As a lover of reverse harems, it is somewhat painful to see the release dates of new anime and truly see how few reverse harems grace these lists. 2019 was definitely not a great year for reverse harems but that does not mean that it didn’t give us a few gems. With the plethora of great anime that came out this year, it is hard to believe that so few of them have focused on this very genre that so many people love. The anime listed below are what we believe to be the best reverse harem of 2019.

4. Uta no☆Prince-sama♪ Maji Love Kingdom

Any fans of the Uta no Prince-sama original series will fall in love with this movie. That being said, there is little plot to this movie beyond the singing. While this is pretty much just fan service for its admirers, the animation is excellent and will remind fans just why they fell in love with all these handsome men in the first place. Each song brings the music to life and makes everyone tap their foot to the beat in this engaging movie. Any fans of music anime such as Carol and Tuesday will enjoy not only this movie, but the seasons that came before it. Uta no Prince Sama is an iconic music and idol anime that would be a perfect blend for any reverse harem fan.

Another one for fans of music and idol anime, B-Project returns for its second season. Those who enjoyed the first season will no doubt love the new season which brings back all your favorite elements but on a grander scale. Tsubasa’s new life takes form in her music career which continues to blossom surrounded by beautiful men and she is all too aware of how important her contribution to the industry is. Season two is an exemplary follow up to the grandeur of the first season.

When Mei Ayazuki is transported through time, she ends up in Meiji era Japan. Immediately running into historic figures such as Shunsou Hishida, Kyouka Izume, Ougai Mori, and many others, she must learn to navigate her new life in a different time. Blessed with the ability to see ghosts, Mei becomes a valuable commodity to those around her. While she works to solve the mysteries of the time, she must learn to navigate love and secrecy that surround her. This show does stretch the history behind these figures by quite a bit but it is necessary for the storyline. Fans of anime such as Hakouki will no doubt enjoy this reverse harem.

1. Fruits Basket (2019)

After much anticipation, the remake of Fruits Basket does not disappoint. Along with the re-release of the manga, Fruits Basket is now receiving more attention than ever. Tooru Honda lives a depressing life on her own after her father abandons her but after happening upon a strange house, she knows that her life will never be the same again. The myriad of handsome men in the house actually transform into zodiac animals and represent the cycle. As she becomes more intertwined with the world, she begins to understand that their family is much more complicated than she ever could have imagined. This recreation of Fruits Basket is true to the source material and will not disappoint fans of the original release. While there are always a handful of guys in reverse harem, it is hard to find a main character that has meaningful relationships with each individual man. Fruits Basket excels in this because the character development is unparalleled. Fan or not of reverse harem, any viewer will find this a charming anime to enjoy.

Fruits Basket (2019) PV

Reverse harem lovers are no doubt disappointed in the amount of reverse harems that are available to watch. The 2019 options were not the best but definitely included some that are a must watch. While 2019 holds onto these gems, we continue to look forward to 2020 for the release of more titles that can truly hold a flame to characters that we saw in anime such as Akatsuki no Yona and Ouran Koukou Host Club. We hope that you have enjoyed our article on this year’s best reverse harems. As always, if you have any questions or comments please feel free to leave them in the comments section below.

  • Gameforge will soon invite even more warriors to test their might in the gripping fantasy action MMORPG, TERA. Gameforge has launched a local TERA server in SEA (Southeast Asia) — which includes Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Brunei — and has integrated the game to Gameforge’s official network.
  • In cooperation with Playwith, Gameforge ensures that existing players who join the newly hosted Shen server will be able to continue playing the game and receive the latest content updates that were previously unavailable in the region. The content will not be localized into additional languages but can be playable in English, German, and French in Southeast Asia.
  • These changes will not affect any of the players’ game progress to date, and their accounts can be moved as of today. For this purpose, a Gameforge account is created on the migration website (found here) that will allow players to access the game with their new account info and credentials upon downloading the Gameforge client. With the migration from the base TERA client to Gameforge’s, players also have access to a broad portfolio of impressive browser and PC games. Those players who log into the Shen server at least once prior to January 19th will receive a small in-game welcome gift. More information can be found through the official Gameforge TERA forums.

Playable Characters

Kaga Kaga sees Akagi as her older sister, despite being as strong as her. She's usually friendly, but often acts as a counter to Akagi's tendency to going a little wild. That said, their temperaments in battle are similar. She may sound cold at times, but she is a very compassionate individual and has earned the respect of many.

Cleveland A core member of the Eagle Union. She's the eldest of a group of particularly interesting sisters. Her openness causes people to see her as tomboyish. She spends her time tending to her bonsai. The reason she decided to take part in the Joint Military Exercise was because she heard that whoever was chosen as the MVP will receive a special bonus at the end of the event.

Kongou A former member of the Royal Navy who is currently associated with the Sakura Empire. She acts like a member of the Royal Navy, but her caring nature is more in line with the nature of the Sakura Empire. Her accolades have given her the job of acting as the receptionist for the Joint Military Exercise, while also granting her the privilege of participating in the event with Yamashiro. She is doing her very best with her protégées to make the event a success.

Saratoga Lexington's younger sister who is trying to carve her way as an upcoming idol. Though her frame is small and cute, she holds an undeniable power, like the aircraft carrier she is named after. She's down-to-earth, but she does have a knack for teasing others. It isn't unusual for Lexington to catch her in the midst of it... a scolding will ensure, of course. She just can't get away from her older sister. Even still, she's always running off and indulging herself in her usual pranks. As to how her mischief will fare this time...? Nobody knows...

