Before long, Erika bends over to expose her gaping vagina for the teacher’s cock. Kazuhiro watches as the man grasps onto Erikas hips and starts to ravage her body violently. Erika continues her sexcapades as the anime progresses and even ends up taking several creampies.

JK Bitch ni Shiboraretai is another entry in the jk series. This time the story starts off when a gal shows her tits and pussy to a boy in her class. She reveals that she forgot her lunch money and will have sex with him in exchange for food. The first sex scenes show several different angles of the main character being stroked and sucked off. Before long, the gal even rolls onto her back, spreading her pussy for his cock. The young man takes the opportunity and, within seconds, plunges himself into her wet vagina. He even makes sure to pump her full of hot sperm while telling her how cute she is. As the episodes progress, the duo continues to have more and more explicit sex on the school grounds.

Part two starts off with one of the girls in a school P.E. uniform riding the salaryman with her tits out. Shortly after he cums, the show cuts to the man sitting out a table while the second gal sucks him off underneath. After she finishes, she angles herself so that she can back into his cock while he’s still waiting on his food. Discussion Time

Oboro, Aizawa, and Yamada were once a trio with big goals… to start their own hero agency. However, as we learn in chapter 254 of Boku no Hero Academia, some dreams don’t always see the light of day. When a building crushed Oboro, their dreams were crushed with him. Our detective in the present, though, unleashes a bombshell on our two now pro heroes. their friend Oboro might lie in the dark fog that is Kurogiri. Due to the Nomu operations, there exists a shallow chance that Oboro was used as a core for Kurogiri and thus the villain was born. Our duo presence at the prison acts as a final effort to see if the Nomu do indeed retain their former thoughts as proven by Endeavor’s fight with a Nomu who long ago was an underground fighter. Activating his power, Eraser Head tries to talk with the now re-awakened Kurogiri. At first, the talk seems pointless as Kurogiri only remembers their encounter long ago at the UA school incident. However, as Eraser Head begins to talk more about the past Oboro, we begin to witness small signs that maybe…just maybe the detective’s comment wasn’t too off base. We even learn that Aizawa never actually expels students from the school during his initial assessment but writes it as he does to give the new students a push needed to prove their worth! Aizawa uses all of his passion leading our pro hero teacher to tears as he tries valiantly to reach out to his old friend who might now be lost to the being that is Kurogiri. Can Aizawa make his promise of them still being heroes a reality or has Oboro died truly when he was experimented on to become Kurogiri? We shall discover the reality in the upcoming chapter but for now, we need to sit back and explain to you all why reading chapter 254 is a priority!

1. Nomu’s Original Form

Nomus have always been a strange concept in the Boku no Hero Academia lore. We have learned more about how they came to be as the series has revealed bits of their creation process but never have we understood how a Nomu really acts. Chapter 254 aims to show Nomu aren’t just shapeless forms but are built from a combination of more than one body/soul. This means that every Nomu might act like an enraged puppet cut from its marionette strings but in reality, these beasts have a persona still fighting to prove its own existence. Sounds truly creepy in thought doesn’t it?

2. Aizawa’s Passion

Boku no Hero Academia has always tried to keep some pro heroes in a specific light. Aizawa from the gate has seemed to be a cool-headed hero who is strict, kind and a bit overly listless as a teacher. In this 254th chapter though, we see an Aizawa who was once a normal kid who had dreams of being a hero, meeting friends at UA and then wanting to have his own agency with the friends he considered close. We felt every tear and heartfelt yell from Aizawa in this chapter and it showed us a passion we never knew existed behind those pained eyes.

Final Thoughts

Boku no Hero Academia always loves to show us that even the pro heroes we know now aren’t fully understood by us readers. Aizawa has shown a side of himself we never before witnessed in chapter 254 of Boku no Hero Academia and that excited us. Will Aizawa be able to reach out to the Oboro from the past or has Kurogiri taken full control and now is nothing more than an advanced Nomu? Time will tell readers but for now come up with some thoughts in the comments down below! Keep stuck to our hive for even more manga chapter reviews done by us here at Honey’s Anime!

Why Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu (Legend of the Galactic Heroes) Continues to Endure

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="crunchyroll" url="https://www.crunchyroll.com/legend-of-the-galactic-heroes-die-neue-these/episode-14-demise-of-the-emperor-789274" ]

In addition to its remake, Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu—or Legend of the Galactic Heroes—has continued to endure for the past three decades. In addition to its remake, the franchise includes its original anime adaptation and its source material, the hit novel series by Yoshiki Tanaka. Some of you readers probably know Tanaka as the author of the original Arslan Senki novel series. So, what are the qualities that make this franchise endure?

It Knows How to Showcase Conflict and Challenge Our Beliefs

Whether it’s in novels, film, art, music or animation, the stories need conflict as their foundation. The conflicts(s) can be external and/or internal. Legend of the Galactic Heroes takes conflict to a grander scale like no other. In the second season of Die Neue These, it is portrayed on both sides of the galactic war. Not only do viewers get to see the external conflict between the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance, they also get to see the internal conflicts within both nations as they relate to the main characters. The external conflict is simply a war between autocracy/imperialism and democracy/republicanism, but the franchise takes this trope to new creative heights that have yet to be replicated. Pop culture traditionally portrays imperialism/autocracy as bad and democracy as good. Real-life history has more than enough examples to justify repeating this storytelling method over and over, but Legend of the Galactic Heroes is willing to do more than play devil’s advocate. Through Reinhard, the leading character representing the Empire, viewers can see how the system he lives under has been used to benefit the noble class and how it motivates him to want to change the Empire. Contrary to a majority of would-be conquerors, his quest for galactic domination is authentically for the benefit of mankind, and through Reinhard’s journey, viewers see how autocracy can actually be used for good since a ruler can enact change immediately without the approval of, lets say, legislative or judicial branches of government—which are meant to bring checks and balances—while there are those who believe that such inclusions hinder progress. It all comes down to if a ruler serves the people as opposed to the elite, then maybe autocracy can be a good thing. From the point of view Wen-Li, who represents the Alliance, he knows that democracy is heavily flawed and that it can be exploited. However, he believes it’s the best system that gives power to the people. Through these two leads, viewers can get an idea of how two different systems work for better or worse. For Reinhard, his upbringing has taught him to take everything by force as he slowly fights his way to becoming the emperor. As for Wen-Li, he is willing to work within the confines of his system’s bureaucracy knowing that they can make the wrong decisions. With neither man willing to compromise their views, a rather unique conflict arises where they earn each other’s fear and respect. The fact that Legend of the Galactic Heroes challenges this tried and true conflict between belief systems that no other art form has copied since is a true testament as to why it endures.

Relatable Events

Hong Kong’s dispute with China over their respective sovereignty has been one of the biggest news stories of 2019, to the point that it has been met with violent clashes and other international controversies. Just midway into the second season of Die Neue These, we see how certain groups within the Alliance Military have splintered from the chain of command to impose their rule on the Alliance’s home planet of Heinnesen. Due to this group imposing martial law and even admitting to limiting free speech laws on civilians, it has fired up the citizens to peacefully demonstrate at a stadium to state that they won’t be controlled. In the chaos, the soldiers that are siding with martial law open fire on the unarmed demonstrators and Jessica Edwards, a politician siding with the people protesting, is brutally killed for standing up for what she believes in. Tragically, not only do we see people dying for what they believe in in Hong Kong, but with the Syrian Kurds as well. As reported on Hong Kong, what was meant to initially be a peaceful protest, has now turned into anarchy as people are being lit on fire! Through both the Hong Kong protests and these events in Legend of the Galactic Heroes, we see how government enforcement clashing with rightfully angry and yet non-violent protestors is always a recipe for disaster.

The legendary American sci-fi author Ray Bradbury famously said that sci-fi stories are about things that can happen. Many of Jules Verne’s works when they debuted in the latter half of the 19th century were merely visions and as of 2019, mankind has achieved what his novels foretold—as we have gone to the moon and now have the internet. As to how it relates to Legend of the Galactic Heroes, it expands that notion in more ways than can be included in a book. Even centuries into the future and long gone from Earth, humans are still at war over differing ideologies. This was true long before the birth of Christ and, tragically, those reasons for conflict continue to this very day. Even if mankind migrates to space hundreds of years from now, that hunger for power or to impose one’s views on another is never going away. The lust for power is never going to go away no matter when and where mankind can go. The most tragic thing about this series is that Reinhard and Wen-Li could have been friends in another life, and this quality is ultimately why the series still holds up.

Despite the show’s title, Madoka has mostly been an observer. Watching from the sidelines, she is powerless to stop the tragedy before her. As the end approaches, Madoka must now make a decision. With her back towards Homura, we see the girl who now shoulders the world. In this final article, I’ll discuss a logical segue. If Madoka Magica is a divided world, then a discussion of character foils is important. From that context, I’ll discuss how faith is an integral element of the show and how suffering is given meaning through hope.