Secretary Ship: Appears on main menus when not engaged in battle. Secretary Ship can be a playable character or support character. Having a ship as your secretary can lead to some interesting events to happen! Support: Can be selected to assist in battle. When certain conditions are met, support characters can perform different support skills such as attacks, buffs, and heals. Playable characters can also be deployed as support characters, lending a different set of skills than if they were controlled. Atlanta As a member of the Eagle Union, Atlanta is the eldest of the Atlanta-class cruisers, and the older sister of San Diego. Compared to her other younger sisters, Atlanta is more grounded, and is constantly trying to mend matters caused by her younger sisters' randomness. She tries to keep her place as an older sister, but sometimes she misses the mark in doing so. She decides to follow San Diego after hearing that she's going to participate in the Joint Military Exercise.

Admiral Hipper An elite of the Iron Blood, and older sister to Prinz Eugen. She's similar, yet distinctly different from Prinz Eugen in that she acts irritated in front of those that interest her... a typical tsundere. Hipper doesn't enjoy that Eugen knows this facet of her so well, but that doesn't mean they don't get along. Hipper was invited to the Joint Military Exercise as support. At first glance, it seems like she didn't want to participate, but in truth, she's excited to meet Eugen and the others.

Best Sci-fi Anime of 2019

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="viz.com" url="https://www.viz.com/blog/posts/interview-with-the-dr-stone-writer" ]

One of the many reasons we love anime is that creators can get extremely creative with their universes, plots, and effects that would normally limit a live-action production. Sci-fi is one of the genres where this is most notable and for some of us Sci-fi nerds, that makes it one of the best! There were plenty of Sci-fi anime in 2019, and we loved many of them, but only five made it on our list. All of the following anime were loved by anime fans and made an impact in the anime community in one way or another. To the stars and beyond!

5. Dr. Stone

Science-obsessed boy-genius Senku and his best friend Taiju are just going about their usual high school lives one day when just as Taiju is mustering up the courage to confess to his long-time crush, a green flash suddenly passes over the earth and turns every human into stone. Thousands of years later, Taiju wakes up and breaks out of his stone shell to discover he is alone and confused. Or so he thinks! Senku has actually been awake for months now and was just waiting for his friend to come back to life. The biggest scientific challenge that Senku has ever encountered faces him: Restore humanity and restart the development of science and technology from scratch. Of course, this excites him to no end! However, not everyone who wakes up has the same altruistic vision for the future as Senku does and so the challenges multiply. The setup of Dr. Stone alone is unique and exciting for those into science fiction. On top of that, there’s plenty of learning in the anime as well as Senku explains every experiment and the audience gets to learn a little bit about how technology has evolved and, like any good shounen, there’s drama, comedy, romance, action, and so much more. Don’t let the shounen label deter you, Dr. Stone is a great sci-fi anime for all ages!

4. No Guns Life

The Berhüren Corporation has released the technology needed to create war-grade cyborgs known as Extended which were once used in battle. Now with no war, Extendeds are feared, discriminated against, and many have turned to crime to survive. Juzou Inui is an Extended with a gun for a head and he has no recollection of his past but he deals with Extended-related cases in the city and is allowed to do his thing. One day, Juzou is involved with an Extended boy who is being chased and seems to be wanted by everyone. Juzou, being a great detective with a strong sense of pride and work ethic, gets the feeling something’s off so he decides to help the mysterious boy and figure out why everyone is after him, especially when Juzou becomes the next target for getting involved. Without giving anything away, No Guns Life is one of the best Sci-Fi anime out this year. Being a seinen anime, No Guns Life deals with darker themes—reflected by the dark, grimy art which pulls you right into the anime’s world—, there’s mystery throughout, and the plot and story keep you wondering what is going to happen next and who all these characters are really. Definitely, a Sci-fi anime not to miss!

3. Kanata no Astra (Astra Lost in Space)

It’s the year 2063 and technology is at a point where space travel is so common that school kids get to go to literal space camp. Composed of 9 members, Caird High School’s Group B-5 is set to depart on a camping trip to McPa led by Astra, an athletic and charismatic leader. The students are getting to know each other on the trip when, on McPa, a black sphere appears, sucks them in, and transports them into the void of space! But, against all odds, and thanks to Astra’s leadership skills and strength of mind and body, they are able to reach an abandoned spaceship and survive. Once there, they realize that they have been transported thousands of light-years away from home! With Astra at the lead and a group of very intelligent high schoolers, they set up a course to get back. But, what was that sphere? Things get even more mysterious and shocking the more things keep going wrong and the more the kids learn about each other, the ship they found, and themselves. There’s way more to this high school space-camping trip that meets the eye! Kanata no Astra is beautifully drawn and animated and the plot twists never cease! On top of that, it is a fully-contained series! There’s drama, romance, friendship, suspense, and comedy. And, on top of that, it has an ending! Definitely one of this writer’s Top 5 in general this year!

2. Promare

When a race of mutants called Burnish suddenly appears, half of humanity is lost to the fire-wielding creatures. Thirty years later, Burnish attacks still randomly happen and are controlled by firefighters known as the Burning Rescue. Galo, their newest recruit, is a young, passionate man who was saved by Kray Foresight, leader of the Republic of Promepolis, who Galo now idolizes. A group of terrorists calling themselves Mad Burnish and their leader Lio are the latest threat to the country’s safety and so Galo makes it a point to find out the truth about the organization, the mutants, and their reasons for violence. Going down the rabbit hole, Galo faces things and finds out truths that will make him question everything. Brought to us by TRIGGER, it is no surprise that Promare made big waves in 2019. The topics are relevant to the current state of the world, there are plenty of twists, and the art and action sequences are all one would expect from TRIGGER. There were also two other prequel ONAs released in 2019 that take place before the events in the film and they are focused on Galo and Lio respectively so there’s even more to Promare than just the hit film! We certainly recommend all of it.

Humanity has terraformed Mars and life on the red planet is just like it was on Earth. In this futuristic world, even music is made and performed by AI, but this doesn’t stop rich girl Tuesday from running away from home to pursue a life playing her oldschool acoustic guitar. The runaway has a fateful encounter with Carole, who plays the keyboard in the city, and the two girls decide to make beautiful music together and beat out even the robots whose sole job is to make music. But it won’t be that easy... Created by the sc-fi loving Shinichirou Watanabe (Cowboy Beebop, Ergo Proxy, Samurai Champloo… you get the idea) and Studio BONES, Carole & Tuesday was unsurprisingly a hit anime in 2019. The music and lyrics are professional grade, the sci-fi plot is interesting, the storyline is moving, and the art and animation are just plain flawless. If you like sci-fi, music, beautiful art, or just want to watch Watanabe and BONES’ most recent masterpiece so you don’t miss out, we urge you to check out Carole & Tuesday!

Though we’d like to give honorable mentions to the 3rd season of Psycho Pass, Symphogear XV, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, and Sword Art Online: Alicization, all of which also made waves within their fandoms this year. The Emerald Tablet- PC (Steam) Review

[ad_top1 class=""]
Alchemy Isn’t Cheap
  • System: PC (Steam)
  • Publisher:Sekai Project
  • Developer:{uni}
  • Release Date: December 16, 2019

Who it Caters to

Publisher Sekai Project has been mostly known for their involvement in visual novels but The Emerald Tablet is a pretty different genre then what we often see by them. Developed by {uni} The Emerald Tablet intends on showing a lot of love for games like the Atelier Series. Players who enjoy RPGs with a focus on micromanaging time and crafting ingredients will no doubt want to pay attention to what we’re about to say! That’s right readers, today we review The Emerald Tablet for Steam! Let’s see if this indie developer can match the greatness we’ve come to expect from alchemy themed games!

What to Expect

Combining 2D RPG action and alchemy crafting, The Emerald Tablet feels like a simpler version of titles like Atelier Rorona: The Alchemist of Arland or any Gust title for that matter. Players take control of Misty who dreams of being an alchemist but finds that dream isn’t a simple one to accomplish. Not only does Misty get into incredible debt thanks to her student loans—a feeling many of us college students can understand—but she also learns she needs to raise her reputation if she wishes to become relevant. The player will need to guide Misty and her friends through an adventure to gather ingredients for alchemic purposes and take on quests for money/reputation! Time is not on Misty’s side and if the player fails to reach a certain goal by the year’s end…Misty won’t be living the life of a grand alchemist! Simplified RPG mechanics and random events makes The Emerald Tablet a nice indie themed RPG for all to enjoy!
[ad_top2 class="mt40 mb40"]

Story

Misty has one dream, becoming an alchemist. Unfortunately, Misty has learned on day one of her enrolment to the academy that being an alchemist is far from simple…or cheap to do. Thanks to her childhood friend Gladys, Misty has the money to enter school but now has only a year to make it big as an alchemist hopeful or will be doomed to serve Gladys as her maid like their friend Winnie! Can Misty muster up the gold needed to pay off her debt and earn enough reputation to become a rich and popular alchemist? The clock is ticking and Misty’s mission begins now!