Foiling Characters and Themes: Establishing Context

In literature, a foil character is a character who contrasts with another, typically the protagonist. By having several distinct and contrasting qualities, it can serve a narrative function. Not only can a character’s qualities be foiled, but so can their stories and histories. In Madoka Magica, the main cast is designed around familiar ideas. In magical girl shows, color can be part of a character’s identity. Colors can indicate a character’s element such as red for fire or blue for water. Since magic is tied to one’s emotions, this goes a step further: it’s their personality. Before moving onto our main topics of faith and hope, let’s briefly discuss how Kyoko and Sayaka foil one another. Kyoko, like her element, has a fiery personality. She is one of the veteran magical girls and views Mitakihara City as her new hunting ground. Initially, she comes off as brash and rude, facing resistance from the cast. Still hurt from Mami’s death, Sayaka feels she must take up Mami’s role. To protect the city, she must become a hero. Thus, when Sayaka transforms, her design is not by chance--this is her view of justice: what a magical girl should be. She dawns a cape and sword, preferring close combat; apt due to her direct personality. However, as we later learn, Sayaka is rigid in her beliefs, resulting in her fighting other magical girls. Water can be many things: it can flow, it can change its shape, it can be transparent, and it can be reflective. However, Sayaka does not hold all of these qualities; she’s inexperienced and does not “embody water.” Although Kyoko and Sayaka initially clash, Kyoko does notice a similarity. While Sayaka does not self-reflect early on, she does reflect something. Kyoko sees in Sayaka the girl she used to be. Through this, we learn both characters foil one another. Just as Sayaka lacks the qualities of water, Kyoko “lacks the fire she once had.” Kyoko was the daughter of an unorthodox priest. In order to make his teachings spread, Kyoko wishes for his message to be heard by everyone. People flock to her father and “listen to his teachings.” While Kyoko fights against witches, she’s ignorant how her wish has stolen agency from her father’s believers. One day, Kyoko’s wish is exposed. Upon finding out, he casts Kyoko aside, believing her to be a witch. Kyoko’s story ends with her father killing his entire family, their bodies cast like fuel to a fire. This imagery makes it clear. As the sole survivor, Kyoko blames herself. She loses faith in her cause and her father’s teachings. Instead, she learns through experience that “to help others is fruitless,” a lesson that the world is teaching the cast. Thus, she chooses to live only for herself. She has lost the piety in her pyre--the faith and the fire. But something changes in Kyoko. When she sees Sayaka, she can’t help but care. Even though she lives alone, she’s had a teacher--life taught her lessons. Before Sayaka hurts herself, Kyoko extends a hand. In it, a biblical fruit to “cure Sayaka’s innocence.” Character foils help enunciate a message, establish themes, and can give direction for a character’s development. This dynamic, if brought to fruition, can help relationships grow, but in this show, growth is stunted. Before characters are ready, they are thrown into situations where their wishes are manipulated, turning their altruism against them. For most of the show, characters are not rewarded for their faith. They die for it. When Kyoko tries to save Sayaka, she does so without certainty. She does so based on faith. Her hopes are shattered when Sayaka transforms into a witch. In order to save Homura and Madoka, Kyoko takes her soul gem and clasps it, her hands in prayer. In her final moments, she regains faith, but she burns for it. The “witches” die by fire.

Foiling Further: Comparisons Between Pairs

From the previous section, we know that inexperience and experience were qualities being compared. To further add to this, Sayaka dies losing faith in humanity, but Kyoko regains it after sacrificing herself. These character qualities are not exclusive to these two. They apply to another pair. In the previous article, I explain how Homura rejects magical girl values and how camera techniques, character movement, eye imagery, and lighting allow viewers to understand and empathize with her. Through this, the article established that, although magic allows girls to better themselves and their world, magic in Madoka Magica has not changed their situation. Thus, to reiterate our last article, Homura has embodied the lessons of hopelessness. She is the antithesis of her genre. Kyoko and Homura share something in common: experience. Their experience makes them scorn their childhood naiveté: that the world was kind, that friendship mattered, that the very ideas the magical girl want to promote--they are just lies. Dreams don’t live to see the future. Just as Kyoko and Homura share a commonality, their counterparts do as well. Sayaka and Madoka are inexperienced. Sayaka died believing she lived a lie, but for the show to have hope, Madoka, the girl who still believes in good--who has faith in humanity and the world--can not lose that innocence. Thus, if Homura represents hopelessness, Madoka must represent hope. If she cannot, then all the emotions they’ve felt, every wish they’ve cherished, all the suffering they’ve endured, will all be for nothing. For a future to exist, for this generation to have hope, childhood dreams must not be squandered. The children are the future, and if they cannot dream, then their future ends in the night. For the sun to rise, there must be a light. Homura knows the future. She has observed it countless times. For her, the problem isn’t a dark and uncertain future. It’s the opposite: certainty is the problem. Thus, if the future is predetermined, then Madoka must bring back something uncertain. Madoka must believe in something despite rational proof. She must bring back faith in the future.

The Return of Hope: Reaffirming Faith in the World

In their innocence, the kind world the cast knew now seems like a lie. Emerging from that bliss and into reality is part of adolescence. However, adolescence is not just suffering, and childhood is not just pain. However, many of the characters do not have anyone to teach them otherwise. This is the case for every character--except for Madoka. Unlike the other girls, her parents still take an active part in her life. Unlike the others, she exists mostly as an observer, powerless to stop her friends from “falling further.” Unlike others, even in the darkest scenes, she is blessed by a faint light that shines upon her. Madoka is the last remaining girl who still believes in hope. Religious imagery is everywhere in Madoka Magica. From Sayaka’s serpent-like lance to Michel Angelo’s Creation of Adam in episode 11. For context, allow a brief segue into two mindsets on meaning, of which multiple exist. One mindset believes an object’s meaning is not necessarily within it; it’s not innate. Due to this, meaning doesn’t exist the moment something is born, but it is created through context like culture. According to this thought process, meaning is bestowed by people. We make meaning because we value something, therefore we can ascribe meaning to a relationship with a wedding ring. Another mindset believes meaning is innate. In some religions, meaning is bestowed through a deity, and it’s through the process of creation that meaning is given. Therefore, life is given significance because it is holy. Suffering is given meaning because it’s part of a plan. A book is sacred because it contains words from God who doesn’t just create things but creates meaning. Within the context of the show, the world does not value these girls who die--that’s the tragedy. Even if someone cares, the problem remains: it’s possible that death and suffering can amount to nothing. Humans are just cogs in a wheel meant to prolong an uncaring system. That’s the current rule of the world, and girls have died trying to change that. For the entirety of the show, Madoka has held back on her wish. Part of that is due to the cast. After being supported by Madoka, Mami wants her to join but dies soon after. Sayaka grows jealous of Madoka, her responsibility as the city’s protector denies her a childhood (romance) she wanted. Kyoko, having suffered her role, knows the loneliness that being a protector can bring and tells Madoka it’s foolish to enter her world on a whim. Homura, from the onset, never wanted Madoka to become a magical girl. Despite their best efforts, Madoka isn’t truly innocent--at least in the childhood sense. She has experienced hardships so early in her life. However, it is through these hardships that she can give meaning. She constructs meaning because she values the relationships she’s formed. Her emotions, things that magical girls should value, are the context and the proof. In the final episode, when Madoka reveals her wish, it’s not a wish devoid of experience or suffering; Madoka understands that. It’s also not a wish that is lacking innocence. Her role models have taught her its importance. She wishes a selfless wish, one that restores hope in the world. “I wish to erase all witches before they are born. All the witches in all the universes, both past and the future… With my own hands!” Kyubey, shocked by the audacity of her wish, exclaims, “If a prayer like that were granted, it could unravel the fabric of time itself… Do you truly intend to become a god?!” Madoka’s wish combines the innocence of her childhood with the wisdom of her experience. She has not just survived adolescence, she’s blossomed because of it. Her wish, her prayer for the world to become a better place, is the epitome of her genre. She reaffirms faith in the world, in people, in hope--she bestows meaning as a deity. Madoka responds, “I don’t care what I become. All those who’ve fought against witches, who believed in hope as magical girls… I don’t want to see them cry. I want them to be smiling to the very end… If any rule or law stands in the way of that… I will destroy it. I will rewrite it. That is my prayer… That is my wish.” Madoka’s wish is so selfless, she loses her body. She no longer just embodies hope. She becomes it. By valuing her friends, she learns from their suffering. From having role models, she’s become one. Madoka reflects her beliefs: magic is hope and hope is alive. In every moment a magical girl is about to lose hope, Madoka comforts them. During these sequences, heart imagery is abound: on clothing, arm bands, and soul gems. Later, in the soul gem’s reflection, girls from a previous scenes appear. Magical girls now press their soul gem to their chest. In their hearts, they know someone cares. Madoka has changed reality. Her wish as innocent as the rosebud on her bow; her influence as clear as the sky turned blue. As a magical girl, her power is vast and all-encompassing. Her power is no lie. To her, it was always true: love moves the world. And love can change it anew.