Gameplay

Let’s just throw this out there right away. If you’ve played any Atelier titles—meaning the franchise from well-known developer Gust—then The Emerald Tablet won’t surprise you too much. However, we do know some gamers out there might need further explanation and to say The Emerald Tablet is a clone of the Atelier franchise isn’t right either. That’s why we’re going to break down what to expect in this JRPG with crafting gameplay themes. Time to break down The Emerald Tablet and what its gameplay is like. The Emerald Tablet wastes no time throwing you into the fray. Players are going to assume the role of Misty who needs to go from normal girl to expert alchemist and the road towards that title isn’t going to be the simplest one. Maybe after ten minutes of playing, Misty ends up owing tons of gold—for her tuition—and must not only pay that gold back to her best friend but also earn reputation for the academy of alchemists to earn her title. Like the Atelier series, all this must be accomplished in one in-game year and that means every action from henceforth needs to be thought out in order to avoid wasting time. Luckily, The Emerald Tablet learns from the mistakes of past Atelier games and while the setup of both games might be similar, the execution is quite different.
The first major change you’ll notice in The Emerald Tablet is actions don’t require time or points to use. The Emerald Tablet offers you a nice amount of freedom to do what you want in a single day. Want to make items in the Atelier, do it. Want to go out exploring and finding items/materials—more on this in a minute—you can. The Emerald Tablet isn’t as constricting as Atelier games of old as it allows a lot of freedom to spend your time in the ways you feel are best for you and your upcoming Alchemist. We actually loved that about this system as days felt realistic and unlike a lot of time-based JRPGs, The Emerald Tablet realizes humans can do ten different tasks in one day without having to spend the entire 24 hours in one task. If you choose to go away from the city and explore, this is where The Emerald Tablet becomes its own game entirely. When you choose a place to go to you end up on a 2D battlefield where combat isn’t like most JRPGs. Instead of choosing simple attacks like a turn based JRPG or issuing orders, you instead control Misty or her allies in an action based system. Using either the keyboard or a controller, you control your selected sprite character—which are adorable by the way—and use various attacks each one has. Misty as an alchemist can throw barrels/TNT barrels or create decoy/healing areas. Meanwhile her friend—the rich princess Gladys—can use her rifle for long range attacks or summon two soldiers to fight with the group. There are several more characters you’ll get to choose and play with depending on level and events but no matter who it is, the combat stays the same.
Outside combat, you’re going to need to beat the clock during exploration. The Emerald Tablet gives you a set time to fight baddies or accomplish tasks and when the timer hits 0, your team leaves. The same can be said if you die in battle. Your team will just flee and you’ll lose anything gained in that run which means you wasted your time ultimately. The Emerald Tablet is all about simple systems and that works quite well in the big picture. However, in favor of simplicity, The Emerald Tablet made a few rather large mistakes that affect the title as a whole. Our biggest gripe/issues with The Emerald Tablet is the lack of explanation for a lot. While there are tutorials that will explain the main concept of how combat works and how to visit places to talk to people/take on missions, most of this game is trial and error. You’ll never know what characters can do with their various attacks until you do it yourself and that seems rather strange. Making items via the crafting system seems simple but can be overly complicated as The Emerald Tablet doesn’t explain step by step how crafting works. There’s even a free crafting system but while this sounds fun and enjoyable it’s a lot of trial and error that tends to be more failure then success. Some formulas are simple such as making items stronger by combining two materials/ingredients together but most aren’t and you’ll find the free system to be useless more often than not. Another minor issue is how to really advance the story. Most of the events in The Emerald Tablet are random. You’ll see on the map screen an area highlighted meaning an event is happening there but these random events don’t feel like they progress the story. One event even made our debt go up considerably and that wasn’t a fun thing to see. The Emerald Tablet has some solid ideas for a more freeing JRPG experience. Yet, some of those ideas feel a bit weak and often overly random/simplified.
Ending our review on a good note, The Emerald Tablet does succeed in providing solid visuals and a great OST. From the sprites to the CG static images/backdrops, The Emerald Tablet might be an indie title but it looks like the team had some true experience in their art. The soundtrack also is wonderful boasting some great tunes during combat and exploration alike! While there isn’t any voice acting—this is an indie title after all—you can almost imagine what these characters would sound like thanks to the music that accompanies the situations around them. Kudos to team {uni} you guys did a fantastic job for an indie crew!
[ad_middle class="mt40 mb40"]

Honey's Gameplay Consensus:

The Emerald Tablet is a very simple JRPG and that works in its favor and against it as well. When it works, The Emerald Tablet is addicting and can be truly fun as you go on random quests and enjoy random bits of story. The Emerald Tablet falters mostly in its overly simplified combat and strange crafting system that feels more like trial by fire. We really wish The Emerald Tablet kept the simpler crafting systems found in the Atelier series but making items from complete luck or basic recipes isn’t a horrible idea. Overall, The Emerald Tablet is a fun crafting JRPG that while not perfect, does more right than wrong. If you want a more indie themed JRPG, you’re going to like The Emerald Tablet!

Honey's Pros:

  • Great visuals that are cute and smooth
  • Simple but fun combat system that never really hurts you for dying/failing
  • Simple goal with a decent amount of ways to reach it
  • Unique characters that ooze with personality
  • Great price

Honey's Cons:

  • Crafting system feels a bit strange and should have had a better tutorial
  • The same can be said of the combat
  • Don’t expect the story to make much sense initially as it feels as random as the events you view
  • Could have used some voice work

Honey's Final Verdict:

The Emerald Tablet isn’t game of the year quality but that doesn’t make it a lesser title. We enjoyed our time with this quirky crafting themed JRPG and are sure many of you will too! At only $19.99, The Emerald Tablet is an addicting JRPG with a personality that tries to be different than others like it and we appreciate that greatly. Everything we Can Tell From the Ghost in the Shell: SAC 2045 Trailer

So, Netflix dropped a trailer for its upcoming Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 film and most of the conversation has been about whether or not its CGI animation looks good or not, but we’d rather spend some time indulging in our hype for the new story. After all, with co-directors Shinji Aramaki of Captain Harlock (2013) fame and series veteran Kenji Kamiyama at the helm, the upcoming picture is poised to be another excellent stone in the monument that is the Ghost in the Shell franchise. So, let’s put our expertise on this extremely complicated series to good use and see what details we can pull from the new teaser.

What’s in a Name?

The complexity of the Ghost in the Shell franchise comes largely from the many series that comprise it, each with an isolated continuity. From the manga that got the ball rolling to the 2 films that made it a household name to the most recent Arise OVAs, every story written under the Ghost in the Shell name follows its own canon. But that SAC in the title is a continuity dead giveaway in spite of the franchise's usual obliqueness, as it stands for Stand Alone Complex, a great 2-season TV anime which emphasized Ghost in the Shell's crime procedural features. It's one of GitS's most iconic entries but was assumed to be complete ever since its last title—the 2006 TV movie Solid State Society—released in 2006. But we can tell even more about the new film's place in continuity, as the title also reads 2045, almost certainly telegraphing the year in which it takes place. In fact, let's do a quick recap of Stand Alone Complex's timeline to show you the significance of the date and bring those who haven't seen it up to speed to boot.

The Recap

The lore of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex is grounded rather firmly in our own, real history. That is until a series of nuclear conflicts around Europe and Asia escalated into a Third World War at an undisclosed time between 2000 and 2002. Japan refrained from participating in the war, focusing instead on developing the Japanese Miracle, a network of micromachines capable of dissipating nuclear fallout. Nevertheless, Tokyo and Okinawa both get nuked while America suffers a different kind of blow in the form of a split into two countries: The American Empire and the Ameri-Soviet Union, though the U.S.A. still exists in a reduced capacity, all the while our heroine Motoko Kusanagi is born back in the land of the rising sun. But that's just the setup for our major players that we need to get out of the way to understand the real recap of the SAC timeline: 2015: World War IV ignites from the embers of the last, but ends at a so-far undisclosed time. Japan elects to completely isolate itself and develops cybernetic technology to the point that machine-enhanced bodies with computer brains and robotic limbs become more public than normal ones. 2024: A hacker known as The Laughing Man assaults the head of the Cerano Genomics Corporation in public, but first alters all the cameras and human cybernetic eyes in the area to overlay a cartoon logo of his own design over his face, and thus can’t be identified. 2029: Japan’s Ministry of Home Affairs establishes Public Security Section 9, a counter-terrorist and anti-crime intelligence department. 2030: The Laughing Man re-emerges, exposes a conspiracy to suppress a cure for a debilitating cybernetic disease in favor of further profit from the public and private sectors, then inspires an unorganized movement of imitators. 2032: Section 9 is called to intervene in an escalating conflict between refugees from the third and fourth World Wars and a group of domestic right-wing terrorists known as the Individual Eleven. 2034: Section 9 and Makoto Kusanagi, who resigned at an undisclosed time, discover a massive cover-up of 20 000 child kidnappings involving the fictional Siak Republic, Japanese nationalist MP Ito Munei and an elusive hacker known only as The Puppeteer.

Okay, Let’s Look at the Actual Trailer Now

…And that’s the last we’ve seen of Kusanagi and company. A bit abrupt, yes, but that’s just what we got in the final moments of Solid State Society, the 2006 film that gave us our last taste of the Stand Alone Complex subseries. So now that we’ve laid out the backstory, time to put it to work by seeing how Netflix’s new teaser fits into the puzzle. Put your concerns about the 45-second teaser being too short to give us any real information aside, because we can tell a ton about the new movie's direction from the first shot alone. Sure, it may reveal nothing more than a decrepit street with sand and palm trees, but that alone will make even the most casual GitS fans aware that this shot promises a radical setting change from the rest of the cyberpunk oeuvre. No wires, no screens, no computers and clearly not even Japan. That may seem like a small detail—and it very well may be—but this little nugget holds the potential to be earth-shattering. Ghost in the Shell has a Tolkienesque lore detailing how the 3rd and 4th world wars and the cyber-society that rose from what was left affected different major countries all over the world, but at no point in its 24-year history has the narrative taken advantage of that, never uprooting itself from its Japanese setting. If 2045 can develop the international angle showcased in this teaser it could make for the most expansive worldbuilding in the franchise yet and make way for exciting new sci-fi concepts that wouldn’t fit as well in Neo-Tokyo. After some more establishing shots, we finally see a truck driving towards the camera amongst the previously established decrepit buildings. Once we cut to the back of the truck though, we find ourselves in a different setting, with nothing but desert and some broken power lines around. More importantly, though, a tachikoma—the series' lovable A.I. police tanks—can be seen mounted on the back of the truck. Does the long drive implied by this time-lapse mean that the film will employ a road trip movie format? Probably not, since that doesn't mesh with Ghost in the Shell's modus operandi, but it’s at least a possibility based on the trailer. Besides, anyone who’s seen the tachikoma in all their glory throughout Stand Alone Complex proper will know that going on a road trip with one sounds like an awesome idea. The truck makes a travesty of a parking job right in the highway’s median and its driver disembarks for a slow pan up to reveal her as none other than Makoto Kusanagi herself. The former Major looks much younger than when we last saw her too, but the date in the title dispels any chance that this might be a prequel, meaning that she has a new cybernetic body. Kusanagi remarks that it’s “wonderful not to have any noise,” and then the trailer cuts to its title cards.

What Does it Mean?

That line tells us the most about the story though but also raises the most questions. Kusanagi's disillusionment with her computer-dependent society has been a motif that runs through most works with the Ghost in the Shell name, but her response has typically been to work outside the system to target its imperfections. Could she have just had enough and decided to run away, seeking only a pastoral life in the middle of nowhere away from technology? Away from even organized civilization itself? That sure seems to be what she puts down here, but either way the phrasing of her remark seems to indicate that whatever's been going on in her life is a pretty recent change. That still leaves 21 in-universe years shrouded in mystery and doesn’t explain why she has a tachikoma with her. No sign of Section 9 appears in the trailer too, though we can understand why they’d be elsewhere if Kusanagi really is trying to live off-grid. But since she has one of their tanks with them and has only now found silence after all these years, we find it more likely that they will be pursuing her in the film. Would it be to have her re-enlist? To arrest her? Something else? Just about any motivation could be valid with such a time gap, but we’re excited to see which one.

Final Thoughts

[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B00K1T79FE" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]

Ghost in the Shell has earned its reputation as a franchise layered with meaning, especially by being able to tell us so much with such a short trailer. We don’t have any definitive answers, but that doesn’t mean that we haven’t already got plenty of substance to get us invested in Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045. No official release date has been confirmed yet, but you can bet we’ll be sitting on the edges of our couches once it is.