Having reached the finale, I just wanted to thank everyone who read this far and supported me. Madoka Magica has been a show that deeply impacted me, and without its story, I honestly might have never studied film. As this is the final article, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this 7-part article series. If there’s enough interest, perhaps I can cover Madoka Magica’s third movie. I look forward to the comments and hope my writing has given readers an interesting perspective on this show.

It’s exceedingly rare for any anime to completely surpass its source material in the minds of the majority, but these five shows manage to break through that barrier. Whether they rearrange a disjointed narrative into a cohesive whole, update an older work for a new generation, breathe life into the manga’s visuals in a spectacular fashion, or bring something else masterful to the table, it’s clear that these five anime are better than their manga originals. Let’s take a look at them now!

Attack on Titan is a phenomenal manga in its own right but suffers from pacing problems (especially early on) that drag the story down when it should be building up its mystery elements. Luckily, Isayama has worked closely with the WIT Studio staff to fix these issues in the anime adaptation and introduce foreshadowing for future manga events while he’s at it. Shifting Ymir’s childhood flashback in Marley to season 2, before anything about the outside world had been revealed, was just the kind of intrigue anime fans needed to whet their appetite for what comes next. If you’re looking for the definitive Attack on Titan experience, the anime is absolutely it.

Trigun’s manga and anime have a unique relationship—the anime debuted during the manga’s initial run, but came to its own conclusion after 26 episodes while the manga was on a year-long hiatus. Yasuhiro Nightow loved the anime’s ending for its expert distillation of the story’s core themes, so he took heavy inspiration from it when he wrote the manga’s ending later on. He was such a fan of the anime that he even drew filler characters into his backgrounds at every opportunity!

Almost nothing about the story itself changes between manga and anime for this series, but Studio Orange’s jaw-droppingly gorgeous 3D animation makes their adaptation a must-watch. The soft lighting highlights every facet of the gem people’s unique anatomy, while the smooth movement emphasizes their graceful posture and allows for stunning long takes during action sequences. Even the voice acting and sound design are pitch-perfect! The manga is fine for storytelling purposes, but Land of the Lustrous is best experienced in anime form.

Go Nagai’s 1972 manga Devilman was outstanding for its time, creating memorable characters and delivering poignant commentary on the xenophobia and warmongering of the era. But when it came time to modernize Devilman for a new audience, director Masaaki Yuasa actually improved the story by weaving in social media and the anonymity of the internet with the story’s hate-fueled demon panic. Not to mention the surreal animation and that slapper of a soundtrack!

Osamu Tezuka is well-known as the father of modern manga, but his attempt at a serious samurai epic with Dororo was bogged down by the irreverent comedic style of the late ‘60s. Then along comes Dororo 2019, which takes the basic characters and plot structure of the manga and tells a proper dramatic samurai story without the distracting slapstick and fourth wall breaks of Tezuka’s version. This anime is what Dororo has always longed to be, and we’re so glad that it finally exists.

Why We Can’t Wait for Megalo Box Season 2

Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.
[ad_top1 class="mb40"]

Just a few weeks prior to the drafting of this article, the announcement of a second season to 2018’s Megalo Box took fans by surprise (however, no premiere date has been confirmed). Megalo Box is an homage to Ashita no Joe, the original boxing manga which was published through the first half of the seventies. Megalo Box re-creates the original concept of Ashita no Joe by bringing it into the future as boxing in that series is under the control of powerful corporations, and without the approval of government-sanctioned athletic commissions to ensure safety. Through the first season, not only are viewers treated to entertaining fights but to relevant themes of corporatism and oppression. As we anticipate the premiere of Megalo Box season 2, we’d like to share why we’re looking forward to it!

Megalo Box Goes International and Expands the World

In addition to soccer (or football for you non-American readers), there is no sport more international than boxing! While the first season portrays Megalo Boxing as a spectacle with no age limits, medical checks, weight classes, or drug testing, its concept could have a lot of potential if the second season takes it global! The first season largely takes place in a corporate-owned mega-city where people with money can be citizens and those who can’t pay live stateless in the city’s scorching hot outskirts. While the first season does a great job of concluding Joe’s story as he becomes a local champion, outside of him, there are still many unanswered questions in relation to how the world of Megalo Box as a whole functions. A second season is a perfect opportunity to provide a better idea of what the world of Megalo Box is like beyond that city. Are there still places with democratically elected governments? Or are they rules under autocracies? Are there nations under martial law? Or are all nations privatized? One unanswered question from the first season relates to a war that happened prior to the beginning of the series. Only the fact that a war happened is mentioned and nothing is explained beyond that. Is the second season going to explain what that war was about? We’d sure like to know!

We Can Learn More About Joe

The first season excellently provides the audience with a good idea of who Joe is as a human being and what drives him to fight. Other than that, there is no elaboration on his background. How did he get into boxing? How did he meet Nanbu? We bring up these questions because the original Ashita no Joe does a great job of answering them in context to Joe Yabuki. He was a teenage orphan who had to take care of himself and he was a natural street fighter. If audiences check out Ashita no Joe, they can also see how he meets Danpei and why he sticks with him despite their difficult relationship. The first season doesn’t really portray any equivalent to these plot points so we’re expecting a second season can provide them.

More Characters!

Naturally, the core characters of Megalo Box take inspiration from the characters of Ashita no Joe. Joe in Megalo Box is obviously based on Joe Yabuki. In addition, Yuuri (Joe’s rival) is based on Rikiishi Tooru (the first main rival in Ashita no Joe); Yukiko is inspired by Youko Shiraki (though their personalities significantly differ); Sachio (a boy in Megalo Box) is a homage to another Sachio from Ashita no Joe (who is a girl); and Nanbu represents Danpei Tange, Joe Yabuki’s trainer. With Megalo Box now having the chance to continue, this is the perfect opportunity to re-introduce other characters from the original Ashita no Joe to a new audience. One notable character from Ashita no Joe that would be interesting to feature in season 2 is Carlos Rivera, Joe Yabuki’s rival in the original series’ second act. Carlos’ rivalry with Joe is friendly in nature but still has the right amount of tension to build a great fight. As for how a hypothetical fight plays out between Megalo Box Joe and Carlos; hopefully, it can equate to or even top the original fight which gives the legendary Thrilla in Manila a run for its money! One last character from Ashita no Joe that needs to be in Megalo Box is Jose Mendoza, the world champion. As the champion, it’s natural that he’s portrayed as “the man” like 16-time wrestling champion Ric Flair. He can knockout bums with just a simple one-two, or end careers by cracking skulls with his trademark corkscrew blows (while also jet flyin’, and stylin’ and profilin’!). The inclusion of someone like Mendoza would be great for Megalo Box because as the champion, he can represent the elite. Like the original Mendoza, a Megalo Box Mendoza can once again look down on his competition who represents the little guy and have that sick desire to keep them at the bottom.

With rising income gaps being reported around the world (amongst other inequality issues), Megalo Box is definitely the anime the world needs right now. With economies in some countries now tanking like with what Greece faced earlier in the decade, can this pave the way for a world like Megalo Box? While we don’t know for sure, we just can’t believe in coincidences. With what has also been occurring around the world between the end of the first season and now, a second season can use those events as motivation to continue the story and warn audiences what may come if nations don’t fix their problems. However, the idea of Megalo Boxing (or maybe an MMA or pro-wrestling version of it?) would still be cool to see in real life. For these very reasons, we can’t wait for season 2 of Megalo Box!

Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san is, without a doubt, one of the best harem anime ever made, and it rivals that of harem juggernauts like To LOVE-Ru, High School DxD, and Sora no Otoshimono. This anime has everything we want from a perfect ecchi harem series, like a huge cast of beautiful girls, a competent main character, fantastic character designs, great voice acting, tons of ecchi fanservice, and with its very high production values, Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san will age like fine wine and will be enjoyed by anime fans for the next hundred years. Yes, we’re serious, Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san is a very beautiful anime with character designs that will stand the test of time. Anyway, Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san is great and we’re here to talk about 5 ecchi scenes we think are the best in the series. We’ll include a scene from one of the OVA episodes because, well, why not?! Are you ready? Let’s go!

5. Yuuna Touching Chisaki (Episode 5)

Ever since Chisaki was saved by Kogarashi and Yuuna from perverted stuffed animals, Chisaki is curious about Yuuna—what Yuuna is like, how old she is, what she looks like. Chisaki is incapable of interacting with ghosts, so they exchange replies and tell stories through writing because Yuuna is capable of interacting with physical objects. After being scolded by the teacher, Yuuna helps Chisaki sort the books in the Social Studies Materials Room and they continue with their girl talk. To show her thanks for the company, Chisaki invites Yuuna to touch her so Yuuna can get the measurements and the type of materials used for the school uniform. Chisaki is still a newly-introduced character and in episode 5, the anime gives her another set of scenes; this time, it’s her and Yuuna touching each other. The loving caresses as their fingers slide across their bodies are nothing sexual but rather a way of getting to know each other since Chisaki can’t see Yuuna and Yuuna doesn’t want to touch Chisaki’s body without her consent. The scene is simple, sensual and it’s very hot to see two girls touching each other.

4. Attack of the Tentacle Monster (Episode 10)

The entire class of 1-4 goes out on a field trip to a beach resort and the first thing everyone does is go play on the beach with their newly-bought swimwear. Not everything is great, though—rumor has it that there is a tentacle monster lurking underwater, attacking female swimmers by taking off their clothes using its slimy tentacles. And coincidentally, Yuuna and the gang get attacked by the tentacle monster and true to the rumor—their clothes are slowly stripped away. A tentacle monster molesting girls using its slimy tentacles is a common trope or meme in Japanese culture and it’s also a cheap-but-effective fanservice scenario to show off the girls in compromising or demeaning near-hentai situations. In the case of the tentacle scene in Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san, it’s another way to show the girls naked and it’s hard to complain about looking at the girls, especially Chisaki, getting tied up by slimy tentacles. Cliched? Yes. An overused trope? Sure. But is it still ecchi? Absolutely!

3. Everyone at the Open Hot Springs! (Episode 11)

The resort hot springs scene with the entire class is very brief, lasting almost a minute, but each frame is drawn to near perfection: Yuuna, the rest of the gang, and even the girls in class 1-4 proudly show off their beautiful bodies while enjoying everyone’s company, the relaxing warm water, and an unobstructed view of the ocean at night. If you take a closer look, Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san is very beautifully-drawn, and this hot springs scene is a good example of how beautiful the anime is. No crazy antics, no screaming girls, and no guys getting tossed into the air, the hot springs scene is pure beauty and appreciation of the beautiful female anatomy.

2. Sleepover Gone Horribly Wrong (Episode 9)

Chisaki visits the Yuragi Inn to see Yuuna and to meet with the tenants of the inn. Despite her initial reluctance to visit the rumored haunted inn, Chisaki instantly becomes a wonderful friend to everyone at the inn, so much so, the girls invite Chisaki to spend the night in Yuuna’s room. But wait, aren’t Yuuna and Kogarashi share the same room, and Chisaki is basically going to sleep in a boy’s room, together with Kogarashi? Fortunately for Chisaki and her purity as a young teenage girl, Kogarashi is working overtime so he won’t be home until the next day. All is good, but Chisaki doesn’t know that Yuuna moves a lot in her sleep. And to make matters worse, Kogarashi gets home early and goes to sleep without knowing Chisaki is next to him. The sleepover scene is a great mix of character moments and ecchi moments that makes it one of the best scenes in the anime. Yuuna invites Chisaki to touch her face and Chisaki accidentally ends up groping Yuuna’s boobs because Chisaki couldn’t see ghosts like Yuuna. The next part is Koyuzu flexing her transformation powers by transforming Yuuna and Chisaki’s clothes into various costumes like a cheerleader costume and a waitress costume. The craziness continues throughout the night when the sleeping half-naked Yuuna pins Chisaki, exposing her bare butt towards Kogarashi. The sleepover scene then ends with Oboro sneaking in the room, pinning Kogarashi because she’s determined to have his babies. Yeah, we know, we’re very jealous of Kogarashi, too.

1. Kogarashi Turns into a Bottle of Body Soap (OVA 1)

On a normal early morning at the Yuragi Inn, Kogarashi is at the hot springs cleaning the bath area before the girls arrive. Koyuzu, who is half-asleep, is the first to arrive and she unwittingly casts her transformation spell on Kogarashi, turning him into a bottle of body soap. Koyuzu is the only one who can undo the spell, but she isn’t aware of what she has done. As soon as the girls prepare to take a bath, they use the only available bottle of soap available: Kogarashi himself. Kogarashi is a pure-hearted person and doesn’t take advantage of the girls who literally threw themselves at him. It’s a good thing our hero isn’t a dirty-minded pervert, but it’s also a bad thing because some scenes would’ve been better if Kogarashi didn’t look away at the sight of boobs. The scene with Kogarashi turning into a bottle of body soap is an innocent case of unavoidable circumstances where Kogarashi is experiencing hellish paradise as his liquified body slides across the breasts, nipples, butts and crotches of Yuuna, Sagiri, Yaya, and Nonko, and then slowly gets drained to the sewers when the girls rinse away the soap. Kogarashi getshis body back and it’s back to business as usual—almost getting killed by the girls after Koyuzu undoes the spell.

Final Thoughts

Final thoughts? Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san is an amazing harem anime and we can’t stress this enough. Now that it’s all said and done, what do you think of our list? Do you have a favorite ecchi scene you think deserved to be on the list? Please share your thoughts (opinions and/or lewd thoughts) in the comments section below!

Why We Can’t Wait to Watch Sailor Moon Eternal

Image may be NSFW.

[ad_top1 class="mb40"]

Sailor Moon Eternal, the third installment to the Sailor Moon remake, is scheduled to debut in Japanese theaters on September 11, 2020. What’s very interesting about the selection of this date is that it marks the 25th anniversary of when the original Sailor Moon anime debuted in North America. We can’t say for sure if this was intentional, but Sailor Moon has always been about destiny. With the remake, or Crystal, covering up to the Death Busters, we are sure that Eternal is going to continue the tradition of being a faithful adaptation of the original manga, most notably the Dream Arc, which served as the basis of Sailor Moon SuperS. So with this 2-part movie debuting next year, allow us to share with you why we can’t wait to watch Sailor Moon Eternal. That said, for anime viewers not familiar with the manga, there are a couple of spoilers below.

-- Spoilers Ahead! --

A Returning Character Designer

For starters, Kazuko Tadano, a character designer from the 90s, is coming back for Eternal. While the style of the first season of Crystal has been met with criticism, fans are hoping that the inclusion of Tadano will further bring a sense of nostalgia more in-tune with the style of the original anime. We understand that Crystal is meant to be a more faithful adaptation to Takeuchi’s original style, which looks great in manga, but sometimes certain styles don’t transition well to anime form, and Takeuchi’s style is one of them. The original designs for its time were the ultimate gateway for international fans into the world of anime and Japanese pop culture. It introduced them to the big eyes, sweat drops, pointy chins, outrageous hairstyles, and school uniform fashion. Tadano’s style for the original anime was uniquely Japanese and yet universally appealing, which is why we should be glad she’s back and that she can bring back that appeal to Eternal.

Return of Moonlight Densetsu?

When it came to the original Sailor Moon’s domestic and international identity, it had to have its iconic theme song, Moonlight Densetsu. As the 90s series was broadcasted in other nations around the world, even the theme song got a respective adaptation. Granted, the content of the lyrics in each language was different but the melody was still faithful to the original Japanese even in the North American English version. Moon Pride by Momoiro Clover Z, Crystal’s theme song works as a generic idol song but as a theme song, it just doesn’t have the same international appeal as Moonlight Densetsu. So, what makes us speculate that Moonlight Densetsu is returning? The teaser video played a melody of it and if it’s willing to go out of its way to play it beyond the sake of getting our attention, then it better damn well be in the movie! In addition to Moonlight Densetsu, it would also be nice if Eternal finds a way to include Rashiku Ikimahou and Watashi Ni Naritakute, the original ending themes to SuperS for good measure!

The Amazon Quartet

While the Amazon Quartet were introduced halfway into the original anime to SuperS as another sub-group of villains, their true identities in the original manga were NEVER revealed in the anime! So who were they? They also happen to be Sailor Senshi, more specifically Sailor Senshi who assist Chibi Moon in the future! They play a role after the Dream Arc as the Senshi fight Sailor Galaxia, and hopefully, that part of the original manga will get an anime adaptation.