Hataage! Kemono Michi (Kemono Michi: Rise Up) Introduction and Story

Tiger-themed pro wrestler Animal Mask is in the middle of his final fight with his greatest rival MAO when he and his cute canine sidekick Hiroyuki are transported into a new world, summoned by Princess Altena. Animal Mask—a.k.a. Genzou Shibata—already had plans for when he won his last fight: to live surrounded by animals. Lucky for him, this world is full of anthropomorphic animals and other half-animal beasts! Appearing before the princess, Altena explains that she has summoned Genzou as a hero to slay the demon beasts in the land which have been causing problems in her kingdom. Unfortunately, what some consider “demon beasts”, Genzou considers the most adorable and huggable creatures! Genzou is not ok with this request and German suplexes Altena, exposing her butt for all to see and then running away with Hiroyuki in his arms. Running around in his wrestler garb (basically a speedo and a mask) and holding a small dog, Genzou manages to shock and terrify most of the locals, who understandably peg him for a weirdo perv. Genzou takes off his mask and encounters a couple of ruffians meaning to rob him—a cat-girl named Misha and Wolfgang, a wolfman—which sends him over the edge with excitement thinking about petting them and touching the catgirl’s ears. After subduing the wolfman with belly rubs, he comes across a wolf-girl being dragged to be sold. Of course, as an animal lover and chivalrous man, Genzou intervenes, which freaks out the man as Genzou is still just in his underwear. Shigure, the wolf-girl, thanks Genzou as he finds out she was not getting kidnapped; she actually owed the man money and agreed to be sold as collateral… She’s a sneaky one that Shigure! Seeing that his dream of being surrounded by animals—or at least demon beasts—is more likely to come true in this world, Genzou decides to befriend and collect animals/demon beasts and open a pet shop! And since there is always work for “demon beast slayers”, he always has the opportunity to meet and love a new furry friend. Of course, anyone who calls him a demon beast “slayer” will face the wrath of Animal Mask and suffer a German Suplex like Altena did.

Why You Should Watch Hataage! Kemono Michi (Kemono Michi: Rise Up)
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="KAXA-7843" text="" url="" ]

1. It’s Just Hilarious

From the opening scene where musclebound Animal Mask is in his dressing room pre-fight holding Hiroyuki and daydreaming about being surrounded by animals, Genzou’s love for animals keeps the audience chuckling throughout the season. He falls in love with a married anthropomorphic cat-woman because that is so much better than just cat ears! The constant misunderstandings, random wrestling moves, Wolfgang’s trauma, Genzou’s obsession, and Shigure’s cheekiness are definitely a highlight of Kemono Michi!

2. So Many Cute and Sexy Creatures!

Of course, an anime all about a man obsessed with animals and a world that has lots of demon beasts to slay is full of cute, fuzzy creatures. But not just that. Though Genzou may be more interested in the fluffy Kobold cat-woman, there are many very sexy human and demi-human girls in his harem. There really is something for everybody in this anime! Genzou and MAO are well built, the girls are either cute or sexy, and the animals are super cute. You will not get tired of watching Kemono Michi. Especially with all the suplexes Genzou puts the girls through!

3. It Has an Original Isekai Setting

It seems as though every isekai setting has been done, but an animal-obsessed wrestler transported into a fantasy world filled with animals is definitely a first! Genzou is not generally OP, his only gifts are his physical strength and experience as a wrestler and his ability to overcome any beast he encounters with belly rubs, snacks, love or all of the above! The constant references to wrestling moves and such are a nice bonus for wrestling fans and those just looking for something different alike.

[ad_middle class="mt40"]
Why You Should Skip Hataage! Kemono Michi (Kemono Michi: Rise Up)

1. No Deep, Meaningful Story

Hataage! Kemono Michi is above all a comedy. While there is a storyline and it progresses, it’s more of an episodic, silly romp for the most part. You won’t find much character development or deep social themes. Kemono Michi is just a simple, relaxing, kemonomimi harem anime to make you laugh and enjoy looking at pretty/cute things.

2. Some of the Jokes Can Get Old

While the comedy is good, there are plenty of running gags that may feel a bit repetitive after a while. For example, every time that Genzou is referred to as a “demon beast slayer” someone gets suplexed; Wolgang develops PTSD after his first encounter with Genzou and so every time he sees him he either runs and hides or is pinned by belly rubs again; and since Genzou doesn’t care for regular, non-fuzzy humans, he’s constantly annoyed by or suplexing those around him that don’t fit the criteria.

Final Thoughts

Isekai is definitely not a new genre and it’s getting to the point where some anime fans even overlook anything isekai related. KonoSuba was one of the first titles to parody the genre and make it hilarious, Kemono Michi: Rise Up follows its footsteps well and adds its own twist to the new-world ridiculousness. If you like comedy, silly harems, and kemonomimi, you will enjoy Hataage! Kemono Michi. Even more so if you’re a fan of wrestling! Did you watch Kemono Michi? Is Genzou your husbando? Who’s your favorite character? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below! Nya~!

Discussion Time

The ending of chapter 117 of Ao no Exorcist shouldn’t be surprising, as we know the inevitable fate for these characters, but for some reason…it still was a shock to read. Our chapter begins with Shiro still being possessed by Satan and trying to show how much he changed to love a human. However, as Yuri points out, some actions aren’t human and prove our main devil lord is just a monster. Yuri’s actions cause Shiro to regain control of his body as Satan leaves it but, of course, this doesn’t mean the exorcists are okay with allowing events like this to happen again. Yuri is to be executed for bearing Satan’s kids and the two boys are to be observed by the committee to ensure their powers don’t ever go out of control. Despite being an exorcist himself, Shiro doesn’t take kindly to possibly losing his love Yuri and betrays the group by pointing his weapon at them and escaping. The Grigori—the older lady who wished for the actions above—makes a haunting claim as the other exorcists are to not follow Shiro and his love…Yuri is going to die even without their action. We then see Shiro lead Yuri out and the two head towards a secret hideout he made from an abandoned tower. Despite feeling ill, Yuri names both of the children—Rin and Yukio—and tries her best to give them a motherly embrace for as long as she can. We say that because as the Grigori predicted, Yuri’s body gives out as they trek through the snow-filled landscape and eventually perishes as she hopes Shiro will be the children’s father as best as possible. Shiro doesn’t have much time to mourn as a Yeti appears and attacks him. Now near death, Shiro is left dying in the snow thinking he was more of a monster than the ones he has faced. Our 117th chapter ends on a defeated Shiro and we now are left to wonder…what next!?!? How will Shiro be saved and what leads him to truly becoming a father for these two demon-like children? We once more must wait a month for the next chapter but, like always, this gives us a chance to explain why you must read this chapter of Ao no Exorcist right this second! Well…after you read our review, obviously!

Why You Should Read Ao no Exorcist (Blue Exorcist) Chapter 117
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="viz" url="https://www.viz.com/read/manga/blue-exorcist-volume-21/product/5779" ]

1. An Unsurprising Death

Rin and Yukio’s mother we knew was going to die but seeing it occur made this unsurprising event still pretty powerful. Yuri wasn’t a mother for long but even in her short time as one, she gave the two kids their names—with some silly thought behind them—and even tried to feed the kids with her last remaining strength. Yuri was a mom for maybe several minutes—probably longer in the world of Ao no Exorcist—but in our minds, she was a great one.

2. Monsters in Human Form

Satan may have taken human form by possessing Shiro’s body, but that didn’t mean his actions were human. Likewise, Shiro felt he was a monster due to his inability to save Yuri and be just a bit kinder towards the woman he loved. Ao no Exorcist has always been about monsters and those who fight them but this chapter shows being a monster doesn’t always mean you need horns and fire…sometimes being a monster just means your actions counter the humanity within you.

Final Thoughts

Ao no Exorcist 117 was powerful and that’s surprising to us. Usually, when you know the plot of a story and know how things will turn out, the impact ends up being less powerful. That wasn’t the case with this amazing chapter as we knew how the bigger picture would form but seeing it form was the shock to our systems. Did you feel the same as us? Comment below with your thoughts on chapter 117! Be sure to keep stuck to our hive for even more Ao no Exorcist chapter reviews done by us here at Honey’s Anime!

KurtzPel - Fallen Light

[en]What You Need to Know: [/en][es]Lo que necesitas saber: [/es]

  • KOG Games today announced the launch of a new karma (weapon) called Fallen Light. The new weapon is a magic cannon named "Elemental Buster" and takes on the role of a long-range magic slayer. Unlike other long-range Karmas, this Karma does not gain any auto-targeting assistance, and all shot projectiles will follow the player's aim. Fallen Light also utilizes a new resource called "Magic Bullet" which can be used to enhance skills or deliver a stronger attack.
  • With the addition of a new karma, some changes are being made to the Karma system. Chasers will now be able to acquire Dual Soul and Sacred Guardian Karma with significantly reduced CP (in-game currency). The max growth of Karma will be increased from three to five and new skills will be taught through the new Karma UI instead of NPCs; chasers will be able to learn new skills and abilities by leveling up their karma.
  • There are other large changes coming to KurtzPel in this update, which we'll highlight below.

[en]Source: [/en][es]Fuente: [/es]Official Press Release

PVP Season 2 Changes

In order to judge the Chaser's ability on many different aspects of PVP, Chasers will no longer be able to select certain modes when matchmaking. However, once matched with opponents, players will be able to change their weapon and skills before the match starts. Before, players were afraid of their ranks decreasing during the season and stopped doing Official Probatio after reaching a certain rank. From Season 2, players will be rewarded based on the highest ranking achieved during the season, so you no longer need to be afraid of ranking down and can continue to try your best to achieve the highest rank. As fun as it is to rank up to a higher rank, many players felt frustrated whenever they lost. In order to assist with this, points lost upon losing a match will decrease and the number of stages required to rank up will be decreased to 3 instead of 5. PVP Missions will no longer be separated by Practice and Official Probatio. Instead, they will now be separated to Duel Mission and Challenge Missions. Duel Missions will match players from 3 to 5 Vs, and there will be no rank decreases if a match is lost. However, because of that, players will only be able to reach up to Rank A in this mode. New 5 vs 5 Maps will be added to enjoy PVP with more Chasers at once. In order to accommodate the large-scale battle, the 5 vs 5 maps will be bigger and Conquest Mode map will have 2 Capture Points. There will be a total of 2 Deathmatch and 1 Conquest Maps for 5 vs 5.

PVE Changes

PVE will be separated in to 3 different modes: Patrol: You and 2 other allies will fight a random humanoid monster Annihilation: You and 3 other allies will fight multiple random monsters Raid: You and 5 other allies will fight a designated boss monster.

New Items

A Season Pass has been added to the existing Season Level system. When the Battle Pass is activated, players will receive additional rewards while also receiving the rewards for Season Level. The Season Pass will provide greater rewards than the purchase price such as Season Pass Exclusive Costumes and Weapons. Other new items include: Magic Stone allows players to apply stats to Weapon and Costumes Settia Costume (Invisible Costume) for Shirt and Pants Character Name Change Ticket Character Appearance Change Ticket Basic Motion Change Item Players will now acquire different items from extracting items. All existing Essence items will be removed and automatically exchanged for the new items. See here for more details.

System Changes

Eltheca has undergone a visual revamp. A new inventory function and UI will be added so players can check all their items. A mailbox system will be added to be used for event rewards and compensations. A new currency, called DP, will be added and will be received by clearing missions. A new shop that uses CP will be added. A new in-game cash shop that uses KP will be added. To learn more about the changes coming in 2020, visit the KurtzPel Steam page.