While we know for certain that the voice cast of the Crystal series is back, in addition to Mitsuishi Kotono, fans would like it if the rest of the 90s voice cast came back as well. They had such amazing chemistry but we understand that voice cast was meant to represent a more comedic Sailor Moon in comparison to the more mature story the manga portrayed. Can the original voice cast represent the original manga? Considering their resumes, we’re positive they can. However, we’re positive fans can make due. In the meantime, fans of the manga can enjoy the Dream arc in movie form while anime fans can enjoy the plot of SuperS with some new twists (which we’ve already spoiled).

If you’ve followed my writing, then you’re probably aware of my interest in media, in particular, film. While this interest blossomed later in my life, one passion has stayed with me before and after college. Fighting games were my childhood hobby. From the early days of Street Fighter II: Turbo to my current game of Blazblue Cross Tag Battle, I’ve competed in so many fighting games that I barely remember them all. Throughout my years within the fighting game community, I’ve built relationships that would change my outlook on life. What seemed like a mere hobby became a part of my identity--an aspect of my life that drove its self-improvement. As a change of pace from my normal writing, I wanted to do a less formal article, discussing aspects of fighting games I enjoyed and hopefully inspiring others with my thoughts. While I still do stream fighting game events, I’ll leave those ideas for another article. For now, I hope you enjoy my musings on one of my favorite passions.

Self-Expression: Finding Yourself Through a Character

A fighting game can be appealing in several ways; one of the most important is its cast. Fighting game developers understand this and go out of their way to make trailers to showcase a new character. At times, developers will borrow characters from other franchises and put them into their own game. Tekken 7, Mortal Kombat 11, and Smash Smash Brothers Ultimate are perfect examples. In fighting games, a character is a mixture of visual design, lore, and gameplay. At their best, characters can become vessels for self-expression. Due to this, it’s not unheard of for players to form an attachment as they spend hours learning and developing their personal style on a character’s tactics. When a fighting game system allows for nuance, players who choose the same character can be distinguished. People from different backgrounds can apply their own experiences, making for radically different approaches to the same character. Speaking from personal experience, I think of fighting games as a conversation. When players choose certain decisions in a match, they are saying something about how they approach the game. A player who consistently hits me out of the air (uses an anti-airs attack) is saying I cannot jump and attack them. A player who chooses to do an invincible attack on their wake up could be nervous or is trying to tell you to bug off and give them space. It gets even more interesting when a player is trying to throw you off by making decisions they wouldn’t normally do. In these cases, you have to understand if they are “lying” in their conversation and will revert back to their normal style or they have adapted to your style with an effective tactic. From my perspective, each decision has a message and allowing for this nuance is what makes fighting games fun.

The Learning Process: What Makes You Tick

Fighting games are a physical, emotional, and mental endeavor. To perform a combo and react to your opponent requires muscle memory and visual awareness (physical). Being able to keep oneself motivated or calm even after a loss requires you to control your feelings (emotional). Lastly, deducing the solution to a tactic and being able to apply the solution is problem-solving (mental). In a strange sense, I’m reminded of the martial arts films I adored as a child. The goal behind fighting games is to understand your opponent, but more importantly, yourself. When you play fighting games, it’s important to understand your learning process. Some might learn better through touch or visuals. Others might do better with narrative learning (creating a story to help one’s memory). Some might do better learning through sound. Understanding your learning style helps you solve problems by approaching in a way that fits you. One example comes to mind. I was having a conversation with a basketball coach, and I asked him how he was able to play so well in fighting games--specifically, why was he able to notice ideal spaces he should control? What came next was his explanation: zone defense. In basketball, zone defense is when players are assigned a specific region of the court. By inhabiting this area of the court, their job is to control any opposing player that enters into that area. By thinking of fighting games as a “series of zones,” this basketball coach was able to play fighting games that best fit him.

The Social Aspects: the Community

In the previous sections, it was discussed how fighting games can make you familiar with yourself. However, that process is not exclusively within the game; it’s also outside of it. The fighting game community, or the FGC as it’s called, is a diverse and openly social community Each competitive game not only has nuance in gameplay but nuance within its community. While in other competitive games such as the MOBA genre, different games will not be in the same tournament, it’s common within the FGC to have multiple different fighting games held at a venue. This close proximity allows players to learn from one another, interact, and converse with people from all around the world. This social aspect of the FGC is one of its greatest strengths. Unlike other Esports events, the fighting game community is often run by members within it, creating a closeness, not just with its players, but the commentators, event organizers, streamers, and audience. While an important part of fighting games is competing, it is hardly only about winning. So much of the genre is about the journey, the self-discovery, and the relationships you make along the way.

By channeling my focus into fighting games, my desire for competition lead to a better understanding of myself. While it started out as a simple hobby, my time with the FGC lead to a flourishing social life that stayed with me well beyond college. Hopefully, this short article has inspired your interest in the genre and perhaps more articles of this nature will come in the future.

Why We Can’t Wait for Netflix Baki Season 2

Image may be NSFW.

[ad_top1 class="mb40"]

In 2018, Baki—the long-running MMA manga by Keisuke Itagaki—finally got a new anime series on Netflix. Picking up where the 2001 series leaves off, Baki and his former opponents must now face a ragtag group of escaped death row inmates from around the world who lie, cheat, and steal to the point that it would make wrestling icon Eddie Guerrero (who was notorious for cheating) proud. While a new season has been confirmed, we have yet to hear of a premiere date. As we anticipate its next installment, we’d like to share why we can’t wait for the next season of Netflix’s Baki!

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

The Stakes Are Higher

If any of you readers saw the 2018 season, then you know that Baki’s life is now in grave danger due to getting poisoned in the concluding fight. In order to get the cure he needs, he has to win the Raitai, an underground martial arts tournament in China that makes the Kumite in Bloodsport look like a schoolyard brawl. This means that the next arc is adapting the Great Chinese Challenge Saga as Baki teams up with his fellow Japanese fighters, along with America’s greatest, as they face China’s mightiest warriors. Due to Baki’s condition, the stakes are higher as he must compete with much of his strength depleted. Once that’s over, audiences who are already familiar with the manga are going to be treated to one of the franchise’s greatest fights in anime form!

Ali, Jr.

Upon the final act of the first season, Ali, Jr., the son of boxing legend Muhammad Ali in the world of Baki, is finally introduced, and like real-life Ali Junior, he floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee. As for fans whose exposure to Baki is exclusively through the anime, they can come to the conclusion that Baki and Junior are bound to throw down at some point. When the next anime series begins, they’ll start off as allies as they fight against the Chinese and once that’s over, they can finally get down to business (aka the Godlike Clash of the Kids Saga). The good news is that Ali, Jr. is going to have some considerable screen time to hype him up so audiences have plenty of chances to see how cool he is in action.

The Kaioh’s

Through the first season of the Netflix series, audiences learn that Kaioh, or meaning “sea king,” is a title given to marital artists by an elite group of Chinese masters regardless of their backgrounds. As Baki’s journey into becoming the world’s strongest fighter brings him to China, he and his allies have the chance to face opponents who have obtained that rank. Like many in Baki’s cast, each Kaioh has a unique gimmick to make them stand out and add something exciting to the series. Some are a repeat of gimmicks that have been done before but are given a fresh twist to knock audiences out of their socks!

More Old School MMA Action

What makes Baki appealing is its explosive action. It was Mixed Martial Arts long before the sport even existed! The original manga debuted around October of 1991, and the Ultimate Fighting Championship held its first event two years later! While MMA has been rapidly progressing these past 25 years (to the point that the sport has a women’s division, which took professional boxing and basketball decades to achieve!), Baki is still in-tune with old school MMA. While today’s athletes need to know how to combine striking, wrestling, and submissions, Baki is still about one style versus another, just like the original UFC fights. How does Karate measure up against Judo? Who wins between an Aikido black belt and a Yokozuna, a Grand Champion of Sumo? Or what happens when the respective heavyweight champions of boxing and pro-wrestling collide (The 1976 fight between Muhammad Ali and Antonio Inoki doesn’t count)? As we already saw in the old UFC fights, those questions were finally answered. However, Baki still stays true to its roots and can deliver high-octane action! As the series begins to show the insanity of the bouts in the Raitai (and after), some would wonder if the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency should test this anime or the original manga for performance-enhancing drugs!

Beyond the Great Chinese Challenge and the Godlike Clash of the Kids arcs, we hope to see more of the manga’s wildest stories get an anime adaptation. One character manga fans would love to see in anime form is Pickle, an unfrozen caveman with FREAKISH strength! As it relates to our prior suggestion that the USADA should test this series for performance-enhancing drugs, Pickle is the ultimate reason for that! What he can do is just off the charts and his presence provides the series’ most incredible fights! While we admit we’re getting ahead of ourselves by bringing up Pickle, we’re hoping that the Netflix Baki can eventually get to that point in the series and provide fresh and familiar audiences that brand of excitement that oozes high levels of testosterone (and hopefully get Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg to provide commentary as an optional track)!

Bikini Warriors is just a simple anime with one goal in mind: to sexually arouse its viewers with a bunch of female RPG character-class stereotypes doing stupid things that lead to them screwing up for those boob and crotch shots. Zero story, zero character development, and the main characters have almost zero personality, Bikini Warriors is the type of anime you watch in between shows for that comedic or uplifting intermission break. Don’t get us wrong here, we love Bikini Warriors for what it is! And we love the show so much, we made this Top 5 list! Before we begin, though, the Honey’s Anime Top 5 Bikini Warriors Ecchi Scenes will be based on the Hyper Sexy version of Bikini Warriors episodes 1-12, the special episode and the 5-episode OVA. What is the Hyper Sexy version? It’s basically Bikini Warriors with less bikini and more ecchi stuff… Stuff that skirts the line between hentai and non-hentai. Now that’s out of the way, let’s look back at the best scenes from an anime people rarely talk about!

5. The Journey’s End (Episode 12)

Episode 1 of Bikini Warriors has set the tone for the entire series with its healthy serving of ecchi fanservice. The ride gets crazier when our heroines end up in compromising situations like their clothes getting melted off by a tentacle monster, getting molested by a horny dog, stripped completely naked by the townsfolk after the heroines looted the town for gold, items and equipment, and almost sold their chastity to a perverted mayor, just to name a few instances. Bikini Warriors has practically thrown every lewd scenario conceivable at the viewers and, at this point, anything else will label the anime as hentai. On episode 12, Bikini Warriors did the impossible: Fighter, Mage, Dark Elf, and Paladin are lesbians after all, and they’re not afraid to show it! Episode 12 is a montage of various scenes of our heroines conquering villains, slaying demons, ending rivalries, and saving the world from the Demon King. And in between these random flashing moments, we see Fighter lovingly caressing the breasts of Paladin, Dark Elf sensually licking Fighter’s erect nipples, and Dark Elf hungrily munching Paladin’s blonde carpet. Episode 12 is a big WTF moment and the lesbian sex scenes were a great way to end the pre-OVA series. Again, these scenes are only available in the Super Sexy version.

4. The Legendary Bikini Armor (Episode 15)

Fighter, Mage, Dark Elf, Paladin, Hunter, Valkyrie and Cleric finally reach the realm of the divine where God lives. Impressed by the bravery of our warriors, God bestows upon them the most powerful equipment known: the legendary bikini armor! But wait, why are our heroines suddenly gone naked? Where is the legendary bikini armor? God says He has already given them the armor and its special property is that it is only invisible to idiots. Wait, really? Well, God doesn’t lie, so our intrepid heroines go back to town to show off their new powerful armor! Yeah… You can easily tell who the idiots are here because our heroines are walking around town completely naked and it takes them a long time to figure out God just pulled a very perverted prank on them.

3. My Body is Moving on its Own! (Episode 13)

Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.
[sourceLink asin="B01ETJH20I" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]

Our daring heroines defeat a powerful boss sorcerer, but before the sorcerer breathes his last, he casts a powerful curse on Fighter and Dark Elf. Our heroines later ignore the curse because nothing happened since then. It was probably a failed spell that was hastily conjured up by a dying sorcerer. The curse did eventually manifest when our brave heroines were looking around a busy street for a place to stay. Is it a curse that drains one’s life force? A transformation spell that turns the afflicted into a monster? Nope. It’s a spell that takes control of the bodies of Fighter and Dark Elf and forces them to molest anyone who is in close proximity (i.e. Mage and Paladin). Well, it’s safe to assume that sorcerer was into very kinky stuff. Episode 13 is an extra episode exclusively available on Blu-ray and, man, it definitely one-upped episode 12 because the girls were literally having sex in front of many people. Fighter slides her fingers deep inside Paladin’s nether regions and Dark Elf digs her tongue deep into Mage’s blossoming flower. Oh boy, oh boy… It’s actually very hard to describe this scene because it’s giving us lewd thoughts and kills any coherent logical thinking… *ahem* The best part of episode 13 is when our masochist Paladin goes back to the boss room, looking for the molestation spell. Yeah, Paladin really likes being defiled and humiliated, and having the spell at hand is pretty convenient, in all honesty.

2. Hunter and Valkyrie at the Inn (Episode 14)

Valkyrie and Hunter visit a town and prepare to settle in for the night by renting a room at the local inn. The two will be sharing the same room with another bikini-clad heroine named Cleric and the three get along just fine. What Cleric doesn’t expect was that Valkyrie and Hunter are a couple and she can’t sleep while the two are having passionate lesbian sex next to her. Valkyrie and Hunter were potential recruits for our main characters, Fighter, Mage, Paladin and Dark Elf, but the two ended up forming a party of their own because they like each other. A few episodes later, Valkyrie and Hunter show up and this episode is great at showing them off their personalities, with and without their clothes. The only problem with this scene is probably Cleric not joining them for a threesome.

1. The Black Knight Chuunibyou (Episode 17)

Bikini Warriors pokes fun at RPG tropes like how it’s (supposedly) normal to break into someone’s home and loot the place for potions, gold and equipment, and that the bikini-type armor offers more protection than regular full-body armor. Black Knight, a boss character, acts like an edgy chuunibyou who sees everything around her like it’s a video game and sees encounters as scripted events with one or two possible outcomes. After Fighter trips and grabs Black Knight’s boobs, Black Knight immediately assumes she triggered an event of her getting raped by her opponent. The funny part is, everything is in Black Knight’s head and she continues her delusion by narrating her sexual demise, explaining every lewd moment down to the last nasty detail. With so many graphic lesbian sex scenes, it boggles the mind how Bikini Warriors is still not classified as a hentai anime.

Final Thoughts Phew, Bikini Warriors was a wild ride. Yeah, it sucked each episode is 4 minutes long, but in return, each episode is filled to the brim with ecchi and yuri fanservice. Bikini Warriors will not win any awards for great writing and story, but it did what it set out to do—make an enjoyable fanservice anime. So yeah, what do you think of our picks, and did you enjoy Bikini Warriors? We would love to hear from you, so please, leave your thoughts down in the comments section below! By Antoine Rizal

[Anime Vs. Manga] Boku no Hero Academia (My Hero Academia)

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="viz" url="https://www.viz.com/my-hero-academia" ]

To celebrate the recent premiere of My Hero Academia’s fourth season, we thought it’d be a good opportunity to bring back our Anime Vs. Manga series of articles. Based on the manga by Kouhei Horikoshi, My Hero Academia takes place in a world where 80% of the population has superpowers, or “quirks.” Upon the beginning of the series, All Might is considered one of his time’s greatest heroes and is looked up to by all, including the series’ main character, Izuku Midoriya. Unfortunately, Izuku is part of the 20% that doesn’t have a quirk despite both of his parents having one. After a chance encounter with All Might, and with All Might being touched by Izuku’s resolve to wanting to become a hero, he decides to pass on his quirk, One For All, to Izuku as it gives him the first step in becoming the hero he wishes to be. So beyond the synopsis, what are some notable differences between both versions?

Pop Culture References

In the original manga, My Hero Academia loosely portrays contemporary pop culture references. As the first chapter provides exposition that its world is full of heroes, it shows a silhouetted image of Spider-Man, Wolverine, Batman, and Ultraman. It’s only natural that due to rights issues, this particular scene is omitted in the anime. When the prospect students of UA take their practical exam in the manga, Present Mic explains that the test is exactly like Super Mario Bros. by even name dropping the iconic game! The explanation of the test conditions also uses silhouetted images of Mario, goombas, and koopas to represent the rules. As any of you readers can guess, the anime removes these explanations and keeps things simple and direct by replacing them with robots to explain the system of the exam.

Bakugo Doesn’t Like Smoking (?)

Another notable scene removed in the anime version that is brief but significant in the manga is when Bakugo sees his friends smoking, and they invite him for a puff. At this time, Bakugo (along with Izuku) is finishing his junior high years and is hoping to get into UA. Despite how on-edge the character always is, this scene from the manga shows he’s capable of restraining himself. He refuses to smoke because if they get caught, it can ruin his chance of getting into UA. Considering that Japan’s modern TV standards censor Jotaro (from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure) smoking on a program that airs at 1 am (keep in mind they censor him smoking because he’s forgettably 17), the studio couldn’t adapt that respective scene for the anime as it portrays minors smoking (keep in mind that it’s still ok for Sanji to smoke on One Piece, which airs on Sunday mornings!). While this removal may not seem like a big deal, the significance of this scene demonstrates that Bakugo can show his better qualities and that he’s serious about getting into UA.