Discussion Time

Yakusoku no Neverland truly knows how to hit the reader in the gut! In this 163rd chapter, our two good demons have succeeded in reviving one of the elders via Mujika’s blood. After hearing the situation, the elder quickly agrees to help Sonju and Mujika but a problem soon arises destroying their plan. A big ceremony has commenced in the town square and the demon public learns of their queen’s demise. Making matters worse, this demon speaker seems to already have a new set of laws and is quick to announce that those who seemed responsible for the queen’s death are to be killed! At the center of it all, a human stands watching as his plan unfolds and most will probably realize this most likely is Peter Ratri. As those responsible face possible annihilation, Sonju and Mujika are also shown as culprits and find themselves forced to run as fast as possible to somehow escape! Our duo doesn’t make it far, though, and are captured by demon soldiers, leaving their fate in the hands of a new order…the situation has indeed turned quite dire folks. Will our demons survive this ordeal and get the elders to somehow change the current demon way? We thought Neverland was closer to a change but chapter 163 of Yakusoku no Neverland has made us question everything. Here’s hoping for a miracle in the next chapter of Yakusoku no Neverland but until chapter 164 drops, let’s examine further what we loved about chapter 163!

Why You Should Read Yakusoku no Neverland (The Promised Neverland) Chapter 163
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="viz" url="https://www.viz.com/read/manga/promised-neverland-volume-12/product/6058" ]

1. SO DARN CLOSE!!!

Sonju and Mujika were able to revive one of the elders proving Sonju’s thoughts on Mujika’s blood to be spot on! The duo even had the elder agree to help them change the world by creating a new system for the demons to follow! Now, our two heroes have been caught and their situation couldn’t look direr! Let us pray our two demon allies don’t perish in the upcoming chapters!

2. Peter’s Game

The Ratri clan has quiet for some time in the Yakusoku no Neverland series…at least we thought they were being quiet. If chapter 163 has taught us anything it would be that Peter seems to have had this game all planned out. Like Norman, Peter Ratri seems to have a broader picture in his mind of how things should play out. The only question we have now is what will Peter do with his newfound demon ruling?

Final Thoughts

Even if it has been a few weeks since chapter 162, this latest chapter of Yakusoku no Neverland hasn’t missed a beat. Just when things looked up for our heroes, they now are captive and could face death by the demons being controlled by Peter Ratri. Will our human kids face a similar fate or can they stop the demons at their old home? Comment below with some theories as we’d love to hear if they match ours! For even more Yakusoku no Neverland be sure to keep stuck to our glorious hive here at Honey’s Anime!

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – Mr. Sakurai Presents "Byleth"

[en]What You Need to Know: [/en][es]Lo que necesitas saber: [/es]

  • Combat class is in session! Byleth, the renowned mercenary and professor from the Fire Emblem series, is ready to teach Super Smash Bros. Ultimate players a lesson in battle. In a video released today, Masahiro Sakurai, the director of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, unveiled for the first time the battle-hardened Fire Emblem character in action, who will enter the arena on Jan. 28 as the game’s newest fighter. Sakurai demonstrated Byleth’s unique ranged play style, and revealed the Garreg Mach Monastery stage and 11 new music tracks from the Fire Emblem series, all coming to the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate game for the Nintendo Switch system later this month.
  • All of this new content will be available to players who own the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass or purchase Challenger Pack 5 separately.* In addition to Byleth’s reveal, new details were announced about the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass Vol. 2, which will include six more fighters currently under development. By purchasing Fighters Pass Vol. 2 for a suggested retail price of $29.99, players will get access to six more yet-to-be-announced Challenger Packs as they release. Each pack includes one new fighter, one stage and multiple music tracks. Those who purchase Fighters Pass Vol. 2 will also receive an exclusive costume for Mii Swordfighter, the Ancient Soldier Gear from the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild game, available in-game starting Jan. 28.
  • Byleth joins the ranks as the 80th legendary video game character included as a playable fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which features the biggest crossover of video game characters in history. Drawing upon Byleth’s chivalric exploits, their inclusion in the roster will change the tide of every battle they appear in, with clever strategic choices motivating each defensive posture and offensive attack in their move set. With a sword, axe, lance and bow in hand, prevailing in combat will often come down to selecting the right moments to hold ground or advance.
  • Byleth’s accompanying stage, the Garreg Mach Monastery, also features a variety of cameos from popular characters in the Fire Emblem series, including Edelgard from the Black Eagles, Claude from the Golden Deer and Dimitri from the Blue Lions.
  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will also receive a new Spirit Board, which features some of the other popular characters from the Fire Emblem series, along with a new classic mode route, “A Heroic Legacy,” which highlights classic Fire Emblem stages throughout the series’ storied history.
  • Additionally, new Mii Fighter costumes inspired by Cuphead, Rabbids, Altair and various Mega Man games will be available for purchase on Jan. 28. Players who purchase the Cuphead Mii Fighter costume will also receive a new music track, Floral Fury, which was originally featured in the game’s classic Cagney Carnation boss battle.
  • Finally, two fighters from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will have amiibo figures available for purchase at select retailers beginning on Jan. 17: Samus’s mysterious doppelganger, Dark Samus, and Simon Belmont’s whip-wielding echo fighter, Richter.
  • Additional new fighters, stages and music will also be coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate through the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass Vol. 2. Players can also continue to purchase the current Fighters Pass for a suggested retail price of $24.99 to gain access to the first five Challenger Packs. Playable fighters Joker, Hero, Banjo & Kazooie and Terry Bogard are all available now, with Byleth joining on Jan. 28. For only $5.99, players can also purchase the packs individually.