All Might Training Izuku

Another notable difference we’d like to point out is when All Might and Izuku start their relationship, and this relates to when All Might is training Izuku after their encounter. Of course, All Might wants to see not just what Izuku is made of physically, but spiritually and mentally as well. In the anime, he uses a lot of positive reinforcement to motivate Izuku and is more sympathetic to him when he struggles. In the manga, All Might isn’t exactly negative or hostile towards him, but he’s much stricter on him and pushes him even harder compared to the anime, like he’s Rocky Balboa’s coach.

Extended Scenes/Arcs

The anime tends to extend certain scenes or arcs, and one of the most notable extensions are the interactions between Izuku and Uraraka, which aren’t as emphatic in the manga. A good portion of the dialog they share that’s exclusive to the anime is obviously meant to provide romantic tension. Another extended scene is the introduction of Tenya’s brother, Tensei. In the manga, he’s already crippled by Stain upon his introduction, but the anime offers more of Tensei as we get to see him engage in heroic duties. It makes the audience feel sorrier for him when he’s decommissioned and these extended scenes allow audiences to understand Tenya’s anger more internally. One of the last extended scenes we want to share takes place during the provisional license exam and it relates to Shoto and Momo. In the manga, Shoto fights some unknown opponents off-panel but in the anime, he fights students from another school who have the gimmick of being ninjas. Another scene in this arc that is exclusive to the anime is Momo’s fight with the young ladies of the Seiai Academy. Lastly, there is Froppy’s episode in season 2, which happens to have been a filler, meaning it was never in the manga.

While certain things do play out differently between both versions, by no means do these differences affect the outcome or the direction of the story. However, some of the differences do offer a different sense of emotional impact and a fresher perspective. Other than that, about a good majority of the anime excellently adapts the manga, but the original series still has exclusive qualities fans can enjoy such as the pop-culture references which perfectly fit the tone. Either way, we feel that it’s best that audiences try both versions regardless of how trivial or significant some of the changes are.

5 Most Creative Fire Powers in Enen no Shouboutai (Fire Force) 1st Cours

Fire is, naturally, an essential element in the world of Fire Force. Spontaneous human combustion causes people to transform into flaming monsters out of nowhere, which can only be destroyed by the pyrotechnics of the Fire Force Brigade. They all use fire in one way or another, but their powers still feel vastly different because they explore the far reaches of what fire can do. Today, we’re taking a look at the 5 most creative fire powers in this series; from plasma to trajectory control to freezing and more, it’s amazing to see what Atsushi Okubo has come up with!

[ad_top2 class="mt40 mb40"]

5. Arthur Boyle’s Plasma Sword

The delusional “knight” Arthur Boyle has the rare ability to heat his flames into a plasma state, which he uses to weld objects together, generate electricity, and wield what is essentially a lightsaber in battle. Something tells us that he could be even more creative with his plasma powers, but he’s far too invested in his knightly fantasy to explore further possibilities.

4. Lieutenant Hinawa’s Bullet Control

The stoic lieutenant of Company 8 doesn’t need a flashy ability to get the job done. He can manipulate the ignition element within his guns to control the speed and trajectory of the bullets they fire, allowing him to fire non-lethal shots and hit targets that would otherwise be at impossible angles. When fighting alongside his comrades with more visually stunning powers, Hinawa’s bullets fly under the enemy’s radar and easily take out unsuspecting opponents en masse.

3. Benimaru Shinmon’s Flaming Matoi and Hand Sword

The fiercely traditionalist captain of Company 7 is a hybrid second- and third-generation pyrotechnic, meaning that he can ignite his own flames like Arthur but also control external fire like Hinawa. He uses his company’s matoi poles (traditional Japanese flags used to signal the locations of fires) as spear-like weapons and flying broomsticks, and he’s even adapted a martial arts form called “iaido” to utilize the flaming blade that he produces from his hand. There’s a good reason he’s thought to be the strongest soldier in the entire Fire Force!

2. Princess Hibana’s Clematis Flowers and Heat Syncope

Hibana specializes in enveloping an opponent’s body in heat and overwhelming them with small injuries that ultimately bring them down. She uses her ability to create beautiful firey flowers called “Clematis” to cover her enemies in small burns, which has proven to be very effective at cutting down multiple Infernals at once. She can also induce heat syncope (fainting from severe heat) with just a harsh look in her opponent’s direction. Good thing she’s on Shinra’s side now!

1. Karim Flam’s Thermoacoustic Refrigeration

It seems impossible for someone to use fire powers to create ice, but Karim defies all expectations. He uses a tuba-like weapon to absorb flames, turn them into sound energy, and cycle them repeatedly until they come out the other end as solid ice. He describes his thermoacoustic refrigeration as being similar to how air conditioners and freezers cool down hot air from their surroundings, which leaves us in amazement at how creative Okubo must’ve been to turn such a mundane phenomenon into an exciting anime ability.

Final Thoughts

We also love Shinra’s flaming feet, Maki’s adorable “Sputter” creatures, and Tamaki’s “nekomata” ability. We can’t wait to see more creative fire powers in the coming episodes this season—we’re sure they’ll be even wilder than the ones we’ve seen so far! What did you think of our list? Did we miss any of your favorite abilities? Are there any fire powers from the manga that you’re excited to see adapted? Let us know in the comments, and thanks so much for reading!

Short-length anime series are a curious phenomenon and a lot of them are so obscure, they’re very hard to find in popular streaming sites like Crunchyroll and Funimation. And we probably, sort of, kind of know why: they’re essentially hentai titles and these streaming sites don’t do hentai. These so-called otome hentai shows have at least 2 versions—the all-age and hentai version—and the ones we see online are the all-age version with the sex scenes stripped out, resulting in their very short runtime around 3-4 minutes per episode. But these short-length anime shows have their purpose and we argue (and we’ll continue to argue) they’re the perfect intermission anime during long anime marathon sessions. One of these short-length, stripped-down otome hentai titles is XL Joushi., a short romantic comedy about a girl reviewing condoms and her coworker/boss who is more than happy to test them out for her. And we know, XL Joushi. is extremely short and we all want to see more, so we’re here to help you out with that! In this list, Honey’s Anime will count down 6 anime titles that share the same themes and elements from XL Joushi. and hopefully, these titles will satisfy that itch.

College student Kominami Shizuka attends a college mixer with her friend and meets new people, especially handsome college guys. Things don’t turn out so well for Shizuka because of her shy and innocent demeanor so she goes into the empty hallway to get some air. There, Shizuka encounters the most beautiful woman she ever laid eyes upon—Kirishima Ryou. The two get along and after a few drinks, Ryou escorts the tipsy Shizuka back to her apartment. But wait, what’s this? Ryou is interested in Shizuka? Oh man, lesbian action incomi—Wait, is that a bulge on Ryou’s skirt…? Is Ryou a guy in women’s clothing?! One of the common traits in these otome hentai titles, all-age version or not, is that the male love interests are quite good-looking and they’re very assertive. Skirt no Naka wa Kedamono Deshita. and XL Joushi. are romance anime where the main female leads end up sleeping with handsome men because the men are quite horny. Ryou is madly in love with Shizuka and the way he expresses his love towards her is rather perverted so Shizuka always tries to reject his advances because she only wishes to do these things with the one she loves. The relationship between Saki and Keisuke is, say, purely professional—Both have sex using the various types of XL condoms. Practical usage of condoms is the most objective way to review the condoms and Saki and Keisuke were so into it, they end up having sex all the time. Keisuke has a crush on Saki, but Saki doesn’t see Keisuke as someone to get into a relationship with.

Fujihashi Ryou woke up to see her apartment on fire. Luckily, the fire department is quick to arrive and she is saved by a brave fireman who busts through the burning building. To Ryou’s surprise, the fireman is her childhood friend, Mizuno Souma! Since Ryou is temporarily homeless, she is staying in Souma’s apartment for the time being, and that spells bad news because not only are a man and a woman living under the same roof, but Souma has a crush on Ryou and he’s not afraid to show it. The relationship between Saki and Keisuke, at first, is pure lust—Keisuke has a crush on Saki and his testosterone gets the best of him and forces himself on Saki once he finds out Saki has a huge stash of condoms. Saki and Keisuke slowly come to terms with their feelings and realize that, well, having sex with someone they love is a great feeling. Ryou and Souma’s relationship is also similar with Souma taking advantage of Ryou who is staying in his apartment. Souma has a crush on Ryou since childhood and his way of expressing his emotions is mainly through lust—which you’ll completely understand because Souma is so filled with testosterone, his muscle mass makes him as big as a bulldozer.

Satou Ichirou accidentally locks himself with his teacher, Kojima Kana, in the men’s bathroom. Ichirou didn’t expect his teacher to be doing her business in the men’s bathroom, but here we are, it’s one of those convenient anime plot twists or something like that. Anyway, ever since that incident, Ichirou continues to bump into Kana-sensei in awkward situations and the two begin their forbidden student-teacher relationship. If you’re a casual anime viewer, chances are you’ll end up checking out the all-age version of Nande Koko ni Sensei ga!? in Crunchyroll. XL Joushi. is a romantic comedy anime where the main character gets into awkward situations with her love interest. Saki does something silly, it gets the attention of Keisuke and they both end up in a kinky situation. Rinse and repeat. Nande Koko ni Sensei ga!? follows the same pattern but the difference is the guys are the ones doing something silly and end up in kinky situations with their female teachers. There are no actual sex scenes in the Blu-ray version of Nande Koko ni Sensei ga!?, but it makes up for it in a ton of ecchi scenes that aren’t restricted by the 3-4 minute episode runtime like XL. Joushi.

Fukatani Mio is at a high school reunion party and out of all her former classmates, Mio has set her eyes on one person—her high school crush Kujou Takahide. “Is he single? Should I talk to him and chat about their time back in high school?”, she thought. Unfortunately for Mio, Takahide has discarded any worldly desires and is now a monk. But is this truly the case, though? After Takahide escorts Mio back to her apartment, Takahide shows his true feelings for Mio. If there’s one thing to learn from watching shorts like XL Joushi. is if you’re planning to get drunk in gatherings like parties or reunions, you should go with a friend you trust, or, if you’re a woman, go with a girl-friend. Otherwise, you’ll end up getting escorted to your apartment by hunky men who secretly have a crush on you and will take the opportunity to sleep with you. But then again, that friend of yours may still take advantage of you… such is the case with Mio placing her trust in her former classmate and now-monk, Takahide. In XL Joushi., Saki gets escorted home by her boss Keisuke after a night of drinking and Keisuke ends up forcing himself on Saki because, well, what else would a guy do when he sees a girl’s room filled with boxes of condoms? XL Joushi. is very straightforward, even in the hentai version, and if you wanted more foreplay before the actual sex, Souryo to Majiwaru Shikiyoku no Yoru ni… is something to check out. Oh and is it just us, or are the main characters in otome hentai mostly gingers?

Tsukishima Souta and Yuzuki Aoi from the volleyball club are constantly at each other’s throats and no matter how hard they try, they can’t seem to get along. One day, Aoi and the entire female volleyball team go to a popular bathhouse famous for its traditional massages, and interestingly enough, the bathhouse is managed by Souta’s family. Now here’s the kicker: the head massager, Souta’s dad, is having some back pain problems and tells Souta to take his place. Now in charge, Souta disguises himself and enters the women’s bath and the first one to ask for a massage is none other than Aoi herself. It’s payback time! In all honesty, thanks to the extremely short episodes, XL Joushi. has little to talk about, the anime is very easy to break down and we can pick several shows that have the same romantic-comedy-at-the-office criteria, like, say, Working!! and Servant x Servant. But since the all-age version of XL Joushi. is basically an otome hentai without the sex scenes, it’s only fair to compare the anime to other titles from the same category. Araiya-san!: Ore to Aitsu ga Onnayu de!? is another romantic comedy anime short that is aimed mainly for the female audience. Both shows feature a female main character getting into awkward and lewd situations with a guy who doesn’t pussy out. Saki’s sexual encounter with Keisuke was an accidental one-night-stand, but Saki soon enjoys her time with Keisuke and the two end up as a couple and enjoying sex more. Aoi has a crush on Souta and after she finds out Souta was the same guy who gave her that sensual massage at the bath, Aoi’s body starts craving for Souta’s touch. And after bumping into each other several times, the two fall in love and their relationship goes from touching Aoi’s body to sex.

College student and part-time worker Aikawa Sousuke is living on the first floor of a run-down apartment complex and his life is pretty much unremarkable—he gets home, eats, sleeps, and heads out the next day. Sousuke’s not complaining because the rent is cheap, it’s not far from his college and workplace, and the manager of the apartment is quite the beauty. Things get crazy when the tenant from the 2nd floor, the striving actress Unyuu Sunao, falls through the ceiling and, get this, lands crotch first on Sousuke’s dick! Yeah, you read that right. Romance in seinen stories is different than shounen or shoujo romance stories because the characters tend to be older and already working, or at least still struggling to finish college. XL Joushi. and Joshiochi!: 2-kai kara Onnanoko ga... Futtekita!? are seinen stories about adults finding love at their workplace or anywhere other than school, and, sometimes, a relationship starts not from the girl confessing her feelings to the boy. Adults have more freedom in having a relationship and sex is sometimes a necessity in their stressful lives. Saki gets pressured by her demanding job sometimes and spending time with Keisuke, whether she wants to or not, lifts the weight off her shoulders. Sunao is very busy with her job as an actress and the landlady Yuki is single because she’s busy managing the apartment complex, and Sousuke is the only one that can give them that needed sexual release.

Final Thoughts

And there you have it, folks! XL Joushi. and the rest of these otome hentai titles exist because there’s an audience for them. And if you want a more kinky experience, you can always check out the uncut version of XL Joushi. and the added sex scenes will give you as whole new experience. But don’t worry, otome hentai essentially cater to women so you get more sensual scenes, more hunky boys, and zero fat ugly sweaty men and abuse.

In the solid Fall 2019 lineup, we have Tokunana, or Special 7 (actual title is way too long to type). So what does it take to make the ultimate police force, besides regular humans? How about adding in an elf, a vampire, a homunculus, and a dwarf? It’s certainly not what anyone would expect, but that’s the truth about Special Unit 7. Their newest recruit is Detective Seiji Nanatsuki, a regular human who decided to become a detective when he was saved by one when he was a teenager in a terrorist attack. Motivated by a strong sense of justice, he’s enthusiastic to be a part of this ragtag group of renegade cops and protect Tokyo! In addition to the insanity it has to offer, allow us to tell you why you NEED to watch Special 7!

Helps Contribute to the Advancement of the Reverse Isekai Genre

The isekai genre is without a doubt one of the most commonly used plot devices in anime and manga. Though we’re getting a lot of them these days, the genre goes back nearly 40 years to lets say Yoshiyuki Tomino’s Aura Battler Dunbine. Ever since GATE, the reverse isekai genre has been slowly but notably rising. Instead of regular humans finding themselves transported into another world where they have to complete a task in order to come home, the creatures from the isekai choose to reside in the world of humans and make a living. In the instance of Special 7, you already know that these creatures can become law enforcement officers—or criminals. As stated before, what makes the reverse isekai genre distinguishable is that the residents of the other world are by no means trapped in our world. They are in the world of humans by choice and choose to integrate into society. If fantasy creatures are going to wreak havoc, then it’s only appropriate that we fight back with creatures that share the same abilities. Kujaku, an elf, is a master of intelligence. Bellemer, the homunculus, is an expert in explosives. Rokusuke, a dwarf, is a sharpshooting sniper. Despite regular humans being capable of performing these exact tasks, when you replace them with individuals from different species, it offers a lot more flavor to the tension, whether the tension is comedic and/or dramatic. Thanks to this gimmick, it demonstrates that the isekai genre can still be refreshingly creative.

Chemistry Between the Cast Members

When you have a team of people coming from different backgrounds, you have a recipe for the unpredictable. Considering that the unit consists of officers of different species, skill sets, and personalities, it adds a lot of interaction to keep the story moving. Seiji is the over-enthusiastic rookie who always wants in on the action and it contrasts with his superior, Ichinose, who tends to be more casual and gloomy. Kujaku at this point in the series isn’t exactly sociable, and he’s not one for small talk or humor. Akane, as a vampire, appropriately has a seductive design and voice. Bellemer is a technological genius who helps the team by giving instructions in disarming explosives and using her drones to pursue fleeing suspects. Then Rokusuke is the old veteran of the group who is wise and experienced which gives him more of a paternal role, especially with how he’s partnered with Bellemer. We can’t say for certain but, considering Japan’s homogeneous society, it’s very difficult to portray diversity in anime when it takes place in Japan. Despite not trying to have a unit formed by, lets say, a native Japanese, a Korean, an America, an African, a European, etc, by adding in fantasy creatures into the mix, it gives anime as a whole the opportunity to explore diversity in a uniquely creative sense.

Before we finish, we know Cop Craft aired earlier in 2019 which also mixes law enforcement and reverse isekai, but Cop Craft is more akin to classic buddy cop comedy films like Rush Hour and Lethal Weapon. Special 7 takes a different turn and is more about a unit such as what’s portrayed in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Brooklyn 99. Thanks to Special 7, you can see how fantasy creatures such as vampires, who tend to be portrayed as villainous, can also get to be the hero! Considering that American TV dramas and cinema can have room for both sets of police procedurals, so can anime!
